(00:02):
The house among the mists was sohappy that he no longer cared about the
shadows that went through the window ofhis room every night with the intention of
catching him and taking him to theother side with them, nor the agonizing
screams that sounded around him every timehe closed his eyes trying to sleep.

(00:22):
He didn' t even care aboutthe deep pain he felt when he reminded
himself of contemplating the death of hiswonderful wife and six- year- old
son, the best of the children, when they were crushed under the ruins
of that old hut that on oneof his Sunday walks appeared among mists,

(00:43):
where before there was nothing. Thesun awoke, shimmering in the mist that
you sighed, sighing behind it withthe birth of that reddish sky for a
whitish moment. Another waited with asmile and went to prepare the family breakfast.
Not every day they could spend timetogether, but family breakfast was something

(01:04):
they had never refused. That washis moment, the one that filled the
little family with happiness by sharing dreamsand desires sorrows and joys. He saw
his son run down the hall towardhim and rip his waist off by giving
him the good morning. He shuffledhis hair and kissed him on the crown

(01:25):
his wife, a nightgown and jacketdiscards as always, left the room,
rubbing his eyes with one hand ashe clung to both sides of the jacket
with the other so as not tocatch cold. They sat at the table
and after serving themselves began to havebreakfast in the monotonous tranquility of banal conversations
and drowsy laughter. But in thatperfect calm, after the usual morning sounds,

(01:48):
something strange began to sound like comingfrom another plane of existence, like
a dark voice in off that uttersno word, just sounds, a whisper,
a hiss, a deep and disturbingexhalation that seemed to come from the
same hell and that only he heard. A cold frost settled on his chest,

(02:13):
creeping all over his being, withsilky invisible fingers tingling on his skin,
causing him to shiver in terror andsuddenly, that pale fog, which
seemed to feed on the rays ofthe sun darkening him more and more for
moments began to infiltrate through the doorsand windows of the closed windows, swallowing

(02:35):
everything that was around him, butnot him. He was plunged into a
limbo, a white ocean that withevery heartbeat snatched more and more each of
the memories of his life and againawoke. He felt cold, very cold
and a sharp pain at the baseof the skull that seemed to absorb him

(02:59):
little by little exists to him or. He could hear behind him on his
head, as if someone sips theliquid from a cup of too hot soup
and suddenly noticed again those soft andtingling fingers, holding him from behind by
the shoulders, holding on to himwith strength and determination, slowly dispacing,

(03:20):
opened his eyes trying not to alterhis breath, trying not to move until
he saw them and too late heknew that there was no salvation possible,
that their lives had come to anend weeks ago, in the face of
his deep despair that he had survivedwhat his beloved family could not visit for

(03:43):
the first time since the accident.Instead of his death. I needed to
be close to them and the desirefor that one feeling did not satisfy us
to observe pictures or bring flowers totheir tombs. I didn' t need
to be with them. So hereturned to that now ruinous place where memories
almost suffocated him, squeezing his heartwith a deadly veil and entered that unbreakable

(04:04):
basement for the first time since thebeginning of his solitude. That basement that
somehow incomprehensible to him, had remainedcompletely intact, despite enduring the weight of
the rest of the house destroyed andwas petrified by contemplating the luminous drawings that
covered the walls and ceiling full ofcolors of dreams of life, and there

(04:29):
they were painted with an incredible realismthat almost seemed to make them jump off
the wall to embrace it. Thenext day he took a cot where the
souls of his family lay in theform of strange but beautiful paintings to rest
near them. And that' swhen he watched with astonishment how the images

(04:51):
changed shape by interpreting the different familyscenes that he so longed for and observing
that changing and hypnotized magic without realizingit, he fell asleep every evening.
Since then he had come there, escaping from the shadows and the screams that
ravaged his nights there in that emptyhome filled now only by the horrors,

(05:16):
his terrible memories and his terrifying nightmares, and closing his eyes in that basement,
that place that lived in the middleof the possible and the impossible.
After lying on the side, onthat uncomfortable mattress, on that bulging pillow,
all sorrows disappeared in an infinite happinessthat filled his cloudy soul with peace

(05:39):
and joy, diving into clear dreamsthat slowly became reality in his mind and
soul. And there he was happilyplunged into broken dreams before being nicked,
merging with his desires before they poisonedhis soul with lies and false hopes impossible

(06:00):
to realize. And now after seeinghis family like that in that old basement,
dirty and dark, stared at thosechairs just like him, with his
head hanging and his gaze lost.He knew it, despite the confusion that

(06:20):
devoured with ferocity, his reason, his sanity by having his family right before
him alive, although he hardly knewit with a certain reluctance. He turned
slowly to observe the being holding himby the shoulders, but a sudden lashe
of pain shook his spine with force, paralyzing it in place, making it

(06:44):
impossible for him to turn again todiscover the face of his captor floating between
dreams on the edge of unconsciousness, walking with slow and stealthy steps between life
and death. While right in frontof him over his head, the being
who held him was sucking again. What he now knew was his very essence,

(07:10):
not his blood. As I hadthought at first. I hadn'
t seen him. He saw itwhen already at the gates of death,
with little strength to breathe even thatbeing who absorbed his life with fervor,
entered his mind again to offer hima new family scene, just before turning
it into a nightmare. Only inthat moment of lucidity. He too was

(07:34):
able to get into his mind anddiscover what he was doing to his family
and he now knew that neither hiswife nor his son had been crushed to
death in the ruins of the oldhouse that appeared out of nowhere. In
fact, he didn' t showup out of nowhere either. The house
had always been there, camouflaged, invisible, until its inhabitant was hungry again

(07:59):
and made it emerge to attract poorunwary ones to absorb their lives. He
had never taken a cot to thatfantasy basement to be close to his missing
family, giving her love from hisliving paintings on the walls. Because that
basement had never existed, because thehouse never collapsed, because everything had been

(08:22):
an illusion. It was seen withinthe mind of the creature that was still
feeding on it. He was seenarriving at a house with his wife and
his little girl dazzling at such amagnificent, albeit seemingly fragile and unstable place,
inspecting the old rooms full of dilapidatedfurniture under the weight of rotting in

(08:46):
his wood. And yes, healso saw the creature exhale a yellowish breath
because of their strange open jaws thatstun them, causing them to fall to
the ground with little knowledge to thencarry them one by one like that underground
basement and chain them to the chairs, causing them to emerge from the beginning

(09:07):
of their throat under what was supposedto be something similar to a human chin,
a strange long and hard sting that, segregating a viscous and ponzoño liquid,
nailed into all of them. Onebehind the other right at the base
of the skull. After looking insidethe head of being I knew how I
thought, I knew how it feltand I knew I was not going to

(09:31):
stop. He had created different memoriesin the minds of each of the members
of the family, snatching from themwhat they loved most and thus leading them
to a state of despair that almostgrazed madness. But then, in some
magical and real way, return tothem again what they had lost and with

(09:52):
it absolute happiness, such pure happinessthat it would have been impossible to achieve
if they had not suffered such terribletrauma before. And after arriving at that
state of euphoria, of absolute satisfactionfor having finally fulfilled his most fervent desire,
that strange and terrifying aberration exit fromthe worst of nightmares. He fed

(10:16):
on those pure feelings that filled hiswhole being with light, but he could
no longer do anything. The lighthad already escaped from him, absorbed by
that creature who had nothing against theman or his family. She was simply
hungry and they had appeared in theright place, at the perfect time and

(10:41):
already when life was coming to anend, just a sigh to determine.
Lo. Last man thought was howsad it was to have to suffer such
a fateful tragedy in order to lovewith total intensity, with absolute intensity,
what he did not believe was possibleto love more fervently. After that he

(11:03):
closed his eyes to the limbo ofwhite fog. His light definitely went out
and the creature passed to the nextvictim.
