Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Community Connection here on k one AM,
fourteen hundred FM, ninety three point three ninety five point one.
Nathan Thompson here, and we've got, of course, our wonderful
ladies from OKM Music, mary Lynn mem in studio as well.
We've got a great guest with you I do.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I have our wonderful intern, Madeline Childs, and this is
her last week. So we brought Madeline with us to
represent the interns. They are all sadly going back off
to college. Oh yeah, and so we're very sad about this,
but very excited for them and can't wait to have
them back next season. So but we have so many
things to talk about today. We have our Octoberfest coming up.
(00:38):
That's right. It is on Saturday, October fourth. It's from
four to nine pm downtown at our office building. For
those who don't know where that is. We're right next
to the Roger State School building, across from two Banks
and just kind of in the heart of downtown between
fourth and fifth Street. So we'll be there again. We're
going into our thirteenth season, which is crazy. Absolutely, But
(01:02):
if you want to buy tickets, they just went on
sale this week at okaymusic dot org. People can come
down to the office and see Madeline, myself, Rose Katie,
I just sell Dad and they can get their tickets
in person if they prefer to do that, or they
can also call in at nine one eight three three
six nine nine zero zero and we are happy to
sell them tickets. But we have all kinds of fun
(01:24):
packages that you can do if you want to bring
the children eighteen and under are free, so that's our
gift back to the community. We have your basic ten
dollars gate ticket that gets you in and then everything
else is all a card if you want to go
buy your food, if you want to go buy your beer,
if you want to participate in games. But then we
also have a Family Fantastic ticket because we are the
family Fantastic october Fest that we are very family centric
(01:48):
and so that includes a mission for two adults, free
admission for all the kids, of course, and then it's
for souvenir root beer mugs, it's for delicious root beer floats,
twenty game tickets because we have a lot of games
to play, a set of party beads, because what Oberfests
wouldn't be complete without party? Right about that and then
fun Octoberfest stickers for both adults and kids. And I
(02:10):
say that because my daughter, who's getting ready to be thirty,
collects stickers and she puts them on her computers and
her yetties, so you know they are for everyone. Then
we also tried to have something a little different this
year and have fun with it. We have a October Kit,
so you have to be twenty one or older to
buy that ticket, but it's basically one gate entry to
(02:31):
enjoy all the music and the food and the festivities.
It's a commemorative glass beer Stein, so you get to
take that home with you, a bear cube pon to
go try it out with one of our local beer vendors,
a set of party beads. And then we also have
local retail swag this year and our ticket price, so
we have different retail vendors who are partnering us with
like Honey's, Moxies, our own store, sugar Plum Shop, and
(02:54):
others that are going to have really fun things put
in there. I know what the one for music is.
I want to keep it a surprise, but it's super fun,
it's super cute, and I think people are going to
really like it. And so that's a retail value of
approximately eighty dollars, probably will be more knowing Moxies and Honey's.
They're going to throw on some really good stuff. But
(03:15):
it's just a way for people to have fun and
come out and support the cause. Again, all proceeds from
Octoberfest go to our children's programming, so it's a really
good way to help perpetuate the music education of our future,
and so we're excited about that. Then we have a
special VIP beer bundle and so for a thousand dollars,
if you want to be a patron sponsor or a
(03:37):
corporate sponsor, you get a table, You get your little
tent and that you get pretzel coupons, you get two
pictures of beer, You get a keepsake beer stigns. You
also get to be entered if your team is willing
or your guests are willing to be in the beer relay.
That's super fun. And again you get retail swag bags
and then there is a sweet surprise on the table,
(03:58):
which again it's a it's really fun. I think people
are gonna have a really good time with it. And
then of course they get the party beads too. Of course,
because we don't want to leave them out.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yeah, of course, those those party beads are priceless. I'm
telling you right there, and that is true.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
And you know, these tables go fast and we sell
them out every year. So if you are interested, if
you're listening today and you want your company or you
want your group of friends to have that special little
table on the beer and the beer bundle, please, you
know again, give us a call or go to okmusic
dot org get your tickets and call us at nine
one eight through three six nine nine zero zero and
(04:32):
we will get your table reserved. And so people have
been calling us all week with tickets being on sales, saying,
oh my gosh, what's going on, like what's new? What
are you doing? And so format pretty much the same
four to nine, a little shorter than last year, but
I think we're going a little bit later. I think
it's going to be super fun. We have Mac Schnell
coming back playing that wonderful oopo PAM music. Yes, this year,
(04:54):
what's new Grady Nichols. This is the year of Grady
Nichols and OKAM music. And of course everyone loves Gratty,
so Grady's bringing his sacks, but he's also bringing in
according to this, So I'm like, this is going to
be fantastic, and so I think it's going to be
really fun. So he's going to throw in that German
flair for us. And then we also have our beloved
King Cabbage coming back, the Brass band that everyone loves. Yes, there,
(05:17):
they are so good, they are so fun, they're so energetic,
and so they're going to help us play all of
our games and have just an amazing time. Everybody can
do the chicken dance. We have some fun praises for
those who get out on the floor and do the
chicken dance. We also have Prices Meat Market, Peridum Cafe,
the Sugar Plum Shop, Nothing but Cakes coming to do
food and more more vendors coming for our beer. We
(05:40):
have Scissor Tail Brewing Company, Fat Toed Brewing Company is
also coming back, and Palace Rooms Mobile Bar, and so
I think that's going to be a pretty good successful
hit with all those guys. I can't wait to try
their october Fest bruise. And then we have vendors coming
so you can do some more retail therapy if you
would like to. If you're not into that. We of
(06:00):
course have the beer Stein Relay, the beer Stein Competition.
This year, what is new a glow in the dark
nine hole golf putt putt little course, So I think
that is going to be fun and popular. We have
our axe throwing back because people really like the ax throwing.
And then also new this year. Last year we had
the cutest two little Docsins that came dressed to the nines,
(06:26):
and so we thought, you know, instead of we don't
have a huge population of Docsins in Bartlesville, so we thought,
we'll open it to old dogs, but let's have a
dog costume contest. So we're inviting everyone to bring their
puppies to dress them up and we will have a
dog costume contest. And then for the children all the
kinder events we have. Our puppet shows are back that
(06:47):
were very wildly successful last year. Story times talking about
German culture and the German heritage, some Hansel and Gretel,
some beloved stories that kids will recognize. We'll have those.
We have pumpkin hating, cookie decorating, craft making, and our
shmoot Tooot bags, which are your normal going back to
(07:07):
school bags that the German children would get every year
and it's filled with all kinds of wonderful art supplies
and just fun little trinkets. They will get to make
their bags again this year. And then, of course we
have our beloved Yetti Raffle. Every year for the past
five years we have done a Yetti raffle. This year,
it's a beautiful blue, it's on wheels and it is
filled to the brim with German goodies, gift certificates, wine, beer,
(07:30):
you name it, it's in there. It's a value of
eight hundred dollars. So if you're inclined to participate in that,
and you don't even have to be present to win,
you can go online again at Okayanmusic dot org and
get your raffle tickets and that is Octoberfested a nutshell.
Tickets areund sale now, so get your tickets, reserve your tent.
(07:51):
And then I should also say the October kit tickets
are a limited edition, so please, if you want to
join in that fund and get your swag, you should
go ahead and get that resist now just before they
sell out because quantities are limited. Absolutely, So after we
recover from Octoberfest, which again I know I need to
say the dat again it's Saturday, October fourth, four to
(08:13):
nine pm, so again downtown Bartlesville. But then we are
moving to Chris Kindle Market and this year, normally it's
just about a month after and so October and November
are very busy months for OKAYM Music. This year we
are doing something very special. We are teaming up with
our beloved friends at wool Rock and we are taking
(08:34):
their Festival of Lights and taking our Chriskindle Market and
merging them together to make a magical experience. And so
this year we will be having our Chriskindle Market November
twenty eight through thirtieth. It's a Friday Saturday Sunday from
four to nine daily and again we'll be out at
the wool Rock Museum and Wildlife Preserve. And we are
(08:54):
super excited. So people have been asking, are we gonna
have to pay two prizes. No, it'll be one ticket
price for a magical two event experiences. Incredible, Yeah, and
we have so much to do out there. Tickets will
go on sale in September for this event. But we
are going to have a family Igloo experience for the
(09:16):
first time where families can come out. They can rent
an igloo and they're going to get all kinds of
special goodies in there. They're going to have hot cocoa pastries,
they're going to have cookie decorating, a family photo, a
story book that they get to take home, a very
magical story. But then it's also signed by Santa Claus,
so that's pretty special. And then you know, it's it's
one of those events that it's like decorated, it's all
(09:38):
lit up, and it's just a really nice time for
your family. If you don't have your family that's coming,
maybe they're not here for Thanksgiving, but you and your
friends want to get together, you can also rent the
igloos and go get your food and go get your
shopping and just bring it back and chill in the
igloo and have some privacy and have a really special
fun time.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Yes, I lived in Rapid City, South Dakoto for a
while with Oka and Iglu dining. It's actually a thing
there and it's so much fun.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
You know. Madeleine is not from Alaska, but her parents
live in Alaska and they have also had the same
dining experiences, and that's kind of where I'm stealing it from.
Her mom had told me all about it and I
was like, oh, that would be so much fun. So
we're bringing that to our beloved Chris Kendle Market and
Vestible of Lights. Then we also have of course, you
(10:25):
can go see the cultural center, the lodge, the museum
and really absorb all of the heritage out at wool Rock.
I mean, you can't get better than Christmas time out
at Ola Rock. It's just gorgeous. Of course it's decorated
to the Nine's Wave of Lights and they'll have their
wagons right out there and just so much on Beyonce
and just Christmas cheer inside the museum and inside the
(10:50):
I guess the Native American center of the Lodge will
be Not only will they have the beautiful art that
you always get to see, but we'll have vendors. That's
where our vendors are going, and so we typically have
forty plus retail vendors that come out and you can
do tons of holiday shopping. There will be live music
and caroling. We will have Santa and Missus Claus. And
(11:11):
Santa and Missus Claus for those who haven't been, are
absolutely adorable. They used to live in Bartlesville. Their daughter
is the owner of Jarrett Farms and they come back
and visit us every year and they put on the
most adorable show. And then in between their magical Santa
and Missus Claus show, they will sit and talk to
(11:31):
families and children, listen to wish lists for Christmas, take photos,
and then also play the guitar and sing at their
little spot. And then if that's not enough for Mister
and Missus Claus, they also walk around and course, you know,
take pictures with everybody. Then we have children's activities that
will have We have gingerbread ornament making, wreath making, friendship bracelets,
(11:53):
stained glass lantern making, so I think that's going to
be really fun. For games, we have a snowball toss
and we also have iglue putting, so you're gonna get
to come out and do put putt in an iglue.
We then have family activities, the wagon rides, the gingerbread
cookie decorating, ornament decorating, and then this year new is
a jingle and bling and so instead of face painting,
(12:16):
we're going to decorate our hair. We're going to either
put blingy little diamond things in it or we're going
to put jingle bells in it. So I think it's
going to be fun, something a little bit different. We're
trying to talk my husband into doing it. We think
he'd be really cute. And the bling. If you're coming
out there for the food, I think we're gonna have
(12:37):
amazing holiday treats and eats. We have our traditional gluevine,
our European hot cocoa, warm apple cider, all of the
European sweet treats. We have a lot of warm seasonal favorites.
Parade Dome, we'll be making a lot of delicious food.
We'll have nothing but cakes, and a lot of other
vendors that will be joining us too. And then for
(12:58):
those who came last year, they got to to meet
the Chris Kind Angel, which is something that's very special.
It's just an opportunity to meet the beloved Chris Kind
Angel that brings holiday chair and she's just adorned in
this beautiful outfit and she's very kind and she likes
to go and greet children and talk to families, and
so that's kind of Chris Kendlemarket in a very quick.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Nuts yell, very quick nutshell.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
There's obviously a lot more, but it is November twenty
eight through thirtieth, four to nine pm. Daily and again
very magical to share because we're partnering with Woolla Rock
and we couldn't be more excited, and it's.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Going to be a great year. It's going to be
a great year. Unfortunately we are out of time. Okay,
that's just the way it works sometimes. But again, Marylyn,
Mim and Madlin, thank you so much for doing your
internship with us and with Okay this year. All right,
thank you, ladies, thank you so much. News is next.
