(00:00):
Hey, hey, Hey, thatwas an interesting intro. I was gonna
say something else. Cut it,just cut it. I don't want that
part to happen. I was startingto say something and then said something else.

(00:26):
Now I'm gonna leave it. Watchno, I like I like that
ahead, you know what, Ijust cut it, cut it. That's
it. That's the intro. I'msticking to it. Welcome to Meet Cute,

(00:47):
a podcast for friends Jenda Mars andPriscilla Wilson get together to discuss all
things rom coms, from the classicsto the latest releases. We'll be diving
deep into the world of romantic comedies. So we're talking about Paul Springs today.
Yes, this episode is Palm Springs, a very different kind of rom

(01:15):
com, pretty weird, and soI'm really looking forward to hearing what you
have to think about this movie.I full disclaimer, I love this movie.
I do. I'm a big AndySamberg fan, and I remember when

(01:38):
this came out because it was likeit was during the pandemic, so it
was almost like the perfect kind ofmovie to watch because the whole movie is
like these two people stuck in atime loop, and that's really what the
pandemic the whole quarantine. That's whatit felt like. You were stuck inside.
Every day was the same. Sothe timing of it was kind of

(02:01):
funny. Did you watch it backthen too, like when it Yeah,
because it was it was released onHulu. I don't even remember when it
came out, but I know itwas definitely like PANDAMT like in the thick
of Pandemic. So when it gotwhen it got released on Hulu, I'm

(02:23):
pretty sure I watched that that firstweekend that it was available, and I
really loved it. Well, thiswas my first time watching this movie,
actually, so thank you for pickingit because this is I don't know then
I even remember it back then, but yeah, I don't remember seeing it
really promoted a whole lot. Sowhen it got put on Hulu, and

(02:50):
thankfully Hulu always has like the trailerwhen you when you go into movies,
so you can watch the trailer beforehand. So I mean, it looked interesting,
and like I said, I'm abig Andy Samdberg fan, so I
was like, eh, why not, Like what else were we doing?
We were not we were not goingout, we were doing anything. So

(03:15):
some of us were preparing to moveto Tulsa, Oklahoma. That is true.
That is true. Guilty Yeah,I no, yeah, I don't.
I don't remember it. But Iwhen I first my initial reaction when
you said this, watch Palm Springs, I was like, wait, this
is a rom com. Like Ihad to like, almost like read it

(03:38):
a few times. I did notwatch the trailer on purpose because I was
like, Okay, I'm gonna goin. But I was like, this
is a rom com and I'll justtell you without spoiling my friend my writing
at the end. But I'm actuallyreally glad you picked this movie. This
is a good movie. Oh interesting. I wasn't sure. I felt like

(04:00):
it could go either way because, like I said, it's different. It's
not your conventional rom com, verysci fi feel to it. So I'm
glad. No, good job.I'll go into it a little more later,
but good job, because I likedit. Tell us a little bit

(04:23):
about this movie, give us alittle step now. So Palm Springs is
a movie I would say like asci fi rom com with Andy Samberg and
Kristin Melatti I think her last nameis, and they are two people who

(04:44):
are stuck in a time loop experiencingthe same day over and over. It's
it's never explicitly clear for how longthey're experiencing the same day over and over,
and that day happens to be thewedding day of her younger sister.
It's kind of like this older moviecalled Groundhog Day, where it's the same

(05:09):
premise, this guy is experiencing thesame day over and over and over again
until he changes, until he learnscertain lessons. This is kind of like
that, But there's also the sciencey aspect of it, where there is

(05:33):
like an actual there's like an actualexplanation for why they are stuck in a
time loop, physics and all thatstuff. They fall in love and learn
a lot about each other in thetime loop. That's it. Oh,
we love a time loop. Ihave to tell you the first thing on

(05:57):
my notes, and I just needto share it right away, right out
of here. Okay, Peter Gallagher. Just that's it. That's my note.
You like Peter Gallagher. I lovePeter Gallagher. He is on a
lot of shows that I've seen, like cop related shows like SVU and whatnot.

(06:18):
I can eat him up with toast. Yeah, he's been in a
lot of stuff. I like himas an actor. I like him as
an actor. He hasn't changed verymuch. He has this thick eyebrows.
He's also he Schmidt's dad. Yes, mm hmmm mmm mm hm hmm.

(06:44):
Yeah, that's my note. That'swhat I'm done. I I have a
question for you. So, Ilike, again, I wasn't sure how
you were going to feel about thismovie. Do you think now I know,

(07:08):
like a little bit later in themovie, Sarah, the character Sarah,
she ends up like really digging deepinto what it is that they are
involved in, and you know, learning quantum physics and all these scientific theories

(07:29):
and everything about how to get outof this time loop. So there is
that science aspect to it. Butdo you think do you think they had
to experience this time loop because ofcertain things that they've done in their life,
Because she mentions it at one pointwhere she's like, maybe it's one
of those things where you're like inlimbo because of some shitty things that you

(07:55):
did in life, and you willbe able to move forward once you make
amends to somebody or learn your lessonwhatever it is. Do you think it
was purely a science thing or doyou think that they were stuck because of
the people that they were. Idon't want to complicate my answer too much,

(08:18):
but I'm gonna go I could gofifty to fifty on it, but
I'm gonna go with Actually, I'llhave a question for you which I think
will help me answer this question becauseright now I'm leaning towards I think it
was purely a science thing because Idon't remember in the movie where we find
out why this even happened to Nileand how it happened to him, Like

(08:41):
I know Roy got involved with himbecause jumped into the cave too, Yes,
but Niles was already he was alreadystuck in the time loop when Roy.
So that's that's where I don't understand, Like where what happened to Niles
at this what? Maybe because itseems like he had to live it once,

(09:03):
Yeah, for him to be stuckin the time loop of the wedding
day. Yeah, yeah, right, because that's why, which I don't
understand why where Roy came in.But I guess he chose to come into
the wedding. Yeah, he wasinvited to the wedding and he went solow

(09:26):
because I I'm pretty sure his wifecouldn't go or something, so he was
making an appearance. So by chancehe attended the wedding, and I think
he was even late. Oh thatmakes sense. He attended the wedding every
time, but that one time hehung out with Niles, it's when he
fell into the Okay, that makessense. But see, I don't know

(09:48):
why this happened to Niles. Sothat's why I'm leaning towards purely scientifical,
because I though I can understand whathis character learned at the end, I
just don't know how got there.Yeah, yeah, what about you?
I'm I'm fifty to fifty. Eventhough they they explain it with the whole

(10:11):
the weird cave and the vortex thatthey're in and they're stuck in this energy
box, like the whole scientific explanation, but I do think half of it
is the people, like the kindof people that they are. They both
now, we don't know anything aboutNiles before this happened, but clearly he

(10:39):
has been in this time loop forlong enough that he can't even remember what
his life was like before being stuckin there. She asks him, what
was your life? Like? Whatdid you do for work? Like?
Tell me about yourself, and hereally can't remember, and so I think

(11:05):
she and him were just like,I don't know, asleep in their life.
She did something really shitty, whichis why why she feels like,
oh, I'm being punished for whatI did and I have to make amends

(11:26):
in order to get out of this. I don't know about him just kind
of feels like he's been sleepwalking hiswhole life. I like your theory of
sleepwalking because even even with a terriblething she did, I think it comes
as a result of the life shesort of just lived versus clocked into she

(11:50):
talked about, you know, sheknew she wasn't marrying the right guy,
she still went through with this.So I was like sleepwalking too or sleep
yahah Yeah. Yeah, So Ilike your theory a lot. Actually it
could be both, So I guessI lean I could go fifty to fifty
on it because mhmm. There wasone scene that I specifically want to talk

(12:15):
about because it literally had me gasping. When they're like cooking up in the
desert Niles and Sarah and he likestands up to take off his like,
you know, clothes and fucking getsshot with a fucking arrow. I was
gagged. I mean, would youreally like get up and follow him.

(12:39):
What would you do? I feellike I would run away at that point.
Honestly, I'm I might. Imight just be paralyzed with shock.
Imagine you you're about to like sleepwith this person out in the middle of
the desert and they're being literally highby some weirdo. You don't know anything

(13:03):
about their history. Yeah, Idon't. I understand why she followed him,
because she's like, I wanted tomake sure you were okay, but
you don't know where that other manis. You don't know if now you
become part of it too. Isselfish out yet? No, I get

(13:26):
it because it's like I don't wantanything to happen to the guy, But
what am I gonna do? I'mgonna get involved and I'm just gonna get
myself killed. But okay, Soshe runs over to like the entrance of
the cave, which is where thisvortex is. It's a weird light and

(13:50):
if you go into the cave, you get trapped inside this energy box,
which is essentially the time loop, get stuck in that particular day. Whatever
he's pulling, he's pulling himself intothe cave so that he can get out
of that day and start over andbe done with it. And she's calling

(14:13):
after him, asking if he's okay. He's yelling at her to get away
from him, that she needs toleave, to not go into the cave.
You don't have to tell me twice. I'd be like, all right,
cool, I will go get help. I'm not going to follow this
man into a cave that's glowing. It's not going to happen, right,

(14:43):
No, Priscilla, I was withyou up until my brain literally went hmmm.
I think it depends what mood I'min that day. Oh, if
you're feeling if you're feeling adventurous. If I'm feeling adventurous and I feel like,
you know what, bring it,universe, let's do this, let's
dance, then I might. Ican tell you a thousand percent. I

(15:11):
could be feeling adventurous. But that'sthat's the hole. Me hooking up with
a stranger in the desert, That'sthat's the adventurous part. There's no glowing
caves for me. No, thankyou. That's very true, that's very
fair. I feel like if I'dalready done that adventurous thing of fucking up

(15:33):
in the Streenger, I'm like,Oh, it's like it's like I'm on
drugs at that point. Also andalso me personally, I don't know about
you. If the person, ifthe person I'm hooking up within the desert
gets shot with an arrow and isbeing hunted, I take that as a

(15:56):
sign that I did something I'm notsupposed to do. I should sid at
all. So I'm not gonna I'mnot I'm just not gonna pursue him.
Wait, wait, because i gottado exactly why I came into my mind
when he said that your main characterenergy is so high, you take someone

(16:23):
else being hunted him pursuit as asidefrom the universe to you that this is
a bad idea, Priscilla, like, what are the odds? I made
a decision to do something that Iwouldn't normally do, have sex with a
stranger in the middle of the desert, and what happens. It gets interrupted

(16:48):
because the guy gets shot with anarrow and the hunter walks past me as
if I'm not even there screaming myhead off. Then I've been spared.
Oh, I've been scared, andI'm gonna leave. Gosh just reads like
a novel. Look, this isgrowth, Jen, You know what I

(17:11):
mean, like I went to wow, I love Oh my goodness, I'm
I'm grateful for your wisdom. Friends. My eyes are wide open on the
signs that I'm being given. Listen, don't care if nobody else, if
somebody else gets hurt, but I'mtaking my signs. I'm really sorry,
sir. I will go and gethelp for you, but I'm taking my

(17:34):
ass out of this desert while Istill can. No, my friend,
that's a very good point, andI love it. You were braver than
me. Let me check my moodfor the day, like, let me
I'm feeling, you know, likecheck in, you know, let's see,

(18:00):
let's see what path this leads medown, Like, oh my gosh.
Well she goes in, but Ifeel like because there's a the vortext
thing which just sucks you in becauseit doesn't make that sound of like you
know, like you're like, yeah, she didn't. She she did go
into the cave, but she didn't. I don't think she got too too
far, Like I don't think shegot too close to the ball of energy

(18:25):
or whatever. And then she gotpulled in. Yeah yeah, And the
next morning she's like, whoa, what the hell? Why am I reliving?
He's really reliving his day. There'sthis I've literally typed it out because
it made me feel so uneasy whenhe said tomorrow will always and forever be

(18:45):
today. Oh even reading it rightnow, it made me feel so uneasy.
And it's obviously a fact what hesaid, but I don't know why.
I don't know if if, ifif you got the same vibe.
But it's a line that made mefeel like, you know, the people
I don't do well with, peoplethat just like settle and just are like
this is this is it. Andit sounded so like, yeah, tomorrow

(19:08):
will always in forever of you today. Yeah, he he's somehow both.
He sounded both defeated but also likelike just settling, like you said,
like no reason to put up afight. This is what it is.

(19:30):
You can't change it, just giveup kind of thing, which is understandable.
I mean, it sounds like he'sbeen trapped in here for a really
really long time, never was ableto figure out how to get out of
it. He even tells her thathe has killed himself in that time loop

(19:55):
many different ways, and all itdoes is put back to the start of
the day. So three ways thatyour day ends and you start over,
you fall asleep, you die,but not really dying or going to the
cave, and the cave kind ofputs you back to square one. I

(20:19):
think the killing yourself thing is reallycrazy, and I mean maybe because I
mean I don't know, if Ihad to experience the same day over and
over, depending on what particular dayit was, I might want to blow
my brains out as well. ButI don't know. Like when she accepts

(20:45):
the fact that they're stuck in thereand she's like, all right, let's
make the most of it, let'sjust do whatever. When they steal the
plane, that's terrifying to me,Like it was funny, but also I
was like, oh my god,Like I wonder if you're stuck in the

(21:07):
time loop however long, if youjust don't care that the plane is going
down, and maybe you don't feelscared. I don't know, but that
sounds like a nightmare. Yeah.I feel like I've rest in it a
lot with her character because it's likeI feel like I would have the freak

(21:27):
the initial freak out because it's thatgosping for air of like wow, this
is real, Like this is thisis what I have to deal with now.
And then I was assuming as well, just like you said, just
now, like they you know, she jumps in, she dives into it,
She's like, all right, we'regonna make the best of it.
But I assume at some point Ijust sort of lose track of it.

(21:49):
And for her, even though whatmade her like kind of wake up out
of it was when she realized howshit you have a person? She was
But I'm just I feel like thatresting to me, Like I feel like
I would go through those stages ofthe process and then get to a point
where I'm like, Okay, that'senough, Like I can't. That feels
very I don't know. That feelslike a lot of like our lives and

(22:11):
I'm gonna lump both of us inthere, like we get through it and
we come out on the other side. I don't know where I was going
with that thought, but it justI like, I really liked her character
because of the progression she made.Yeah, well her, I mean her

(22:32):
A big factor for her is thefact that she's reflecting on something really horrible
that she's done. So the startof every day she's waking up to that
act that she did come to findout. You know, she's she's always

(22:55):
out. Yeah, she's always lookinga little weird every time she wakes up,
and you see like you see herlooking at the bed, you see
her looking at the bathroom door. And a little bit later in the film,
it's revealed that the room that she'sin is not her room. It
is her brother in law's room.So she slept with her sister's fiance turning

(23:25):
husband the night before their freaking wedding. So every morning she's waking up but
has to deal with that knowledge rightthen and there. Her her story is
really what made me feel like,I think this is fifty to fifty a

(23:48):
freaking weird science thing, but alsoa consequence of her shitty behavior like karma,
right, because that's like, that'sbeyond, beyond betrayal, and so
that propels her to be like,I need to get the fuck out of

(24:11):
here. I need to figure somethingout. And also she recognizes everything they
do is meaningless, Like on theone hand, it's like, cool,
I'm not getting older, but there'sno forward movement in your life, Like
I want to progress, I wantto grow. There are things that I

(24:33):
want to do and achieve and You'renot going to do that in twenty four
hours, no matter how many livesyou're getting. So I'm with her,
like I think for a little,I'm like you, I would be freaked
out. Maybe I would be like, all right, let's let me get

(24:53):
as much shit done, knowing thatI can't die, or like these things
can't happen to me, or it'snot like a permanent decision kind of thing.
But eventually I would I would wantto experience the rest of my life.
And Niles seems scared of life.He he's kind of given a new

(25:19):
lease on his position and looks atthings with a different perspective because it's just
really been him in the time loopRoy becomes part of it, but Roy's
not there the entire day, andRoy sometimes makes an appearance, but he
holds such a grudge against Niles thatwhen he does show up, it's to

(25:45):
torture and kill Niles. But he'scoming from far away, he's not already
there, So some days he popsup, other days he just kind of
stays where he's at. So it'sreally just Niles going through the motion by
himself and having all these other peoplearound him, and then Finally, when

(26:10):
Sarah's kind of caught in it,they're there together, they're in the same
place. They team up, andI feel like he's kind of brought back
to life. Yes, but forhim. He says to her towards the
end, like I want to bewith you, but I want to be
with you in here. If weleave here, we have to deal with

(26:34):
all the ugliness that life has togive, and in here we get to
be together and nothing can happen tous kind of thing. And she's like,
Nope, she does not accept thatas her reality. I love that
for her. I love that she'sthe one that figured it out. Of

(26:55):
course, she had to be theone to figure out how to get out
of there, but I do lovethat for her. I love how actually,
for both of them, they wereboth honest, even when they were
in that moment, they were bothhonest and what they wanted that question of
for her come be with me orfor him to stay with me, it's
like it's tough, but they wereboth honest. Like he even was like

(27:18):
I'm codependent, like I, youknow, and I appreciate that. It's
it's that compromise I think I lovedso much and then of course he realizes,
Hey, like I actually want tobe with her, like, no
matter where we are, like I'mnot scared to go back to real life
anymore because no matter where, wedon't have chills. No matter where we

(27:42):
are, I want to be withher. And it's yeah, yes,
I like what he says to herat the end, but I also like
what she says to him, likeshe kind of you know, he goes
on and on, he has thatbig speech, and she the first thing

(28:03):
she says to him is I cansurvive without you. It's it's definitely for
her, it's more of I don'tneed to be with you, but I
want, And for him, Ifeel like it's both. But it's funny
because they both are propositioning each other. He's saying his whole like his stances,

(28:30):
let's be together and stay the same, and she's let's be together and
grow. And I like, Idon't know, I like that they that's
the the two sides the same.KOI, my dearest Percilla, I can
literally hug you right now. Ihave a note on this because I don't

(28:52):
know. Maybe I was just sointrospective when I watched this movie, and
I was like, oh my gosh, like there's so the message was so
good. And my note literally says, when you meet a guy at a
low point for the both of youand then she snapped out of it,
So then he's willing to grow andevolve together like that off chills again,

(29:12):
chills. That is such And Iknow for a fact you and I have
both experiences in our lives where wemay be maybe not a low point,
but it's like we got in asituation or relationship or whatever where yeah,
you're not both at your best, you know, but then one of us

(29:33):
snaps and says, hold on,I want more from my life. I
need to evolve, I need togrow. There's more to it. And
it takes a partner to be willingto also want to do that. And
no shade on people that don't,because again you have to also be willing
and ready to do that yourself. But my goodness chills at the the fact

(30:00):
that like he could have easily missedthat call, but instead he chose to
jump in and grow and evolve withher with the unknown ahead of them.
Yeah, when so in you know, in the movie, they're kind of
going along and she has that momentwhere she's like, I'm getting out of

(30:22):
here. She it's it's the dayafter. They are out in the desert.
They're kind of having a heart toheart. It's funny too, because
he's like, his whole thing isI don't care about the past, Like
the only thing that matters is likeright now, and she is like,

(30:47):
well, you kind of have toknow what you're getting and also not reflecting
on the past, you're doomed torepeat the same mistakes. And that's when
you know, she tells him thatshe was married and all that stuff,
and that night they end up sleepingtogether. So the next morning she isn't

(31:10):
a funk because she wakes up andshe's remembering what happened the night before,
and she's so like happy and stuff. But instead of like getting up right
away, she snuggles in bed.The shower turns off, and that's when
you see her brother in law standingthere, and so it kind of just
ruins her mood for the rest ofthe day. That she and Niles are

(31:33):
in the car just driving, he'slike so cute about like, oh,
it's the last night, like itmeant a lot, and she's not even
paying attention because just having to facethat ugly side of her face, the

(31:55):
ugly things that she's done and stuff, So she's not really She's kind of
being an asshole to Niles, andRoy ends up coming and Niles wants to
run away from it. She's tellinghim, you need to face him,
you need to stand up to him. Whatever. She ends up like,

(32:17):
really fucking Roy up. She hitshim with a car and they are sitting
on the ground next to each other. They got arrested. They're handcuffed on
the ground, and she's kind ofshe's kind of just being a brat and
being a little crazy, and hecalls her on it, and they get

(32:37):
into an argument and she lashes outat him and she says, if I
knew I would be stuck in herewith a little bitch, basically, I
would have never slept with you.And he quickly says, please, We've
slept together like a thousand times. When they first were talking and she first

(32:58):
comes to terms with the fact thatshe's stuck in this time loop. She
asks him who have you hooked upwith? And he tells her some people,
and when she asks have we everhooked up, He's like, no,
I don't think so, but I'mreally fuzzy on it because I've been
here for so long, so Idon't remember so well. And she seems

(33:22):
skeptical, but leaves it at that. So when he says that, she
feels very betrayed that he lied toher, and that was like the final
straw for her, like having towake up to her big mistake and then
have this person kind of drop abomb on her. She gets up,

(33:46):
lets herself get hit by an eighteenwheeler, so she start her day over.
But when she wakes up from that, she's on a mission. She's
researching, she's talking to scientists sheneeds, she's figuring out what to do
to get them out of there.I'm really glad she figured out, because
at the end they both figure outthat they have to or not, let

(34:08):
me clarify, she figures out,but they at the end they both do
it. That she has a threepoint something second window to like blow themselves
up so they can get out ofthe energy loop, and they do it,
you know, so they have theheart of heart they do it.
Did you have the same thought myfriend they left Roy? That what they

(34:30):
left Roy? Well, okay,so I was gonna ask you. She
mentions like when she finally shows up, because when she gets hit by the
by the truck, Niles doesn't seeher again for a while because she's out
doing her research and whatever. Sohe's depressed. And that's when he finds

(34:52):
out, like, oh my god, I love her whatever. When she
comes back and she tells him thisis what I found out. She does
mention that she called him, thatshe called Roy and left a message about
what she feels. This is whatneeds to be done. I've tested it

(35:15):
out, this is what needs tobe done. She left a voicemail.
At the end of the movie, the credits start to roll, but then
there's another scene. So I actuallyI wasn't sure if you saw it.
There's a scene. Okay, sothere's an after credit scene where it goes

(35:37):
back to the wedding and Roy comesto the wedding and he sees Nile Niles
and taps him on the shoulder andhe's like, hey, I got your
girlfriend's message. Sounds really crazy?Does she thinks she can do it?
And Niles looks at him, buthe's like, I'm sorry, I don't

(36:02):
know who you are. And Roy'slike what He's like, do you mean
to like talk to me, andRoy looks in his face and he realizes,
oh my god, they got outbecause this version of Niles doesn't know
who I am. So he realizesthat they got out and realizes that what

(36:25):
she the voicemail that she left, that that is what he has to do.
So oh, but we don't knowif he does it, but we
know that we don't, right,we don't. We don't see him actually
do it, but we we seehim realize, like, holy shit,
this worked. I need to doit, Priscilla, Thank you. I

(36:46):
didn't. I turned off the movie. I was like, oh, what
a fun movie. Then I waslike, oh shit, Roy, I
forgot about that post credit scene andI didn't turn the movie off right away,
so when it came on again,I was like, oh right,
And then I was thinking about textingyou to be like, did you watch

(37:10):
like further? Like I hope heleft it on, but I kind of
didn't want to like ruin anything.I don't know, so I'm sorry I
shaved. He No, this isgood because now I'm gonna go rewatch.
I'll probably fast forward just to theend to see that. But thank you,
because it literally was eating at me. I'm like, oh, my

(37:30):
gosh, like they just left himthere, and like, you know,
when Niles went to see Roy athis house in Irvine, like Roy was
like, yeah, first this sucked. I won't be able to see my
little girl get married and things likethat. But like he's like, but
now I like, you know, like he's he liked it and he was
enjoying it, especially after the waythat he endured pain the day before because

(37:55):
of her running him over or rightright yeah, because he said to him,
I had no idea what I wasputting you through. And the whole
point that Niles tries to make throughoutthe movie is yeah, they can't die

(38:19):
per se, but the pain isreal. They can feel pain. So
the worst thing that you could dois not die instantly and like be stuck
in a hospital and die slowly andfeel all that pain. So and that's
that's actually what ends up sparking theargument between him and Sarah when they're sitting

(38:43):
on the ground, handcuffed, andhe calls her out on her shit and
he's like, what did I tellyou? And also he makes a point
which again furthers my suspicion that it'snot just a signific reason why they got
stuck in the time loop because hewas like, I told you, pain

(39:05):
is very real, Like it matterswhat we do to people, it matters
how we treat them. Oh like, yeah, we remember, we remember
the things that we do to people. You know. I just realized what
the comedy you just made. Likemaybe maybe it is both things intertwined,
like because isn't there. I feellike my knowledge is a little fuzzy on

(39:29):
this, but a lot happens, you know, moon, you know,
fucks up with our emotions, likemm hmmm. So like I think it's
both. I think it's like yeah, And the the weird thing is like
in the beginning when she's when shedoesn't really believe that she's stuck there,

(39:52):
she asks him where's this cave?Where can I find it? And he's
like, there's no point and yougoing out there? And she's like,
just tell me where it is andhe's he tells her it's in the desert.
So she goes out there in thedaytime. She's like dying of dehydration
and he catches up with her andshe's like, where is this cave?

(40:14):
And he's like you have to wait, and she was like, what do
you She thinks that he's just beingwithholding, and he's like, no,
the cave shows itself at a particulartime, which, again, if these
are two people that need to learna lesson or I don't know, like

(40:39):
karma is coming for them or whatever, the cave would reveal itself to certain
people because it is at a certaintime or whatever. So they were meant
to stumble into the cave, maybenot Roy, because you know, Niles

(41:01):
kind of did that to him.Yeah, but he only did that to
him because they were like completely cokedup and Roy that night that they meet,
Roy is being very negative. He'skind of shitting on his marriage and

(41:21):
marriage as an institution, that it'sa bottomless pit of despair or whatever,
and kind of just feeling negative abouthis life overall. So Niles is like,
he he's having so much fun rightnow, he didn't want it to
end. I have somewhere to showyou, and brings him to the cave

(41:43):
so you know, he could experiencethe same fun over and over and over.
But Roy did not take that ashim doing that. Yeah, yeah,
that's what Roy wanted out of that. That's not how he wanted to
repeat the fun, right exactly.Yeah, it was a good movie.
It was a really good movie.I love the movie when when she tells

(42:09):
him, like at the end whenshe comes back and she's like, she's
getting ready for the wedding, She'sgonna do it one more time. She
gives her sister a heartfelt speech orwhatever. She tells him, we're gonna
we're gonna do this wedding and thenwe're gonna get the hell up out of
here after the wedding. And he'strying to convince her, like, I

(42:32):
don't know, maybe you need todo another test, and they sit down
and he confesses that he loves her, and she kind of doesn't believe him
because she's like, how do youknow that I'm the only person stuck in
here with you? And her wholefear is we're gonna get sick of each

(42:52):
other, and he says, towhat is that? He's like, we're
already sick of each other. It'sthe best. And so it does.
It does. There is there arethose themes of like, how do you
know? There's a lot of peoplein this world? But he was so
sure, and I think it's becauseshe brought him back to like type of

(43:15):
thing and it really is down tolike the person you do the mundane things
with, you know, like youstill enjoy them. Yeah, and I
think he realized that at that point. I I don't know how I feel
about about the wedding continuing, youknow what I mean, Like did you

(43:40):
want her to put the groom out? Well, when she feels like that
she needs to make amends to somebodythat she wronged, and then that'll that'll
guarantee that she gets out of theday. At the at the wedding,
I think before their officially pronounced manand wife, she kind of interrupts the

(44:08):
wedding and she hugs her sister andlike whispers something in her ear. So
in that instance of that particular day, she confesses to her sister about what
happened, and she's so sure thatlike, oh, I owned up to
it, and you know, I'mgonna get out of here. But it
doesn't work. Kind of like itkind of bothers me that like her sister

(44:32):
doesn't know, that's such a that'ssuch a like shady thing. Her sister
doesn't know. All she says islike she she says, to what's his
name, Ben, the the husband, I forget his name, Abe why

(44:52):
do I think Ben, She saysto him, like, don't fuck this
up. But I don't know.It didn't really sit right with me that
like we're gonna pretend that this didn'thappen, Like that's a really big secret
to be keeping. This is youlooking for justice, because I'll tell you

(45:17):
why. I agree with you ina way, But in another way,
here's another perspective that may help.I don't think this was an ongoing thing.
No, yeah, I also don'tknow how far they actually got because
she wakes up dressed every morning withlike shorts and a tank top, So

(45:37):
I don't know that they may befull on hot an affair. Maybe they
just like made out and then andthen when she tells him, when she
realizes and tells him, he startsor when Sarah realizes right and like confronts
Abe the groom, he starts crying. And I'm not saying like but I
had I kind of got a perspectiveof like, Okay, maybe this wasn't

(46:00):
like a like a thing. Itwas like a laughs and judgment of them,
on the both of them. Idefinitely don't think it was like an
affairs like where it's been going onfor a lot of times, but I
don't know. It's still like, your poor sister is none the wiser.

(46:22):
She's like getting married to this guyand he did something shady behind her back
with her sister. I don't know, it's just it's weird, Like I'm
not thinking that like they're gonna doit again or whatever, but it is
like a they got away with ittype of thing, and she kind of

(46:43):
looks stupid. But see, Iknow you so well. Tell me that
that's a that's not shitty, Likethat's shitty. It is. It is
very shitty. Don't get me wrong, it's very shitty. It is one
of those things where if I,if I weren't Sarah's position, if I
don't say something, I will literallycombust into like flames. Is that what

(47:07):
you do when you busted? Yeah? Yeah, But so it is very
shitty. I it's like I agree. I That's the thing. It's so
hard because I agree with you.I don't like being a neighbor. Sometimes
I agree with you, but thenI'm also seeing it from the side of
okay, like, oh my god, that sounds so shitty as I even

(47:29):
think of it. My whole thingis like I don't I don't know how
I would be able to act normallywith my sister. No, that's what
I'm Yeah, I'm with you onehundred percent on that, because I wouldn't
be able to be okay and benormal. Yeah. And and him,

(47:51):
I mean, he seems like he'sready to just move forward and seems I
don't get that. No, butI didn't get that from him, Pricilla.
Yes, I'm not disputing that hedidn't feel guilt because he had that
moment where he cried when she's like, we did a really bad thing and

(48:15):
it should have never happened, andhe immediately was like, oh my god,
what did I do. I'm likemy dad, my dad's a cheater.
Like he had like a whole yeah, you know, he had a
whole breakdown. But like, Idon't know, you can't really feel that

(48:36):
bad if you're like, let's getmarried and like he's happy and like dancing
and acting like nothing is wrong.I don't know I have. That's the
only flaw in the whole thing whereit's like, great, she wants to
change, she's growing, but alsolike she's not really owning up to Yeah,

(48:57):
the person that really should know thetruth about everything, but anyway,
whatever, I feel like I knowthe answer to this. But here's here's
one other way I can look atit too, Like would you want to
know the night the day of yourwedding or would you be okay finding out
later? Because I wonder if Sarahcould have done that and later been like,

(49:20):
hey, by the way, likethis happened, that sounds really fucked
up. I would rather know beforethe legal contract is done. Do you
want to know why I agree withyou? I don't want to look stupid,
right, well, look stupid exactly. Not let me yes, like
I'm going to go through this wholebeautiful wedding only for like a week later

(49:45):
to be like this was fake.I know, like like I just found
out something horrible. Yeah, Iwould. I would want to know before
taking those vows and look an idiot, Yeah, in front of everybody because
they all gonna find out eventually.Mm hmmmmmmm. Yeah, okay, I'll

(50:05):
give you that. I'll give youthat. I'll give you that because I
again, it's hard to disagree withthat because it's fundamentally like, oh,
that's icky. She didn't fully maybewrap it up with a bow. That's
and that's also like, remember whenwe did the episode on the wedding date,

(50:28):
and and she gets into a fightwith her sister because she's like,
you slept number one, you sleptwith my fiance, right, Yeah,
that they were, they were engaged. And then and then number two when
she like calls her sister out onit, the sister was like, I

(50:50):
was gonna tell him after the wedding, And the sister tells her, are
you kidding me? Like, nowhe's now he's married to you, and
you're gonna tell him something. You'regonna drop a bomb on him when he's
like stuck or whatever. You know, So that's well, when he's made
such a big commitment. And again, that's that's why I'm like, I

(51:13):
feel like I know the answer becauseit's like I've made a big commitment to
you without knowing, because you know, you commit to knowing that this person
is flawed. Well, I guessthat's an argument that could be made.
You commit to a person being flawedwhen you get married. I guess you
say you do, you do.Nobody's perfect, But like you cheated on

(51:37):
me with my sister the night beforewe got married. That's like, yeah,
that's wild. Yeah, that's that'sbetrayal on different levels. Truly.
I don't know why I'm trying tofind a different perspective to this, because
it is fucked up. I wouldbe angry. I would be like,
find me a fork, I'm gonnastick it through his cheek. Like I

(52:00):
hated that scene by the way.I know, I know, but I
know, I I'm I guess I'monly playing Devil's advocate, but I one
hundred percent agree it just it's shitty. It's shitty. But and I also
didn't love in her speech how shewas like, you know, my sister,
she's so hopeful and like kind,so kind of like put her in

(52:23):
this, in this trope of likeshe'll be okay with the fact that,
like me and her groom messed aroundthe night before because she's so kind,
so forgiving, so right right,so like she's she's such a good person,
she's better than us. Yeah, fuck Sarah man a man Now,

(52:45):
I like Nihil again. Do wewant to talk about rating this movie?
Yes, so let's get into it. We picked the moji of the goat
because the goat sacrificed thyself. FourWe don't we don't know where he went

(53:06):
well, now we know he wenton to live his next day. I
guess, well, actually because thegoat wasn't in the loop technically, no,
the the goat, the goat was. I think she brought him to
the cave, oh, put himin the loop and then tested it.
Yeah, okay, okay, thatmakes sense. Yeah, okay, Well

(53:30):
let me ask you, my friend, first one through five goat emojis,
what do you get this movie?Full five? I love that moviekay,
I do love that movie. Itwas so refreshing, like it was different,
you know, and everybody did agood job. You know what,

(53:51):
Actually, do you remember before likethe the wedding day, like the final
wedding day, before she goes tolike blow them up? Do you remember
the old woman that comes up toher and says, you know, well,
I guess you're you're gonna be leavingsoon or whatever? Grandma her grandma.

(54:16):
I think the grandma is in thetime loop. Fucking help, So
I meant it to I'm sorry,I have chills literally on my toes,
you know, the toes hair chillsright now. I meant to tell you
that, and I totally didn't writeit on my notes. The grandma was
in the loop. But I thinkshe was happy to be in the loop
at this point because she kept relivinga happy family day. Yeah, because

(54:40):
she makes a comment when they firstmeet, when Niles and Sarah first me
where she's like, I've been tomore weddings than you can count and Niles,
Niles kind of dismisses it and he'slike you you wouldn't you know,
you wouldn't believe me if I saidthe same thing, or like, he

(55:04):
makes a comment that's basically like tryme. And she makes that comment,
and then when she says goodbye toSarah at the end, it's like she
knows that Sarah figured it out andwas going to be leaving and that So
I'm sorry I should have mentioned thatbefore we started doing the ratings, but

(55:27):
I literally just remembered about the grandma. No. I forgot because I gagged
when it happened because I was like, wait, leaving us. This woman
is in the loop. But butmy theory is she is happy to be
there because she obviously doesn't have alot left in life. Oh that sounds
right, right, right? Noit you know, she wanted to keep

(55:47):
reliving a good day with her family. Yeah, but anyway, sorry for
the detoy. No. No.Five goats from love It, what about
you Love Love Love? I givethis movie five goats as well. And

(56:07):
I have two specific notes because numberone, I mean no, not number
one, it's in tro It wasa really good movie. The length of
it was perfection. I like,I wouldn't mind rewatching the movie if it
wasn't because of all the bows andarrows and the forks and whatnot. But
it was just a really straightforward goodmovie. I And you know what,

(56:34):
with movies like this, I feellike my logic always tries to get the
best of me, try to findholes. But in my opinion, this
was kind of was hard to findholes in because they thought of sort of
everything. I feel like even theroy Park was a big hole for me,
and you clarified it for me atthe end scenes. So I would

(56:54):
say, the only thing Niles notknowing what like how Niles ended up here?
Right? Yeah? But I'm assumingno, he probably went wondering the
night of the wedding and found thecave and Walts didn't. And I'm happy
with his life already. Yeah,I wonder, m I wonder if what

(57:15):
made him wander in the desert ishis girlfriend cheating on him and catching her
Like, I wonder if he knewthat the original night, or if that
was something he found out while hewas in the loop. But I wonder
if that's what made him wander andgo to the cave. I have a

(57:38):
feeling I'm gonna I'm gonna agree withyou and I want to go with that
story when he saw because he knewexactly what window to look into. When
he saw that, he wandered offto the desert ran into the magic cave.
Wow. No, great movie again, not a lot of holes.
Not you know, it leaves whatit leaves. The imagination isn't terrible,

(58:01):
like it's it makes sense. Wecan find a logical answer for my two
notes. It's the real word.World is scary but so good. And
I don't know why I kept feelingthat throughout the movie of like, like
it is scary, but it's likeit's good. We learn every even if

(58:22):
we had to repeat every day overand over, we will learn something out
of it. And then the otherone. This is my philosophical thing.
The every day, though mundane,it can open us, open us up
for new adventures if we just stayliked especially when you have some kick ass
friends to get through it and illoelat the end. That's how I was

(58:45):
feeling, So I thought it wasa great movie. Thank you for picking
this movie five out of five.I'm so happy you liked it. I
agree about the mundane things. It'sthe little things. It's the little things.
And yeah, life is scary andhard and can be painful, but

(59:07):
I would I would choose experiencing everythinglife has to offer, rather than stay
still and be scared of everything andremain small like any day, I would.

(59:27):
I would go through everything. Icould not agree more. Even even
when I'm crying, I'm like, yep, I'm feeling something. Look at
me. Yes, yes, absolutelyexactly, I agree. I agree.
