Reds take down Cubs in Wrigley; Tribe wins in Queens; Tigers tame Twins; Browns sign another QB; Texas #1, Buckeyes #2

From the w IMA Sports Desk. The Reds beat the
Cubs at Regularly three to two last night to take
the opener in the three game set. Didn't look good
early when Red's at starting pitcher Nick Lodolo had to
leave in the second inning because of a blister on
his left index finger, but the Reds bullpen was up
to the challenge and they got just enough offense. Tyler

Stevenson hit a solo homer, Elie Da La Cruz had
an RBI double, and TJ Friedel had an RBI single
in the seventh for what proved to be the game
winning run in relief of Lodolo. First it was Nick
Martinez who went two and a third innings allowed two runs.
Then Scott Barlow threw two shutout innings, and then Graham Ashcraft,

Tony Santian, and Amelio Pagan each pitched an inning to
finish it off. For Pegan, it was his twenty fourth save.
After the game, Reds manager Terry francona with much praise
for his bullpen.

Well, we got two and two thirds innings out of
our starters the last two games. That's tough.

Nick Martinez had been up twice yesterday, so getting the
lasting out of him was really big. And Barlow throwing
two innings after he's been in six out of eight.
I don't know if people realize like that that doesn't
happen very often.

It's the Reds and Cubs again tonight from Wrigley eight
h five. Again is game time. We'll have the pregame
at seven thirty five. Zach Lateel makes his Reds debut
on the mound while the Cubs counter with Shoto Imanaga.
The Reds acquired Lttel from Tampa Bay last week. He
is eight and eight with a three point fifty eight
or run average. Last night's win pushed the Reds record

to fifty nine and fifty four. There are three games
behind San Diego for the final National League wild card spot.
In New York, the Guardians beat the Mets seven to
six and ten innings. David Fryan Gabriel Arias drove in
runs in the top of the tenth and Nick Enright
got the save. It was an emotional night for Enright,
who was diagnosed late in twenty twenty two with Hodgkin lymphoma.

Last night was his first career save. The Guardians bolted
to a five to nothing lead with five and the
sixth inning, but the Mets tied the game with three
and the sixth and two in the eighth, but manager
Steven Vote said his team didn't flinch.

Yeah, I mean, our guys never quit. Yeah, That's one
thing I love about this group. I'm so proud of them.
They never quit regardless. I mean that that was a hit.
You know, our back into our bullpen doesn't doesn't give
up runs very often, so but they didn't get down.
They stayed up and a little Guard's ball chaos there
to get a going. That's why you have eight guys
out there. And Nick stepped in and what a cool
night for him, his first career save and he was outstanding.

The Guardians continue to dig out of that hole, a
ten game losing streak from last month that left them

and a half games behind Seattle for the last al
wild card spot. The Rangers are between them and the Mariners.

Tigers beat the Twins in Detroit six to three. They
used the long ball to do it. Carrie Carpenter and
Winshiel Perez and Dylan Dingler all went deep. The Tigers
sixty six and forty eight tied with Toronto for the
best record in the American League to the NFL. The
Browns bringing in quarterback Tyler Huntley. ESPN says he joined

the team yesterday. He and veteran Joe Flacco are the
only healthy quarterbacks in camp. Can He Pickett and Dylan
Gabriel are dealing with hamstring injuries, while Shedor Sanders returned
to practice on Monday after working through a sore arm.

Poll for the preseason was released yesterday. The Buckeye is
number two, Texas number one. Of course, those teams meet
and the season opener August thirtieth at the Horseshoe. Recently,
head coach Ryan Day talked about this year. He has
a younger group and it's a tougher start to the season,
and that affects his urgency here in fall camp.

can't you know, quote unquote be learned on the job
in that first week. I mean, we've got to be going,
so we have to flush through as many issues as
we possibly can. No, we've got a long season ahead
of us, but you know, you can come down to
one play. So turnovers, tackling, being clean, missed assignments, penalties
like all those things. You know, we got to be

on top of substitutions because all it takes is, you know,
one play and it can cost you.
