Severe flooding over the weekend is blamed for more than
a dozen deaths across the South. The governor of Kentucky
gave an update yesterday said the death toll there had
risen to eleven. Another death was reported in Georgia, and
one person died in West Virginia. Elsewhere, tornado outbreaks were
confirmed in Mississippi and Alabama. Ohio Task Force one has

(01:46):
been dispatched to two, Kentucky to provide aid in the
flood recovery effort there. Ohio Task Force one took off
for Hazzard, Kentucky, southeast of Lexington over the weekend. Meanwhile,
people living along the Ohio Rag in Cincinnati are keeping
a close eye on water levels as the river is
expected to crest tomorrow. It's expected to crest at fifty

(02:08):
four point three feet tomorrow night. That's two feet above
flood stage. The race for Ohio governor is about to
officially get more crowded, but vike Ramaswami's campaign filed the
designation of Treasurer form with election officials. The forum does
not specify the governor's race, but it allows the campaign
to start spending money and receive contributions. The thirty nine

(02:30):
year old biotech entrepreneur and Ohio native made a national
name for himself when he ran for president in twenty
twenty four. Most recently, he served a short time in
President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency. Ramaswami is expected to
officially launch his campaign today in Cincinnati. Some Ohio police
officers are making efforts to keep the roads safe from

impaired drivers and to spot the difference between a driver
who is under the influence and one who is experiencing
a mental health crisis. The one ens Yolanda Harris has details.

They're called drug recognition experts and are employed through the
State Highway Patrol. According to the Patrol, there are one
hundred and sixty three of them across eighty law enforcement
agencies in Ohio and their work stretches beyond that sobriety test.
It takes two hundred hours of testing and training to
become a drug recognition expert, and this current class only
has ten students, and those who pass the most recent

(03:27):
tests are heading to Florida next week for final field
certification evaluations.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's the one ens Yolanda Harris reporting. Speaking of patrolling
the highways, you may have noticed a lot more highway
patrol officers this past weekend on I seventy five. That
wasn't your imagination. It was part of a six state
trooper project that was focusing on speed safety, built enforcement,
and OVI enforcement. Last year, during the same campaign, four

(03:57):
hundred and fifty four drivers were cited for and mental
health is a top priority in Ohio Governor Mike Dwine's
new working budget. Dwine wants to expand mental health services
across the Buckeye State. Specifically, the plan calls for opening
more state psychiatric hospitals, expanding mobile crisis services, and continuing

(04:18):
to fund the state's nine to eighty eight suicide and
crisis hotline. One concern is the lack of available beds
in psychiatric hospitals. The Colubus Dispatch reports that nine out
of ten bids in those hospitals are used by people
who are mandated by the court to be there. That's
