Speaker 1 (00:00):

conversation from the Lakers Kings game last night, so we're

the episode and make sure you guys follow us on
all social media platforms. Late Night Lake Show. Let's get
it started.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Jody Good, good to talk to you, bro, Good to
hear from you. Oh much, man? We got who we
got in the building. I know we got Ethan in
the building. We got to fill in the building. About
to get my fourth phill up on here in the
second let me chext Jabbari see if he gonna slide
through tonight. And yeah, we could get into it first.
I wanted to kick things off. Jody Yo, you uh

(00:40):
you you started exactly where I.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Wanted us to.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Let's get into the Jody mcfi l n n LS
almost bets of the evening.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
So what were the picks? And then what happened?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
I had a long parlay, but a lot of attainable shit.
I had Lusavich for six rebounds, he got fourteen, Derek
White for ten points, he got sixteen, Jayleen Brown fifteen,
He got nineteen. Jason Tatum fifteen, he got thirty one.

(01:12):
That's the first part of my parlay. They all cleared
what they needed. Next part, Troy mury or Trey Murphy.
I just bet him to get ten. He's a parlay protector.
You can trust him. He came with twenty eight. Seingou
I just had eight rebounds, he had nine, and then
Jalen Green I bet him that have fifteen points. He

(01:34):
had thirty four. Jalen Johnson of the Hawks. I put
him down for fifteen. He has nineteen. Bro Victor with me,
Victor with me. This is where the this is where
it gets broken. I put weinby for eight rebounds. Bro
not ten, but eight he has six.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Is the game over.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
It's a minute and forty two.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
He's seven before he'll he'll play under the basket man.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
You know that.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Everybody else is clear. Grady Dick, he had he cleared.
He is Kate cuneham Shay and then well, no, this
one wasn't do work. As John Moran he only got nine,
and then kd and Booking here for twenty they both
are go clear that so that's easy money. But you
can't these niggas b how are you seven four and

(02:27):
you have six rebounds?

Speaker 5 (02:28):
But what are we talking about?

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Folks?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
They got mold folks, say, get off my lawn, Ricky.
You're an old man asking for your giants to play
in the post and get all the rebounds, and get
all the blocks and get all the dunks. It's too
much to ask at twenty twenty four. I'm not supposed
to assign labels to a second point. You play basketball.

(02:53):
I'm not supposed to assume that you act like a
big man.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Hey, bro, Steph Curry just finished the game with two points,
all for seven.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
He didn't make a field goal.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Two points.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
That's two more points than us tonight, gentlemen, I feel
good about that.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
I can make two.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Really, I can't even say I did.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
I went one for four from the free throw line
tonight just to get on the court.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
You missed four free you.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Did, I missed three.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
So I had two times to get on the first court,
clanked them both, then shots to get on your team,
and made it on the last one. And that's how
it started my evening. It went up from there. From
the ship we did. We did get to dog in
them a little bit.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
We have to dog them a little until until our
gas tanks got on.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Jody, Bro, Jody like you would have been proud of you. Boy.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
For about the first hour and ten minutes of the night,
it was good. It was like I walk back out
on the court. The medi was nice. The face of game.
I looked like KG out there. Man, I felt one
cramp calf, Bro. I turned into an ice skater talk.
I was in the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Out there, folks hit me with one dribble and then
yanked it back. I was I got I have to pull.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
That video low key because he pulled.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Me dropping off. Folks. You ain't pulling that.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
You two wolves that were crazy. One would do as
you spinning on. I was nuts.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Spinning around, Bro, because I think I can close it round.
He went through fucking New Mexico. After I spun, I
was like, oh, this is nasty. Joy Line extended hit
it with the drive. I was beat, so I tried
to go. I saw he he yanked it back. So
I did a quick little turn and I thought I recovered.
Then he took an additional step. Bro, not even close.

(04:56):
Didn't man like that.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Damn, Hey, we didn't been there.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
Man, if you go, if you play defense. You go
get god eventually.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah somebody, Oh, I forgot that. Martin Brosen was, uh.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Hey, Martha Rosen is good for fifteen points on fandom.
I'm just telling you. They pretend he will no you down, Evan.
That's nasty though.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Is that not nasty though?

Speaker 6 (05:31):
That's what he was advertised at seven four KD and
he said he's going to be KD.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
You don't want to play down low, man, Maron.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
That's just that's stupid. You er, You hindering yourself doing that.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
I think he just thinks he gonna get hurt if
you play down load all that bumping and banging.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
He just wants to You can get hurt doing all
that shooting in the perimeter. Your long ass, somebody come down.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
You come up right.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
That ain't been the face of health his career. The
fuck yeah, like the only iron Man besides it, besides back.
Once he got that straightened out.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
Man, you can't play sports like that. You can't play
sports like I'm trying not to get it.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Like, oh my god, gosh, Max helping out his future team.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
That was in the chat For those that missed it.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
On the previous show, I predicted that Max Christy's gonna
end up a Sacramento King in line with this fellow
what I call a cross flex.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
From the Kings.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
I what Fox I want, Daron, I know it, but
hear me out.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Mike Brown was talking crazy crazy about his I guess
he's the second best player on the team now with
the bonus.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
But he was like, oh, Darren gott to step up.
And I mean, I get it.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
You're a coach. You're allowed to say that. Ship when
we were playing, that is normal talk. Coach is calling
you out, but you can't. I don't think you could
do that now, especially with Mike Brown. You ain't like
you ain't Gandhi out there. You ain't Phil Jackson. So no,
we might not be around if the Kings fall off
again this year.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
I'll be honest. Martin Rose is not what they needed.
I don't know, kind of a ball stopper.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
He killed air really fast paced game.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
I feel like they got him because it was musical
chairs and it was like we need to get somebody.

Speaker 6 (07:18):
Yeah, they got him on a good deal. They had
to give nothing up for him, like just kind of
just came over. But I don't think he was the
player that they needed for their team, and I think
it's showing because they're kind of trash.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
They're taking a basketball team right now. I mean, I
guess we're not really either, but you know we need
the ass.

Speaker 6 (07:35):
Right now, we're up a school twenty to fourteen on
the finals left.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
In the fourth quarter, Assius hit a three.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
He just hit Yeah, So what do you guys? What
are you guys? How are you feeling now? What are
we like about a quarter and some change in? What
are you thinking? What are you looking for as far
as the trade is concerned, or to really get this
team to a place where we can reasonably even entertain

(08:05):
the line.

Speaker 6 (08:07):
Yeah, right now we're sitting at the Tennessee two games
over five hundred, the Clippers, Warriors. There's some ass teams
in front of us. To be honest with you, they.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Bro, like, let's just call it the buck.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Like the old men are at the bottom of the
West right now. I mean not like the bottom feet
or bottom, but like.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
What it is, I said, they might as well be
man these niggas. So Steph just cranked in a two
point game, bro as an adult, right, Brian barely got
ten points the other day? What was that two weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
Yeah, he's struggling.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
He was really pushing, but hey, he looked good since
he took that little break.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
He sure did that quote unquote little little rest and
relaxation at the same bro, I can't talk Shitron got
a foot thing.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I get it, I get it. Don't go away. It
just won't as much as I tried to.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Don't be like Deonna Sanders when.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
In American sports history cannot keep toes on his foot
because of feet injuries. It's that serious dog and that's
what scares the ship out of me. Like she can
get treacherous if you let it keep getting worse.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
And they say, they figure, hey, man, you know, if
I'll deal with it when I'm doing, you're gonna be
retired longer than you as a player. Now, Deonna Sanders
still got another thirty years to walk around with down there,
three toes one.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Walk around like a billy. Go bro, he's still primed.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
But like you got three toes.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
One, you got three toes.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
They just took it right off walking around.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Kevin m Kevin mckill, that boy is he's just pieces
of blue together.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
At this point, she's still with us.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah, yeah, okay, Okay, I ain't know if anything like that.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Oh no, no, no, he's running.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
He's definitely in the seventies. Okay, he gotta be up there.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
But he always looked like, I mean, his shoulders look
like he got a co anger this shirt. He always
looked a little gad like a little crazy.

Speaker 7 (10:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
I mean in terms of a trade, Bro, to be honest,
we need, we need to We need some We just
need some some some dogs, man, some I need.

Speaker 5 (10:35):
We need a guard, a defensive guard. We can use
a wing. Wiki's a big wig. He's all three. To
be honest with you.

Speaker 6 (10:43):
Our bench depth is nothing. That is nothing to celebrate
about the rock whatever it is. We need to do something.
The roster as is, I don't see getting it done.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Man.

Speaker 6 (10:53):
We had too many defensive liabilities. A D has to
clean up everything. We don't have a rotation of serviceable bigs.
It's it's a little tough out here, man. Like I said, offensively,
I think this team is fine, but defensively it's bad.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Man.

Speaker 6 (11:08):
We're not winning no championships playing playing no defense.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
So I think that's acknowledge that for you, Like you
probably got a da over there in Indiana. Bro, there's
a lot of a lot of yapping, but no actual
rutfulness to it. I mean you also the rumors that

(11:34):
Colin Sexton would be a target for Lakers if they
do something like Colin Sexton and Walker Kessler to l
a that kind of checks the box. That was the
big checks the box with just your scrappy guy.

Speaker 7 (11:49):
I know how much he loves small guards in the playoffs,
but you know, I think he does about that excuse me,
game to game energy that this team, while yeah they're
not the old easier Lakers like they were you know
too and years ago, they don't have a younger guy
that loves defense.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Right like Max does. But like that kind of begetting
ate up to a lot, right, Like.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Liking defensive trying really hard is half that right to be.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
A star Wars.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
So I don't know, man, I would love somebody young
and iren to come in and you know, add that
off event mark from game to game, you know, diving
on the floor and all that cool.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Stuff, and we're gonna get I don't see us getting
a what.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
The hell just happened? Oh back up, they couldn't get
over half for that is the sign. But yeah, I'd
like college. I don't think it's all all the Lakers
problems Walker or not them away from the camp.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Funniest hell if cold of Sexton trades said Lakers. I
remember Colin Sexton got drafted Calves the year came to
the Lakers, but he was when he got drafted, he
was like, come on, man, we can go back to
the finals.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Like a couple of days later, Lebron is like, all right,
but I don't want l A And it's like seven
years later now, yep.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
I'll be honest, I don't I think the trade. If
there is a trade that happens, I don't think it's
gonna be one this rumor. Man, the Lakers have never
made a trade since in this Lebron a D era
that was rumored to happen, except for the a D trade.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
That was the only trade that was rumored that actually happened.

Speaker 6 (13:42):
The other player we were linked to, we never got
Bunny Hill, Les Turner, all them boys we never gotten.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
It's always I'll.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Be okay with Valentinis if we can get Valentinis, which
is like, you know, it's possibility. I know he didn't
seem like anytime we didn't play them a few times
in the past. He didn't lit it up like everybody
else does when they play the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
But yeah, because the Lakers have an Anthony Marshawn David Jr.
That makes because like Jonas valancenis not look very good
as a center. But I guess you got to take
it from the the bigger because I'd be caught up
in the moment too when folks talk about getting him
and how much he did to the rosters court, in
the in the back court or in the front court.

(14:25):
Excuse me, but I watched the games and eighty eats
them a lot, right, But then you kind of gotta go,
all right, Not every team has an Anthony Davis, so
I probably got to watch more film on him. But
he's one of those names that's starting to creep into
We're hearing about him a little bit more than we
probably should.

Speaker 8 (14:46):
Big, Hey, what's going on, guys. I'm on a cell phone,
so the quality might be ship but we're.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Hey, everybody, it's post production quality here. Just dropping in
a little tidbit. As you just heard Phil say, he's
on a cell phone, so he may have some quality issues.
He did, so you'll notice some points later in the
podcast where it appears that Phil may have been talking
and that's kind of just cut out and you'll seem
like it may be skipping around. That is intentional. Do
not be alarmed. We just cut out some of the

(15:14):
audio issues that he was having. But otherwise, y'all continue
to enjoy the podcast.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 9 (15:21):
This is my this is my work, groom.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
I've got a lot of it is an impressive Phil
where Yeah.

Speaker 9 (15:29):
New Haven, Connecticut.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Because I thought you said you was from Dayton.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
I thought you was.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
Did you say you used to stay in Dayton or
you know Dayton?

Speaker 9 (15:39):
Yeah, yeah, I grew up in Dayton in West Carleton.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
You went to West carost Actual.

Speaker 9 (15:45):
Yeah, you said you was from Kettering, right, Well, I.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Was living in Kentering back then, but I went to.

Speaker 9 (15:49):
Try Oh okay, yeah, wait, our kicked in football.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Right, you know on the on the on the Hey, bro,
I didn't realize that.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Yeah that's crazy, but that's cool, man.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
But yeah, man, let's let.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
The Lakers are white away from this and not just
looking like the death March the mediocrity again what.

Speaker 9 (16:17):
It's always been.

Speaker 8 (16:18):
It's a big mm hmm like and here's the thing
from from the time that he got he especially those
since we've seen Lebronze start dake a little bit. This
team is always best when Anthony David is the best
player that happened has the guy he needs to be

(16:39):
able to be guarding the primary.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
So they got you, uh, they got you in the
face right now, right now. But now I'm starting to
get every fifth word.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
Your video is really good, though.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
I was wondering if here like I was, because I
was like, damn coming through like.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
A broken connection. Phil, let's do it.

Speaker 8 (17:02):
But just like when Anthony Davis is guarding your kitchen
crunch time, we're gonna get beat because we're not using
Anthony Davis.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
And exactly Phil, I agree. They just keep they're doing
you dirty right.

Speaker 5 (17:21):
Now, super chopping here like.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
They'll give They'll give Phil the first seconds enough for
you to be hooked. They just loading.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Get well, man, brother, We'll get you in for for
a U bites commentary because it seems like the longer
you talk, the more he's doing your dirty.

Speaker 9 (17:41):
I'll keep it quippy. That'll be fun.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Yeah. Legs Up thirty five, twenty four fifteen.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
In the First You Got Evils, Valancoutis at the Free
throw line.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I get old boys name what Alex Yeah, evil.

Speaker 10 (18:00):
Bastardly he looked like one of these like Jokic cousins
or some ship like just from whatever sector of eastern
Europe where they just make seven footers for no reason.

Speaker 5 (18:14):
I mean, also, it feels onto something.

Speaker 6 (18:16):
I mean, you saw in the Olympics when Ad got
to play next to Bam. And you know, obviously Bam
is a great defender and it's all right, but when
a d gets to Rome man he is he is,
it's different. He's a very very different defender when he
when he's locked down in the paint, having a guardy,
very talented big you know, that's not playing to all
of his strengths.

Speaker 11 (18:36):
I will absolutely bron Delo got to get his bucket.

Speaker 5 (18:47):
Man need him to look good for the trades. Need
look good for the trade.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Mark D'Angelo will be playing in what eight and hopefully
New York like like Brooklyn.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Yeah, you.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
And Brooklyn was the best time in his life. He
might as well go back.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah that was his only All Star nod.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yeah, my barber Dansel Russell will be an All Star
one day, and sure enough he wasn't alternate that year.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
But he made it, he was there, he played the game.

Speaker 6 (19:26):
They traded him for Kevin Durant, which uh, okay, he
was going anyway.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
That's fair. Lakers traded him for Brook Lopez and then
why shout yeah, no, shoutout magic.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
I really think that he's probably like I think Dangel
Russell is most likely.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Like it's kind of righting. It's almost like I have
to write now practice.

Speaker 9 (19:58):
Like Emotionally, I feel bad too, because I always believed
in Dillo and I was happy when he came back.
But it's it is what it is, like he yeah,
it has to go in that back.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
Unfortunately, he was great the first year he was on
the Lakers when we got him back. It's the Western conferences,
really good games in the playoffs. That's a bad games
of the playoffs too, especially against Denver. But in the
first two rounds he's phenomenal. So I get it.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
But unfortunately he'll always he'll always have those shots against
Denver when we were down six, I think, and he
made them threes back to I mean not Denver Memphis.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Because the series happened in the first.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
One, right, that was He'll have that moment forever, like
that was a hell of us. That was a hell
of the moment.

Speaker 8 (20:50):
And I will also always remember the original Ice in
my veins in Brooklyn. Yes, like that made that made
me feel something for the first time in several years.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
With that like that, No, Bil that is a great
point also gave at the butther.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Also, D'Angelo Russell's impact on pop culture transcends any of
his basketball career, and pops probably have well forgotten that
he is the first one to do to you know,
the hand to the arm, and that was the ice

(21:30):
in my vein celebration. Now everybody just does it. They
don't even say ice in my veins now they the
kids are saying sheesh or some something, right, like, I
don't know how we hear ice in my veins sheh.
But like you see, as soon as he came back
to the Lakers, they went right back to the same celebration.
So yeah, I think I hope he gets credit. That's

(21:54):
probably is probably gonna be on a trivia pursuit question
in twenty forty five of who are first?

Speaker 3 (21:59):
What Laker first? Originated the ice in my vein celebration.

Speaker 9 (22:03):
My grandkids about that, They're gonna put me to bed.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Right right, what's that, Granddad? You need the good stuff?
I be again.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
Yeah, to be honest, I think him and uh, I
mean all the how they're gonna trade j but I
mean he's now inspiring as well.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
So I think every expiring you have to trade it.
You let them walk for nothing.

Speaker 9 (22:24):
That is bad.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
They basically just gave up a first round pick with Yes,
NBA won't want to shot gun his man.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
Hey, what's going on y'all?

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Ricky with Late Lake Show Real Quick, just wanted to
send some flowers, send some love to one of our
a one day ones friends of the show prize picks.
They've been rocking with us since this account and this
whole operation was in its infancy way before we have
grown to the production that we are here today, and
we can't thank them enough for believing in the engine

(22:56):
that is Ellen Ls. And to show our love, got
a new promo code for y'all. Type in the promo

Speaker 3 (23:34):
That kid is not having fun going on. Wow, bro,
I get it. Look the young kid chilling.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
It's always a little always the younger sister that that's straight,
while the big brother be freaking the hell out. That's
my life in my household these days, gianna be bullying
my two year o, will be bullying my six year old. Man, Jody,
I don't know what your setup is for your half games, but.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
These kids is, bro. They got me ready to pull
on my damn hair and just hey, I understand, I understand,
I understand it.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
Now, I understand it now.

Speaker 9 (24:18):
Oh I didn't have a single gray hair.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
No dead ads. Yeah, you got them on now.

Speaker 9 (24:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (24:29):
My five year old looked at me the other day
when I was picking her up and I was like, wow, dad,
your hair is like all gray now.

Speaker 9 (24:37):
I was like, yeah, thanks, thank you.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
All right, you're walking home, dude, I like, yeah, all right.
Part of the start of the second quarter, like it's
thirty eight. But this had a future. We can get
the stats up to the side. Uh, I just make
that up.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
I had lives a much.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Actually, yeah, I have no idea.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
That's so did y'all see what Nick Wright said about
the n Season Tournament. Now, he was just saying, since
Lebron won it in the first season and cared about it,
and since Johannis won it this year and cared about it,

(25:25):
it's gonna be what. It's one of those things that
great players gotta have on their resumes.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
Now, yeah, it's gonna it's gonna turn into that.

Speaker 6 (25:32):
We're gonna be talking like ten fifteen years when you're
talking about players. NBA Cup championships and the NBA Cup m
vps are gonna mean something.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
I think I think so too, because it's gonna be like,
you know what, we we gotta go ahead and go
to Vegas and get this little, this little trophy, because
how you don't really get to win too many trophies.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Honestly, right, right, that is very that's a fair point.
Ethan says. Jordan doesn't of an n Season Tournament championship.

Speaker 6 (26:03):
True, and the Lakers won the first one ever. Yeah,
you go through the history books you scroll for the
very first one you go see Lakers.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
I mean that's kind of that's kind of legitimizing, honestly,
if we're just if we're being honest about it.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
If the Charlotte Hornets won the first NC in the tournament,
nobody would give a ship.

Speaker 5 (26:23):
Yep.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
I mean they acted like they didn't care. If the
Lakers one, they acted like they didn't care. Like I said,
it'll mean something later.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Oh oh, while I got it fresh on my mind
and I got you here, Phil, wanted to get your
thoughts on this. So this whole ratings debate personally for
you or how how was the.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
The entertainment of this league landing for you?

Speaker 2 (26:50):
And then do you actually think that it's a product
problem that is needing to be addressed as soon as possible.

Speaker 8 (26:59):
I think it's product and marketing, Like I've heard people
say that inside the problem, and it's hard not to
argue that in terms of public image, like when you've
got people that are household names that everybody respects shitting
on the game on anas literally it's great.

Speaker 9 (27:17):
Entertainment, it's e laite television.

Speaker 8 (27:20):
But in terms of you know, how the lead markets
itself for the program is not play look, but it is.
I think it's also on court issues as well, because
they get like game perimeter oriented and it's been that
way for a little while in the league because they
want to drive up points on the theory that points

(27:43):
more entertaining.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Boy were they wrong.

Speaker 9 (27:45):
But yeah, they've discovered worldview now and it's just time
for for.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
That's like, if it got to a point where the
average football game was fifty to fifty, I think it
would damage the sport. Defense would have gone so far
away that you just expected. I was thinking about this
earlier that I feel like a basketball might be trending

(28:15):
to a.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Sport like and hear me out with this with like
you know in.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Men's softball leagues, how there's a home run limit, like
and you have to put a governor on these people
because it's going to be easy to hit this softball
nine thousand feet right after a couple of beers, and
this is all I.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Have to worry about doing.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
They're like, no, you only get X number of game
home runs after that be a baseball player. I wonder
if the NBA is kind of seeing that with three
point shooting, Like obviously they figured out shoot more threes.
Even if you make less of a percentage of threes,
it's still better than shooting twos and making a slightly

(28:59):
better percent When nobody really calculated was.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
This ship's horrible to look at. Like we said earlier,
I don't want my seven foot four.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
Giants acting like there's Steph Curry and Kevin like And
I'll put Kevin Duran his own corner because I've said
it before.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
He is a unicorn and I think.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Has brainwashed all these big men Bowl Bowls, mobombas that
they need to start outside and have a career.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
But I don't know, Like somebody.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Said that they suggested that we should put a limit
on three pointers a game.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
I don't hate it. I don't hate it.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
You can't put that to face back in the tube, man.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
I don't know if the solution was the solution point one.
I don't think back of it up makes that. He's like,
you get rid of the I don't know how much
that actually makes it. There's probably someone does, but I
don't know.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
You can't the solution. Let people defend that's the point.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
That's the only thing. That's the other things you can do,
because that's the essence of basketball is letting people play defense.
So you might got to overcorrect a little bit and
let guys play more defense, but you can't change the
three point line. You can't put a limit because what
happens is that what happens is you're you're basically delegitimizing

(30:21):
the numbers that guys get going forward, and then you
do legitimizing the numbers that guys got in the past,
because if you change the three point rule or the
amount of threes in theory, you're just changing the spirit
of teams philosophies, you know what I'm saying, And you
can't really do that. But if you allow guys to
actually play defense, the offenses are gonna adjust to you

(30:46):
know what I'm saying, What what what what they're doing.
But it's one of those things they're like, it's just
gonna go ahead, to go in the cycle. And I
think a lot of it is honestly overblown because we
don't live in a time where ratings are just like
the same, because there's so many different things people are

(31:06):
on the go like and people can still tap into
the games in different ways. People can watch clips, you
know what I'm saying, People like people like, it's not
it ain't like people just sitting down at eight o'clock
watching Michael Jordan on WGN like it like this is
this is not that in twenty twenty four, Like these

(31:29):
guys all got their own brands, they all like these
kids watch these guys get dressed before they go to
the game, like and behind their little in their little
TikTok shit like this. Everybody has a Potts. It's completely different.
So people think, oh, he's not watching the game. Well,
he may not watch the game, but this guy is
tapped into the podcast after the game. This guy's tapped

(31:52):
into Draymond's podcast after the game. But that view that
listen doesn't count towards the TV you know what I'm saying,
And the ratings that these TV shows get, How does
that not count to the ratings for the sport when
they're talking about the players, Like these things have to
evolve as time goes on in the world, you know

(32:14):
what I'm saying, Like the world that we living changes.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Basically I can agree with that.

Speaker 5 (32:19):
I think there's a lot of truths here.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
I think there's truth exactly what you said, Jody, that
people can tap in in many different ways.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
I feel there's.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
Truth that the three pointers are a bit much. I
think there's also truth. The NBA is a marketing issue.
It really is, because I think and I want to
touch on the marketing part because I actually really resonate
with that part. I think the NBA struggles because again,
they market players over teams. The NFL doesn't have that
same problem. The NFL markets teams are players are just whatever.

(32:48):
But you know, people are fans of teams more than
the players. You know, the name on the front of
the jersey means more than the back. The NBA is
the opposite, and we see that with a lot of
these younger stars that nobody can quite grab that mantle.
That's why still in twenty twenty four, the biggest draws
in the sport are the old guys, the Lebron James,
the Steph Currys, the Kevin Durantz. These new guys can't

(33:10):
grap it because they're not as marketable. These Europeans don't
care to be celebrities like that, so they don't want it.
