Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kevin Urant was traded to the Houston Rockets. My apologies
on being late. I was running errands and I was
in I was getting my haircut. I won't about to
jump out of the barber seat to be like, oh,
I got to record this video, even though it would
have been wild, would have a fake. But here's here's
the details of the trade. Man, Kevin rn is part
of the Houston Rockets. They get back Jaalen Green, Dylan Brooks,
the number ten pick in this year's draft, and five
second round picks. Some of those second round picks convey
(00:21):
in twenty thirty twenty thirty two, one of them conveys
this year, but it is the very last pick in
this year's draft, so it is officially done. Now. We've
known Kevin Urrantz preferred that's nations. We've known the teams
that were interested. Could they have waited one extra day
to break this news, probably so we could just focus
on Game seven, something historic happening in the NBA right now.
But no, we do get the Kevin Durrant trade, and
(00:41):
I got a lot to talk about. I actually do
like that. I didn't I wasn't able to record the
video immediately because when I first saw this trade break,
as I'm sitting still to get my lineup, I see
Jayalen Green is in it. And my immediate reactions like, Okay,
that's interesting. But because it got Devin Booker and because
he got Bradley build, Jayalen Green probably gets rerided to
an the team. And I'm thinking in my head, who
(01:01):
can those teams be who would be interested in Jalen
Green at this point based on what he just did
in the postseason last year. But then we got a
report from Gambo that says that it should be in
them planning on keeping Jalen Green. So I would have
came to this video talking about different destinations for Jayleen
Green the only destination that matters to Phenix Suns for him.
I'm also happy because, you know, immediate reaction was, wow,
that's it now. Obviously, the Sons had zero leverage, Like
(01:24):
zero leverage. We've all known Kevin Rant wanted out. We
all know that they wanted to trade him away. We
all knew that the Suns wanted to complete the trade
before the draft because they wanted some draft capital winning.
So when you think about them having zero leverage, yeah,
I still thought like, damn, that's that's just not that's
just not a lot, and then shamp Seraania reports. Then
(01:47):
Shampserania reports one of the other trade offers that were
on the table, which was Hami hak Is, Nicola Jovich,
Hayward Heismith and pick twenty. And I'm like, all right, yeah,
used to trade was pretty good. But I can't look
at this trade for the Suns as a won to
one we traded away Kevin Durant because you gotta think
about the six trays that lead it up to the
point where this is. This ends up being a case
(02:08):
with Cam Johnson, with Chris Paul, with Michel Bridges, the
second round picks, in the first round picks they gave
up for it to boil down to Jalen Green, Dylan
Brooks and whoever they draft at ten. I feel bad
the same as a finals team just a few years ago. Man,
that team was lovable in my personal opinion. Now my
favorite player was on the team, but I really enjoyed
watching those teams going at that championship run what they
(02:30):
lost in the finals, but you get what I'm saying,
that runs to end up being in the finals, and
you know, Devin Booker at that point, I think it's
only twenty four years old. It's like, oh, he'll be back.
You get the moment where the Bucks are celebrating the
Devin Booker's on the court like damn, and like, don't
don't worry, Dev You're on twenty four, You'll be back.
And now here he is at what now is he what? Age?
Twenty twenty seven? And he looking around like he is
(02:53):
twenty eight almost twenty nine. Damn, book is about to
be thirty. That's nuts, you see. I just run it
enough for him? Man, do I just hate everything that's
been going on in the Phoenix And I've been team
Devin Booker stays around. But it's so hard if I'm
Devin Booker and in this camp to look at what's
left of a team that I had my most success with.
After I spent the first hold on, hold on, hold
(03:15):
on your one year, two year, three year, four year, five,
I spent the first five years of my career just
an oblivion teams that will winning nineteen games, twenty one games,
twenty four games, and to be at the age of
twenty eight and now we have to go through that again.
I thought that may have been a world before any
trade happened that like the Suns can recruit some ascess.
So you think to yourself, Okay, maybe this's a one
(03:36):
to two year retooling and we'll be back to not
being contenders like they weren't twenty twenty one, but at
least being competent enough to say we're competing for a
playoff spot. I just don't see that as the case anymore,
given what they got back in this trade. I said
on Just Yesterday's podcast that I may be one of
the last Jalen Green believers, but damn, I don't believe
he'douther to be no superstar nothing. But like a lot
of people turned off to Jalen Green based on their
playoff performance, and it's understandable. But I still look at
(03:58):
him as like a twenty three year old guy trying
to figure some things out. But this is one of
his worst scenarios if you ask me, as far as
trying to figure out who he can become as a
player and how does this impact the Devil. But it's
just it's just a lot, man, It's just a lot.
And I wonder if we're ever gonna get like some
of the other teams that were interested, like the Houston Rockets.
Apparently we're interested, Well we're I'm sorry, not Houston Rockets.
(04:19):
The Toronto Raptors were interested figuring out what the hell
that was? What were the sps the Spurs offering? Maybe
it was picked fourteen and just filler like a Harrison
Barnes and Chains, and none of them had the upside
of maybe what Jalen Green form, it's number two overall
pick to be. I feel for Suns fans, though, I
truly truly do thinking about what this team would look like.
(04:44):
I don't know. I got Suns fans hit me up,
like the only reason that they accept this trade because
they got an idea that Bradley Beal is gonna get
rid of hiss no trade clause or ship him to
another team. It's like, even if we are being the
most optimistic side of that thing, you ain't getting nothing back, right,
you know what I mean. It's not like if he says, yeah,
I'll be traded to Chicago for whatever reason. It's not
(05:05):
like you're about to get somebody's like, Okay, now this
team is interesting. There's no there's nothing interesting about this team, right,
I mean it's interesting, but not a positive interesting, you know.
So this is another tale of new owner syndrome and
how that could really derail an organization. I think Matt
Eshbia's intentions were right, trying to compete and trying to
win championships, but the execution was awful, so awful. And
(05:30):
now he continues to hire these these people that were
from his area, the Michigan, Michigan State area, and it's
like just a bunch of potential, yes, ma'am, and just
don't you don't see the light at the end of
the tunnel. And if report came out for whatever reason,
that book was looking to express his options that there
can't be a single Sons fan that would I mean,
it probably will be, but they shouldn't feel some type
(05:51):
of way about it. Like I said, he spent the
first five years of his career in oblivion. Before you know,
they go into the bubble and they win eight games
or eight know whatever, it may be, the trade for
Chris Paul and now they're in the finals. And then
he basically just kept like what two three years, three
years of being a competent NBA team before everything went
crashing again. Golly, I's talk about the Houston rocketside thought,
(06:14):
because boy, this is a treat to be able to
walk out of this without mortgaging any of the suit
and again no disrespect to Jayalen Green, mortgaging any of
the super young, intriguing prospects that they already have on
the roster and walk out with Kevin Durant is amazing.
(06:34):
You know, I did not end up even having to
get with a Cam whitmore and now Cam Wimore team
is probably feeling pretty good because with this trade it
probably opens up more opportunity for him to play with
two wings guard Wings going out and maybe Cam Whitmorgans
and Burn. So they didn't mortgage anything. I mean, yeah,
the tenth overall pick could be valuable and maybe the
Suns hit on that Picca boom like that at the
(06:55):
end of the tunnel for them. But when you consider you
do still have i'm in Jabbari Tari Read and Cam
where the hell was the tenth overall pick guy gonna
fit in? And all of that, this is just nearly
a flaw as straight because even if it don't work,
even for whatever reason, Kevin Rank comes to the Houston
Rockets and ends up being trashed, they end up losing
(07:17):
more games than they went. No, that's not gonna happen.
But they were were a fifty one win team last year.
Let's say they fall back into a playing team, which
again I don't think is happening. Fine, you know what
I'm saying, Just like that, we still got shit, and
we still got I'm in. I think that this team's
next year ceiling, because I think that's a lot of
what people are trying to have the conversation of, Hey,
I think the betting odds just said that the Houston
(07:38):
Rockets jumped up as a number two team in the
Eastern Western Conference, which I guess in the regular season
they were that according to record. But even if everything
goes bad and you still have like i'm in Thompson
and I'm in Thompson's next jump, is gonna be so
critical to match the timelines of a Kevin Durant team
with these dudes. And we just saw I'm and Thompson
(07:59):
look really good in his rookie season, but then looked
like an all defensive player in year number two, and
see some of the other offensive things in the way
he's being utilized as an offensive player. Shift from a
second season now with the added spacing and creation that
is Kevin Durant. I don't know what the hell happens
with I'm and Thompson next, but I guarantee you it's
gonna be something positive. This team was a team that
(08:20):
went to the postseason and they took the Golden State
Warriors to seven. They took the Golden State Warriors to
seven with Jimmy Butler first missing that one game. I
forgot about that, without them having somebody on the perimeter
that you felt really comfortable with, like Freddy gave us
a couple of games that were bangers for fred Vanvlee,
shout out to him, but without them having a go
(08:43):
to score and a potential go to closer, they took
the Warriors to seven. But that is nuts. And now
they're adding in a Kevin Durant. I just I love
it for them because again, if it does not work,
it's fine. It's fine because not only do you hold
your own future, you still hold the Phoenix suns is future.
(09:05):
The Sons didn't get back their picks in It's trade
twenty twenty seven for the Sons is still in Yo,
and you'll treasure trove so again, Raphael Stone has been
doing an amazing job over there in Houston, and I'm
excited to see what happens next. It feels weird to
see Kevin Urrant on another team. To see the clips
of them announcing the trade where he was on stage,
(09:27):
it's pretty fun. He just did an interview with Kate
Kate Adams where he said he knew that the trade
was about to happen, but it was fun that it
happened on stage. Wow, what a trade. What a trade.
I think that even though they gave up Dylan Brooks,
they still will have the defensive infrastructure to stay great.
And Kevin Urant gave us flashes of really good defense
last season, specifically in the beginning of the season, and
(09:48):
then it just wavered as the season went on. But
he's also thirty seven years old, so I don't expect
him to be the protective deterrent that maybe he was
two years ago. But because they do have a man,
and they will still have a combination of Tarre and
Jabbari and so on and so forth, I don't expect
this team defensively to drop off too much. I mean, yeah,
they sacrifice some of that, but think about the offensive
(10:09):
upside that Kevin Rant is really bringing to the team.
And I just had to quickly go through with this
because I was like, I remember, you know some things
about Kevin Durant last season. I'm just looking at overall
game log and I'm just sitting here counting they were
three and seventeen when he didn't play last season. And
that's a huge one. Right, that's a huge one. Can
we get Kevin Durant to play more? Right, that's a
(10:29):
big question. Would he be able to stay healthy for
a postseason run? But some of these stretches are really
bad And then you also count them up. They were
thirty three and twenty nine with him last season, So
obviously you know, Kevin ren is still a really good player.
Heah the player that he was in twenty twelve. But
who the hell is right still averages of twenty six,
six fifty forty eighty four. That's a bad man. That's
(10:53):
a bad bad man, and that bad man is now
going to the Houston Rocket. So really excited about how
creative they could get offensively with ke around on the
roster now as like a guy that couldn't be a
decoy and also be like just give me the ball
to let me rock out. I feel like they didn't
really have that too much. Jalen Green did provide a
good amount of like rimp pressure, especially later on throughout
the season. Kevin Wrant doesn't really do that as much.
(11:14):
He still drives a ton, but he is more drive
to pull ups instead of drive to get to the
paint and get two feet in. We'll see if that
maybe shifts. But he also, again is thirty seven years old.
I can't ask him to go out there in attempt
seven free throws a game or thirteen free throws a
game or something. What do you average last year from
the line, he shot six? He shot six. Last year
he shot six. That's fair. That's fair for the old man.
(11:35):
I mean his third year he shot ten and ninety percent.
Oh my god, bro, hey man. I still appreciate Kevin
Rant and how great he is, even if the team
has been trash. He has. He's played thirty five games,
fifty five games, forty seven games, seventy five games last year,
and then sixty two games. So you just keep your
fingers crossed that you could get a really healthy season.
(11:56):
But again, there's no downside, you know, like usually if
you like Desmond Baine trade, even though I really like
it for the Orlando Magic, the downside is he doesn't
help them get over the hump. And now you just
mortgage five years or for draft picks. You didn't do that.
You didn't do that in this trade, doll. I love
for when the team is the reciprocate, the reciprocant of
(12:18):
a star player with no value, because more likely than
not that players too really good. Right, Kevin Urrant didn't
have any value, not because he's bad, but because there's
no leverage from the opposing team. If Kevin Durant was
they say, surprise trade candidate. Let's say the Houston the
Suns just won fifty games and for whatever reason, he's
low key available. I promise you the trade package will
(12:40):
be higher. But like, if we're the Rockets and we're
the Spurs and we're Miami, why are we competing against
each other to get the guy that we know has
to be traded anyway? Really excited about what Kevin our
recould do. Jalen Green, starting with Devin Booker, they were
already just such a poor defensive team. Man, they were
(13:03):
twenty eighth in defense last year. Still don't know who
their center is gonna be next year. Hell, we don't
know any of their wings. They really are just a
team of guard play guard play, and I oh, I
just remember the Marshawn Brooks things. Remember that Marshawn Brooks
in twenty seventeen or twenty eighteen got traded but they
(13:23):
thought it was Dylan Brooks. Now they finally get Deler Brooks.
So that's a dub I guess.
