(00:13):
Hey, everybody, Welcome to lifeand Lyrics with Missy and Lilah. We
are so excited to have you herewith us today. And Church is joining
us, Duke is joining us,and he got over there, Lyla,
We've got Willy over here. Hesays, hello, Hi everybody. He's
the cutest, sweetest pop. Ilove him to death so much. He's

(00:34):
mean, he's mean. Well, bullies Duke. He does bully Duke,
which is kind of fun. It'smean to do. But then Church bullies
both of them, so sorry, which is great. Are we talking about?
You see how this works? Okay, So today's episode Under the Covers,
we are going to be talking aboutcover bands and cover songs and which
one do you like more of thecover versus the original? Do you want

(00:59):
to get started with this to getrunning? Okay? Well, I will
just follow your lead, my love. Okay, Well, the first one.
You know, every girl at karaokewants to do this song, and
it's always girls just want to havefun because that's all they want to do.
Okay, But does everybody out thereknow that Cindy Lauper was not the
original artist? Oh? I do, see you do? I do?

(01:19):
I did not know that for thelongest time. I mean I did by
the time we did this show. But so girls just want to have fun?
Is hazard versus Cindy Lapper? Right, So who would you pick is
your favorite? Oh my god,it had to be Cindy Lapper because I
was like early teens when that cameout, you know, I wanted to

(01:40):
have fun. I was a girl, still am an older one. Yeah.
No, it was just so muchfun listening to that song and she
killed it absolutely, And you knowwhat, her overall style, I think
is what was appealing to so manypeople too. You know, you could
just wear anything, do your allcrazy, just be fun and express yourself.

(02:01):
And she did. She had somuch fun and style in her own
kind of I don't want to say, I didn't even know what I would
call it. She just had herown style. Yeah, it was her
own style, absolutely the style sheshe kind of created a path that a
lot of other people then followed later. Yeah, she just had an edge

(02:23):
and made it fun. And yeah, Cindy Lapper all the way about love
love her, love her me too, And Okay, we're gonna be talking
about this in another episode later on. But she also was in the soundtrack
for the Goonies and made that movie. Like, to me, goodness that

(02:43):
that just made the movie. Iwatched that two nights ago with my kids.
Did you really haven't seen it inso long? And a fun side
story again, my my metal daughterAriana died her eyebrows with Just for Men
and we realized that she had anallergic reaction to it, and she looked
exactly like Sloth in the movie. And so when she came out of the

(03:04):
bedroom with her face swollen, wejust yelled at her, Hey, you
go, Rocky, and I willnever forget that. I will say,
I will forever cherish that memory ofmy daughter coming downstairs a sloth. And
then my kind of attack kicked inthat she was having an allergic reaction for

(03:25):
Just for Men and the mustache creamthat was on her eyebrows. So h
be careful everybody, but it wasvery near and dear to my heart,
you know what, I left youwith a really fun family memory. It
did, It did, and I'llhave to I'll have to submit a photo
for you to air with this podcast. Oh my gosh, that would be

(03:46):
so much fun. All right, show everyone what happened? Sorry, sorry,
oh dear Okay, okay, gothe next one, all right.
The next one was hurt by Nineinch Nails versus Johnny Caps, and I
have to say, as much asI do appreciate nine inch Nails, my
heart is with Johnny Cash. Justcan't compare Johnny Cash the Man in Black.

(04:11):
Yeah, he had such originality andhis songs. I don't know,
I feel like nine inch Nails wascool, ok Johnny Cash was. It's
like being an original. It's likeit's like he was the man, you
know. So for me, JohnnyCash on that one, Okay, all
right, Well, I mean Ihappen to agree with that. And the

(04:33):
next one is so funny, andyou may wait, I didn't know that
was cover. You didn't know? And I used to sing this in the
car with the kids. Yes,exactly. Okay, So what you guys,
what you guys don't is the yearthree thousand and it was recorded by
Busted originally and the Jonas Brothers andJonas brothers. I'm a total Disney mom

(04:56):
like and and Joe Jonas. Ifyou're watching, I have have a huge
crush on YouTube. Oh my god, they're doing fine. I know they
are. Okay, Okay, nextone, Love hurts Everly Brothers versus Nazareth,
and I have to say on thisone, based on the era that
I was raised in, gotta gowith Nazareth on this one for myself personally.

(05:19):
It's it that was. I neverknew the Everly Brothers did it,
so it's part of the soundtrack tomy life, right Nazareth, So that's
my vote. And see, Ididn't know that Everly Brothers did it either.
And I love the Everly Brothers.I love love that completely, but
I agree with you. Yeah,I gotta go with the st on that

(05:40):
one as well. Oh well,I have on that for sure. Very
cool. Now, now the nextone I'm torn on which is killing me
softly with his song ROBERTA Flack orthe Fuji's Ah. I I like the
original. I think I'm going tostick with the original on this one.

(06:01):
I just it's just so good.And it was they I don't know,
they're both really great. There wasa lot of soul through Birt of Black.
Yes, the Fujis for me again, it was like you went so
mainstream. That was really when Igot to know the song. So I
vote no, which is fine becausethey the way that they did that and

(06:24):
the emotion behind it, and itwas brilliantly done brilliantly. That was kind
of like a I can't kind ofweigh it out on them. Yeah,
at least so far, we haven'thated any of the versions. Right,
Well, wait, I'm sure therewill be something. I know there's one.
I'm pretty rude because I hate oneof them specifically. I do,
well, I can't, and I'vetalked about it during previous interviews that I've

(06:45):
done hate this particular car. We'llget to that, all right, all
right, okay, So the nextone, black Magic Woman, Fleetwood Mac
versus Santana. I got to say, I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan.
Huge, I love Fleetwood Mac,was raised on Fleetwood Mac. Gotta
go with Santana. The guitar playingin that song was completely mesmerizing for me,

(07:09):
so that I'm not even gonna tryto hum it because it would be
pretty bad right now, But Santanais the one I would go with.
The black Magic one. Well,Santana is mine as well, because everybody
who knows me and do not killme for this, and y'all at home
don't kill me for this either.I'm sorry. I am not a Fleetwood
Math. Okay, you gotta go. Yeah, I know now and okay,

(07:30):
well here's here's even he pissed himoff. I've had it. You
not love Fleetwood Mac. Duke leftbecause he's and he's telling you is mad
and oh my god, Fleetwood Mac. Okay, but hold me, Rianna.
No. Some of the songs Ilike, I don't. Okay,

(07:51):
I'm just gonna say it. Iam, I don't want to say it.
I'm gonna hate me. People aregonna hate me if I say what
I really want to say. Saywhat you want to say. I cannot
stand Stevie Nix's voice, Okay,I was just gonna say kiss was my
favorite. He's mad, mad, sorry, the ring goes off and do
kids. At first, I agreeabout Stevie. She sounds a little like

(08:13):
she's whining, she's barking. Okay, but Christy was my girl. Yeah.
Fine, the songs, the FleetwoodMac songs were Steve lead but I
like I like those songs. I'mnot gonna like Stevie. I I really
didn't have a problem with Stevie perse, but Christy was just my favorite.

(08:37):
But those memories were so beautiful withFleetwood Mac. For me growing up
that it was good times for me. Now I have been to show and
it was a it was an entertainingshow. What you mean. I'm not
like that kind of hater, butwhen I hear certain songs with certain sounds,

(08:58):
I have to change a chat.No, I got you. I
just have to believe it or not. I feel that way and forgive me.
But about Bob Dylan, his voiceis like nails on a chalkboard.
For me. I hear his voiceand I'm like, what would you love?
This is someone who seems like this, you know, And I'm like,
you would not make it on America'sguy Talent. We're on American Idol.
I'm like, you're no Daughtry dude. And I understand that he was

(09:20):
a classic for the time and peopleall love Bob Dylan, But for me,
I'm just like, what, yeah, you don't I And sorry for
all of you who love that.I know that these are just our opinions.
You guys are We're not trying tolike be hate. No, and
if you feel differently, that's whywe are not trying to my opinion anybody.
But in my opinion, it justis like a sound and I realize

(09:41):
he has his own sound. It'sjust not a sound that I would choose
to listen to, right, So, which of our choices. It's like
you like chocolate, I like vanilla. It's fine. And I'm not saying
that he's a bad artist. I'mjust saying he's not the artist for me.
Exactly, so exactly, all right, all right, So the next
one is for you. And Ibrought this one up in our last podcast
you did, and it was rightas I was having to put on my

(10:03):
glasses and I cracked up laughing.I got my answer on this, okay
already, Yeah, Blinded by theLight. Bruce Springsteen versus The Manford Man's
Earth Band, Okay, I'm allabout miss Springman. Oh No, Bruce
Springsteen to me sounds constipated through everythinghe sings. I can't do it.
I'm sorry. And I know alot of people are to be like you
suck Lilah, but seriously, everythingsounds like he is pushing out something that

(10:28):
it hurts, like everything is andI can't. I can't do it.
The only song that I can listento even remotely is Dancing in the Dark,
and that is only remotely. Ilove music. And I hit on
it. I'm so sorry, youguys, I'm so sorry, but it's
just hard for me because I'm Ithink I'm more about melody than anything else,

(10:52):
and to me that that whole beltingsomething out and choking it out is
just not my thing. But I'mnot saying he's not somebody that's been very
talented and an artist and the wholething it's just not my sound, right,
So just so we're really good. No, it's goodford Man all the
way, all right, and wrappedup like a douche. I remember we

(11:13):
had we had comments about that thoughso many people. Christina there was a
comment by Christina she was cracking oflaughing, and then another one by Tan
and she's like, I still singit that way. Okay, So I'm
not the only the only way. There's some charm in being wrapped up by
a douche, you know, youknow, or like a douche, And
maybe I am one because I don'tlike brust bring steam. But it's so

(11:35):
it's okay, all right, Okay, we're ready. Okay. Oh I
love this one. With a littlehelp from my friends. Okay, the
Beatles versus Joe Cocker, Okay,I'm a fan of both. Now I
know some of these is hard. It's like, you know, do you
want to cut off your right armor your left arm? I gotta choose
the Beetles, That's ye. WhenI got it, I gotta admit,

(11:56):
don't want to toot my own horn. But I met Paul mc party,
oh okay, and I got tosay that it was a magical moment.
He was so cool to me.And but I've always been a Beatles fan.
Yeah, And it started with SergeantPepper's when I was gosh five or
something. It was kind I'm datingmyself, but it was the seventies.

(12:18):
And when Sergeant Pepper's The Lonely HeartClub Band came out, I didn't even
know the Beatles were the ones thatdid that. I watched the Begi's version
and loved the movie and got toknow the entire album based off of that
movie. And I'm a fan ofthe Beatles. So okay, next,
is this one mine or yours?Yours? This is my? Okay?

(12:39):
Torn Edna Swap versus Natalie and Brouglia, I don't know. I have no
opinion, babe, I don't knowwho Edna Swap is. So I'm voting
and Bruglia, I love that song. In the nineties when they killed Confidence
Rock, I had a hard time. I'm not gonna lie with Levana and
all that stuff because it just seemsso dark and Okay, So are you

(13:00):
a not nerv nervan a fan too? Because I am not a nerv I'm
not. I don't understand the wholea libido mosquito thing. I just I
like lyrics. I like melody.I like songs that mean something. I'm
just I'm very into seventy Schmaltz.I like songs with a message. I'm
just built that way, and I'mnot bagging on it. I'm just saying,

(13:20):
right, I'm built. But Natalieand Beruglia was one of those songs
where it came on the radio,I turn it up and not turn it
off. And there was a lotin the nineties where I was like,
like, I'm not happy when itrains, so I'm going to turn that
off, you know. Yeah,I'm not only happy. I like rain
once in a while, but I'mnot only happy when it rains. Yeah,

(13:41):
yeah, this isn't positive. LikeI don't want to know this,
And I think it was during thatperiod of time for me that I was
just just immersed in all of myCD collection and my cassettes and I would
just listen to the same artist thatI loved over and over. And I
didn't listen to the radio because Ididn't like it, right, I just
I didn't. So I just startedlistening to my old CDs, mixtapes and

(14:01):
Garth Brooks. Yeah. That wasjust the way I got through it,
because it was like one day itwas all like positive, you're living on
a prayer, and the next dayyou're only happy when it riends. So
I was like, I gotta go. I gotta stick with what's good for
me. But again, not bashinganything that was going on then it was
just not my night, right,Okay, all right? So next one

(14:22):
like a fire Meat Puppets versus Nirvana. Oh good lord, I knew it
was next. I'm just saying,I don't think I've heard the Meat Puppets.
I'm just gonna go with the MeatPuppets fair enough, because I haven't
heard that version. Plus her nameis cool meat Puppets. I'll go with

(14:46):
that just because I haven't heard it. Because anyway, all right, all
right, So that's why I'm goingwith that one, okay, all right,
all right, alright, So thenext one is Hallelujah Leonard Cohen versus
bon Jovi, And the reason whyI, first of all, the reason
why I picked this one is becausethe version of Hallelujah that bon Jovi did

(15:11):
made me cry in concert, andI was just it was it was just
so powerful and emotional and so andI've heard obviously Leonard Cohen's version, but
I have to go with bon Jovi. I mean, not just because I'm
a fan, just the overall likehow it makes you feel and the chills
and the emotion, like I justhad to go with it for that reason.

(15:33):
Specifically, I am split fifty tofifty on that one because I think
they both killed it. I thinkthey're both beautiful versions of the song.
Sounds a little different based off theirvoices and things like that, but I
agree with you, bon Jovi dida beautiful version of it, Cohens.
So I'm I'm torn on that one, Okay, all right, I'm just

(15:54):
I'm just the next one, Iam not, Oh this one, not
at all. This one's so easy. Last Christmas Wham versus Taylor Swift,
Taylor can take the Backseat. Ilove the Wham version. Oh it reminds
me of high school. And Ilisten to it every year on my Christmas
playlist and with Hay Santa and dothey know it's Christmas? It's actually on

(16:15):
our Christmas playlist. If you guysgo to the Center Stage magazine Spotify playlist,
the Christmas one, it's called theCenter Stage Christmas Wham is on you
know it? Yeah, okay, yeah. I love that song, even
the cheesy video if you haven't seenit, Oh, it's so sweet,
it's so good, it's so good, so cute. I love it.

(16:37):
I love it. But can Iget your thoughts on the Taylor Swift version,
because you probably don't want mine.I'm not a fan, That's all
I'm gonna say. I'm Taylor Swiftis good for She's not my era,
She's I think that there's a lotof overblown promo involved with that, and

(17:02):
with recent things that I've seen.I'm just getting now be less of a
fan than not a fan, andno hate intended on her whatsoever. Just
not a fan. But in thisparticular case of a cover, I don't
feel like she did the song anyjustice. I don't feel like she did

(17:22):
the story any justice. It isnot a happy, fun song. It's
an emotional one, it is,And the way that he sings it,
the way that George Michael sings thatsong, I feel like if he were
still alive, he would have beenreally angry at her version of it.
I don't know, I don't knowthe man I wish I had, but

(17:45):
I just I don't feel like shedid that song any justice whatsoever. It's
not a happy song and she turnedit into one, and it kind of
pissed me off. Well, it'sreally if you think about the song,
it's not really a happy song. It's not like it's heartbreak. But with
the Wham version, it was alittle more upbeat. It was even that

(18:08):
was sad lyrics they made it soundhappier. Yeah, his his version,
like his his emotional delivery though, like you could feel the message in the
song, and when she sings it, it was just it just wasn't it
just wasn't right. It just killedit to me. I just won't listen
to that version. The only time, the only time I'm stuck listening to
it is when I'm like shopping andit comes on to the loud speakers in

(18:32):
the store and you cannot turn itoff. I say, one of my
favorites is all in Want for Christmasis a real good tan. Oh have
you ever heard that one? No? I have kind of play that for
you. All I went for Christmasis a real good time. That's all
I need right now. Oh yeah, that's that's one of my fa summer
just here so I can oh yeah, oh yeah, Okay, So we
are at next one? Is youoh yeah, reminiscing, Yes, okay,

(18:56):
reminiscing Little River Band versus Barry manilowe. Oh, I'm a Barry Madelin
girl all the way. All right. I love Barry too, but I
gotta go with Little River Band onthat way. Y. I love I
love book. I love Barry, but the Little River Band is the one
that I grew up with. Okay, and I grew up with Barry Manewe.

(19:18):
Well, I listened to Barry Mandyand it looks like we made it.
Copa cabana, you know, whichwas another one that her name was
Lila. Yes, my friend Cannis, God rest her soul again. You
used to sing. Her name wasLila. She was a showgirl with yellow
feathers in her hair. Now,had you been with me at Guilty Pleasures
the other nights? I know theysang that song, but I will tell

(19:41):
you I sang it, Lilah, you didn't know. I'm gonna regulator,
yes, oh my gosh. Okay, thank you for that. All right,
Okay, but there's three on thisone, so I'm gonna go with
I'm gonna name three of them.Danny's Song from Loggins and Messina or the
Swan Brothers, but Anne also Stanny'ssong. Okay. I was raised on

(20:03):
Anne Marie. Okay, but Istill my favorite version of that particular song
is Loggins and Messina. Okay.I love Kenny Loggins. Mine's the Swan
Brothers. Oh no, I don'tknow if I've ever heard. Okay,
Okay, so Zach Swan and ColtonSwan they're there. They're brothers. Obviously
they want my boys. And whenI first saw them audition, I was

(20:26):
like, holy crap, I amgoing to be front one of their shows
one day. These boys are amazing, and we have followed their journey from
that point on, and so everyyear, you know, when I whenever
I have opportunities to interview them,we do. But Zach's voice and Colton's
voice together, they're harmony. They'rejust amazing. And that song, that

(20:49):
song is just my favorite version ofit. Really. I don't think I've
ever been so good that version ofthe Swan. Yeah, so you guys
at home, if you have notheard any of these versions that we've talked
about, and you gotta look themup. And I love Anne Marie,
but Literard, not the Loggin's andthe sine on this one. Yeah,

(21:10):
that's the one that like moves mymom. That's the one. Oh,
this one's easy for me, loveand feeling. Okay, we're gonna go
with the Righteous Brothers versus Elvis. Not that I am not an Elvis fan,
because I and Dara holland John Notatesare on their tab. There's three
of them. Oh that's right.Sorry, sorry, and Dara holland John

(21:33):
notes. Okay, I'm a fanof all three. I know they're all
good. They're all good, ButI have to go with the Righteous Brothers
me too. Okay. There's justan emotional thing that happens when I listen
to the Son when the Righteous Brothersseeing it. I don't know if you
remember this, because we both livedin California, and I know I'm sorry
we did. We moved here.Tennessee is now closed. People, Sorry,

(21:57):
I can't move. There's two wedon't need. We don't need our
freeways looking like the four or five. Don't it's starting to look that way.
Oh, I know, Okay,it's awful here. Don't come here.
Just kidding. I saw the RighteousBrothers I was little, I might
have been six seven years old atthe Wild Animal Park in San Diego.
What they played a concert and Iremember sitting there with my bag of peanuts

(22:19):
and the grass peanuts peanuts. Theysaid that came out kind of funny,
it did. Did you hear that? Like out of all words to get
dear sweet baby Jesus. So sowe were sitting there in the grass and
my it was my mom and heryou know, best friend at the time
and her daughter and me and mysister and we just had so much fun

(22:44):
like at this concert. And Iremember eating my bag of peanuts and it
was just it was my mom lovedit. And then the movie Top Gun
comes out right and then that seen, Oh my gosh, and we were
so it was like that was theversion I knew first. Now Elvis's version
is my second for sure. Myhusband is a Daryl Hall and John am

(23:06):
I I'm like the eighties woman thatloves man eater and privatize. Yeah,
oh yeah, Daryl, funny storyabout that that cassette, that that cassette
with man Eater. Okay, dearyou're do you remember the Teddy rocks Bin
Okay, thing was like scary.I have Teddy Rosin still. Yeah,

(23:29):
well we'll do a whole podcast scarythat thing. It was. That thing
was like, you know what,We're going to do a show and I'm
going to bring here and it'll probablylike it's headle spin around that thing.
I do have that. I dohave a scarier toy than that. Still,
it's my talking pee wee Hermandahl.Oh dear god, no, no,

(23:56):
oh my god. Did you eversee Twilight Zone? Yes, talking
teen push him away. I rememberthe talking tea. I can say,
oh yes, yes, scary ashell. Yeah, scary as hell.
But I loved Phoebe's Playhouse. Andthat's a whole other episode, you guys,
We'll do that a whole other time. But I scary. Yeah,
So my my, my Daryl Halland John Oate CD I used to put

(24:19):
it in to the Teddy Roxpin alongwith my bonjo, because that's what we
do it all the time. SoTeddy Rexman looked like he was you know,
well, one day I go todo it. I go to play
my cassette and my entire cassette wasin Spanish. Teddy ate it. Huh.
We don't know what happened, butit turned Spanish. That thing is
possessed, that's what happened. It'sSpanish because of my Teddy Rexman is sweet.

(24:44):
It's scary, he's sweet. I'mbringing him onto the Sherby's Teddy rox
Bin. All that stuff, anythingthat's like electronic that comes to life and
starts spinning out. No. No, my daughter even had a glow worm
when she was a baby that madeher screen. That stuff is scary.
I don't know just now anyway,all right, I know Lila's nuts.
I know it's fine. It's cool, all right. Next one, Oh,

(25:07):
I got this one. No,it's you. Oh I love rock
and roll. I got this one. The Arrows versus jone Jet jone jets.
Oh, hands sense down, handssdown, there's I didn't know who's
the arrows? Yeah, no jetjone Jet thousand percent. Yes, I
mean third, and that's the onethat's on Guitar Hero. Oh and she's
so good, it's so good,so good. And then my brother had

(25:30):
a best friend when I was akid that was so madly in love with
jone Jet, And I told him, even when I was a little kid,
you're barking up the wrong tree, dude. But you know what,
she was beautiful, talented, andhe was barking up the wrong tree.
I just I have a gift.Okay. So Gloria Jones versus soft Cell.
I'm a child of the eighties.Man, it's soft Cell all the

(25:52):
way. Yeah. Who's Gloria Jones? Yeah, it's gonna be. Does
anyone know who Gloria Jones is?Comment? If you do movie, because
I'm pretty good with music except whenmy spinning Neil death happens, which happens
sometimes. But I've never heard ofher, so if you have, please
let us know who she is.Now the next one, like right,

(26:18):
Okay, So she had the samereaction I did, so Red Red Wine,
Neil Diamond or U be forty.I have to go with you beforety
too, because I didn't know NeilDiamond ever did it now? You tell
me it's sweet Caroline. No oneelse can do it. Yeah, exactly,
Red red Wine, that was youbefore. That's what put them on
the charts, I think with thatsong. So I have to go with

(26:38):
you exactly. You said there werethere were memes not too long ago that
was like if you remember listening toyou be to Red red Wine on the
radio, then you be forty, like you be in your forties and stuff
like that, something like that. You might be fifty two. Wow,
we're not. We're not going thereworking fifty two yet. You know we're
not forward? Oh god, thisone. Yes, all right, I've

(27:00):
got my answer here. Come on. Feel the noise from Slade versus Quiet
Riot. Look, Slade did agreat job. Quiet Riot, not car
I remember that Friday Night video fightsThem versus Death Leopard, and it was
when Photograph came out, and I'ma Death Leopard's my favorite band of all
time, favorite ever and the songPhotograph is like I mean, And my

(27:26):
youngest daughter Asia, her car isnamed after Joe. It's Joe Corve Elliot
her car's name, so she's aJoe fan as well. And when the
Friday Night video Fights came out.I got to admit, I was like,
it's got to be Deaf Leppard. But I still live quite right back

(27:47):
then, so Slade did a goodjob. Quiet Riot was better totally.
I was probably ten, but Isat by the TV waiting to watch them
do Get Out every Friday. Iwas into music back then too, So
that's my book. Ye do youdo you remember like the first time you
got to see MTV? Oh,I watched the launch. I was coming

(28:10):
home from the beach with my dadand I was like, you gotta get
us up to bid Fair now,and we were driving up the hill and
it was like August of gosh, what was it? See there it goes
again, Tommy. It was itlike eighty five, I'm sorry, eighty
three, eighty one, August one, August. Oh, okay, I'm
close. It's August night. Ijust know I was really there. And

(28:32):
man, we watched them launch MTV. I'll never forget the first song the
video killed the Radio Star and itwas like Pat Bennet's ar August first,
nineteen eighty one. Okay, SoI was close. I was in the
ballpark of it. I remember sittingby the TV watching that launch, and
man, a new World was launched. It was amazing and I loved watching

(28:56):
all the new videos come out andcrush just born. Yes, oh they
were and I will never forget.I'm I know she might be watching this.
But my mom when when she watchedthe last one. So, but
my mom when George might when WAMwould come on and it was I'm your

(29:18):
man right, Oh my gosh,my mom. She that was her favorite.
And I just remember her being likeso excited and like. And then
as I got older and I realizedwhat the lyrics were, I was like,
oh, Mom was a little feisty. Yeah, that was great me.
That was all Duran Duran and JohnTaylor. He was going to be

(29:40):
John Taylor. One. Did youyou saw them when they were in Nashville
not too long ago? Because Iwas a Yes, that show we went
and uh it was good. Hestill looks so good. Yes, beautiful
man. All right, all right, we'll stop with their crushes. Sorry,
yes, okay, next one toyou, sweetie? Can we just
say something else to the whole comeon, feel the noise everybody at home?

(30:03):
Do you know how they spelled that? Because I didn't know until yesterday.
Oh, I've known. I hadno idea with you. I know,
okay, nothing compares to you O'Connorversus Prince Band the Family. I
gotta go with O'Connor just because that'sme too. That was the one you
heard all the time, and metoo, you know. I mean,

(30:26):
I love Prince. We were listeningto Prince on the way here. Prince
is naughty. He's a naughty boy, but he was good, good at
what he Didnce. I love Prince, but I didn't know he was so
naughty until I was an adult.Have you heard this song? If a
woman answers or something like that,I'll have to play it for you.
Yeah, he's in it. No, have I heard that? I don't

(30:48):
remember her all. I forget whena woman called my sister would know,
Carrie would know. I'll okay,we'll listen to it after a whole Yeah,
I'll have Carrie to me. Okay, next one and ooray. Yeah,
I will always love you. Igotta go with Whitney Houston woman powerful.
Yes that. When I heard hersaying it, I cried, Dolly

(31:11):
Parton. She did a good job. It was. It was a great
song, totally different style, butWhitney there was there was so much with
Whitney that would move your molecules.Whitney is my all time favorite female vocalist
all time. I watched her herreality show with her husband. Okay,

(31:33):
but then I have to file that. You have to file that way.
Wait wait, and then we goback to her voice. I just go
Waitney, yes, and and tooby you know. Unfortunately she you know,
passed away and all that. Butby the time that happened, she
was she was got her stuff together, she got her act together. She
didn't sober, so sad and soyeah. That I think that was probably

(31:56):
part of why it was so heartbreakingfor so many people, was because she
finally was on the right track again. She was getting back on track.
And it's but no her voice,no other female artist, in my opinion,
can hold anything close to her like. They just can't. They're just
not even close. And I lovea lot of them, like Kelly Clarkson,
I love her, she's great, she's got a powerful voice. But

(32:20):
Whitney, it's just you cannot compareany other artists to Whitney. You can't,
and you can't expect that to comeout of such a teeny tiny Yes,
but she was teeny yes, exactly. Man, what a powerhouse.
Totally Okay, Okay, next one, it's my life Talk Talk versus No

(32:43):
Doubt. Okay, I got thisone. I'm gonna go with Talk Talk.
I think that one takes me backto the eighties. Is that a
happy time? It was back whenyou can groove and dance and the bad
eighties rock dance or the bad isdancing, And I like No Doubt.
Oh yeah, No Doubt's version isreally good. It I have to go
with the original, but the originalis right here. It's like, that's

(33:06):
my that's that's my go to.Okay, Now I respect Otis Redding versus
Aretha Franklin. I gotta go withQueen. I gotta go with Aresa.
I'm going with you on that one. Yeah, she I'm going with you
on that one. Aretha is She'sthe woman man. Yeah. And the
song that she did with George Michaeland for the life of me, I
can't I can't think of the nameof it, but that song is I

(33:30):
know one. It is, yesfavorite do what ever spinning wheel of death
that goes on? I know,I know? Why are we doing this?
She was just written notes in themargins prepared. Next this is ridiculous.
Okay, next one, come together, This is so easy. Beatles
Versus Arctic Monkeys. Okay. Ilike the Arctic Monkeys. I think they're

(33:52):
talented. I like a few oftheir songs. Cool with the Beatles,
to be the Beatles, the Beatles, the Beatles. Now Proud Mary CCR
Versus Tina Turner. I gotta goTina Turner because she just made it so
exciting in all Honestly, it's probablybecause of miscongeniality. This was it,

(34:14):
the second one, the second MissCCR on that one. Yeah, I'm
a big CCR fan. Okay,But I like Tina. Yeah, and
I just pipes. Beautiful lady. And she had the best legs, the
greatest legs ever. Beautiful. It'sseventy eighty years old. Her legs looked
better than mine have ever. Lie, I know I never had legs that

(34:36):
age. No, and her legsare gorgeous. Yeah, I agree,
And she's so talented. But mymemory bankcr Okay, that's all right.
But I love Tina No absolutely beon Thunderdome when she was like, oh
my gosh, a lot of badMax movie Man answered movie Okay, Okay,

(34:57):
you talked about this last time.Oh yeah, let's go any and
the Jets. I didn't know theBeastie Boys and Biz Markey did it.
But Elton John, there is noYeah, Elton John, like come on,
like sorry, Biz Marky and BeastieBoys. I didn't even know they
did covers of that. But Iwant to know how many of you out
there knew all of these covers orif you were stumped on some of them

(35:19):
too, because there were some ofthem that I thought, wait, what,
there's no way I've never heard that. No, yeah, I had
no idea. So you did yourresearch well on that one, because I
had no clue whatsoever. Well,I was trying to like get something here
that you know, when they stumpedme, I was like, well,
gosh, if they stumped me,and maybe somebody else might not have heard
of it too, so we'll see. Okay. So next one's you Darling

(35:45):
Borderline Madonna versus the Flaming Lips. Now, I don't know who the Flaming
Lips. I heard Flaming Lips songs, but I'm gonna go with Madonna because
that was like, that was myfavorite favorite Madonna song ever. Growing Yeah,
that was my favorite child, andI was dressed up in Lilah.
Yes, of course I love that, no borderline. I just I thought

(36:07):
it was great. I was sucha leg I loved all of Madonna's early
stuff. Girling. Yeah you know, I material girl a video of myself
lip syncing to that. It wasamong Her dress was beautiful. And then
when she was talking by and allthe guys are just putting stuff off.
We've seen have you seen gentlemen PreferBlondes with Marilyn Roe? She was that

(36:29):
movie and she did a great job. But nobody could be Marylynd, nobody
can be Maryland. But Madonna, you know, did the whole mill.
She was just so cute too.And then her movie. She was in
the movie Desperately Seeking Susan. Iwatched that last night, did you I
love that movie. I was justfeeling nostalgic and I turned it on to
fall asleep and thought, I'm gonnawatch the bad eighties movie that was.

(36:52):
That's great. So that's great Desperatelyand Susan. Okay, all right,
Next one is Higher Ground Stevie Wonderversus Red Hot Chili Peppers. You know,
as much as I do enjoy alot of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Stevie Wonder is like, yeah,I gotta go with Stevie on that

(37:14):
one. Stevie is just Stevie sowell. I just called to say I
love you, and you know,I just I love him. And it's
Sir Duke. That's it. That'sDuke's theme song, even though he's sleeping
right now and he's been a goodboy though he is. They're not yea
anyway. Okay, Okay, thewinner takes it all Abba versus Mac Laurence.

(37:37):
Oh, it's got to be Abba. I mean, I know,
I know what was it. Itwas it Mama Mia, the movie Mama
made what it is? You know, I watched for the first time with
the kids, and I loved itwith Meryl Street. Yeah, I haven't
seen that movie yet, but Iknow my daughter keeps want me to watch
it with her. It's so cute. But she played that version for me,

(37:59):
which is beautiful, and it's mydaughter's favorite version of that song.
But I gotta go with Abba. It's the one. I'm not going with
Abba. My favorite song from them, it's does your Mother Know? Okay,
it's a funny song. Okay, let's see where are we let it
Go? Tina Menzel or Demi Lovado. I didn't know Demie Levado did that.

(38:22):
I gotta say I burned out onthat song. Yes, the Kay
Daughters that were when You're a DisneyMom, it happens. Yeah, I'm
gonna go with a Dina Menzel becausethat's the one I know. I've never
heard Demi Lovado sing it. Ido like Demie Lovato's voice, though,
so I really it's hard to judgewhen I haven't heard both. I've heard
Demi's Levado I've seen I think shedid a video with it too. I

(38:44):
want to say I've seen that thatvideo, But I gotta go with Demi
on that only because I didn't hearit over and over and over and over.
No heirs. I heard the otherone because it was always rewind maybe,
So that's why I'm going with mywith Demi on that. But they're
both fantastic between not just the kidsthat have been around, but the kids

(39:09):
like everywhere and blasting out of carsand anywhere you go, any kid that
you're around, which is sweet. And Halloween every year. Yeah, anyway,
all right, okay, all right, all right, next song,
next one, hooked on a feeling. BJ Thomas versus Elvis, Honey,

(39:30):
I love them both so much.I love now. The first time I
heard it, it was BJ Thomasme too, and I love BJ and
I got to interview him at theFranklin Theater and he was so sweet to
me and I adore him. Buthis version brings back a lot of happy

(39:50):
memories me too, of me singingin the car with my mom, you
know what I mean, Like Ijust so. But I love Elvis and
his version is just it's it's agood time. No, it's not.
I'm gonna go with DJ just becauseof the memory factor. I'm going with
BJ because of my memory factor too, because music has a visceral response in

(40:10):
people, and it takes me tohappy places, it takes me to bad
places, depending on what's going on. If I'm going through a rough time,
I won't listen to my favorite songsbecause I don't want them traveling right
back to that. And if it'sa and so, I'm like play something
like if the kids are playing somethingI'm going through a hard time, I'm
like, don't play that song rightnow. You know. I'll listen to

(40:31):
like stuff that doesn't matter, andso that way it preserves my memory bank.
So now I got you. Justit's it's easier that way. So
I'm home with you on VJA twoon that one. And I didn't know
actually that Elvis did that. Soit's a beautiful rendition. You have to
you have to. I will listen. I will definitely definitely listen. Okay,
when a man Lives a woman,Floyd Kramer versus Michael Bolton, I

(40:53):
haven't heard Floyd Kramer, and soI will go with Michael on that because
in the eighties, Michael Bolton,Oh my god, everybody you say,
Michael Bolton, and that's the firstsong that they in mine like he made
that song. Oh, it wasin all the movies, all the radio,
all the moms loved Michael Bolton. It was for me. It's Michael

(41:15):
Bolton for sure. And I'm nottaking anything away from Floyd Kramer, but
I haven't heard it, to behonest. It's like I'm with what I
know on that one. I mean, I've heard, I've heard Floyd's version,
but I haven't like it. That'snot the one that was played most
right, it was always Michael Bolton'sversion, right, everything It was in

(41:36):
every movie. It was. Itwas radio play. You can't turn the
radio on with that. So forme, that's definitely same here, that's
that's mine. Okay, allkry, batter up girl, alright, batter up,
use somebody. Kings of Leon versusShawn Mendez. M I'm gonna go
Seawn Mendez. I love his voice. I do too, but I haven't

(41:58):
heard the version I have to withKings of Leon because that's the one I
know, okay, and I likethat one though, I do like it.
When you have a daughter who isin love with Shawn Mendez, it's
hard to escape any of his music. He's good though, he is really
good. You can't take my eyesoff of you. Frankie Valley versus Shawn
Mendes. I'm going with Frankie Valley, Frankie Vallad song again, lifelong,

(42:20):
yeah, long song loving right thereyeah, and uh sorry, Haley,
I gotta go with frank I do. But but there's originals that you just
you don't mess with it, justleave it pure, you know. It's
like you can't do that. Ijust can't. All right, all right?
Next One Fast Car Tracy Chapman orLuke Combs Luke Combs to that,

(42:44):
yes, and he brought this youdidn't. He brought that song back to
like number one. She got likeawards for that song twenty years later.
I'm going with Tracy. I'm goingwith Tracy Chapman too, because that was
the version, you know, thatI remember, and the whole beginning of
that is just that was the onethat I That's the one I remember listening
to, and that's the only oneI know, and I like Luke Combs.

(43:07):
But okay, you guys, I'mgetting a phone call. I'm sorry,
Tracy. I thought I had iton silent. I have to do
cancer the phone. That's what happenswhen you are me all right and you
were not careful. Okay. Nextone, Great Balls of Fire Jerry Lewis
or Miles Teller. Okay, Idon't know who Miles Teller. It was
in the Okay, he was inthe Top Gun the Maverick movie. Oh
I love that movie. And hewas singing it at the piano. He

(43:30):
was goose Goosey's son. Yes,Goosey, Sorry, Goosey's son. I
still have to go with Jerry leeLewis. I know me too, even
though he killed it in the movie. He did, but I got my
Mike. My loyalty is with Jerrymine too, also, Hayley, because
Jerry Lee Lewis the third is afriend of mine and I love him to

(43:53):
death and I'm always gonna support himand his dad. And I've met the
second, okay, and at leastI think it was the second I met
the second. I met one ofthe Lewises, So okay, I don't
think it was Jerry Lee. Ithink it was his son. Nothing grandson,
So okay, all right, allright, all right, so let's

(44:14):
see, Well, Jerry Lee Lewisthe third is his son. The second
died in a car accent. Okay, then that's the one. I'm so
you Okay, So you met himtoo, Yes? I did? Okay
in Memphis one. Okay. Yeah, he's super sweet. Yes, okay,
I apologize. My information is welove you, Jerry, not love
Jerry. I wish I knew thatkind of stuff before I open my blond

(44:38):
of mouth. You know what itis, okay, because that's what these
podcasts are here for. It iswe're giving people information that they may already
have and then they may not have. And you know what I mean.
So and hopefully we're giving you guysa few laughs too or not all right
or not? I mean it isall right, Okay, what do we

(44:59):
got pick? Okay, So wehave to share our favorite cover moments for
example, like like if you've beendowntown or you've been at a concert and
you heard somebody that you weren't expectingto do a cover of a song that
you loved and they killed it,and you just that memory stands out to
you. Mine is Nickelbeck they sayingdon't Stop Believing My Journey at a show

(45:22):
in California, and I just waslike, and he didn't do the whole
song, and I really wanted himto do the whole song. He was
so good and I didn't expect it. I didn't expect him to sing that
song and just oh, it wasjust yeah, that was That was my
favorite cover. Mine was I wasin living in South Korea. Living in

(45:45):
South Korea. Yeah, oh dear, yeah, I have to talk more
about that. He was in themilitary, okay, And I lived in
Korea for a while and expect mewith your end. There was a Korean
woman at an amusement park called Everland. It was like their version of Disneyland.
Hilarious. I'll talk about that later, but there was a woman on
the stage singing What's going On fromfour non Blonde and it was fabulous and

(46:10):
hilarious at the same time. Butthat woman belted that song to the point
that like it stopped you in yourtracks. Wow, But yeah, it
was. It was my visceral memoryof someone singing a cover song. And
then and then I have another one. I'm gonna bring Candace up a lot,
because she always made up songs.I have one of my friend Candas

(46:34):
singing Bobby McGhee at a bar andBig Bear. That was the most entertaining
thing I've ever seen. That endedup with me sending my friend Scot over
to stop her because it was soawful but so funny that at the end
we all got the bird because Ihad n't pulled the hook on her.

(46:54):
I have a video of it.We might show you one day. It
was so cute, So so yougot to protect your friends. So was
this like a karaoke night? Thenyou're karaokeing? And she did, but
it was her cover of Bobby mcgaeand so yeah, now could she sing
other songs really well that you lovedor just Esafmila, Okay, all right,

(47:16):
well if we if we end updoing, we will our show.
Oh I've got a few. Ican only sing like three carryos. Okay.
I found the best karaoke song forsingers who can't sing, and if
you all look it up, you'llknow which one I'm gonna do. But
it'll be the one I do,all right, I have. I have
a couple of signature songs. Oneis baby Got Back. That's my song,

(47:40):
my dam oh my god, mabygot back my Oa. It's my
song and it's it's bad, butit's that's like, but it's a good
bad, it's bad. There's aDeggy Fresh song that I do. And
then one from the carpenters called thePiano Picker, and that was entertaining too.
He lists the entire song, soI do as well, and so

(48:05):
it's funny. My kids laugh andI played on repeat to torture them,
and well, you did that forus last week. I did. I
did. Your daughter came out ofher room and she was like, I'm
like, hey, get out here. I have a song to play for
you. She just diod. Shejust stood was just shaking her head.
No, not again, and Katiewill sing it with me. It's so

(48:28):
great, Okay, okay, yes, all right, But that's my favorite
karaoke moment. But my favorite coverband of all time has to be Steel
Panther. Oh my gosh. Theythey are so good, so filthy,
and they really are. They're raunchypeople, but funny, so funny,

(48:49):
and they have embraced the glamor rockOh mysh oh. They're like every glam
rock eighties band so pushed into oneband. And and all the ladies love
sachets. Oh satchel do satchel andand you know, you got to have
a raunchy sense of humor things. But I don't know how many cover songs

(49:15):
they do, like they do aBackstreet Boys one, I want it that
way. And they're so good.I've seen them do guns N' Roses and
I've seen him do Journey and andthat was at the House of Blues one
night and that was pretty entertaining. So that was fun. But but as
far as like cover cover bands go, so now that's me getting no,

(49:37):
it's you. I'm like I thoughtI thought, I turn is actually off.
It just is vibrating. Okay, all right, well, you never
know what you're gonna get here, you don't, you know. But cover
bands specifically, like a cover bandthat does just like covers from the same

(49:57):
artists, you know how they havelike the tribute bands, those type of
cover bands. Yeah, I don'tknow what you call those. What do
you call those? It's not justa cover band, right, It's like
it's a tribute band. It hasto be a tribute band. So there's
one for Bonjovi called Bad Medicine,Okay, and they're really good. And
I know that a lot of thefans that I've come into contact with,
they've they've been able to hire themfor life birthdays and parties or whatever.

(50:17):
But I want to say it wasBad Medicine that bon Jovi actually hired to
play in the lobby of one ofthe shows that I attended like years ago.
Yeah, it's great. And thenI mean there's so many other ones
that I've seen, and if Igot the name wrong on that one,

(50:37):
I mean there's there's a lot oftribute bands for for bon Jovi and for
Tim McGraw, and I mean weknew a lot of them, you know,
And so those memories and those bandsare are fun because they really I'm
like, what you and I weretalking about at the Elvis Festival that we
went to the Nashville Elvis Festival. You were like, Oh, they're Elvis
impersonators, and I'm like, no, these are not the impersonators. These

(50:59):
are the tribute artists. And You'relike, well, what's the different?
Right with a tribute artist they practicethe mannerisms, the looks that the way
that they're performing. They can takea show performance from a specific show that
there's video footage of and they willdo their whole routine like mimic the body,
every move like it's it's every jokethey've studied. Yes, they like

(51:23):
step into the Elmos suit and theybecome right, which is I witness that?
So yeah, I can see thework that went. So that's why
like cover band versus tribute band,I'm a tribute band girl for sure.
When they're when they're doing it reallyreally well. Cover bands, however,
can be so much fun because likewe just well you weren't there, but

(51:45):
we just saw Guilty Pleasures and thento go and they have a huge group
you know, men, women, you know, all all different styles,
vocal ranges, abilities, and theypull out the greatest collection of eighties music,
and so I got to hear Wham, George Michael, I got to
hear Barry Manilow, I got toI mean, they they just did everything.

(52:07):
There was a couple that were alittle bit older than the eighties and
a couple that were maybe in thenineties. Gotcha. But it was so
much fun. And when you havea great cover band that knows how to
like just get everybody on their feetand just they're really energized, it's like
it's like nothing else. Man,it's so much Did you ever see the

(52:28):
one that's in Nashville That is wherethey dress up in eighties characters clothing like
they have RoboCop and they have inthe name of the band. Now of
course here goes Rubic Scroove. Yes, that's the one Scroove. Yeah.
Wait what They were really good. There's so much fun to watch because are
they still like a thing? LikeI haven't seen him and I haven't been

(52:50):
down there in a while. Okay, okay, so they're still doing their
thing, but they like dress up. There was one that was like Edward
Scissorhands and one that was RoboCop onstage, and there Oh, how fun
They're all dressed up is like theseeighties like different parody things, but they
play really well, and they playall eighties music, like they play like
Turning Japanese and they play Darryl hollandJohn It's and they play you know,

(53:16):
Jesse's Girl, you know, allthe songs that we grew up with.
But it's funny because they're dressed upin these costumes. So it's just kind
of like and RoboCop like that's likea that's that's a tough costume. Like
that's heavy. There's a lot tothat costume. Absolutely, and they played
like that. Yes, oh mygosh, I mean even okay, how

(53:37):
do they play as Edward scissor Handslike with the I like, that's crazy.
It's like it's like he's dressed uplike that, but without this.
Okay, I was gonna say thatthat's like is there. It's it's just
a Grace Crean. There's nothing. We'll show you guys the picture so that

(53:58):
you can see as I'm trying tolook at this one. Oh that's insane.
That's like dressing up like the Mandalorian. Yeah, that's huge, full
helmet and everything, and it's sofun to watch. It really is.
My son was at Third and Lindsleyand we had a great time. Okay,
that's where we just saw Guilty Pleasureswas at Third Lindsley. I had
every intention of going. I know, I know, but you know what,
life happens. Things happened and comeon. It was like right before

(54:20):
Easter you had to die Easter eggswith your girls, Like you know,
it's fine. It has fun toprep. No, it's not to smoke.
It's all good. It was tosmoke. I I how do you
cook your hands? This was thefirst year that we put it on the
tragger. Okay, it was sixteenhours. Oh so I had to start
at the night before best ham I'veever made. Really well, we all
kind of collectively did it. Iwas just did my glaze and whatever and

(54:44):
helped get it in and whatever. But usually I do a love and slow
in the oven with signature family glaze. And it's like the face. Did
you see how she says that?So she so that I won't ask for
the rest of it. We giveit to you, Oh my, give
it to you, but it's worthits gold. The rest of is just
okay. Because we ended the restof the glade today and and the it

(55:06):
went out the window and it wasso good, Oh my gosh. And
yeah, so they'll have to waitfor another year. Yeah and make it
again. Okay, okay, itonce a year. It's a lot of
work, but it sounds like alot of work. Sixteen hours on the
smoker and you have to check intemperature four. I just threw it in
the oven. But everybody was like, oh, here, we found this
on TikTok. Let's do this one. And it wasn't so bad. It

(55:28):
was just you know, making surethere was pellets in the trigger. We
should do an episode like that, woulday, where we try all these TikTok
recipes. Oh, I'd be happyto look. We should do that.
That would be fun. Missy andlightlay in the kitchen. Oh my god,
we'll play music. Yes, we'lldo that. It'll be fun.
But stay tuned, guys, becausenext week we have a fun episode.
Another fun episode, because I thinkall of our episodes are gonna be pretty

(55:49):
chill. Today though, I feellike, yeah today, I mean,
this was the under the covers episodethough, Like you know, when you're
under the covers, you're just morein your laxed, so well, maybe
not all of you. Under thecover shore that way I'm cozy in.
