Walgie inside the Chronicle yet once againpost super Bowl Happy Monday, Josh.
Obviously an exciting game yesterday. Iknow I was sitting at home and enjoying
it, and I hope you wereas well. Yeah, yeah, definitely,
And um, it's it's funny.I was sitting there during late in
the third quarter, early in thefourth quarter when Mahomes through that interception that

was tipped, and I was thinkingto myself, boy, it would really
be a shame if if Mahomes madeit all the way the Super Bowl and
we really didn't get to see PatMahomes at his very best. And I
don't think anybody thought he was athis very best yesterday, but he's sure
was pretty good late in the game. I mean he made something dead throw
that he made the deeps Tyree Hillto Tyree Kill. It was at that

moment you're thinking, you know,maybe they might be able to do this.
So and just he's a special player. Love watching him play. Um,
you know, Andy Reid taps outto him. I mean, boys
been coaching for such a long time. It's always great to see a guy
like that that that's won so muchand not being able to finish finally get
get the big Super Bowl trot sogreat game. I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, he can't say enough aboutPat Mahomes. I mean, he had
ten touchdowns before he threw his firstinterception in the postseason. He's the youngest
MVP. He's the youngest ever towin the MVP and a Super Bowl MVP
twenty four years old. Pretty crazy, and I'm really happy for Andy Reid
as well. That being said,we had a lot of basketball last week
as well. I know we hadsome wrestling on Saturday. But let's just
kind of kick things off. Iguess we can start with the one that's

most fresh in my mind at least, Geneva Wheat and South boys basketball.
Wheat and South able to grind outthat win, although it was close.
The fourth quarter was interesting. ChrisSuger had twelve points in there. He
had three threes to help kind ofkeep a minute. But Wheat and South,
I thought coach Henning spoke well whenhe's just like Wheat and South just

kind of out Wheaton stout, youknow, tough defense, opportunistic, shooting.
They didn't. Geneva did not reboundwell. But Wheaton South is just
a solid team. They'll take theirtime, yeah, but they'll get there.
They're they're not always the most aestheticallypleasing sometimes team to watch, and
they certainly grind it out. Theyplay good defense and if they make shots

then they're they're tough. I meansometimes they really struggle to make shots,
and they certainly take quite a bitof time on her possessions. But it
sounded like it was kind of atypical Wheaton South type game and they weren't
surprise to see it turn out thatway. They were down twenty to five
and then they you know, theyrip off. I guess Wheat and South
was, Yes, that's impressive.Yeah, they're down twenty to five.

They went in like an eighteen oldruns to actually take the lead going into
the half. So a nice solidone for them. Um, you know,
Geneva kind of just back to theirdrawing board. I guess on that
one, you just need a reboundbetter about too many turnovers? Um,
Josh Preston, you know, asimpressive of a player as he is,
had one of his more lackluster games, so to speak. You know,
just not so much from a pointtotal, but you know, taking care

of the basketball, outrebound if itcome things. But that's going to happen
some night. So interesting game there. Third, well, I guess that's
the cross So I guess we couldwait for Yeah, you know, just
kind of just kind of reset wherewe are right now with boys basketball and
to king conference side. UM,Saint Charles North and Saint Charles Eath are
both seven and one right now.Actually they're almost identical records too, North

sixteen and five, East sixteen andsix. Um Lake Park is two games
back five and three. Then Wheatand South three games back at four.
And for Saint Charles North and SaintCharles East play each other, not this
Friday, but I believe the nextFriday. That's kind of the rivalry night
where the Batavian g who played eachother and whatnot. But Saint Charles North
and Saint Charles He's both had goodweekends. M Saint Charles North on Friday,

Um, they beat Wheat and Northand from what I gather and reading
the story, it sounds like,um, they really kind of went to
their big guys in the second happenand Connor wink. He had a really
big game. He had he hadlike eighteen and twelve or nineteen and thirteen
a double double. They have anotherpost player that you probably know, Bron
that he had. He has hehas some moments two or another more of
an inside player. But it soundslike they really fed, kind of linking

quite a bit and they were ableto get a good win Friday night against
Wheaton North. Then they turn aroundand they won a non conference game on
Saturday. Saint Charles East they playeda game Saturday against Glenbard West. I
was interested to see how that turnoutbecause Glinbard West is really a good team,
a good young team, and itsounds like it was a heck of

a game. Twenty one three pointersbetween the two teams, and a nine
three pointer won the game. ZachClode with a little floater and a lane
with a couple of seconds left winsit for Saint Charles East a game winner.
There. So very good weekend forboth of those teams. You can't
say enough about the run. Wastalking talking about this on Twitter, the

run that Saint Charles East has hadover the last several weeks. I think
this is now ten of their lasteleven they've won every other game. Seems
to be another guy that steps up. When I was last saw them against
Saint Joseph, it was Sean Sullivanoff the bench, it was Zach Clode.
Scott brought again has been huge forthem. Just where Tyler Thomas dits
where. Yeah, I mean,there's just been so many different guys aj

Riisberg going back just some of thelittle things, back to the Christmas Holiday
tournament at Hinsdale. They're playing great. Um, and we said this again,
I will say it one more time. There is no Cody Mitchell,
there's no Justin Hardy. There arejust guys that fit the system, a
lot of good players, and they'rethey're playing well. So hats off to
them. They're playing great. Ithink the coaching staff has got them in

a really good spot. Um.They're really really fun to watch and I
and I'm looking forward to the rematchand a couple of weeks when you see
now should be that should be aheck of a game when those two teams
come together. I'm looking forward toseeing what happens there as well. I
mentioned lake Park two games back ofthem. Lake Park, they kind of
stubbed their tell a few games recently, but it's not like they really put

it all together. Friday night againstBatavia, UM, they won pretty handily
and I'm one of their I thinktheir coach that probably the best game they
played in a couple of years,which is saying something because um, they've
only had a couple of good years. So UM Lake Park gets to win
there, UM stays a couple ofgames behind the two Saint Charles's UM,
I know, kind of outside ofthe Tri Cities area. But Klin gets

a win on Saturday night at Sandwich, so you know, they continue to
play pretty well and they have apretty big game on Friday night at Ottawa
and at conference if I'm not mistaken. Right now, Plano who's playing great.
Them in Sycamore are tied for thatconference lead with Kanlin and Ottawa right
under heels. Yeah, Calon's gota nice stable of different guys. You
know, Brett David um Jamar andMeeks is a sophomore guard that continues to

get some nice playing time too.Probably doesn't get sidohole lot, but Porter
Conroy can rebound. You know,I haven't seen Klin in a while,
but you know, just getting theirstats and and you know keeping track of
them. You know they they're they'rea solid team. They're gonna be a
tough out once it gets into regionalplay. Yeah yeah, Um, Well,
before we kind of go over tothe girls side of things, we
talk about a few kind of goingson outside of the conference, outside of

the of the King County area.I mentioned a team that's playing great basketball
in the Kendall County. Airplane.They are playing some really good basketball on
Friday night or Saturday night rather.They went to Ottawa. They led thirty
three to five after the quarter.I thought that was like a typo when
I saw that, but it wasn'tand they won by twenty eight. Griffin

Cross, you've seen him play athleticsix six sixty seven player. He's playing
greade for them. Robbie Tay ortheir other posts. Mason accidentally a really
talented guard. Um. They're playinggrade and right like I said, they're
tied for Sycamore for the conference rightnow. Sycamore did beat them the first
time at Sycamore, but they Ibelieve they should play again at Plane.

So they're playing really good over inuh kind of du Page County, Um
York continues to play well. Theybeat a sort of resurgent Lions Township team
on Friday night in a really goodgame. Nate Shockey North Dako to recruit
one of the better players I thinkin the Chicago area. He had a
really big game for them. SoYork continues to play well. Hinsdale South

I talked about them before. Theygot a big win in a West Suburban
Gold Friday. They beat Morton matchwith two teams at the top of the
conference. They won their twenty secondgame, which is a program record or
a tie the program record that theyhad a few years ago when they had
Zion Griffin who went on to play. He's at Iowa State now. So
good things going on then. Andthen a couple more Uh Friday night.

I don't know if you said,did you see the final of the wester
Rory Yorkville game. I remember seeingit, but I don't remember. Yeah,
crazy finish Yorkville led by I thinkone or two in the final seconds
and Kelvin Balfour from West Aurora.He banked in a shot from beyond half
court to win the game. Andjust it was at wester Roora and of

course Can Studio so I really agreat finish for West Aurora in that game.
UM. A tough loss for Yorkville, UM, but really wild finish
UM. But U Yorkville. Igot to see them standing night against Oswego.
Swego came out with a win there. Oswego has a big game tomorrow

night at Walbonsee Valley, a matchupof two teams that are probably gonna be
Walbonsill probably be like the two threein that sectional. Sowe will probably be
like the four of the five.So I'm really looking for I'll be there
for that game, really looking forwardto that matchup. A lot of great
stuff on the guys side, JoshRow if we if we can go over
to the girls side of things,UM, we'll stick with a cane first

cane area. I saw two matchupsearlier in the week. UM. I
got to see Batavian Whedenmore Inville South. UM. Certainly perhaps not the best
offensive showing for Wheat and South,but that is a program that loss a
ton from the five starters, andthey've been they have been like starters for

three or four years. I mean, so they are in a complete rebuild
retool UM, and they're just kindof slowly getting a little bit better game
by game. I know, offensivelythings are a little bit tough for him,
but they're going to continue to playgood defense. Uh, and they're
gonna be active. And we sawthat against Patavia. I know, um,
you know, Aaron Golden got herpoints in test Towers, but um,
nice win for Batavia. And thenI saw kind of like the marquee

game of the week Geneva and theSaint Charles and with Girls, Saint Charles
and with Girls getting a huge winfor them first time in at least five
years at Geneva. You know,you go back and you're trying to find
it and then it wasn't there.But it's a huge win. That was
the first time that they had obviouslywon in like Lonnie's anybody on that team,
so obviously that meant a lot tothem. Um was out without Lindsay

Blackmore, but that aside, SaintCharles Roth absolutely earned that win. Um
and they they they clicked. Itwas fun. Yeah, really good win
for them, Really good job.Lonnie's been playing some great basketball for them
and and I think we talked aboutit last week on our podcast that Saint
Charles North always plays Geneva. Itseems like last two years they've always been

played Geneva as tough as anybody inthat league, and certainly it was a
case again that night. Obviously LindsayBlackmore not playing is is kind of a
big loss for Geneva not having her. But that's not to take anything away
from the y that Saint Charles Northdid. I mean, that's that's a
really good win for them. UMkind of reset where that league because that
was a big night in that league, Geneva losing. UM. I was

at lake Park to see them playWheaton North. UM Lake Park m came
away with a win, a twopoint I think one or two point win.
It was a close game. UMwon that game, and then lake
Park on Saturday beat Saint Charles North. So Lake Park right now has one
loss in that league. UM Genevaa game back at two losses. UM
they still play each other, Ithink in another week or two. So

UM I mentioned that I was atLake Park on Thursday night. Uh.
Darian Rodgers, We've talked about hera lot. UM. She's she's such
a talented player. Going to DePaul. She really had at a tough
game. She only scored eleven points, which for her is like, wow,
that's really that's not a lot ofpoints. She's averaging twenty six one
She's already twenty six points on ayear, So she only scored eleven,

but other girls stepped up and didtheir job. But it was a good
night for Darren Rodgers. She scoredher nineteen nineteen hundredth career point. Now
that sounds really impressive considering she's probablygonna get to two thousand because they have
a number of games left and she'saveraging twenty six a game, so that's
a really impressive feat. Now,let me tell you her freshman year,

she played four minutes. She toreher acl four minutes into her freshman year
on the varsity team. She didn'tplay her whole freshman year, and she
still is at nineteen hundred career points. Now, how's that doing. It's
that's quite incredible. I honestly didnot know that. I didn't know that
she suffered that injury. But Imean, we especially know how kind of
devastating those things can be, andI mean, thank goodness for modern medicine.

A lot of players can kind ofcome back in a timely fashion.
But you know, your body's neverthe same after that, you know,
and you have to compensate for it. So the fact she's able to in
a big, big way, Yeahyeah, I mean yeah, hatch off
to her. Congrats. That's awesome, so really really good. When they're
for Lake Park on Thursday. UM, just kind of touching outside of the

Kennel area. I saw again Oswego. Um they played on Saturday night.
They they beat Yorkville. Oswego isplaying really good basketball. They are now
I believe they're either tied with WestAurora for that conference leader. They're a
game up in the SBC West.They have a big game on Friday night
at West Aurora. So interested tosee how that turns out. But Oswego
is playing very good basketball right now. Jay got something over in uh No,

you know. The only other thingand it's not a rehash of of
of last week, but a lookahead. M Bennett. Um. On
Saturday night they are playing Evanston atWelsh Ryan Arena. I'm very interested to
see how that turns out. Thoseare two of the top two or three
teams in the state. I wouldsay, um so uh and it's a
shootout. There's two boys games,and then the Marquis game is the girls

game and for a good reason.Yeah. So, uh so that's a
really big game to look forward to. I liked it. I like the
Welsh Trying Arena because I because I'veused to go there with my dad when
we'd see the Midlands wrestling. Yeah, for several years. Um, I
know they I think they've rehabbed itand renovated. So it's all nice flits
and glamor. But that's always afun thing to play in a college service.
Yeah, real quickly, Josh,we we'd be remissed without mentioning catchment

and the point he brought it up, I mean it just we talked about
this before. You know, shegot this is not her fifteen hundredth career
h points. You know she's secondall time and scoring. How did and
to tap this all off gets thegame winning three buzzer beat buzzer beat or
three pointer? Yeah, boy,what a week, What a week.
And I had a chance to talkto her um last weekend, and um,

I did not realize the boy,I haven't been in an area like
that long, so I didn't realizethat her dad was a head coach and
and he was a head called UMfor their former career. Well, the
girl that right now is number oneon her career swaring was um. She
set the record back in like twothousand and three, and he was the
head coach for a number of yearsand he still coaches middle school basketball and
high school track. UM. Butit's interesting a girl like that who's obviously

grown up around the program, umwas. Her dad's been taken her to
games for a long time. UM. So she appreciates the history the program
and the great players that have comebefore her. UM. And she passed
a really good one Sam Pryor uhrecently so uh, just a she's a
really fine young way to talk to. I enjoy talking to Cat win or
lose. She will, she willtalk, and she obviously knows the game

of basketball very well and just humble. UM. In addition to the number
of her teammates too, you know, not just one or two. I
know, we talked about Cat andAlana a lot. Alana got a nice
offer from Indy over the weekend.To Maddie Menkey, she's been playing really
good for him. Yeah. It'sjust a real enjoyable team. Yeah.
Yeah, so they're they're playing welland they got a really big win this

week, so look forward to seehow they do in the near future.

Rory Yorkville game. I remember seeingit, but I don't remember. Yeah,
crazy finish Yorkville led by I thinkone or two in the final seconds
and Kelvin Balfour from West Aurora.He banked in a shot from beyond half
court to win the game. Andjust it was at wester Roora and of

course Can Studio so I really agreat finish for West Aurora in that game.
UM. A tough loss for Yorkville, UM, but really wild finish
UM. But U Yorkville. Igot to see them standing night against Oswego.
Swego came out with a win there. Oswego has a big game tomorrow

night at Walbonsee Valley, a matchupof two teams that are probably gonna be
Walbonsill probably be like the two threein that sectional. Sowe will probably be
like the four of the five.So I'm really looking for I'll be there
for that game, really looking forwardto that matchup. A lot of great
stuff on the guys side, JoshRow if we if we can go over
to the girls side of things,UM, we'll stick with a cane first

cane area. I saw two matchupsearlier in the week. UM. I
got to see Batavian Whedenmore Inville South. UM. Certainly perhaps not the best
offensive showing for Wheat and South,but that is a program that loss a
ton from the five starters, andthey've been they have been like starters for

three or four years. I mean, so they are in a complete rebuild
retool UM, and they're just kindof slowly getting a little bit better game
by game. I know, offensivelythings are a little bit tough for him,
but they're going to continue to playgood defense. Uh, and they're

you know, Aaron Golden got herpoints in test Towers, but um,
nice win for Batavia. And thenI saw kind of like the marquee

game of the week Geneva and theSaint Charles and with Girls, Saint Charles
and with Girls getting a huge winfor them first time in at least five
years at Geneva. You know,you go back and you're trying to find
it and then it wasn't there.But it's a huge win. That was
the first time that they had obviouslywon in like Lonnie's anybody on that team,
so obviously that meant a lot tothem. Um was out without Lindsay

Blackmore, but that aside, SaintCharles Roth absolutely earned that win. Um
and they they they clicked. Itwas fun. Yeah, really good win
for them, Really good job.Lonnie's been playing some great basketball for them
and and I think we talked aboutit last week on our podcast that Saint
Charles North always plays Geneva. Itseems like last two years they've always been

played Geneva as tough as anybody inthat league, and certainly it was a
case again that night. Obviously LindsayBlackmore not playing is is kind of a
big loss for Geneva not having her. But that's not to take anything away
from the y that Saint Charles Northdid. I mean, that's that's a
really good win for them. UMkind of reset where that league because that
was a big night in that league, Geneva losing. UM. I was

at lake Park to see them playWheaton North. UM Lake Park m came
away with a win, a twopoint I think one or two point win.
It was a close game. UMwon that game, and then lake
Park on Saturday beat Saint Charles North. So Lake Park right now has one
loss in that league. UM Genevaa game back at two losses. UM
they still play each other, Ithink in another week or two. So

UM I mentioned that I was atLake Park on Thursday night. Uh.
Darian Rodgers, We've talked about hera lot. UM. She's she's such
a talented player. Going to DePaul. She really had at a tough
game. She only scored eleven points, which for her is like, wow,
that's really that's not a lot ofpoints. She's averaging twenty six one
She's already twenty six points on ayear, So she only scored eleven,

but other girls stepped up and didtheir job. But it was a good
night for Darren Rodgers. She scoredher nineteen nineteen hundredth career point. Now
that sounds really impressive considering she's probablygonna get to two thousand because they have
a number of games left and she'saveraging twenty six a game, so that's
a really impressive feat. Now,let me tell you her freshman year,

she played four minutes. She toreher acl four minutes into her freshman year
on the varsity team. She didn'tplay her whole freshman year, and she
still is at nineteen hundred career points. Now, how's that doing. It's
that's quite incredible. I honestly didnot know that. I didn't know that
she suffered that injury. But Imean, we especially know how kind of
devastating those things can be, andI mean, thank goodness for modern medicine.

A lot of players can kind ofcome back in a timely fashion.
But you know, your body's neverthe same after that, you know,
and you have to compensate for it. So the fact she's able to in
a big, big way, Yeahyeah, I mean yeah, hatch off
to her. Congrats. That's awesome, so really really good. When they're
for Lake Park on Thursday. UM, just kind of touching outside of the

Kennel area. I saw again Oswego. Um they played on Saturday night.
They they beat Yorkville. Oswego isplaying really good basketball. They are now
I believe they're either tied with WestAurora for that conference leader. They're a
game up in the SBC West.They have a big game on Friday night
at West Aurora. So interested tosee how that turns out. But Oswego
is playing very good basketball right now. Jay got something over in uh No,

you know. The only other thingand it's not a rehash of of
of last week, but a lookahead. M Bennett. Um. On
Saturday night they are playing Evanston atWelsh Ryan Arena. I'm very interested to
see how that turns out. Thoseare two of the top two or three
teams in the state. I wouldsay, um so uh and it's a
shootout. There's two boys games,and then the Marquis game is the girls

game and for a good reason.Yeah. So, uh so that's a
really big game to look forward to. I liked it. I like the
Welsh Trying Arena because I because I'veused to go there with my dad when
we'd see the Midlands wrestling. Yeah, for several years. Um, I
know they I think they've rehabbed itand renovated. So it's all nice flits
and glamor. But that's always afun thing to play in a college service.
Yeah, real quickly, Josh,we we'd be remissed without mentioning catchment

and the point he brought it up, I mean it just we talked about
this before. You know, shegot this is not her fifteen hundredth career
h points. You know she's secondall time and scoring. How did and
to tap this all off gets thegame winning three buzzer beat buzzer beat or
three pointer? Yeah, boy,what a week, What a week.
And I had a chance to talkto her um last weekend, and um,

I did not realize the boy,I haven't been in an area like
that long, so I didn't realizethat her dad was a head coach and
and he was a head called UMfor their former career. Well, the
girl that right now is number oneon her career swaring was um. She
set the record back in like twothousand and three, and he was the
head coach for a number of yearsand he still coaches middle school basketball and
high school track. UM. Butit's interesting a girl like that who's obviously

grown up around the program, umwas. Her dad's been taken her to
games for a long time. UM. So she appreciates the history the program
and the great players that have comebefore her. UM. And she passed
a really good one Sam Pryor uhrecently so uh, just a she's a
really fine young way to talk to. I enjoy talking to Cat win or
lose. She will, she willtalk, and she obviously knows the game

of basketball very well and just humble. UM. In addition to the number
of her teammates too, you know, not just one or two. I
know, we talked about Cat andAlana a lot. Alana got a nice
offer from Indy over the weekend.To Maddie Menkey, she's been playing really
good for him. Yeah. It'sjust a real enjoyable team. Yeah.
Yeah, so they're they're playing welland they got a really big win this

week, so look forward to seehow they do in the near future.
