Speaker 1 (00:00):
Lena Lax Show. It's Ricky, it's Jody. We are joining
y'all on a Tuesday, November eleventh year of Our Lord
twenty twenty five with a little bit of breaking at news.
While the Los Angeles Lakers are off to a blazing
eight and three start, Sham Sharania has reported today that
the Dallas Mavericks have fired general manager Nico Harrison after
a three and eight abysmal start. Jody and I are

(00:24):
just going jump right into it. We're here for a
good time, not a long time, obviously, Jody. You know,
Nico is the catalyst, right Nico and Rob of this
Luca Doncas trade. And you know, I think this was
probably going to be the end result if the MAVs
didn't start off hot and look successful and Cooper Flagg
didn't look all worldly. But at the end of the day,

(00:47):
after eleven games, Nico Harrison is looking for new employment.
Your immediate reaction to the breaking news of the day.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Nico's been a dead man walking since the trade went down,
and it was just accelerated with how things when afterwards
not and a lot of stuff. It's not his fault,
you know. I think we've all heard like little insinuations
or rumors of why they made the deal or what
prompted Luca Donci's trade. And obviously a lot of people

(01:19):
think it was above Nico's head. He just is the
one that has to wear the actual blood on his
hands because he's the one that has to calling the deal,
so to speak. So I think it's something that we
all kind of seen coming. But it's just one of
those things where it's like, dang. But Nico's a very

(01:41):
respected person in the basketball community, has been for a
long time, So I don't think that this thing is
going to look like a reflection of him in my opinion.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Let's speaking of wait inside note, do you got peaceful
music playing in the background? You catching your zamback? Deav?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I was, that's funny. Is that that's actually my TV?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
That's funny. I was like, Okay, Jody's looks real, real
peaceful life.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
No, it's all good shot. Keep it going. I like it.
You got Monk Jody giving his opinions on the Nico
Harrison job. I mean, like, you know, that's definitely glass
hat full and that's the reality, right. I think there
is the public opinion on Nico Harrison that he is,
you know, incapable of doing this job, any job now
in the future forever. He should just be shunned, you know,

(02:31):
out of the country right or out of society. Then
there's the reality that Nico Harrison is, you know, respected
in his circles long time, like he except you know,
he was one of Kobe's guys, one of Kyrie's closest
guys to to shoot. Anthony Davis and Nico Harrison are
extreme the coat close. They were on a lot of
those Team USA teams together. And so Nico Harrison's gonna

(02:54):
land on his feet, right, He'll He'll you didn't necessarily
know his name before the Maverick job. You didn't really
think about him too much unless he was making trades
like for Kyrie and now the Lukadas trade, right, and
you'll go back to not knowing about him. And unfortunately,
I think this is what he's going to be known

(03:14):
for for the rest of his life, is that he's
the guy that traded Luka doncas So. I don't I
don't think he gonna ever shake that one. Nah.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
It's funny as hell because he's gonna always be known
as that guy now it's funny because it's a it's
so wild that the world's will collide because it's a
I'm a Steelers fan, Steelers training camp. I go to
the Steelers training camp every year. This year it was
a picture of Nico Harrison with some of the coaches

(03:46):
of the Steelers. Because you know what I'm saying, he
got Nike connects. I'm sure he probably knows somebody or
maybe he's a Steeler fan and you know whoever, and
they got him behind the scenes and in the picture
everybody it went viral. I'm pretty sure we can get
like Brendan or somebody to clip this up.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
You're talking about this one.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Right, Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
They're just staring at you, man.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
They just staring at him like crazy. This is in Latrolle, Pennsylvania. Bro.
When I tell you, like, oh yeah, Aaron, that's Aaron,
and I think that's a Crime's coach.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
All three just straight ass faces. Man. He looking like
Nikka what I don't conder what you're saying, Like how
did you trade Luka doncic He looked like he telling
the biggest lie right now to the rest of these, bro,
and Aaron just stole on them, like I can't believe
he lied to my face right now.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
And when you when you look at games like last night,
it's like Luca dunk last.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Night, right right, second dunk of the season.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Luca duck last night. It flexed on the ref. The
ref had the respect just on the strength and did
not even call it a technical because it's like, you
know what, I'm gonna let you get that off because
you actually done. Bro go ahead, like, how could.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
You do that?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
How could you do such a thing?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
I think there's a few ways of a few layers
of why. We'll look back on this entire trade and
just never get any resolution as to why, except for
it was probably out of Nico Harrison's hands. And he

(05:32):
is just the fall guy, right if you put your
tinfoil caps on, all right, yeah, there's he is just
the fall guy in this scenario. So because if you
slice it any other way, blaming Luca's weight, saying he's
not in shape, that he's not serious as a competitor,
blaming his leadership, his defensive lack of intensity, it's it's tough,

(05:57):
and while some of that can be true, that's Luca
fucking docs man. He's averaging thirty eight right now for
the Lakers. Jojija said he dunk twice. He ain't dunk
at all when he was out of the Lakers last season. Man,
if all that took was some P ninety X and
some high intensity hit training, I think you hold on

(06:20):
to the generational talented offensive player had.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Not even twenty six. I don't think he was twenty
six when he got traded.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
And you're not trading him when he's thirty four, You're not.
You are punting his prom you are choosing not to
sign up for his prime, and you traded four. And
God bless him. I love him. I was reminiscing about
him yesterday when I saw one of my tweets pop
up that went to the Charlotte Hornets game. That was
the last Anthony Davis game that he actually finished in

(06:49):
a Laker uniform, forty twenty game. He you know, uh
got injured the next game and then he was shipped
off to Dallas. And you know, unfortunately for AD, the
injuries has still continue to pile up. What is it,
fourteen games he's played since he's been traded. He's got
achilles tendonitis. Photos are coming out that he might be
b B l a D like Nico. This is really

(07:11):
really bad that the All Star who hadn't even touched
the peak of his powers yet you traded blamed it
on him being out of shape. And now your guy
you traded for is out of shape and hurt. You're
gonna lose your job. You're just gonna lose your job.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Man, You're gonna lose that one. And you gotta you gotta.
He's gotta bite that bullet. You gotta bite that bullet
and just understand that. Hey man, these things happen. And
like we said, he gonna land on his feet. But
you know it's sex that I Ree's knee just went
to hill, you know what I'm saying, Because that wasn't

(07:53):
how things were supposed to go Kyrie and Ad was
supposed to being Cooper. I don't know how people feeling
about Cooper Flag. I think I think the reviews are
very mixed about Cooper Flag. He might be good or great.
This is gonna be tough. I'm interested to see what's
next or how it is discussed basically nationally, now that

(08:17):
it's over, what do you think the overaging message is
gonna be? Do you think do you think Cooper Flag
is gonna be end up being salvageable enough to justify
the trade.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Uh no, no, I mean that answer we can pretty
much guarantee right now, like Luca Johnson, if he stopped playing,
is a top fifty, top twenty five talent to ever
touch a basketball, right, Cooper Flag is a really dope
Unicorn player right now. But as we saw that he's
in the elks of the eighties, he's in the elks

(08:52):
of the kg's right. He has a very valuable skill
set on the NBA court, But there's a difference between
what he represents and what like a Kad represents, And
we're talking about similar stature and maybe you know, offensive
game if you want to try to compare Cooper's to

(09:13):
more of a wing than a big. But I'm a
big Cooper Flag fan, man. Like when he came in,
I had high hopes and I still have high hopes
for him. I mean, shoot, it's okay to struggle coming
into the league, and especially coming into a team that
the head coach puts you next to Anthony Davis and
Derek Lively, Right, you are one of three bigs that

(09:36):
essentially by skill set defensively do similar things and then
offensively right, there's a lot of crossover between you and
theoretically what Anthony Davis could do. So now you're asking
Cooper Flag to what dropped down to be the three? Okay,
Like that's something that you ask people like Kadi to do,
right with his height. If you're trying to do an example,

(09:58):
like you take Aaron Gordon and drop him down to
a three and then put someone else in that, you know,
in between him and Yokich, as Michael Loona has done
in the past. It's it's interesting, but they're probably all
better suited as force, right, Like Cooper Flag's going to
settle in and being a four in this league. So

(10:19):
I just hope that they get whatever experiment they have
by having nineteen bigs on the roster and hoarding bigs
on Dallas. I share the wealth, Danzel Russell is your
primary ball handle right now, Share the wealth and get
a point guard. Okay, like that, Let's just keep it
a buck like Cooper's Flag's mom is reported had to
comment on a retweet that she had recently about fire

(10:43):
and Nico chants that were ringing out when Dallas's last game,
and you know, Unfortunately, this is the environment that built
when you do something like Dallas did in trading Luka Dancietz.
Is there a world, Jody where Luca's on the team,
the MAVs still end up with their draft selection and

(11:06):
they have Cooper Flagg and now they are just seventh heaven.
I don't know. Maybe a multiverse lives out there, but
it's not realistic because the reason why Cooper Flag is
wearing a Dallas uniform is because Luca Dodgers straighted to
the Lakers. I'm not gonna say that's a fact, right,
that's just what I believe. You feel me, So I
think he entered into the belly of the beast man.

(11:29):
It's gonna get pretty ugly. He's already made comments about
how he's not used to this much losing. Yeah, that's
what happens when you're the number one pick, you get
drafted by a NASS team and then you start losing
a lot, right, So we'll see. I know he has
a talent to turn around. He's had a great past
couple of games, but this is expected that he walked
into this type of environment. And I don't know if

(11:49):
you remember, Jody, but a lot of people were talking
about how Dallas had the best roster in the NBA
with the healthy Kyrie. Kyrie, I, as much as we
love him, this was bigger than Kyrie's talent figuring out correct.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
We've seen Kyrie fail with better talent on the team
that he's on right now. So I don't know where
people could even get that from. Or it was just
nasty all the way around, honestly.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Well, best of luck to you Nico, Hope you land
on your feet. Best of luck to your Cooper Flag.
Hope that you know they could turn it around slowly
or you find better pastors. Remember grass is always greener
than purple and gold, so you know, just just bookmark
that we do collect all the Infinity Stones.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
So expectations higher, but the rewards are greater.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Come on, come on now, Andy be a great addition
to the Lakers exciting whites, which we'll touch on right
after the break lane that Lake Show be right back
Late night Lake Show. So Jody Austin Breevez made his
return to the court last night night. Los Angeles Lakers
pick up a w against the Charlotte Hornets. Luca Doncis

(13:05):
this is just you know, I'm running out of just
things to say. I tweeted out the other day that
I'm at the point, bro where I'm done jumping out
the seat, I'm done scratching my head, I'm done pushing
anybody around me. I just shake my head when Luca
does with the what Luca does, Man, it's it's pretty
crazy to see. But yeah, Lakers are off to an

(13:25):
eight and three starts overall. Man, it's it's pretty impressive
what they're able to do without Lebron James on the court.
Just wanting to get your take on how the boys
are looking to you right now? Who's really stepping up
and man, Austin Reeds, Luca Donches. This is a pretty
cool one two punch to have in your back pocket.
Which with the King resting up.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Yeah, Man, knowing Lebron is coming back, I'm definitely looking
forward to it because I do think the team is
missing a little something as far as from their demeanor
and what a lot of things. So I'm definitely looking
forward to Brian being coming back. But the two things
that are gonna be bright spots that I want to say,
one that you talked about obviously Austin coming back and

(14:06):
looking like himself and hopefully looking like this little nagging
growing issue that he has is really just a little small,
petty thing and not really anything of note or noteworthy
that you should really, you know, care about. Basically, that's
kind of what I got feeling from looking at him playing. Secondly,

(14:28):
Marcus Smart is damn good and he looks good. Man.
Talk about it, bro, Like, if Marcus Smart can really
continue to look like he looks and gets in better,
better conditioning, man, that is an impact player come playoff time. Man,

(14:50):
He's gonna impact winning the amount of easy buckets that
he that he got just from steals and poking the
ball out. Like when you add that with the easy
buckets that Luca is gonna be able to get DeAndre
Aiden like yeah, like so many opportunities to get easy buckets,
it's just you just it's just everything. You adding a

(15:13):
guy like Lebron back into that, you got a guy
like Marcus Smart who looks like he's turning the clock back.
And obviously DeAndre Aiden has good touch around the buckets.
I think it was ar And and DeAndre Aiden little
pick and roll right at the nail, easy bucket, throw

(15:34):
it up, Aiden, long arms go up grab it, dunk it.
It was just it's gonna be free eats all game.
And then you add Lebron in that mix, you add
Lebron being able to beat a role man. Yeah, it's
just easy money. It's just gonna be easy money. I mean,
it's just i really see so much potential with this team.

(15:57):
I'm I'm really really looking forward to watching it this year.
I'm like excited.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
I'm I'll have to admit, man, my prediction at the
preseason was six and four start, and it was knowing
that Lebron James wasn't going to start the year with
the team. It was Luca Doncz It was the Austin reason.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
It was not.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Understanding what type of impact DeAndre Ayden have. But I
think even more so, it was not understanding that Rhachi
Mora would be top ten in the NBA and true
shooting would be perfect from three last night. And it
is just layers of scoring support from the team. And

(16:41):
I'm gonna have to say, man, Kwame called it. DeAndre
Ayden is crazy, crazy efficient. He has caught every lob
I've seen thrown to him, man, and he has finished
about ninety five percent of them. Good This plus Luca
plus Austin plus him being a anchor on the defensive end.

(17:05):
This is a team today, a team right now. You
feel what I'm saying, and it would be something that's
like all right, well, you know, like, yeah, there's maybe
some a gap between Oklahoma City. There's a gap. You know.
We'll see how he does against Djoki, against Gobert. He
looks strong. Against Wenby, he looks strong and he's getting
his man. It's that combination of being that supporting cast

(17:30):
player for Luca when he's dribbling in Austin when he's searching,
and then it's when you open that little picking pop,
that little seventeen footer, He's cash. He's cash.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
I like that a lot, bro. And you combine that
with the finishing. Aidan's really been a bright spot for us.
And he concerns Dog. I mean, everybody talks about how
lebrono come back, mess with the Camby Street, mess with
the flow, he gonna want to bow too much. What
do you expect out of Lebron James when he makes

(18:04):
his return, and what is that mix in your head
between Austin, Lebron and Luca Where the Lakers are just
running on all.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Cylinders late, I expect Lebron to do exactly what he
thinks needs to be done to fill the roles on
the team. That sounds cliche, but what I mean is,
I don't think that Lebron is gonna come back thinking
I need to be the number one guy or I
got to dominate the ball, because we've seen him not
do that when he was a better player, when he

(18:32):
was a you know, a more athletic, younger player. We've
seen Kyrie. I'll shoot him for a season, So you know,
I don't see a problem as far as shots. Or
he's so long. They call him a will and passer.
Obviously he can pass, he'll play off the ball. I
think Lebron is I think Lebron understands what's in the

(18:52):
Lakers' best interest is what's in his best entriest. Meaning
if I got to be the glue guy and focus
and be one of the better on the team and
let Luca at Ar focus on offense, then and I
just facilitate and get my easy buckets, get my quick
eight points in fast break and you know, two, three,

(19:13):
three pointers, and so you know what I'm saying, you
can find he gonna find his way to get his
twenty something points, but everything else, I think he's gonna
be like, hey, if I can. If somebody said, Lebron,
you have to do X, Y and Z to get
a championship in your twenty thirties, are you willing to
do it? Would you think he gonna tack? No? Like

(19:37):
so No, I think Lebron's gonna do whatever needs to
be done for them to win. And if he is
as smart as we say he is, he is gonna
know what that is. If JJ Reddick is as good
as a coach as we believe he is, they're gonna,
you know, address what needs to be addressed. With Lebron's
skill set at whatever capacity it is, he may be diminished.

(20:00):
He may really not be the same guy. We may
really see a shell of him. I don't think so,
but who knows. He is in his forties, so it
could be. But I think this guy's the limit. If
Lebron can come back and be itself, and I think
he would give his all and the reason for everybody

(20:21):
because I know it's like I try to Nobody knows
what's gonna happen. If he's going to retire with the
Lakers will try to do something crazy or go somewhere
else next year. Just remember, even in his last year
in Cleveland twenty eighteen, he played eighty two of eighty
two games, all of the games throughout the entire playoffs
and the finals. So whatever ulterior motive or bullshit that

(20:42):
is talked about, what we know when it actually comes
down to the rubber meat in the role, Lebron is
gonna be there and do as much as he possibly
can while he's there and let the chips fallward. They
may I like our eyes, we got Luca on us.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
I like god man, it's to me, it's exactly what
you should do with your generational veteran workhorse that is
slowing down. You do not need Lebron James the first
twenty games of the season at all. You don't you

(21:17):
need Lebron James for the playoffs. And that's hopefully what
the Lakers are going to provide. So that was a
quick one. We're gonna wrap up, and Jody had to
get out of here go pick up his kid. I
have to do the same, to be honest with you, Lakers.
Next few games coming up Oklahoma City on Waking this
on Friday, they got New Orleans and then a back
to back on Saturday for Milwaukee, and yours truly will

(21:42):
be in the building along with Kwame and some other
members of the Late Night Lakes Show slash Ricky family.
So if you're in the Milwaukee area, if you're gonna
be up there, if you in a mansion somewhere in Wisconton,
let me know if you hosting a pregame or a
after party after the Lakers beat down on the Greek
Greek and the mowalk Key Bucks. So I'll see y'all.
I'll report to y'all. Y'all know the content is gonna

(22:04):
be up on the timeline, so we'll talk to y'all soon.
Late O Lake Show.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
