Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm beat map. You're eccentric cartographer of Dallas's winding music scene,
driven and possibly possessed by the thrill of finding the
next great act before the world tunes in. If it's
got a beat, I've probably mapped its route from a
South Dallas dive to a deep Ellen stage. My passion
hearing the city humme at night, whether that's jazz leaking
(00:21):
from behind the Red Curtain or indie pop echoing along
Bishop Avenue. The next week is a treasure chest. Tonight,
dive headfirst into the just hyphen Open Puzzles Deep Elum
on Main Street. It's a reboot of a legendary space,
and this week they're featuring local indie favorites and regional acts.
Think cozy, sultry and a dash of wonderfully weird. Puzzles
(00:43):
doesn't have a regular schedule, so snagging showtimes is a
true insider move. This weekend, I'll slip over to Dallas
Arboretum's summer concert series Picture Absolute Queen tributes with sunsets
over White Rock Lake, both romantic and rowdy, starting around
forty dollars ticket, according to Dallas Arboretum's official event calendar.
(01:03):
If you want a stadium vibe. Doseki's Pavilion is bringing
national acts to Dallas all week long, and you can
often score last minute tickets through the official site or
Live Nation. And for a more intimate dance all night affair,
Saunders Dallas is making a name for itself with everything
from electronic to Latin nights. Reservations recommended but always worth
(01:24):
the effort. For this week's Pick of the week, Venue
Revelers Hall has my heart On Tuesday for the Terraplane
Rounders swing in old school blues from seven to eleven pm,
and every Wednesday for Shelley Carroll Dallas Sachs legend pouring
out jazz that turns any day into a celebration. Admission
is usually around ten dollars, plus you get a free
bowl of red beans and rice during Monday jams local talents.
(01:47):
I can't stop telling people about Night Blooming Jasmine, that
Montana gypsy jazz group booked at Puzzles later this season,
and DFW's own O Sleeper who take Metalcourt to Cinematic Heights.
Always post up front for Shelley Carroll and keep an
eye out for the Bishop Ave Hot Six who transform
Thursday nights at Revelers into a brassy dance party. My
(02:09):
weekly Rhythm Monday jazz jams and free rice at Revelers
Tuesday for the Rounders, then Thursday Swing with Bishop Ave
Hot six. I always pop by Puzzles or Sounders midweek
to catch unlisted pop ups. Puzzles works especially well if
you love your music with a side of deep ellum mystery.
Festival wise, I'm plotting my schedule around the Candlelight tribute
(02:31):
to Adele at Edison's running all the way through November.
There's something about hearing someone like you surrounded by hundreds
of candles that stokes the beat map fire. I'll camp
out for tickets the moment another outdoor fest is announced.
Twenty twenty five's fall lineups are dropping soon on Dallas
Theater and the Dose Equis Pavilion sites. If you want
secret spots, ask me about backyard showcases in Oak Cliff,
(02:55):
or follow me to a warehouse in Trinity Groves where
the only address is third right after the Taco Mural.
Sometimes the city's best shows post to Instagram stories ten
minutes before curtain. My hack is following promoter pages like
Third String Productions and Exchanging texts with venue bartenders because
truly they know everything before anyone else does. For last
(03:16):
minute finds, I live on the Textus service from the
Echo Lounge of Music Hall. They alert me to ticket
drops in surprise appearances. Couple that with obsessive refreshing of
artists and venue socials, and you've got yourself a golden
ticket system. Stay tuned and subscribe to my latest updates
for the wildest, weirdest and most unmissible Dallas music moments
delivered right to your virtual doorstep. For deep dives, exclusive
