Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eron Olgussen joins us from a visit Fort Wayne and
visit Fort Wayne dot com. As we turn to a
new month, of plenty of things happening in Fort Wayne.
And of course it is the spooky season and they're
in the spirit in Fort Wayne. Specifically at the Fort
Wayne Zoo, they have Wild Zoo Halloween. I would imagine
a lot of fun thing's happening there, Aaron tell us

(00:22):
about it.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yes, Wild Zoo Halloween is a favorite every year. For sure.
It's a great time to go to the zoo because
as the temperature is cool a little bit, some of
the animals actually get more active. But in addition to that,
they have Wild Zoo Halloween, which is happening weekends through
the end of October. And this is so much fun,
so you can come out, bring the whole family. It's
great for young ones because they have lots of very

(00:46):
not scary fun. So it's going to include lots of
spooky animal enrichment, fun treats and games and kids are
invited to wear their costumes. So every weekend they're going
to have a different special theme like tractor Harvest, Superhero Weekend.
You're going to enjoy Pirates and Princesses weekend and then
Mary Mary Monsters to wrap up the month. So lots

(01:07):
of fun happening at the Zoo this month, so be
sure to go and enjoy that.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yeah, and October is a great month to visit the
zoo or outdoor things because it gets cooler and even
in the middle of the afternoon not as hot as
like in the middle of summer. So that's great to
have some fun at the zoo and celebrate Halloween. Speaking
of that, in Fort Wayne, Fright Night is coming up.
Give us what's happening here?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Okay, Well, if you are a fan of Halloween and
this spooky season, Fright Night is a must for you
for sure. So this is coming up on Saturday, October eighteenth,
and it is just a day of Halloween festive fun
in downtown Fort Wayne. So the main event of the
day is the Zombie Walk, which happens at three o'clock
and you can come dressed up as a ghost, a zombie,
a superhero, whatever you like and parade through the streets

(01:57):
of downtown Fort Wayne. So it's probably the slowest moving
parade you'll ever see, but it's so much fun. It's
very festive throughout the day. They have lots of fun
for kids, so there are scavenger hunts at different attractions.
There's going to be Mad Science Day at Science Central,
a pumpkin path display, and other great activities. And then
as we kind of move into the evening, there are

(02:19):
other fun events for older participants, so you can enjoy
Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Botanical Conservatory. They're going
to have costume contests, some spooky themed cocktails at downtown bars,
and then you can also catch Phantom of the Opera
with a live organ playing at the Embassy Theater as well.
So Fright Night is such a fun day. Be sure

(02:39):
to check out the schedule and just enjoy this day
of Halloween fun in downtown Fort Wayne.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Man. Sounds like a lot happening. That is a Fright
Night again. That will be at October eighteenth, So a
couple of weeks from this coming Saturday, time to plan
and to be there. Aaron, speaking of planning and being
there with visit Fort Wayne, our website is the place
to go to start that process.

great information about these events and so many others and
plan your visit. If you just go to visit Fort
Wayne dot com all spelled out, that's where we have
all of this great information.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Absolutely check it out before you go. And also there
we can see what's happening with maybe shows or concerts
going on in and around Fort Wayne. You've got some
highlights for what's happening here here at in October.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
We do. Yeah, So we have a great lineup of
concerts and performances coming up in October. So for concerts,
we have some really great shows. So Modest Mouse is
going to be here on October tenth. Right before that,
Ali and AJ will be taking over at the Clyde Theater.
We have the Mercy Beatles coming and some other really
great concerts there, so be sure to check out the schedule.

(03:55):
We also have some great theater performances, so Broadway at
the Embassy Theater is back and they are bringing Missusdoubt
Fire to Fort Wayne. So that one's going to be
a lot of fun towards the end of the month.
And then this one is kind of fun seasonally appropriate
Twilight and Concert at the Embassy Theater on October thirty first,
so it's on Halloween on a Friday, if you're a

(04:16):
fan of Twilight, you can come watch the movie on
the big screen at the Embassy Theater and it's going
to be accompanied by a twelve piece ensemble performing the
score live. So that's just going to be a fun
way to round out the month and just celebrate this
spooky season in Fort Wayne. No doubt.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
A lot of great things happening in Fort Wayne. Fright
Night on the eighteenth, the Wild Zoo, Halloween ongoing at
the Fort Wayne Zoo, a lot of shows and concerts.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
