Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Words of Truth, where we open God's Word
to discover timeless truths. For today, I'm your host, Mark Barrett,
and today's episode episode is entitled Why Satan Hates Israel
A Revelation twelve perspective. I'd like to begin with prayer today. Father,
I pray that you would open our eyes to the
(00:25):
spiritual realities behind the headlines. Help us Lord to understand
your love for Israel and the enemy's hatred. And may
your truth shine light into our hearts today in Jesus' name. Amen.
Revelation Chapter twelve is one of the most dramatic and
(00:46):
simple rich chapters in all of the Scripture. It paints
a cosmic picture of spiritual warfare, and at the heart
of it all are two figures, first a woman and
then a dragon. It all sounds so mythological, but it's
(01:07):
figurative language that paints a clear and concise picture. Let
me read a portion from Revelation twelve. Beginning in verse one,
A great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with
the sun, with the man under her feet and a
(01:28):
crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant
and cried out in pain as she was about to
give birth, and then verses three and four continues. Then
another sign appeared in heaven, an enormous red dragon with
seven heads and ten horns, And it continues, and the
(01:50):
dragon stood in front of the woman so that he
might devour her child the moment he was born. And
the question is who is this woman? And secondly, why
is the dragon who is Satan so determined to destroy
her child? Well, first of all, the woman symbolizes Israel,
(02:15):
the nation which was chosen by God to bring forth
the Messiah. And the imagery echoes back to Genesis chapter
thirty seven, where you might remember that Joseph's dreams of
the sun, moon and eleven stars that are bowing down
to him. And remember it was in that vision that well,
(02:35):
he got into all kinds of trouble with his brothers
who sold him as a slave, and he ended up
in Egypt. But it was a vision that's clearly rooted
in the writings about the history of Israel. Now, the
child in verse five tells us is a quote male
(02:56):
child who will rule all nations with an iron, and
that's a clear reference to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, And
who's the dragon. Well, that's Satan, plainly and simply put.
Verse nine calls him that ancient serpent who is called
the devil, and Satan the deceiver of the whole world.
(03:19):
Now that's an important truth to hear. Why, because we're
living in a world where Satan has blinded the hearts
and minds of people so that they might not see
the light of the glory of Jesus Christ. Satan, you see,
is a deceiver. He's a manipulator and a liar, and
he's in all of the world today doing his dirty work.
(03:42):
But this scene shows us something very critical to understand,
which is that Satan's hatred for Israel is ultimately rooted
in his hatred for Jesus Christ. You remember that he
tried to stop the Messiah from being born by sending
King Herod to kill all the babies in Jerusalem two
(04:04):
years and under. And then he tried to tempt it Jesus,
to derail Jesus in the wilderness by tempting him to sin.
And then Satan thought he finally got the upper hand
by those who crucified him. But on the third day
Christ rose from the dead victorious. And now with Christ
ascended and enthroned in heaven, Satan turns his fury on
(04:29):
the woman who is Israel. And then, later, as the
chapter says, on all who quote keep God's commands and
hold fast their testimony about Jesus. And so you might
wonder why Satan hates Israel, Well, let me give you
three biblical reasons. First of all, because Israel gave birth
(04:51):
to the Messiah through the seat of Abraham. God chose
Israel as the channel of his covenant, his law, and
ultimately his son, from Abraham to David to marry. Salvation
history is Jewish history, and Satan hates the instrument God
(05:12):
used to bring redemption. Secondly, Satan hates Israel because God
isn't finished with Israel. Romans Chapter eleven makes it very
clear that Israel has not been cast off. Paul says
that all Israel will be saved and that God's gift
and his call are irrevocable. And so if Satan can
(05:34):
destroy Israel, he thinks he can disprove God's promises and
discredit God himself. Isn't he a fool? And Thirdly, Satan
hates Israel because she plays a key role in the
end times. Jesus said in Matthew chapter twenty three and
verse thirty nine that he would not return until Israel says,
(05:57):
blessed is he who comes in the name of the
Lord Lord. But this time he wouldn't come as a
sacrificial savior, but as the judge. The Bible commentator Clark says,
till after the fullness of the Gentiles is brought in,
when the word of life shall again be sent unto you,
then will you rejoice and bless and praise him that
(06:22):
cometh in the name of the Lord, with full and
final salvation for the lost sheep of the House of Israel.
Now it's going to take a tribulation to do it,
but God promises that Israel will welcome Jesus back. Satan
knows that Israel's national repentance will say it signal the
end of the time, and so he fights viciously. Now
(06:48):
this hatred plays out both historically and prophetically. Remember from
the Book of Exodus, how we read Pharaoh tried to
wipe out the Hebrews at the Red Sea, but that
God delivered him. Well, that was Satan who's behind all that.
And then in the Book of Esther we read about
how Hayman plotted a genocide against the Jews, but that
(07:12):
Esther laid her life on the line and saved them
by revealing his wicked plot. Satan was behind all that.
We've already seen how Herod tried to kill Baby Jesus
and in more recent times, how Hitler murdered six million
Jews with a goal of exterminating them altogether. And still
(07:32):
today anti Semitism. Wow, that was a hard word to say.
Anti Semitism is rising worldwide with Satan behind every plot,
every riot, every evil performed against the Jews. You see
behind every political power, every false ideology, every spirited hatred
(07:57):
is the dragon Satan. Yet here's the hope. Revelation trip
Chapter twelve doesn't end in defeat. We're told how God
protects the woman Israel. He gives her wings to flee.
Verse fourteen says, but the woman was given two wings
(08:18):
of the great eagles so that she might fly from
the serpent into the wilderness to the place where she
is to be nourished for a time and times and
half a time. And then verses fifteen and sixteen tells
us that God protects protects Israel from Satan. He says
the serpent poured water like a river out of his
(08:42):
mouth after the woman to sweep her away with a flood.
But the earth came to help the woman, and the
earth opened his mouth and swallowed the river that the
dragon had poured from his mouth. And ultimately Satan is
cast down, overcome the blood of the Lamb and the
word of the testimony. And Israel's preserved not because of
(09:06):
her strength, but because of God's faithfulness. And God God
has been preserving Israel since her birth. Well, what should
we take away from this? First of all, we need
to recognize the spiritual battle going in going on in
our world today. You see, this isn't just about politics
(09:30):
or nations fighting over land or power, but it's about
God's plan and Satan's opposition. And it's a spiritual battle
between Satan and God. Satan thinking that he can somehow
out maneuver, outwit, and even conquer God. Imagine that Satan
(09:56):
is an extremely intelligent being, and yet he's still thinking
that he can somehow out smart, out maneuver, and even
conquer God. And yet I believe that he's already a
defeated foe, and yet he never gives up. He'll continue
to work to drag people into Hell with him his
(10:16):
final destination. And secondly, we need to pray for the
peace of Jerusalem. Psalm one hundred and twenty two, Verse
six says, pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May they
prosper who love you. Whether you agree with the politics
or what's happening there or not, we're commanded to stand
with Israel spiritually, morally, and prayerfully. We don't have to
(10:42):
agree with everything, but we have to agree that Israel
is God's people and that he has a special plan
for them, and so we pray for them. And finally,
we need to trust in God's sovereignty. Satan is fierce,
but he's also a defeat enemy. Jesus conquered death when
(11:03):
he rose from the dead, and Satan no longer has
any power to weld over us. God's promises are true
and his plans cannot be stopped. And one day soon Jesus,
the Jewish Messiah and Savior of all who believe, will return,
(11:24):
reign and restore well. I hope this helps. Thank you
