Speaker 1 (00:11):
Hey, hey, everybody, how you're doing.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It's Kate Delaney here on atn the Rcuritary Board of
Talk Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
I hope you had a fabulous weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
As we are now kicking deeper into the week, a
couple of weeks left in August. Before you know it,
it will be Labor Day for some. That means kids
go back to school. Already a lot of kids are
back in school and into their second week.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Wow, big news.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
It was all about what was happening in Washington, DC.
We've been talking about it for a long time. Of course,
what's going on Ukraine Russia. This time it was Alenski,
his ability to shine along with European leaders in a
meeting with the President that all eyes, all hands, all
(01:00):
everything on deck for this one. Here's what Trump said
right after the meeting.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
We got to save them. We got to save it.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Five thousand and six thousand, seven thousand people sometimes a week.
All of us would obviously prefer an immediate ceasefire while
we work on a lasting piece, and maybe something like
that could happen.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
As if this moment it's not happening.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
But President Zelensky and President Putin can talk a little
bit more about that.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
You know, in the six or so wars that we.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Stopped, we haven't had a ceasefire, and so I don't
know it's necessary.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
You can do it through the war, but it would.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Be I like to cease fire from another standpoint, you
immediately stopped the killing. But I believe a peace agreement
at the end of all of this is something that's
very attainable and it can be done in the near future.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
The near future means maybe a couple of weeks where
we're talking about a trilateral meeting. There was some conversation
about that, including the fact that Germany said confirmed that
putin Zelenski they would have their own meeting first and
then the move would be to include the United States.
(02:13):
Here's President Zelenski and then a little bit more of
our president at the end, talking about what's happening next.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
I hope that we will find decisions and then what
is very important that all the sensitive things territorial and
et cetera week we will discuss on the level of
leaders during trilateral meeting, and President Trump will try to
organize such meeting, and he said that he.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Will come or not come. Ukraine will be happy if if.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
You if you if you will won't be there.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah, thank you, And I think this is very important. Yeah,
so security guarantees, bring kids back and all our people,
not only warriors, first of all warriors and all the civilians, journalists,
a lot of people in prison, so we need them
back and guarantees which will work for the years. We
(03:11):
spoke about it, and I showed the President a lot
of details on the battlefield on the map.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Thank you for the map, by the way, it was great.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I'm thinking how to take it back.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
We'll get you.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
No. No, I think that we had constructive, specific meeting
and I'm very thankful to all the all the leaders
who are here, and you help a lot, and so we're.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Happy that we have such peak unity today. Thank you, mister,
thank you.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
I think you'll see that President Putin really would like
to do something else. I think when we set that up,
when we do, I think it's going to be when
not if, I think you're going to see some very
really positive moves. I know there's over a thousand prisoners,
and I know they're going to release them. Maybe they're
going to release them very soon.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Like immediately after the meeting, Trump had a call with
Putin and indicated that there was some progress toward one
of the major goals that you just heard there, orchestrating
a three way meeting between Putin, Zelenski and then ultimately
himself closer to home. When it comes to the weather,
Hurricane Erin, how bad will it be along the coastline?
(04:30):
Here's Michael Brennan, the director of the National Hurricane Center.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
While the forecast track of Erin still has the center
of the storm remaining between the North Carolina outer Banks
in Bermuda, as we go from Wednesday into Thursday morning,
the track has shifted westwards since yesterday, which will bring
a more enhanced risk of some of those peripheral impacts
into portions of the outer banks of North Carolina. So
this area between okra Cooke up to Oregon Inlet is
(04:55):
where we're expecting to see some of the most dangerous
conditions along the ocean front and e vacuum i have
been ordered for Okracoke Island and Hatteras Island in North Carolina.
So please see more information from your local emergency and
government officials in these areas.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, it's a good advice because it's not going to
hit the us directly, but it's going to impact those
places that he mentioned, the outer banks of North Carolina.
There's a lot of coastal floodwatches and tropical storm watches
and storm surge which we know could be terrible.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
The storm surge.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Could be as high as maybe they're saying five feet,
so that's nothing to play around with. And there still
are people that are vacationing there, people that live in the.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Outer Banks, but it's a huge vacation area. A lot
of those big homes are rented.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
They're part of like Verbo or Airbnb or whatever service.
So there are definitely people that have been told you
should be evacuated out of here, and that all happened
really on Monday. Want some good news, I think this
(06:05):
is all was really fun. When the Cambridge Dictionary adds
new words, six thousand new words right have been added,
including scimitti and delulu and tradwife.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Do you know what those are?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
You get a prize if you don't look it up
and you can tell me what those words mean. Well,
that's popular internet slang, is what it is. So the
thing is they're being recognized, So yes, it is internet slang,
but it's acceptable. So then it's like I said, it's
a question of of those words. Those were picked, and
(06:43):
of course they released that on Monday to tell people
that you know, it's up there, including phrases like red flag,
work wife. By the way, that's also added phrases that's
also added to the case Bridge dictionary.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
So and then delulu, I'm not gonna keep you hanging.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
You know what deululu means? I like, if you really try,
you might be able to figure out what it is.
It's a play on the word delusional. It means believing
things that are not really true because you choose to Oh,
isn't that every day that you do that? What are
they talking about there? And of course do we not
know what? Red flag is? Of course a sign that
(07:27):
something bad is.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Going to happen.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
It's a very popular term on social media certainly, but
before social media, trad wife, What do you think tradwife
is traditional wife referring to a married woman, especially one
who posts on social media, who stays at home doing cooking, cleaning,
what and has children that she takes care of. It
(07:51):
reflects a growing and yes controversial Instagram and TikTok trend
that embraces traditional gender roles, traditional gender roles, and scibbitty,
And this one's much tougher. Skibitty. It's a word that
can have a couple of different meanings like cool or
(08:13):
even bad, which don't they seem to contradict each other.
Or it can be used with no real meaning as
a joke. It's just a made up word. I got
a scibbitty for you. I think you'll think it's cool,
but coming up odds and ends a laugher of a moment,
(08:34):
definitely a laugher of a moment to break the tension
when it came to those high stakes meetings at the
White House, plus a crazy crazy mic drop that's on
the flip.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
I'll meet you there, Sack.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
You remember the last time that Zelensky was at the
White House and it ended up that there was oh
some shouting and him leaving and lots of interpretations as
to what happened at the White House, including one reporter
who made fun of him because he wasn't dressed.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
In a suit.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
That sort of came back into play this time around.
Speaker 7 (09:26):
First of all, mist President Zinsky, you look fabulous in
that suit.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I said, yeah, look, you look good. I said the
same thing.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Yeah, I said, the one that attacked you last time.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I remember that.
Speaker 7 (09:38):
Why don't you wear a suit? Why don't you wear
a suit? You're the highest level in this country? Is
all this, and you refused to wear a suit. You
look wonderful. No, my first question for you.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
President in the same suit.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
See I changed, young man.
Speaker 7 (09:57):
Maybe yours is much better.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Than Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
They call it dress for success, and I guess somebody
pays attention to the threads. It was a different kind
of look for him because he was militarily dressed up
the last time that he was there, which was one
that everybody would like to forget because there was no deal.
I remember that, you know, months and months ago.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Of course.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
How about this a robot giving birth? Yeah, I'm not joking.
This isn't futuristic. This is happening. Which I had to
read this a couple of different times. So, Chinese researchers
are developing a humanoid robot capable of carrying a fetus
to term using an artificial womb. The robot would feature
(10:50):
this womb that mimics natural gestation. The fetus would develop
in a synthetic amionic fluid and would get nutrients through
a tube similar to what a fetus is nourished with
in a biological womb. A prototype of the robot is
expected to be unveiled by next year. The cost of
(11:13):
it would be one hundred thousand you want, which in
US dollars is fourteen thousand dollars. So there wouldn't be
a maternal bond, So what kind of psychological impacts would
that be for the child? And there's not a real
lot of explanation on how the fertilization and implant process
(11:36):
would take place, how it would be managed within the robot.
Let's just say it that way. And then what about
the legal implications of that kind of technology? Uh yeah,
But what happened was I saw a photo of it
and it looked like it looked like a movie robot,
really well done, and then sort of a plastic belly
(12:00):
with a human baby like almost to the point of birth.
And I saw that I was like, Oh, here we go.
This is what a lot of people were very very
concerned with. All right, speaking of giving birth, do you
have a birthday today? If so, happy happy birthday to you. Oh,
(12:30):
my aunt's favorite, my favorite aunt, her birthday was today.
Aunt Nancy. I can remember as a kid begging my
mom to go and see her. She lived in Chicago.
We grew up outside of Philly, and I just wanted
to go and see her. They had so many cool
things they were doing out there, including going to a
Cubs game, which we did.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
And she has a big birthday to not today, not
the biggest of birthdays, but big birthday. Also celebrating a birthday.
Andy Samberg, he is forty seven years old.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
You might remember him from Saturday Night Live. I think
what he was really funny. He's really funny on the
digital shorts. They would do these funny digital shorts and
he was part of those from two thousand and five
to twenty twelve. He was actually part of that cast
and since then, I think a lot of people recognize
him from the police sitcom Brooklyn ninety nine, which he
(13:28):
also produced on that And he's funny.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
He is funny. He's when he's in these these little
quirky roles.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
I think he's he's really really, really good. I didn't
realize that he was forty seven's I don't know. For
some reason, he looks even he looks younger to me,
I guess, is what I'm trying to say. But you know,
it's interesting what he majored in. I was looking some
things up about him and I saw he majored in
(13:56):
a thing called experimental film. So as a kid, he
was making funny videos with his friends and then just
continue to do that. So I guess no surprise that
those sketches, which I thought he was so good at,
really kind of put him on the map when he
was a featured player on SNL because he was excellent, excellent,
(14:19):
excellent for sure at that He's not the only one.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Celebrating a birthday.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Also celebrating a birthday, it includes Parker McKenny Posey. That's
the name. You might not recognize. She's thirty years old,
but you probably have seen her if you're a flipper
on the tube at all. She was part of a
House Divided and she played the role of Summer in that.
(14:47):
She's been in a whole bunch of music videos, music
videos that have been nominated for Grammys, and she's probably
best known for Katie Kyle on TV show My Wife
and Kids. And then here's a big one for you.
Robert Redford eighty nine years old and of course, I
(15:11):
think the bulk of some of his good stuff was
if you're looking like I'm going back and look at
movies I was either too young to have seen or
just missed. Yeah, missed because I was too young and
wasn't paying attention to that, but or wasn't born yet.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Like Barefoot in the Park.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
That's a really good one.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Which still holds up today. It was crazy. Someone told
me to watch that.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Go back.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
He was in the sting famously in the seventies, The Candidate,
another one, All the President's Men.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
I like.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
He was a director for a movie that I really
like called A River Runs Through It that's from the
early nineties, and then also for Quiz Show he was
behind the scenes and that that was excellent. But he's
also portrayed people like Alexander Pearson, Captain America, the Winter Soldier,
(16:04):
which was like mid two twenty fourteen, fifteen something like that,
and even more recently The Avengers End Game if you
if you paid attention to that as well. But his
filmography would take the entire show to go through. A
Happy birthday to all those people I mentioned, and once
again to you if you are celebrating a birthday all right,
(16:28):
it is I keep saying this. I feel like every
show it used to be flight mares every single day,
and I do have a flight mare. But it's the
summer of the shark. An American in the Bahamas attacked
by a shark. Yeah, and you know those waters are
(16:53):
known to have sharks. I mean they have a high
rate of shark attacks. They've over the although I say
they have a high rate of shark attacks, but if
you kind of look these numbers up, there's like thirty
four confirmed unprovoked attacks over the last four hundred years,
So I don't know, is that a lot. But the
latest one was a sixty three year old American tourist
who was spearfishing. We just had a spearfisher from Florida
(17:16):
the other day the last show I talked about. So
he was attacked by a shark. He was treated at
a local clinic and then had to be airlifted to
the US for further medical treatment.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
But you know, severe enough.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
The injuries were a very popular tourist spot is you know,
is where that is where that happened. So here's the thing. Spearfishing.
You get the fish, you're going after the fish. I
kind of get that you're it's a little dicey, but
people aren't expecting that this was near Big Grand k
(17:55):
where it happened, and you know it's again the population
is there anyway, So the Royal Bohemian Police Force responded,
like I said, but he needed better treatment. So then
of course he was flown to a hospital in the US,
and by all accounts, he's going to be okay now.
(18:19):
Earlier this year, earlier this year, I was in Bimini
Bay and that's a well known area about fifty miles
from Miami. Two Americans were heard in a suspected shark
attack while they were swimming at Bimini Bay. And I
was thinking to myself when I was in the water,
this is the best water I've ever It's so clear,
(18:40):
and the sand is like you're melting, I mean your feet.
You're not sinking into it like quicksand, but you're melting
kind of into the sand. But yet, you know, hey,
this is the waters where maybe tiger sharks can pop up,
and there have been a bug of shark attacks, like
(19:02):
a Paradise Island. That's a place where I also was
more recently, and there was a ten year old boy
who was bitten in the leg during a shark tank
experience at Paradise Island. So that was another crazy, crazy thing.
All right, we're not making this up.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
We'll all be.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Part of next year's Shark Week. I'm so so certain
of it. Coming up news you need to know. Jesse
r Abercromie rather joins us for some great financial stuff.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
So check out this number.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Seventy four percent of Americans are optimistic about their financial future,
even in uncertain times.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
There's a new study that highlights the connection between professional
financial advice and confidence and how that can lead to
financially fulfilled life. Who doesn't want that? In our virtual
green room, he's going to tell us all about a
Jesse Abercromi financial advisor for Edward Jones. Jesse, thanks for
hopping on.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Thanks for having me, Kate, So I.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Love that headline. How are Americans feeling about their finances
in the environment that we're in right now? What did
you find out?
Speaker 8 (20:22):
Yeah, you know, Kate, despite some recent volatility and uncertainty,
our research found that a significant three quarters three quarters
of Americans are optimistic about their financial futures. And now
this study was conducted during a period of high volatility
in April earlier this year, the Marcus We're not our
best friends, but a majority of those responded, seventy nine
(20:42):
percent indicated that their own track to achieve or may
have already achieved a financially fulfilled life. And I think, Kate,
this really reflects the power of deep personal relationships and
trusted financial advice.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
So along those lines, what does it mean to be
financially fulfilled to live that life? And what are people
willing to do to really get there?
Speaker 8 (21:06):
You know, I think it starts with having the freedom
to pursue those passions. Right when you think about financial fulfillment,
if you are not stressing out about your finances, you
go on and have the creative you know, those creative
juices start flowing. It, go on and do pretty neat things,
whether it's something that can benefit you economically or just
something that makes you show up as a better person.
(21:27):
The second area around financial fulfillment is really making a
better life for yourself or your family and your family
for that matter. Most of my clients, when I meet
with them, they tell me, you know, I want to
have a financial situation that's better or equal to what
I had as a child growing up. And last is
really having security and protection from unforeseen events that can occur.
(21:51):
I think the way to do this is have three
to six months worth of expenses saved up in a
checking account or money market savings account, and then also
making you're taking those measures to protect from those unforeseen
events like having life insurance, long term care, disability, things
of that nature. I think that last one, having that
protection and security in place really helps with the first
(22:12):
two to pursue those passions and have a better life
for your family long term for you. So it's very
important that they do that to have a financially fulfilled life.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Oh I love it.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
That's great, great advice. What are the benefits Because I
said this in the beginning, that was one of the
things you found that there was more confidence when you
worked with someone. What are the benefits of working with
the financial advisor to get that financial fulfillment?
Speaker 3 (22:34):
You know, Kate.
Speaker 8 (22:35):
Financial advisors help the client take a holistic approach to
the finances and really create these strategies more tailored to
work toward goals. So when I think about your financial
goals short term, long term goals, I like to put
them in a category call your needs, wants and wishes,
and everybody has different needs, wants and wishes, which is
what makes it tailored. But also we help with those
(22:58):
financial literacy skills to help them Americans build optimism that
really financially fulfilled life is achievable for nice.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
So now the last one, where can we go to
learn more info?
Speaker 8 (23:10):
Yeah, so to learn more about this research, visit Edward
Jones dot com for slash Pulse.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Thank you, Jesse so much, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Thanks Kate, thank you.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
We continue to roll down the money money money path.
And while Newsmax has to pay sixty seven million dollars
to settle the dominion lawsuit over what happened in the
twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Election, many many many many many many many many many. Yeah,
they're going to be able to spread that out over
three years. But when you.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Look at that this is a defamation lawsuit. There have
been a couple of these with the dominion voting systems.
So the settlement allows the cable network to avoid any
kind of a trial. Newsmax said in a securities filing
that it would pay that, like I mentioned in three
installments over the current and the next two fiscal years
(24:12):
and then released a statement saying, look, we stand by
our coverage as fair, balanced and conducted within professional standards
of journalism. And it was back in two thousand and
twenty one that Dominion sued Newsmax saying that they aired
misinformation from Trump sarrogates, that's what they called them, who
(24:36):
claimed voting machine companies interfered with the election to sway
the results for Joe Biden. There were a couple of
other there were a couple of other lawsuits that Dominion filed.
Two Remember in twenty twenty three, Dominion and Fox settled
for seven hundred and eighty seven point five.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Million because they said the same thing.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
They were going to get were not They weren't going
to go down that path. And then there's ongoing defamation
lawsuits against one America News network, and there are a
couple of other lawsuits that are are still out there too.
So under the Supreme Court precedent, winning a defamation trial
(25:19):
has been pretty difficult because the plaintiffs have to prove
that a news organization, the whole think about a news
organization knowingly published a false statement or showed a reckless
disregard for the you know, for the truth. What I
think hurt Newsmax was earlier this year, a Delaware judge
ruled that Newsmax made false and defamatory statements against dominion,
(25:44):
So that also sort of helped along the way in
their case. We go from big Bucks to little Bucks.
Starbucks is going to give all North American salar Reid
employees a two percent raise this year.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
Modest right.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
The coffee chain is trying to keep they say, a
tight lid on costs because they've had to cut some jobs.
They've tightened dress codes, and they're working on incentivized ways
to keep the costs under control for executives that I
talked about this in a couple of shows ago, where
(26:26):
they have this thing called green Apron and they're trying
to reduce wait times when you go into a Starbucks
to four minutes that's it tops and make it more
of a coffee house where people hang out and they're
not going through the drive through. Which after we did
that story and I looked into a little bit more,
I looked around in my own spaces, because Starbucks are everywhere,
(26:48):
whether you live in a really small town, medium sized suburb,
or a huge city. You know, they had this thing
where they had many places Starbucks on one corner and
then across the street on another corner, because they were
going to capitalize on having the availability everywhere. But all
the places that I went, I'm not kidding you. I
(27:09):
just kind of did my own unofficial sleuthing. And because
they're everywhere, I was in ten different almost I'm going
to say eleven different places. And every place that I went,
like driving by or going to get the dog from
the vet, etc. Parking near a Starbucks like overflow amount
(27:32):
of cars going through the drive through and not many
people parked in the parking lot. So there is something
too that can they get people to sit and drink coffee,
hang out whatever it is, eat something that they have
there in Starbucks, and get that atmosphere.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
That they're trying to get back. I wonder if you
look at that and you do hang a little bit
and you're doing work, would there be a tendency to
and I'm going to spend a little bit more money?
All right?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Speaking of money, money, money, Air Canada, Oh Canada, more
flights canceled.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Cabin crews are like, yeah, we're not going to do it.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
They're defying the end to strike, so now it keeps
getting pushed. They said they're going to suspend all flights
through Tuesday afternoon. This started on Saturday. Thousands of flight
attendants defied all the orders by the government to come
back to their jobs. They are negotiating a new contract
(28:31):
and it completely has broken down. The flight attendants want
more money, they want better working conditions, and they're willing
to They say, go to jail for it. If the
government decides we got to put people in jail, that
this is what it takes to get a collective bargaining agreement,
(28:54):
then that is exactly what we're going to do. Prime
Minister Mark Carney said on Monday that it was pointing
that negotiations between the airline and the union where at
an impass and urged a resolution as quickly as possible.
There are hundreds of thousands of Canadians and people visiting
Canada that are totally disrupted by it. I mean, it
(29:16):
is a staggering amount of people that are stuck. So
you know they want ground pay. I guess they want
compensation for hours they work at the airport, like when
passengers are boarding. They weren't getting paid for that. So
if you do comparisons. It's kind of interesting. Alaska, American
and Delta are among the carriers that offer boarding pay
(29:36):
for flight attendance.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Doesn't it seem odd? That's like a key thing in boarding.
People on the plane and flight attendants who are involved
in that weren't getting paid for that. You know, Air
Canada isn't about one hundred and eighty airports. Of course
in Canada.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
The United States, by the way, and abroad, the largest
far and carrier in the United States it is. They
have fifty plus US airports that they have flights leaving from,
and up to four hundred and thirty flights between our
two countries. So there were people that were absolutely stuck. Right,
(30:17):
speaking of being stuck, you do not have to be stuck.
If you're listening to this show and you say to yourself,
what did you just say? I want to hear that again.
What was the amount of that lawsuit? Where was that
shark attack? When is the trilateral meeting? When it comes
to Ukraine, Russia and the United States being involved, We're
(30:40):

Speaker 1 (31:12):
The Extra Sauce has a lot of the highlights.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Your thoughts coming up as we hit our special mailbag segment.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
I'm going to the man Cave.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
I'm going to the Marcave, going to the Marcave. I'm
going to the Marcave.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
We are here in the man Cave. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome.
Of course, talking sports, so there's a lot to talk about.
By the way, preseason action, the Bengals knocked off the
Commanders thirty one to seventeen.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
What were the highlights?
Speaker 2 (31:54):
What do you take away from preseason Joe Burrow throws
a perfect touchdown pass to Charlie Jones in this preseason win.
That would be one of the takeaways. The course, the
main thing is who could possibly make a roster. Like
I said in previous shows, that is kind of on
the cut line. Somebody knew young a draft choice, for example,
(32:17):
that could sneak in there where there's only so many
players that a team can carry, and that's where you
can really find things out.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Or you've got.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Somebody new on the team, some superstar player, and it's
about getting those reps and shaking off the rust a
little bit. Unfortunately because of the hard hits. I mean,
this is the danger of training camp and preseason football
is you get injuries. There's been a lot of injuries
heading in to the NFL season.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
I watched The Kingdom, which, by the way, is so interesting.
The Kingdom was a great series that was on ESPN
and Disney Plus aired it and it just came out
last week and there were six episodes, so the Hubs
and I binged it. It was so well done. It
was so good. What I think is hilarious is The Kingdom.
(33:12):
They had billboards for it in cities like Philadelphia, Buffalo,
which could there be a bigger rivalries. It was kind
of funny, and a couple of other rivalry cities they
had billboards to watch The Kingdom.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
What's up next? That's interesting.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
That's on Netflix is a series a docuseries about the
Dallas Cowboys, And I'm telling you as somebody who flew
with the Cowboys covered the Cowboys, and I've covered in
other ways a lot of NFL teams, but I was
directly doing this day in and day out when I
was in the great state of Texas and in Dallas.
(33:53):
We've had a lot of different players on throughout the years,
even here on the atn that this looks like all
accident too, and really looks like it was just an incredible,
incredible shoot.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Here's a little sneak.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
The role to its championship is never paid smooth.
Speaker 7 (34:14):
It's always paid with peaks in the valley.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
There's a soap opera. Three hundred and sixty five days
a year. Texas just football country.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
The role in Texas same, so God could watch his
favorite team, the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
When I bought the team, I was Darth Vader.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
Dallas fans aren't happy.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
Last year there were one fifteen.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
I said that I don't know anything about running a
football team, and he looked met the eye and he said.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Neither do I. We were gambling my family's whole fortune.
So I had to take risks. And it started with
Jimmy Johnson.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
That's a lot there on that other films.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
And he made practice hail solely.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Game is heavy. We were ready, don't pack. All of
a sudden, there was a runaway train.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Oh maybe.
Speaker 6 (35:17):
Everywhere we went they were icons.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
We played hard and then we played hard. With that success,
you also get disruption. Police officers came to me and
they pulled a gun.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
It right now.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Here. He is that disruptor, That innovator, did not much
of a gamer. You're coming against a popular trend.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
How about that? So it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
I said, we were going to do previews of what's
coming up, So let's do the NFC East. You look
at the defending champs, the Eagles. They finished the twenty
twenty four season, of course with the Super Bowl four
ten to three record.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
They are favored to repeat his division.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Champs, and they have their whole roster pretty much the
key offensive players like Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. They
have a tough schedule ten playoff teams from the previous season.
That's kind of unprecedented NFL history wise, But for a
lot of reasons, my money is on Philadelphia. Looking at
the Washington Commanders, Wow, what a year. They finished twelve
(36:23):
and five and twenty four and they're definitely on the rise.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Jaden Daniels. I love this kid from LSU.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
I followed him all throughout LSU and had a conversation
with him a couple of times in his college career.
And I mean he was even the NFL Offensive Rookie
of the Year, no surprise. And they've beefed up their
roster a little bit. They got a couple of Pro
Bowl players. If I was going to look at anything,
what would be a negative? They were eighteenth in net
(36:55):
yards per play last season, But I still like them
to do well. Dallas Cowboys, as you just heard, because
they're going to have that Netflix thing, which I can't
wait for that seven and ten. Last year they had
some big injuries, Dak Prescott one of them. They've got
a healthier roster this time around.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
They've got.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Some new acquisitions like George Pickens wide receiver. They have
a very tough schedule. So how resilient will the Dallas
Cowboys be? What will they do in the red zone?
What's going to be like for Dak Prescott? The glue
to me is always the quarterback. Anybody can see that
that knows anything about football. So what kind of a
season is Dak Prescott going to have the New York Giants.
(37:37):
I had a question in the mailbag segment in our
last hour about the Giants. They were terrible, terrible last year,
thirteen or thirteen. They wish they were thirteen and something.
They were three and fourteen. So they've got Russell Wilson
as the veteran quarterback. They got a promising quarterback of
the future, Jackson Dart. You know, they got a great
(38:01):
defensive line, but offense, offense is where they struggle. I
don't think they're going to compete for the division title.
They have a crazy hard schedule, but I do believe
they're going to win more than three, maybe six games,
maybe seven. I mean the NFC East. Remember at one
point years ago, I was calling it the NFC Least.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
It's not the least.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
It's going to be super competitive in that division for sure,
And of course I think the Eagles do win it again.
But they got to target on their back and you know,
you don't know about injuries. You got to play the games.
How many games between all these teams in their own division.
We know it's tough all the way loss the board,
(38:45):
but I cannot wait for the season to begin all right,
I want to make sure that I squeeze in some
MLB scores for you, because I always get asked about this.
The Brewers had that fourteen game streak that was ended
on Sunday by the Reds. They bounce back against the Cubs. Boy,
not fun for that doubleheader makeup from June. He's the
(39:05):
first one, seven nothing. The Brewers won that game. Oh,
Cubby fans miserable. And then the second one was postponed
because there was rain, so they're gonna have to make
up two tomorrow, so that'll be on the nineteenth. Tigers
shut out the Astros ten nothing, four home runs part
(39:29):
of the story. The Cardinals, for all you Cardinal fans,
took care of the Marlins, not a surprise eight to
three of the final score there. The good news is, hey,
Saint Louis, you ended the five game losing streak with
that win. Pirates beat the Blue Jays five two. Paul
Skiing's incredible late rally helped their big time. He's fun
(39:55):
to watch pitch. The Phillies picked up their seventy second.
Bryce Harper led the Phillies offense. He is the machine
when he's on twelve seven over the Mariners. The Orioles
knock off the Red Sox six'. Three The White sox
took care of The braves pretty. Handily it was a
(40:17):
homer fest for, them thirteen to. Nine The royals held
on and they knocked off The rangers four to, three
so they picked up their sixty fourth. Win The rockies
got by The dodgers four to. Three it was a
walk off to end a ten game losing streak to The.
Dodgers so that was a nice pickup because they haven't
(40:39):
had a lot to cheer. About for Those colorado. Fans
they're thirty six eighty nine at, home twenty and forty.
Three The reds beat The angels for. One Gavin lux
went yard part of the reason that helped.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
There early in the.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Game guardians beat The diamondbacks three. One they pick up
their sixty fourth. Win The giants by The padres four.
Three three early home runs made the difference for The,
giants so they were able to hang on to that.
One and LIKE i, said it was supposed to be
a double header for The brewers and The, cup so
(41:18):
that means there's gonna be the doubleheader the next. Day,
well if you're into baseball and you have the, time
so you had the day off or. Whatever it's so
fun to go to those day, games especially if you've
got great. Weather but they didn't have good weather because
they had the. Rain but if they have nice weather
and it's a little bit cooler, tomorrow that would be a,
(41:39):
really really fun double HEADER i think to, catch especially
those two teams with.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
So much on the line between. Them all, right that's a,
rap as they.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Say coming up, next a couple of great, authors SO
i think you're gonna, love including my pal And bonnie
who has run a marathon on every single.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
Continent hang with.
