Speaker 1 (00:00):
You've got the Krekman and Lyndahl podcast. Listen live every
weekday from ten am to noon on Altitude Sports Radio
ninety two to five and on the Altitude Sports Radio app.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
All right, it is Kreikman and lindahll uh oh not
I ohe for us, I'll owe for someone else at
Frankly's low key good news for the Broncos, although you
don't want to celebrate anybody's injuries because everybody's susceptible to it.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Anyway, Nick Krekman will be back next week.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I'm Andy Lyndall, Marcus Washington sitting in with me here
the rest of the time. So this is some of
the big news because again as we talk about things
as we get towards the rest of the regular season
or the start of the regular season, we're gonna break
down what is going on inside the division. And the
division has already sustained a major injury in Rashaan Slater,
(00:52):
the tackle for the Chargers. Now, he went down without
contact today, so you knew it was bad. But the
Chargers are reported that Rashaun Slaters sustained a torn pateller
tendon in today's practice and will undergo surgery to fix that.
So that's rough. Now the patella and I've got everybody
(01:13):
tweeting it once and bad Wi Fi and the whole thing.
Let's see, he will miss the twenty twenty five season,
is going to be placed on injured reserves.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
So that's a tough deal for them.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
So never want anybody to be injured. Man, that's that's
a tough deal.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
No, you don't, now, you know the Broncos. Maybe that
makes the division whatever more attainable.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
I think we got a lot of audio to get
to today, a lot of stuff being said. But again,
you don't want to see great players go down. It's
not good for the game. Frankly, I'm sure the Broncos
will tell you we'd rather take guys good on good,
that's right. And Rashaun Slayers just one of those great attackles.
Another reason why you don't root for it is everybody
in this league is one play away from the same
thing happening to your guy, So that's all it takes.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
It's terrible news out of Chargers camp for them.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
But again, I guess if it's gonna happen, you'd rather
it happened at the beginning and no games being played,
and I guess you got time to coach up the
next man up.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
So yeah, you're only as good as your backup. To
what I always say, you're only good at your second string.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, although, gosh, if you ever a torn pateeller, I
guess I saw the video of it, and when he
went down I thought that might be the Achilles because
again there was no contact, so he just was doing
his normal setback and then boom.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
You know, it just was he on grass on grass.
So just get that cleak caught in the ground the
wrong way and twist it. You know, it's all it takes.
It's all it takes. Man, all right, you guys had.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
An interesting comment. I want to play something. This is
something Mark Springer had earlier in the week on the
High five. It might even been yesterday. It's been a
wild week. So Aaron Rodgers, you know, new to Pittsburgh,
trying to do his thing, trying to figure out what
he's gonna do, He's gonna play or not. We all
know he didn't want to play with the Jets, and
that kind of became a little bit of an issue
and was even featured on a hard knock, Should he play?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Should he not play? But he broke down I think.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Reasoning for why not to maybe play in the first game,
if the preseason at all. I wanted you to hear
this and tell me if you agree with his assessment
as to why maybe he doesn't want to play in
the first game.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Preseason football is not necessarily real football because the defenses
just don't do a whole lot and the offenses don't either.
So you go out there with a very limited playbook
against the defenses playing one eye zone, one high man,
or two I zone, and there's not much pressure. There's
oftentimes communication between the coaches about hey, we're not going
to pressure this week, or hey we need to see
(03:37):
a little bit of pressure. It's really about the operation.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
All right.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
What do you make of that? Is he telling any lies?
Speaker 4 (03:42):
He is? He tells no lies. That's exactly how it goes.
There's exactly what he said, one high one high man,
two high man, no pressure at least, no blitzes, or
they'll say, hey, we're gonna we're gonna throw in two blitzes.
They won't tell you what it is. But so his
assessment of preseason football is not incorrect. But football is
(04:05):
still football. You still got to hit, you still gotta run,
you still got to catch and throw. You still got
to beat the man across from you in his mind.
I mean, what is he like sixty seventy now they
need to Yeah, I don't know, he's around four and yeah, yeah,
he's just here too long. It's time for him to go.
That's just my assessment. But listen, he's a vet. I
(04:27):
understand why he would not go out and play at
this point. But if you are a first year, second
year quarterback guy, you still need those reps. You still
got to hit, catch and throw.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, he's forty one, so forty one a little closer
to that seventy than he would like, but you know
what I mean. Okay, So with the Broncos then we
talked about it. You do want to go out there.
You want to see some clean drives. If the starters
are out there, you want to get it going. But again,
what do you what are you working on against that
basic execution?
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Execution? Can you for the lineman right? Are you pass
setting properly for the d line? Are you using your hands?
You know, it's it's all about executing. Even the simplest things, right,
So you can say what Aaron Rodgers said, football is
not football because you're not seeing all these schemes. It's
blah blah blah blah blah. It doesn't matter. As a
(05:17):
coach and a former player, it would all I look
at it like this. If I can beat you with
my base defense, why do I need to do anything
else exotic?
Speaker 6 (05:27):
Right?
Speaker 4 (05:28):
So teams are out there evaluating players and they're going, hey,
if this guy can play based defense for me and
he can get it done, then the extra is the extra,
you know what I mean. So you got to do it, man,
you know that's just how it is.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
What would you if you were if Sean Payton came
to you, says Marcus, you know, yes, I'm in yeah, yeah,
I'm in a little bit of a funk. What would
you like to see me work on to improve last
year's offense? What would you be trying to get them
to work on first, to maybe add a layer to
what we saw a year ago?
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Less holding by one of the well said tackles. I'm
not gonna call him, but I'd say I'd say run game,
same thing I said earlier. Man, you've got to get
the run game going.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Okay, let me ask you this though, because I don't
I think we're all in agreement there.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Okay, doesn't Sean have to work on staying committed to
the run game though.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
I feel like the reason why the run game is
with the run game is because he goes away from it.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
He's got commitment issues, I.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Would say, so, Yeah, I don't think he wants to
marry the run game.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Well he did. He did have Drew Brees when he
was in New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
He did, but he also had Alvin Kamara and remember
a duce McAllister won upon once upon a time, if
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Mistaken with at the beginning of his career, didn't he
Yeah he did.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Yeah, the deuce is loose. I remember that he.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Had Ingram right.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
I mean, he's had some really good backs, but most
of those backs caught the ball out the backfield, probably
more than they actually ran into football. Like, yeah, commitment issues.
He's got to stay committed to it. But you know
today's NFL sling it around, right, But.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
See, that's just it. See, here's what I think is wild.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
I understand. Like, let's take a Ben Johnson who gets
hired in Detroit. Okay, okay, or gets hired from Detroit
in Chicago. And you know, Lakey says it all the
time when we ask him why don't offensive guys run
the ball? And then he says, because you don't get
praised for that. Running the football is running football.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
You know, he got sexy.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
You don't get called the genius, you don't get called
you know, your your five yard consistent runs don't end
up on Sports Center or on the highlight shows or whatever.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
But it's how you win football games.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Sean, though, is an established head coach, no one's gonna
think less of him. Is an offensive guy if he commits.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
To running the football. I don't understand why he doesn't
just run it.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
And you know what sucks. What you know what they're
doing now in the NFL is theyf throwing those like
little two yard hitches and they're calling that a run play,
you know what I mean? And that's not that's not it.
That's you could get that same two yards between the tackles,
and they want to throw it out that he's old
soft wire receivers and I'm a dB, Yeah, they're soft
wire receivers. I'm calling you soft because I was a
(08:10):
dB and I'm a dog at what I did. And hey,
forget that little those little denk routes man hand the
ball off to you pay that big back for something,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So well, and you establish wearing people down. I mean,
I remember I always tell the story of riding.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
I was riding.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
I guess we're going up the elevator. Happened to run
in Terrell Davis And I've done some work on NFL Network.
This is the twenty thirteen season. Broncos are getting whooped
by the Giants. I'm going up there at halftime to
just let them have the field for that concert. And
I see Terrell and Terrell of course, Trell's fuman right.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
This is his team.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
And you know that was back when they had the
shotgun handoff is what they kept doing with no Sean
and no full.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Back or anything. And Terrell just told me, he goes
ay that run game, ain't it. That's not it.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
That's You're never gonna wear a defense down running the
football that way. You're never going to tire someone out
and take their soul that way.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
We've got a fullback on the roster. We do Michael
Burton Michael burt his guy. That's one of Shawn's guys,
Michael Burton. So maybe just maybe he changes this commitment level.
And if we've got a fullback on the roster, maybe
they put the put him in and say let's wear
it down. I mean, we've let's see. Look I'm hoping, well,
you know what's gonna happen in this first preseason game? Right,
(09:22):
they're the starters.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
He'll be a thousand waggle plays.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
You know, I say, and I'll bet you. I bet
your coke. I say. The offensive starters in this first
game roll the ball less than seven times, okay, less
than seven passes over under, and maybe maybe this give
us an indication of what Sean wants to do.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
All right, how much do we see Evan Ingram this game?
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Do you think?
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Because Evan Ingram so people have said, I want to
fill you in on some of the intel we've been given.
According to both leg Wald and coach Sandford, the second
receiver on this team is actually Evan Ingrim. He's the
tight end, but he's going to be the second most
targeted guy, probably to Courtland.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Sudden, which is a quarterback's best friend. The tight end,
but for this preseason game. I hope they do not
put him out on field for what you don't need
to get that gets proven. He's probably killing it in
camp doing We do not need him to get nicked
up at all. Quarterback's best friend tight end, So keep
him out of the game.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
You once upon a time were in these camps. See,
this is the thing that I think is also nuts.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
This team.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
This is a team that wasn't very good a couple
of years ago. It just wasn't you know, Shawn's first year,
it felt like he hated out the roster quite honestly,
and now all of a sudden, it's the team. As
you said, they retained eighty six percent of the roster,
they got to the playoffs last year, and all of
a sudden, it feels like they're they're stable, They're stacked up.
Shawn's got his guys, Like I cannot believe it's only
(10:50):
two years later and we're talking about and not a
lot of jobs to be had. But it just doesn't
feel like there's a lot of jobs to be had
because Sewan knows what he wants to do with all
his guys that he had a year ago. I think
he's got roles in mind for Pat Bryan, for RJ. Harvey,
for Evan Ingram. I just don't see a lot of places.
And we talked about the defense already. Chris Abrams Drain.
I think he's a hell of a player. I think
that kid and some of the lesser teams could compete
(11:10):
for a starting spot.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Completely agree about that solely.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
You've been there.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
I mean, what do you do, especially in the modern NFL,
what do you do to catch someone's eye?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
You've got to pop on film. It's you know what
the NFL is. What have you done for me now?
Not lately, right now? What have you done for me
right now? And you have to pop on film and
these preseason games to make this team based on what
Sean Payton has coming back eighty six percent of his roster,
you have got to be a guy who when the
(11:40):
play is there to be made, you make it. You've
got to be a lineman when the block is there
to be made, you are pancaking guy and laying on
top of him and humping him. And when I say
humping him, if you know what, if you know in
football terms, you watch these linemen when they hit the ground,
the fat guy's just falled on top of you and
they sprawl out like it, throw their hands and legs
out to the ref, doesn't you know? But you've got
(12:02):
to pop on film, and that's you know, you know.
I think maybe there's three spots, okay, four on this
roster for a guy to opportunity, a guy to have
an opportunity to make the roster. And and Defense. I'm
gonna tell you right now. Defense is one of them.
Their linebacking corps as good as they are on paper,
(12:23):
they've got a bunch of guys that have been nicked
up and they've got they've got some opportunity there.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Yeah, Singleton's out with the thumb screw. Green Law didn't
practice today. I think they're keeping him out. They didn't
want him to get too involved. Me with some of
the old teammates, I believe a sol funga. I think
that held him out too, just to keep the weirdness away.
Hugh Robinson, what is he doing? I haven't mean to
I'll tell you what. He's been great, but he's got
a bone bruise.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
We're gonna get to. I want to do this.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
I gave you homework looking at the roster you've come
up with three or four spots, and we will will
break it down at four forty five where you think
there's some jobs to be one, but Kean Robinson's the
guy we're gonna talk about. Matter of fact, one of
the tweets coming out of that camp was, man, they're
so deep on the defensive line in front seven. There
could be it could be tough there, but they've got
a lot of good players.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Sometimes we feel this early on in camp and then
maybe I do believe they've got a very deep front seven,
but sometimes, uh, it's not always as deep as you think,
especially if you start losing guys. But when we come back,
we're gonna try to connect with romy Bean and get
a more personal look at port at least get a
report on what camp look like today. She's out there
in San Francisco, although she's got a million TV hits.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
So we're gonna talk to Romi.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
We're also definitely gonna go on out to Cleveland and
talk with Darryl Ryder, and he's gonna talk to us.
He's a talk show host out there. What's going on
with Shador on the Browns? What does he expect tomorrow night.
And what is the town like is Shador is set
to get the first start tomorrow. Maybe the most watched
preseason game of the weekend is gonna be Cleveland, Carolina.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
You can, at least for everybody in Colorado anyway.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
I promise you every Shador Sanders, the Sanders family fans
are gonna be tuned into this game to see what's
going on.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
So we've got a lot of that ahead here on
Crekman and Lindall.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
You've got the Krekman and Lyndahl Podcast. Listen live every
weekday from ten am to noon on Altitude Sports Radio
ninety two to five and on the Altitude Sports Radio app.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
It is Craikman and Lindall Andy Lindall here with Marcus Washington,
former buff Today also spend a little time at the
Patriots and then was also a member of a couple
of Canadian Football League teams. So three oh three five,
four oh nine two five is the number if you
want to give us a holler. We now go off
to San Francisco's We're gonna double up here on our
interview segment. We've we're gonna talk with our pal Roamy
(14:45):
Bean about what went on out there in San Francisco
today and then we're off to Cleveland to get a
report on what's going on with Shador.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
But Rome appreciate the time. I know it was a
crazy day.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Judging by all the tweets fly in that I saw,
especially from your account, sounded like it was a good
day for the Broncos.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Yeah, you know what, it was a great thing, guys.
It started just on the very first period, just one
v one, like, Broncos looked like they were getting burned
a little bit. And then we'd go to seven on sevens,
you go to team period and the Broncos just they
really looked solid in all aspects. The defense looks as advertised, folks.
They were smothering. Even Christian McCaffrey couldn't really get a
(15:22):
lot of breathing room red zone, gave up a couple
of touchdowns, but overall they looked fantastic. And on the
other side, bow Nicks just looks really sharp. That's the
best word I would use to explain it. And the
big thing that stood out about Bo was second act
bow which we saw a lot last year, but his
ability to extend plays some of the best plays. I
thought it passed to de von Vailey that he made
(15:42):
he was running, he was falling over into the sideline,
makes a crossbody pass while he's on the run to Vley,
same thing in the red zone, flushed out the pocket,
manages to get one in the back corner of the
end zone to Corland Sudden. So that ability to extend
plays against a really solid defensive really on display today
and gives you a lot of excitement for what that
(16:03):
could turn into as the season goes.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
It looked like Troy Franklin was also kind of impressive today.
Where were your thoughts on him? I know you tweeted
about he and bo a couple times.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
Yeah, that connection continues to grow. There was one of
the first team periods it seemed like they were featuring
mostly Troy Franklin and some Marvin Men's kind of on
those deep throws, but Troy really making a lot of
impressive throws. He had an impressive camp and this was
another day that he just built on. That new defense
didn't seem to bother him. That chemistry, that organ duck
chemistry seems to be really showing out with these two.
(16:37):
Really impressed with what he's done, His ability to make
catches and just to be where Bo needs him to beat.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
And my question and how you doing. Nice to finally
meet you and talk to you, Mark romy So my
question to you was, how did how did the secondary look?
How did certain look? And Juaqua McMillan.
Speaker 6 (16:56):
They look great. I would give another guy mentioned Riley Moss,
who has continue to just kind of have a really
good camp, had another great day to day. He had
a couple of great TV It was a great diving
one in one of the team periods. I think there's
so many eyes on Riley Moss and there will be
so many eyes on Riley Moss because you were across
from Pats or ten quarterbacks are just gonna try and
nail you all game long. And he really continues to
(17:17):
step up to the plate. Pat, you know, is just pat.
He never looks flustered. You know, he gave up one
to George Kittle, but really overall Pat just continues to
lock it down as he does. And I think watching
John D. Barron was really fascinating. There was a couple
times where you know, he got burned as a rookie,
but moving him around and how quickly he learns, which
(17:39):
is something that they've really talked about in camp is
his football IQ and you'd see him on the very
next play be somewhere else and then didn't give up
the same you know, didn't give up the play, and
he was really great in coverage and they were moving
him all over the place. So continuing to see how
his role is going to evolve. I think with Jaquan. Obviously,
Jaquan is going to be fighting a lot more or
(18:00):
for time on the field because John A seems to
just be picking everything up very quickly and excelling really
a lot in the plot. And then you know in
the nickel all over the place.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Well, and it's interesting because you talked about second play bow,
which is good and we like second play bow. But
we've been watching a lot of an offensive line and
you and I've talked a little bit of camp, but
I haven't said this, I don't think to you. I
cannot believe out this pass rush resembles the one you
and I saw up close in twenty fifteen at times,
because you've got that great first step with Nick Benito
and obviously good linemen to play off of it, and
(18:31):
Jonathan Cooper on the other side.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Was the offensive line better today. Did he have to
do as much second pay play Bow? How did they
hold up against the Niners front?
Speaker 7 (18:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (18:40):
I thought it was a great test, and they all
kind of said a great test, But there was a mix.
There was a time I thought the line did a
really great job protecting Bow, and there was quite a
few times where the protection broke down, and that's when
Bo started using his legs and making those great plays.
So I guess you could look at it from that perspective. Hey,
but the play is breaking down, right, the coverage is
breaking down. I think this was a really good challenge
(19:01):
for the offensive line. They definitely got tested by a
really good forty nine ers front. But all in all,
there wasn't it. You know, there wasn't it wasn't you know. Sorry,
there's a they're having an event here and it's very loud.
They're moving all them stuff.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
There are a million planes today too.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Right's gonna be really loud. Hold on hopeless, Okay, the marching.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
You'd see coverage breakdown, but you wouldn't see it on
some secutive plays. You know, you kind of see it
parsed out a little bit. So I thought the offensive
line did a really good job overall protecting ball, and
we didn't see it when plays a breakdown. It wasn't
like back to back place right now.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Was the running game effective at all to day in
any of the team periods that you may have noticed.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
So what I liked was that we saw a nice
emphasis on the run game, and in all these periods
there was a lot of commitment, yes, a commitment to
the running In the very first play in the first
team period was JK. Dobbins, So you'd love to see it. JK.
Dobbins was the first one. R J. Harvey, he was
featured a lot. We really saw all the backs get
a lot of run. SMA get a lot of run.
I know there's a lot of questions about where estimate
(20:06):
is going to kind of fall in all this, but
a consistent use of the run game, a commitment perfect
word for it. So I didn't see any big you know,
guys breaking through if you will, but just kind of
consistently using that run game to push the ball down
the field a little bit, a little bit, a little bit.
Obviously no tackling. It's always a little harder to tell,
(20:26):
but we certainly saw a bigger emphasis than I think
we've seen in your stuff.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
All Right, We're gonna let you go after this because
I know you got TV to do. Everybody watch Romeo
and CBS for tonight. But I've got to ask you.
You and I started radio with our guy Ed McCaffrey
out there, and our first week on the job was
what second week on the job, We're going to a
super Bowl and watching the Broncos playing that exact stadium.
You got any feels, got any nostalgic kicking up being
(20:51):
back in there?
Speaker 6 (20:53):
Oh man? You know what it was. I'm actually walking
in the bowels right now and I'm trying to look
where the cheerleader locker room was. I can't find because
obviously it was like a miscellaneous locker room, but I
did try and attempt to find it. However, I think
now I've just gotten myself walking around and circled. But
it does. It's really interesting that the Super Bowl is
back here this year, guys. So I posted about, oh man,
(21:14):
this place brings back memories, and people started, uh like,
fans started saying start the season here, start here and here.
So I talked to Jonathan Cooper want and wanted to
ask him. I was like, how I do feel about that,
you know, and he was like, I like it, but
look we got a long way to go. Uh, we'll see,
but start here and here kind of have some good vibes, guys.
I feel good about it.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
I think you and I both have confetti still from
the night of that game too as well. So it's
a good time, all right, roon, We appreciate the report.
We have fun on TV, and we'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Thank you so much, thank you, thanks, thanks, guys, appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
That's our gal romy being almost a guy. Nope, that's
our gal romy Bean, although she's got she's got a
guy's sense of humor.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Yeah, he's like one of the guys hang out with.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Because of that, she really is like one of the guys.
But good reports.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
I think we're gonna we're gonna connect with Darryl Ryder
out there in Cleveland. But good reports coming out of
training camp there today. Again, if you missed it, I
would tell you go check Twitter, and frankly, I would
tell you go tech. Whoever you've got that's your favorite
person is. We've talked about Marcus that it's been good.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
And when you get some stuff done, that's super positive.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Absolutely, Wait is it is it still call twitter xx?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:28):
You know what, I'm still calling them the San Diego Chargers,
so good luck.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
I think when I finally get Los Angeles Chargers down,
you know what I mean, then I'll also finally get
that actually called X so yeah Twitter? Right, So anyway,
all right, three oh three, five oh four oh nine
two five, we'll continue to talk about it. We are
going to go out because again I'm kind of curious.
You and I both kind of wonder. Now you it's
interesting because what you talked about, well, we'll see what
the Broncos coming up Saturday limited pass plays. What are
(22:57):
the Browns ultimately gonna do with Shad or you Before
we get on our guests, you kind of mentioned you're
not so sure that Shador. Easy for me to say,
gets a ton of opportunities regardless, because it's the first
preseason game.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
You want to you want to hit that now. So
this is my feels about it. I don't think they're
gonna let Shador do what Shaudor can really do, because
I think they're going to, like, like we said, there's
some conspiracy out there of what they're trying to pull
with this guy, and I am totally supporting him. I
(23:32):
think they're only gonna let him throw the ball. If
he throws the ball more than four times, I'll be surprised.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Really, how long do you think he plays? Do you
think he just because again, Flacco's not playing. Two guys
are hurt and they got Snoopunley is the other player?
Speaker 4 (23:47):
What Snoop?
Speaker 6 (23:47):
Dope?
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Well, he was the Baltimore Ravens quarterback, the super sub.
Remember he filled in for Lamar Jackson?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
I remember.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Unlike you're playing now, I can't play.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Let's go off to Cleveland and let's get the opinion
of a man that's been watching plenty of Browns Camp.
We're going to talk with Daryl Ryder of ninety two
to three the fan in Cleveland. Man, we're so close,
we're ninety two five. It's almost like we're twin brothers there. Darryl,
thanks for the time today. What do you expect the
play breakdown to be for Shador as.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Far as quarters?
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Does he get a half? Does he get a lot
of work? Do you think they go to Huntley pretty quick?
Speaker 6 (24:22):
No?
Speaker 8 (24:22):
I think that because Tyler Huntley just got here, and
the situation being what it is, I could see Shidoras
Sanders getting the first half and maybe even into the
second half a little bit before they have Tyler come
in and kind of mop things up at the end.
But this is certainly an opportunity for Sanders to show
the organization how far he has come, because right now
(24:45):
he is clearly buried on the depth chart as the
number four quarterback.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Now has he The rumas are he hasn't had any
run with the number one? Is that true?
Speaker 8 (24:55):
Yeah, but he did get four reps against the equivalent
of a series against the first team defense while working
with the second team offense during one of the camps.
I think it was a session seven. But yeah, he's
not received any first team reps. Those have all gone
to Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dylan Gabriel their third
(25:18):
round pick.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
And now are they expected to play their their starters?
You know in the beginning of the game.
Speaker 8 (25:25):
The Panthers will start their players, the Browns will not.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Okay, now we're going to get second team offense versus
a first team defense.
Speaker 8 (25:33):
Correct, And yeah, so that is why in the joint
practice in Carolina this week. You did not see Shador
Sanders run with the first team offense. I know that
there was a little bit of a hubub locally about that.
And the reality is he wasn't going to play with
him anyway on Friday night, so there was no reason
(25:55):
to put him with the ones. He got to work
with the folks that he will be playing with on
Friday night, and that is the twos in the threes,
all right, So.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Darryl, I am curious. I'll let you know that.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
You know, I did the Broncos sidelines when Tim Tebow
was here, and you know, there was a ton of hoopla.
There was a lot of public opinion. He was the
favorite of the fan base, but wasn't always the best
guy in practice. Honestly, by the end of twenty ten,
when they started Orton over him, I understood the decision
after watching all the training camp practices. He just was
(26:29):
not a practice guy. Now, his skill set was very
different from Shador, who I covered to CEU and watched
all his games the last two years. I think Shador
is a good football player, and I think there's a
good starting quarterback in there.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
But what has it been like covering this guy.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Are there camps forming, do the fans want him or
is this just something that feels bigger because ESPN talks
about it on the daily.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
Well, I think it's more of an ESPN and fancy
than him being ready to step in and start. You know,
he's He's got to say. The Browns view him as
a development player. Obviously, they recognize that there's some talent
here because they traded up with Philadelphia to move up
(27:13):
in the fifth round to go ahead and finally end
his weight and take him off the board. But the
reality is the Browns also feel that there's a lot
of development and matureing that he needs to do from
a football standpoint and a football performance standpoint to you know,
go ahead and be ready. And you know, for an
(27:34):
organization that has ruined many a quarterback over the stay,
I have to give the Browns some credit here. It's
not that they're handing handling it with kid gloves, but
they are taking their time with him. He's a fifth
round pick. If he works out, great, they they you know,
hit a lottery. If he doesn't work out, he's not
(27:55):
a bust. He's a fifth round pick. R you know,
a lot you know, a lot of fifth round picks,
so you can see the talent there, but the organization's
taking a very measured approach. They're not watching ESPN, they
are not listening to fans, They're not listening to people
like me or you or anyone else. You know, they
are sticking to their plan as far as developing him
(28:19):
and preparing him to play. Could we see him at
some points this season? Yeah, absolutely. This is a franchise
that has needed three and four quarterbacks to get through
seasons since the team came back in nineteen ninety nine.
I mean they've started forty of these guys since coming back,
and so yeah, they're taking their time with him. Yes,
(28:40):
no question. He's a hot button here in Cleveland. There
was a practice the other day I was watching, and
I've been real tough on Dylan Gabriel, their third round
pick recently. But that's because they're giving him reps with
the first team offense like he's a first round pick.
And and you know, this goes back to mini camp
(29:03):
and OTA's like, first guy getting eleven on eleven was
Dylan Gabriel, not Joe Flaco or Kenny Pickett. And so
I have been evaluating him as such. And my thing
is they better not put that guy on the field
or were they going to have a chance to win
because he does not look like an NFL ready quarterback
right now. That's not to say that he can't turn
into that same thing with Shador, but he's not ready.
(29:25):
And if the Browns recognize s your Door's not ready,
they kind of need to recognize that Dylan Gabriel is
not ready either.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
So in your assessment and your assessment of those two
quarterbacks that you just put that you just from what
you just said, out of those two quarterbacks, s Your
dur and Dylan, who's closer as far as being NFL
ready If you were going to put a guy on
the field. Obviously Chador is going to play due to
whatever injuries whatever. Who do you assess from being you know,
(29:52):
boots on the ground, who do you assesses is more
NFL ready right now?
Speaker 6 (29:57):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (29:57):
Well, the organization believes it is Dylan. I believes neither
one of them, Okay, I just and I just don't
think either one's ready yet. And again that's not to
say that they can't grow into that. But as we
have the conversation right now and you're asking me if
who do I start on, you know, Friday or Sunday
afternoon at one o'clock. It's the regular season. We're here.
(30:19):
I'd say neither one. But because they're not ready. They
just they're young and they have to develop, and there's
a reason they're third and fifth round picks.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Well, and Daryl, look, I saw it again.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
I told you I watched him in college and should
always a lot of fun for a college player, and
I appreciate the excitement and energy he brought back to
see you. I also know he needs to learn I think,
how to go to I don't know if he needs
to learn it, but he's got to go through the
progressions better. He's got to not always want to throw
the home run ball, which is frankly, his line sometimes
is so bad. His only choice was to escape pressure
(30:53):
early and find Travis Hunter somewhere.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
In the great beyond. He did have a great group
of receivers.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
But again, and I had guys telling me he's got
to learn to run a pro offense on time the
way the coaches want to. Has he been any better
at that part of it?
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Can you tell?
Speaker 6 (31:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (31:12):
Clearly?
Speaker 6 (31:13):
Clearly.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
The Browns don't think so, because again, he is firmly
the number four quarterback on the rock. Footwork needs work.
I mean just even in some drills, you can tell
he has football trauma. Right, Like you said, every snap
of Colorado was a jail break. So he's constantly trying
to find ways to evade that pressure and what whatnot.
(31:34):
And you'll you'll watch like seven on sevens and there's
no offensive line, no defensive line, and he is simulating
himself and it's it's just a straight three five seven
step drop, let it rip right. Well, while he's going
through that, he's simulating that he's under siege. And that's
not what right, That's not what the Browns coaches are
(31:54):
looking for right now, right they So there are some
habits in his game that I think that the Browns
are working to break and they feel that obviously he's
got the capability of doing that. I would agree with
you In the learning the pro offense part of things,
I think that that's an area the Browns would like
to see some more growth. And then again, it just
(32:15):
it goes back to it's not that he's it's not
that he's not a good player or whatnot, or he
has a bad attitude or any of these other ridiculous
narratives that are out there. He just has some things,
both physically and also just behind the scenes from a
preparation standpoint, that he needs to adjust to, and if
he is able to make those adjustments, then yeah, he
(32:39):
is going to In my view, I think he'll be
a pretty good quarterback. I don't will he be elite,
I have no idea, but could he be a good quarterback?
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Sure?
Speaker 8 (32:49):
Absolutely, But there are things that need to happen, you know,
from a growth standpoint with him for that to occur.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Talk with Daryl Ryder, Brown's reporter for ninety two three.
The fame in Cleveland very unique, very clever, Twitter handle
ex handle sorry at right or wrong? Fan is where
you'll find him. All right, I've got to ask you
before you let you go. The news comes out pro
football talk, everyone's reporting it. Arch Manning, who I'm sure
you're well aware of it, probably have talked about, has
(33:18):
been linked to Cleveland in some ways with the old
you know, the big plan or whatever that I know
Jimmy has them kind of put to bed. But what
is the reaction in Cleveland hearing arch Manning is unlikely
to declare for this upcoming draft or has there been one?
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Well not for me.
Speaker 8 (33:34):
I mean, I'm just like it, can we get through
the twenty twenty five seasons first and whatever that's gonna bring, right,
I mean, we still have four or five months of
either football play or football well, you know, just a
continuation of what we watched for the last twenty six years.
But look, I mean, Jimmy has one. You know, he's
been tied to the Manning family for years and years
(33:56):
and years. Obviously there's you know, relationships there, their Tennessee
roots and whatnot. From my standpoint, my reaction is, well,
that's the brownsiest thing ever because they're going to be
a position to get the number one pick, and potentially
the best player that could be available at that position
is going to stay in college another year. So that's
(34:17):
kind of what my reaction to that is. I personally,
I hope he does come out, but you know, when
you have folks from within the family, and of course
Jimmy Haslam, which is kind of funny when the Haslum's
held their media availability last week. Let's see, they're building
a stadium here, They're still trying to get out from
underneath the Shawn Watson's contract. There's like a myriad of
(34:38):
other issues they that they're organizationally having to deal with,
including expanding their training facility. The very first question that
Jimmy Haslam got asked was about arch Manning's availability in
these twenty twenty sixth NFL Draft, Like.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
They need a quarterback, yeah, because they don't have enough
going on.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Darryl.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
We appreciate it that thanks so much for taking some
time today, and I guess enjoy the I don't know,
maybe you know what, maybe you get two years ago
Joe Flacco and it's not such a circus because I
do think that team has a pretty good surrounding cast.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
But you gotta figure the quarterback thing out. Thank you
for the time.
Speaker 8 (35:14):
Today, you bet guy, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
That is Daryl Ryder again from ninety two to three
The fan in Cleveland writer are U I T E R?
Wrong fan? Right or wrong fan? Is where he's at
on X All right, Marcus Washington's in with us today.
He's picked out three positions where a Bronco's newcomer, we'll say,
could maybe make a splash. We'll tell you what those
(35:38):
are coming up next.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
You've got the Krekman and Lynn Dahl Podcast. Listen live
every weekday from ten am to noon on Altitude Sports
Radio ninety two to five and on the Altitude Sports
Radio app.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
And we welcome you back Altitude Sports Radio ninety two
five sitting in with me as Marcus Washington, former buff
DC coordinator DC that's redundant defensive coordinator for Range UW
High School. Did you get a look at coaches playbook
before he left? Just in case the playoff matchup shows up?
Sandford there?
Speaker 4 (36:13):
I may have got a little you may yeah, I
got a little peek at it.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Did you ever did you ever play against Manning? By chance?
Speaker 4 (36:20):
No? Okay, I didn't get a chance.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
It was so funny because one year, I don't know,
you you getting a little secrets as you were chatting
with him is something that triggered this thought in my head.
I was watching one of the one year I want
to say it might have been twenty thirteen, but it
could have been twenty fifteen. But anyway, one of the
Patriots pass rushes I think it was. It was Chandler Jones.
You know, it was out there hanging out by the pile.
(36:42):
Whatever we were near the goal line and there was
something going on with a review of the spot or
whatever and or maybe we would win to break whatever
it was, there was a stoppage and play and Manning
just kind of walked over and was kind of talking
with Chandler Jones that I'm watching this from down, you know,
from down the goal line, and some one of the
vets like saw it going on, and I mean grabbed
(37:02):
Chandler Jones and yanked him away from Manning and was like,
don't be talking to him, don't.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
I was like, I wonder what he picked. I wonder
what Jones gave up.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
And he didn't even realize it because it looked like
one of those singers, you know, Jones was the rookies, like,
hey man, the Hall of famer's talking to me or whatever.
And immediately this Patriot that one of the Patriot linebackers
put in into it.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Listen, you don't want to be talking to him anyway.
He's gonna hey that.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Guy, he's got spy questions, right got that guy could
trick you.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Jedi mind trick that one.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
That's what I'm gonna say that part right there, Jedi
mind tricky. You're out there thinking you're all excited about
talking to this you know this, this this Hall of Famer,
and not knowing that he's yeah, he's in your brain.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
He's you just gave up your first Yeah, that's interesting.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
Got now, I just wondered if you're trying to do that,
those veterans will do that to you.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
I'm sure Tom Brady get you to.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Right see what coach doesn't know, And I'm sure he's
listening on the way home. Yeah, coach, I got I
got a little secret from you. You know, I picked
up on something he said. You know.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Yeah, Well then hopefully you know what, I hope later
on maybe there's a matchup you can tell us if
it worked on that.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
We'll have to see how the story played out.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
It'd be great to get a matchup.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
You know, did you have a real quick because I
want to get We're gonna get Marcus's three three positions
where maybe somebody could find a way to make the team,
because it's amazing for a team that was in the
position and was in when Sean Payton got here, how
zipped up this roster fields. By the way, we're talking
training camp and the coverage on altitude Sports is powered
by Ramo's Law. The official injury law firm partner Broncos
(38:33):
Country Brandon Marshall, and the linebacker told me a funny
story one time with uh.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
I guess he was.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
This was in the AFC Championship of all things, but
he's getting ready to rush Tom Brady, and I guess
Tom read the formation and said something to his back
and basically said that guy's the weak point. And Marshall,
I could believe that. He He was like, what what
you better hope this camp doesn't open up and I
get a free run or whatever. Do you have any
story like that from the field where college or pro
(39:03):
or whatever where just something you like. Marshall could not
believe he had heard him say that.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
You know, my my rookie year in miniicamp with the Patriots,
I was, I was backing up Loyer Maloy. And if
if there are any Patriot fans out there, they know
who Loyal Maloy was. He was a stud slit, stud
pro bowler safety. So they moved me from corner, coming
from Colorado playing corner to behind Loyal Maloy and I'm
(39:30):
you know, the first team guys go and talking about
scripts the first team defense runs the same plays that
the second team defense runs. So we're out there and
I'm going against the first team offense. Well, they know
the script. They knew what when I was going to blitz,
So loyal malloy goes down previous previous series, blitz, hits
(39:51):
the running back in the mouth, hits makes makes the
play here. I come on second team and I'm coming down.
I didn't know we ran him in the same order.
I had no clue to running the same place in
the same order. I get down the line of scrimmage
and this guard, the opposite guard, points at me. I
thought he was pointing identifying the mic. You know how
those linemen A yeah, thirty fourth of mic. Yeah, I'm
(40:14):
thinking he's identifying the mic. No, he's identifying me. I
get down the line of scrimmage and I blitz exactly
like lawyer does. I'm thinking, I'm about to make the
same place. I saw my entire life flash before my eyes.
This three hundred and sixty pounds guard wrapped around and
he hit me in the mouth and he's like, welcome
to the NFL with it, and I'm and so we
(40:35):
get we get meetings, like what the hell are they
how'd you do that? Lawyer? Coach goes, it's the same script, dummy.
I'm like, oh, man, with someone that.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Had told me this, I may have not believe you
would have seen you. You would to see you take
him on.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Oh my god, man, I lost my hey yeah concussion.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Yeah yeah, Okay, we'll get the smelling salte. All right,
you got three positions given, I mean the three positions
where you think somebody might be able to make this team.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
The first position is their weak side linebacker. Okay, okay,
we've got Nick Benito. Yep, he's the guy right now.
But I really think, uh, is it? Is it? Quake
Q Robinson? I really think you Robinson can make this roster.
Just because you're a drafted, Folks that are listening, just
because you're a drafted doesn't mean you will make a roster. Help, really,
(41:25):
it helps, but doesn't make I really believe he'll make
this roster. And here's why I watched this film and
he reminds me of von Miller, and I know that's
that's high accolades. And if you've watched any film on
this guy, he he is an edge rusher. He's a
third down specialist. That's what he did in college. He
made the plays. I really think he's going to be
(41:48):
a big surprise for us, and I think he's gonna
make this roster.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
I've liked him and coach Sanford Lakes and who you
have too?
Speaker 4 (41:54):
Two justin, he says, just internat. He's another guy. And
here's why the neat has quietly been taking care of
business with all the injuries at the linebacker position. I
think that he is going to sneak in. He's gonna
make the fifty three man roster. He may be a
(42:15):
special teamer. He may be a special team out of
college exactly that's what he did in college. He may
not make a big splash, but I think he'll sneak
in and make this roster.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
See that's interesting because with the additions at linebacker and
his time starting last year, I thought a lot of
us thought that maybe he would be on the outs.
But you're right, special teams play will keep you around.
Who's your third guy?
Speaker 4 (42:37):
And my third guy is a no brainer? Right, it's
Baron A Baron. I think I actually think he's gonna
end up being a starting nickel. Okay, and because he's younger,
you know what I mean? I give him. I give
him three or four four weeks into the season, and
barring any setbacks by anybody, I think that kid is
(42:57):
going to be a stud. He's a study. He won
the Thorpe coming out of college. Yeah, so to Sartain
also won the Thorp Right, Well, so I'm.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Laughing because also remember spring that was like the only
that was the only reward list that like, uh, Travis
Hunter won everything.
Speaker 3 (43:15):
And was by all accounts the best dB in the league.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
And the Thorpe people are like, nah, no, we're gonna
give it to the Texas kid, which the thornp people
are out of Oklahoma. It's like, hold on, really right,
you really hated You're gonna give it to give the
kid for Texas. So all right, there you go. There's
three names and those are all people that we need
to be watching coming up here, because it's gonna get
into more of this of what you should be watching
for in this preseason game, because I know we're gonna
(43:39):
see the starter's been in perfect world. You're gonna get
about two drives if that, maybe you get one long
drive and that'll be the night for them. Are high
fives coming up next, and we've got our annual segment.
Nate's gonna be disappointed that he missed this because normally
he's the big conductor of it. But Mark Springer is
gonna is going to fill in just fine as we
do something we do every year. And I promise I've
(44:01):
not studied for this. That's all ahead in the five
o'clock hour here on Craikman and Lindall
