Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey there, and welcome to Words of Truth, a podcast
where we shine the truth of God's Word into everyday life.
I'm your host, Mark Barrett, and I'm so glad that
you're here. Today's episode episode tackles a question that hits
every heart at some point, how do I find my
purpose in life? You know, we live in a noisy world.

(00:26):
Social media tells us to chase our dreams, ads tell
us to buy more stuff, and sometimes even our own
hearts are just restless. But let me ask you something.
Have you ever stopped and asked, deep down, why am
I really here? Not just what you do, but who

(00:51):
you are and what you are made for? Well, you're
not alone. People of all ages, all over the world
today are asking that quest question without a place to
find the answer. And I'm convinced this is why we're
struggling with so much addiction and low self esteem and
loneliness and depression and even suicide in an alarming rate today,

(01:15):
because people need to have a purpose in life, but
they don't know where to find it. But today I
want to assure you that you're not without answers, and
I'm going to help you with well how to find
the answer. Today in that podcast, and so I'm glad
you're here. Today. We're going to take a look at

(01:37):
Ephesians chapter two and verse ten. This is what it says,
for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk
in them. Now, that verse is packed with purpose. God
says that you are made by Him with a plan

(02:02):
and for a reason. Just let that sink in for
a minute. No matter who you are, no matter where
you were born, what race you are, or no matter
your intellectual ability or what kind of parents you had,
you are not an accident. Think about that. You are

(02:24):
not an accident. You are not forgotten. You are God's masterpiece,
created with intention. So what is your purpose? Well, let's
break it down. First of all, your ultimate purpose is
to know God and to bring him glory. Isaiah chapter
forty three and verse seven says, everyone who is called

(02:46):
by my name, listen now, whom I created for my glory. See,
you are made to reflect God's beauty and glory and
character and love. Whether you're leading a company or raising kids,
or mopping floors or driving a truck as CEO or

(03:06):
flipping burgers. It all matters when it's done for him.
Nothing you do is insignificant when you have in mind
that you're working not for the company, but that you're
working for God's glory in what you do. And that
means out whatever you do, do it with all of

(03:27):
your might and to the best of your ability, because
God notices your purpose in it is to bring glory
to God. Secondly, your purpose is to be conformed to
the image of Christ. Romans chapter eight, verse twenty nine
tells us that God is shaping us to look like Jesus.
This is what the Bible says for those whom He

(03:51):
fore knew He also predestined to be conformed to the
image of his son. God is continually shaping us to
be in the image of Jesus Christ. Well what does
that mean. Well, that means that even the painful stuff, yep,
even the heartbreaks and the setbacks, God is using it

(04:15):
all to form something eternal in you. You know, we
often just pray God, remove this trial from me, when
we really ought to be praying God, how are you
using this to conform me to your image? And So,
if you're in a hard season right now, maybe you

(04:37):
feel lost, depressed, you feel like life isn't making any
sense or any difference. Just know God hasn't done with
you yet. He's still writing your story, and for some
the story might not be complete for months or even years.

(04:59):
But in all all that while you can be sure
that God is working on your behalf and in some
way We'll use it all for His glory. And then, thirdly,
your purpose is to serve others and to make disciples.
In Matthew chapter twenty eight, Jesus gave what we call

(05:20):
the Great commission. He said, go therefore and make disciples
of all nations. Now that's not just for pastors or
missionaries or evangelists, but it's for everyone who follows Jesus Christ.
You don't need a platform or a pulpit to make disciples.
Just start where you are. You can pray for somebody,

(05:44):
share your story with people that you know, especially your
story of how God is working in your life and
how you accepted Christ as your savior. In twenty seventeen,
my wife and I lost our youngest son to suicide.
It absolutely destroyed us, but we determined that we would
use our experience to be a blessing to others, and

(06:08):
so a couple of years later, I wrote a book
and tied Shining Light into the Darkness, where I talk
about how God is at work behind the scenes of
every tragedy, every event, every difficult thing we go through.
It's intended to be an encouragement to those going through
difficult things. You can go to my website Pastormarkbarrett dot

(06:30):
com get a free chapter and study guide, and if
you buy the book send me the receipt I'll send
you a free study guide that you can use for
your personal study or in a group study. My point is, friends,
not to sell book, but my point is that God
wants to use us in everything we go through to

(06:50):
be a light to others and to make disciples for Jesus.
So be a light in your workplace and your family,
and your school and your neighborhood. Now here's a powerful truth. Everything,
everything can have a purpose when it's done for God's glory.
First Corinthians, Chapter ten, verse thirty one says, so whether

(07:13):
you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it
all for the glory of God. Whatever you do. But
maybe you're listening today and you're thinking, yeah, but I've
messed up too bad. I'm too late. I don't even
know where to start. Hey, listen closely. God's grace is

(07:35):
greater than your past. Did you hear that God's grace
is greater than your past. We have a little plaque
in our home that says grace changes everything. It really does.
Your purpose doesn't begin with perfection, It begins with surrender.

(07:56):
Jesus didn't die on the cross just to forgive your sins.
He came to give you a whole new life, a
life filled with peace and hope and purpose. John chapter
ten and verse ten says, I have come that you
might have life, and have it to the full. Now

(08:18):
do you know what the other half of the verse says.
It says the devil comes to steal and to kill
and destroy. And so you have a choice. Live to
the fullest or live for destruction. We can make that
choice by either trusting God for our future or by

(08:41):
giving into the lives of the wicked one. And so, today,
no matter who you are, no matter what your past
looks like, your purpose is found in Jesus. So walk
with him, listen for his voice, live every day as
a reflection of his love. Remember, you were made by God,

(09:02):
You were made for God, and your purpose is found
in God. Thanks so much for joining me today on
Words of Truth. If this episode encouraged you, would you
take a second to share it with a friend or
leave a review. It helps more people hear the hope
of the Gospel, and as always, keep walking in the

(09:25):
light of God's Truth. Until next time, Grace and peace
be with you.
