Speaker 1 (00:05):
Good evening. This is maybe Bullings with KSOM and ks
ninety five news. The big equipment moved in and major
construction has started on the Atlantic Downtown Street improvement project.
Dave Sturm of Snyder and Associates engineers for the project.
So the milling work began on Sixth Street this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
And then what their plan is is to just keep
moving south to north, taking Chestnut Street with them while
they go. So they're going to do a couple of
blocks at a time, get it all cleaned up and
reopen to traffic before they move on to the next
two blocks. So that's that's their plan right now.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
The milling portion of the project should be completed in
a couple of weeks, followed by the asphalt overlay project.
Storm doesn't have a timeline for the overlay portion of
the project.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Again weather dependent. You know, it's been raining a lot
this summer, so we'll have to we'll have to work
around the rainfall events.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
But we hope to.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Be done with the asphalt project. I would say sometime
in the early part of September. That's the hope right now, town,
but we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Sturm admits the project will give the downtown an entirely
new look.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Well it's all said, I mean, what's it going to
do for the city here. Oh, it's going to be great.
You know, have new streets downtown. You know it's been
full of potholes the last few years at the city
Street Department has been doing a good job keeping up
on But with the new asphalt, everything will be smooth,
new paint, new asphalt, everything will be good to go downtown.
It will really really make the downtown look pretty sharp again.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's Dave Storm. The Dair County Board of Supervisors approved
the final grandstands drawings at their meeting this.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Morning, seating for nine hundred and ninety eight people, fifteen rows,
one hundred and twenty feet long. It's going to have
a rough really learning that we changed as we raised.
We raised the elevation of the the cool grandstands just
to match the elevation for the elevation shorts being put
(02:00):
on this lab. That's only changed.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
The board also approved a bid for concrete by the
Veterans Memorial.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Yeah, one bid. They contacted three people Derek County Concrete
that is thirty two to fifty. That's still the person
we got to bid.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
The supervisors then approved a funding request presented by Michelle
Dala Riva with Community and Family Resources, a nonprofit behavioral
health agency that provides treatment, prevention, and recovery services for
those seeking help for substance use, mental health, and problem
gambling disorders. Due to some funding changes in fiscal year
twenty six, they are requesting that each of the counties
(02:39):
allocate support from the Opioid Settlement Fund to support the
cost of the detox program.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
This support that we're asking for from Adair County really
is four hundred and fifty dollars. We are uncertain how
many Adair County residents will be coming up to Fort
Dodge or over to our Iola City program, but we
thought we would just ask for the amount that we
needed from the previous fiscal year.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Michelle Dala Reba explained that three Adair County residents participated
in the detox program, and of those three, only one
did not have healthcare coverage to pay for the service.
That individual stayed for only one day. Again, the supervisors
approved the funding request. Autumn County Fair Queen Emily Forren
