Now I haven't done this in a few weeks, but
I like to do this mostly every week of the show,

(06:10):
where we talk about what myself and my guests have
currently been watching. Whether it's TV, movies streaming in the theaters,
new old, it doesn't matter, just what we've been watching,
so Zylo we've been watching lately.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
So some of the stuff I've been watching, I kind
of like, I got I got a little list here
because I had to really, I had to really think
about this because I'll go and watch stuff and not
forget that I watched it, but when someone asks me,
I think it's like my mind, it just all leaves me.
So I had to really think about this. So I
went and I saw No Sparratu over Christmas. Wonderful, fantastic,
have nothing but nice things to say about that film.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I love Roger active, Robert Eggers is great.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
I was super excited about that and did not disappoint.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
I actually have seen the original No Sparatu film with
like an organ player in like a real theater and stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
That was Yeah, that was.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Actually the first time I saw that movie. I saw
that whole experience super cool. So I was like, I
was obviously excited, uh for the new one, and uh, yeah,
I don't think of that that disappointed.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
I thought that was really good.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Sonic three gotta gotta you gotta go see Sonic three
because if you're if you're son.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
You haven't seen it yet.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Everyone says it's great. Everyone's so great.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
I you know, it's it's one of those things where like,
if you're a fan of the games, it's a giant
love letter to Sonic Adventure two in like kind of
all the best ways. And I think it elevates a
lot because of you can tell that there's a lot
of love and passion for that there.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
And I would even.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Say that this movie, uh, it has the least like
human live action dumb stuff. It really focuses on Sonic
Team and the characters and things like that. It plays
on the strengths a lot more than the other movies did.
I feel like that the other movies were a little
less confident than this one is. And I think that
that really that really kind of gives it a lot

(08:04):
of strength in this film and probably the reason why
a lot of people were like, this is the best film,
but overall, like, if I'm gonna be honest with you,
I still think it's like a seven and five maybe seven.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
You know, they're just good times. They're good times, Like
I just don't expect much more.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
And like walking out of that movie, I felt almost
as if the chatter was that it was gonna be
better than that, and then I walked I was like, no,
that's that's exactly what it was. But you know, there
was there's a real confidence this time, and I think
that that that definitely helps it a lot.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
They just announced Sonic four. I think it's twenty twenty
seven or.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Something, twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yeah, Oh well it was kind of It was was
a matter of time if if you saw the movie,
it was a matter of time before they were gonna
announce that.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah, I mean, and all these movies have crushed, so
it's like there's no way they're gonna if there's a
story left to tell, they're in a cute telling.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna take this in a
different direction, and I'm gona talk about a movie that
absolutely broke me Iron Cloth.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Have you seen that yet?

Speaker 1 (09:05):
I watched that a year ago. No, no, no, no,
I'm not.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yeah, I just watched it recently, and everybody told me
that that film was gonna was gonna break me, and
boy they were right. I was prepared and also not prepared.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah wow that.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Yeah, that movie had me thinking about life. And I
watched it late at night too, so you know, it
was one of those watch something you're just like, dude, like, yeah,
you're just like thinking, you know, you turn over to
your girlfriend, let say something like you.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Know, like I don't know, like I love you, they
you know, I just want to let you know I
appreciate you. It was one of those you know, that's
how fucking much. That got me.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
You, I know what's crazy about that movie. It's not
the real life story is actually more tragic.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
With the Yeah that's what I've heard. Yeah, that it's
even worse.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
There and it's it's yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
I think the big rumor out there was that it
what is it that they were like, oh, they didn't
want to add it because it'd be too much for people.
But then I saw another thing that one of the
producers or something said that it was like, well, the
narrative flow and stuff, and I'm like, yeah, the narrative
flow being we would have been crying more.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
So, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
I think the director came out and said he's like yeah,
He's like, I didn't think we needed to keep it in.
It was it was tragic enough.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
It was enough.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah. I will say I did something this year and
I rectified a big like movie, no, no, I guess
like if you say that you haven't seen this, everybody's like,
looks at you, weird. I finally watched the Lord of
the Rings trilogy.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Whoa, Okay, it's a big Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
I finally watched that this year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it
was kind of one of those things that like I
would you know, I'd turn it on all the time,
like Fellowship of the Ring and I and I and
I would turn it on and I'd get twenty minutes
in and I'd fall asleep, like almost like for years.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
It was like, you know, I knew that they were
good movies. Everybody's like, you know, there's nothing but nice
things to say, but I just it never happened. In
the one night, my girlfriend she's like, you're gonna sit down.
It's like eight pm, like it's just before bed, You're
gonna watch this. I got the extended it is blah
blah blah. And then I'm talking like six hours later.
I was done with the second movie. I started going
into the third, and then you know, yeah, so I

(11:07):
loved it.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
So it was it was good.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Very much enjoyed these That is good. I haven't rewatched
them in a minute, and I really want to. I
just haven't. I get very bad at like revisiting movies
I've watched already, especially in recent years. I I mean,
I have this podcast where I cover mostly recent things,
and I write for Collider, which I'm covering almost always

(11:31):
recent things, so it's it's always hard for me to
kind of look back and rewatch stuff unless there's I
don't know, unless it just kind of like hits my brain.
I'm like, I want to watch this right now, and
I put it out. But I am currently rewatching dar
Double the series, but that's in preparation for the continuation shots.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah, yeah, dude, I gotta I gotta watch that too.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
I started rewatching it and I fell off, But I
love that Netflix series so much, so I.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Might just do it just because because it's been a while.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
So yeah, probably forgotten perfect time to rewatch it to
rewatch that.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Yeah, I mean I imagine that, like with what you do,
it's kind of hard to go back and watch stuff
because you've probably got like a slate of all this
new stuff that you're.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Like, I just gotta get it to this always.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
So yeah, no, I totally imagine.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
As far as what I've been watching besides Daredevil, I
have seen all of Severance season two, which just debuted
with its second season after a three year break. This
show is if it keeps going the rate it's going,
it's gonna be one of the best series of all time.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Like, I gotta, I gotta get on it.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
So good, and season two only ups the ante in
the weirdness, the mysteries that especially the character development of
what's going on. I don't want to talk about too
much for anyone who hasn't watched Severance, but Severence becomes
a very big talking point on this podcast because every
like this now watching section is probably gonna be like

(12:52):
plagued by Severance, which I love is so it happened
last time and I'm predicting it's gonna happen again. But
it's just and it seems like it's got and so
much bigger leading up to the second season. I know
they've upped the marketing.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
That's an Apple TV show, right.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah, Apple TV? Yeah the best Yeah, which.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Is which is like hilarious because they're like notorious for
just not marketing and putting out like some of the
best television.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yes, I think they're trying to finally rectify that. I
think because yeah, they did this like crazy there. They
had the actors and they did a whole like pop
up marketing thing in grants that Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
I did see that.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Crazy That was that was interesting. In Ben Stiller, we trust,
all right. I really like Ben Stiller as a director
and writer.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah. Yeah, he is proving that he is a top
notch director with this series.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
It is.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Okay, I'm gonna have to watch it. You've convinced me.
I haven't seen any of it. I have no, I
don't really even know what it is.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
I'm going to give you the very minuscule premise of it.
So basically, Severance is this procedure that people in this
world can do where it completely separates your work life
in your home life. So basically, a chip gets like
surgically implanted in your brain, and when you go to work,
you only know your work life, and when you leave work,

(14:09):
you only know your life outside of work, and you
do not know what happens in either one. It's like
you're one person living two completely separate, separate lives. And
then you find out that the company that's doing this
there's a little bit more to them than you.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Just yeah, it's the eye. Okay, cool, that sounds cool.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
I like that. Yeah, It's amazing and so fucking weird.
And what does that.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Remind me of? Of? Like a remedy game? Have you
ever played like Alan wake Er Control or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I've heard I've heard about them one of my one
of my really good friends, Austin from the band Ghost Key,
swears by those games and loves them.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Great. Yeah, yeah, you are great. Off the watch Severance,
I'm down for something like that. That that's right up
my alley of stuff.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
I like, it's it's amazing. I recommend that show to
anyone who hasn't watched it. Basically, they're like, I haven't
watched it. I'm like, well, go watch it. Change that
change immediately.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
The new Age breaking Bad? Is that where we're witnessing
right now?

Speaker 1 (15:04):
I think so. Honestly, I think there's been a lot
of those lately, Like obviously we have like the Bear
Succession was a thing. Yeah, yeah, you know, there's been
these massive series that are acclaimed and amazing for their
own right. The Last of Us has like a very
big chance at getting there, especially with what's to come.
Other than that, I watched two movies that just came

(15:25):
on streaming. I watched A Real Pain, which stars Jesse
Eisenberg and Kieran Colchin. It's on Hulu right now if
you want to check it out. It was written and
directed by Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Colchin. Is the odds
on Favorite Twin for Best Supporting Actor for the Oscars.
He already won the Golden Globe.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
What is this movie.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
It's called A Real Pain, and it's basically two cousins
who they go to Poland because their grandmother just recently
died and she was a she was Jewish, grew up
in Poland, then obviously got out after We're War two
and immigrated to America. And in part of her will,

(16:05):
she like left money so they could go visit her
homeland together. And they go and they're part of this
tourist group. And I don't really want to say any
more than that because I didn't really know anything about
the movie and I just went and blind. But it's
a very human story. And if you're a fan of
Kurean Culkin, like what you saw he did in Succession,
which is incredible, I would just say just watch it
for that alone. It's a solid movie. And then I

(16:29):
watched it's on HBO Max right now. It's called A
Different Man. Stars Sebastian stan and he has in the
In the movie, he has this it's like a face
tumor desformity thing with his space. I don't know the
name of it, so forgive me, and then he does
this testing to get rid of it, because obviously, since
he looks different than what people will call a normal person,

(16:52):
his life is different and it's harder. So they his
doctors like recommend like, hey, there's this revolutionary treatment that
could help you get rid of it. And then eventually
he ends up looking from what he looks like to
looking like Sabashianstan so obviously a very attractive human being. Yeah,
and exactly, he kind of realizes that even though this

(17:15):
is what he's always wanted, it's not really everything he
always wanted, and it's a very just like interesting look
at like how we view things that we want and
how we treat people. It's like a really dope and
like special kind of movie. I it's not again, it's
not Max, Like, I just highly want to.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
See all those The Jesse Eisenberg one interests me because
I haven't heard of like him working in a bit,
at least not not He's just not been on my
radar in a bit, So that's cool that he has that.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
And then what is it now you see me three?
I don't know that's that's gonna happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
We're gonna shift.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
In the top ten mosticipated movies of the year, there
is a movie that I didn't put on my list,
but I actually actually am very excited for it, and
it includes The Rock. One of the Safti brothers is
directing it, Emily Blunt is in it, and The Rock
is actually it's an AY twenty four film. It's called
The Smashing Machine, and he's wearing like prosthetics in it,
and I feel like that can be finally a role
where everyone's like, oh, this is the rock we hoped

(18:16):
we were going to see when he first like kind
of broke into the acting scene, because the dude can
act like we absolutely act. Yeah, he just got stuck
in this like I'm the Rock. I'm only going to
do the rock type roles, and I'm hoping this is
what breaks them out of that and this is actually
something that's like can really surprise people.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
That's why I felt a much needed film for him.
If it turns out to be a big hit or
at least critically claimed. Yeah, yeah, same thing with like
zac Efron. After seeing Ironclaw, I'm.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Like, we need to put this guy in more movies, dude,
which is crazy because every movie he's done after has
been like a weirdo comedy kind of movie like he
always did before. And I was like, whoever his team is,
he needs to fucking fire them because he got robbed
of an Oscar nomination. And then his whole team was like, yeah,
go do all these fucking dumb ass movies. Actor.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Yeah, completely fucking rob dude, because wow, like increb Yeah,
I walked away like, yeah, man, that's a dedicated, like
really good actor. I always did believe zac Efron was
a good actor because I think he's done some good movies.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
He's done good stuff that wasn't comedies before this one.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
I don't I can't tell you what, but I feel
like I've seen him in some good stuff that wasn't
wasn't just you know, dude per frat comedies.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Which I do love and miss. I missed those those.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
We need more of those, like I need a Seth Throgan,
a zach Ephon, you know, buddy comedy again because I
was always fun.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
I liked those.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Yeah, I'm with you, I'm with you there one hundred percent. Yeah,
I'm gonna kick it off. Number ten. I have the
movie Sinners, which is Ryan Cooler's new movie. It's set
back and I think like the nineteen hundred and something
way back when, and stars Michael B. Jordan, Haley Steinfield,
and it's a Ryan movie, which I can't bet against

(20:02):
Ryan Googler.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
I am excited for everything that man does that isn't
necessarily a Black Panther. And by the way, I'm not
saying I don't like Black Panther. I'm just saying that
Fruitville Station like that was my introduction to Ryan Coogler,
and that movie was incredible to me, and I'm like,
I will watch anything that man does, so very excited
to see him outside of the MCU doing something.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
And it's it was, this is on my list, So
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Where did you have it on your list?

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I don't think I put an order to my list.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
I was.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
I don't like doing that, so I just kind of
like named some of my most anticipated Yeah that's.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Fair, but where where is it? Let's see where I
did put it. I put it number seven.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Okay, cool. Yeah, I am excited to see him because
it's been a minute since he's done something like not MCU,
and I love Black Panther too. I think both Black
Panther movies are incredible. It's funny because there's a lot
of rumors that this was actually his pitch for Blade
and they didn't want to do like a time period
piece with Blade.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Say Ryan Kugler was going to do Blade.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
It's not confirmed. Is a big rumor. There's been a
lot obviously, if you if you're in tune with the
nerves at all, there's been a lot of issues with Blade.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Yeah, there's been a ton and and I also heard
that Ryan Cougler pitched an x Men idea, and I
thought he would have been fucking fantastic.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
For x Men. I still think. I'm still not convinced
that he's not going to do x Men, because x
Men is going to be a minute. It's going to
be like post these next Avengers movies. If there's anybody
I would love you that, it would be him. Yeah,
my god, Yeah, I would die for Ryan Googler X
Men movie. That would be unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Yeah, I'm stoked on that, dude.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Yeah, yeah, say less give me that. If that's what happens,
I am so here for that. Because there was a
big rumor that they were eyeing him to take over
Secret Wars before the whole room for Brothers came back
and everything gotcha and even that, I would have been.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
Like that man anywhere, and I feel like you do
a pretty good job, you know. But yeah, but especially
stuff like yeah, like X Men and all that. Yeah,
because like I saw the X Men ninety seven and
I was like, who the hell did this? I'm like,
that's the guy we need to be running X Men
because that was fucking awesome and baba, and then I
found out.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
That guy is kind of yeah about him? Yeah, I
was like, okay, well I get it. Yeah, unfortunately he's
not the guy. Yeah, fortunately not.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Okay, So what did you have first on your list?

Speaker 3 (22:37):
I had Captain America, Brave New World.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
Okay, cool. I admittedly as big as the MCU fan
I have. I don't have this one on here, but
I am very excited for the trailers. Look good.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Captain America.

Speaker 4 (22:50):
I think it's the most solid trilogy in the MCU.
Like I think it's it's by far the most solid
trilogy in the MCU. I think it just gets better
with each filmy. Oh, yeah, there's Guardians. Yeah, there's Guardians.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Guardians is like they're fighting for top spot.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
Yeah, for sure, and I really liked how they passed
the Mantle on to Anthony Mackie for Captain America.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
And here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
I only put it on this list because I want
this movie to be great. I want this movie to
be on the same level as the other three movies,
and I that's my hope. I have not seen anything
that's come out about this film that indicates that, but
I really want it to be because I just feel
like it's the perfect It's all the perfect ingredients they

(23:35):
got him cooking here, and I feel Anthony Mackie could
fucking put on a powerhouse performance for Captain America if
keeping the right film and stuff.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Totally agreed. And Harrison Ford as Red Hulk, come on, yeah, yeah,
come on.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Yeah exactly. So yeah, everything there seems great. But yeah,
I just I have not heard a lot of good things.
I heard that it had a troubled development as well,
which is just a shame. It's a shame because I
just like, I want that movie to be great because
the other three were just fucking fantastic. And uh yeah,

(24:14):
so that's why it's on my top ten because it
has to be. Like I'm just like, I'm a big
I'm a Captain America, like you know, stand in the MCU.
I think it's one of their best, you know series,
So I'm hoping that one's good.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Yeah, I have hopes for it, and I know there's
been production issues with it, but I think a lot
of it And it's so hard because we see this thing.
You see a ton of writers attached to it. The
directors stayed down the whole time, which I guess is
a plus, but you know it's obviously gone through a
ton of reshoots and everything like that. It got affected
also by the actors and writers strike too.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Yeah, the writer strike.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Yeah. But I think what a lot of people are
forgetting is that Marvel went through a big retooling phase
kind of like a few years ago, and I I
think kind of the changes in this are products of that,
because what people aren't talking about is that Darren unbl
Born again went through similar things. They filmed like half
of a season before the writers and actor strikes and

(25:12):
they just got rid of it and they're like, no,
this isn't right. We're going to do this right. And
then you see that trailer and you're like, oh, they
got this down. They know what they're doing. I mean,
of course, you can make a good trailer in the
show could be shitty, but is.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
The same showrunner from the Netflix series doing it now?

Speaker 1 (25:29):
The new showrunner is the guy who did Punisher? Is
the show runner?

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Oh okay, cool, cool?

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Cool for durable?

Speaker 4 (25:34):
Yeah yeah, yeah, that's fine with me. Yeah, because I know,
uh hell back though. Yeah yeah, so all right, cool cool, I'm.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Cool with that.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
So I'm hoping all of the changes, rewrites, reshoots and
everything like that was in order to get the product
that they knew they needed to put out rather than
trying to like fix whatever, you know. That's my hope.
Maybe that's my optimism.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
They scaled back their manufacturing machine. I think they went
too far with what they were doing. Yeah, there were
two even I'm like, honestly, Fase four and five, I've
only seen key things, Like I still haven't seen.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Eternals, what is it the Marvels or whatever? I haven't seen.
I never saw the one. What is it Kamala Khan?
What's her?

Speaker 1 (26:19):
What's her?

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Miss Marvel?

Speaker 4 (26:21):
I never saw that, although I hear that that one's
good and people like her a lot, so I hope
to see her return. Yeah, Like there's certain things I
missed out on because I'm like, this is too much,
Like I can't, I can't.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Keep up with all this.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Yeah, I get it. It totally totally makes a ton
of sense. Next on my list is The Monkey. It's
a Stephen King adaptation, but it's done by Oz Perkins,
who did Long Legs of last year, the highly Long Legs,
which was personally one of my favorites of last year.
And I've only seen a little bit. I've been trying

(26:54):
to totally steer clear of trailers, especially with horror movies.
I've just been trying to ignore them, not even watch them.
If I know who's involved and I kind of know
the premise, I'm like, that's that's all I need. I
know THEO James in this, and I think he's a
great actor that's finally kind of getting some really good
recognition for the roles he's been doing recently. He was
in The White Lotus, he was in the Gentleman series,

(27:15):
The Guy Richie Netflix series, and I've and all the
reactions to this, they're like, they're calling it a horror comedy,
but they're like, I feel bad calling it a horror
comedy because it's just fucking amazing and bashit crazy and
bloody and awesome, and apparently Stephen King had no notes
for it, which I know we've kind of heard those
similar things with some Stephen King adaptations. But yeah, I

(27:36):
have full faith that this is going to be off
the wall and awesome.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
That's exciting.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
Okay, Yeah, I did see stuff about that movie, but
I mean there's so many Stephen King adaptations at this
point that I'm like, whenever I see it, I'm just
kind of like, eh, so hopefully that that does are
not good. And I get exact because like it was
kind of one of those that like took the world
by storm yep, and like that was. Yeah, it was
one of those that I wasn't you know, oh it's
another Stephen King film, and everybody started talking about it,
and I was like, well, I guess I'll go see it,
you know, so all right, that's cool.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Actually I have a horror movie next on my list
as well. What do you got twenty eight years later?

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Oh, I have that. That's my number five, number five?

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Oh yeah, I mean dude, I mean, what can you
what else can you say? But as soon as I
saw that that was coming back, I was like, let's
fucking go. I'm in, like, and then they had what
is it?

Speaker 3 (28:25):
They have Garland and Danny Boyle returning. I was like
what that was what surprised me. I knew Garland was
returning and didn't know about Boyle. So when I when
I saw that Danny Boyle was returning, I was like,
all right, I'm even more in than I already was.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
I think Danny Boyle is the reason Garland came back,
because obviously we have seen that Garland's been on his
director and writer kick, not just writing. Yeah, it's been
kind of him doing his own things, and now this
is like his first time back in just the writer's chair,
and I think, yeah, Danny Boyle is the reason. That
is the thing. And this is a it's kind of

(28:59):
like a two part of it. There's another movie that
I think they filmed back to back, and so there's
a movie going to be following this after this, I
think coming out next year. So we got a lot
more twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
So that so that rumor is.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
True, okay, because like I had heard that too, but
then when the trailer came out, it was kind of
like that was nobody was talking about that they were
just you know, I was like that that was kind
of it. So all right, I'm interested to see what
they end up doing, because what's after Are they going
to go backwards and do twenty eight months? You know?

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Apparently it's like twenty years later part two, and then
it's like something like the Bone something is like the tagline,
I think, which could change a lot of those kind
of tagline.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Shitle they do. Okay, cool, so it's a two P movie.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Yeah, same reason is why I have it on my list.
I'm so stoked for Alex Scarland and Dan Boyle to
re collaborate on this. And the trailer was fucking That's
like one of the best trailers I've seen in recent memory.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, so fucking good.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Incredible to see a trailer do something so effective with
literally like a line of dialogue or something. Maybe there
I don't even know if there was one. I think
it's like my mom saying be.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Quiet at the beginning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's it.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Yeah. Crazy. Next to my list is Mission Impossible, The
Final Reckoning.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
All right, we're sharing a lot of the same list here,
We're Yeah, I'm I'm so in on that. I mean,
what else can you say about it, You're gonna have
a in that movie exactly.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
And I've had an interesting relationship with Mission Impossible, Whereas
when the last one came out, I watched the entire
series leading up to it because I've never seen them before,
and a lot of people are like, there's been a
couple kind of like franchises that I just never got into,
and that was one of the ones where like you've
never watched a Mission Impossible movie, and I'm like, yeah,
I don't know, I just kind of missed them. And
I watched them all in it's in succession, and the

(30:49):
only one I really didn't like is two. All the
other ones I thought, like the first one I was like,
surprisingly like super holds up for being of its time,
like a nineties movie, like it like really ill to
this day. I was like, damn, this is good. The
second one is just kind of like a you know,
two hour long trailer, I think, or music video more
than the movie.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
I think I started on Mission Impossible.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
Three.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
I don't think I've ever seen the first two.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Still, the first one is awesome, like it is, but
three three is is that that's when the film phillips
super often.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Right, yeah, jj Abrams was on it.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that movie is fucking fire.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Yeah yeah, yeah, that's a good movie.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
No, they all get better as they as they go,
in my opinion, at least like where I you know
where I started, because I saw three in theaters and
then I, you know, I've seen everyone.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Okay, yeah, yeah, great, great, great, great movies. Did you
have that sort of numbered?

Speaker 3 (31:42):
It's after twenty eight years later?

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Oh so it's literally the same as mine. Okay, yeah, yeah, perfect?
Oh the next you had Sinners at seven? My seven was?
Is this movie another horror movie. It's called Companion and
it stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid and it's the
same writer director that did Barbarian, which I king loved Barbara.
Same with this. I have not watched the trailer because

(32:05):
I heard the writer and dector of Barbarian that was like,
that's all I need. Comes out. I think in like
a week or something. So my birthday is at the
beginning of February, so I think my birthday plan might
just be ghostious to be honest.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm semi interested because Jack Quaid, I like,
you know, I like him. Yeah, so's he's good in
the Boys and all that, So I yeah, that was
I think the only thing that sort of interested me.
I know that my best friend he watches a lot
of horror. He's talked about Barbarian and isn't it that
one that's like kind of a two parter?

Speaker 1 (32:38):
It was like Barbarians?

Speaker 4 (32:40):
Yeah in ways, yeah, yeah, okay, so I've heard good
things about that, so yeah, I'm interested in seeing a companion.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Barbarians kind of like, first half this kind of thriller
and the second half turns into this wacky, kind of
wild ride. And I can understand why people some people
kind of not of it after the first half because
it tastes a very abrupt turn. But it felt like

(33:06):
Cabin in the Woods to me, and I love Cabin
in the Woods. It's like one of my favorite horror movies.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Yeah, so I had that kind of vibe where that
started as kind of like this like slasher thriller and
then turns into something that's like who the fuck's all
this coming? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Going to number six. Would you have in your number six.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Superman? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Superman? That is my number one. Oh okay, yeah, it's
my most anticipated movie of next year. Mostly I love
James Gunn, big James gun fan, and that trailer just
gave me everything that I think I wanted. I don't know.
I was just like, this is a fucking trailer, man, goddamn.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
Yeah. I've had faith that this movie was gonna be good.
As soon as I saw his name attached to the
project and he was writing it, I'm like, this guy's
gonna get it right. I was like, there's no way,
this guy's not gonna get this right. And we very
very very much need somebody to get super Man right
right now. So yeah, I'm really excited about it. My

(34:06):
dad has a really like deep connection to the Christopher
Reeves Superman films and like the John Williams score and
like all that sort of stuff, and uh, and I
remember him seeing the trailer and he said, you know,
I'm not gonna lie to you.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
He's like, I kind of wanted to start crying.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
When I heard that score come on, and yeah and
I and so yeah, So for me, I'm like, if
you can make a movie that's gonna make my dad
like cry, then you've got a good Superman movies on
your hand. So you know, so I'm excited about that,
and uh yeah, I'm excited to see it with my dad.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
That seems like a fun baby.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
I do think it's gonna kind of I think it's
gonna it might have like a top Gun Maverick kind
of effect where it kind of brings in that older
crowd that was attached to the Christomaer Reeve because a
lot of it tonally, and obviously like them doing their
own version of the score is going to bring people
in just with that. But I think I think the
biggest thing for this is that it's going to be
like the Superman of Art generation. Like obviously the Reeves

(35:01):
are kind of out of our age group, like we
weren't alive when yeah, that movie came out.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Yeah yeah, there's some dated stuff in there. There's like
a whole musical number in the first one. It was
just like it's still kind of funny, you know. It's like,
you know, you got you gotta have to take it
with the grand as salt. You're kind of like, well
that that that was the time, and like this is
like what the first superhero movie like ever, like so yeah,
at least one of the first.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
So yeah, so I think it can be like the
defind of Superman for us and for the generations younger
than us, you know, And I think that's that's a
really special thing.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
And it's the thing that I foresee a DCU comeback
like a really strong swim. I don't I don't see
how this James Gunn thing can go wrong right now.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
At least right now, unless he proves me otherwise. Yeah, basically,
then I then I have full faith in him. My
number six is Mickey seventeen the Bump.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
I got that on there. I got that on there.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
Well, I just remember my list is in no particular order,
so I guess you could say that this would be
at what four, So you're gonna look at it?

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Yeah, I just did. I just did little dash marks.
So yeah, I got Mickey seventeen on here.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
It just looks great. I mean, Bong June Hoe. It
is his first movie back since Parasite, which is kind
of crazy to even think about.

Speaker 4 (36:16):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. For me, it's Robert Pattinson is
doing a weird accent. I'm fucking in, like hear it.
You're like, this is probably good and yeah, and I'm in.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
I think when the first like image and teaser, when
it was just him and that kind of like cat
scan looking kind of contraption machine thing that they first
released forever ago. I thought it might have been it
might be like a little bit more of like a
hard sci fi kind of movie. But when the trailer first,
you're like, oh, it's kind of funny too. It has
this playful nature. But I'm sure there's gonna be some

(36:49):
massive commentary to be said with this movie. Parasite's kind
of funny too. It's it's like fast, it's like a thriller,
but it has its funny moments for sure.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
Yeah, yeah, Yeah, I'm excited to see that director sort
of step out into that. I think that directors like him,
think of the guy who directed Shaolin' Soccer and like
Kung Fu Hustle and like that sort of stuff.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
I feel that's within him, that kind of yeah for sure. Yeah, Yeah,
that's within him for sure. So I would I'm excited that.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
It makes me excited to see that movie because like
I'm like, all right, if he gets the flex a
little bit of that, like that's where I'm gonna be
like sold on this guy completely.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Yeah. In multiple versions of Robert Pattinson Dying Infinitely.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, that's all I need, Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
My number five was twenty years later, what did you
have next on your list?

Speaker 3 (37:41):
I had Fantastic four.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
That is mine number three.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Mine is a it's a very angry thing on this list,
mostly because don't fuck this up. I swear to god MCU.
If you fuck this up, you're fucking up Doctor Doom,
and you're fucking up the next movie, and you're fucking
up the This better be good. Okay, we've had two
adaptations and they both have not been great. All Right,

(38:06):
we need this to be good. You need to nail
this one.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
I think that this movie is more important than any
of those Avengers movies coming out, any of else This
is the one that if they can't nail this, I'm
gonna say it right now to MCU, it's it's it's
you know, it's gonna be.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Gone for a bit.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
I went to Santuecoma Con last year. I was in
HALLH for the Marvel Studios panel, and they showed a
sizzle reel for Fantastic Four that was not released the
public because it was only compiled of previous animatics and
test shots they did the week of pre production leading
up to actually shooting the movie. This is before they

(38:46):
even actually officially started shooting the movie, and they showed
this sizzle reel that I Am Not Messing with You
was some of the coolest, possibly the coolest thing I've
ever seen the MCU that a little bit of Galactus
and he looked like Galactus, which is thank you, thank you.

(39:08):
I think this movie is going to be so fucking special.
July of this year is the most important month I
think in comic book movie adaptations.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
Yeah, all, yeah, absolutely, yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
When the first trailer for this drops, which I think
is going to be in a few weeks around the
Super Bowl, I think they're gonna drop on the Super Bowl,
just like how they did with And it's the only
movie this year that has MCU movie that hasn't had
a trailer out. I think they're waiting for that, and
I mean, again, it's only a few weeks away, so
why not wait for that. The posters they've released, the
cast they have for the main four are so fucking perfect,

(39:42):
And anyone who doubted Paedro Pascal wait until you see
footage of him as read Richards, because holy fuck that,
motherfuckers read Richards. I never had any doubt because I
think Patri Pascal is just fucking incredible.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
He's a good actor.

Speaker 4 (39:54):
Yeah, yeah, I think a lot of people felt it
was safe because he's in everything, you know.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Yeah. There there was his interview where he talked about
how he memorized lines, and it was the most read
Richards ass shit that he just does in real life.
I was like, anyone who had doubts, go watch this
interview because holy shit, this dude just is re read Richards.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
I think in some way shape all right, cool, we
need star power in the MCU right now, and it
is he's your Yeah, he's your new a dropper Downey Junior.
You know if you can, if you can make this
film work that way.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah. So I can't wait to see a first trailer
of stuff they actually shot. But and again, the big
kicker in this which I think is super important, Matt
Shackman as the director who did WandaVision, which WandaVision was
a fucking work of art. He nails this like nineteen sixties,

(40:45):
super like retrofuturistic vibe to the fucking team man like
he fucking like again just in this is real. You've
seen the logo we've heard a little bit of the
score from Mike Giacchino. Like everything I've seen out of.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
That yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, they got all the makings
of something here.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
Yeah, so I'm hoping too. That's again, that's my number three,
which you're number five. My number four is Wicked for Good,
the second part of Wicked. I know this might surprise
a lot of people, but when I did my top
ten of the year, I had Wicked at number two.
I fucking and I know nothing about I knew nothing
about the play. My wife loved the play. She was

(41:23):
a theater kid in high school, did performed some of it,
went to Broadway with her mom and saw it. But
that movie blew me the fuck away. It's incredible, Like,
it's such a good movie and it I guess if
you don't like musicals, I've even seen people who don't
like musicals since they're like this movie, it's crazy. This
is I haven't seen a movie that's proved so many
people wrong in a long time. I guess because there

(41:44):
were so many like critics in the space that like
I kind of enveloped in Twitter, that they kind of
had a similar thing to me. Whereas I went in
with I love John M. Chew. I think he's a
great director. He did Crazy rot Asians, he did In
the Heights, which In the Heights was another musical as well,
And I saw the trailer and I was like, I
bet this will be good at least the very least.

(42:05):
But then I I came out of it being like,
holy shit, that the movie was fucking incredible. So I
can't wait for second to watch.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
I have had no interest in it. I have had none.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
It is so good.

Speaker 4 (42:19):
Yeah, I would say, I would say that might be
a film that's a little outside of, like I guess,
the comfort zone of things that I like to watch.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
So I guess have to go get that a try,
all right, I because I did like what the hell
I saw musical recently that I ended up really enjoying. Well,
not a musical.

Speaker 4 (42:35):
I was the wonk of film. There was a lot
of musical numbers of that. Yeah it's basically a musical
and uh yeah that one.

Speaker 3 (42:41):
I ended up walking out walking a lot more than
I thought I was going to because I'm a big
original Wanka.

Speaker 4 (42:48):
Lover and I did not like the Johnny Depp one.
I will maintain that to this day, that movie is terrible.
But Timothy shame Man, he's yeah, all right, dude, I
get you.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
I get you man, You're not bad. So yeah, that
was that was a fun movie.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
Yeah, move And I went and saw that in the theaters.
I think mostly just because of Timothy Shallimy. To be honest,
I think that was the main driving force to go
see it. We both walked out being like, Wow, that
was actually really good. Yeah, did not get that way.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
Yeah, was not expecting that at all. Actually, you know,
I have something on my list. I don't know if
this is going to come out this year. I have
no clue, but I saw this and I was like,
are you kidding me? They're doing this?

Speaker 3 (43:30):
And I think I'm just more interested to see what
this thing is all about rather than like, I'm actually
excited about it. And I put the Naked Gun remake.
Do you know about this film series The Naked Gun?

Speaker 4 (43:41):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (43:41):
I know about The Naked Gun. I didn't even know
they were making a remake, but that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (43:44):
Remake and apparently Liam Neeson isn't it and it's set
to release this year in August.

Speaker 1 (43:49):
What, Yeah, I'm looking this up.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
That's why I was super confused by that.

Speaker 1 (43:55):
Holy what what the fuck? This is crazy?

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Also, Pamela Anderson, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (44:02):
Yeah, Pamela Anderson. Yeah that was the other thing.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
Yeah, yeah, wild, that's crazy. I think it's gonna be
much like most things nowadays, a lot of movies, franchises whatever,
aren't doing reboots, They're doing continuations. They're doing like legacy sequels,
if you will. I think this is what it seems
like to be. It seems to be a kind of continuation.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
I kind of hope, so I kind of I don't know,
I you know, I mean, if you're gonna do something, yeah,
do a sequel.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
I'm actually interested to see how that goes, too, especially
because Leam Nissan has been stuck in this like continuous
ruh of terrible action movies where he just just taken
over and over again. So I guess I'm excited to
see him do anything else. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you know,
if he's getting paid, good for him. You know, do

(44:49):
your thing, dude, you know, no, no, shade. My number
two slot is the Life of Chuck, which officially coming
out this year, but it made its kind of festival
circuit last year. And this is a Mike Flanagan movie.
It is also Stephen King adaptation, but it's not a
horror thing at all. It's it came from It's a novella.

(45:11):
So it's part of this book collection that's four short
stories of Stephen King called If It Bleeds and the
Life of Chuck is within this group of collection of
short stories, and it's really just about kind of like
the world coming to an end and like a really

(45:32):
a study about humanity. Basically, I kind of got back
into reading. My wife like encouraged me. She got back
into reading last year. I guess from like when I
was a kid. I haven't really read much of my
adult years other than comics, and she got back into reading,
and then she encouraged me to get back into reading,
and now we're both just reading regularly, which I think
is it's it's nice and it's like a cool I

(45:55):
don't know, it's I've kind of just fell back in
love with it, or fell in love with it in
my adult life, I guess is a safe way to
put it. But I saw all the hype and acclaim
out of the film festivals from this movie, so I
was like, I want to read the short story. So
I read it, and it is beautiful. And Mike Flannigan's
the king of Stephen King adaptations. He did Doctor Sleep

(46:18):
and I think he's as well, but he is. He's
also the guy who did all of the some of
the best Netflix series Haunting on Hillhouse, The follow the
File Up House Usher. He's incredible. Tom Hiddleston is one
of the main characters in this. I know Karen Gillen

(46:39):
is in it as well, or Karen Gillen isn't it.
I'm so excited for I think I'm probably gonna reread
the short story again because it doesn't come out to
the summer. Neon ended up purchasing the rights to it
to distribute it this and they picked a summer release
for it, and I think it's going to have massive
oscar buzz. It's crazy because Mike Flanagan funded this himself.

(47:01):
He funded the movie himself and then ended up selling
the rights back through the Film Festival. But he made
the movie with his own money, which I think is
so fucking cool.

Speaker 4 (47:10):
In a testament he wanted to make this, Yeah, exactly,
this is something he really wanted to make. Yeah, yeah, Okay,
so I too, because I My next film was Paddington
in Peru.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
Who doesn't, like, I never seen a Paddington movie.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
Dude, They're way better than you what you would expect.
I don't know why, but like I've heard, they're one
of those It's one of those things that, like you,
I think it's just because the bear or something, I
don't know what it is. You see the movie and
you're like, oh, that's like a fun little kids movie whatever,
you know, and you just kind of walk past it
because you're an adult and like, you know, you just
keep living your life. And then you go and you
watch him and you're like, holy fuck.

Speaker 1 (47:44):
You're like, what the fuck could I just watch I've
heard nothing but amazing things, Like I mean, Paddington Too
was like a massive plot point of the Unbearable way
of massive talent, the Nick Cage movie.

Speaker 4 (47:58):
That was actually why I ended up watching Addington. I
got convinced because of that film.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
Yeah, yeah, there you go.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
Yeah, I thought that was so funny and then uh,
like that whole bit was hilarious to me and then amazing.

Speaker 3 (48:10):
But but that's the thing, there's so much truth in that.
Like you walk out and you're like, holy fuck, that
was good. You're like that was way better than anywhere,
and that I thought it was going to be.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
Yeah, yeah, I got I gotta get to it. I
gotta get to it. Maybe maybe I'll finally do that,
hunker down and watch all the page movies with this
third one coming out, Yeah, it's good time, good time
to get into it. So yeah, I had Superman at
my most anticipated of the year. So what'd you have
at the top to the top of R I don't I.

Speaker 3 (48:38):
Well, like I said, this is no order, what is it?

Speaker 4 (48:41):
Eddington the Ariaster next next film? Yeah, yeah, I mean
Hereditary made me feel emotions in a film that.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
I don't to this day.

Speaker 4 (48:53):
I don't know if I if I felt ever in
any film. That scene when they find the daughter in
the car, right, that's a scene and then that next
shot they just show you all of it. And I
just that the shot in the Horror I felt of
that shot. That's the movie right there, the whole the

(49:16):
entire Like that's the scariest part of the movie is
just seeing that shot. To this day, that still like
kind of haunts my head, like that was fucked up
seeing that, And yeah, so much so that I couldn't
watch Midsummer I still haven't seen you as afraid, but
but I'm gonna. I'm gonna see Eddington because like anything
that that guy releases, I'm like, all right, I at

(49:37):
least have to keep an eye out on this sure
and uh because like that pation of emotion that I
that I felt uh from from that shot alone, UH
will always make me remember who this guy is.

Speaker 1 (49:49):
So yeah, GREATT is one of my favorite horror movies
of all time. I think it's insanely infective effective.

Speaker 4 (49:57):
And yet watching it gets better because you start noticing
details and stuff. You start noticing like what's what what
people are doing in the background, like that there's always
people like kind of watching them and stuff. And and
then there's like little shots of like you know, you'll
see like a light move and and these things that
you just didn't notice the first time you watched it.
And it's all kind of telling that story because like

(50:18):
the first time I watched it, I didn't like the ending.
It wasn't really until the second or third time that
I got like like that this was this was the
entire film, Like this is what they were building to.
That was Yeah, that's my that's my last one. There
we shared a lot of the same list.

Speaker 1 (50:32):
We do. We do share a lot of the same list.
I think my favorite part about this stuff it's usually
the ones that kind of surprised me that end up
coming out and you know, you had like no idea
they were coming like this, Like last year was like
the Brutalist, and I mean I never would have had
Wicked and my most anticipated I definitely did of last year.

Speaker 4 (50:49):
The Former's one, I think was another one that I think,
uh what was It was way better than I think
anybody was expecting.

Speaker 1 (50:56):
Yeah, yeah, and that that first trailer for that movie
was awful. We are even the Wild Robot last year
like it?

Speaker 3 (51:03):
Oh yeah, yeah, I haven't seen that one yet. I
haven't seen it. I've heard it is painful.

Speaker 1 (51:07):
So yeah, get ready to cry a lot. But dude,
thank you so much for doing this to me. This
was awesome.

Speaker 3 (51:13):
Oh yeah, yeah. No, I will take any chance to
uh talk about stuff like this.

Speaker 4 (51:18):
Uh yeah, film, video games, all that sort of stuff
that that's my bread and butter, honestly, Like I love
making music, and music is you know, it's becoming my career, right.
But what I've realized growing older is that I need
things outside of that, right, Like I need like my
things that I enjoy. I've always enjoyed our in all
aspects and uh so you know for me, like that's

(51:41):
why I think I get more excited about this stuff
because like I don't have to talk about music for
like two seconds, you know, like I can talk about
my favorite video game. Yeah, I can talk about my
fun Nintendo facts. Fuck yeah, Like you know, like I'll
do that at anytime or you know, fun movie facts,
right Yeah. So yeah, no, I always enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (51:58):
Thank you for having me, oh anytime, welcome back anytime. Seriously.
I love having returned people come back and talking about
this stuff is obviously a massive joy for me.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
