(00:47):
When you're busy making gains in thegym, it's easy to overlook your own
vulnerabilities because workouts can be exhausting. It's easy to let your guard down and
fall for bad ideas, snake oilsupplements or even worse. Let's grow big
together. You got big dreams, you want big muscle, Well, here
(01:11):
is where you pay with sweat.I'm Fausto Arnos and I'm Marphilian and this
series we're taking a look at thepassion for muscle adventures in bodybuilding, muscle
gods, muscle worship, and practicaladvice stuff put on the games. Today
we look at bad ideas good bodybuildersfall for, also known as bro science,
(01:32):
how athletes fall prey to scams andconspiracies that stand in the way of
their success. Plus a look atthe fake fitness profile industry. You think
about your food may be more importantthan you think. And David Laide and
Chris Bumstead pretend to be gay loversfor views and we love it well loty
(02:04):
freaking nah. It's Let's Grow BigTogether, the podcast that builds muscle,
even if it's living in a vanby the river. Thank you, Chris
Farley. I know, every everytime I think about Mike Metzer, I
think about Chris Farley's van by theRiver guide because Mike's known for yelling at
people, right, he yelled atpeople, and he lived in a van
(02:28):
by the river. He famously gotinto fights with Arnold Swartzenegger because at the
time that Arnold and Mike were competingagainst each other in the Olympia. You
know, Arnold was a rising starin Hollywood, and of course just kind
of the same situation that Chris bumpsaid is in today, Right, they
were just sensations, you know,to meet. For example, Chris bump
(02:51):
said at the Arnold there was aline around the block, literally going around
twice, and I was just like, there's no way they cannot give Chris
Bumps to the top prize and whateverhe competes. He's so well loved,
He's unstoppable, you know, Andin some ways I imagine that Chris Bumpstead
himself feels so much pressure because ifhe you know, obviously doesn't look as
(03:15):
good as some of the other competitors, it creates this like situation where they
can't give him the award, orthey if they do give him the prize,
it comes across as a scam.So he has a little bit win
and nobody wants a prize for likejust being handed to you because you're just
a pretty little thing. He wonmy heart. But but the situation is,
(03:38):
you know, in all athletics,it's really you know, easy to
fall prey for bad ideas when you'reworking so hard and you know, going
for the silver medal myself this pastyear at the NPC Mid American Winter Classic,
I was just like, you know, it in some ways, it's
great because if anyone's like well, you know, let's go get some ice
(03:59):
cream, right, do you haveto go to the gym? And you
know, really, seventy minutes ofCarnio in the morning. Gosh, you
just point to the contest poster andsay winter is coming and doing it for
this and that shuts some people up, but you know it also like then
you're spending all this time negotiating andtalking to people and it's exhausting. And
so then when you're sort of likeworking on your own, it's just you,
(04:24):
your family and your coach and sometimesjust you and the stairs, and
you just like get on your phoneand you start going on the internet and
you're just like, what the hallyis this? This's being targeted to me.
There's a lot of weird ideas outthere. Yeah, And so Mike
Metzer, he is somebody who shapedand changed bodybuilding for I think for the
good, even though he is somebodywho admitted that he struggled with meth addiction
(04:49):
who hasn't and and was gay forpay who hasn't who hasn't well, But
but the situation is that, youknow, despite his own personal struggles,
he strikes me as a very unhappyperson because he was so singularly obsessed with
building and chasing muscle to the pointthat it destroyed him as a person.
(05:12):
And you know, so in termsof it wasn't the method that destroyed him.
Well, the meth was a partof his pre workout right. So
it's like, you know, doyou remember taking jacked? Yeah, yeah,
back in the that was like almosta decade ago, twenty twelve,
thirteen fourteen. Yeah, I loveJack. It had a meth precursor.
Is that methylamine? Dimethylamine methy Itsounds like a like a fake thing from
(05:33):
breaking bad. I remember telling yourfriend we should cook this into a rock
and smoke it. Okay, No, I don't think that's a good I
was just kidding anyway, kind of. But I'm but I'm thinking, like
you probably, if you knew yourchemistry, you probably could have bought dimethylamine
or jacked and somehow distilled it andthen dried it and smoked it back in
(05:54):
the day, And for some reason, the FDA was looking the other way,
and so for for quite a minyyears, Like I love what.
They can't test every drug. Imean, there's a lot of party drugs
that were on the scene for along time and then eventually they're like,
oh, let's regulate this. Yeah. So you know, to some degree,
I always think caffeine is a drugstill, right, And so now
(06:15):
the new hot trend in pre workoutsis stimulant free. How does that work
well? Because new tropics. Right, So there's a I call it mabeline,
but it's mabeling what can't be true. It's citralling. Citralling and other
similar compounds stimulate your brain in waysthat caffeine doesn't in order to engage you
(06:38):
in and to get you going tolift for your best. And still the
drawback with all that stuff is that, you know, even the workout itself
is going to wake you up.And so if you're lifting really really late
at night, it's going to keepyou up at night and keep you from
getting good night's sleep, which iswhen your body creates compounds hormones. When
(07:00):
you build the muscle, you buildthe muscle, but also it gives you
your body the chemistry that it needsto maintain and grow muscle. And so,
like you know, a good night'ssleep is the number one ingredient rest,
ironically to improper rest. And sowe'll do a different podcast about that
because it's really it's a very complicatedand long topic about it, but in
(07:21):
a nutshell, you know, dimethylamine, you know, was a popular pre
workout drug, and you know,I have been seen, like on Instagram
people taking pre workouts just as ascoop dry into their mouth, and I'm
like, the key ingredient, Well, the key ingredient is water. So
if you're taking this pre workout stuffand you're not giving your body the water
(07:45):
that it needs, and it doesn'tgive you the best of its abilities to
get you ready for our good workouts, you got to stay hydrated, right,
And so you know Mike Matzer,he is somebody who changed the way
people thought about working out. Soin Arnold's day, it was not unusual
to be at the gym the entireday, and so these guys would bring
their lunches. And I still seethis at when I was training, you
(08:07):
know, like I work out sometimesAmerica's Gym, and I'm getting off of
work at around eight o'clock and I'mlifting with my coach till around eleven o'clock
or sometimes like ten o'clock, andthen I'm doing like you know, twenty
or thirty minutes of cardio in throughoutthe workout, I start smelling food and
some of these people there are,you know, lifting for three or four
(08:28):
or five hours. Got to feedthe beast, say the beast. But
they're they're like taking a food breakand then continuing lifting on, you know,
and they have like a little kitchenand stuff. So that's the theory
about that is that is that notlike most people want to have it like
under an hour, under two hours, so that you can have like the
rest of your life. But ifyou're training for something, why not three
(08:48):
or four hours? Well, partof it is that it's diminishing gains,
right, and so you want tobe able to stimulate, not annihilate.
You want to be able to provideenough stimulus to your body. And so
when you're lifting weights and you gotthat soreness, it's not lactic acid.
Is actually just the muscle tissue isjust a little bit frayed. And so
if you fraight it too much, you get injuries. If you don't freight
(09:11):
enough, there's not enough stimulus forit to grow. And so you got
to strike that right balance for you. And so what works well for one
athlete may not work well for anotherone. And that's where, like you
know, consultation or coaching can berarely helpful because it's an objective person looking
at what you do and seeing howyou respond to it and then making recommendations
(09:33):
based on that. And so forme, like I love being at the
gym because I'm surrounded by beautiful menand women, right, and so especially
men. What is it coming atthe gym? Is that what Arnold said?
I'm always coming up coming, Likecan you imagine how great my life
is? I'm coming is like thepump is like coming, and so I'm
coming at the gym, I'm comingon the stage, and of course I'm
(09:56):
actually coming in real life. It'sgreat, is the quote. But and
so you know, with Mike Metzer, he with somebody said, hey,
why don't we do the opposite.Let's create short workouts and really go intent,
And he had one where he wasjust like, this guy's gonna grow
big muscles by doing two reps.Yeah it was, And so he took
(10:16):
kind of the opposite approach. Butobviously, like Mike Metzer, when he
was competing against Arnold Schwarzenegger, heheld his own and some people even said
that, hey, I had abetter physique than Arnold, and Arnold would
regularly go round to his competitors andtry to psych them out, and Mike
Metzer's like, you're a fool.He's like, mister T Like, I
pity the fool who messages with me, Mike Metzer. So I think the
(10:41):
takeaway is striking balance, right,And when you're struggling, when you're you
know, being an athlete, whetherit is like you're going for the Olympics
or the NPC or whatever contest you'retrying to do, it's so easy to
get frustrated or you don't see theprogress that you want to see, or
you're not getting the records of thetimes, like if you're a sprinter for
(11:03):
example, right, and so you'rejust like, what can I do?
What can I do? And soa lot of people turn to you know,
snake oil, good snake oil,and bad snake oil. Well,
snake oil is always bad. Yeah, Well, you know some snake oil
does actually work, but it's snakeoil still because it can come with harmful
side effects. Right. So Ithink that's the nature of snake oil is
(11:26):
it's saying it's something that does notwork. Yeah, But to some degree,
Like you know, snake antidote ismade from snake venom, right,
and so you know, in termsof the and what do we call bad
things like scams snake oil do youknow? Because people used to go around
and they used to sell something. It was called snake oil, and it
was supposed to protect you and giveyou vitality. It was supposed to do
(11:48):
all these things, which it didnone of it. So snake oil means
that this is something that does notwork. And in the music video for
say Say Say with Michael Jackson PaulMcCartney, they're snake oil salesman and they're
selling a strength tonic that gives MichaelJackson. It was just hilarious super strength
(12:09):
to knock out a bully. Idon't remember that at all. And then
they you know, sit on theback with Lenna McCartney on Rest in Peace
in the back of a van andthey go to the next town, you
know, And that's like the plotof the eighties. Ok. In the
eighties, like music videos, theyspent so much money and you know,
they had script writers and now everyone'sjust like holding up their phone and they're
(12:33):
like, hey, this is Mon'ssong. Who you know, check me
out on TikTok Yo. But backthen they would pour in. It was
no you know, Michael Jackson's musicvideo for Thriller was so expensive because they
actually hired Brian de Palmer from AmericanWerewolf in London and the special effects efforts
(12:56):
experts to turn Michael Jackson into agiant wear cat that they sold the rights
of the making of the music videoto HBO and that's how they are able
to fund the music video. Ohwow. Yeah, So back to you
know, bad ideas. Right,So Mike Metzer, you know, kind
of took the opposite approach, andto this day, like he's kind of
(13:20):
a celebrated controversial figure on the Internetbecause you know, he just came with
a litany of like extreme reactionary ideas, right. Well, it was full
of a lot of personalities. There'sa lot of video of him today and
like and he's literally like yelling atyou on how to do exercises. So
it's kind of like, you know, so if you're like a sub bottom
(13:41):
or into that domb play, youknow, he's kind of like that daddy
dom coach, right yeah, andyou know, like I think of even
someone like you know, Caitlyn Jenner, who earlier on in her athletic career
was a famous international athlete, thecathlete on the box of wheaties. I
mean, it's so easy to belike, yeah, that trans woman is
(14:03):
like used to be like this celebratedathlete before you know, all they became
conservative conservative nonsense. But you know, athletes tend to be isolated to some
degree, and so they fall preyfor like the idea that they did it
all on their own. And ittakes a village to build an athlete.
It's it takes a village, butit just start with you, you know,
(14:24):
but you can get inspired by people. There's people that will support you
along the way. You know, somebody built that gym you're working out it.
People pay those roads you're getting tothe gym at. So it brought
the groceries to the grocery store. You know, are you cooking your own
meals as your family? You dohave agency there, of course, you
know, you're the one that's goingto make it happen. Nobody's going to
(14:45):
force you to get big and getmuscle. You have to do that on
your own. But you know, again with help, well, and you
know even if you are pursuing anathletic career and people be shocked to find
out it's like, they don't payyou to be in the Olympics, they
don't pay you for anybody building shows. I mean, if you do win
like the Olympia, you get somemoney. But in order to compete in
(15:05):
anything most athletic events, you haveto spend your money or find a sponsor.
And so, you know, likethat, that was a quick question
that people asked me. It waslike, how much money did you win?
I'm like nothing. I would lieand say I've got like twenty thousand
dollars. Why would you want tolie about that? Well, just to
see the look on their face,Like really, I'm like, yeah,
(15:26):
do you want some money? Youfill out this form for the IRS,
which is Social Security number, there, mother's last name, maiden name.
Hi. This is fauster from theIRS, maybe trying to get a hold
of you about it. You know, cars insurance. We'll get to scams
in a second. But so youknow, this idea that more is more
(15:48):
more isn't always more right because thefact that your ability to recover is going
to be unique to you. Andso, for example, do you have
a full time job, or areyou, like you know, retired or
or are you it's bodybuilding? Areyou're an athlete? Is your job and
you can have a sponsor or someonepaying you to lift. Right, recovery
is going to be different the kindof culture you come from, the kind
(16:11):
of culture your DNA, your body'sability to digest certain kinds of foods.
You know, if somebody has ahard time digesting milk products some way,
protein might not jive with them.Right, So what's weird? Because some
people can be locktos intolerance, Theysay they can't do weigh at all,
and other people are like wegs,no problem for me, yeah, yeah,
And because everybody's different, yeah,And so you need to determine that
(16:33):
either you know, it's a trialand error or working with a coach to
figure that out so you can makethe best gains. And so when you're
being misled by somebody on the internetwho may, like Arnold, trying to
psyche you out so you don't succeedso they get to succeed. So be
very skeptical with the advice, evenour advice. Right, So, like
do your own research and work withprofessionals who make a living at this because
(17:00):
otherwise you're not going to you're goingto sort of be in the dark.
And tracking what you eat, trackingwhat you lift, and tracking your sleep,
all that stuff is very helpful inorder to understand how your body is
reacting to it. And taking picturesonce a week, I know it's sometimes
humiliating. You're like, if you'reworking with a coach, once a week,
you have to take a pictures ofyourself flexing and relax and it does
(17:23):
feel like you're setting up an onlinedating profile, right, You're like,
my app now wants me to takephotos of myself to see my progress and
stuff, and I always feel kindof uncomfortable and awkward. Which app is
that one? The workout app?The workout app? Yeah, Oh,
it's wanting you to sort of liketrack that. Well. It can be
helpful, right because you can seelike where you're making progress, and you
yourself have been self guided for thelast couple of years. You've been guiding
(17:48):
me as well. Yeah, butyou're doing You're making those decisions on your
own when to train and how totrain and what to eat. No one's
telling you pretty much. Yeah, and I think that you're being more successful
than most people. At making progress. You know, as long as you
get the I, as long asyou do the workouts, as long as
you get the nutrition, as longas you get to sleep, something's going
to happen, right, you know. And that's what I do. I
(18:10):
always focus on those those things, eat, sleep, and work out.
So what's like the big myth orbig bullshit that everybody thinks it's true and
it just isn't in terms of whenit comes to like food, because we
see all kind of you know,we training, everybody wants to, Like,
my sister's all like you gotta govegan. Oh, everybody's like,
(18:32):
yeah, there're vegan bodybuilders, andlike, look at this guy. He
built this body from just by beinga vegan. And then you find out,
oh, he went vegan two yearsago, you know. And then
I have friends who are paleo. They're they're mostly carbohydrate I'm sorry, protein
based, and they're saying, like, cut out all carbs. Carbs are
evil. You know, only hasto be protein. You have to have
(18:55):
butter, bacon, steak, andeggs in the morning and nothing else.
And you're like that seems a littleharevy. Well do it? Like most
people do, they just watch theirmacros. Right, they look at uh
and try and fill those things theyget trying to get their vegs, their
carbs, and their protein in well. Strike a balance, right. So
you know, this idea that toomuch protein is bad for your body has
(19:17):
been debunked quite a bit, andamazingly, it's not that bad for your
kidneys. What happens is a lotof people just don't have enough water.
So if you weigh abound two hundredpounds, you should have about a gallon
and a half a water day.And even my myself knowing this, it's
a challenge to get up gallon init. It's hard to drink a lot
of water, yeah, because you'repeeing like a motherfucker. And so the
(19:41):
one thing I would tell people islike, in the beginning of your day,
preload your water. Chug chug, chug, chug chug, first thing
in the am, yeah, becauseotherwise you're just gonna be struggling later on.
And it's like and then you know, a lot of people get a
lot of their water in the eveningwhen they're working out, right, And
guess what happens when you're sleeping atnight. Your bodies want to screet it
(20:02):
and so you're waking up in themiddle of night to pee, which Keith
interferes with asleep. So don't drinkwater when you're working out late at night.
It's balance, right, figure outhow much water you need and try
to get in sooner than later becauseof the fact that you sleep is really
important. And you know this otheridea was also like cardio is bad or
(20:25):
oh my god, yeah all over. Anybody who's ever been to anybody building
forum is like cardio is the enemyof games. And you're like, oh
my god, a healthy body iseasier to build muscle than a sickly body.
Well, you do need cardio becauseyou need to get your heart pumping
in that in that at that level, right, what is it? What
(20:45):
is cardio exactly? Cardio is likecardios from your heart, right, so
you have to get your heart pumpingand so and what that does is like
you get all this fluid around yourheart. It gets rid of that fluid,
It gets rid of a lot ofthat pressure. It pumps the blood
through your system. And so alsoit makes your by doing cardio, it
(21:07):
makes your heart more dynamic. Sowhat happens with like heart disease and hardening
of the arteries is. Some ofthat is from inactivity, so it's not
moving as much, so it getsharder and then plaque builds up and then
you can have heart attack and die. And it's short for cardio vascular,
okay, or pulmonary right, Well, the term is cardiovascular, right,
(21:29):
so cardiovascular exercise and that means thevascular means your capillary is the smallest vessels
that carry blood in your body, are more susceptible to high blood pressure,
to impurities, to illness, andwhen those go all kinds of shit goes
down. Gonna be bad. Sojust doing and I tell people what is
cardio? Cardio is this, Well, you can figure out. It's usually
(21:56):
by your age, right, theysay what your target rates should be,
So like I think for more peopleit's like somewhere above like one to twenty
right beats, heart beats from minute. Yeah, But anything that gets your
heart rate going up, whether it'ssex, walking, jumping jacks, anything
that's movement oriented that gets your heartrate going like stress also will raise your
(22:19):
heart rate. But that's not good. That is going to be beneficial to
your body to some degree. Andyou know, people who live active lifestyles
have better cardiovascular health than someone whodoesn't. And they say, actually,
any amount of exercise is significantly betterthan doing no exercise at all. Even
if you're a hype of person thatcan only do like a half hour of
(22:41):
exercise a week, you're going todo better long in the long term than
somebody that does no exercise at all, and even that small amount and who
lives longer. Cat owners or dogowners, I don't know dog owners?
You know why? Why not?Because dogs are better than cats? Because
to walk those is that bro science. That's not bro science. Looking up
(23:03):
tons of studies about okay, youknow, and I think cats are killing
people. Maybe the cats are sleepstealing your breath when you sleep. But
you know the act of walking yourdog or just getting out just because it's
it's healthy for your dog and it'shealthy for you. And believe it or
not, some people have turned towalking their cats. So they put their
they train their cats and put themon leashes and take them outside. My
(23:26):
dad used to take the dog fora walk on a leash in the neighborhood
and then the cat would just follow. That's so sweet. And it usually
would run along the houses and throughthe bushes and whatnot. And you know,
run and then play catch up andthen wait. Was adorable. And
you know to some degree, peoplewith parrots, they've put them the parrots
on leashes or just train their petbirds to be on their shoulder and they
(23:48):
go outside. If it's good foryour pet, it's going to be good
for you. So you know yourdog needs water. You need water,
Your dog needs regular amount of foods, regular amounts of food. I'm not
a fan of like intermittent fasting.Well, it's hard for you to fast.
You're not a person who likes to. I used to fast. We
used to always fast when I wasin college. It was many years before
(24:10):
I knew year since i've known you. You do not like to go for
extended periods of time without something inyour stomach. That's right. You know
you get very cranky without having Youknow, there's some benefits to it.
They say that it helps with theproduction of human growth hormone, which repairs
your body and helps your body grow. So what's holding you from doing that?
Well, because I don't necessarily liketo go for long periods of time
of being hungry either. Well, and just start the way our lifestyle is
(24:33):
set up. Sometimes it makes it, It makes it harder. I work
at night, so like I'm sometimesgetting you know, I'm going to work
sometimes at three. I'm eating mydinner at seven pm. But then you
get off at ten or eleven, and then you know you're still a little
hungry, so then you have alittle maybe you go to the gym after
that, and then you want toeat, and so you're eating and then
going to bed. It's not thebest thing, but it's also like,
(24:55):
you know, my body wants thefuel, it wants that energy. We're

couple of supplements that everybody used totake all the time that no one takes

anymore because they one was turned outto be cancerous was beta carotene. Yeah.
I think that those studies beta carotenepeople were taking that and they were
figuring out that people were getting lungcancer from it, right right, Yeah,
I remember taking that and thankfully Idon't have lung cancer that I know
of. I know. I hada friend she her sister got cancer,
(28:38):
lung cancer, and she started offwith a cough and cough and she's like,
it's just a touch of cancer, and then it turned out she actually
did have cancer unfortunately. Yeah. You know something that bodybuilders used to take
all the time they don't anymore wasred Bull. Red Bull gives you wing

and for you monster. Yeah, but go read the label. Guess what's
on the back of the How muchtauring is in? Probably very little,
tiny, tiny amounts, tiniest amount. Actually taurine actually is really good and
creatine in preventing cramps. But somepeople believe actually creating causes cramps, but
that is not the case. Well, creating is one of the most studied
(29:22):
supplements and that everybody is just likeit works. It puts fluid into your
muscles, It makes your muscles lookbigger, it helps, it helps with
the brain function. They say,I still feel like I take creatine every
day, but I still feel likeit's a highly overrated supplement. And like
Ronnie Coleman is like, how'd youget so big? And he's like creatine
and I'm like a little bit ofanabolic steroids. But yeah, but people
(29:45):
still get nervous about it. Ihad people like, what do you think
of creating as though they're talking aboutlike what kind of drugs should they do
at the y a circuit party orsomething. You know, yeah, just
not the creatine man. And touring. Yeah, but you know, I
think to some degree, like thewell like touring they say, like,
you know, this gives you wingsand stuff like that, but don't a
(30:07):
lot of people take touring at night. You can take touring. So the
the reason Red Bull had that slogan, it's because add high amounts of caffeine.
Yes, and caffeine can cause crampsand your muscles locking out when you're
working out. And let me tellyou, as somebody who struggles with that.
It was a nightmare. So youknow, anabolic steroids, if you're
(30:30):
taking them, can also lead todrying out your muscles, especially wind straw
I think is one of them. And and so that tends to dry out
your muscles, and so it increasesthe chances for cramps. So when you
say drying out, so there's notas much water. And they're also to
what about the electrolytes, because don'tcramps sometimes happen for right, and so
(30:51):
lack of potassium exactly right. Butsomething to be really careful of is don't
you want to supplement potassium through yourdiet and not through medic medication. And
that's because it can compromise your cardiovascularhealth. But tauring and creating great stuff.
If you're having cramps, take aboutthree thousand three pills. They sell
(31:15):
a thousand milligram pills about an hourbefore you lift and creating five milligrams.
Take it also, I like totake it right before I lift as well.
You put it in your smoothies andnice smoothies. Yeah. Now,
another thing that a spotlight supplement thatI would like to draw attention today is
that a lot of body builders whodon't know about this, But we learned
(31:36):
this from a bodybuilding which she wasa wikka that worked at the vitamin store
and she turned us onto Sissus quadranggulatis, which is antic. I always
forgot how to pronounce that is likeancient India. Yeah, so this herb
is like amazing at helping your bodyfrom tendon injuries, muscle injuries, and
(32:04):
also helps improve your cardivascu your healthand protect your kidneys. So if you're
on it's supposed to be good forimmune too and immune system. Yeah,
so it's great stuff. Taking aboutfifteen hundred milligrams a daily, great stuff.
What's it helped you with? Well, I was having really big problems
with my shoulder this past couple ofweeks, and I think it was you
who were like, Yeah, youwere like, are you taking your sisters?
(32:27):
And I was like, you originallystarted taking it for your knees,
right, I took it from myknees and it helped a lot. But
you know, with the thing aboutit is like with some of these supplements,
you can't be on them indefinitely becausethe potency just kind of wears off,
right, And so you know, with a cissus. I started taking
it, man, it just madequick work of my shoulder to heal.
(32:50):
And you want to take in themorning and the evening, preferably on an
empty stomach. Now here's the bigwhopper. This is what and this is
really tressing businesses all tied to neoconservative, reactionary conspiracy theories. You know,
shortage of those fascism and athletes iswomen. Women are to blame for
(33:17):
low to strassterone levels and men andnot you know, lethargy, our environment,
our food supply, the stress thatwe face, the fact that we
don't are as physically active as weused to. What are they saying women
are like just like like vampire suckingtestosterone. Well, you know when you
(33:37):
read and listen to podcasts and blogsabout this issue, they come across as
the little Rascals women Haters Club,And I'm like, so are women lowering
women's hormones to SOOSTERL levels too?Well, you know they do that Queen
Bee syndrome where like a woman whowill start menstuating and like if she's living
(33:59):
in a house with other woms andthey'll all get on that same kind of
schedule and they all start menstruating atthe same time. And what's the benefit
of that. Uh So, Idon't know, So you will there's a
biological benefit for women synchronizing their harmup the fertility, fertility, fertility because
at the same time exactly, sowhen they have the big giant sex orgy
(34:22):
bash, they're all get pregnant atthe same time kind of and and and
likewise for men, you know,we don't live isolated. Takes a village,
right, and so the women inyour in your household, at work,
in your community have an influence onyou just like the men do as
well. Do you think there's aking B syndrome where like if you're around
a guy who's got high testosterone everythingelse. Well, there was a study
(34:45):
that that we talked about about theperception of men penis size. And they're
athleticism cacocracy, right, So theteam that thought their captain, the captain,
their coach, their their star quarterbackhad a bigger dick performed better than
the ones who thought their their leadcoach or captain had a small dick.
(35:08):
Yeah, and he didn't. Andthat's all perception the guy. They may
have both had the same size dick, but it's how you perceive the dick.
So we're going to get to thatand how you think about things shape
the outcome. But so right nowthere's this really disturbing trend and these are
like otherwise progressive guys, you know, Bernie Sanders supporters, you know,
(35:31):
anti racism, pro everybody belongs inbodybuilding people who are spewing this hogwash.
And the number one thing they sayis that women in leadership positions are making
men sick. And I'm like,oh my god, I'm like, you
don't tell us that you don't havea job without telling us you don't have
(35:52):
a job. Well, maybe theywork for themselves obviously, because they can't
have a job where one shows up. So they say, because if they
have a boss who's a woman, their testosterone is just naturally going to decline,
decline. And so this idea islike we're you know, we're not
blaming on the fact that there's awar going on to make people sick.
(36:12):
You know, Susan Powder talked aboutthis that basically there's money to be made
by keeping you sick and weak andunhealthy, then there's money to be made
making you strong and healthy. Right, And so you know, these corporations,
so they're taking all the responsibility offthese corporations that are sort of pumping
like junk food into our food supply. There there's you know, so much
(36:37):
money being spent on increasing car consumptionand car culture as opposed to like walking
culture. There's very little subsidies interms of like encouraging people to exercise.
The cost of gym memberships are goingup ridiculously high. Gym hours are closing,
and there's one one gym was askingme to join. I said,
(36:57):
but your gym closes at eight o'clockon weekdays. And I'm like explain to
them. It's like, when doyou think people go to work, sir?
And he's like, they go fromwork to nine to five. I'm
like, correct, right, Well, some people get you know, if
you look at it, these days, people work from nine to six with
an hour for lunch. So ifthey're leaving their jobs at six o'clock and
(37:19):
grabbing something to eat to get tothe gym, it gives them less than
an hour to work out. Andwe've all been at gym's where they're like
the germ's closing in thirty minutes, the germ closing in fifteen minutes exit the
building or the building will blow up, you know, And you're like,
clearly your gym is for retired peopleand not for people with jobs. Have
a nice day. Call me whenyou change your hours. And the proper
(37:43):
bodybuilding gyms, good gyms are twentyfour hours. They figure out how to
make it work. You don't needto have a person stare a tame of
five or six people staring at peopleworking out at midnight or at eleven o'clock
at night. You need your mainstaff doing working hours, right. So
this whole idea is like they're notgiving, they're not holding all these people
(38:07):
who are actually lowering our testosterone levelsaccountable. They're making women accountable for it.
So then they go on and thisis one podcast. If you guys
want to hear about it, I'llsend you a link. It was not
being bossy or aggressive or pushy toyour girlfriend is going to make her leave.
You tell me you don't have agirlfriend. Without telling me you don't
(38:30):
have a girlfriend. What woman doesn'tlove like a big strong man, there's
you know, you want to berespected, you want to be loved,
you want to be included, youknow, And it's like a good relationship
is based on communication. But somebodywho's thinking, like I don't need to
tell you, well, that soundslike these guys probably at some point in
time experience some kind of trauma, and so it doesn't seem like it's exciting
(38:51):
kind of love unless there's some kindof like madness happening that If it's just
something comfortable, calm and nice, how can that possibly be loved. It
has to be like something that's liketearing my heart apart. Allowing boys to
play with dolls makes them weak,And I'm like, hello, the Barbie
movie just came out. Sorry,I mean, whod hasn't played with?
(39:14):
And this is the weird thing, like, define what a doll is?
You've played with a Gi Joe actionfigure, Star Wars action figures. Those
aren't dolls. It's interesting, ridiculous. I don't call them dolls, right,
yeah, action figures because you knowthat would lower boys testosterone levels than
when they them weak. How muchtestosterone level does a little boy have?
Anyway, Well, that's what they'resaying, is that they grow up to
(39:36):
be weak men or sickly men,or you know, because of the women,
because of the dolls and all thisstuff, and to me, it's
just it's so heartbreaking because it's it'sthis idea that you know, enjoying being
loving and kind to children and lettingchildren freely express themselves is harming them.
(39:58):
And the saddest thing that makes meis that father's holding babies lowers the father's
distosterone. And I'm just like,oh my god, maybe for a moment,
is there any science behind this?I mean, they've done studies.
Is that what's happening. They're all, you know, there's going to be
a study, But it's like, you know, I think about all the
fathers during the COVID pandemic to spendtime with their children, and how like
(40:21):
these days, father spends so muchtime with their kids. And I think
they're you know, correlating the lawthe real issue of environmental issues of and
this is not just men, thisis a women, this is non binary
people, this is all kinds ofpeople are struggling with health issues based on
(40:42):
our environment and lifestyles and food supply, and instead they're blaming it on fathers
being loving to their children. Thatbreaks my heart. And conversely, then
they say wealth and success in businessis a result of not loving your children,
(41:04):
being pushy and mean to women andmaking sure that women are not in
leadership positions in your business. That'snefarious. Yeah, and they're buying it.
And then the top of it,this is an actual quote relationship to
advice to heterosexual men. Resist, don't be complacent, don't be agreeable,
(41:28):
don't concede, always win. That'ssome in cell bullshit right there. That
sounds like share. We used toplay this game, share drag, queen
fitness influence or not seeing who saidit? Isn't that just isn't that?
That's just whole heartbreaking. And Idon't know, like Mark, we're hearing
(41:52):
all this stuff, like what's yourvisceral reaction? What are you thinking here?
Well, you know, I thinksome of this it's just kind of
comes to sound. It's like it'sthey may have had these studies done or
looked at these studies, and youknow, you can look at studies and
if you have an implicit bias againstsomeone like misogyny, you know, if
you don't really like women or you'refiguring out how to control women in your
(42:15):
relationship, then these kinds of thingsthat are like help prop that argument in
your mind up. So you havethis theory, and so then you're looking
for other things that are going tosupport it, you know it just and
I'm like, what exactly do youthink you're winning? And like what happens
if your maybe if you have awife in your testosterone level drops, Like
(42:38):
how much does this drop? Andwhat does that actually do to you?
And if you're on steroids, whatthe fuck do you care? Anyway?
You're supplementing it anyway, Well, this is the thing, right, So
it's like, if we you know, performance enhancing drugs aside, your human
body is going to, like thewaves of the notion, it's going to
ebb and flow in its hormonal cycles. When we sleep, our hormones are
(43:02):
not the same as when we wakeup. And this idea that you know,
more testosterone equals more success, I'mlike, well then you know,
hey, asshole, why don't youjust go take some you know, high
levels of testosterone. See how thataffects your business? It won't you know,
your customers will be like, thisguy's nuts. And we all know
people who run gyms or businesses arelike, damn, that guy is fucking
(43:27):
bonkers. You know, I tryto join this one gym one time,
and the guy was just irrational, sweating, crazy, pushy, was it?
Mike Metzer? He kind of mightas well have then, you know,
It's like and to me, I'mlike, what is it that you're
winning? What? Ultimately, evenArnold Schwarzenegger says, you know, this,
this idea that bigger is better isdestroying bodybuilding because people look at these
(43:52):
bodybuilders and they're like grossed out byit, huge and freaky, you know,
And so you know, it's alsoreally on a positive here we start
seeing all these bodybuilders in fitness influencersembracing their feminine side there. I mean,
think about John Cena dressing up indrag. I mean, he's one
(44:13):
of the most He's not wearing afishtail, he's in wigs or halter top
well, and and you know, like right now, Chris Bumpstead and was
this the other guy? Uh,David Laid sounds like a porn star name.
Somebody edited a video make it looklike they're pretending to be gay lovers
(44:37):
for view, and it works, and it's so adorable. It's like a
very romantic couple together. They seemso happy, right right, I hope
they're happy. Yeah, I mean, you know, personally, I actually
know some famous bodybuilders. I'm gonnakeep my mouth shut that we've been,
you know, chummy. And nowI see them on Instagram getting married to
(45:00):
a woman, and I'm like, they probably feel the same way when they
find out I'm married to They're like, no, you're married to a man.
But you know what, Listen, your life is going to be as
unique. Your love is going tobe as unique as you are. And
chase that and pursue it relentlessly. And if being if you're bisexual and being
(45:24):
with this one woman is making youhappy, and marry her, marry her.
It's it's okay. You know, you can see the pleave part of
you still got LGBTQ plus there. You know, you can be if you
don't feel like you are bisexual anymorebecause you're in love with a woman.
You could still be an ally. You can still be rooting for people to
(45:45):
be treated with kindness and equality. You can still come over on Saturday afternoon
essay. But you know, andso you know, David laid and Chris
Bump said, and a lot ofwe call it, what is the term
called gay baiting is is people pretendingto be gay or actually being gay.
(46:07):
Uh, for money or for views. I mean, Mike Metzer, was
you know gay for pay? Right? Gay p pray is ugly. I
think gay baiting is kind of morefun. Gay gay gay for pay is
usually associated with doing pornography or asex work. Gay baiting is, you
know, trying to pretend like you'rea little bit gay to to get people
(46:28):
interested in your career. I mean, Jake Burton went famously went by the
name of Stu on On Sean Codyand now he's very successful bodybuilder coach and
fitness influencer and DJ I don't know, Annihilate, DJ Annihilate, and you
know, I talked to him aboutcoming on the show and he was like
(46:50):
hours close, this close, andhe was like, was it really hammer?
Was it a fake profile because itwas this verified profile online, you
know, or maybe it wasn't.You know. We have a friend Steve
Grand who's known for All American Boy. He's also a famous bodybuilder as well,
and we I guess you were ata party. Well, I don't
want to get too deep into itjust because it's well, he says,
(47:13):
talk about it. This is otherpeople's personal business. But you know,
there's a lot of person you know, as somebody I know got into like
many conversations with somebody that thought wasSteve Grand, and they're like, hey,
do you think this is Steve.I'm just like, that is absolutely
not Steve, you know, becauseSteve wouldn't talk to you like this,
Steve wouldn't ask you for money,Steve wouldn't do that kind of stuff like
(47:34):
that's not how he is. Sosomeone went and saw Steve Grand's success and
the fact that he's a very goodlooking, beautiful, muscular man, catfish
somebody and download all his pictures andpretended to be him going to somebody and
started a relationship where the end goalwas to get money fast and be like,
oh man, I'm really hitting ithard and stuff and Steve. I
(47:55):
talked to Steve about it, andhe said, you know it, there's
probably there's an industry of this, right. So there's spammers, there's telemarketers
that are trying to steal money fromseniors and stuff like that. There is
a whole industry of people who sitdown and go after people with those verified
check profiles or have a lot ofviews or you know, followers, and
(48:21):
pretend to be them and then goaround and causing mayhem or mischief or with
the ultimate goal of getting money frompeople. And I've actually worn across people
who've done that about me, andI started chatting with them and they were
not realizing they're talking to me,even though there person using that right exactly.
And so then I find one personI was like, you are so
(48:45):
I started like greater conversations. Youare so beautiful, my god, oh
wow. I was like, Iwould love to get together with you and
have sex, you know, so, and then of course he's like I'm
broke, and blah blah blah blahblah. It's like, well, maybe
I could just write myself a checkand they're like, what do you mean.
I'm like, well, you're usingmy photos and they're like, oh
my god, I'm so sorry, blah blah blahlah. I got to report
(49:06):
these of course I report them, you know, but report them before you
block them, yes, because otherwisethey're going to do it to other people.
But it's something serious, you know. And to me, it's like
those people who now are like goingafter it because I've I took screenshots all
of this stuff, and I wentto Facebook and Instagram and said, look,
people are pretending to be me andI don't have a verified profile.
(49:30):
Can you here's my driver's license, here's my information. I've been on television,
I have press media views, Ihave a Wikipeda page. What criteria
do you need to know or havethat is going to allow me to get
a verified profile? And they're like, we decline, and I'm just like,
(49:50):
you know, it's a butt Meta, But then this veta Twitter.
Now Twitter and Meta are allowing topay money to verify it. But here's
the thing I'm thinking about it.It's like, if you're a bodybuilder,
a fitness influencer, you know, just a good looking person that gets a
lot of views because of your looks, maybe it's better not to have that
(50:13):
check mark because it almost becomes kindof like a target. A target.
Yeah, you're paying a target onyour face to someone then pretend to be
you to then hustle other people inyour name and your appearance for money.
I feel like about five or tenyears ago those verified things people were more
interested in having them. Nowadays,I feel like they don't really care,
especially since Twitter's started charging for it. They're like, I'm not paying Twitter
(50:37):
anything, yeah or x x XTwitter, You're dead naming Twitter. I
think the X right, Well,it's like the series tower, you like,
what are you going to? WillisTower doesn't even know is it's still
called the Willis They're going to changeit soon. They're trying to sight.
I think it's somebody. It's goingto be something else. What's the name
of the company that owns the WillisTower? Is like Blackstone or something like
(51:00):
that. Not sure, sounds likesome scary evil company. And so you
know, in terms of like dealingwith spammers and stuff like that, it's
not a bad idea to every nowand then just post. I know you
sound like your grandma going I donot give Facebook permission to use my photos.
(51:21):
But you know, it may bea good idea. Say hey,
this is really me, and thereason you know this is me is because
of this facts or information. Butthen again, you're giving somebody who out
to fraudulently imitate you the more personalinformation. And part of it is you
know you know it's me because I'mif you're If you message me and you
(51:43):
want coaching or consultation, just saylet's grow big together. I'll do a
video call with you for ninety ninedollars and we can go over everything you
want to know, from performance enhancingdrugs to your workout routines, your diet,
to your sleep, to vitamin andsupplements, your stress. You can't
do it alone. A good wasthere, a personal trainer, lights of
(52:06):
fire underneath you, a good coach, lights of fire inside deep huh deep
inside? And so you know, for nine nine bucks, just message me
on social media. I'm Fausto Fernos, and I'll be able to help you.
And you know for nine nine bucks, Like all these are the coaches
charge you. I try to get, like coaching a consultation with one famous
(52:30):
bodybuilder, you want to charge methree thousand dollars? Ridiculous. I was
like, so, if you're seriousor not, are you free? I'm
like, I ain't got three thousandbucks. I'm like, he doesn't want
you, I know. I'm like, and you think, like Chris Bumps
would pay three thousand dollars to thisguy? Fuck? No. So I'm
like, you know Chris pays himselfthree thousand. Yeah, he's like pays
(52:52):
some pays him his date been late. What's the deal with this? How
food impacts your body on how yourespond to it? This is such a
really fascinating study. And I've alwaysfelt about this that how you think about
food changes the way your body reactsto it. So they did a study
(53:12):
and they basically gave you two groupsof people identical milkshakes, and they were
like one hundred some calories or threehundred calories. Well, to simplify it,
they're just regular metal stakes, right, And so they gave you know,
the first group, they were like, this is a healthy, low
calorie, nutritious milkshake that helps buildmuscle. And then the end, we
(53:36):
want to think, we want toknow how you think. What do you
think about it? And we're goingto do you know, your study,
So study how your body reacts toit, you know, measuring your insulin,
your hormones after an hour after consumingit. Right, And then they
went to the other group and theysaid, this is a rich, decadent,
delicious, indulgent. Sometimes you justgot to treat yourself. If you're
(53:59):
not, you're eating yourself. It'srich and fat and sugar, but who
cares. It's so yummy. Andthe group that thought they were eating the
decadent milkshake, the body reacted unfavorablyto it with the hormone Grellin that that
talks about satiating was reacting in away that basically made them more hungry.
(54:25):
Or so was around you missed, you mixed it up. So the low
quote unquote low calorie one made peoplemore hungry because they didn't feel as satiated
the one that they were told inthe same exact calorie amounts, the one
that they were told was more indulgentand more calorie rich. That one made
(54:45):
people more satisfied, and so theyproduced less grellin, and so eventually,
yeah, they lost weight compared tothe other people. Right, No,
But also the way the it alsowas that the body itself reacted in a
way that it spiked its insulin. So it was a situation that you literally
the placebo effect. How you thinkabout your food changes the way your body
(55:08):
reacts to it. And I'm notsaying go out and drink milkshakes and think
this is hell food or whatever. It's that. And I see about this
like in eating disorders or people haveanxiety or their food tend to be less
healthy because they feel like the foodis out to get them. They have
an adversarial relationship with food, likemeat is bad. You know, I
(55:30):
can't eat that. It's this isnot the other lectins are going to kill
me or this is going to poisonme. And look, I'm not a
religious person, you know, I'mnot going to tell you, but basically,
the act of praying before you eat, or the act of meditating or
(55:50):
giving thanks, even if you justsit for a moment and express this food
is going to build muscle. Thisfood is going to be good for me.
I am grateful for the world thatI live in that allows me to
have this nutrition, this food here, whether it's a burger and fry,
well, it's taking out that momentbeing mindful. Mindfulness is the thing that
(56:13):
people really talk about a lot thesedays because you're in that moment, you're
taking inventory of this kind of stuffand it's you know, in many ways,
it's a form of meditation. Soyou know, you're lowering your stress,
your anxiety, your pain, yourdepression. You know, if you
have high blood pressure, maybe that'sgoing down because you're just being in that
moment and saying, this is thefood I have before me, I'm gonna
(56:35):
enjoy it. It's gonna nourish mybody, and that can be a great
stress relief, you know, soinstead of like you know, sitting on
your phone while you eat, justbe conscious of what you're eating and enjoying
it. And I've noticed that, you know, I like to be entertained
while I eat and stuff, andI shouldn't be on my phone as much.
But it's like, even at thebeginning of the meal, if you
(56:57):
can just sit down and think aboutjust clear your mind, lower your stress,
lower your anxiety. It actually increasesyour insolent sensitivity, so your body's
ability to digest whatever you're putting init. When you anticipate, when you're
expressing gratitude and kindness and love forthe food and the world that you live
(57:17):
in before you eat, it's actuallygoing to have a measurable positive impact on
your health and your ability to growmuscle. So put the phone down,
stop and just give thanks. Ifyou're a religious person, pray. If
you're not a religious person, expressgratitude and thanks. Just give yourself thirty
(57:38):
seconds or a minute to just clearyour mind, look at the food and
imagine how delicious it is and howwonderful it is. So when you eat
it, it gives you the maximumbenefit to your body. And that is
all we have for for let's growbig together. Thank you for listening or
appreciate your supports. Yeah, soif you want some coaching from me,
(58:02):
you know, it's it's pretty awesome. I do have a couple of positions
available, so not you know, because I try to give people my full
attention and it's like I don't wantto have When I hear people coaches that
are like I have ninety clients,I'm like, well, clearly you're not
connecting with all your clients, right, So a good coach is going to
(58:22):
have a small number of clients inmy opinion, because it's like they're able
to mindfully react and guide you.Message me, let's grow big together on
Instagram, Fausta Fernos or Facebook, and together we can build better bodies and
make you help you grow and achieveyour dreams. Because honey, life is
(58:45):
short. Get big or try,you know, or die trying. And
