episode of Make Every Death Count, brought to you by the Slashcast Podcast Network.
We are your hosts. My nameis Nick, my name is Riley.

(00:49):
Here with episode number one eight.I think, yeah, whatever,
whatever does it? Insubordinate turlish? Here were review you in five nights at
Freddy's brand new release, Went sawon a Thursday night, look at us.
We didn't watch it on Peacock. We paid to go see it.

(01:11):
Yeah, because that's what real fansdo. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I wish I wouldn't have it wasyeah, yeah, yeah, five nights
of Fridays. For those that don'tknow, I mean it's iconic video game.
The video game in of itself verysimple. You sit your your security
guard at Freddy Fasbar's, and youhave a limited power supply, and you're

(01:38):
sitting in your security office and thesescary imagined Chuck e Cheese animatronics are coming
to life and working their way towardsyou, and you had to choose whether
or not going to keep a dooropen or keep it closed us your power
supply. And yeah, you justset to try to keep these scary animatronics
out of the security office throughout thenight, survived the night Five Nights,

(01:59):
Five Nights ad Freddy's. Yeah, that's how it works. That's the game.
There have been novels released for fivenightsive Fridays. I've seen some of
the lower of them, not reallyhaven't gone super deep into them. It's
deep, though, it is deep. The story behind five Nights of Freddy's
and the anima trynks and all thatis pretty deep. So a movie is

(02:22):
people have been dying for it tohappen for a long time. We got
Willies Wonderland, Yeah, which Iprefer over this. We'll start there.
Yeah, Willies knew what it wasdoing and it was consistent. We'll get
to that. We'll get to thatfive Nights of Freddy's. Yeah, it's

(02:42):
been it's I mean, such amassive fan base, the point that I
mean, they sell toys for ahorror game in the kids, sexually,
they sell toys for finansive Freddy's.Uh, and yeah, it's just been
around forever. There's been a tonof games. I haven't played all of
them, but I played the VRone. I'm scary, played the original.
I played the one that I stoppedmy log out. I don't even
know how many there are now five, There's a lot I don't know,

(03:07):
so I'm a little out of theloop in terms of the gaming rule now.
But the original was scary. TheVR one is really scary. It
gave me a lot of anxiety justtrying to navigate in that world. And
VR it's very real, scary real. Yeah. But now the movie,
and I'll readly the synopsis, it'sexactly what I pretty much just said.
But yeah, A troubled security guardbegins working at Freddie faz Bear's Pizza.

(03:29):
During his first on the job,he realized that his night shift won't be
so easy to get through. Prettysoon, he will unveil what actually happened
at Freddy's. Yeah, so we'reto be diving to spoilers here, just
a heads up. If you haven'tseen the movie, I mean, you
can go watch it. I guessit's on Peacock. It's on Peacocks,
so you can watch it for freeif you have Peacock. A short,

(03:50):
short review without spoiling anything, butdon't think it's good. No, I
actually like I think the more Ithink about it, the more I like
Passionately, I'm like, wow, that was bad. But yeah, that's
your short review. I wouldn't recommendit. No, it was. It
was pretty bad. Yeah. IfI mean, if you if you really
turn your brain off, you couldsure you could have a good time,

(04:11):
have a couple of drinks. That'swhat it would say. There are some
things to appreciate in it, allright. So it's stars Josh Hutcherson,
who I you know, grew upliking Josh. He's a good fellow.
Matthew Lillard of course, is inthere. That's cool, not that long,
but he's in there. Yeah. The animatronics are extremely well done.
They're they're only they're so well donethey actually look fake. The Fox Yeah,

(04:35):
look, there was the only onethat the whole time it was on
screen. I'm like, that lookslike CGI. But we saw the animatronics
when we went to h Jen Yeah, Holly hornit's Hollywood. They had them
on display at a Blumhouse event, and yeah, we like they look like
that, they're legit, They're they'revery very good. So I'll say that.
I mean, the animatronics are extremelywell done, to the point where

(04:57):
there's they don't even look real. There's so well done, and so that's
saying something. And yeah, I'mout of positives. I don't I don't
mind the little girl. She wasfine for a child actress. She had
moments where she did some things, certain mannerisms. I felt so real with
like a kid that I don't know, like I don't want to say on

(05:19):
the spectrum. I don't know whatI was feeling with her. I know
I got those those vibes. Yeah, just either either like on the spectrum
or just pure pure innocence. Yeah, and you know, not to mention
they're kind of like dealing with theloss of their brother, like that's still
there in the back of their minds. So yeah, she was like very
isolated, no friends, imaginary friends, you know, even struggled to she

(05:43):
struggled to communicate with her brother. So but yeah, she didn't even did
certain things like the way she ran. Like there was one scene where she
ran. I was like, wow, yeah, you were just an innocent
little child. I conveniently in thetheater sat next to maybe eight year old
nine year old girl, so shewas. She was getting upset in some

(06:05):
tense moments. She was invested.Yeah, she also clapped at the end
of the movie, and I wantedto punch her. It's like, all
right, well she started clapping, and people were like, who the hell
is a child? And they started, yeah, did you see? Did
you see what? So she shestarts clapping and then someone the people in
the front and join did you seeher look at us? Yeah? Ye,

(06:26):
She's like, come on, like, no, stop, noice,
stop, no, ma'am. Iwill not collap for this. I don't
clap for many movies in general, much less one than I think sucked.
But yeah, yeah, I don'tknow. I didn't really have high stations.
I had like kind of mid expectations. And then I saw some of
those early reviews and they all didn'tlike it, exceptybody discussing him. Of

(06:46):
course, I just I thought itmissed almost every single mark. Absolutely thought
I thought the scares were bad.I thought even like the performances were bad.
Josh was alright, but he like, man, I was like,
I don't like what I'm seeing ita Legit looked like he was just reading
off a teleprompter. Yeah, itwas just a little too. They couldn't

(07:10):
decide what they wanted to do.It's like they were sometimes they were waying
into the scary and they were theywere having fun with that, and then
they were even like having moments wherethe this scary this like the jump scares,
were trying to be funny, likethe fucking Bobblehead. And then they
go into full like straight comedy wherethey're friends with the animatronics and they're sitting

(07:31):
around playing games with them, andI'm like, what is going on?
The the end of the second actwas just straight comedy. Yeah, yeah,
like you there's there's a point whereyou forget it's a horror movie at
all, Like it seriously just feelslike a kid having fun and playing with
the animatronics. And even when thepace kicks back up and like Freddy's at

(07:53):
their house, it's you just allthe all the scare is gone, like
there's zero, it's gone right hopefullyhopefully. Yeah, spoilers ahead, definitely
from here. But but yeah, then like the taxi Yeah, yeah,
right, like that was I mean, And they had they had a couple

(08:13):
of YouTubers in the mix. Theyhad Matt pat from Game Theory and he
even said, well, it's justa theory that the best part of the
whole movie, honestly maybe And thenuh, I forget the taxi driver's name.
Not someone that I watch, Yeah, but he was. He's like
a comedy YouTuber and he did alot of H five Nights for Friday his

(08:35):
videos and and horror game videos andhe was a taxi driver and that yeah
again, it just yeah, thelast the last half of the second act
was just comedy movie. Yeah,And as somebody who doesn't like know the
lore extremely well, and maybe there'ssome people are like, yeah, they
they hit the book on the headand maybe I don't know, I don't

(08:56):
know if they they nailed the book, but if that is how the book
is portrayed, I don't like thebook either then, because I didn't like
the dreams. Like nine times outof ten we were in the dreams.
It was. I didn't like anyof it didn't make any sense. No,
the whole movie doesn't make any sense, which is fine. I mean,
they're animatronics to come to life, right, and you got to try
to explain why the animatronics come tolife. And then there's these ghosts and

(09:18):
these kids and okay, even thescares they were trying to do, like
the one kid had, like thebleeding eyes at the black goo come in
his eyes, like it just noneof it worked. I don't know,
and I couldn't get invested in.I started off invested in Garrett and the
brother that was kidnapped. And thenas time went on and they're explaining like,

(09:43):
oh it was Matthew Lillard, itwas it was Freddy's all along,
Like Freddie kidnapped your brother the wholetime. You just happened to be a
delinquent. You just happened to gethired here at Five Nights of Freddy's or
at Freddie's Fast Bears, and yeah, and you it all just worked out
perfectly. Then, for some reason, the daughter, the cop who was

(10:05):
sucked from the second you see herbecause she's she's a fucking cop who spent
her entire shift at Freddy's. Uh, the way that they're like, have
her explained and how she she's liketrying to help, but does it so
fucking poorly. She's like, Igave you the best hints I could what
you could have just have just saidit? Yeah, Like, what do
you mean I tried to let youget there on your own. Well,

(10:26):
clearly it didn't work. Well what'sthe point. Yeah, like you're you're
in danger. Yeah, like you'reclearly helping your dad out. I don't
understand. You don't want to helpyour dad. You don't want to help
your dad. Yeah, then youshoot him, then he stabs you.
I don't know, man, Yeah, she didn't wake up. I just
didn't give a shit about any ofit. No, it was rough.

(10:48):
No, I will say not ifyou don't know any of the story of
Five Nights of Freddy's. Uh thetwists, sir, all right? Which
one like matt Matthew Lillard, Idon't know that felt obvious from the second
same same to me. Yeah, and then cop daughter. I guess a

(11:09):
little bit that one feels so forcedlike in storytelling. I don't know if
it's like that in the book Iassume it is, like it feels so
forced to have that happened. Thekids, uh bodies being in the animatronics.
Yeah, yeah, that's fun,like if you'd made a rated R
you can have a lot of funwith that. Yes, yeah, if
you don't know anything about Five Knightsof Freddy's, I mean, I honestly,
you might have a better time withthe movie. Yeah, to be

(11:31):
honest, I think again, itmaybe it's different than the books and whatnot,
but I think not having Garrett beone of the animatronics is a missed
opportunity. You can really play inthe emotions of Mike, you can really
play with his emotions and do somefun stuff there. But it because they
don't. It's just like who cares, just trying to fund the kidnapper?

(11:52):
Yeah found them, Yeah, donesome for and they just they just kidnapp
him to kill him. Right,he's not an animatronic, like he's just
kidnapting to kill him. I guessunless I missed a huge beat in the
story, I didn't get that,So all right, I don't know.

(12:16):
The Cupcake's fun. Yeah, thatwas definitely, uh definitely the effects,
well, yeah, that one is. Yeah, there was no animatronic Cupcake.
Maybe not all of it, butyeah, I assume most of that
was CGI. Yeah. I'm actuallygonna look at the pictures from when we

(12:37):
when we were there there it issee he's real. He is real.
Wow, real Cupcake. And yeah, just looking at these pictures again.
Yeah, the only one that thatjust didn't look like it is Foxy.
He looked cgi the whole movie, and the rest did look like they're animatronics.

(12:58):
Yeah, I mean, actually thesetwo, these two you could tell
they were in amatronic. Yeah, chic and yeah, like you said,
performances, what'sn't a huge fan ofanyone, really? I think I think
Blumhouse. Blumhouse has constantly been doingthis like we're gonna get a big I
P. We're gonna do it forlike a ten million dollars and then it's

(13:18):
probably more ten million from the animatronicsalone, but we're gonna do it for
pretty cheap, and then we're gonnaget our money back easily. We're gonna
hit PG thirteen, so then weget the teen audience. I think this
is one that really could have benefitedfrom going rated R and just sending it
and like letting these animatronics go allout with the gore. I mean,
yeah, all the all the killinghappened off screen. Yeah. The only

(13:39):
one that I was like, oh, that's kind of cool was the when
they bite the girl in half andit's it's a shadow. You only see
the shadow and then the legs fallof the ground. But I was like,
okay, cool. Pg. Thirteen. But it was yeah, yeah.
But I mean, if you're gonnato me, if you're gonna do
these types of things, this whereI think Willy's Wonderland is better because they
just they just went for it,Like you're gonna, dude, it's fucking

(14:01):
robots coming to life, it's animatronics, it's chuck e Cheese, It's it's
horror chucky cheese. So if you'reit's already a stupid concept, yeah,
right, like you might as welljust go for it. You might as
well just go for it. Sothat's how I feel like Finance at Freddy's,
like it missed an opportunity by notjust going all out. Yeah,
And that's what I read after thefact after we saw it. The critic

(14:24):
ratings, I mean they were allthe reviews were same thing. They they
were almost there potential. Yeah, like there, yeah, like the the
anatrons are cool. There are somesolid cinematography. At early on in the
movie, there was some solid likeactual suspense that were building up. Actually,
like when when the cupcakes and thefreezer the fridge, like they were

(14:45):
doubt, Hey, all right,we're building up suspense. We're building up
to a fun scare. Yeah, and they just never quite get the relief.
Never happens that the big moments neverhappened. That the most in your
face jump scares of the damn bobblehead, which I thought both times that happened,
I thought it was stupid as shit. It's like, I mean the
theater was laughing, Yeah, hilarious, cool, it was stupid. I

(15:09):
hated it when when the when aneight year old nine year old girl next
to you is like totally chill andlaughing and was more invested in the drawings
that the girl was doing. Uh, I think that's telling Yeah, was
this a horror movie? Not really, It's it's like when they're all I'm

(15:31):
telling you, it's got like afeel good it's just like some feel good
shit going on in here. AndI again, the dream sequences, I
never liked them. I just Icouldn't find myself buying in and the story
got so almost like convoluted. I'mlike, okay, so I gotta know
who this kid is that got kidnapped, and this kid is now Freddie and
and and then Garrett was also kidnappedby whoever owns Freddy's. And but but

(15:54):
also I I can go into thisdream world by being at Freddie's. And
as long as I'm listening to naturesounds, I can put myself back to
that time and I can change it. It turns out my sister can do
it too. I'm like, dude, what is going on? Yeah,
I don't know. You combine thekind of messy story with the the I

(16:18):
don't know, unwillingness to dive intothe horror of the movie and kind of
just like, hey, maybe wewant to be comedy. It was like
they wanted to be Christopher Landon withoutbeing Christopher Landon. That's what it felt
like. It's like we wanted tobe like a Christopher Landon movie but not
actually captured like the spunk and thespirit of Christopher Landon. And yeah,
for that reason, it falls short, Yeah, pretty heavily. Yeah,

(16:41):
And I'm sure there will be asequel. Well, yeah, is this
hold back to the little thing truethat he signed a three picture deal,
but not necessarily a finance of Freddie'sthree picture deal, just a three picture
deal, a blumphouse could be whatever, right, but it was Yeah,
it made it made it sound likeFreddy's. I'm sure it's gonna do well.
It's such an icon ip and aslong as they didn't have a big
budget, which I'm assuming thirty million, probably somewhere in there at twenty thirty

(17:03):
million, h yeah, I meanit's gonna make money. It's gonna do
well in Peacock. It comes out, you know, on October Halloween weekend,
and that usually I would say thatit's a bad idea for a movie
exclusively releasing in theaters. But doingit October, how excuse me, Halloween
weekend and going to Peacock right away. It's gonna stream really well. Uh

(17:26):
so uh it says reported budget twentymillion. Yeah, and on Wednesday night
showings, Wednesday night showing, Wednesdaynight showings, it was over fifty Yeah,
so like it already made its moneyback, yeah before even going to
Peacock, right, Yeah, Peacockis like they're gonna do. They're gonna
stream really well in Peacock. I'msure with Halloween weekend. Yep, that's

(17:48):
I'm probably gonna d up watching that. It can on Peacock, so not
to my own choice, I'm notgonna watch it again. Probably ever,
I'll go outside and we'll do acommentary. It's gonna be drunk. Yeah,
we're ready to hire. I thinkwe should do one for the Exorcist.
God, I don't want to watchthat movie. Yea. So since
yeah, ratings have gone down sincewe got out of the movie. It's

(18:12):
now at a six out of tenon IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes is now twenty
six. Yeah, it just it. I'm telling you. I'm actually like
holding back a little bit here.I really think it fucking just like it's
a real let down. I reallyfor something that's like been in this like

(18:33):
big build up for I mean we'relooking at like five years here, Like
it's five years or so that thishas been in the talks and in the
works. Yeah, and everyone wassuper hyped about it. It's been marketed
like crazy. I mean Blums hadit everywhere. It's already got a confirmed
Halloween Horroranit's House for next year.Yeah, it's already got to confirm Halleen
Horror Night's House, and it justdidn't fucking deliver, just didn't deliver.

(18:56):
No, it did not better benSick. Yeah, better than I hated
Sick, though, better than theExorius. No, sorry, no,
it's not m yes quite, andmost people would say it's not better than
Sick. I think people would putSick above both those movies, but I

(19:17):
just did. I just didn't likeSick. I think mine is going to
sit in between The Exorcist and Sickfor me. I think I think that
is like better than the Exoris andSick. I said what you said,
Yeah, but actually no, I'mputting it the last or the Red Door,

(19:37):
the Red Door. I think I'mputting it above the Exorcist, below
the Red Door. I'd put itbelow the Red Door too, and below
the exist Really, I would putit above Sick. I think that's I
think. I think Sick. Ithink the hype of Sick just killed me.
It was like Kevin Williams's back Baby, and then it was like,
wow, this sucks. Yeah,I just didn't like it for me to

(20:03):
not get into Kevin Williamson movie likeit's hard. Do you ever have you
noticed with eight aby the only personthat thinks this? With age, have
you lost the ability to fan boylike you used to, or like you
could just let all the errors andmistakes go because it's something you care about.
Well, no, well let go. Well like I used to be

(20:25):
able to, like Scream, forexample, I could totally dismiss problems.
I like Scream three, could totallydismiss all of it. I could when
when Screen four came out, Iwas young enough wore I could do it
then, but I couldn't do itfor Screen five. Couldn't in Screen five
is better than Screen four. Icouldn't do it for that movie. And
then like Halloween twenty eighteen happened,Like if it was ten year old me,

(20:47):
Halloween Kills would have been the bestthing that's ever happened. But now
I'm like, fuck, this moviesucks. I mean, I mean I
can watch I still know and knowthat it's but it's gotta be like new
things like even looking at me alittle, it's performance. See, like
my ability to say it wasn't goodis like something I could not have done
ten years ago. Well, andthat's something interesting, like let me talk
about like the hype, the theadrenaline going a new movie just came out,

(21:12):
like if a new uh, anew Friday the thirteenth film came out
and it was I don't know.It wasn't good. It was directed by
someone we didn't like. It waspoorly written, as most are. But
could we sit there and be like, oh my god, we just got
a Friday the thirteenth movie since intheater since two thousand and nine hit.
I don't know, honestly, Andif it's I don't know if I'm there

(21:33):
anymore exactly exactly we're gonna when whenthe next Friday thirteen movie come out,
We're gonna start the pocket. I'mpissed. Maybe maybe, Yeah, I
think I think that gets a littleeasier sometimes. I mean, if the
Scream seven might be hat it's ChristopherLandon, it's scream. If it's got
Melissa Barrera and General Ortega and it'sgot the Core four, yeah, my

(21:56):
expectations might be high. Screaming asthe closest I can get to still being
out a fan boy. That's ahonestly, yeah, Because I actually thought
Screamstick was good. I really likescream Sick I mean like if they if
they were like, hey, we'redoing a new We're doing a new Carry
movie, I'd go in and belike, this is gonna be dog ship.

(22:17):
Yeah yeah, if they did thenew I know what you last summer
movie, I'm gonna quinn expecting itto be dog shit even if Freddy and
Jenny are there. Freddy and Jenny, well, it'll help. But I
mean, if as long as Freddykeeps his shirt on, I'll be fine.
I'll be able to be unbiased.Yes, but as soon as that
shirt comes off, and how doideal plays? And if we can get

(22:41):
a modern day take on how doI Deal? That'd be the best thing
to reality. She like with TSwift. T Swift does how do I
Deal? Right then? Or jLove could just do it in hand with
T Swift though a future collaboration afeature she could de Swift can act.
No, really, I thought she'sbeen acting this whole time. At the

(23:04):
Chiefs Games, I don't eve thinkthey're dating. It's all in act.
Man. There's no way she sitsup there and actually has a good time
with Brittney Mahomes and Jackson Mahomes. You know, fair, She's miserable.
Well, Donnah Kelsey hates her? What really? Yeah, she said that.
I mean this is a little offtopic, but how do you know

(23:26):
that? So Dona kelce was onthe Today Show and they were asking about
Taylor Swift and they're like, howhow is meeting Taylor for his first time?
She's like, it's fine. Damn. They're like and they're like,
oh, yeah, you know, have it Travis and whatever, and she's
like, yeah, she's she's fine. And then the dad was super cool.
And then they keep poking her andshe's like, yeah, you know,

(23:47):
they're grown men. So I don'treally want to I don't want to
talk about their relationships. But Taylor, she's fine. And then they brought
her up again. She's like like, like just having heart the game.
The energy's got to be up,right, She's like she looks away like
she was done and talking about Imean, i'd probably get an annoying It's
like, I'm there for my son. I'm not there. I assume you're

(24:11):
cutting this all out. I'm not. Oh, that's what the point of
these podcasts? Oh Okay. TheNFL reportedly contacted Donna Kelcey and said Taylor
Swift dating Travis is the greatest marketingthe NFL could ever free marketing the NFL
could ever knew. He's like youguys, He's like the Kelsey's and everything

(24:33):
surrounding them is the best. Isthe greatest free marketing of all time.
Yeah, then you got Jason, you have new heights. Yeah, and
then Taylor and Donna Kelsey is herown celebrity. Now, yeah, I
saw their dad. I forgot hisname, but mister Kelsey Greg he had
a quote about Taylor and said thatshe like, you know, the first

(24:55):
time I saw her, she youknow, I turn around and she's cleaning
up all the trash and then thesuite and it's just shows how humble she
is, and YadA, YadA.I don't think that's true. I highly
doubt she's touched trash in years.I highly dot it. Except for John
Mayor, Oh wow, just roastedhim like that. But yeah, it's

(25:17):
abortive, churlish. So find it'sa Friday's kind of sucked. Huh five
maybe five? Yeah, you knowwhat five and a half for me?
You all right, four and ahalf, I'll wait out three three zero.

(25:40):
It's like it's not terrible, likeyou're it's watchable. I would say
that's the longest it's our forty five, our forty nine. That was the
longest hour forty five I have feltin theaters. I dude, I don't
even know how long since like Isaw Halloween two in theaters. Yeah,
it definitely felt very long. Yeah, it was rough. I would definitely
rather watch it again before The Exorcist, though, Man, I don't know,

(26:04):
honestly, I might. I might. I might rather watch it than
The Red Door. Maybe the RedDoor. I still think Red Doors better
movie. But uh, maybe theRed Doors because like that shit got old
in city has got a little longtime ago, and I don't really want
to do it. At least aronsare fresh. I mean, it's not
in my bottom five of the yearof movies that came out this year.

(26:27):
It's not in my bottom five.Really, I'd love to love to know
what your bottom five is. You'llfind out at the end of the year.
Good grief. The extrast, though, I think I'd rather watch that
just the performances are good in thatmovie. The movie isn't great, it's
all right, but yeah, atleast like I'm invested in the performances.

(26:48):
There's actually you know, real charactersand stakes, I guess yeah. Did
you did you ever feel like Mike, what is her name? I remember
her fucking name? The daughter orthe sister's name is Aiden? No,

(27:08):
they said it a million times.I know it's my fault, but I
just don't care. Oh, oh, five nights Freddy's you're telling me it's
not Aiden Abby Abby? Holy shit? This is her second film role.
But yeah, did you ever feellike Mike or Abbey were in danger?

(27:33):
Like? I? Uh, youknow, I did until she's like,
they were tickling me. That's theonly time I thought that she was in
danger. And then he runs outand she's like, oh my gosh,
they wouldn't stop tickling me. Ihonestly not once did I ever feel that
they were in danger. So,like the third act when you're you think

(27:53):
Abby's supposed to like potentially die andbecome an animatronic, I just never felt,
never felt the tension of it becauseI was, no, you won't.
Did you recognize where Vanessa the cop? Which movie she's from? No
count Down? Oh? That wasbothering me. I'm like, I think

(28:15):
I've seen you before. Just foundout another bad horror movie? Yeah?
Nice? Yeah, that's it.Five out of ten. It's all right,
it's fine, another day at theoffice. It's not in my bottom
five of the year. I recommendwatching it via peacock. Do not go
see you in the theaters? Yeah, yeah, that's it. Anything else?

(28:37):
Yeah, all right, Well, signing off with that as always,
