Speaker 1 (00:13):
Oh look, it worked. Welcome, let's talk Broncos.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
You may not have to adjust your stream. My hair
really is that red. It's nice to see everybody preemacist.
Joey Richard, Zach seekers, Guys, it's been a while. I'm
really excited to be back chatting Broncos football with you.
It's officially NFL season and I couldn't be more thrilled
because we're back at it here at let's talk Broncos
at least I am sorry for my extended absence before

(00:40):
we get rolling here, Zach first, how are you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
And did you miss me?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I did? I did. I'm very glad you're back. It's good.
It's a nice little family reunion we've got going on here.
I'm excited to be talking Broncos together that it feels
like the season is firing up with you returning. If
he was like another I don't want to use harbinger,
but it feels like a harbinger of despair, except the

(01:07):
Broncos not despair.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
It feels like Bruce Brown's back doesn't know yet a
similar feelings. That's except we might have won even more championships.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
He had integral piece to leave and now she's back.
It's great. We're doing great. Here.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Let's talk bron because I'm excited. I have not seen
these people, says not, I haven't. Zach went on what
felt like a six month vacation. Brie has been. We
don't know. I have no idea and I don't know.
I just feel like I've never seen these people before.
So yeah, I'm doing well though.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Good Zach, it looked like you had something to add
there the facials throwing me off.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Man, it looks good. I love it. It's just it's
a whole new look.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Guys. I just I haven't seeing you. I'm giddy with
anticipation and excitement, much like I am for the Denver
Broncos season, because I think it's important victory. Lap says.
Everyone has been at MIA. You know that's the best
time to do so you want to go and you
want to enjoy some time off.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Do it in the summer.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Right, there's a tiny window because everyone says football is
a fall sport. No, it's an all year sport. And
I just had to take a breather. I was in Missouri.
I got eaten alive by mosquitoes. Zach had a much
more what I want to say cushy vacation. That's okay.
I'm not holding any recessment there. It looks fantastic. Both

(02:35):
were water oriented, Joey has been living the dream and
we're back, and so I don't want to digress any further.
I just wanted to set up a little self service
of hearing you guys say you missed me, So thank
you for that, and let's jump right into it because
just around the corner a highly anticipated Denver Bronco's training camp.

(02:55):
Now you may not be able to attend in person
because it's limited to eight hundred people and tickets went fast,
faster than they have gone the last couple of seasons
with it being a ticketed only event. So we're hoping
to keep you posted as those dates roll on, we'll
get you a schedule of how often you'll see us.
But before then, there are some anticipated conversations about what

(03:18):
are we looking forward to, who are we looking forward to,
what could possibly go wrong? Because as we're all very
excited and optimistic about this season, I think there's a
couple of things that could spell a disaster here for
the Denver Broncos. So we want to give you the
spectrum of excitement, the wow O meter, if you will.
I don't think we'll call it that, but I'm going
to TRADEMARKT just in case. Yeah, yeah, I'm glad you do.

(03:40):
We'll do offense next week, but we're going to start
on the defense. Gentlemen, I want you to give me
an idea of what your most Yeah, Victory Lap says
he's been busy in the summer schooling the boys on
the court. You gotta take on those high schoolers while
you can before they get back into school and they're
too busy to compete. They'll also be out of the

(04:02):
gym soon, so that's understandable. We're gonna be going over
kind of storylines and anticipated players from training camp as
we go into the season, but we're gonna start on
the defensive side of the ball. Guys, I want to know,
are there is there an anticipated camp battle Joey, I'm
gonna go over to you first. Let's start with camp

(04:23):
battle in general on the defensive side of the ball.
You got a couple of interesting storylines that I could
see you up for here. Right, You've got Drake Greenlaw
coming in with that linebacker group. Right, is there going
to be a potential camp battle. You don't have to,
you know, name names necessarily, but I think it's important
to know. There's some positions here that are coming in

(04:44):
really heavy, especially with those off season acquisitions. Safeties and
another one. You got Hufunga out there. I don't want
to feed you too many of them. What's rattling around
with you when you think about camp battles on the defensive.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Side, I think the one that I want to see
them is there's been so much talk about the cornerbacks
and who's actually going to start at the outside corner
back position.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
I've been very opinionated on it.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
I've been arguing with people since draft day about who
I think is going to be the starting outside corner.
But I'm excited to see it. I think both guys
in camp will get opportunities playing the position. I just
want to see who's best at it. It's a position, guys,
where trading camp is an athletes driven thing, and you're

(05:30):
going to see athletes excel. Cornerback is an athletic athletic position,
so you're going to actually be able to sit and
look and tell who is actually going to be the
better outside corner there between Riley Monster, Jahe Barron. So
I think that's my number one on the defensive side
of the ball that I'm looking for.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
I just want to see who wins that battle.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yeah, to force an analogy, I think the defense right now,
it's like a Placid lake and this is the big
old stone you're throwing into it, and all the ripples
will come off of it and touch everything else. Because
if Baron wins, which I think there's a very good
chance of what happens to Riley Moss? Is he competing

(06:13):
with McMillan for that Nickel job? Is that all of
a sudden one of the hotter training camp battles and
same thing if you know, if Baron doesn't win, what's
happening in base defense? Because other element of that is
or sorry Nickel, because what Joey's talking about is who's
going to be starting opposite Patzertann and based defense when

(06:33):
you only have two cornerbacks out there. And Baron might
win that job, but whether or not he wins it,
the Nickel question is still out there. What's your best
three at that point? Is it Sir Tan on the outside,
Moss on the outside, and Baron on the inside where
he also looks to be very good or are you
better off? Is the gap between Baron and Moss greater
than the gap between Baron and McMillan, and you'd rather

(06:55):
leave Baron on the outside and have McMillan bump into that,
you know, main slot corner roll. I think it's the
biggest and the most important battle for the Broncos defensive
training camp approaches. I'm really excited to see how it
plays out. I think my early money is on Barren
outside in Bay's defense and then maybe sliding inside a nickel.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
What a great problem to have as you both run
through the roster there that exists in cornerback. We always
talk about defensive backs always at a needy tier when
it comes to off season acquisitions and what you're looking
for when free agency starts. But Zach, a little birdie
told me that you had thrown out the idea that
a Jaquan McMillan could be somebody who could be on

(07:40):
a roster bubble. Is that something that you said, am I?
I don't want to misquote you, but I am interested
where you think he falls in the depth chart when
it comes to that secondary. Is he still kind of
sewing what he was able to plant last season through
a great stretch of the season, or do you think

(08:01):
he's going to be challenged enough that he could be
pushed down the roster.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
I think he could be pushed down the roster. I
think you know, this is his last year under contract,
he'll be a free agent coming up, and I don't
think they would cut him. But he could absolutely be
useful to other teams in the league, where the Broncos
maybe come to a point. Also, he's on a very
cheap contract, so it's very tradable almost actually literally any

(08:25):
team could absorb that salary and remain cap compliant. And again,
a lot of teams could use an upgrade at nickel
corner or at least some more depth there. The Broncos
if they like Abram's drain, I know he's the premiery.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
But.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Both in college, so that ability is definitely on the table. Again,
you have Baron, now you have Moss, who's also shown
an ability to kick inside, not at the pro level,
but in college. You think he could hold up to that.
So yeah, it's just it seems like a chance to
turn an asset that you might have rotting on your
bench outside of you know, however, often you're in dime

(09:02):
and you have multiple slot corners on the field. You know,
you could maybe flip him for a fourth fifth round
pick and then maybe only suffer a minor downgrade if
you feel good about, you know, one of your other
guy's ability to either kick inside or one of the
young guys like Chris Abram's strain stepping.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Up, Joey.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Question to you, since it seems to be flooding the
chat right now, Riley Moss, where do you see his
impact happening? Because, as Victory Lap is pointing out, Broncos
Country was kind of quick to turn from being highly
in high anticipation of his play to being frustrated through injury.
Right Is this a sort of a comeback season for

(09:46):
Riley Moss? Does he have a lot to gain or
lose in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
I don't even think there's anything to come back from
other than injury. That's that's my main thing. Everyone turned
on him after the injury. Injuries can greatly affect your play.
I mean, it's an athletics sport. If you can't move
like you were supposed to, especially at cornerback position, you're
going to not play as well. I don't know why

(10:12):
everyone just turned so far on Riley Moss. It doesn't
It just seems like there wasn't much critical thinking of
why he was so good at that one point and
then so bad at another point.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
It doesn't make sense.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Other than hey, yeah he played bad against T Higgins,
damn good football player, and then also just was coming
back off from that injury. So I think his impact
will be very similar to what it was last year.
I expect him to be the outside corner on this team,
the boundary cornerback on this team opposite Patricksartan. I mean,
I would probably even say that I think he's gonna

(10:46):
win that. As far as in base coverage over John A. Barron,
at least early on in their career, I could see
John A. Barn you know, eventually going to that where
he can be a boundary and slot guy. But I
think year one, it's gonna be a lot for this
guy to learn everything and giving him two tasks. Let's

(11:09):
just make sure he feels comfortable in the inside before
I want him wake him a boundary guy.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
I think that's definitely important. And last question for whomever
wants to take it concerning cornerbacks and the secondary Speaking
of Jade.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Any concerns.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
I know we've heard a lot about the contract negotiations
or lack or wherewithal Do you have a concern level
when it comes to that holdout in general? I've had
the conversations ranging from not really worried about it because
there's not public bickering, but also kind of worried about
it because you're one of two a rookie stand or holdout. So, Zach,

(11:51):
I'm gonna throw it over to you first and foremost
concern level as we're talking about, simply because he came
to mind when you mentioned him.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah, No, I don't think there's any tangible reason to
be worried. You know, he's not missing practice now. That
could change here in two three days if they don't
lock him up and training camp starts. If he's not
under contract, his agent will, and wisely, because injury could
happen and that could screw things up for him, will
advise him to sit out of camp. So they better

(12:19):
figure this out pretty soon here. Right now, there's not
any tangible drawbacks, but I am worried about it just
because it seems like bad business to me. On Broncos
Country tonight when I've been producing or whatever. Benjamin Albright,
the Broncos insider, has said that the reason, at least
to his understanding, is they're kind of waiting on the

(12:40):
slotting of the Shamar Stewart contract with the Bengals, or
however that situation plays out. Don't be waiting on the
Bengals there. They are not the organization who you're like, well,
let's see if we should follow in their footsteps. They're
notoriously cheap and unfair to their players, especially as financial
practices are, and their ownership's one of the poorest in

(13:02):
the league. It's not the Walton Penner family who's got
more than enough money to not have to penny pinch
over these small things, Like I really hope it's not
that I just can't imagine what is happening with the
Bengals situation that isn't like slimy penny pinching that you
have to hold up on to see, like if you're
hoping they win, that stare down and as a result,

(13:25):
it becomes precedented that you don't have to guarantee you
can kind of do this weird workaround for the first
round pick guaranteed money. Don't do that to Jade barn Like,
that's not good for locker room culture. Even if like
you don't care about the ethics and just want to
talk about on field, that's not good for team culture
if you're just doing that to your rookies as they
come in the building. So that's one. Uh yeah, I

(13:48):
just I think sort it out, Like what is the
problem here in camps right around the corner? Same thing
with R J. Harvey.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
Yeah, is it a.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
Little concerning that we have two guys in this similar situation?

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Well, how often is it agents right that are pulling
those cords and they are telling their athlete like, no,
you want to wait, No, you want to wait? Right,
These guys don't know any better. This is their first
iteration through the process, and the person who's supposed to
be advocating for them is the one kind of directing
the ship, not saying that's happening here, but to make
an assumption and a presumption of where we're at right now, Joey,
I am doubly concerned that there are two players in

(14:21):
that specific situation because simply because of the formulaic response
to that, right, if there's one. Okay, if there's two, question.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Mark, yeah, sorry on the two. The reason there's two
so every almost every team in the NFL right now
has one because Jaden Higgins, the Texans rookie receiver, got
a fully guaranteed second round contract and he's the first
ever second round pick to get that. And so now
to breeze point, because you're dead on right here. All

(14:50):
the agents are now telling their second round picks don't
sign unless it's fully guaranteed. Let's see if we can
make that the precedent. Then in the same way, you know,
the Bengals are trying to that a precedent that helps
the teams. Now you have the players holding back seeing
if they can set a precedent that helps future second
round picks with fully guaranteed deal. So the RJ. Harvey one,
I'm less concerned about because that seems more par for

(15:13):
the course. I considering the financial flexibility the Broncos have
going forward and just how rich ownership is, I would
just pay the guy a fully guaranteed contract. The second
round pick contract is not that big, it's not prohibitive.
Just like who cares, dude, Like it's the sixtieth pick
of the draft. I could pull up how expensive it

(15:33):
is right now, but it's really the life of that
deal is probably under seven million dollars over four years.
It's fine, fully get the guy on the field that's
more important to whatever than that two million in dead cap.
Three years down the line might be. I just figure
it out, and that's where's the Broncos front office.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
I was leaving time for.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Jody Drumpin also didn't want to start talking while I
was muted, and I couldn't get my mask to go
over quite far enough.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Thanks. It's a great conversation.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
It also makes me think about all the collusion between
the NFL owners and the NFLPA and all that information
that continues to break, and you just start wondering about
are we in for another replacements here? And would the
NFL even risk it? No, but they've got to turn
things around. Brandon Hallam said all rookies demanding guaranteed contracts

(16:27):
would change the game, now, wouldn't it. I understand why
organizations could be not so quick to jump on a
fully guaranteed contract, specifically after the Deshaun Watson debacle, but
at the end of the day, that should have just
been a better vetted process. I think that you pay
what you end up reaping from a situation like that. However,

(16:50):
you're going to start to see these players advocate for
themselves at a higher level, and I think this is
just the natural maturation process of holding individuals kind of
at bay, simply because the old school way used to be,
you should feel privileged to get this contract from the

(17:10):
NFL and welcome to the league. This is what you get.
There's no questions asked. Well, now they're the commodity and
they've figured it out pretty quickly. So as we continue
to keep a pulse on this, Zach, I know you
wanted to pop in here.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I hope all rookies get their contracts guaranteed. I think
it would kind of fix a big loophole that teams
have been exploiting for a while now with the rookie
pay scale. We talk about rookie quarterback contracts, but it's
true at wide receiver, at edge, and as all these
contracts are skyrocketing, the rookie wage scale is barely climbing
every year. It's the best place to find a discount

(17:48):
at any position. Those discounts are just more meaningful at
quarterback and receiver and whatnot. Those contracts aren't probably going
to shoot up in value because of the crap shoot
nature of the draft. But make them fully guaranteed. You've
done the work through college and everything too. And again
pick sixty R. J. Harvey. That's a seven point three
million over a four year deal, which by NFL standards

(18:10):
is peanuts one point whatever a year, one point seventy
five million year. That's nothing by NFL standards, so it
should be fully guaranteed. In my eyes, it's not going
to really hurt the teams. We're not talking about anything
that's going to sink anyone. It gives these players coming
into the league a little bit of a fair or shake,
because when the cbas are getting negotiated, the one party

(18:32):
without a seat at the table are the rookies. Because
they're in college, they can't negotiate for themselves. It's the
reason why they've kind of been the most exploited group
as these new cbas come in. Fully guaranteeing those rookie
deals would level it some while also not like screwing
over teams. I think that'd be a good solution.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Let's take a break in our onslaught of just covering
everything Denver Broncos.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
No, I think it's great.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
I'm so excited to be back because we have lots
to talk about. But I do want to get to
a little special feature we're.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Going to be rolling out. Here's Zach.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
You want to take it away on the new mail bag?

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Yeah, uh, guys, get involved, ask some questions and everything.
We're going to be doing a weekly mail bag. I
think is Miam. I want to be putting it out
on Wednesdays. It'll just be a quick five to ten
fifteen minute show where I'll be going through a handful
of your questions every week. It's all variety of whatnot.

(19:35):
I've got a random question selector and we're just we're
we're riding by the seat of our pants. It's fun
stop by. We'll talk about a variety of Broncos topics.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
A variety and it's going to be back to you, Zach.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Since Joey gave his I want to know what's an
anticipated camp attle you have over on the Defense.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah, one, I'm really excited for here. I'm gonna go
with Safety three. I think that's gonna be very interesting.
Telln know who Fong is starting on one side. We
know that Brandon Jones is starting on the other. We
know that what's happening with PJ Locke because if he's
fully healthy and recovering from that spinal fusion surgery, which

(20:21):
sounds pretty scary and intense, which no NFL player has
come back from. I don't know how many players have
undergone it, but no player has had this surgery and
continued playing to our knowledge, or at least to PJ
Lock's knowledge. So what is the case there? Is he
the same dude, then he's pretty clearly safety three. Is

(20:43):
he nowhere near the same guy? Then it's wide open?
Is it de Laren Turner?

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Yell?

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Is it JL Skinner? They signed Sam Franklin that that's
kind of a free agent sign He no one's talked about,
and with good reason. But maybe all of a sudden
he gets in the mix. And I think if PJ
is I know, seventy eighty percent of who he was,
he still might be good enough to be in the
mix for that battle. But maybe all of a sudden
it's not a runaway case for him as the third

(21:10):
safety on the team. So just also as someone who
has a rooting interest in PJ.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Locke.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
He supported our show early on, obviously coming on as
a guest. I'm really curious about that, but also because
I think it's going to be a large part of
the Broncos defensive plans. This also ties into the cornerback thing.
If John Day Barron doesn't win the outside cornerback deal
and you want to have some of those three safety looks, okay,
well maybe he kind of is that third safety, fifth

(21:35):
defensive back, kind of operating the same way as a
nickel corner. Would you know, maybe he helps cover that
void in the defensive depth chart. So that's what I'm
very curious about. Also, not only for the PJ. Lock factor,
but this is a make or break season for delay
and turner yell for j L. Skinner or you know,

(21:55):
they might be at the very least off the Broncos
maybe out of the league.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
You have Jail Skinner making such an impact on special
teams too that I don't necessarily think he has to
worry too much about that. But this is the year, Zach,
I would have to agree for me, he starts having
all of those snaps on defense, right, Like, that's what
you hope if you're contributing as much as you are
to special teams. But now with the Broncos focusing so
much on the three entire phases of football, especially bringing

(22:22):
in a Darren like, I think you're just in a
better position to see how much Jail Skinner can affect
the game of football. So I wouldn't worry too much
about him. But I did also want to point out PJ.
Lock and whether or not he's healthy or not before
I throw it over to Joey takes the idea that
you're resting the rest of your laurels in that secondary
to Dty Devin Key and a floating safety where you're

(22:43):
just sending everybody at that point.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
So I'm worried about it.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
I'm significantly concerned, not because I don't think PJ. Lock
can get it together, but that's a huge life altering surgery,
So it just brings your confidence level down a little bit.
On what was specific on paper, Joey, how do you
feel about that number three safety as Zach put it.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
I didn't think he was going to go so niche
on that.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
But I love it.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
No, it wasn't interesting.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
I was laughing forgetting because you're like one I'm really
excited for safety three.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Yeah, this is a football nerd, right, he loves football.
He loves it. No. I think it's interesting too for
all the reasons you said. I PJ. Lock, that's someone
I'm going to be rooting for heavy this next year.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
To your guys special teams comments and stuff like that,
I mean that could be a determining factor for who
gets that spot. Jael Skinner is a great special teams player,
as you both mentioned, but I think people may forget
that PJ. Lock made his name in this league originally
off of special teams, so like that's something that he
can also contribute in if he comes back down again,

(23:53):
He's going to have to be somewhat similar of an
athlete and stuff like that to run as all the
way down there to make a tackle on punt or
kick or whatever he has to do. You still have
to be athletic. You're still in the NFL, and matter
of fact, the players that are best at those are
running hit.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Players, which is what PJ. Locke was.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
It will be interesting though, and I wouldn't I wouldn't
forget about Devon Key either. He made this team last year.
He was high on the depth charts originally. I mean
I remember in the preseason he was getting starting time
sometimes with the Broncos there, so yeah, I mean he
did play a little last year and it was an atrocious,
atrocious game, but he still could make the team. It

(24:37):
is going to be interesting. I don't know who wins this.
I don't really have a prediction on this one. I guess, Zach,
do you have a prediction of who ends up winning
that spot.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
I think it's gonna be PJ Lock kind of in
my bones. I just I'm hoping he's coming back from it.
It reminds me of I was watching the Quarterback Series.
I guess it actually made me think of PJ. Lock.
But Joe Burrow. They're kind of hyping up his comeback
in like the first episode, and the wrist injury he
was coming back from was something that no NFL quarterback

(25:12):
had ever come back from before. And if his defense
was better last year, he maybe wins MVP. So and
that's a risk.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
PJ.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Lock's thing is a back, like they're wildly different. But
I think it's a case of this isn't like an
ACL in two thousand and nine, where it's a pretty
common injury and no one has ever come back from
it at like a really high level, and then Adrian
Peterson kind of breaks that barrier in twenty twelve. It,
at least to my knowledge, it's less like that and

(25:40):
more like a thing that just not a lot of
dudes have done before. Now to that point, we don't
know if he can come back from it because it
hasn't been done by a lot of dudes before. But
I'm optimistic that he'll be okay. If not him, my
money would be on JL Skinner. Bree's point about the
special teams thing was really strong. I totally overlooked that
he is probably locked into a ross spot because of

(26:00):
that special team's ability. He's the only one you can
say that for and you know that's going to help
him maybe get looks on defense too, you know, reward
him with some reps. That's how PJ. Lot got his start.
You know.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Yeah, I love it points all around, It does just
beg a little bit because there have been question marks
throughout the secondary. When one individual goes down with injury
for any length of time, whether it be a couple
of weeks to half the season, you have to wonder
about who and how they're going to bring up, but
that is all based on how many they decide to
keep there in the secondary, and I say as many

(26:37):
as possible, because we know what happens late into the season.
That'll be an interesting to watch. It'll be kind of
sort of similar to the wide receiver conversation. I know
we're going to have down the road, but we've covered
so far cornerback and now we've covered safety number three.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Just get it right.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Make sure you know where we're at right now.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Christopher Hert distracted me. It's good to be back. When
did the leads or Weezer joint?

Speaker 2 (27:00):
Let's talk Broncos?

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Who is this man with the beard? I could see it?

Speaker 2 (27:04):
Yeah, Zach, are you starting a folk in indie folk band?
By any chance?

Speaker 3 (27:10):
I look just like Buddy Hawlly. What can I say?
It's the one I know.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
I can tell you.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
I'm not a Welaser fan, honestly, it's just noise to me.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
But I guess that kind of leaves.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
I guess that kind of leaves the conversation in a
In a similar discussion of middle of the field, right,
I could go the entire defensive line, because the question
is is how much of this is going to impact
what contracts look like going into twenty twenty six. I
do want to highlight that we will be fully watching

(27:45):
Jonathan Franklin, Myers, Niko Benito, Zach Allen to see what
that's going to look like as far as how the
Broncos pay them, But you can't ascertain that information during
training camp. But I do think it's important to note
does somebody step up, does does the depth start to
show out simply because they know this is their opportunity

(28:05):
to kind of step in and make a name for themselves.
Is the drafting of a saveon Jones where it's going
to make the difference?

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Here?

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Is DeAndre Tillman going to have another breakout year where
it really bodes well for the Broncos and the position
that they're in. Because if you would have told me
in twenty twenty four that the and Zach did, I mean,
I still recall the conversation. I was sitting right here
and he was like, well, they're not going to keep
all three of them, and I was like, how dare you?

Speaker 1 (28:32):
How could we not do that?

Speaker 2 (28:33):
So I just want to say I'm heavily invested in
what that sort of organically works itself out to, like
who starts really showing out otherwise there's a bigger can
that we have to literally a bigger can that we
have to kick down the road because they're giant human beings.
But let's just talk about Zach's favorite player on the
Broncos roster, and that's in the linebacker group, Alex Singleton

(28:55):
and Dre Greenlaw. That battle there at linebackers going to
be interesting because you have all of these individuals coinciding
against each other, obviously playing on either side, but Drew
Sanders justin Sternad, I'm failing to Laville Bailey, you have
all of these guys who have to take another step

(29:16):
in this process. So how does linebacker iron itself out?
And is Alex Singleton going to come back from his
injury and and and kind of make up the production
that he missed last season? Zach, I'm going to start
with you because I just want to see what buttons
I pushed to get you talking? What is what does
linebacker work its way out to?

Speaker 3 (29:38):
For you guys, we're laughing at how niche my selection was.
I was avoiding the mouse trap that was me taking
to Alex Singleton. Is Alex Singleton going to lose his
starting job. That that was some stinky cheese. I was
going to leave that for you guys, and and look
at me. I'm not bringing up that Alex Singleton might
lose his job. Re brought it up. Let's remember that

(30:00):
right now. But yes, he's absolutely on the hot seat.
I think he was really strong in twenty twenty two.
Twenty twenty three was I think a pretty meaningful regression.
I will say so. I always parp on him missing tackles.
I do think I've underrated the value of him always

(30:20):
being around the ball or being the first man there
and he's maybe missing a tackle but he's slowing down
and impeding the play. I think I've undervalued that. But
you know, still he's missing tackles at a high rate,
and he's a problem in coverage. That's like not your
dream linebacker, to say the least. Drew Sanders was drafted
to eventually take over for him. Now it's kind of

(30:43):
been slowed because of injury, bouncing around multiple positions, but
it seems like he's finally settled into that home at
linebacker now, and I think he could be a good vance.
Joseph linebacker. You know, he has to develop some coverage
skills for sure, But in terms of that guy, you're
just blitzing a lot having him go forward more often
than not, which also isn't that different than what Alex

(31:06):
Singleton's doing in this defense. You know, Drew Sanders can
maybe fill that role, So I'm curious if it's this
year or next. But the Broncos are kind of incentivized
with Singleton's contract coming up, them needing to make a
decision on Sanders sooner rather than later. They're kind of
incentivized to get Sanders some playing time over Singleton. So

(31:26):
I think that's an interesting dynamic, not that that's gonna
be the deciding factor, Joey. This is a team chasing
wins now, but they are incentivized in a way they
aren't with Singleton, so I'm curious to see how that out.
And then Lavelle Bailey is a guy the coaching staff
clearly likes. I wouldn't expect it to be him, but
maybe he makes some noise. I totally overlook justin s Ornad.
I mean, he was the best of the bunch last year.

(31:48):
I think you are. Alex Singleton was pretty good at
the start of last year, he's probably ahead of Sternod,
but you know, he was definitely the best of the
backup guys and by a wide margin. He just really
struggled down the stretch. And I wonder if defenses have
figured out how to bully, or offenses rather have figured
out how to bully.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
I don't think you have to worry about Stanad falling
down the rinks too much again with that special team's
knack that he has, but I think it opens up
a conversation. I really did want to get this conversation
back and rolling though, because it's an important question that
has to be answered. If it's even a fraction of
what it was, that was already a sore point for
the Broncos roster, and there are concerns, whether you want

(32:27):
to admit them or not, that there's an you know,
it's high for me, it's in like the eighty five
percent range that dra Greenlaw tweaking his leg is a
little bit of a concern just going from the strength
of the linebacker group. So not saying the competition solely
rests there, but there is an idea that the room
needed to be as strong as possible for this defense

(32:49):
to really start off hot, which gives them an ultimate
advantage to start this season. Joey anything to add.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
To that, uh, I just think I think that they
need this.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
I would project that it's Alex Singleton and dra Greenlaw.

Speaker 5 (33:06):
That's my projection.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
I think that if they didn't feel comfortable in Alex
Singleton's recovery, they would have done more than just Drake
Greenlaw here. And I think their back up in option
to hey, Drake Greenlaw where Alex Singleton gets hurt is
bringing back Justins for not And then the way I
look at the other two, Lavell Bailey and Drew Sanders,
I mean Drew Sanders still has the Hey I was

(33:30):
drafted as a second round pick attached to his name,
but we're years removed from that now. I think that's
pretty much gone. I don't think you can say that
about the guy anymore. He's going to be fighting for
a roster spot just like everybody else on this team.
I don't think that they look at him in any
special way any longer. I really hope he can make

(33:50):
it work. I think, I mean, we keep bringing it up,
and it's going to be something you have to bring
up when you talk about these guys battling for spots
on the roster, it's going to be special teams. Can
Drew Sanders make a difference on special teams? It's going
to be massive for him. He brings a unique skill set.
He's big, very tall, gets in passing windows very well

(34:12):
coming out of college. And then of course also him
as a rusher is going to be valuable. But can
you put it together?

Speaker 5 (34:19):
Can this work? I don't know?

Speaker 4 (34:22):
So yeah, I think your locks here are pretty much
green Law Streannad and Singleton. Outside of that, we're really
trying to figure something out.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
We don't know with either of those guys.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
I think Sanders has a good shot with what he
showed on special teams last year in the past fresh ability.
But Joey's right, he'll definitely have to earn a spot.
My last case against Singleton because you know, I'll go
down with the ship here. Yeah, you know it, you
know what ready. So the argument Joey just made for
why Singleton will be a lock to be a starter,
you could have absolutely made for why Tim Patrick is

(34:55):
going to be a starter last season and they ended
up cutting.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
H Yeah, well I think they felt okay, with like
Valet and those type of guys.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
It would take, It would take.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
And what was that they'd have to feel really good
about Sanders.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Yeah, they would have to, Like there's not the new
shiny toy of between LaFell Bailey or Drew Sanders.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
It's it would be them having to.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Show out, especially when you're dealing with Drake Greenlas's injuries
as well. Like that's something that you have to think about.
It's it's scary to move off.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
Of anybody really.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
I mean, if anything, that Broncos might come out of
training camp and be like, hey, we need to improve
our third and are scanning cuts to see if they
can get a better third linebacker in this room. I
could see that as a possibility.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
All Right, I'm gonna go the other direction, and I'm
going to start with Joey on this one. Is there
any player you're excited to watch on the defense?

Speaker 5 (35:58):
I mean, I already said John A.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
Barn I mean the Funga, right, Haufunga is gonna be
a blast. That guy's a ridiculous, like fun player to watch.
He flies around like a missile, reckless abandonment out there,
doesn't doesn't care whether he's hurting the other player or himself.

Speaker 5 (36:17):
On the field.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
She doesn't care about his own safety playing football, super
fun player. I mean, this is a guy I think
people forget he's an All Pro esque player just a
couple of years ago.

Speaker 5 (36:27):
So get that back.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
If the Broncos can get that, we are cooking with
hot grease. So that's a big what if for the Broncos.
What version of him are we getting? And it's really
the healthy one or the injured one, that's really what
we're trying to figure out, because a healthy one is phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
I'm I'm so excited for it. Joey stole one of
my top answers here. I cannot wait to see Whufanga
flying around. I think Broncos country is gonna love Hufong.
I know bre Mastis is gonna love her some Talano
Hufanga once this season gets.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Rolling flags everywhere.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Just mention, no kidding, It's like you strapped a jet
pack onto Kareem Jackson. That's Talanohufanga. It is like, that's
not terribly far off comparathon Joey is it like.

Speaker 6 (37:15):
He's thinking about all the headagery. I mean, I was
just I was having like flashbags in my head. If
the great Jackson is.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Yeah, yeah, but did the ball advance downfield? No, you're welcome.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
He's gonna punish folks, and I just and there's only
so much of that you can do in camp. But
one thing that makes him able to level all these people,
the reason he's always in position to lay out these
ferocious hits and make plays NonStop, is because he's incredibly smart,
incredibly instinctive, knows how to make plays at the catch point,
whether it's laying the dude out or creating a takeaway.

(37:54):
I'm excited to see the combo of him and Brandon Jones,
who I think if we were still in Quarterback Wilderness,
Brandon Jones would have gotten talked about a lot more
last season because he was one of the nicest surprises
of the season. Just we were also caught up in
PS two's amazing season and Nick Benito and Zach Allen,
and it just kind of got overshadowed by all the

(38:16):
other great stuff happening on defense and of course the offense.
I just I think Talanoufanga and Brandon Jones is going
to be a blast to watch. But that new element hufon, guy,
I can't wait for It's going to be very exciting.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
I have like all the little fun goosebumps all over
me because I am very excited for it, especially when
he gets open. There's a lot of downhill movement available.
It'll be nice to see him open it up and
see what we still got, right, Zach, I have to say,
you gave me a little bit of PTSD because you
said Brandon Jones and then you said Brandon, you know, quarterback,

(38:52):
and all I could think of is Brandon Allen. The
year of the Joe Flacco year where Flacco goes down,
Brandon Allen has to save us, and Chad Kelly is
getting beat with a vacuum somewhere. Anyways, I detract. It's
just where my brain went. It's been a while, guys,
but I'm happy to be back. Zach Siegers, tell me
what player are you excited for? Since Joey stole Hufonga

(39:15):
from you.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
He's crazy and Brandon Allen and Joe Flacca weren't even
the worst starting quarterbacks that year. Anyways, onto the onto
uh who I'm both excited to watch? Uh No, he
was great, That's what he was good. He had the
Texans game and the Chargers come back. I I kid
with my my Drew Lockslander. Anyway, we're not kidding.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
He was not good. We can stop. We don't have
to appease people. Drew Locke was never good. Stop shout
out to everybody with.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
I Uh, I'm excited to watch Q Robinson. What is
it qu Darius I think is his full name. I'm
stealing Carson Devitt's answer or great Minds think alike. Either way,
the reports we were hearing about this guy in Rookie
Mini camp were absurd, and there's only so much thought
you can put in him because there's really no contact.

(40:09):
There's no real blocking in that section of OTAs and
Rookie Mini camp. And then we had Orlando Franklin on
air on KOA and he was talking about how like, yeah,
when a rookie's doing that to me in non contact OTAs,
I make sure to give it back to him once
the contact starts up. So I'm just curious to see
what is Q rob like. Is he this incredible find

(40:31):
because I think there's reason to believe that his past
rush win rate numbers and like pressure rate numbers and
everything are among the elite prospects in this class, the
Abdual carters and whatnot. He just played like three games
at his entire career at EDGE. He's otherwise been a
career special teamer, So I'm curious, you know, is he
maybe a diamond in the rough? Is he just a

(40:53):
great special teamer? Now that we're going to start to
see contact, you know, with training camp getting rolling, I
think we'll get somewhat of a feel for that. So
I'm very excited to see what he is exactly.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Joey's still mine, and I really don't think there's anything
else to cover in that vein of it. But I
do want to talk about what's still bothering us, because
even though we're excited, and even though the Broncs have
done a ton this offseason, they were definitely winners, and
I grade that at a high A, I still think
that there's some questions that remain out there, and it's
probably driving us all crazy. So we're probably all in

(41:26):
the same vein of thinking. I am going to throw
it out there because I want to know on a
scale of one to ten, one being the least amount
and ten being the most. Zach starting with you center position.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
How much of a question work is that still for you?

Speaker 3 (41:42):
Center? Like Luke Wattenberg. Yeah, okay. I don't know why
I got thrown off by this because.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
We were talking about defense and I just decided to
throw that one out there because we're going into training
camp and I have questions.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
No, I love it. I just I'm not being critical
at all. I just I was like, wait, are we
talking linebacker? I was just I had a total brain
fart moment. Luke Wattenberg, I feel better than most. I
know a lot of people are down on him, and
I think I know Patrick, Keyoti and Mario are pretty
down on him. He got a lot of heat on

(42:17):
altitude adjustment this past season. I think he's solid. I
think if he's your worst starting offensive lineman, you're in
a pretty great spot. He did really well in pass
pro last year. I think you'd like someone who's a
little more dynamic in the run. It was also his
first year starting. I wonder if that improves with time
playing the position, if he's able to fire off the
ball a little better. I don't know, But again, if

(42:40):
he's your weak blink, I think you can live with it.
As his contract comes up. I would be definitely open
to keeping him. I wouldn't. If it's like a Lloyd
Cushionberry situation where he's looking to reset the market, he
can walk. But if not, if he's you know, looking
for just like a mid to low level starting center deal,

(43:01):
I have no problem making him the starting center for
the foreseeable future. I don't think that's a position you
have to move off of. If an upgrade presents itself, great,
you know, jump on it. You know, if you're like
where the Bucks were a year ago and there's a
Graham Barton staring at you, like, yeah, take the guy,
get the elite center. But I don't think you have
to be sweating that personally. I think it's a C

(43:23):
minus C minus.

Speaker 5 (43:26):
Okay, we're doing letter.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
Grades here, Yeah, I asked for a one through ten.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
Oh I forgot the prompt.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
So I'm going to give you how many stars do
you get at A Oh no, that's Micheline ratings. I'm
going to give you a Health Department grade of a
D for going off of the ranking that I gave you.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
But also what else?

Speaker 2 (43:48):
Okay, well, then it's I gave you the color orange
because you can't see it, Joey.

Speaker 4 (43:57):
I don't worry some level with him. I'm gonna go
maybe a six. I think I think last year he
wasn't very good. Honestly, I just don't think he was
very good. I'm very much in line with like Patrick
Keyoti and stuff like that, but I'm also cognizant of
that the center position is the easiest position to kind

(44:19):
of hide on your offensive line, so like you just
have more help at center than you do at guards
or at tackle, and it's easier to hide these guys.
Of course, it would be nice if he goes downfield
and gets that extra block or is able to help
on the combo and push more, push a guy out
of the gap and anything like that, but in reality,

(44:42):
that's not what we have.

Speaker 5 (44:43):
I have a a six. I don't.

Speaker 4 (44:44):
I think you can live with it, but I don't
think it's like a plus having Luke Wattenberg on the
field for.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
You, Okay, so it's a negative. You're giving him a
gnus Zach, I can't. You have to go look at
the recurrent chat that's going on, and he didn't sign it,
so I was yelling at him, so everyone knew it
wasn't me sent it. If you want to know what's
going on, go on over too. Let's talk Broncos on YouTube.

(45:11):
If you're watching over on Twitter, just click the In
the description below, Zach puts the link in the box.
Anything else that is pondering, puzzling, k andfuzzling or intriguing
you about the Denver Broncos defense heading into training camp,
Because guys, it's right around the corner.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
We are twelve days away.

Speaker 4 (45:32):
I think we kind of covered linebacker, right, I mean
on a worrisome level there, I would probably be higher
than it center for me. I think that's probably one
of the most recent things, because I mean said, you've
seen it with Broncos teams in the past, where they
look really good everywhere and that linebacker is just killing them.
We've seen that plenty of times. I remember what game

(45:52):
was it the It was a Fangio game and he
was the coach. My gosh, does anyone remember we had
a linebacker never even heard of on the field.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
No, no, no, I know, a J. Johnson. It was
because of injuries we had to play. Some guys got
destroyed in this game.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
Depends, right.

Speaker 5 (46:15):
Was it the Browns? What Browns?

Speaker 4 (46:20):
I think it was the Browns and the running back,
the guy, the third string running back. Yeah, that game
in particular, we've seen it where the team looks okay
and the linebacker just kills you.

Speaker 5 (46:33):
I I'm just.

Speaker 4 (46:34):
Hoping Kenny Young. Yes, we traded for Kenny Young and
it was Jonas Griffiths. Yes, that was actually it right there.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
Yeah, but shout out to Carson Divis.

Speaker 4 (46:46):
But uh, yeah, so I just I'm a little worried
just because you have one both linebackers coming off an
injury one, I mean another injury away from we could
probably call him injury prone. Like that's something that we
just worry some there. So why I said earlier that
third linebackers a big one for the Bruckers.

Speaker 5 (47:05):
They're gonna need it.

Speaker 3 (47:06):
Yeah. With Dray Greenlaw's health being the question mark there,
you know, there's a good chance that number three guys
starts a good handle. Alex Singleton's health is a question too, frankly,
So good chance whoever that number three guys is is
starting games. So have to unearth one one thing I'm
concerned about, uh who steps up on the defensive front,

(47:27):
because as bre referenced, and with the cap going up,
maybe they can find a way to keep everybody, but
they probably can't. Whether it's Nick Benito, whether it's John Franklin, Myers,
whether like someone, something's probably gonna have to give and
they're going to let some of these guys walk. How
do you let those guys walk while maintaining the defensive
line as a strength of the team. You do it

(47:49):
by having Ke Robinson or Jonah Ellis or Andrea ed
Toonemans step up on the edge, and you have Savean
Jones and h I mean Avian Jones. I guess it's
the youth interior guy. You need saving On Jones to
step up and show you something going forward. Malcolm Roach,
he's got a deal coming up too, is up. He's

(48:11):
in his later twenties, but is maybe the air apparent
to like a John Franklin is a very different rule
henningson right.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
Hennyson was able to really turn that up a click
as well. So you've got a lot of firepower in
development coming up the ranks, which is great, but you
have to see now like this is the year where
a lot of decisions have to be made for what
it's going to look like down the road, because you
cannot kick it as they've had a tendency do so,

(48:42):
specifically in the trenches. Now do I think George Payton
and John Payton are going to do that? No, because
they've already showed us that they're willing to invest and heavily.
So maybe, Zach, You're right, we don't have to worry
about them not being able to pay that because if
it's if.

Speaker 1 (48:56):
It's not.

Speaker 2 (48:59):
Market more appreciable by going and finding somebody else and
paying them but load more money thinking that you're gonna
get the same amount of production, then I think the
Broncos are starting to get their wits about them. So
that's a good thing to not be concerned about. Joey,
did you have anything on that. I decided to cut
you off.

Speaker 5 (49:15):
I just wanted to say, I'm betting on a Waza rigue.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
Interesting. Oh oh. I took it as a serious comment
for a second. He's like, whoa, Joey's Joey's got it?
Whoz a Rique? Hype?

Speaker 1 (49:30):
I just got it.

Speaker 2 (49:31):
I'm so sorry, Joey.

Speaker 1 (49:33):
That was a really good joke.

Speaker 5 (49:34):
And I'm just I mean, I'm betting on a wasa ric.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
