Speaker 1 (00:00):
Speeding in the City of Lima is the focus of
the new Neighborhood Traffic Management program. Recently, data was collected
through a public workshop and a survey, and Mayor Sharita
Smith talked about some of the problem areas that were
identified through that data.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
The number one street I can tell you was Nixon
Avenue off Market, also Saint John's Reese Avenue, Lakewood. So
many of the streets that you know, we've heard, you
know from residents we're speeding is an issue.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
The mayor went on to say the city will have
another workshop to gather more feedback at a later date.
The mayor also said consultants have already given them some
things to work with.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
An interesting thing that we learned from the consultant, which
is contrary to what we think in a practical matter,
is that traffic signals and stop signs are not traffic
calming measures.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Speaking of traffic, some good news for SIMA commuters this week.
The Allen County Engineer's Office said the intersection of Hanthorne
McClain Road has been reopened that had been closed for
a couple of months due to reconstruction work. Also, late
yesterday afternoon, Rob Avenue at the overpass was reopened. It
had been closed for about a week after a large
(01:19):
water main break in the area. The repairs were extensive
and involved a lot of concrete, contributing to the length
of that closure. A Lima man was killed Tuesday night
in Hancock County in a motorcycle crash. The Hancock County
Sheriff's Office says it happened about ten o'clock Tuesday night
on County Road two. They say sixty five year old
(01:40):
Kenneth Reid of Lima was operating his Honda gold Wing
when he struck a deer, causing him to go off
the right side of the road. Reid was ejected from
the motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet at the
time of the crash. He was taken to Blantard Valley
Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. And international news.
President Trump has returned home following the end of the
(02:02):
NATO summit yesterday, where world leaders agreed to a new
defense spending target. Fox's Kevin Cork reports.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
The new benchmark five percent of GDP annually to be
spent on defense by twenty thirty five. Spain, however, refuses
to spend more praise for the US's role in the
Israel Iron ceasefire, and of course, the President also affirmed
Article five of the NATO Treaty, which says, yes will
defend all members if attacked. And quite a bit less
(02:33):
focus on the Ukraine Russia conflict, though Ukrainian President Lodimusolinski
was on the sidelines at the summit.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
That's Fox's Kevin Cork. President Trump has threatened Spain could
get a worse trade deal if they don't agree to
the new spending target. Report cards are out grading the
state's infrastructure and Ohio doesn't look that great. Christy Paul
with WKYCTV and Cleve and the O and N files
(03:01):
this report.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
The American Society of Civil Engineers recently graded Ohio's infrastructure,
and overall, we've got a C. Ohio's rail and solid
waste received a B minus, Bridges, ports and public parks
a C plus.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Schools received a C.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
More categories scored in the C minus range, including aviation, dams, energy, transit,
and wastewater. In the D plus category, we've got drinking
water and storm water and receiving just a straight out D.
Inland waterways.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
That's the one n s Christy Paul. The report also
included recommendations to raise the grades for next year, including
increased investments, focusing on safety and using new technologies to
meet those goals. And Ohio lawmakers have approved a sixty
billion dollar budget and now awaits the governor's signature and
possible line item vetos. The final version of the budget
(03:58):
includes a new flat income tax rate of two point
seventy five percent for ohioan's making twenty six thousand dollars
per year or more. The budget also includes six hundred
million dollars from the state's three point seven billion dollars
in unclaimed funds. The money will be given to the
Browns for a state performance grant and would be paid
(04:19):
through tax revenues generated by the stadium. The Browns planned
to build a mixed use space around their new domed
stadium proposed in suburban brook Park. Haslam Sports Group put
up fifty million dollars into escrow and another fifty million
