Speaker 1 (00:00):
Beauty and the beast. Once upon a time, in a
far away land, there lived a handsome but vain prince.
He was selfish and unkind, and one cold winter night,
an old beggar woman appeared at his castle door, seeking shelter.
Disgusted by her appearance, the prince refused her entry and
sent her away. In response, the beggar woman revealed that

(00:22):
she was a powerful enchantress. She cursed the prince, turning
him into a hideous beast and his servants into furniture.
The only way to break the spell was for him
to learn to love and be loved in return. Before
the last pedal of an enchanted rose fell. Years passed
and the beast lived alone in his cursed castle, his
heart hardened and bitter. One day, a kind hearted young

(00:46):
woman named Bell, the daughter of a merchant, found herself
in the beast's castle. After her father was imprisoned by
the beast, Bell, with her courage and kindness, offered to
take her father's place in exchange for his freedom. The
beast reluctantly agreed, and Bell stayed in the castle. At first,
Bell was terrified of the beast, his fearsome appearance and

(01:07):
temper made her weary, but over time, as she spent
more time with him, she began to see the gentleness
hidden behind his monstrous exterior. The beast, too, was touched
by Bell's kindness and her ability to look beyond his appearance.
They shared long conversations, and Bell taught him to read,
while the beast showed her the wonders of his enchanted

(01:28):
garden and library. Though they were very different, Bell and
the beast formed a bond, understanding each other in ways
no one else did. Bell found herself caring for him deeply,
but she never thought she could love a beast. However,
one faithful night, when the beast was gravely wounded protecting
Bell from a pack of wolves, she realized how much

(01:49):
she truly cared for him. In the depths of her heart.
She finally confessed her love. As Bell spoke her heartfelt words,
the last petal of the enchanted rose fell, the beast,
lying in her arms began to transform. His fur melted away,
his claws became hands again, and his features softened into
the form of a handsome prince. The curse was broken.

(02:12):
The beast had become a man, and Bell's love had
saved him. The two embraced, grateful for the second chance
they had been given. The Beast, now the prince he
once was, had learned that true beauty lies within, and
Bell had learned to see beyond the surface. Together they
lived happily ever after, ruling the kingdom with kindness and wisdom,

(02:34):
their hearts forever intertwined, And so the curse was broken
and the kingdom flourished once again, as the love between
Bell and the Beast became a timeless tale for generations
to come.

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
