It's human.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Trying to fly from the yard the hard ash tune.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
From the hardest, trying to fly from the running hard ash,
trying to fly the hard ash funny.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Trying to fly the hard where the hard ask breeze

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Can I be ones now. I don't see why we

tell ourselves. I can't step taking from the poison wild
and it's doing my head and lack a bullet.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
Some some friend, no one life, solloli try.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Fall to your guys, no solo.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Again. That was still seeing. Their latest single, dream of Blood,
features Rory from day Seeker, a band that I enjoy
very much. From like the current landscape of metal core
and silver Seine, I've listened to so I was like thirteen,
I think, so it's been a few decades I've been
listening to that band. So it's super cool to see
them still insanely relevant and killing it and putting out
(05:18):
new music. It's amazing to see this kind of revitalization
of the early two thousands. It makes me feel like
I'm like a teenager again even though I'm in my thirties.
But I'm here for it. And of course, for more
US recommendations, you can check out the Milkrenerds pull the
Spotfy playlist. I update it anytime I hear a new
song I like Now. I like to kick off every
show with the now watching section, where basically we just
(05:41):
talk about what we've been watching recently, whether it's TV,
movies and theaters at home, new old, doesn't matter, anythings
for the table. I'll be saving a couple from mine
when we get into the summer movie list. But Rob,
what have you been watching lately? Yes?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
So Last of Us Season two?
Speaker 2 (05:59):
I'm watching. How'd you feel about it? Not all the
way through it, but okay, Yeah, it's it's stressful.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You know, you're like you're like rooting for different people
and they're just getting killed left and right, and you're like,
damn it.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I was like really liking you. But yeah, it's definitely
like crazy.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Because like we grew up on these like movies zombie apocalypse,
end of the World type.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Things, and they did a great job.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
But it's like, damn, like what if that actually happens?
Like it puts you in that mindset of like survival
and you're like, what the hell would I do? So
I'm really enjoying it, and it's got me kind of
mentally preparing just in case something like this does happened.
You know, hopefully not because you know, we got lots
of music and you know, lots of life.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
To live, shows to play. But yeah, it's been great
so far.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
I think I got two maybe three episodes left, excited
to finish it, and I'm sure there's gonna be season three.
They're probably working on it. Who knows, but pump to
kind of what happens in the finale.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
I'm interested to see how you feel when this season
ends and kind of sets up what season three is
going to be. Season three is going to be a
very interesting thing, I think overall, because the last season
two has been a wild ride. Because I've played the game.
I love the games. They're some of my favorite things.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Sick games, dude. That's why, like my guitarist Jeremy was like,
I haven't watched because I want to play the games first.
Everyone bringing the game or he's just like, I haven't
played it, and I'm like, dude, it's like probably when
we get back from recording.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
It's good stuff, and it's been It's been very interesting
to see kind of game players reacting to the series,
because it's been pretty i would say divisive between game
players general audience. I think people have mostly loved it
because they don't have any kind of preconceived notions about
what the story should be or no, for sure.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
I think, like with art, he kind of got to
take it because no, like for sure when I'm when
I was watching it, I was like, damn, you know
in the game it was little, but it's a different form,
it's a different expression of it, and it's like you
kind of got a all, right, games a separate thing.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
This is a separate thing, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
If you come up with that mindset, you'll be able
to enjoy it if you did play the game.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Because I really like it, I also really liked it too,
and obviously I played the game that's exact mentality I had.
I was like, this is a different thing. Obviously I
will I will look for the kind of nods and
things that were just like the game and everything. But
I learned to enjoy the differences mostly more and I
viewed it as two separate things in a way of
(08:39):
they both do things better than each other. And I
think that's like beautiful in a way that you can
have the same story, enjoy it in different formats, and
have it be told a little differently. You know.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
I think that's really you're kind of like when you
look at like books and stuff. People read books and
then the movies will come out. Book the book, but
like a book, you have your own imagination and there's
so much depth. So it's like hour long episodes like
a twenty hour plus video game, you know, and to complete,
(09:11):
like there's you know what I mean, and there's so
you're kind of creating your own like there's different things
happening because you're controlling the player.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
So yeah, you gotta guess just like take it for.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Like a different set of like this is a different
version of this. It's the best way to appreciate it
and like really enjoy.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
It because it is really good. I agree. I agree.
Is there anything else you've been watching other than least one's.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
About to finish Sopranos for the third time?
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I was gonna say first time or rewatch.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Girlfriend she never watched it, so she's obsessed with it.
She's like she's like Dreddie. We have like three episodes left,
and she's just dretti because like the it's just such
a it's the best show in my opinion ever, so
just watching it like it's hilarious, but it's awesome, like
the storyline and it's like, yeah, you find itfferent things
(10:00):
when you do watch it, you pay attention because I
mean there's so much more things going on, and it's
like I guess listening to a song they so you
got to listen to it multiple times to really fright.
And I think with like film or TV, people watch
it once and then they're done. But there's a way
of appreciating things more and kind of noticing small little
easter eggs or like you know, characters or the psychology
(10:24):
and certain things.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
So when you can watch it, you know, and then.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Like there's times I'm like, damn, I don't even remember
this happening. So it's like there's so much, there's so
much going on. So she has some promos as well. Yeah,
and my girlfriend threw you four you on as well
because she's like, oh the season, So like that's interesting
too because it's just like it's shot beautifully, the music's awesome,
and it's so much trauma.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
That's like one I haven't watched yet. I feel like
I'll get to it eventually, but I know it's like
the subject matter is not like easy.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Each other the characters, like they did a really good job.
There's a ton of emotion in it. So it's like,
I know the storyline of like high school, but it's
it's so much more in depth than that. Like the
characters really bring bring it out, and it has like
a star cast. I mean, Yep and Jacob already, Sidney
Sweeney like long List Hunter Schaeffer, Like it's like superstars.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
But before they were superstars, which is awesome, Like the.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Bands that like the album and then they blew up.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
You can feel it, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
There's like so much more in there instead of like,
oh yeah, we're rich and famous, like we're gonna come
in this a little more last.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, it's cool. I think. I think when Zendaya won
the Emmy, she was the youngest person to win a
Lead Actor Emmy. I'm pretty positive that's correct. Already. Yeah,
she's incredible. She's so so, so, so so good. Speaking
of like old timeless shows, I just finished watching Lost
the entire series.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Yeah, we just we just watched cast Away in hair.
We needed like a happy thing. We like went to
war on Tuesday and like recorded a bunch of songs.
They just like we were joking out because Alex, He's like,
looks like me, dude, because like the Castaway picture, were
like we gotta watch He's like, I'll stay up. And
we watched Castaway. We watched Castaway and it just we
(12:17):
were just sitting on the couch like bro and like
honestly wanting to cry. We're like, why are we so emotional?
It was like the saddest but he lost Wilson, Like I.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Know, sad, dude. He just loved that volleyball he did.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Like makes you want to appreciate like objects a little more,
you know, Yeah, I really love whatever. The kitchen knife, dude,
It's just a good kitchen knife, dude. It's been there.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
You can have a connection to anything, you know what
I mean, if if it has some sort of sent
them all value. So like I didn't watch Lost mostly.
I mean I didn't watch what was coming out obviously,
but I never watched it because I remember so many
people hating the ending and just eventually I in between
like current shows I've been watching, I just started it.
(13:08):
It's all on Netflix, so I was just like, I'm
just gonna put this on and I have nothing to watch.
I usually put something on while I'm working all day too,
so it's like I was like, Okay, I'm just gonna
do it. I'm a big Damon Lindelof fan. I love
The Leftovers, I love Watchmen, so I was like, I
feel like I need to watch this. Dame Lindelow is
one of the creators and writers of the series. Brian K.
(13:31):
Vaughan was a writer on it who is one of
my favorite like comic book writers who turned into a
TV writer. So I was like, I just gotta do it.
I just gotta watch it and then I'll make my
own opinion on the show. And what a crazy ride
that was going through the entirety of that series, and
I truly think it is one of the best TV
shows ever made. I think it's the best network TV
(13:53):
show ever made, hands down, because that's what they were saying.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Jeremy and Allens are sitting as we're watching. I haven't
seen it, but you're kind of inspiring me to see.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
It along with them.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
They're like, it's just so damn good. So like it is,
I got a new show now, which is which is
killer even though it came out.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
A while ago.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
But like that's the beauty of film.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Like, it's always there, you know what I mean, It's
always there. It's always there. And it took me months
to get through it because it's six seasons and the
shortest season is like fifteen episodes, and they're our length
TV shows, so they're like forty five minutes long because
they were shown in an hour block TV with commercials,
you know, when it was on TV. I will say
I'm so glad I binged it because I think I
(14:34):
would have gone mentally insane trying to watch this weeks
week because yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Back in the day, no, you gotta wait, you get
You're like, what do you mean we.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Get to wait a week a week to see what happens?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah, that's really gets you.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
They always get you at the end. Always Yeah I
need to know. I need to know, dude. Yes, And
pretty much almost every ending scene of every episode is
like wait, wait, wait what. But I also so lived
through the time where I watched Severance when season one
came out, and I waited three years after the crazy
cliffhanger they left on season one, So I'm like, I
guess I could. I would have been fine, but I
(15:10):
was just like, man, I cannot imagine being part of
that zeitgeist of the weekly Lost Watchers, and also anyone
who hates the ending, I think you just like I'm
trying not to be that guy about it, but I
truly think you misunderstood what the ending was saying, because
I've seen people like talk about it and they're like,
and I don't even want to say it to you
(15:30):
to like put it in your mind to think about
it when you if you do, rewatch it, because I
kind of forgot as I was watching what people said
about it, and I was like, I'm glad I forgot,
and anytime I talked about it, I was like, don't
tell me anything about the ending. I don't remember what
people said about it. I want to just experience it
for myself. And then I remembered what people said as
I was watching the ending, and I was like, oh, yeah,
they totally didn't understand what was going on, Like that's
(15:53):
the beauty and art, you know, And I can see
why they would think that, but they like gloss over
what's said in the scenes that explains away of what
they're thinking, which is fine, that does happen and everything.
But I thought it was a beautiful, incredible finale, super
fitting for the series as a whole, and like, truly
(16:16):
that series like Severns wouldn't exist. I don't think without Lost,
like shows like that, like I don't think they would
be a thing because they kind of like coined the
Mystery Box without I don't know, like, And the thing is,
the Mystery Box isn't even the central plot of the story.
I mean, it does drive everything forward, and everything the
(16:38):
mystery of the island, and there's a million other mysteries
that happened throughout throughout the series. But the real thing
is about the characters. Like the most beautiful thing about
the show is seeing this insane, massive ensemble and almost
all of them get these crazy character arcs throughout seasons
and that that's like, that was the coolest part of it.
(16:59):
And that's really the point of the show is to
like show these characters from point A to point B
and how their lives are all intertwined together and stuff
like that. So what a wild, beautiful, amazing, weird show.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
It all the great shows now that all the great
shows have that an episode you.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Know ca or you get to really know the person.
So yeah, definitely killer And almost every episode, I mean
every episode does have some sort of flash something like
a lot of them have flashbacks that show them like
before the accident, and it gives you more insight into
their character and everything like that. Like it's truly wild.
Like even I think about it, I'm like, oh, yeah,
(17:41):
Arrow probably got that from Lost, because almost the first
three seasons all had flashbacks intertwined. And I'm like, this
show is so revolutionary for what it did. Other than
that I have been I watched this this new series
for Apple to v Plus. It's called Smoke. It stars
Taron Edgerton and and a Journey Smell at Bell and
(18:02):
and also John Wu's Amazon in it too, which is cool,
and it's it's based on a podcast, I guess, which
is pretty fucking wild. And it's this ternation replays this
like lead arson investigator that goes and kind of investigates fires.
And then Journey Smell's character comes in because she's I
(18:23):
think she's like a detective, and somehow she gets put
into this case of there's like these two ongoing arsonists
that are creating these two different types of fires, and
then you kind of see them investigate it. But there's
some wild twists and turns in this one super wild.
I mean, if you've listened to this podcast, you know
(18:44):
I've sung the praises of Apple TV Plus. I think
I think it's one of, or if not the best
streamer out there. It's terms in terms of quality, at
least for TV shows. Their original movies have been very
mostly miss but as far as TV shows that they
have some of the best out there. Like I just
talked about sevens and just what a crazy and I
(19:06):
just firmly believe that Taron Edgerton belongs on TV. I
don't know. I love him as an actor and he's
been in some awesome movies, but what he gets to
do in TV, I think is truly special. If you
haven't watched Blackbird, he was nominated for a ton of
awards for it. That was also an Apple TV Plus
a show. He's incredible in that too. Paulitzer Housers and
(19:28):
that he won the Emmy for that, I believe, or
Golden Clube one of the two he won awards for it.
But yeah, this smoke show is crazy.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Yeah, it's interesting when you get the big time, you know, actors, actresses,
where they they come into TV, it's like they're passionate
about it. If they're passionate about like what you know
what I mean, there's more like a different than into
like sometimes they become the characters so well and you're like, whoa,
(19:58):
this is sick And it's super to see the big picture,
you know, stars in you know TV, because you get
more than just two hours of them, you get right, no,
whole couple of seasons sometimes.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
And the way it ends to like, like I said,
there's kind of like these interesting twists throughout, but the
way it ends I had I did not see it coming.
I was it was some much like what no way,
And apparently there's plans for future seasons. Obviously it hasn't
even come out. It comes out the twenty eighth, but
(20:29):
I saw an interview because it ends pretty like concrete
in a way where like, oh, if it was only
a limited series, the story's told, that's fine, But apparently
there's more to this to the story because I haven't
even investigated the podcast part of it, and I kind
of want you now to kind of just see how
it was all laid out, mostly because I just wanted
to enjoy the show for what it was before I
(20:51):
did any research on it. But I'm interested to see
like where the story goes past where it ends, and
if you do watch it and see I think you'll
feel the same way I was. I was like, I
literally just thought it was a limited series, and then
I saw someone all like the press interviews started coming out,
and then they were talking about like, oh yeah, there's
play like if we end up doing what we're playing, like,
things get pretty crazy. I was like, oh, whoa, Okay, cool,
(21:14):
that's always.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
The beauty, Like you think it's over more, that's always
the best feeling.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
So I'm here for more of that. So I'm excited
to see how people react to that series in general
and where it could go possibly. I'm sure it's gonna
probably be a pretty big hit. Arn Adgerson is obviously
a big name, and Apple TV is on the rise,
you know. Separate Season two I think brought in so
many new people, and I think it's only going to
continue to grow from there. But let's let's talk about
(21:45):
some movies. I mean, we're kind of already deep into
the summer movie season, but we're kind of at the
point where things are starting to really ramp up. So
I'm gonna start with some movies that already came out.
They came out. They came out last week. At the
time of recording, this kind of be like a week
and a half or time this comes out, it'll be
like a week and a half ago. But last week
The Materialist came out How to Train Your Dragon, the
(22:05):
live action version came out, and The Life of Chuck
came out. I saw How to Train Your Dragon really good.
I had not seen the animated animated movie, so I
had nothing to compare it to while I was watching it.
I do want to go back and watch them now.
I know the second live action movies already Green Lent.
And the thing that's cool about this live action remake
because like a lot of people were like, oh, why
(22:27):
do we need this, blah blah blah, the director and
writer of the animated movies is doing the live action
movies too, which has never been done before, like all
these Disney remakes and everything like that, Like no one
has ever gone from doing the animated movie to doing
the live action movie. So I think that's really cool.
A Gerard Butler, who voiced his character in the movie,
(22:48):
playing his character in the live action movie Chan, which
he is awesome in this movie. After him doing like
all these action movies for which seems like forever to
see kind of do a role like this in live
action where he's so like stoic but vulnerable in a way.
(23:08):
It's a really good movie. It makes me again, it
makes me really want to watch the animated movie. So
I've heard nothing but great things about the animated movies
in general. But solid, solid movie. I'm pretty sure it's
doing insanely well. And I know they already are working
on the second one, so and I'm sure the third
one will happen too. And I know a lot of
(23:28):
people have said that this is very close to the
animated one. They've they did a few changes, but mostly
it's like shot for shot, they just remade it in
live action. This cgi looks unreal. The dragons look amazing.
But I know the director and writer talked about how
when they go into the second movie there's a bunch
of stuff he wants to change, which it kind of
(23:48):
goes back to like the Last of Us talk or
even like Invincible with Robert Kirkman, of how they created
this one medium, they're bringing in to a different medium
and they get to kind of do things maybe they
want to do differently or in hindsight they're like, oh yeah,
I kind of wish it did that definitely, now they
have this kind of chance to do that. So I'm
excited to see more of this. I'm excited to check
out the animated movies. The other two, The Materialists and
(24:11):
Life of Chuck. They've like two of my most into
his many movies this summer. The Life Chuck is based
on a short story by Stephen King. Mike Flanagan wrote
and directed. The movie stars Tom Hitdlson, Chew Hotel, Edgy
of Four, Karen Gillan. The cast is Matthew Lillard's in it,
cass Is Stacked. I'm hopefully going to see it, probably
sometime this week. But the short story I've read, it's
(24:33):
utterly beautiful. I know Stephen King's known for thriller horror, obviously,
but this one's more about like humanity and life, and
it's like a very extensionist type of story. So that's
why I've been so excited to see this movie. And
it premiered at Tiff like a year ago and people
have already said things about it, so and obviously it's
(24:54):
been out for like a week two so super starked
to see that one and the Materials is an eight
twenty four movie stars Patri Pascal, Chris Evans to Cody Johnson,
written and directed by Sleen Song. Her first movie, Past
Lives was OSCAR nominated, and she just tells amazing human stories.
And I know this movie's kind of been kind of
(25:14):
been marketed as a rom com. But the last time
A twenty four marketed a rom com, it was We
Live in Time. That was not rob com. That movie
was debilitatingly heartbreaking, and knowing what Past Lives is, I
feel like it's not gonna be, you know, as happy
and funny as most rom coms we probably grew up
(25:36):
listening to or watching. So I'm super excited to that one.
The summer of Patri Pascal is in full effect. We'll
be talking about Patro Bscal a few times. But out
of these three movies, are you excited to see any
of them? Do you plan seeing any of them? Or
do none of them interest you?
Speaker 3 (25:50):
What I'm stoked about. There's two movies in particular. Been
real busy, you know, making the album and songs, every
content driven world and just getting everything ready. But my
favorite movie is a kid ever like obsessed with was
happy gilmore so, the second one's coming out, and I know,
like people are kind of pissed off, you know, because
(26:12):
the first one was just creamy, the Crop classic, amazing,
everything about it hilarious. Like, honestly love that movie more
than anything. So I'm excited to see how.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
It is, just because like I love the first one
so much, so right, like, yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
I don't care if it's bad. I'm just excited to
see Adam Sandler. You know, I grew up he grew
up with, Like I've watched so many movies of his,
Like i grew up watching Adam Sandler movies.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
All right, yeah, like most of us, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
So pumped on that. That's gonna be exciting. You know,
there's some golf stars in it, and it's I think
it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
And then another one. I'm pumped to see his F
one with Brad Pitts come on next week.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
F One's super cool. Fascinated by just the whole entire
sportt all the money and the teams and like, you know,
there's so much different things going into it, like the
car bills and the drivers and the emotion and the
you know, people think, you know, you're just driving, like
how they have to prepare their self, the mental and
(27:14):
you know, psychological like it's it's really interesting. And Brad
Pitt playing that role super cool because Brad Pitch just
freaking Brad Pitt. He's a unit like he's everything he does,
he comes in, he's he's got it. So him in
that role, and I mean, I think it's gonna be
super killer. And I seen Lewis Hamilton, you know, and
talked about, you know how he's so excited for it,
(27:35):
and you know F One's you know, really backing it.
So I'm excited to see that. Definitely gonna hit the theaters.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Yeah, I think the F one in the movie title
is trademarked, so I'm pretty sure F one was highly
involved in the making of the movie, which is cool.
I mean, if you're gonna make a movie about that,
you want that, you know, you want that involvement. I
know nothing about F one other than obviously it's racing,
but I know it's like a massive like, yeah, it's
(28:02):
a phenomenon.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Definitely they're behind it. It's gotta be dang good because
it's like, you know, they have a whole entire massive
global thing. So yeah, I'm excited to chuck that one up.
I think it's gonna be awesome. And it was pumped
Brad Pitt.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Yeah, and the director of that movie is Join Kaczinski.
He did Top Gun Maverick and people are pretty much
saying like, this is top Gun Maverick in a car, which.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Maverick was freaking amazing, so amazing, Like dudes were walking
around with the top Gun Stash like strictly for that.
That started a whole trend of you know, bro top
gun stash one thousand percent, I'm not kidding aywhere I
try to be like top gun stand top and Stash,
topu and Stash.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
I remember that, right, am I crazy? In fact, that
was definitely a thing for sure, one hundred percent. I
will watch Brad Pitt and anything, but to see Brad
Pitt have a role like this where it seems like
he's really gonna be able to like sink his teeth
into something, I can't wait. I'm so amped for that movie.
And yeah, people calling it top Gum American Cars is
(29:08):
like the best compliment I think people could give it.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
I'm like, yeah, that's that's a bit, that's a lot
to live up to. But I mean, if if it
is that good, I'm like, you.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Know, people have been saying it's very very good, that
that's what I've seen, so I'm I'm I'm very starting
to check that out. By the time this comes out,
a legacy sequel will be in theaters that I know
most a lot of people are anticipating. I saw it
a few days ago, twenty eight years later, Danny Boyle
and Alex Scarland returning to their franchise almost thirty years later,
(29:42):
which is crazy, And it's so wild because there's a
lot of legacy sequels out there now, like Top Gum
Everica is one of them, and a lot of them
are kind of predicated in some form of nostalgia with them,
which is fine. You can use nostalgia in a smart,
good way where it doesn't feel cheesy and gross and
(30:03):
kind of like a money grab, and there's been examples
of that as well for sure, especially in recent years.
But twenty years later does a thing where you don't
even need to have watched any of the other movies
at all. You can go into this totally fresh, not
be lost at all. The only thing I think that
you would have a leg up on people with watching
(30:23):
it is there is some very subtle references or kind
of like callbacks Easter eggs type things, but they're not
like crazy cameos or obvert kind of things. They are
very layered in there, which is really cool. But yeah,
the only thing other than that that you'ld have, other
(30:44):
than catching those references, is kind of knowing what the
world is, knowing about the infected and knowing about how
it's affected Europe, or at least what they've shown in
the other movies. And that's what's cool about the other movies.
It kind of just shows you, like like a little
slice of what's going on in this world, and that's
what this does as well. It's a whole new batch
of characters, a whole new section of Europe. You kind
(31:06):
of find out what's been going on in the last
thirty years sort of they kind of tell you again.
And that's the thing I love about this movie is
that they don't hand feed you anything. All the information
they give you and all the new lore is kind
of just sprinkled in and I like that about it.
And the story subverts so many expectations, at least for
(31:28):
me and most critics press, people have mostly loved it
from what I saw all Like the review embargo went
up yesterday, and at first I was talking to a
guy and he seemed mixed on it, And then when
all the reactions started coming out, like pretty much most
of them were very positive, calling it the horror movie
of the year, and I feel like that's kind of crazy,
(31:50):
especially when like Sinners came out, and it's been a
very good year for horror just overall, Like there's been
a ton of like really really good horror movies this year,
and so far as my favorite movie of the year.
All haven't seen Centers. I need to watch it. I
just have not watched it. I just gotta watch it.
But twenty years later is pretty phenomenal. He filmed twenty
eight days later with like this small camcorder. It was
(32:13):
like all digital, and it kind of changed the landscape
of like how some horror movies were like filmed back
in the two thousands, and this one uses a bunch
of like rigs with iPhones, and some of them were
so that that the rigs were much smaller and they
could get it into areas usually can't get in with
normal cameras. And there's also this one you can see online.
(32:36):
It's this crazy like curved structure and it has tons
of iPhones mounted and when you watch the movie you'll
see how it's used and it's so fucking cool. There's
so many like I feel like it's so hard in
a day and age where it's like film has been
a thing for so long and not many things feel
(32:57):
like fresh or inventive or new feeling. But the way
this movie is like shot feels so new, and I
feel like a lot of I think it's going to
do what it's precessor did thirty years ago. I feel
like a lot of horror movies or maybe even action
movies might take some things that this movie did and
(33:19):
implement it going forward. And it's just like the more
I think about it, because I went, I brought my
friend to this press screening, who is like twenty eight
days later, it is like a fair movie of all time,
And we had a long drive home from it, so
we just like talked about the two hours after and
the more we talked about it and the more we
(33:40):
like tried to dissect it, like the more we kind
of fell in love with it. And I think that's
like the best thing about movies and TV. There's a
few like nitpicks I have, and it's kind of just
visual things. I think, like a few visual things kind
of feel not like they feel a lot of place,
and that's just me niitpicking, to be honest. The ending
is one of the most insane endings I've ever seen
(34:04):
for a movie. It's so badshit, crazy, out of nowhere.
And the reactor to that has actually been mostly positive,
but I can see people going either way on it
because it is so out of pocket, like the most
out of pocket. So interested to see as more people
watching it, what more people think about it? Have you
watched any of those movies before twenty days later, twenty
weeks later. Yeah, they seem insane, you know.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
Just the way you're describing them definitely makes me want to,
you know, go home after we get out of here
and just like watch.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Things and dive into that world of art. You know,
you get locked in the studio and for days you
kind of.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Want you don't want to stop creating or you know,
seeing visions and worlds and things like that, because like
once you leave the serotomins like god life, you know,
so it's like then you can oh, a whole new world.
So it's fun being able to create a world and
then watch a world that got created.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Yeah, and it's it's it's they're like zombies, but it's
more like The Last of Us where they're called infected.
It's so funny because I feel like both franchises have
affected each other because I know Alex Garland. The writers
talked with Neil Truckman and they talked about how they
both have kind of influenced each other, which is really
cool to see because they are very different. It is
(35:18):
similar in a way where they're not undead people like zombies.
They are infected people and they become infected and it
kind of takes over, you know, Europe at least is
what they have said this world. But the way it
gets infected is so fast. It's way faster than like
(35:39):
the Last of Us. And it's just it's kind of
just like a viral infection. It gets passed by blood
or saliva, but pretty much if you get in contact
with it, it's like instant boom, you're turning, and as
soon as you turn, they like puke blood. It's like
so gnarly and gross, but it's like the way it
tries to spread. Infection is so terrifying. It's like way
(36:00):
more than you know, like you need to get like
bit or something like that. And the Last of Us
like this. It's like in the first movie, a character,
like a drop of blood goes in someone's eye and
that's game over. He's done. Like that's how easily you
get infected. It's it's absurd and so in scary. And
there's a scene in the new movie where they kind
(36:21):
of highlight how like scary it is to get infected
and like how they wipe away blood and stuff like that.
How it can just be that easy, you know. So
it's it's really cool. I think you really enjoy it
because it's not your typical zombie movie at all. It's
it's like the first one especially, is like very cerebral
and very like a story of just about this guy
and him experiencing this apocalypse and stuff. It's it's good stuff. Terrifying, Oh,
(36:46):
utterly terrifying. Also that comes out that this weekend is
le e Oh, it's a new Pixar movie. Basically, this
kid he feels like left out on Earth and then
he's trying to communicate with aliens and somehow he does
communicate with and gets thrown out to space and it
becomes this weird intergalactic journey. It looks pretty cute in
the in the I mean, Pixar kind of does no
(37:07):
wrong in my eyes.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
You know that they always they've always, they've always you know,
done it forever and done it right. I mean, yeah,
massive movies, like as an adult, you know, going back
watching you know, the older stuff like the pokemonesses and
stuff like, they're just like, wow, this was like so
beautifully done. I understand why I loved it so much
as a kid.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Right, And they always have a way over you know
where it's like, oh yeah, it's like a kid cartoon.
But then the message behind it is like extremely profound
and like really well done. And so I can't I
can never count out a Pixar movie ever. I know,
it's like the tracking on it is pretty low and
it's probably not going to do that well, which is
sad because the reviews are pretty positive. So I'm like, bummer, yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Stuff though, sometimes things, you know, the universe is out
of lags, so sometimes true comes out there and then
word of mouth or people discover it or you know,
like all the time and just you know art and
pop culture and film, so you never know for sure,
it could be like come out and everyone's like a
couple of years from now, you know, it could be
(38:11):
like the Netflix number one you know movie and people
everyone's watching it.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
You never know. The good thing with Disney Plus is
that like once it hit Disney Plus, I'm sure it'll
have like a big boom, you know, as far as that,
So at least love that. I want to get to
July because we talked about F one, which comes out
in the end of June, June twenty seventh. July is
the big month, the big month of movies. We got
Jurassic World Rebirth July second. We got Superman July eleventh.
(38:36):
We got Fantastic Four July twenty fifth. Also, Happy Gilmar
two comes out on Netflix on July twenty fifth as well.
We got Eddington, the new ari Astra movie coming out
July eighteenth, and we have a I know you did
last Summer reboot happening July eighteenth as well.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Yeah, that'll that'll be interesting, it will be interesting, it'll
be fun. Those are all that first fun, so it it'll.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Be rewatch those for sure. Yet to just kind of
get well, let's see what's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
You're gonna watch those again. Yeah, that's that's exciting, and
I mean, obviously I can't wait to see it.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
But the big three are Dress World, Superman, Fantastic Four.
Those those the big blockbusters.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Of the Superman Superman always crushes, Superman's always like just
freaking Superman, and Fantastic obviously Classic.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
It's crazy because it's seeing these two kind of like
pillars of each brand coming out in the same month,
and it kind of feels like it's like a new
start for not a new start, but you know one
it is a new start for DC, and Fantastic Four
just feels like so fresh in the world of the
MCU that's been going for, you know, since two thousand
and eight. Superman, though, I feel like it's such an
(39:50):
important movie to come out now with everything that's going on,
because like a lot of people have kind of missed
the point of like Superman's an immigrant story, like it
just we can use Superman right now. We could we
could use a movie that's just predicated on hope and
wanting to help people, Like we could beat that so bad. Yeah,
one we need to bring you out the.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Good, the good vibes back, the happy we're all here,
we got each other, you know exactly.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
I'm with you one hundred percent, And that's why I'm
hoping it does. And I know pre sales have been
very high for it, and I just think James gun
is a remarkable storyteller, especially in the comic book, Medium, Guardians, movies, Peacemaker,
Suicide Squad. Like everything he's done I think has been great.
And I feel like we're seeing a new side of
(40:40):
him in this movie, because again, it's you know, he's
kind of known for that, like raunchy humor, kind of
taking the misfit of toys and bringing them together into
some sort of found family, and I feel like this
is a very different beast to tackle in Superman. And
but every trailer I've seen, as they've gone, I'm like,
this movie looks better than I even thought it was
gonna be. And that's exciting. I'm so so excited to
(41:03):
see it, say a fantastic four. I just think, my, my, my.
I don't know if it's even a hot take, but
I think Superman's gonna be the better movie of the two.
And I'm excited for Adansk four, like I love Petro Pascal,
I love Joseph quinn Evan boss backrack, you know from
the Bear and or playing Ben Graham is like the
most inspired casting I've seen in a long long time.
(41:24):
And like seeing this crazy alternate universe nineteen sixties retrofuturistic
New York is super dope. And seeing Glactus done is
comic eccric as fuck is awesome, and I can't wait
to see Glack just not be a cloud. That's great.
So stoked for that, and you know it's adding more
(41:46):
into this leading to these Avengers movies, Like Thunderbolts had
a nice segue into the Avengers movies. The New Captain
America did as well, so it's like we're in like
full speed ahead to these movies. So I'm excited to
see how that ties into that as well well. And
Jurassic World looks cool too. I'm gonna be honest, I
have not seen the last two, and I know this
is like a new start, but Gareth Edwards is a
(42:07):
great directory did Godzilla. He did the Creator, and I
didn't love the Creator, but visually it looked incredible, so
and the trailers for this look good. And I've heard
it's kind of like more weird, more kind of adding
into the horror, which you know, like the first Rascic
Park was very much steeped in that. So I'm excited
to see what kind of I'm just excited to watch
(42:28):
some weird dinosaurs do some shit for a few hours
in that one at the very least. Yeah, So you know,
I'm excited for all those three and then Eddington and
another Patro Pascal movie. Again. I told your summer Patri
Pascal he'ss everywhere he talked about the last best two.
Dude is everywhere. It's definitely he's definitely his time, you know.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
Yeah, like he's kind of the guy, which I think
he's incredible, great, so I'm here for it. Phenomenal like
his mountains and you just really feel his character, like
like I said in the last like rooting Frohm, and
he's just you know, you're like he's doing things that
You're like, he's a good guy.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
He's a good guy. Like he can do that, he's
a good guy.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
He's just you know, trying to protect himself, make sure
he's good.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
And then Eddington only watched the first trailer. I know,
it's kind of a COVID movie. And ari Astor I
have such a weird relationship with because he obviously did Hereditary,
which I think is like one of the best modern
horror movies made. But then Midsummer I was like, I
didn't really love that movie, and be honest, I think
it's well made and well acted, but as far as
(43:32):
what the movie tells you, I didn't love it. And
I haven't seen Bo's Afraid, which I know kind of
started this new Woking Phoenix Ariaster symbiotic relationship because Walking
Phoenix is also in Eddington as well. But again, Patri
Bascal's in it, and I'm always gonna give Arister a
chance because at the very least I know he's going
to make an interesting movie. So excited to see where
(43:55):
that goes. At the end of July there's a Neon
movie called Together, and I know it's like a it's
like a body horror movie with Alison Bree and Dave
Franco looks super fucked up. So excited to see where
that goes. Have you heard about this at all? Together? No?
Speaker 3 (44:14):
I haven't, but it was Dave Franco's I like Dave
Franco he's Yeah, Dave Franco's he's definitely good too. He's
just and he's funny too, you know, So he's like
could be serious, but he's also funny. Like he has
this like nonchalantness to him for sure, you know what
I mean. He just reminds you of like kind of
like sometimes like your idiot friend who says things that
(44:35):
you're like, just say.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
That, dude, you know. Any Yeah, so anything with Dave
Franco is usually pretty good. Yeah. Also on the Horror Train,
August eighth, Weapons comes out. It's the same Ratio director
as Barbarian that came out a few years ago, and
I loved Barbarian, such a wild, weird movie, and it
had a cabin in the Woods kind of effect where
(44:57):
it's it's it's like one movie for half of the movie,
and then the second half is a completely different movie.
And that can go one or two ways. That can
be terrible or awful. And I know the plot of
Weapons is that at like two seventeen in the morning,
this one day, all the kids in this town just
disappear and you don't know why, you don't know how,
(45:19):
And the story kind of follows that and the script
for this movie was so coveted. There was like a
bidding war for it. And I know Jordan Peel because
he has like a deal with Universal and he was
trying to buy it so that like his production company
and Universal would put it would be the ones to
put it out. And when they lost the bid, he
(45:42):
fired his manager. Tough.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
So I can only imagine this movie. Yeah, exactly. I
listened to that has been perfect so much like yeah,
psychological side of it and like emotion and cryptic and
keeps you so Peel Appeel's top notch. So yeah, when
(46:05):
I heard that story, I was like, Wow, this movie
has to be incredible. That he was upset that he
lost this movie, that he fired his manager. Wow, So
that one I'm super super super excited for. There's some
like you know, like Freak Your Fridays coming out.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Yeah, that'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
That'll be a fun you know, fun when you throw
in the background and you're you know, that'll be good.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
Yeah. I'm sure it's gonna make a lot of money.
I know Disney is putting them in the theaters. I
feel like they're they're at least hoping probably that's gonna
be a big ticket item for them. It becames on
the same weekend as Weapons. Obviously two very different, you know,
just something to just be like, yeah, fun, no no stakes,
just a fun time at the movies or if you wait,
(46:52):
a fun time at home watching on Disney.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
Plus, you know, with popcorn and snacks half the price.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
Yeah, maybe more than half. Actually, you're right, you know,
they're pretty brazy. They are pretty prisy. And then the
kind of the last movie I want to talk about
August twenty ninth. This movie Caught Stealings coming out. Darren
Ronofsky's doing It stars Matt Smith, awesome butler, Zoie Kravis,
and I watched the trailer for it. Darren Aron ask you, like,
(47:19):
the last movie did was The Whale with Brenda Fraser. Obviously,
that one a ton of awards, super emotional human story.
This one seems kind of like a Guy Ritchie movie
in the In the that's a compliment for sure, because
it seems like super fast paced, almost like action oriented.
And Matt Smith plays this like punk duty as a
mohawk and wearing aleather vest and everything. He looks like
he's like straight out of like a nineties like punk
(47:42):
music video. It's pretty dope.
Speaker 3 (47:44):
We need more rock culture, just like just more rock
culture and movies like there just needs to be like
the Alli psychs looking people, you know, just like as
the leads ready to just kick your door down and
you know, save the day.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Because I feel like anyone who's like heavily tattooed in
TV and movies is usually represented so oddly.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
They always the freaking criminal or something. It's stupid, you know,
they don't ever make them like the you know, hero
or something.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
Usually it stays Yeah, I think like the one thing,
I can realize that there's a show called Younger that
Hillary Duff is in, and like one of the love
interests of Hillary Duff is the main character, but she's
a very big supporting character. But one of the love
interests of the main character is a tattoo artist and
he's pret tattooed and he's seemed as like a good guy.
But even then, like, I just feel like tattoo culture
(48:40):
in media is represented so corny, and.
Speaker 3 (48:43):
I feel like Pete Davis needs to be you know,
so Pete could be this massive star just like no
more tests, you know, it's rid of Like.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
I feel like we need to make like a board
of Tattoo alternative lifestyle like consultants to like go to
these people and be like like, this isn't how people
like this act. Can we just like help you out here?
Can we just can we do something to make this
work better? Like, come on, Rob, is there any other
movies you're stoked for the summer? Or did we cover
(49:13):
most of them? Cover most of them? Cover most of them.
Speaker 3 (49:16):
I'm just excited to get some music out, Get that
out so then I have some downtime.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
I've been in like my own world.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
I've been creating own whole entire world through sound visual.
So I'm excited to get that stuff out so that
I can kind of relax and tune into different worlds,
watch a lot more movies and you know, be at peace,
you know been you know, crazy manic state of creating
and grinding and be nice to be like worst done.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
You know we're gonna watch watch some good stuff. Hell yeah,
I love that. Thank you so much for sending down
talking to me, taking a little bit of time out
of your recording day.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
Yeah, we're heading. Actually, no, we gotta get a move
on it. We eleven o'clock start, so we twenty minute
drive so i'd.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
Like, boys, let's get out of here. We gotta go.
We're going. I came in from the gym.
Speaker 3 (50:06):
Toda'm like, we're going to war. Boys, We're going to war.
So thank you again for having me really appreciate it
and catch you soon.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
I ask you before we leave, let let let people
know where they can find you before you get out
of here. So dying in Designer.
Speaker 3 (50:25):
You know, all streaming services, dying in Designer, underscore on Instagram,
