I like to give my guests the opportunity to introduce themselves,
So I'll start with the lady first. Tell the people
who you are and what you do. Welcome, Welcome, welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well, Hello, Hello, Hello, Kiki and the gang. Thank you
for having me. My name is Joanne Black, poet Stephen.
I'm from Brooklyn, New York. You know how we do
over here. I've been writing poetry for like over twenty
something years right now, I don't want to tell my age,
you know, even though black don't crack.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
But uh, poetry.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Is just my life. It's my lifestyle. It's what I do.
It's in my veins, and it's going to continue to
rob with me until this body get cold.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Hey, I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Well, thank you for kicking it with me today. Thank
you absolutely all right, We got the fella all right.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
My name is j w Addaburry, John Washington in Addterbury.
I'm originally from Halem and I'm down here at the
Shore Cape, mangew Jersey, forty five minutes from Lake City.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
I've been doing this poetry thing for a hot minute
since my New York days, you.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
So just to give a timestamp, I'm fifty three years old,
you know what I mean. So I've been doing poetry,
vomit and all that since fifteen years old.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
So I've been writing.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I got a nice collection of poetry books, so you know,
I love this poetry thing.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
I'm the pin from within that's deep skin, you know
what I mean. So yeah, find yourself a friend, and
we all can begin.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
I love it, y'all. Get ready for a great show.
The energy is here. We had the energy before the
camera started rolling, so you are in for a treat.
Before we get into all things poetry, I would like
to ask the question, because we talk about life, love
and all that other shit, what is one lesson that
(02:59):
you can say that life has taught you when it
comes to poetry.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Free yourself?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Oh I like that, Yes, And I say free yourself
because a lot of times we are so caught up
with thoughts, memories, traumas, and we stick with that and
we keep that inside. Well, when you start writing and
you release, you're a whole new different person by the
time all those words.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Hit that paper.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I love that. Free yourself, that's that's bars.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
And what about you, sir?
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:35):
My thing is let your mind and wine, so you
could sit back and recline.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
And just let the sun shine. You know what I'm saying.
In outwit you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
It's so good, And like Joyne said, just release yourself,
you know what I mean, Let all your thoughts hit
the paper and just be right there with it, in
and out, in and out, just like motion motion in
the ocean. You know what I'm saying, get yourself post worth.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Listen, I see somebody love words. I fell in love
with words at the age of three when my aunt
taught me how to read, and she would let us
go to the library pick out books that was appealing
to us. She didn't force anything on us, and I
just love words. And when I was introduced to poetry
in the third grade by my third grade teacher, shout
(04:24):
out to Miss Amma Williams, I will always love her
for that. I've just been in love with the flow.
Like you said, the elve and the flow. You get
the mix and match different textures, different tones, and just
are able to let your mind take hold of that
paper and then just express yourself. And I've always found
that my words helped inspire other people. And when I
(04:46):
was going through my darkest time, I was able to
go back to those notebooks that I had to actually
help myself get out of that darkness. So when it
comes to life, how has poetry been an impactful element
for you?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I know it's definitely been impactful for me, especially when
I have complete strangers come up to me and tell
me how they resonated with my words in the book
or you know, something that may have happened to them,
and they're like, you know, reading your book really showed
me a different way, a different element in life. And
that speaks volume for me because it's sometimes you know,
(05:23):
we write, Yes, we write for our sake, but we
also write for others. You know, we writing to change
the world, at least I know I am, you know,
because we're especially these days, we're caught up in a
world where so many people are walking around blind and
sometimes we need to read and see what's really going on.
They always say, you keep knowledge in the book, and
(05:45):
a lot of people won't read it, you know what
I mean. But at this rate, yeah, I write to inspire,
I write to elevate, and I write to educate, you know.
And like I said, I'm gonna just keep writing, writing
until I turn cold, because poetry to me, is bigger
than life.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Oh I love that, That's right.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
How has poetry been impactful in your life?
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Well, poetry, it came at the right time.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
It resonated because I started writing again and my daughter
introduced me to just just going out.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
There and just letting it live, let it breathe.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Especially after the divorce, you know what I mean, in
twenty sixteen. So you know, I just started just right
right watching everything around. It's like when the hermit goes
out there and he got the lantern and he's just
moving around, just observing the world.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
So that's what I'm taking in.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
I'm looking at everything out there, hearing conversations. My mom
started tworking and going back and forth, and I just
start writing, might not even be my personal experience, but
it might just be what I've seen, observe and heard,
you know what I mean. So and then when people
read it while I'm sharing on social media, they was like, yo,
(07:07):
you're writing, Like where you came with that from? And
I was like, just from what I see in the
world and on so personal experiences, I mean. So I
enjoyed sharing with everybody out there. You know, everything for everybody,
but everybody ain't for everybody, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
So, so, you.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Know, but I enjoy this thing, you know what I mean.
It's like it's like a Love Jones moment. You know,
I feel like I'm Darius all right, all right, you know,
look morning, evening, you know, afternoon, midnight, you know what
I mean, Everything with all four seasons, baby, all four seasons.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
I love that. I love that you embraced it and
a lot of us. I know, I'm forty seven, and
I allow my children to teach me about different phases
of life that they go through. A lot of people,
especially our parents age, were probably closed off to being
taught something new. So I try to get on my
mom all the time about learning something new. You're still here,
so you should still be learning every day, something every day.
(08:11):
So the fact that you allowed your daughter to pour
pour into you in that way to help elevate your
poeted game, that's amazing.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Yeah, she's a poet, Okay, I mean she learned from
a dad.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yes, my daughter is a poet, and she's an artist.
And this is all of our artwork, you guys see.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
Okay, that's that's what's up.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yes, something might get a poet as well.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Nice, I'm gonna see. I'm gonna say, sixteen year old
got some bars. I'm gonna have to see what he
working with, because I know it's in him. He's into
more singing and stuff like that. But art is definitely
in this household for sure.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Right.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, my daughter's thirty three and when I so she
besides poetry, well she hasn't done a long time.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
She does urban planning out there in Florida.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Nice, So she's an activist and when that so she's
out there court cases and stuff.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Like we the man all rights. Who you think you are?
We know our rights?
Speaker 1 (09:04):
And lowis Yes, absolutely to her. Salute to her though,
because it takes a lot to put yourself out there
to be an activist, because we know the world that
we live in. Yes, I would keep her lifted in
prayer because we don't want any retaliation or anything like
that to happen. But yeah, I know that she is
probably walking in her purpose, something that got placed in her.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
Yeah, I always do it mine.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
I told her about only yok though, I mean she's
born down in Kate me though, you know, I mean,
but I always told her stories growing.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Up, like yo, I remember this, I remember that. You
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
And I told her one of my teachers, poetry teachers,
was on Abbio done from the.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Last poets, Okay, nice, So I.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Always appreciate what he taught and brought to the table
when I was in high school.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
I mean so right, yes.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
So before we get into all that other ship. Let's talk.
Let's switch gears and talk about you guys, because I
know you have individual projects and stuff like that. Poor
you know, books and things like that, so join go
ahead and tell the people about your books, like plug
your work. Let them know how dope you are.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Thank you well.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
My earlier work is on lulu dot com. The first
book I ever came out with was called Through My
Eyes by Joanne Stephen. And the second book I wrote
was The Insights of Black Poet that is also on.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Lulu dot com.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
This third one right here, which I have with me,
is called let Me Lick Your Mind, and this is
on Amazon, and trust me, your mind will be licked.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Okay, I couple all categories. You know.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I don't hesitate, I don't discriminate everything is being talked
about in this book. I do have future projects. I
am revamping this book, you know, for a cleaner version,
and I'm working on another poetry book, and somewhere down
the line, I may also work their children's book.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
So I'm very happy about that.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
That's amazing, because hell, did you come up with let
Me Lick Your Mind? Okay?
Speaker 2 (11:11):
You know what funny story I got to give a
shout out to Lloyd Blackstone.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Leach shot out the Lord.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Yes, I am a partner in crime.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
I was going over some names though with the book,
and he just happened to say, what about let me
lick your mind?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
And I was like, ooh, I.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Like that, Yeah, yeah, I like that, And you know
what he said it I ran with it.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
You know, I can't even take credit for the name.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
I got it from him, and I'm so happy he
laid it out to me because it draws a lot
of attention.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
It really does, because he read like a snippet from
it a couple of weeks ago on his TikTok and
I was like, I gotta get this book. So I
would definitely be purchasing the book, and I thank you.
I'm all about supporting, especially my people, man, And this
is the whole premise of having the platform. I have
to give a voice and our and our stories need
(12:04):
to be shared for for for future generations, because once
it's out there is out there.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Absolutely people don't.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Know that we exist. They don't know that we need
to you know, the support from them, So that is
that's that's all about, Kiki. But I love that. I
love Levy, fix your mind. It is on Amazon, Guys,
and the nation about the book would be in the
show notes, So no excuses. Go and support black poet.
(12:31):
She is an awesome, awesome, awesome poet. Word smith. I
should say, yes, So we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna
ask her to read something in a little bit. But
let's talk about your products. Uh, j W go ahead
and tell the people about what you got going on.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Oh man, it's I've been I've been doing this poetry
thing through many names, you know, in the beginning, which
the first book was by Joel Harris of their five
book the first one was Threw My Eyes from the Sky.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
The second one was threw My Eyes from the scar
Part two in God's Hands.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
Then the next one was like Marvelous Misses Me.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
And then I went through after that phase and was
the King Canterbury phase those books, and then I went
under Jeel Washington at Abury.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
You know.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Yeah, everything was a metamorphosis, and I mean like it's
just into that on and this one.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
King Cadbury Inc. This was what started a whole different wave.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
You know, my cousin did to cover my little cousin
tried to show the support with them. And when I so,
after I start journeying through there and I started the
new wave when I so this is a book King
Canterbury Inc.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
Part three, Fruitioning.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Oh I love that.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
So I just started getting busy into it. And when
I like, I can't, I'm like a dope fiend. And
when I need that fix, you know what I mean
that you just start itching and you're like, Okay, let
me what else can I come like? And then I
just start flowing and going and what not. And I
have a couple of projects on the way. You know
this two thousand and twenty five is gonna be crazy,
(14:11):
working on four projects right now.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
And you know I'm gonna be calling you up soon.
And I yo for I feel like I said, I
feel like a fiend. I can't stop.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
I mean every year I say the same thing, I'm
not writing no more, feel like you know what I'm saying,
this poetry thing, like I'm done, you know what I mean.
Then all of a sudden, and then then I got
a whole archive. Then I'm like, what am I gonna do?
I might as well put some books out, Like I'm
just like.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
Not to say it like that, but I'm just saying
I'll be like, you know.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
What, my daughter be like, Damn, why you're gonna stop?
You might as well keep going. I'm like, because I
feel like when you have enough well to me, I'm
just like, okay, like.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
What else can I write about?
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Then there's always something I work great yeardship, So my
mom is always as soon as I hear music, I
just start.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
It's like you activated.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
It could be jazz, it could be water dripping, it
could be water running, and I'm just like.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
I just start writing. I'm like, you got a.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Problems, A great problem to have.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
I got. I need poetry, a taste poetry.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Any well, guess what, You'll see a lot of familiar
faces in that group because I jump out of my
sleep and start writing.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Listen my phone. I have a lot from my notes
on my phone. I have so much stuff, man, Listen.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Yeah, that's how I write. I write my phone when
walking the blue, I type something up or whatever. But
I'm always on the moves. They'll be like, oh, he texting. No,
I'm not texting them right.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
Right, focused don't.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
We're waiting on your poetry book to list inspired inspiring.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Me, give us what we need.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
She got the lyrics we need to say him.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
I think that that's gonna be my challenge for myself.
Before the end of the year, I will put out
my first poetry book.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
I'll keep pushing.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
If you need encouragement, I'll be right there to push
you along the way.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
You know what, though, I'm a very disciplined person, and
when I say I'm a Capricorn, as we do. So
once I put my mind to it, I just have
to figure out what I want the theme of it
to be about, because I don't need to just be
putting stuff in there just all over the place, not
like that. But uh, I'm definitely. I'm definitely. I got time.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
I got email you every week.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Listen. Look, I appreciate that accountability. That's what we need.
We need people that's gonna just pour into us and
make sure that we are staying aligned to our purpose.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Yes, love that.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
So y'all want to y'all want to spit something for
for the audience. Y'all want to do something freestyle or
let's do that, Let's do that real quick style. I'm
give y'all the topic and we're gonna talk about all
that other ship.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Fifty two year old right here may not remember her lines,
but try, I'll try.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Let me.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Let me tell you and I and I picked all
that other ship because it's very broad and you can
talk about whatever. I mean. I could throw out a
word or something if you want to do it that way.
But I think all that other ship is befitting because
right now we are experiencing all that other ship when
it comes to life. Yeah, yeah, So anybody want to
(17:36):
go first?
Speaker 3 (17:38):
You know what, I'll let the brother go first.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Can I get like a phrase or something, or like,
I just try to channel something. I have a freestyle
of a long time. But I'm gonna go there though
never a pardon me. I mean, just give me something
like so I could just you know.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Breathe on it.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Okay, So we'll talk about music.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
I love music.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
My favorite artist is Prince and his music has gotten
me through very very pivotal moments in my life, ups
and downs. So music, let's do music.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
Okay, Let the music begin.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
As my mind start to spend all these thoughts captured,
they're coming from out the wind. Is there a message
really to sind or am I just in between life circumstances.
Let's have a choice of the words that we put
inside the lines that define the pat graphs. That what
you see and is what you saw. This is something
(18:41):
unusual that you never saw before. But here, let me
go outside the universe into a different solar system so
I can sit right back down into Earth and be
in my kitchen. Oh my god, it seemed different. This
here is on the instant. This is a freestyle, not
really worthwhile, but I'm saying versatile. I could do it
right now, I could do it real later. At the
(19:02):
same time, you might owe me a favor. Why don't
you just contact your neighbor and we could see if
I Philip Beet, like I said, if I had a
pager like back inside the eighties or was it really
the nineties? But right now I'm gonna leave all that
stupid as shit behind me as into the future, and
I know what to do with her. I'm gonna call
up Mother Nature and signal out to for the time.
(19:24):
And that's that piece.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Nice n yes, oh good.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Kind of rusty and dusty.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
But you know, listen, I can't tell it.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Am I still going along the music trip? If you like, Hey,
the music, The music that just hits my veins, takes
away all my pains, you see from the struggles in
the strains. That music. You know you like it? That
(19:59):
music be hitting me like determinator. Have my body shaken
just like a vibrator?
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Oops? Did I just say that? You know you like
that music?
Speaker 2 (20:08):
That music that comes with the E string, the G
string and that d yes. Stick it to me. I
love it to flow naturally. Oh my god, that music
is getting to me. You see that music. It's detrimental,
but it's always in my mental You don't.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
Know that, do you?
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Or maybe you should find out hit me with that
music one more time. See what happens when I dropped
this line. Yeah, this is your black poet every time
for the music.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
You got listen. I'm over here blessing. I love it.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Yes see, that's what I'm talking about, like for real, y'all.
Y'all really inspired me because I don't like to share
my portry with people. I love you do. I'm getting
I'm getting out of that shell. I'm walking into a
season in my life where it's like no regrets and
no excuses.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
And nothing before its time. So maybe it wasn't time
for you to do it before, but it's your time.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Out, absolutely, and I agree. I received that and I
agree with that.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
Do you hear that voice? You don't hear that voice?
Are you not? Are you not entertained?
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Because I'm like which voice? Because I heard a lot
of them.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
As a right, Are you not entertained?
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Yes, I definitely hear the voice that saying that it's time.
I mean, my I just found out and I did
not notice although I knew he was nosy back then.
My little brother he told me the other night. He
just text me out of the blue. He said, I'm
so proud of you. You are my inspiration. And I
was like oh, and I was like, I've never known it.
He was like, yes, the sneak and reach of poetry
(21:57):
back in the day, and now he has released his
third poetry book. That so shout out to my little brother, Trevy.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
I love you so much. Yeah, Tray.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
So did you guys want to share anything from some
of your your work, your books? I know I need
to hear something from let me lick your mind for real.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Yes, I definitely have a few.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
I'm trying to think what mood should I give it
to your end, you know, because there's a lot to
choose from.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
I'm gonna start out with this.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
This is the first one, and and if we have time,
we could dig into something else. This is the one
on the very first pages called the signs you put
on the spectacles.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Go ahead. I love it.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
He had a winning smile and brought me diamonds and pearls.
I thought I was the happiest woman on top of
the world. He said, I did not need to work.
I could just stay home, keep myself beautiful and my
hair well combed to any woman. You think I had
missed the right until my world came crashing down in
just one night. Something big was happening after something so small.
(23:10):
He called me out of my name before slamming me
to a wall. I thought, what did I do? I
felt so ashamed. I tried to ask him what did
I do wrong? But I was the one to be blamed.
I tried to ask him what did I do wrong?
But no words can be heard like an instrumental song.
Another hit as anger feels his face. He was in
a bad mood and I was in his space. The
(23:33):
gentleman now turned a brutal beast. To say I was
scared was actually the least. It only got worse as
time went by, with swelling so bad they closed my
eyes and I apologie your flowers after every episode. But
the beatings continued to touch every limp node until one
day I fled for my life. As today I write
(23:54):
at someone's wife who literally helped me, as I hope
to help others. So listen to me clearly, my sisters
and brothers, when things go left, even when you think
things are fine, go with your gut feelings and pay
attention to the signs.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Wow, Yes, absolutely, I would definitely be ordering that book
before this week is out. Thanks absolutely. Like I have,
I have a You know how people get addicted to
like shoes and all of that, I have addiction to
books and journals. Yeah a problem, yes, but I thank
(24:40):
you for sharing me. Before we before we hear your poetry,
I just want to ask the question about all that
other ship, like how has poetry helped you get through
all that other ship in your life?
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Poetry for me was always a release.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
You know, my dad, you know, God bless he's still alive,
was very strict, so I couldn't go anywhere.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
So for me, it was a pastime.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
You know.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
I sat in the house, I wrote, and I drew.
So I'm also an artist. I love art and I
love poetry. And you know, as you get older and
you start seeing so many different things come to you,
Like Joel stated earlier, sometimes it's not from personal experiences only,
it's from what we see in life. It's from friends,
(25:26):
it's from family, and you just incorporated into your work.
And it definitely releases.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Me when I write. I feel a calm When I write.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
I could be mad at something, but the moment my
pen hits the paper, I'm in another world. It's like
you can't talk to me. I'm just flowing and I
feel like ease. So it definitely helps me to remain
calm because I'm easily I used to be easily hot headed.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
What is that?
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Okay? You know, but as we grow in life and
we have growth, we learn how to channel things differently.
So for me, my channel will always be poetry.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
I love it. I love it. Listen. Shout out to
Dad for being strict though, because who knows what you'd
have been getting into. It wouldn't have been perfect, I'm
telling you.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
And to this day, he's still strict and I'm fifty
two years old.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
But what I respect it.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
I respect it because, you know, and I cherish it
because many people say, you know, cherish your parents because
you don't know how long you're going to have them,
and I'm blessed to say that I still have both.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
You know.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
It's sometimes it's trying because you're like, look here, now,
I'm grown with two kids.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
That's still grown. But they don't always see you that way.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
But he's gonna always beat a little baby that today.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Yes, and I'm the last one too, out of four,
so I'm.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
All always the baby.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Yeah, But it's okay because a lot of his teachings
really saved me out here, you know, in this and
it's not even as bad as it is now, but
growing up, you know, he taught me some things were
always kept me level headed. You know, I'm not like
the average girl who gets scared of a little thing.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
You know.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
I let things, I think things through before I act right,
you know.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
And I appreciate that greatly.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
You know, those teachings, those back in the day's teachings
do help, and that's what a lot of these kids
are missing today.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
They don't have that, thanks facts.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Yeah, well, poetry became an outlet for me.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Maybe I'll say, like maybe I lost my father when
I was in eighth grade junior high school.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
You know, he passed away at the age of thirty two.
I was thirteen.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
So after when I got in high school, I still
was trying to just gain acceptance.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
Of like losing my dad, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
So I be on the terrace and my projects with
my own CLAWD table the radio, you know what I'm saying,
thinking I could write like some of the rappers, like
Ll and all of them. So but it was a
release for me when I you know what I'm saying.
So then I got in that window, you know, being
out on the projects and everything like that. And then
(28:20):
it became something else after my mother passed away, and
you know, then I had moved down to South Jersey.
I was twenty one. She passed away at age thirty nine.
So me living through life and just journeying out there,
writing and everything like that. You feel like you your
own parent now, even though Granny was around and stuff
(28:40):
like that. But I've always been a rebel, you know
what I mean. So that's one thing I got for
my mother about being a rebel. You you ain't said,
you ain't mad, you just existen. Yeah, it's like the
sun in the summertime. You just out there, you know
what I mean. So it has helped me a lot,
you know what I mean. So these are things that
I taught my daughter. I taught my son. You know,
(29:01):
they two years apart. So you know he can write
too and rong, but you know it just don't truths too.
But he's a Sagittarius. My daughter, my daughter is an arians.
So you know, watch being in between with them too.
It's like that that fire fire.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
I'm like, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Be quiet, I'm trying to write something right now, you
know what I mean. Y'all don't understand. And grandparents are
still around, you wouldn't be acting like this. But then
I just opened up and be like, just look, I'm
not gonna tell you all again. I ain't gonna be
yelling at y'all, yo. But you know, just having that
energy within that entity, it just over the years is
just had me, you know, keep going and going and flowing.
(29:44):
And I'm glad to become who I am today, you
know what I mean, Like, you.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
Know a cool a cool ass poet.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
You know what I mean, I will say fly you
know what, man, I ain't ergant a cocky like that,
but I can hang with some of the best of them,
know you know.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
What I mean, like to like pop your column.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Man, you know I'm cool, you know, just observe it.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
So you know, we just be like playing until it's
time to jump on the stage. But come on, come, Onyan.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Here, I come. I'm about to shut it down.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Yeah, but you know I get inspired by others too,
like one of the people and poets that I might.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
You know what I'm saying, I'm like, whoa.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
It's called like step your game up and not competition wise,
just like yo, you got something there.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Yeah, he is being modest, Jersey poets.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
This man wrote thirty books. He is being modest to say, Okay,
I know he is.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Yeah, but I'm just saying, you know, I just appreciate others,
and I think that's what keeps me humble and then
control of my feelings and emotions and not be like
some of these other people out here, you know what
I mean. Like, so when you have admiration for other
poets and stuff like that, it keeps you leveled and
balanced and here you know what I mean that you
like yo?
Speaker 5 (31:10):
You know what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
We hit a try because I've seen some people out
there and they just they feel like this.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
Can I curse?
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Ye?
Speaker 5 (31:20):
Can I be my Can I? Can I be my
New York self? Look? We feeling like they ship, and
I'll be like, that's a'll be something. Ain't nothing to
go bragging home to my friends about. Like you act
like you the ship but in your own world it's cool.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
I'm from a parallel universe and an alternative one. Shit
ain't all that good, son? You know what I'm saying,
you might preach that ship And you know the one
thing I hate a cocky, arrogant person that just feels
like they touchable. I'm saying myself, Nigga, I write some
shit to spin your ass around and shit and send
(32:05):
you so with you know, I'm like Ricky say Rabbit.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Back in the day.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
Uh yeah, I mean turn you into deputy dupalongs No.
But real think.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Though, I think that a lot of people they make,
they get confidence and cockiness and arrogance all mixed up.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Yes, yes, yes you can know.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
That you have talent, but don't make it seem like
your talent is so for above everybody else's that nobody
exists with talent but yourself agreed.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
That's why I said.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
The humbleness Uh huh, that'll take you a lot of places.
I've learned that from a couple of poets from years ago,
you know what I mean. So I've always kept that
in mind, right, and I've always been cool with motivation speakers.
So that's why I was able to just humble myself
and be, like he said, Yo, just check the parameter's
kid and you'll see what's up. And I did, and
that's how I evolved better over the years and what
(33:01):
I was like.
Speaker 5 (33:01):
And I still talk to the dude today. You know
what I'm saying. One of my brethren is from Brooklyn.
When I you know what I'm saying, I'm just.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Like, now I know what he's talking about me, so yeah,
so yeah, But like I said, I'm here today.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
But I got a poem right now called Fruits of Love.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Like that too.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
I like it too, but doesn't make sense. I'm just
messing up, all right, all right here it is Fruits
of Love fell in love with loving. All that I
know is it about or could it be a lie
disguised behind my eyes? Doesn't matter. I'll take a chance
(33:44):
and dance a little.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
Bit when I'm into just to remember I have options
to exit, never long winded or having fatigue of her
with me. The astronomical energy is beyond us human beings.
The earth taught me well though I lost my father's time,
she told.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Me fly away on my own.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Recognize the signs, stay close to God who God write
ways of passage. Don't ever become ecstatic or feel you
got to have it, wait for it come, be careful
whenever it comes. Sometimes adulthood can be fun, but don't
stay forever young. The experience can be serious disappointment. Have
(34:27):
you delirious and like we get real curious, ending up
with nothing equivalent yet, Search through the garden, don't step
outside of margins. Pick through the bunch one by one,
watch out for hidden's that's rotten. Many sides can hide
intolerable points of what is starting. Maybe I'll go into
a big space apartment, search in the market and that's
(34:50):
the piece.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
M dang, that's deep.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
Thank you, my goodness.
Speaker 1 (34:58):

Speaker 1 (35:17):
And it's all about the energy. And then y'all we
love poetry and words, so can't get no better than that.
So tell the listeners how they can connect with you
where y'all hang out at on social media and things
like that. Plug the books again, let them know where

lead with our listeners today.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Yes, follow your dreams, no matter how long it takes.
Follow your dreams. If you want to write, do it.
If you want to sink, do it. If you want
to paint, do it. But whatever gift that God has
given to you, don't die with it.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
Oh shay shave.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Yes, yes, don't die with like that's that's wow. Yeah,
I felt that in my spirit.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Okay, Well I say is never be afraid to put
your pen down. Never be afraid to express yourself. You know,
there's no such thing as a whack poet. There's no
such thing as poor expression because we come from the heart.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
We have these emotions and feelings that we need to
exercise and get out of your system. And that's the
main thing, you know what I'm saying. Start from beginning,
just start putting journalinge, just start putting them them words
and every thin' don't have to round me, but just
write it out.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
SECTA. So how you speak it out. You know what
I mean. So let that be your love your love cycle,
you know what I'm saying. Let it flourish through your mom,
buddy and soul.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Absolutely absolutely, you guys are amazing. For real, You guys
are amazing again. Thank you so much for coming to
Kicking with Me today.

your gifts to make room for you because they're there
for a reason and if you don't tap into those gifts,
you will lose those gifts. And whether it's writing or
doing whatever, you are enough. It is your gift. Stop
(39:45):
letting people get in your ear and tell you that
you are not enough, because that is a lie. So
with that being said, next time, purple hugs later. Bye,
Keep you at w A cod M.
