(00:01):
Yo, we're at two and ahalf hours. I'm gonna have a blast
anything. Oh my god, Jen, you know what in fairness I warned
you last night. I said Ihad a lot to say about this movie.

(00:26):
Welcome to Meet Cute, a podcastfor friends. Jennavaris and Priscilla Wilson
get together to discuss all things romcoms, from the classics to the latest
releases. We'll be diving deep intothe world of romantic comedies. No,
you know my stance on it.I do, And I also know that
today's movie has some fairy dust.So we are talking about thirteen Going Home

(00:54):
thirty. Yeah, so tell meabout this movie. Thirteen Going On thirty
is a very adorable romantic comedy. The Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo were doing
another Mark Ruffalo film. It isabout a thirteen year old girl back in
the late eighties who dreams of beinga popular girl. She just wants to

(01:19):
grow up and it takes place duringher birthday party where she has an unfortunate
situation happened where she gets embarrassed bysome of the classmates that she so desperately
wants to be friends with, andit makes her wish that she was quote

(01:42):
thirty flirty and thriving, and shewakes up as a thirty year old woman
and oh Man learns a lot oflessons in the process. I guess the
question right off the VATA half foryou, do you remember a specific time
in your life where you wished youwere older? Yes, tell me about

(02:05):
that. Yes. I had alot of older cousins, okay, and
so I know that, like whenmy older cousins were starting to go out
with their friends, go out ondates and stuff like that, I definitely
felt left out, Like I didn'tlike feeling like that little kid that was

(02:30):
just you know, trailing behind. So yeah, I totally did have those
moments where I was like, Ijust wish I was their age already.
But to be clear, it wasdefinitely my younger age wishing that I was
older, but not wishing I wasthirty, wishing I was like eighteen or

(02:50):
something like that. So that's whatI remember wishing for. What about you?
I think similarly, I do youremember? I think it might have
been like towards the end of highschool though, so I was a little
bit older for sure, but Iwas like, okay, like I just
want to be older. Already likein my twenties, because the twenty like

(03:12):
late twenties some things and early thirtiesthat I knew from back then, like
they just seemed to have it tilltogether. And like I remember we had
a friend. Actually this was whenI still lived in Puerto Rico, so
I was maybe thirteen, but thiswas a family friend. He was in
his late twenties, and he alwaysleased cars, so he always had a
nice car. And obviously, asI'm older now, like I understand the

(03:35):
financials of it, but like atthe time, I'm like, wow,
brand new car, like and likeI remember he would pull out his wallet
and like pay for things and like, so maybe not what I think about
it, yeah, because I wasyounger than thirteen, but I do clearly
remember him and how cool I thoughthis life was. I have a confession

(03:57):
to me, I mean, I'mthirty seven years old. I definitely have
moments. I don't know if youhave these moments where I will legit think
to myself, when am I goingto feel like a grown up. I
don't feel like a grown up?Wow, yeah, like like sometimes I

(04:19):
do, but I'm waiting for thatmoment. Even at my age, I
don't always feel that way. Ididn't feel that I didn't feel like a
grown up when I got married.I certainly felt like a grown up.
When I was sitting in the courtroomgetting a divorce. That was like the
most adult thing I think I've everdone in my life. I was like,

(04:41):
adults do this, right, sothat on Facebook hashtag adult thing and
literally like they're at the court houseabsolutely like, but you know, I'm
thirty seven now and I've had allthese adventures and stuff, but i still
don't feel like a grown up,like a true adult, and it's very

(05:06):
weird. And I don't know whenthat kicks in. My friend, there's
any indication of how I feel aboutthis and how if I ever felt this
other than our conversation we have wehad off Mike. Yes, I could
so relate to that, And Ithink that's why when I remember seeing a

(05:29):
lot of gen Z's criticize seing llennialsfor using word adulting so much, and
it's like, it's because sometimes Ihave to be reminded, like I don't
know if if this happens, butthis thought came to me too, because
I've had this feeling before where I'mlike I'm in my house or my apartment,
whatever I've lived. At the moment, I'm like, oh wow,

(05:50):
all of this runs because of me. Like no, I'm making things run
like I am the ahead of ahousehold, right, So yeah, and
that is mind blowing. So yeah, sometimes I have to say I'm adult
thing because like, nobody else ispaying that rent but me. Exactly,

(06:11):
Jenn, were you aware of thatexactly? Yeah? Yeah, I can
really I can relate. Oh poorJenna. Well in her defense, not
to spoil it, but the magazineat the time was really piping up how
great it was to be in yourthirties, which it is great, but
like, let's not lie to thethirteen yea, the thirty thirty and thriving.

(06:34):
It seems like an exact It's alot um. I just I thought
that was a funny age to zeroin on for her. I mean,
I remember being younger and being inyour thirties seemed like older. Yes,
not necessarily old, but you envisionedpeople in their thirties a certain way,

(07:00):
and me being in my thirties nowit's just very different. You know.
Yes, I one hundred percent agreewith you, because when I think back,
I'll use my mom as a perfectexample. My mom was thirty two
when I was thirteen. I think, if my mouth is correct, I'm

(07:20):
about to be thirty two, andto me, she seemed like the most
put together adult in the world atthat age. And then here I am,
and I'm like, oh, wow, you're like pretty much figuring out
out as you go. So yes, that's true. I like my mom
was in her mid twenties when shehad me, probably around thirty ish when

(07:47):
she had my middle sister. Bythe time she was thirty five, she
had three kids. I'm thirty seven. I can't I can't imagine that at
all. Wow. When I thinkof myself at thirteen, like, let's
use that age because that is howold Jenna is in the movie Sure at

(08:07):
thirteen. You know, when peopleask you about what you think of the
future, or like you yourself personally, how you think the future is going
to play out. I remember thinking, well, I will go to high
school, graduate, go to college, meet the love of my life,

(08:28):
get married by like twenty five, have kids, not really thinking about whether
or not I wanted these things orit just seemed like that's what was going
to happen, That's what you expectto happen. And I remember when I
was a twenty five year old,I could not picture getting married or having

(08:52):
a kid at that age, theage that my mom was. You know,
I felt like five year olds hadno business getting married. Yeah,
that's the best way to put it. Yeah, you almost feel like,
oh wow, like I'm so unpreparedfor whatever I thought I was supposed to
be doing right now. And Iguess, you know, people will always

(09:13):
argue it's like, well, youthat's how you grow right, Like you'll
learn you don't go into it knowing. But I'm like, no, trust
me, Like I can barely takecare of myself, Like I can tell
you that. I mean, maybesome instinct would kick in, but I
don't know. It's not kicking infor myself. I don't kick someone else.
I definitely have a lot of thatimposter syndrome when it comes to considering

(09:37):
myself like a full adult. Yeah, gosh, that's so relatable person.
Now. I don't want to switcha topic too much, but I'd remember
something I saw on Instagram, andI want to know if you agree before
we get into the movie. Itmight have been something like Melinda Gates said
in an interview that whoever you areat thirteen is who you are in your

(09:58):
thirties. But we go through thiswhole life where we try to change ourselves.
Oh wow, I'm having a revelation. Hang on, that's why we
witnessed in the movie. Yeah, that whole concept that people throw around of
reconnecting with your inner child, thatis very real. Because I agree with

(10:22):
you or Melinda Gates or what haveyou, I think I have to find
out. Maybe I'm miss quoting theperson, but I know she was talking
about something being thirteen one time. But anyway, Yeah, yeah, I
think your twenties you're trying to besomebody else. Yeah, you're trying to
change a lot of your poor qualities. And then in your thirties, or

(10:45):
at least for me, I've foundthat I guess I've gravitated and allowed myself
to really enjoy the things that Iused to enjoy when I was younger,
Like you want to go back tothat kind of and just indulging in the
stuff that made you happy? Isa kid? I think around this age

(11:07):
and maybe your forties two, thewhole like identity crisis, midlife crisis,
however anybody labels it a lot ofit that that feeling lost. It's because
you think to yourself, like Iused to love doing certain things and I
don't do that anymore, and youdon't feel like yourself, you lose sight

(11:35):
of who you really are. SoI agree with that. Oh so relatable.
I'm gonna find information. I'm gonnasten it to because, like I
said it if it was the MelindaGates interviews in my YouTube history, but
I know she said something along windand I saw that specifically around who you
were at thirteen is who you areor who you want to be in your

(11:56):
thirties kind of thing. So wow, No, this is so relatable everything
you just said. Yes, butwe do start the movie with school picture
Day. She's so adorable, She'sso like adorably awkward. Picture Day is
so stressful real, you know,I think back of like how long Okay,

(12:20):
I have this picture day Percia wheremy hair was so gelled because you
know, you used to use thebig hard jelly to make your hair curly
in the early two thousands, Iguess, And I have a picture where
my hair is so gelled hard thatmy head looks like this, and like

(12:41):
I actually have a hair sticking outlike that because like it's so hard,
so I cannot believe. If Iknew then what I know now, I
would have just gone asked myself andtaken those pictures instead of like trying so
hard that morning of h if Iknew then what I do now. Yeah,

(13:05):
Jenna, Jenna has the awkward pictureday. I think she even she
has a retainer, right, yeah, for braces something like that, so
even more awkward she's feeling. Andat thirteen, you're just you're going through
a lot of changes, hormones, puberty, you're liking boys, you want

(13:28):
to fit in, you want tobe accepted. It's all pretty horrible and
tough to navigate. And I thinkadults loose sight of what it is to
really go through that age. Thatit's it's not always this very easy thing,

(13:50):
yeah, to experience, you know. And on the topic of fitting
in, I think Jenna's prettier thanthe sixth Chick. Oh absolutely, she
is way better looking than all thosegirls, you know what. And you
know it's funny. One of thesix Chicks, one of the tall blond

(14:11):
ones anyway, is actually played byBree Larson. Oh my god, I
was holding onto that because I wasgonna impress you with that fact. Oh,
I only knew. I only knewabout it because I remember seeing her
mention. There was like a clipa long time ago there was an interview

(14:35):
with her and Mark Ruffalo promoting likeAvenger stuff okay for Marvel, and she
brings up to him, Hey,I was in thirteen going on thirty,
and he's like, what are youtalking about? And she like brought it
up and he's like, get thehell Addie here. So that's the only
reason why I know that that washer. And sorry, if you can

(14:58):
hear Karen like just pacing around behind. She felt some type of way about
that because it gave me a littlebit of like goose bumm because it's like,
oh wow, like she was achild while he was playing a fool
on adult. Yeah. So soyou have Brie Larsons in it, and
I was really gonna surprise you atthat pastor. You have no idea how

(15:20):
hard I have been. I wasgonna text you about it, and then
I was like, no, no, no, I'm gonna tell her on
the podcast. And the only wayI know, which I'm not realizing.
No, don't worry, because I'mnot realizing of course you knew this the
only way I know because when Igoogled the movie to find the Wikipedia paide,
you know how the cast shows up, Yes, and it had Bree

(15:41):
Larson and it said six chick numberthree. I think, uh huh.
And I was like, oh mygod. And then I was like,
I'm gonna write in my note. And as you're now telling me how you
know, I'm realizing, like, first off, of course she knows she's
a marvel head. And second thoughshe could have just googled the movie and
seen her there, just like me, So silly me. But AnyWho,

(16:03):
Um dang, I was I'm gonnaI'm gonna do better research next time.
I' to find better notes. It'sa nice little fact because you're not really
paying attention to any of those girlsthat are behind Tom Tom the leader of
that click. And when she saidit to Mark Ruffalo and watching the movie

(16:26):
even just now, like I focusedin on Herrana like it looks like her,
but it doesn't look like her,you know what I mean? Yeah,
I had a hard time finding her. I still couldn't tell you if
I fully found her or not.Well, let me take that off my
note. I'm scared well. BreeLarson is part of a click of very

(16:49):
Nasty Girls, Yes, led byTom Tom Tom Tom Listen. Kids are
mean. Fuck kids, Yeah, fucking they and those girls in particular,
they're nasty little bitches. Kids arereally mean, especially in like middle school.

(17:14):
Like the shit that they do toher. They really pull a bait
and switch with Jenna because, youknow, they come and see her at
her locker. She's super excited thatthey would even give her the time of
day. And she's talking to Maddie, her best friend who lived next door,

(17:37):
and his grown up version is MarkRuffalo. They're talking about her birthday
party later and the Six Chicks comeup and they kind of rope her into
doing all of their homework for themin exchange making an appearance at her thirteenth

(18:02):
birthday party. Yeah, and it'sso frustrating my girl. Yeah. The
moment she agreed her, they're like, okay, like we can make it
happen, you know, because Ithink they're also trying to bring that Chris
guy with right. They dangle thatover her head, this guy Chris that

(18:22):
she has a big crush on thatthey're friends with, like another popular kid,
and they lie to her and say, oh, we really wanted to
go, and Chris was going togo too, but we can't because we
have all this homework to do.And Jenna's like, I'll do Averila,
and so that is their excuse forgoing to the birthday party. Maddie sees

(18:45):
right through them. He's like,I don't even understand why you want to
be friends with these girls. Theysuck and they do they do it for
you, Maddie, Yeah, goodfor you. He is a thirteen year
old that is I think level headedmaybe the word I'm looking for he has.
He has a little bit more Yeah, he has a little bit more
confidence. He does the photography, you know, reminds me, I don't

(19:10):
want to spoil it, but remindsme of Robbie of our next movie.
Yeah, you're right, Yeah, yeah, oh man, look at me
making these connections. He's got agood head on his shoulders and he's pretty
rational too. So yeah, hecan just read these girls like a book

(19:33):
at Yeah, just a glance, like he knows what they're about. And
he does not like their energy. No, No, they're they're odd.
M I actually totally forgot Matt andJenna lived next to each other. When
I rewatched a movie for the podcast, I was like, oh my gosh,
how did I miss that? Becauselater on, again, not to
spoil it. Gosh, I shouldhave a shirt that says not to spoil

(19:53):
it. Um. Later on,her parents are at his wedding day,
you know, And technically I'm like, oh, well that makes sense because
they've been neighbors for life, youknow whatever. So they get home.
Her parents are like the typical,in my opinion, embarrassing parents. They're

(20:15):
just seems so chill, so calm, loving. They seem a little older,
so it's kind of like, Ican imagine those parents are just a
little top bit older and you feellike they don't get anything. So maybe
that's why she's feeling even extra pressure. And then we have her getting ready
for her party and stuffing tissues onher Sure, yes, she's stuffing because

(20:40):
she doesn't have boobs yet, andshe's got all the posters on her wall.
By the way, this soundtrack isamazing. I love this soundtrack because
I'm a big fan of eighties music. So she's got a big crush on
the guy who sings Jesse's Girl,Rick Springfield, and she's getting pumped up

(21:03):
for her birthday party by blasting someRick Springfield which don't judge me, but
I learned in this movie that Jesse'sGirl is not sung by a guy named
Jesse. So that's a fun factI learned. And that is on stane
culture, my friends. But Iagree, really good music. I think

(21:27):
this is also like I think hermom comes in, takes a tissue of
her, I'm sure, and justlike reminds her you know of who she
is. And then when her momleaves, this is when I think we
see the Choice magazine, yes, with the you know, thirties are the
best years of your life, thirtyflirty and thriving and like part of me

(21:48):
now like this is the first timeI'm watching this movie in my thirties actually
that I can remember, So Idon't know. Now this feels very much
more special because I'm like, yes, thirties are the best years of your
life. And I could say thatproudly. Yeah, even putting imposter syndrome
aside, I have enjoyed my thirties. I like my thirties a lot.

(22:14):
Yeah, I'm excited. I'm juststarting them, but I'm so excited to
come. So the party starts Maddiecomes over. He has a very adorable
gift for her, Like it's clearthat he is in love with her,
Like the way he looks at her, it's adorable. So he tells her,

(22:37):
I may not be able to getyou the Barbie dream house that you
had wanted. I made you yourown dream house. And he brings her
a pink dollhouse and he's just reallygone all out with it. Like I
wanted to snap my fingers in frontof her and be like, girl,

(22:57):
pay attention, pay attention to thistype of man, Like, yeah,
he's he's got the details. He'sso kind, like, yes, he's
so in love with you. Openyour eyes. Yeah, I don't care
that she's only thirteen, Like thosethose little moments of love. I guess,

(23:22):
you know, because he's he's showinglove in the way that he can
you know at thirteen that capacity, you know, he's very limited capacity of
doing that. And it's just sosweet. Yeah, I think it is
really sweet. I would say that'sa beautiful thing for the people that have
found it to like have known theirpartner. I think for that since that

(23:45):
age, I think that's beautiful whentwo people can grow together and still like
like each other as we change andevolve and develop and stuff. So he
then also has this fairy dust.He calls it magic, that's like wishing
dust, and it's for her.I actually don't remember exactly what his intention
was was for her to make awish, and I guess the dust was

(24:10):
just to kind of help it along, help it to actually come to fruition.
And as he's showing her the wishingdust, they hear the doorbell ring.
It's the freaking bitch Squad and they'vebrought a few boys with them as
well. They come down to thebasement, they already kind of start shit

(24:33):
with Maddie and he can't even standit. So he decides, I'm going
to get out of here. I'mgoing to go next door. I'm going
to get my little Cassio keyboard thing. Because he really doesn't care. He
has no shame, is nothing butlove for this little girl. And he
writes like he wrote her a songand was totally gonna play it no matter

(24:55):
what. So he leaves. Theterrible kids are there, and I just
hate them. There's every time thetone of your voice, every time you
either mentioned like the little bitches, the terrible kids like if your tons,
I don't have patience for kids likethat. Like we all know kids like

(25:21):
that, you know, I knewgirls like that and guys like witnessed bullying
and there's no reason for it,you know, just it leaves a bad
taste in my mouth to see thatplay out. And they bring these boys
and they propose that they play sevenMinutes in Heaven. They want the birthday

(25:47):
girl to go first, and Jenna'sfreaking out. She thinks that she and
her crush are going to go intothe freaking closet where her parents are.
I have no idea this is allgoing down with her parents whatever, So
she she goes in to the closet. TomTom goes up to her tells her

(26:11):
that Chris is a fan of secondbase, whichis majoris freaks Jenna out because
she's stuffing, you know, soshe quickly like throws out the tissue when
the door closes, which is alsolike, that's mean, you don't you
don't need to, like you're alreadygoing to fuck with her, you didn't

(26:32):
have to go the extra mile, but whatever. Before Tom Tom closes the
closet door, she asks, bythe way, where's our homework? And
Jenna's tells her, and Jenna's waitingin the closet, and then these girls
they grab the homework and they're justgonna bounce. They're they're gonna leave this
girl high and dry. I wouldlike to think that as a parent,

(26:55):
I would I would notice an entiregang of kids coming into my house,
going down there, not staying verylong, and then all leaving. Yeah,
because I would be furious if somekids try to pull this shit on
my kid, my nephew, whoever. Like I'd be ready to burn houses

(27:18):
down. Oh yeah, So theyleave. Maddie Is He comes back at
the same time that they're leaving, and he's like, what's going on?
And Tom Tom says, Jenna iswaiting for you in the closet. He
opens the door. She's got ablindfold on, she's waiting patiently in her

(27:38):
cute little eighties outfit. And ofcourse he's excited, right because this is
what he's been dreaming about. Thisbig grab hands and then he leads in
to kiss her, and then shesays, oh, Chris, and like,
I must have totally took the windout of his was a poor kid.

(28:00):
And then he's like, what areyou talking about she takes the blindfold
off. I feel horrible for thislittle boy, because I mean for both
of them, and she takes itout on him. She gets pissed at
him, she's humiliated, and shetakes it out on him. Yeah.

(28:21):
I don't think that she I reallydon't think that she actually thinks it's his
fault. No, I think she'sjust angry. Yes, she's angry.
They messed with her. They youknow, they bullied her basically, And
yeah, she kicks him out.To your point, even about Maddie earlier,

(28:41):
like this also shows how much ofa gentleman he is, because he
could have been a thirty horny, little thirteen year old and just like I
don't know, acted like he wasChris and then tell her to keep her
blindfold on. Do I watched toomuch as vu? But like, again

(29:03):
to your point, like he issuch a gentleman. He is so thoughtful,
He cares so much about her thathe immediately was like, what are
you talking about? Yeah? Yeah, and yeah, she kicks him out,
yells at him. He doesn't understand, and she stays in the closet
crying, and she just keeps wishingto be thirty. She wants to be

(29:29):
thirty flirty and thriving, and thewishing dust falls on top of her,
and next thing, you know, she well, we don't know it's her
right away, you know, yousee a woman waking up in bed,
and it's Jenna who wished to bethirty, and now she wakes up as

(29:52):
a thirty year old woman she wishedto be thirty flirty, which she wakes
up with a man in her inher apartment naked. She certainly does.
She has a naked man in herapartment, and and she's thriving. She's
got she's got a Fifth Avenue apartment. I was just gonna see that,
like the girl is thriving. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

(30:18):
I have a question for you.I'm sure you know exactly what I'm
gonna ask, But like, whatwould you do when you first, like
wake up, if you wake upolder or in a different life than the
one you know today? I don'tknow. I mean I definitely I feel
like I might have a panic attackbecause like she she mentally is thirteen years

(30:49):
old. Yes, you know, like it's not you wake up and you're
thirty and your brain is thirty andyou have all the memories of this life
even though you didn't physically experience. She is still her, but she like
missed this whole chunk of her life. She hasn't grown mentally, you know,

(31:11):
she's not thirty year old mentally.Yeah, I would say there's two
problems here I have with this movie. Not big deal, but it's just
me nit picking honestly. Number One, I think I get for the comedic
part why she had to still bethirty thirteen in her head, but I

(31:32):
think it was at some point alittle odd that, like she was really
acting like a thirteen year old,Like, oh, like I think at
one point against spoiler alert, butshe like tells the guy that is naked
in her apartment who was about toshow, you know, take off his
towel coming out of the bathroom. She's like, I don't want to see
that thing again. Put it away. So like, it's just kind of

(31:53):
odd that she is thirteen in herhead these things are happening, But I
get it for the plot of themovie. You gotta do it for the
plot, and I understand that, right. The other issue I have is
I want to know what happened toJenna Rink. I r L while she
was having this like dream of livinganother life because she obviously spoiler alert,

(32:15):
comes back to as the thirteen yearold and like realizing and then the hugging
Mattie because she's like so happy tosee him. So it's like, how
do we explain that that she likehit her head and you know what is
the word? Um? Did shefall asleep because she was so tired of

(32:35):
crying? Like, but I don'tthink that much time happened. Okay,
now I'm really getting into the weeksand please walk me out of here,
because now I'm like Tom Tom didcome back at the end, and like
she like ripped up the report shewrote her, so like not that much
time had passed. And it's funnythat she she goes back to her thirteen
year old self with full memory,Yeah, everything she experience as a thirty

(33:02):
year old, which I mean,I guess that's the point, right,
she's supposed to learn her lesson.True, but it is interesting that she
remembers everything she did in that shorttime span. Yeah, brings it back
with her. Well, I havea lot of ques. Okay, we

(33:22):
should move on because I'm going intoa rabbit. I totally I get it.
And here here is here's a problemthat I have with the movie.
And it's kind of to your pointabout I understand she's she's got this like
clueless persona. She has no ideawhat's going on because mentally she's thirteen.

(33:44):
Why does nobody around her question whyshe's acting weird? They all seem annoyed
with her, like yeah, likeif you're really my best friend and I'm
asking you these weird question Like shedoesn't know who her boss is, she
doesn't know what she does. Sheseemed surprised that she's an editor at Poise

(34:07):
magazine. You know what I mean? Yeah, if that very if you
start saying that shit, I'd belike, that's not hungover, that's like,
girl, you had an accident. We need to check hospital records or
something like what happened. Yeah, yeah, you would take me to the

(34:28):
very concerned, very concerned. Butat the same time, you find out
her as an adult, all therelationships in her life or kind of superficial,
even Tom Tom or Lucy as youknow she's being called now in their
thirties Lucy, even as her bestfriend. Like it's pretty surface level,

(34:52):
like it's not a great friendship,No, everyone hates her. Yeah she
shouldn't. Jenna has on the surface, she has everything and kind of everything
that she could have hoped for.She has this really amazing apartment, she

(35:12):
lives in New York City. She'sa big time magazine editor, she has
money, she knows all these people. She's friends with Madonna, you know
what I mean. And she hasthis hot boyfriend really I mean, you
know, he plays for the NewYork Rangers, which, hello, I
would love that. Yeah. Andat the same time, nobody likes her.

(35:37):
Her assistant is terrified of her. She's a backstabbing bitch. She has
affairs with married guys, like she'snot a good person. No, I
think to your point, she goteverything that her thirteen year old self was
like, this is what would makeme happy in life. But then I

(35:58):
feel like that even that revelation thatshe had showed her like you can have
everything, but it's going to costyou something. And I think for her
it was showing like it costs youeverything, like your happiness, your morals,
your values, it costs you everything. And I don't know if that's
everybody's case in life, but Ithink we can all agree life is a
transaction. You have to give andtake. So I think I liked how

(36:21):
the movie did it, where itwas like, oh, yeah, you're
thirteen, and you think your life'sgonna be so fabulous. Well, let
me show you all of the consequencesof having to be so fabulous. Yeah,
she wanted this high powered, seeminglyglamorous life and career. She doesn't
talk to her parents, No,she doesn't. She doesn't visit. No,

(36:43):
she finds out she doesn't have afriendship anymore with her best friend Maddie.
Yeah, and yeah, can Isay that her When she runs out
of her apartment, of course, her like slip and her co match and
it looks like this amazing outfit whichis popular now, like the slip dress

(37:05):
kind of thing, and she looksamazing. Of course, of course it
looks fantastic together. But she goesdownstairs. Lucy picks her up. They
have a car bring them to work. She's kind of piecing together, like,
Okay, this guy is my boss. Okay, this is happening.
She has no idea what she's doing. Everybody thinks that she's hungover. She

(37:29):
is very confused, and the firstperson that she wants to turn to is
Matt, so she asks her assistantto track him down. She gives him
She gives her assistant, who's terrifiedof her. She gives her the phone
number of his parents' house, andshe tracks him down. He's living in

(37:52):
New York as well. He's livingin the village. I like that part.
She's like, he lives in thevillage, and she's like, which
village. So she goes to hisapartment and she's so excited to see him,
and he's like, I don't knowwho you are at first, and
then and then it dawns on himand he's really really stunned to see this

(38:16):
girl who he hasn't been friends withsince he was thirteen. Yeah, and
she's acting like right because in hermind they were best friends just yesterday.
Yeah, and she's really thinking like, this is the person that can help

(38:37):
me right now in this confusing momentthat I'm living. I'll say, because
this is our second back to backMark rufflo movie, he is so cute,
Like I was sleeping on Hulk becausehe's really cute. Mark Ruffalo is
very cute, and he in thismovie he's just so no, he's so

(39:00):
adorable. Like everything about Mark Ruffalois so non threatening. I love it
his face expressions like had me ona joke. Hold like he's a mild
like I was, just so Iwould I want to rewatch this movie just
to like have eyes on him thewhole time. Basically, he's really cute

(39:22):
and I forgot about that. Andhe was cute and the other one too,
So he was just really cute inthis era and I think he's still
really but anyway he is. He'svery, very handsome now in his fifties.
So he's very hesitant to hang outwith her because of what went down
between them, and Jenna has norecollection of what actually happened between them,

(39:46):
and she asked for his help tolike remember her life. And you know
what's funny is that he knows thingsabout her life for someone who's not her
friend. I think she asks him, like, I didn't see you over
the holidays, you know, andhe said, I think your crew does

(40:07):
Saint Bart's for the holidays and she'sye, Like he says little things here
and there, so he didn't.Yeah, he's keeping tabs on this girl
that he's loved, you know, from when he was a kid. And

(40:27):
he shows her their yearbook He evensays, like high school was a nightmare
for me, probably because she ditchedhim. Yeah, and she became the
leader of the Six Chicks and stoppedstopped talking to him. She finds out
that Lucy is Tom Tom because sheshe said, what happened? What happened

(40:54):
to Tom Tom? Like, arewe friends? And he's like, last
I heard you guys work together, see, like he knows, And I
don't know if that's because he's aphotographer, but it doesn't think he's keeping
tabs on her. Yeah, thatseems more likely because his when they when
they do eventually collaborate later and sheasks him to like photograph for the magazine,

(41:16):
he tries to back out because hesays, my work is not your
style, like it's it doesn't fitin this world kind of thing. So
at first you would think maybe heknows that world or that industry and who's
who because of his job. Butyeah, I think he maybe a little

(41:36):
bit of both. But I diddefinitely keeping tabs on her. Yeah,
and she she has she has zeroself awareness. No, I don't know
if I'm jumping ahead, and thisis the part, but I I think
we have like a little like shewas no, because she was at the
party already I think, or wasit at a mall or something. I
don't remember, But she's like letteringand like she eating that pineapple and the

(42:00):
secure and like tossed it and likelanded on someone's drenth. Like again,
I have no business talking about theeighties because I wasn't there. But she's
giving a lot of like eighties teenagervibes of like, ah, you know,
she doesn't have much of a filterwith her behavior or with the things

(42:21):
that she says. Because all thesethings that Maddie is showing her and telling
her, we see his body language, we hear his voice. It's clearly
not a great time in his lifethat he really wants to reminisce over right,
and she's just focusing on oh mygod, my life is she even

(42:45):
said? I think she says outloud like I got everything I want and
he said congratulations, Like yeah,so she has zero kind of emotional intelligence
to pick up on any of this. Yes, yeah, that's a perfect
way to put it. Is thisthe part where she invites him to that

(43:06):
party or do they keep hanging out? I know they hung out for a
minute here she does because they're ather apartment. He goes to her apartment
to show her the yearbook and whatever, and she gets the phone call yag,
a car will pick you up atthis time, and she's like,
oh, where am I going? And they tell her she's going to this

(43:29):
party. Here's the address. Soshe's all excited and he's like, all
right, I'll leave now because itseems like you're back to normal. And
she looks at him and she's like, don't don't you want to come to
the party, totally oblivious, andhe's like yeah, I don't know,
and she's like, well, ifyou change your mind, this is the
address. And then I think afterthat, we see her getting ready for

(43:50):
this party. The makeup which doesn'tlook anything like well she actually looks at
the party, but she's getting ready. The makeup is like heavy. Yes,
she is living the dream, havingadult resources and having this huge closet
of all these clothes, all thismakeup, amazing shoes, like she's really

(44:15):
just enjoying it and goes with themost eighties outfit and makeup ever. But
she looks so good. She lookshuge, yeah, which I was noticing
that. I'm like, okay, there are some details that were amped up,
but she was getting ready. Butwhen she actually was put together took
out the party, she like lookedreally really good. Yes, really fun,

(44:37):
Yes, very lively and colorful. And I wonder what the alternate version
of her at thirty would have pickedto wear. Yeah, yeah, because
we never really got to see thatwoman, but based on what she wore
to bed, I mean you couldtell she had good taste and high taste.

(45:00):
Maybe I don't know her still,Yes, was there at this party.
I don't remember what the party wasfor, but the party is I
think Choice is throwing the party. And the party's pretty good. It's very
low energy. The music that theDJ's playing is just not hitt in.

(45:21):
And she's excited because she rode ina limo to the party. She's excited
because she's out on a school night. Yeah, cringe. That was so
cringe, Like her on the rooftopand then like telling Lucy how excited it
was to be out on a schoolthat. I'm like, girl, stop.

(45:44):
And that's another example of is thisgirl actually your friend? Because she
doesn't say anything to her about theschool night comment. I'd be like,
girl, what you're still on theship? Yeah, yeah, I can

(46:04):
already imagine this conversation if this happenedto Jenny. Let's go. I'm like,
I'm gonna find you to Urgent Carebecause we gotta get you scanned.
What did you drink? What didyou smoke? Oh? Man, Well,

(46:27):
she's having a boss at this party. Her boss is like this needs
to liven up, or like helike made a really good joke that I
don't remember. I should run itdown around, like do I stink?
Do I smell? And then wasbecause people are like running out the door,
like if he stunk? And butJenna is so confident She's like,
I can turn this around and goesto the DJ and tells him to play

(46:50):
thriller. Which I have to confess, I don't really know how to do
a thriller. I you know,I've seen it many times. I didn't
know there were so many steps toit. I always thought it was just
the no it's it's pretty intricate dance. So it's hilarious to me how every
single person not only knows the thrillerdance, but they're doing it like professionals,

(47:17):
Like everybody became a professional dancer.Yeah. Well, for so I
have a question for you, isthis similar to the vibe of everybody knowing
the words of I'll Be and ShotgunWedding? Maybe because I'll Be is a

(47:37):
very specific song. How did everybodyknow the like? And thrillers very popular
and well known that everybody knew everystep right, And I've seen the Thriller
video many times in my mind whenwhen Thriller plays in my mind, I

(47:59):
can see the steps, like I'veseen that dance so many times. Could
I perform it? Absolutely not?Absolutely not. So while it's I think
it's supposed to be symbolic of likeall these people when this song came out,
Sure they went nuts for it andthey were practicing the dance, and

(48:20):
I guess, but no, noteverybody's going to have that professional level of
knowing the steps. It's crazy,it's crazy. I was really I wasn't
even looking at her and him wheneverybody was dancing. I was looking at
all the background dancers because they werefucking phenomenal. Yeah, it was too
much, too much. The bossthing comes in and she like saves the

(48:45):
day, Like it's just such aninteresting way of saving the day. I
guess. Even the whole thing wasodd to me. It was interesting.
I learned something new about the thriller. So that's good. Yeah, And
and Matt shows up. Yeah, yeah, Matt shows up. As as
they play thriller, you know,it's only her. It starts out just

(49:07):
her and she starts doing the stepsand everybody's just like watching her, like
what the hell is this girl doing? And then you see Matt comes through
the crowd and she she's so adorablehow she's like, come here, and
she like like she really does actlike a little kid trying to get somebody
out on the dance floor. Andhe goes, and then everybody else is

(49:30):
just so enchanted by them doing thedance, like one by one, you
see people run out to the dancefloor and it becomes this whole thing.
And Matt, I don't know,I guess he really thinks about like what
am I doing here? And he'slike I gotta go and he leaves the
party. It continues, but sheshe seems very like I don't think she

(49:52):
really understands the magnitude of no,they're falling out because she just doesn't understand
why he won't hang out with her. Yeah, she's very oblivious to all
of it. I think The nextnight is when she goes out with Lucy

(50:13):
to that bar or something. Okay, this is where they run into her
boyfriend. Then too later they runinto they run into her boyfriend, and
they run into Matt and his fiance, which is I mean, he is
serious with this woman. To onecomment, her boyfriend is dumb, and
then Matt's fiance is so like controllingbecause I think this is Also she even

(50:36):
makes a comment or hints that, yeah, I'm moving to somewhere in California,
which is funny because side note, all of these movies, it's always
either California or New York, like, no, no, no, she's
oh is she moving to California becauseor is it Chicago? I know she
works in Chicago. Oh, maybeit is Chicago. Never mind, so

(50:57):
I take that back. Maybe itis Chicago. I know she's moved,
and according it to her, it'sa lot easier for him to pick up
his little photography and go, andshe like hints at thought. So we
meet her dumb boyfriend, Jenna's dumbboyfriend, and then Matt's um sort of
selfish fiance. Maybe yeah, Idon't I don't like his fiance. I'm
not convinced that he even really likeshis fiance very much. Well, I

(51:22):
think he makes a comment at somepoint that's like, you know, I'm
good with her. Things are good, like like, I don't think he's
like in love with her, buthe's like, things are fine, they
work out. I don't remember hiscomment, but he makes a hint towards
that. Yeah, I guess it'sa if it ain't broke, don't fix
it thing. And also I madea commitment and I have to see it

(51:46):
through kind of thing. Yeah, which is the saddest reason to get married
to somebody. Absolutely. Another exampleof how Lucy's a shitty friend and she
is surrounded by the wrong people whenthey meet Matt and his fiance Wendy on

(52:07):
the sidewalk after the bar, which, by the way, is very funny
because she and Lucy are at thebar and Lucy points out that that guy,
there's a guy behind you checking youout. Jenna doesn't even think about
herself as a thirty year old. She's thinking of herself as a thirteen year
old, and she doesn't even shedoesn't think about like an age appropriate person

(52:30):
checking her out. She's looking atthe freaking thirteen fourteen year old that's sitting
at the table and goes over andtries to talk to him, which is
so cringe, but it's also it'salso funny because it's funny. He's like,
where do you want to go tojail? It is funny, but

(52:51):
oh yeah, the kids like okay, yeah, he was all for it.
But so after they leave the bar, they see Jenna's New York Ranger
boyfriend across the street signing autographs. She's asking Lucy about her boyfriend. She's
like, hey, exactly, that'syeah. Why why are these people asking

(53:13):
for my boyfriend to sign things? Why is he my boyfriend? Like asking
all these questions and Lucy's not evenshe's not even concerned. She's answering these
questions that should be concerning to her. But whatever, it's very It's that's
a frustration that I have. Shewas basically alone having to piece all this

(53:37):
together. I mean, Maddie helpedsome, but still like the people that
were around her were no help whatsoever. So and I think that's supposed to
be like a big lesson for her, right that all the people in your
life probably shouldn't all be there andbe careful who you are friends with the

(54:00):
company you keep kind of thing, because like all the people she thought were
cool ended up being exactly they're justthey're just acquaintances at that point, you
know. Yeah, So she goesback to her boyfriend's apartment. She has
a very innocent like we're gonna playgames and yeah, and he ends up

(54:25):
doing a strip tease. This isthe put it away comment. I forgot
about that. This is where thathappened. Yeah, she's horrified because he
starts stripping because he says, Iowe you one. I guess. You
know, they have that relationship whereit doesn't even seem like a relationship.

(54:50):
It just seems like it's based onsex. And this man is wearing tidy
whiteis yeah, yeah, this mangrown at man wearing tidy whities. No,
nope, not cute, not cute, not cute, You, sir,
are a professional hockey player. No, he seems so childlike. Yeah,

(55:15):
yeah, he's he's a bit ofThis feels like one of those relationships
where it's like business, you know, like it just makes sense for her
to be dating someone like that.It makes sense for him to be dating
somewhat like her. Yeah, Idon't get the impression that they're having deep
conversations and they're hanging out. Yeah, exactly, probably lots of sex,

(55:35):
just not anything else from that.Huh. She slowly starts learning these things
about herself as she's she is gettingmore comfortable at work. Yeah, and
that's when you find out that she'sbeen having in an affair with someone that
she works with. Husband such anodd guy too. Yeah, he goes

(56:00):
to very bold of him to goto her office. She doesn't exactly.
She it's not it's not like awindow office. It's like frosty glass,
so so like there is privacy, but not really so you can you can
see everything basically, So very boldof him to try to initiate something going

(56:25):
on. Um, she obviously hasno idea. She's like, all right,
I guess he wants to talk abouthis wife or something. And then
he goes to kiss her. Hecalls her pooky. He tries to,
I guess, initiate sex right thenand there, and she kicks him on
the balls. The assistant she seemed, yeah, she was. She was

(56:50):
very thrilled. She was disgusted atfirst because obviously she knows what's going on,
but she was very happy with Jenna'sreaction to this guy. Yeah.
And I love their relationship Jenna andthe assistant. Yeah, Jenna doesn't even
hesitate when it comes to like shedoes anything that she does, she invites,

(57:16):
yeah or along, And I don'tknow, I thought I thought it
was a very cute relationship. Iagree because I remember watching their relationship evolve
and thinking, like, man, that is someone that if you would have
treated it nice and with respect, would have had your back a long time
ago. M m m. Yeah. And she the part where I think

(57:42):
it's right before the husband comes tosee her. They're like walking down the
hall together, she and her assistantafter after a meeting where they're told that
like their numbers have gone down, they're really in trouble. The competitor magazine
is doing them and if they don'trebrand or do something drastic that basically they're

(58:07):
all fucked. Yeah, which Ibelieve Kurmy for wrong. Jenna volunteers,
you know, without realizing, butshe does volunteer to fix this as a
team with Lucy. But then that'swhen they start to fall apart because they
both go a different direction. Yeah, and she overhears Lucy talk shit about
her. Yes, yes, likejust waiting for her demise. Yeah,

(58:30):
they're talking about how she and anothercoworker are talking about how they're so sick
of this act. Yeah, thatshe's got going on and they're just waiting
for her to fall on her ass. Yeah, and they're going to go
do their own thing. And it'sa harsh truth that Jenna has to learn

(58:52):
that, Yes, you can't trusteverybody that you want to trust you.
You can't even always trust the peoplethat called themselves your friends. No.
I think in Lucy's and the othercoworkers defense too, like Jenna was a
pretty horrible person. I don't understandthe ending. Always, um, if

(59:13):
it was that Jenna was the oneselling the cover ideas to Sparkle, Okay,
yeah, she was just a reallyterrible person, So it's almost like
she had it coming. But Iagree because this woman is masking as your
friend. I mean, if you'regonna be my enemy, just be my
enemy, don't you know, don'tneed to pretend to be my friend.
Yeah. And also I mean notexcusing Jenna at all, because at a

(59:37):
certain point you're making a choice tobe a bad person. But Lucy has
always own a bit and she kindof she's responsible for this monster basically,
like she created this monster, shefed it into it. Yes, and
Lucy we know from from when shewas Tom Tom, like she did things

(01:00:00):
that would get her the benefit. So probably she put Jenna in a lot
of situations throughout their career where Jennahad to make maybe some decisions that were
a little questionable. Like I trulybelieve that because she just always wanted to
get something back almost from Jenna.Yeah I gained something. Yeah. Yeah,

(01:00:21):
they for Lucy to be in herlife this long. They worked together,
but Jenna, Jenna has the editorjob, right. I don't know
what Lucy is. I think they'reboth at the same level. But I
think Jenna's like the favorite, gotyou, I think if I'm remembering correctly,
Yeah, because I remember Richard sayingsomething like my two top or favorite

(01:00:45):
mmmmmmm senior editor. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right, it's
possible. I mean Lucy was writingher coattails yeah yeah, since high school,
you know. Yeah, because Jenna, Jenna pushed her out and became
a leader. So Tom Tom waslike, all right, let me hitch

(01:01:07):
my wagon to the top of thefood chain, you know, and just
waiting for the moment that like shecould take her out fully, which I
think was what we see at theend. Oh yeah, because Lucy Coles
are out on her ship at theend, Yeah yeah, and takes on
the job that Jenna was trying tosort of, I guess on herself with

(01:01:28):
the other margazine. Yeah, butI remember this is where Jenna gets really
creative right about the redesign, getsMatt involved tom as the photographer. I
think he was hesitant at first, see like, yeah, wasn't their style
or something. So Jenna, afterhearing Lucy basically plot against her with another

(01:01:52):
colleague, she kind of has acrisis and she she goes to visit Matt,
asks him to go for a walkand they're, you know, talking
about different things, and she askshim, for real what happened between us,
and he tells her, you know, you threw the dollhouse at me

(01:02:14):
after the whole thing went down, and you stop being my friend after that,
and next thing I know, youare part of the Six Chicks and
you have your own life and wewere never friends ever again. And she's
very distraught about this, and hekind of tries to make her feel a
little bit better, like not thathe's excusing it, but I think he

(01:02:35):
can see that she's having a crisisabout it, about this person who was
such an important part of my life. Why would I just leave them high
and dry? And she really startsto stay out loud and admit to herself,
do you know what kind of personI am? Now? Like,
I'm not a good person? Andshe lists out to him all these things

(01:03:00):
that she's found out about herself, about the kind of person that she grew
up to be, and she's reallyreally depressed about it. She's really disappointed
in herself. Like at first shewas like, this is cool because I've
got all the materialistic things checked offabout about what I wanted in my life,

(01:03:21):
but me as a person and thethings that she did to get those
things, she's having a real meltdownabout it. So she walks away from
him. She ends up going toher parents' house in New Jersey, where
she's from Hey and Yeah. Shegoes back to her childhood home. Her

(01:03:47):
parents aren't back yet from their trip. She finds out there they're on a
cruise and she's like, you wenton a cruise without me. She goes
she goes into her or what usedto be her bedroom, sees that her
parents turned it into like an exerciseroom, and she goes down to the
basement. She goes back into thatcloset, and she really tries to retrace

(01:04:11):
her steps and do the things thatshe remembered doing right before she turned into
the thirty year old version of herself. Oh my god, Jen, I
have to be honest. I thewhole part with her going to her parents
house and the song that plays inthe background is it's a Billy Joel song
that I really love, and itmade me cry. It always makes me

(01:04:35):
cry. That part, it alwaysmakes me cry because she like she feels
really lost, and whenever I've everfelt that sense of lost, I want
my parents, I want my mom, you know what I mean. So
I totally could feel what she wasfeeling and you know, wanting to be

(01:05:00):
home and she sneaks into bed withher mom. Yeah, I've done that.
I don't care. Like I'm notembarrassed to admit that. I totally
even now, like sleeping next tomy mom. Like when I was in
Florida, I had to sleep nextto my mom. You know, we
are sharing a bed, but therewas something I don't know. It's something
so calming, and it like takesyou back, you know, just to

(01:05:26):
be with your mom to save hertime, right, Yeah, Yeah,
it doesn't matter. It does notmatter how old you are. Sometimes you
just want your mom. Oh,get a cry. I know, I'm
like feeling emotional depart really really getsme. And she has the heart to

(01:05:46):
heart with her mom the next day, like her mom makes her the cute
little pancakes and she asks her momif she regrets doing anything in her life.
That talk with her mom really helpsher refocus and gives her a little
bit of clarity of like, I'mgoing to turn this around and I'm really

(01:06:08):
gonna I'm gonna be better from thispoint forward. And when she comes home
is when she tries to enlist Mattin the Regram project. Now remember him
being hesitant, but he went withit. And then we see the montage
of them doing all these photo shootsdifferent styles, cheerleaders and the jocks and
family. Very cute stuff. Ilove the montage of the photo shoot and

(01:06:34):
I think Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Gardnerhad such good chemistry together. It is.
It's very cute the part where they'redoing the photo shoot and it's the
photo that he's trying to get ofthe like winter formal yea or prom or
whatever it is. And he's tryingto guide the couple that he's photographing,

(01:06:59):
like how to dance. Yeah,he grabs her and shows them how to
like properly slow dance with a woman, and he dips. Jennifer g I
thought it was so cute. Iwas cheesing, Oh, so cute,
so adorable, And I guess Ididn't catch this until I'm actually seeing it
now, Like this is where theystart to develop grown up feelings for each

(01:07:20):
other. Again, we know he'sbeen keeping tabs on her, but this
is where like this happens and theydo the I'm remembering now. They have
this scene where they're like playing inthe swings. This part definitely gave me
chills down my spine, where they'replaying around and they end up kissing.

(01:07:41):
She's like, you have so muchhair in your in your arm and then
they kiss. Oh that was sobeautiful. I felt it. But also
I felt even though we just sawhis back when he got up. I
don't know what I explained it,but I could feel or send that emotion
of like, oh, this changeseverything for him. Yeah, oh yeah,
it was right. You're right becauseyou're just seeing his back when he

(01:08:06):
sits up after the kiss, andthere's so much in that body language.
You know, he's thinking like,oh shit, yeah the one I kiss
another woman? Yes, yea, yeah, that is exactly like sorry,
oh yes, number two I kissedJenna, just this girl that I was

(01:08:30):
so in love with? Three? What do I do? Now? Do
I break up with? Like? There's so much going on there. See
if you picked up those same pointsand felt that this man is an excellent
actor again, and I know, like probably you know, you watch a
lot of his stuff, You're probablylike, yeah, he is, but

(01:08:51):
I'm like, I don't see hima lot, and he is excellent just
beautiful. I mean I felt thatI felt sad, heavy, oh so
good, really good back acting MarkRuffalo for real. Yeah, ten out
of ten, the entire back intoit, Yeah, yeah, into it.

(01:09:12):
Oh man. I think the nextdays when Jenna has her presentation,
well, Lucy first does her presentation, Yeah and punk rock and you know,
yeah, it's nothing. It's awhole lot of nothing. She's trying

(01:09:35):
to be edgy, but it's she'sthrowing yes, yes, exactly. Van
is Jenna's turn, and she putsa lot of feeling, a lot of
emotion, a lot of thought intowhat she's saying. And it's a beautiful
presentation that gives a fresh look tovoice. And Richard loved it. Yeah,

(01:10:02):
everybody in that room really loved whatshe had to say because she wanted
things to go back to a moreinnocent time and not everybody gets so caught
up in what they look like, right, or like being someone you're not.
She wants to, Yeah, shewants people to be who they are.

(01:10:28):
Yeah. And her whole part ofher speech where she's like, do
you know these women? I don'tknow any of them. She can't relate,
she doesn't see herself. There isno representation for her or the people
that she knows. Yeah. SoI like that whole approach to her version
of the rebrand totally. I thinkit was so refreshing for a magazine that,

(01:10:53):
again back in the eighties was likethirty flirty and thriving. You know,
she did a great job. Wesee it Lucy upset, you know,
or defeat it whatever. Jenna wonthis one, I guess. And
she's in Jenna's office and I thinkthis is when she starts to dig around
and finds the letters of Sparkle SparkleYes, Sparkles, the the Competitor magazine,

(01:11:20):
and so she calls the editor inchief in chief there and we don't
know the conversation, but we cantell that. Then at the end we
find out Lucy ends up taking ajob that awful Jenna was plotting to get.
But Maddie comes by to look forJenna, and Lucy's just horrible and
then says that they're not going touse any of his work and his photographs

(01:11:45):
and then basically was like, youmight as well just sign a release so
we can just use them at leastfor like random stuff or something like that.
She did get him to sign arelease of his photos. Yeah,
she lies to him, She doessome sneaky ship. Yeah she sucks.
But at the same time, Jenna'slooking for Maddie, Yeah, because they

(01:12:06):
they have a date set up tocelebrate the campaign for the magazine that she
had good news that they were chosen. And the part where he is in
his apartment, he's looking at hiscalendar and just kind of like you know,

(01:12:28):
drawing doodling over the date, andyou see that his eyes are covered.
Somebody comes up behind him to surprisehim, and he gets excited because
he thinks it's Jenna and then it'shis fiance and his face, Yeah,
he looks scared. He looks likehe's been caught. Yeah, in something.

(01:12:50):
He totally has a guilty look onhis face. I think I would
pick up on that if I wereWendy, But Wendy also seems pretty self
involved. Yes, that's a goodway to describe Wendy, because I would
definitely I'm thinking up on you andI see your writing. I'm gonna find
out what you're writing. And that'sjust a fact I'm nosy. And also

(01:13:11):
just like it's on his face,Yeah, that's that's not a look of
Oh, I'm surprised to see youhere a day earlier. It's more I'm
surprised to see you period period.Yeah, I don't remember what happened.
He does he ever not? Doeshe just not show up to their date?
Yeah, he doesn't. She goesto find him, and then that's

(01:13:33):
when she sees Wendy. Yes,he goes to He kind of blows off
the date because he has to goget his tuchs. So when Jenna goes
to his apartment, tell him theNews Slash pick him up for their date.

(01:13:54):
Wendy opens the door and tells herhe's getting his touch typical man right
before our wedding, and it's justvery awkward. She finds out that they're
getting married the next day, butalso finds out that Lucy's now the new
editor in chief of Sparkle and basicallyuse Jenna's presentation to get the job.

(01:14:20):
Yep yeah. Richard tells her thatthey've all been betrayed by Lucy. She's
you know, converted over to theother side, and Jenna goes into Lucy's
office to confront her. She's,you know, she's upset, she feels
betrayed, and Lucy just kind ofdoesn't want to hear because she's like,

(01:14:42):
stop stop with this act. Youwant to you know, you want to
act like, oh my god,I did something bad. You and I
are the same being. We bothfuck people over, like you don't have
a right to get mad at mefor doing something that you do to everybody.
That was basically Lucy's attitude towards everything. It's horrible and it's and it's

(01:15:06):
horrible because you know, you're seeinggood Jenna be on the receiving end of
that. Yeah, that it's veryeasy to forget that the Jenna prior to
thirteen year old Jenna coming in,that that Jenna deserved it, she had
it come in basically though I knowgood Jenna had to had to be the

(01:15:30):
one to suffer the consequence of sufferer. Yeah yeah, yeah, which would
help her then become the person thatshe needed to become. But yeah,
yeah, I think this is whereshe like runs into to go to the
wedding. Yeah's kind of thing. She decides she's going to go back to
her hometown because Maddie's going to getmarried in his parents' backyard. So she

(01:15:54):
grabs a taxi to bring her home. Yeah, the driver of the taxi's
actually Chris. It's Chris, andhe looks dumpy. Yeah, yeah,
he does not look good. Hedoesn't look like he's had a good life
either, just not that he peakedin high school. And boys and girls,

(01:16:15):
we all know now that you shouldnot peak in high school. All,
you know, majority of those likehot guys in high school, especially
like the popular jocks. Yeah thatis their story. Yes I don't know
that, Yeah, not at all, but but a lot yeah, a

(01:16:39):
lot that I don't know everyone perse were like and like that group that
does up to now in life. But the view that I have seen,
I'm like, oh wow, now, you know, it reminds me of
that Jack Harlow song that I didn'tpeak in high school, and it's like

(01:17:00):
I am peak in high school,but I I you know, she's she's
basically trying to convince him that likethere's something here between us, like don't
do this because there's a line andI wrote it in my notes. I
think I wrote it wrong, butit's basically like you wouldn't be getting married
to someone else unless it's me,kind of thing, like you should be

(01:17:23):
marrying me. She's putting it allout there. Yeah, she crashes the
wedding, which the whole scene betweenthem is really heartbreaking. Yeah, and
it is on the one hand,it's a really fucked up thing to do.
Yes, absolutely, and you coulddefinitely tell again as a person with

(01:17:47):
morals. He's kind of like goingback to the conversation at earlier, like
he's like, this is it,this is what I committed to, this
is what I'm gonna do. There'sa line that he says that is so
sad where you know, they're talkinga bit and he basically tells her,
you know, I choose Wendy kindof thing. He says to her,

(01:18:10):
you know, I'm not gonna lie. This brought up a lot of feelings
that I didn't think I could feelanymore, and all that stuff. And
he says to her, you don'tget the dream house, but you get
awfully close. That is so sosad, And I'm sure if Wendy had
heard it, she would not appreciatethat comment. But it's it's so sad

(01:18:33):
that that is how he sees hisrelationship with his fiance, that he's admitting
that he's settling for this woman.Yes, I don't want to be in
that place like that, like aWendy's place right now. But again,

(01:18:54):
I think you're right. She's soself absorbed. She does not realize she
know, she doesn't realize she wearsthe pants in that relationship. So she
yeah, he decides I'm going tomarry her, and Jenna says, don't
worry about me. I just wantyou to be happy. I love you

(01:19:14):
no matter what kind of thing. And and he says, I've always loved
you, Jenna, and I waslike no, but it's so freaking sad.
And Jenna grabs her her dollhouse. He has kept it all these years
in his parents times, I know. And she takes the dream house and

(01:19:44):
she leaves and she goes next doorto Yeah, she goes next door to
her parents house and sits down andshe hears the music start for the wedding
and oh my god, that hurtmy heart and she starts crying, and
the wind picks up and the dustthat was left on that dreamhouse starts.

(01:20:05):
Yeah, she didn't have to sayanything. It was all in her heart.
She didn't have to use any wordsyet. But the magic does knew
exactly what she needed at that moment. That was the universe that was like,
okay, she learned her lesson.Yeah, let's put her back to
bring her back so that she cando things right. And homegirl again wakes

(01:20:27):
up. I don't know what shecan cuss. Was she's sleeping, who
knows, but it's back in thecloset in the basement as a thirteen year
old on her party on her birthdayday or her party date day? Wow,
why did I just have such ahard time saying that? And she
sees Mattie when she opens the door, if I'm not mistaken, and she's

(01:20:49):
like so happy to see him.She again has like you said earlier,
she has all this knowledge, allthese memories of that thirty year old.
Now, now that I think aboutit, what a freaking gift from the
universe to have that, to beable to take back with you at thirteen.
Yeah. But then Tom Tom comesback in with the paper, and

(01:21:11):
I don't remember the exchange, butI know that Jenna rips up the report
from her hand, rips it up, and then takes off with Mattie to
do something. Yes, tom Tomgoes to get her scarf she had tied
it around Jenna as the blindfold, and Jenna grabs I was like, yes,
girl, she grabbed that paper.I think she said because Lucy had

(01:21:33):
said, do you want to bethe pot or the kettle? They're both
black? You know that, thatsaying when when they had the confrontation when
it's thirty year old self, sheshe mentions that, and then when Jenna
runs into her back as a thirteenyear old, I think she said,
you can be the pot and thekettle all by yourself, bitch, And

(01:21:55):
it rips up the paper. Ididn't catch that. That was so good
good, don't I Bill was adrink out her too. I was like,
yes, I love that moment.I loved how again she like ran
out And I don't know if maybeI caught the logic of what it was
a fun thing they we're gonna door like the maybe the Easter egg.
But like, I just love thatshe left her own party right who she

(01:22:17):
was like so excited to have thecool people in, I mean the whole
three or one eighty. She lefther whole party to do something fun,
specifically with Matt. And then sothey run up and us we are expecting
them to run out of the house. They run out of the house,
but they are They're the ones thatgot married at Maddie's house. Oh I

(01:22:41):
just got tinkle tinkles all over mybody. Oh I love that so are
married and then they the end ofthe movie is them moving into their house.
Now here is a very embarrassing confession. I've seen this movie multiple times.
Okay, it wasn't until this viewingthat I looked at them sitting on

(01:23:06):
the couch in front of their houseand I was like, oh my god,
it's the dream house. The houseis like pink and stuff Jen.
For the longest time, I don'tknow why I thought that they were moving
into her parents house. It neverregistered that it was this pink dream Barbie

(01:23:30):
dream house type of house. Idid not notice that until just a couple
of days ago. You know nowthat you say that, I need to
go back and rewatch it because Ididn't realize that. Yeah, I don't
know why I thought they were movinginto her parents house. Can I tell
you what I thought you were gonnasay? What? She sat on the
couch, on the light colored couchwith her shoes on. She put her

(01:23:55):
shoes on the couch. I thoughtit was wrapped in plastic though. No,
there was a part where they satwas not wrapped. Oh yeah.
I was like, it's like,girl, I don't think your commerce are
clean. But okay, So Ijust I just wanted to share that moment
because that was very difficult for meto do it. I love that movie,

(01:24:17):
I really do. It was suchan excellent movie. I forgot how
good it was. Yeah, AndI'm like, why don't I watch it
more often than what I have already? So it is talk about it.
It's a comfort movie for me ittook comfort movie. Yeah it is.
I think it's about to become oneof mine for real, because um,

(01:24:38):
anyway, I won't spoil it,but let's talk about our rating because then
I can wrap it up in abow for you, and I think you
might be mighty surprised by my rating. To tell me, what's what's your
what's your rating on a scale ofone to five zombies in honor of the
thriller video? What is your ratingfor thirteen going on thirty? I gave

(01:24:59):
this movie five zombies, five outof five. I'll tell you exactly like
I said earlier, I've realized itwas my first time watching this movie in
my thirties, and it felt alittle bit more comforting. Five minutes into
the movie, and immediately I waslike, why have I not watched this
movie more often than I have?Because it's such a fun, lighthearted movie

(01:25:23):
and I get closure even though sheputs her dirty shoes on the couch,
I get closure. I was thinkingthat. At the end, I was
like, Jen has her closure withthis movie, and you see what I
mean. It doesn't even have tobe that long, just a few seconds,
but just give me a glimpse ofwhere they could be today, and

(01:25:44):
this movie didn't even though it waslike right after their wedding or whatever,
but like, it did it forme that they were starting this life together,
and that's closure enough for me.So I have no notes. I
thought it was a great movie. So I give a five out of five
zombie emojis. Now tell me yourwriting, Priscilla, we are aligned.
I give it five out of fivezombie emojis. I love this movie.

(01:26:11):
I feel like every time I seeit, I appreciate it more. It
is a comfort movie, but kindof like what you said, I don't
watch it as often as you wouldthink for someone who considers this a comfort
movie. I just I think it'sadorable. I think their performances are so
good, their chemistry is so good. The story is really cute. I

(01:26:35):
liked it. I just everybody inthe everybody in the movie was great.
I love it five out of five, no notes, no contest, like
love it. I love this Yes, So what I'm hearing as your friend
is that we are going to stopwatching the toxic movie my best friend's wedding

(01:26:56):
as a comfort movie, and I'mgoing to make sure we are watching thirteen
