Today we got our playback episode recap, just conversation of
the guys talking through the Wizard's Lakers game on January
twenty first, twenty twenty five. We want to thank y'all

Let's get it the Lakers Wizards. So we got a
few things to talk about.

I mean, obviously, the first order of business is the
DFS injury designation. What almost a month into him being
a Laker, you know, just another day in Lakerland with
the injury reports.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
And yeah, hiding it, not hiding it.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
So apparently this has all been a prolonged rehab stint
working his way back into game shape, which the Lakers
said today, Hey, we're gonna start removing some of those restrictions.
So it's nothing that y'all need to worry about. Ethan,
I guess I'll throw it to you first. That is
that concerning? Is that not concerning? Is this just fucking hilarious?

I mean, if he plays the whole extra what they say,
like five to seven minutes or something, I mean, if
he plays that extra minutes and it keeps playing those minutes,
and I don't have a problem with it, but if
you know, it turns out two games from now he
ends up sitting and then he started again.

I'm gonna be wondering why we even traded him.

Right on brand with the Lakers injury staff, and the
report is being who knows, we never get updates on
injured players. There's always some sort of setback. We never
really know what's going on with our players. This feels

working through his ankle injury. I don't know, man, it's

You know, I wouldn't necessarily called a vandal the three
and d like dfs is, but they're both on the
defensive end, and we saw what Van Do could do
went healthy against premier offensive players in this league. We're
kind of just sitting with the two cars and both
of them got problems, and it's like, when we get
him fixed though, Hey, that's gonna be a nice little setup,

So well, I mean, I know there was reports like
and it's a Lakers, so people are going to talk
anyway that like they weren't probably going to trade him.
But I'm wondering if they're like kind of trying to
act like to him that they're not going to trade him.
So that way, like he plays as well as he
can play, because he takes like it seems like he's
probably someone that wouldn't play well.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
If he knew. Oh yeah, yeah, he definitely play very
well anyway.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
But I just don't know what he's doing on the court.

Sometimes I'm just looking like he just seems genuinely confused
out there, and it's it's bad, but he'll be all right.

I mean, we need, we needed to. I understood that
this kind of random course. I mean I wish the
best of the guys. I like, I wanted that last
shot to go in the other night. I mean I
wanted to win the game, but like I was like, hey,
that'd be nice with that winning for him.

I wish, it would have been like for a tie

I don't see people feel like we should have probably
made a bigger trade for you know, a bigger player,
a third star type player.

Again, we feel like there's components of our team that
we still have not seen in like literally a season

And I know no one likes the zach Lavine contract,
but I'm just talking about a player who's capable of
doing having those kind of performances night in and out.
I mean, some folks with clamoring for brandon Ingram. You know,
you bring him over and he starts, you know, he
keeps going with the injury road. Now you're even more
pissed that that happened. But to be honest, man, I

truly truly think that if this Laker duo of Anthony
Davis and Lebron James want to touch another championship by
the NBA Finals, They're gonna need another name with them
that is about forty percent better than Austin Reeves.

I was just about to saying, do you think Rob
thinks that player is Austin Reeves. I sometimes think that
he really believes that Austin Reeves could.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Be might get there, but like Bron's gonna not be
able to hardly play. It's kind of hard. Like he'll
still be good, but like it might be like fifteen
minutes a good.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Yeah. I love Austin. I love what he brings.

I actually think he's a very very good player.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
But you're talking win now, can Austin Reeves really be
your third best player on the championship team?

Speaker 1 (13:59):
I don't think he there yet.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
I don't think he's thats WHI he shouldn't be the
best player you can't on Knights. But he's kind of
like one of those guys that feels like the gaps. Yeah,
he's not the guy like and he will some Knights,
but he's not going to get you, like to a
high seed in the regular season.

And I guess that's one of the things that that brings.
The question to me is since you have a player
like Austin Reeves who currently handles the ball probably the
most on the team at this point, he kind of
controls the offense.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
He's kind of been the engine.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
How do you bring a player in without moving him out,
like could he go back to playing off the ball,
Like I feel like the style he plays, the way
they've kind of positioned him, I don't you almost have
to send him out if you're gonna bring somebody in,
you know, Like, I don't know how he would fit
on this team because he's high usage on our team,

like very like he's a very high usage player. Lebron's
usage and especially on ball isn't as much when he
shares the floor with Austin Reeves, say with Anthony Davis.
So if you bring in another starish type player, you
almost have to send Reeves out.

Right, uh ye, Like I'm not gonna be selfish or
Laker Homer to get it a deal deal done?

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Probably probably right.

You go to the Bulls who've been trying to, I
guess trade Zach Levine for two years, and we put
a package together that started with Austin Reeves and then
made the money make sense. You can you can tell
the Chicago Bulls we're giving you our third best player,
and it be true. Yeah, you know, and then you start,
you know, to make the money work. You probably got

throwing the ruys you got, you know, it would be
a package that the Bulls can look like and be like, oh,
we these aren't bad players that we got back, right.
But you know, so in that sense, I think Austin
may have to be that big bait to go big
game hunting.

But at the same time, right, let's say that the
Lakers can pull a rabbit out of their hat and
get a player of that next level caliber. And I'm
just saying Zach Lavine kind of as the example. Somebody
who is close to Zach Levine's you know output, night
in and night out, capable of doing it, right, But

I think Austin could do pretty well coming off the
bench and being your your main ball handler, right, I
think he can control an offense. Obviously, Austin does a
lot better when he has another really good player on.

He gets a little scary when he's out there with
a bunch of bums. But at the same time, I
think that's what you build rotations around so that they're
not always so staggered, especially with a third I'm going
to call them all star level caliber player. Yeah, just
the report just came out today that said opposing GM's
are you know, calling the Lakers front office, like not
