Hi Neil, how are you very well?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Rachel? How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm doing great too, excellent.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
So what's our topic today?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Well, today's vocabulary is all about shops shops.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yes, oh, that sounds fun.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
So we've got an electronics shop, a clothes shop, a
shoe shop, a gift shop, a jeweler's, a sports equipment shop,
a toy shop, a furniture shop, a bookshop, a beauty salon,
a cafe, a pet shop, a bakery, a launderette, a chemist, supermarket,
(01:02):
an ice cream parlor, and a gym.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Wow, Rachel, we've got eighteen different types of shops to
choose from.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
So which of these shops can you find in your town? Rachel?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Well, in our town, we've got all of these shops individually,
but we don't have a shopping center.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
You don't have a shopping center there.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
No, Our closest shopping center is in the next town over.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Ah. Here in my town we have all these shops
and two shopping centers as well.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Wow, that's great.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
And which shop is your favorite?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Well, my favorites are the closed shop and the supermarket.
What about you, Neil?
Speaker 1 (01:44):
My favorite would have to be the toy shop. I
also really enjoy going to electronics shops. I visit them
quite often.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
That's great. Do you have any pets?
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yes, i'd do. I have a cat named Max that's lovely.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
And how often do you go to the pet shop?
Speaker 1 (02:06):
I go whenever we need to buy something. The last
time I went I bought a tunnel for Max to
play in. There's also a vet near the pet shop
where we take him. When we got back from holiday,
he'd been in a fight with another cat and got bitten,
so we had to take him to the vet.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
A Max gave you some trouble, he sure did.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
What about you? Do you have any pets?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yes? I have a little dog. What's its name Rosie?
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Rosie?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yes, that's right.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
And how often do you take Rosie to the vet
or the pet shop?
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I take her about once a month, but honestly, we
mostly take care of her at home.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Oh you take care of her yourselves at home?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yes, we do.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Is that Rosie barking now? Yes?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
She must have heard us talking about.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Her, so she barks when she hears her name.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Does Rosie give you much trouble?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
No, not at all. She's very well behaved.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
That's good to hear.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
She loves going for walks and doing her business outside.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Ah, so you have to take her for walks regularly.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yes, we do.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
And which other shops do you like visiting? Rachel?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Well, I really enjoy cafes, ice cream parlors and any
place that has food.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
You're a foodie, aren't you, Rachel?
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Is there an ice cream parlor near your house?
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yes? There is.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
What's it called?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
It's called Sunday ha ha.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Do they only open on Sundays? No?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
To avoid that confusion, they spell it Sunday, but pronounce
it like Sunday Sunday. Yes.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Do you usually have breakfast at the bakery? No?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
We typically have breakfast at home as a family. What
about you do you go out for breakfast?
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Well, when I'm on holiday, yes, I end up eating
so much. Last time I was in the UK, I
ate like a lion.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
But you can't beat British food, can you.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
That's true? British food is amazing. Do you go to
the gym, Neil.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
That's an interesting question because I've signed up for the
gym many times, but I usually pay and don't go.
I used to go a lot and got in pretty
good shape, but it's hard to keep up. Sometimes you
just forget to go.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
That's so true. We all do that.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
What about you?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
No, but I plan to start soon.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
You'll need to hit the gym to keep your energy
up for all these late night UK English teacher recordings exactly,
otherwise you'll be too tired to speak.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
So how often do you do your grocery shopping?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Well, we do a big shop once a month, but
we also go to the supermarket once a week to
pick up anything we've run out of.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
We do our grocery shopping weekly. There are always certain
things we need to buy every week to keep our meals.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Fresh every week. Wow, that's great. Do you enjoy giving
gifts to people?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Neil, It depends on the occasion. When I visit people,
I usually bring a little gift.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
And are there any gift shops near your house?
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yes, we have several gift shops here, but I tend
to buy most presents online these days. Do you enjoy
giving gifts?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yes, I love it, but here in the UK we
mostly give gifts on special occasions.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
That's true. I always like giving presents for birthdays, graduations, weddings,
and so on. I'd love to give even more gifts
if I could.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Okay, Neil, do you do your laundry at home or
at the launderette?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Most of the time we do our laundry at home,
but when we're on holiday we take it to a launderette.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Ah, that's good.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Well, Rachel, today we've talked all about shops.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Thanks so much for being here, and we'll see each
other in the next podcast.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
It's been a pleasure see you in the next episode.
