Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, everybody, Jackson read here and welcome back to less dopamine,
more discipline. I'm that guy who loves a good challenge,
and today we're tackling something pretty epic. Staying laser focused
on your goals for a full thirty days straight, ever,
feel like life's throwing curveballs, pulling you in a million directions.
You know that feeling when distractions come knocking louder than

(00:21):
the voice of your ambitions. We've all been there. But
here's the thing. Achieving those big dreams starts with consistency.
It's about building that unstoppable momentum day by day, week
by week. So how do we crack this code? How
do we tame the inner squirrel who wants to chase
every shiny object and actually stick to our goals for
a whole month. Let me break it down for you,

(00:42):
because I'm all about making these things practical and real.
First up, define your why. We're talking deep dive soul
searching level. Why why is this goal so important to you?
What will achieving it bring to your life? The more
powerful your reason, the stronger your motivation. Think about it
like this. If you're training for a marathon, it's not
just about crossing the finish line. It's about conquering that challenge,

(01:06):
pushing your limits and proving to yourself what you're capable of.
Connect with that feeling, that fire in your belly, and
let it fuel your journey next. Break it down seriously.
Big goals can feel overwhelming, like trying to climb Mount
Everest without a map or a proper gear. That's where
the power of smaller steps comes in. Imagine you're aiming

(01:26):
to write a novel. Instead of focusing on finishing the
whole thing at once, which might send you running for
the hills, break it down into manageable chunks. Maybe that's
writing five hundred words a day or completing one chapter
a week. Celebrate those many victories along the way because
they add up. Schedule it in. You wouldn't skip your
gym workout without putting it on your calendar, right, Treat

(01:48):
your goal focused time with the same respect. Block out
specific time slots in your day dedicated to working towards
your objective. It could be an hour in the morning
before the world wakes up, or a focus thirty minutes
after work. Make it non negotiable. Minimize distractions. It's a
jungle out there. Think of distractions like those pesky little
mosquitoes buzzing around your camp fire, annoying and determined to

(02:10):
steal your focus. The key is to create a distraction
free zone. Put your phone on silent, close unnecessary tabs
on your computer, and let your loved ones know you
need some uninterrupted time. If you're feeling overwhelmed by social media,
try taking a break for a week or two. You
might be surprised how much clearer your head feels. Remember
to celebrate your wins. Progress isn't always linear. Some days

(02:34):
will be easier than others, and that's okay. Give yourself
credit for every step forward, no matter how small. Treat
yourself to something you enjoy, take a break to recharge,
or simply acknowledge your hard work. You deserve it. Let
me tell you about a time I struggled with focus.
I was trying to write my first book, Ambitious Right,
But between emails, social media notifications, and the urge to

(02:57):
binge watch the new show everyone was talking about, saying
on track felt impossible. Then I realized I needed to
be ruthless. I set specific writing times, turned off all distractions,
and celebrated every completed chapter, like it was a victory dance.
Guess what, I finished my book. It wasn't easy, but
the feeling of accomplishment was worth every struggle. So remember this.

(03:19):
Staying focused for thirty days straight isn't just about willpower.
It's about creating a system that works for you. Define
your why, break down your goals into manageable steps, schedule
your time wisely, minimize distractions, and celebrate your wins along
the way. You've got this, go out there, focus on
what matters most and make those dreams a reality. And

(03:40):
don't forget to share your journey with me. I want
to hear how you're crushing it. Until next time, keep
striving for greatness. This podcast is created with the help

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
