(00:45):
Tsunami alerts issued for the US West Coast and Japan
after an eight point eight magnitude quake Hawaii. There's traffic
jams right now in Honolulu, people trying to get to
higher ground. Siren's going off. The fear, of course, is
not just gonna hit one beach, but it's going to
swirl around and possibly hit all of those islands. The
(01:07):
thing is, you just don't know how high the waves
are going to be or what exactly is going to happen,
but it's being monitored, so you have to trust what's
being monitored. And of course there are ways to do that,
and the idea is evacuate evacuate, evacuate and looking at
(01:27):
a map of the West coast or so many areas.
I know we have listeners up and down the coastline,
but if we look even too Oregon, and I'm talking
to you, everybody in the money station, I'm hoping you
heed that advice. But the earthquakes epicenter is about one
hundred and sixty seven miles southwest of Newport, Oregon. So
(01:50):
an advisory because it's broken down different for every place.
The advisory means should be prepared for potential hazardous currents
and unusual wave activity for sure. For sure, the US
National Tsunami Warning Center issuing a tsunami advisory again for
the Oregon coast due to that earthquake. If you were
(02:11):
to look at a map, it is scary too. It
is very scary to see it because it's too soon
to say how destructive or widespread the waves would be. Initially,
waves that hit Japan were smaller than initially forecast. But
authorities across the Pacific are urging vigilance in ordering evacuations,
(02:33):
and they're right because the impact could differ from different places.
I like explained Hawaii. It's like the governor there Josh
Green says it is possible, and that's what he is
being told that you could see there ten foot tsunami
waves for the coasts of the northern Hawaiian Islands. So
(02:53):
he's telling people to immediately evacuate the coastal zones. And
that's exactly what they are doing. So, you know, when
it hit Russia off a sparsely populated far eastern coast,
it was eight point eight. But that quake is the
quake is the joint sixth strongest ever recorded, that the
(03:19):
strongest ever recorded. Right, So the key is if you
get to that higher ground, then that's okay, right, You're
just you're doing it. And the best thing can happen
is the waves are not anywhere near what's being predicted,
and then you are able to saw clear and you're
able to go back. And that's exactly what we want
to see happen. The Bay Area, they're town, the people
(03:41):
in San Francisco. Definitely, people should prepare to evacuate, need
to do that. And then of course the other part
of this is the striking times, the possibilities of when,
and so with Hawaii, it's seven, you know, seven o'clock
at night for them a little bit different. Still light
(04:04):
out seven seventeen, specifically Washington State eleven forty Pacific time,
Oregon eleven forty, same thing, California, San Francisco twelve forty,
twelve forty is what they're talking about. And Malibu, San
(04:26):
Diego one five a m. So yeah, this is. And
then of course in Japan, there are whales that are
washing ashore along the Japanese coastline. So there are you know,
and I'm looking at waves, I'm looking at these whales.
I'm watching live cameras as I am talking to all
(04:48):
of you that are listening to the show, from you know,
Saint Louis to Lexington, Kentucky to New Orleans. You know,
we're I'm seeing four whales that wash shore along the
coastline after that earthquake triggered those tsunami warnings and watches.
I mean, it's just wow, my friends, absolutely wow. Please
(05:12):
be vigilant, and if you know people that are in
these areas, tell them, don't take the chances. Just get away.
For the rest of us, a lot of people are
dealing dealing rather with severe heat. I mean severe heat,
the kind you just don't mess with, the kind that
can cause death, the kind that causes emergencies seriously extreme heat,
(05:36):
the health risks, the serious heat related injuries. We've seen
this happen already in the past. Too many people die
from what happens the prolonged exposure to heat, the heat stroke.
There's vulnerable groups that would be at risk here. So
in Savannah, when they're talking about well over one hundred
(05:57):
degree temperatures, the battalion chief Wayne Itsel, who was on ABC,
had some great advice, some of the best advice that
I've heard.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Hydrate. That's number one. We tell people if you're hydrating
the day of, you're ready late. You need the hydrate
for tomorrow today.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah, and so that's the thing. And I've already told
my stories. I'm not going to go like the broken
record and tell it again. But I know because I
suffered that. Thinking, well, I'm pumping myself with power aid
and water, but it was the day of and it
wasn't even enough. So it is about the water, water, water.
And here's the other thing. Remember alcohol and caffeine that
dehydrate too. I'm a coffee drinker, I get it. Yeah,
(06:41):
don't go for the dehydration. Watch out, stay indoors if
you can. You know, I'm not getting on a big soapbox,
but I hate to see people get hurt, and that's
what we're seeing like in New York because it's so bad.
The subway lines is ridiculous. People got stuck. The subways
weren't working, a lot of power bumps and problems, that's
(07:02):
for sure. And New York has the other problem. Of course,
we're boldly a shooter who said he was suffering from
CTE drove within a couple of days from Nevada all
the way to New York, parking his BMW double parking
it boldly. He's on all surveillance footage. We talked about
(07:24):
that the other day, walking into a Park Avenue office
building that housed black Rock among other tenants, and of
course the NFL headquarters, which is where he was headed
but took the wrong elevator up. So it's sad to
see four people dying. Another person who is going to
be okay but had injuries. The NFL offices are closed
(07:49):
until August eighth. Roger Goodell telling everybody to take care
and work from home and support each other that way.
Here's what Mayor Eric Adams in New York said.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Our hearts break for the families and friends of the victims,
and we pray for the swift, the safe, recovered recovery
of the engine.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
And then the New York City Police Chief Jessica Tish
talked about the officer who was hired and was working
extra there and how sad he has a family and
the fact that he was killed and was one of
the victims.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
He put himself in harm's way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,
shot in cold blood, wearing a uniform that stood for
the promise that he made to this city.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Absolutely awful. All right, you want some good news, Yeah,
high clap for that too. Hey, Bubba Wallace, I met
him before, A really nice guy. Became the first black
driver to win a major race over the weekend on
the Indianapolis Motor Speedways two point five mile Oval. He
(09:02):
survived a late rain delay, two overtimes, concerns over running
out of fuel that was a bad one, and a
hard charging Kyle Larson on his tail for the Brickyard
four hundred, the third NASCAR Cup victory of Wallace's career.
Pretty significant. Yeah, good for him. Congratulations, that is pretty cool.
(09:25):
Man Cave coming up all right, we're back here on
ATN with me Kate Delaney. Wow, I'm just trying to
(09:49):
wrap my head around the tsunami possibilities. World's biggest quake
in fourteen years, eight point eight magnitude on the Russian Island,
tsunami warnings her serious stuff. Downtown Honolulu, if you've ever
been there, sirens blaring all over the place. They've evacuated
or they're evacuating Pearl Arbor right now. This is a
massive West coast alert. This is no joke, and I
(10:14):
hope people are taking it seriously. If you look at
wave arrival times, they just got those you're looking at.
And I mentioned Hawaii, it's supposed to be about one seventeen.
I'll give it East coast times, so Hawaii time seven
seventeen PM, so you translate that to the East coast
to be one seventeen. Obviously in the morning, Washington State
(10:38):
eleven forty Pacific, two forty eastern time. Oregon. I talked
about Oregon. You know we have the money station there KBMP.
All of the people listening there. Oregon eleven point eleven
forty rather eleven forty Pacific time and two forty Eastern
(10:59):
California is San Francisco, specifically San Francisco. There's a little
bit of the time difference, so twelve forty Pacific time, California, Malibu,
San Diego one to five Pacific time. So do the
math on that, if we were, if we're all paying
attention to this, three forty eastern four in the morning, eastern. Wow.
(11:21):
And I just looked at They've got just unbelievable drone
footage in Russia. And this was again in a very
remote area of Russia. It's the west coast where there's
a lot of population. It's the Hawaiian Islands that are incredibly,
incredibly vulnerable here. And I hope people get to higher ground,
(11:48):
they evacuate, they take this seriously. There's enough time for
that to happen. So I feel better about that that
there is that lag time, and that the warnings are there,
The warnings are there, and they're out all right. Cutting
to something else and weather related is how hot it's
been sizzling hot for so many people, especially in the
(12:10):
southeast and in the Northeast. Terrible terrible weather. Yeah, it
really is like that, and I'm feeling it. I get it. Today.
I turned around in a walk and I thought, Wow,
you can't fight this. You can't say well, I'm in
good shape. No, no, you can't. In fact, I think
this woman in New York where they were having problems
(12:30):
with the subways shutting down because of the power, summed
it up and was very quick and to the point.
It's a steamy yeah, and that's what I felt. I
felt like I couldn't breathe, actually that it was crushing
me down. And right now, the temperature I am on
the East coast in the Great State of Florida, it
(12:52):
is ninety five decrees, ninety five degrees. But that's nothing
compared to Memphis, which again continues to get pummeled one
hundred and eighteen. We're talking about crazy temperatures one hundred
plus in so many areas. So here in Savannah, Oh Savannah,
it's just it's they're telling people just day inside. And
(13:14):
I think this Savannah Battalion Chief Wayne Itzel said it best.
I caught him on ABC, And this is the thing
people forget. So while you're listening to me and you're
in these areas, you drink water, drink water. It's the
day before you're drinking this preparing all the way through.
It's not drinking water while this is happening. Here's what
(13:36):
he said, hydrate.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
That's number one. We tell people if you're hydrating the
day of you're you're ready to late. You need the
hydrate for tomorrow today.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Great words, hydrate for tomorrow today. And that's where I
think people forget. I know I'm guilty of that, Like, well,
what are you talking about. I have brought all this
I have all this water, and even there, what they
do is they've got these vests that are cold packed
vests because you have to have emergency responders out there.
And even if they're doing that, it's the same thing.
(14:10):
It is just that dangerous, all right. At the top
of the show, we were talking again about that horrific
shooting in Manhattan, and it still is shocking and has
really gripped I mean, it really has gripped Manhattan. He
killed himself, but it's still about how did this happen?
What was wrong? The rambling note that he left saying
(14:32):
that he had CTE and that he was really headed
to go and kill people at He didn't say this
in the note, but that's where his that's where he
was going. He was he drove all the way through
a couple days from Nevada to get to the headquarters
of the NFL. That is totally the belief by everything
that they found. And here's the thing you have to remember,
(14:54):
I say this all the time when we have these
terrible things happen. What about the victims? What about the
people that didn't survive that because they happened to be
working in a different office. But he went on a
different elevator in this three forty five Park Avenue and
he encountered them and murdered them. As what he did.
(15:16):
Here's what Mayor Eric Adams said.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Our hearts break for the families and friends of the
victims and prayed for the swift, the safe recovered recovery
of the engine.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah, and then Jessica Tish, New York Police Commissioner, again
emphasizing throughout the day that it was one of their
own who was trying to protect the people in the
building who was killed. He was a father, he loved
his job, and he was there trying to do what
(15:52):
he would do as a New York City Police Department officer.
Did ral Islam, who worked out of the forty seven
Precinct in the Bronx.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
He put himself in harm's way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,
shot in cold blood, wearing a uniform that stood for
the promise that he made to this city.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
See, the thing about him is he was providing extra
security at the building. It's part of this program that
allowed private companies to pay the NYPD officers to go
and do that, and that's what he was doing. So
his wife is pregnant, he had two young sons. A
very very sad, sad thing, an awful, awful thing, you know,
(16:39):
to happen. I mean, what a tragic loss. And the
others too, same story. You had Wesley Lapatner who worked
at Blackstone, the global investment firm, and she was you know,
she was killed by the twenty seven year old gunman
as he walked through the lobby in that building. And
(17:03):
she was the managing director of real estate for them,
and she just happened to be there at that time.
And she was somebody who served on boards of the
Metropolitan Museum of Art and volunteered all over the place.
And she leaves behind two children, including a seventh grader.
Wow again victims. Alain Ettina worked for McClain Security as
(17:29):
an unarmed security guard. That was another one who also
was killed too as well. Julia Hyman another one, the
fourth victim who worked on the thirty third floor of
the office building, and she was there when he got
off the elevator and unfortunately was right in her sights.
(17:50):
And then there's an unidentified NFL employee who was also
shot and taken to the hospital with serious injuries in
stable condition. To a message sent to employees from NFL
Commissioner Roger Goodell, in fact, the NFL offices are going
to be closed until at least August eighth, telling the
people in New York to work remotely and take care
(18:15):
and support each other and just we're here for you,
We're part of a team. But they're not even going
back into the building. That's how they feel about it.
So again, just a terrible, terrible, terrible thing. All I mentioned.
Of course, the big focus here is going to be
(18:35):
the earthquake and what's happening with this tsunami possibilities, right,
But there are other things. There's Russia reacting to Trump's
deadline on the Ukraine ceasefire, because there is a big
push there to say, Okay, we're done with this so
now you've got we've got a ceasefire deadline, and you
(18:59):
got a couple of weeks to figure this thing out.
Of course that was all before this earthquake and whatnot.
But we're seeing what continues to happen with Ukraine. Even
though there's more weapons, there still is more drone action,
and there still are more potential, potentially innocent victims as
we've already seen so much loss of life there. And
(19:25):
while that's happening, the other thing that is still continuing
to grip so many in this country is Julaane Maxwell
and the Epstein issue. And you know, the President has
given his most complete account of why and when he
met Epstein why he ended his relationship because he said,
(19:45):
Epstein they kept stealing people from his spot in mar
A Lago, and he told him to stop it, and
he wouldn't stop it, So that was the end of
their friendship. Wow, I mean, this is Epstein. Just this
whole thing is not going away anytime soon. There is
still the push to know more about the supposed book. Oh,
(20:20):
summertime my favorite it means backyard barbecues and certainly good food.
Who do we have with us next? One of my faves.
She's got the scoop on a few must haves to
make it easy, flavorful, yum and fun. Lifestyle editor joe A. M. Butler. Joey,
and thanks so much for coming on.
Speaker 6 (20:38):
Ah, thanks for having me, Kate, good to be with you.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Absolutely. So, what are our summer entertaining essentials?
Speaker 6 (20:46):
Well, you want to have good stuff to make it easy,
and one of my best secret weapons is Hidden Valley Ranch.
I always have it on hand with me, especially in
the summertime, because it tastes so good on so many
things that you don't even and it comes in this
new easy squeeze bottle, so it's even easier to use,
no mess, less waste, and you just get the perfect
(21:07):
amount you squeeze on every single time. I'd love their
seasoning too, because it just takes food to the next level.
It's great on corn on the cob, for instance. It's
just a simple way to add a lot of flavor
and just bring everything up a notch. For corn, you
just add a little butter on there and then you
sprinkle it on and you're done. I also like to
season my meats with it long before I throw them
(21:29):
on the grill. It's amazing on chicken wings. It just
gives them this really you know, bold zesty flavor, and
of course you always serve them with the side of
dipping ranch, because what's wings without ranch? Right?
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (21:42):
You know it's National wing Day, Chicken wing Day.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Today, yum. Yeah. Yeah, I'm a huge chicken wing fan.
There's no about that. Yum. And I know you have
another special thing up your sleeve for.
Speaker 6 (21:58):
Us too, Oh I do, I do, I do summertime.
Summertime always screams cherries. Cherries are just like so yummy
and one of those things are like potato chips that
you don't realize how good they are until you start
eating them, you know, and you can't stop. But what's
good about cherries is that they're really good for you too,
so you don't have to feel bad about snacking on them.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
They're just like loaded loaded.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
With antioxidants and anti inflammatory properties. And did you know,
the redder of the cherry, the more you know powerful
they are, so that's so neat, you know. And sweet
cherries are also great, and so many recipes, like we
made some cherry burgers here that you can't see, but
they smelled amazing. Barbecued chicken and we made this amazing
(22:42):
cherry lemon cooler cocktail that's just little water, sugar seltzer
and lemon juice and the cherries so super refreshing. You
can do so many things with cherries, you know that
people don't realize. And Northwest Cherries has a great website
filled with all kinds of recipes at NW cherries dot
com slash and you can also, you know, preserve cherries.
(23:03):
You can freeze them, you can can them, you can
dry them, you can pickle them, and they have a
great website for that too, it's NW cherries dot com
slash Sweet Cherry Preservation, So definitely check that out. And
for Hidden Valley, you want to go to Hiddenvalley dot
com for their amazing recipes.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Sounds great, Joanne, always good stuff from you.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Thank you, oh thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
All right coming up and we thank her for that. Boy,
she made me kind of hungry for cherries. I haven't
had cherries in a long time. A good break to
do something a little bit lighter in our conversation there,
because the tsunami evacuations are absolutely on my mind, and
my concern is for all of you listening on the
West coast and in Hawaii. That's for sure coming up.
(23:50):
We're gonna look at the Fantastic Four. And also, you know,
there's the Naked Gun redo with Liam Neeson and Pam
Anderson and crazy questions do we care that possibly their dating?
They seem like super nice people, but it's so odd
the things that go viral and some of the focus
on what's happening with them. Yes, they just acted in
(24:14):
a movie together. But before we get there, here's here's
an update on what I know and information that's coming
in just rapidly worth mentioning again. Massive eight point eight
earthquake off the coast of Russia. Lots of tsunami warnings,
especially in Hawaii. They're evacuating. The President urged people to
stay strong and stay safe. You can monitor the tsunami
(24:38):
updates tsunami dot gov online tsunami dot gov on line.
There's no question that in Hawaii they're pushing. The National
Weather Service is calling for urgent action to protect lives
and property. The first tsunami waves forecasts to reach Hawaii.
I've already talked about this, but I'm going to say
it again. Just after seven fifteen pm local time Local
(25:05):
time that's when that's expected to hit. They're absolutely telling people,
visitors' residents to leave beaches and evacuate low lying areas,
go for higher ground, or at the very least, take
shelter on at least the fourth floor, not the second,
not the third. At least, they're saying at least because
if you can get higher, they're saying, get higher than that,
(25:27):
but at least aim aim aim, aim for the fourth
floor or higher. And this is gonna be the same
thing with people along the coast. There's no way. I mean,
we hope that none of this happens and that it's
smaller waves. But there is a reason for these alerts.
There's a reason that the Weather Service is tracking it,
(25:49):
and there's a reason that you can monitor the way
you can monitor it. Okay, we need to break from that,
and we need to talk about this because I had
a bunch of emails because you're always asking me, what
are you watching? What's going on? One of the movies,
so Fantastic four. You're seeing a million commercials for it,
and we're going to give you another one. Here is
a slice of a little bit of the trailer of
(26:09):
Fantastic four.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
Famous around the world, Please welcome the Fantastic Four. Mister Fantastic, Invisible.
Speaker 8 (26:26):
Woman, human Torch.
Speaker 7 (26:31):
I love you, Johnny and the Thing.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Hey, what time is it?
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Say the thing?
Speaker 1 (26:36):
That's not really something. I say it's coming time.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
That's just in the cartoon. Never re leaved for Sunday dinner.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
Let's see.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Hey, what time is it?
Speaker 5 (26:49):
It's dinner time.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
Get inside.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
I prology this beginning.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
I harold your end. I harold Galactus.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
What is that?
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Get us out of here?
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Friends, always safe.
Speaker 8 (27:26):
I don't know. The club is ticking. We are going
to find a solution. We are going to make it right.
You don't want to just crush him, hide that. The
four of us will face the danger. We will protect you.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
So the Fantastic Four, Wow, big leaps. It opened this
past weekend, and of course it's a new phase of
the superhero movies. Absolutely from mar Studios. Pedro Pascoal is
one of my favorite actors. He's in it. It opened
number one in the US and in Canadian theaters by
the way too. So how much money approximately one hundred
(28:13):
and seventeen point six million at the box office for
its opening weekend. Yeah, that's what we call money, money, money,
money money, that's for sure. That is big. Yeah, as
a man said, that's exactly what it is. That's I
(28:34):
think that's just going to continue to shoot up. Something
about nostalgia the way they did this one. Some of
the people that are in the movie. I have it
on my list. I gotta tell you it's on my
It's definitely on my short list for sure. So it
definitely exceeded pre release estimates, and it's expected to really
(28:55):
shoot a lot higher than that. I mean, I think
the expectation was it be like one hundred million, right,
So yeah, it did much better than that. So how
about that all right, Naked gun? Naked Gun movie. It's
very slapsticky if you go back and you look at
it from way back when, but very funny, just funny,
(29:18):
silly funny. I think we need silly funny here. There's
something about that. So in this cast, you got lots
of familiar faces, including Pam Anderson and Frank Drevin Junior
is played by Liam Neesen. So there's this big rumor
that there was so they were so good together as
(29:40):
that you know, had its had a has its big
pre release and all of that, and and so there's
been this thing that's been floating around that, Oh they're
both single and they're dating each other. And they were
on one of the morning shows. I think it was
the Today Show. Yeah, because Craig Meltain interviewed them. Take
a listen to to how they kind of handle the
(30:01):
silly questions what Craig the question.
Speaker 8 (30:10):
We met I had never met before.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
I heard when that one said, and we discovered we
had a lovely budding.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Chemistry, a connection as two actors. I'm just like, oh,
this is nice.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Let's not mold less, let's just let it breathe.
Speaker 8 (30:27):
And that's what we did.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
I like him. Good for them. So The Naked Gun
is in theaters on Friday and at the preview parties,
and that they both have two sons, and the two
sons were with them, and I thought that was cute.
But it looks like it'd be funny. There was there's some,
like I said, some really strong actors in it. And
it's going to be again the slapsticky laughs that we
(30:52):
all need when we're looking at the things around us
that just make you want to cry. We need that
comic relief, and this is very good comic relief, I think,
and I I just on the little bits and pieces
I've seen. You got. Even Bust of Rhymes is in this,
this bank robber. So I think it'll I think it'll
(31:13):
live up it, It'll live up to a little bit
of the hype that it's creating. We're going back into
recreating something and creating the haha funnies. But I'm gonna
give it a you know, I'm gonna give it a
thumbs up already, right, And to Pam Anderson and Liam
Neeson if they do hook up together, good for them,
(31:35):
all right? Coming up? Yeah, can we hear that again?
I love that whistle. I can't whistle. So coming up next,
your thoughts as we go to the mail bag, and
of course the pre market bell and our eyes are
on what's going on with possible tsunamis on the West
(31:55):
coast and in Hawaii.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I'm going to the man Cave, going to the may Cave.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Thank you, Andy. Yes, we are in the man Cave.
And of course people want to know. Now I've already
said this, We're getting deeper deeper still in the beginning
of the training camps. And because of that, you know,
we've already even had some injuries for there's conversation about
(32:31):
players and contracts. There's all kinds of things that are
going on. But here is something that's happened that's very controversial.
NFL Super Bowl tickets massive controversy. One hundred NFL players
were fine check this out. So you might not know this,
(32:53):
but the players, of course get tickets and they can
sell them. They are allowed to sell them for face value,
but they are not allowed to jack up the price.
So if they want to sell to family members or whoever,
they're allowed to do that. So the NFL sent a
memo to all thirty two teams at the tail end
(33:14):
of last week informing them of penalties to anyone who
broke rules regarding selling tickets for the Super Bowl between
the Eagles and the Chiefs. And they say the people
who violated the policy not only face fines, but could
also get suspended, depending on whether they choose to pay
the fine. Wow. I would think they would pay the fines, right.
(33:35):
I mean, the Super Bowl is typically one of the
most expensive events in sports every year, but players and
club employees get the first crack at getting tickets. And
I know that's true because I have family members who
work for teams, like my nephew works for the Dolphins,
and they'll get tickets to things, and he can he'll
(33:58):
send out an all call to the family at the
and I'm on that chat if we want tickets to something.
But he's not scalping the tickets. He has to be
very careful about that. So the NFL has fined one
hundred players and like I said, twenty four club employees
for selling the Super Bowl tickets above the face value
(34:19):
to bundlers. They say, which, you're not supposed to do that.
And as a result, the people who violated the policy
have to pay one and a half times the face
value of the tickets and aren't allowed. Here's the other thing,
to buy Super Bowl tickets for the next two seasons
if they aren't in the game. Wow, how about a
(34:40):
boo for those players? Yeah, come on, guys, come on, guys,
why do that?
Speaker 4 (34:49):
You know?
Speaker 1 (34:49):
And they do get pressure from family, especially if they're
in the game, because the cousin, the second cousin, the
fifteenth cousin down the line. Oh you didn't know you
had that great uncle that lives wherever, and you know
you look at the players I talked to the players
about that so much. I covered the NFL, you know,
up close and personal, and I just had this conversation
(35:09):
with a former player. They go crazy. They get beat
up for how many tickets can you give? So and
so wants tickets And they actually a lot of times
of people that hit them up think that the tickets
are free, which of course they aren't. But they know this.
It's a no, no, don't even go in that direction.
Why why do it? How much profit are you making
(35:30):
off of that? It makes you know, to me, it
makes no sense whatsoever. Yeah, no sense whatsoever. All Right,
A couple of other things. I want to cherry pick
a few stories here. This is boy, this is sad.
It's like I said, when you talk about injuries. So
Cleveland Brown's corner Martin Emerson Junior carted off the field
(35:54):
during Tuesday's practice after suffering an achilles injury. He's gonna
have an to confirm the severity of it. He suffered
the non contact left leg injury while he was doing
a drill and he tried to plan his leg at
the end of the play, but fell to the ground
in pain, took off his helmet, tossed it in frustration.
(36:15):
Knew he was hurt. This is a third round pick
of the Browns in the twenty twenty two NFL draft,
and he was going to enter the final bear of
his rookie contract. He's actually been in fifty games with
thirty three starts and has two hundred and two tackles,
a handful of interceptions in thirty four pass breakup. So
(36:36):
that's definitely not good news for him. I'd say that's
a boo, that's sad.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Boo.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Yeah, yeah, because I mean, again, you know when the NFL.
It's interesting when the NFL pushes for more preseason games
or they push to have more games than they have
to I think, cut down the preseason games. But injuries
are happening. This is a rough game. I mean, listen,
things happen and you're not even going to start the season.
(37:08):
Maybe who knows, hopefully it's not that bad. But that's
why they're doing the MRI. So that's the bottom line.
So all thirty two NFL training camps are open. There's
some interesting things that are going on with reps and competitions.
I mean, because you know the Steelers, they have a
competition even for kick returner. So these are the kinds
(37:29):
of stories and things and sidelines, and we're going to
go through all the teams deliberately, and I'm going to
just give you for the heck of it, I'm going
to give you my predictions. How's that. Here's another one.
Here's another injury. Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely is going
to miss some time. What happened with him. He rolled
(37:50):
his ankle on Tuesday, so, as coach John harbrough says,
it's probably a few weeks. What happened with him. He
went down toward the end of practice storing a one
on one drill and he was carted off the field
then limped into the locker room. Same thing they're going
to get in the MRI for Likely. He's in the
final year of his rookie contract. He's scheduled to make
(38:12):
three point four million this season. There you go, and
he had a great year last year forty two catches
forty seven to seven yards for that spot and six touchdowns.
But they have pretty deep on the Ravens tight end
group there, not just Likely. Obviously Mark Andrews kohlars there
(38:32):
and all three tight ends are scheduled to be free
agents after this season. But he's certainly for the play
from the players. He certainly doesn't want to be in that,
you know, in that situation. All right, there is the
(38:54):
arch madness that's going on, and what is the Arch madness?
So Cleveland Rounds co owner Jimmy Haslam on Tuesday dismissed
because he keeps getting asked about the speculation that he's
looking at Texas quarterback Arch Manning in the twenty twenty
six NFL Draft. I mean, please people, he's a he
(39:16):
haslim is a Tennessee alum. Hm. He has strong relationship
with the Manning families. Hmmm, including Peyton, who is Arch's uncle.
Of course, the Browns have two first round picks in
next year's draft. He's gonna be eligible. So there, that's
gonna be the question all year. He's gonna get asked
that question all the time. That's what's gonna happen. And
(39:37):
he's just gonna sidestep it, right, That's what's gonna happen.
So we'll see. But I would say he's on the board.
I would be stunned if not. Let's put it that way,
all right, MLB, Let's mix in a couple of scores
for you I'm down with that. Are you down with that?
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (39:55):
You are?
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Diamondbacks. So they got throttled. The Tigers took him down
twelve two, picking up in front of the home crowd.
There's sixty third. Same thing with the Guardians. The Rockies
made it no contest ten to four final, and that
when the Yankees beat the Rays easily seven to five.
Bellinger one of those who homered against the Race. The
(40:21):
Dodgers and the Reds had a tight game, but the
Dodgers rallied to beat the Reds five four. The Royals
knocked off the Braves nine to six. The Red Sox
notched another win in eight five are against the Twinkies.
The Brewers at home beat the Cubs again nine to three.
(40:41):
Andrew Vaughn really shined in his performance as they clobbered
the Cubs where they needed to. The Phillies with the
nice bounce back beating the White Sox six three. They
struck early and that's what it took, so they didn't
have to look back. Marlin's blanked the Cardinals, ah Cardinal
(41:02):
Fans five four ooh. Against the Marlins, the Astros, hosting
the Nationals, beat them seven to four. Padres seven to
one over the Mets. Pirates beat the Giants, three A's
beat the Mariners six one. The A's are forty seven
(41:23):
sixty three on the season. Oh, everybody's talking about Caitlin Clark.
She's missing yet another game with injuries. So it's been
I want to say, it's been about uh, it's been
five games. So and then there was this. There was
the fifty five year old Texas man who told police
(41:45):
he was in an imaginary relationship with the WNBA star.
He was sentenced two and a half years in prison
on Monday after pleading guilty to stalking and harassing the
Indiana Fever guard. Michael Lewis from Denton reached a deal
with the prosecutors where he pled guilty to one felony
count of stalking and one misdemeanor count of harassment. He
(42:08):
was ordered to stay away from the Gamebridge field House,
hinklefield House, Fever events, Pacer Organization events, and have no
contact with Clark, who is twenty three. Also, he's not
going to be allowed internet access during his sentence. Wow,
all right, coming up next, we got a great author.
(42:31):
Oh my gosh, this woman can weave a tale like
no other. That's coming up in Author's Corner. Oh, I
(42:59):
can't tell you what a pleasure it is as always
to welcome Ronda Baine to this show. I think she
is such a prolific writer and the avenues that she
takes are fascinating, and just the way she weaves it
into the culture amazing to me. I really really mean that.
So we're glad that she's here on AC as part
(43:19):
of America Tonight with Me, Kate Delaney and Ronda. So
how are you.
Speaker 5 (43:25):
I'm doing great today?
Speaker 1 (43:27):
Good, good, good, good, because we want to talk about
the Banking Caper Bill and Sophia City of Grove Series
book two. You and I talked about this a lot
as you were writing it, and I couldn't wait to
see how you tied it up. So tell everybody what
inspired you to write this particular story.
Speaker 5 (43:46):
Well, I was looking for a theme, trying to figure
out what to write about, and I decided to write
this woman writing living, uh, working in a bank. She's
bank manager, and all of a sudden, someone shooting at her.
(44:08):
And as she's walking to the bank, so shooting at her,
and she can't figure out why is it anyone shooting
at her?
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Why she doesn't have any.
Speaker 5 (44:21):
Enemies or she so she thinks and uh so, and
she just ignores it. She just pretends it doesn't exist,
and she doesn't tell anybody. She doesn't tell her boyfriend,
she doesn't tell the police. She just ignores it, totally
(44:43):
pretends it doesn't exist.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
Wow, So she pretends it doesn't exist. So what a
basis of a story there? And where we're not telling
everyone everything? But where do you take us from from there?
Speaker 5 (44:57):
And then she she uh, uh, well, her her boyfriend
owns his own security company, so he's he's helping her.
She eventually uh confides in him and tells him about it,
(45:22):
and then he starts he's He's like, what haven't you
told this before? And uh uh so she's uh. And
then she finds out that her former boyfriend expects her
to help her rob the bank, but she works in right,
(45:53):
and she's like, you've got the beginning.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
So does she feel trapped and threatened?
Speaker 5 (46:03):
Oh? That definitely.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
She would be trapped and threatened. I mean you start
with boys she's getting fired at doesn't understand. Then there's
that other angle of that, and then there's the boyfriend
who can run security basically for from what you're saying.
And we are fascinated by banks and bank robberies and
things that happen in banks, aren't we? Is that part
of why you came up at the.
Speaker 5 (46:28):
State In the middle of it all? I have a
little boy whose cat ends up on the roof of
her house. Wow, it's for fun, right, And she has
to figure out how to get this cat off the roof.
Speaker 1 (46:50):
Yeah, so's f Yeah, and.
Speaker 5 (46:54):
I've never done that before, but she does, and she
she goes up there kind of kind of kind of
gets this cat off the roof. She's like, where's your
mom and dad? Why don't they come over here and
get the cut off exactly?
Speaker 1 (47:16):
So she does the good Samaritan thing. So that tells
us a little bit about Sophia. What else is Sophia? Like,
what are what are some other things about Sophia that are.
Speaker 5 (47:25):
Into She Well, she went on the Buddy Moon with
Tom and Lisa, So she's she's from that group. She
she was on that group. So she and Bill were
on that on the Buddy Moon. And so she comes
from that other book. So she's she's she's coming in
(47:46):
from that other book. And uh, so we're so we're
traveling in from the other book and uh so, uh
so this book is a continuation a series from the
(48:07):
other book.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
Yeah, and the first book. We'll tell everyone Buddy Moon
is great, Lisa and Tom. And it's like I said,
it's this time. It's the City of Grove series book one.
And as you say, this is the second.
Speaker 5 (48:19):
Part, right, and Grove is the imaginary city that that
these people all live in. And Grove is outside of
the big city of Houston and the uh uh yeah.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
And it's about you know, as you talk about buddy moon,
it's that they all go away and it is a
buddy moon. They're not like Bill and Sophie and others
aren't boyfriend and girlfriend.
Speaker 5 (48:51):
Then yes, therefore they can become a couple. And they're
they're just starting as a couple. So they I have
them going uh dates, and they go down to Keema,
down to uh which is not uh not close to Houston,
(49:16):
but it's not too far away. It's within driving distance
and uh it's probably an hour away and uh uh
and they have like a ferris wheel and uh uh
shops and things like that, and uh uh so I
(49:40):
have them drive down there and have them have them
uh uh do the uh tourist thing. Even though they're
from the from the city, from the area, they still
look like tourists.
Speaker 1 (50:00):
But it's a good way for them to be to
get to know each other. It's a good way for conversation.
Speaker 5 (50:06):
Yes, and uh uh. It also gives them something something.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
To do exactly versus what the normal thing is where
you just go out for a meal or do something
like that, where you're kind of exploring even the area
that you know, but has all these other exciting, cool
things to do. And with this book with Bill, what's
Bill's personality like?
Speaker 5 (50:36):
Oh? Bill is uh Bill's personality. Bill has a Bill's
real responsible. He has this security company. He's very responsible,
He's protective. He he he wants to protect Sophia. He
(51:03):
wants to uh keep her from harm. He wants he's
in the process of his company is growing, so he's
in the process of hiring people and uh uh so
uh he's he's uh he's growing his own company and
(51:31):
it's he used to belong to it to a computer
company and now he's he's branched off into his own company.
And uh uh he has his he has a ah
uh secretary that uh is a gum chewing, spike haired.
Speaker 4 (51:58):
Blond on.
Speaker 5 (52:02):
Secretary nice and she's got all this spiked hair in
but she's but she's good, and she's she's real organized
and she doesn't sound like she's chewing them when she's
on the phone, which.
Speaker 4 (52:20):
Is very mp.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
That's when I said, you have such a gift, such
a knack for really, That's why I asked you what
the characters always for everybody listening, we fall in love
with characters, We want to feel them, know them, and
you really do such a great job in all of
your books with that. And it's fun to watch this
journey when people read this one, the Banking Caper, and
we don't know what happens at the end. You really
(52:45):
set us up for that. What do you hope though
some of the takeaways are for people when they read
your novel, Well.
Speaker 5 (52:54):
First of all, I want them to enjoy the novel,
have fun, to enjoy having fun with the novel, to
uh to try to guess what's going to happen next
(53:16):
and see if they can figure out what's going to
happen next or if they're if they're right or wrong,
and what happens in the characters and what happens in
the in the bank, because the bank still is still
(53:40):
there and it has to be protected. It has to
be protected also.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
Right, So I think people should pick up The Banking
Caper because that's the second book in the series, but
also pick up the first book if you haven't read it,
and you can read the one and then read the other,
and of course the other one we've talked about. Buddy Moon,
Lisa and Tom City of Grove read book one and
this is book two. I can't wait to see what
you come up with next. It's always interesting and entertaining
(54:07):
to talk to you, and what a delight. So thank
you so much, Rhnda.
Speaker 5 (54:12):
Thank you, thank you for having me on this show.
I really appreciate it.
