Speaker 3 (01:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Nothing much, but I'm currently in upstate New York in
the middle of a massive snowstorm, really unsure of how
my weekend's gonna happen. Like it's probably gonna be a
lot of staying in my house.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, I mean, to be fair, there's no snow by me,
and I rarely leave the house anyway, so I don't
think it's that I think it's that crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
That's fair. I did get. I can't talk about it,
but I got screeners for the new season of Separance,
So if I'm home all weekend, I'm just gonna watch
that until it's dead in the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I think I would love to watch that. You have
the whole season.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
I have the first six episodes, but I've been instructed
after I finish those to let them know and they'll
send me the last few on a separate screening platform,
which I have never had from Apple, which is kind
of wild. Which makes me think that the last three
episodes are going to be mind blowing, you know. But
as this comes out, I'll be able to talk about
my reaction on the seventh, so you'll be able to
(02:14):
hear what I think about the season at least. And
of course we're the return of the show, our first silencer.

will be down the descriptions below, so make sure you
go and support them, and of course, for more music recommendations,
you can check out the mail corner. It's pull a
Spotify playlist, but we got some big news. Obviously, a
(07:32):
talk of the new DCU has become a regular thing
on this podcast because a lot of news is coming
out all the time about it. This has been a
rumor for a while, ever since James Gunn kind of
took the helms of dc But it's now confirmed Jason
Momoa will be playing Lobo in the upcoming super Girl movie.
Now a lot of people think this is, you know,
(07:52):
fan casting come to life. The dude looks like fucking Lobo, Like,
he just looks really like. I liked him as a man.
I thought it was fine. He brought like a new
energy to the character. But I think it's a cool
way to utilize a solid charismatic actor in a role
that's probably more suited for him, so that we can
(08:14):
get kind of a more modern comic book ye accurate Aquaman,
because we never really have had that. Jason Momoa is
kind of the only real one. But unless you want
to count like small villain shit. But I don't think
that's really the same level of Aquaman that we're going
to get in this. But how are you feeling about
Jason Momoa joining the Supergirl cast?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
I honestly think it's like perfect casting. So, like, my
familiarity with Lobo really comes from the Superman the Animated series, right,
Like when I was a kid, I would watch that,
So that's really what I know him from. And if
it's like it is in Superman the Animated series, it's
kind of like a heel kind of character, you know
what I mean. Like he's really fucking like over the
top and sort of like like a mean Spider Man,
(08:59):
you know, the way he talks. That's the best way
I can put it. And I just think if you
saw Jason Momoa in the recent Fast and the Furious movie, yeah,
I think it's amazing. Like if you just take Jason
Momoa from like the recent Fast and the Furious movie
and put him in Lobo makeup, I think I think
it's there. It is there, It is right there. It's perfect.
(09:21):
I think he was having so much fun in that movie,
and I think he works really well as like this
sort of likable asshole type character. And I think I
think that's gonna be what Lobo hopefully. That's what Lobo
Isca said. Something interesting I never thought about. It's like
they probably will do a more comic accurate Aquaman than
Jason Momoa, James Gunn. I truly never thought about that
(09:44):
until right now, and I think I'm pretty interested to
see that Harbs. So I can't wait to see Jason
Momoa in Supergirl. I'm wondering if I was get a
Supergirl cameo or teas or mentioned in the Superman movie
that comes out this year. We're now officially in the
year of Superman and The Girl is set to start
production in the next few weeks and is due out
June twenty sixth of twenty twenty six So exciting.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Time, exciting time for DC. But I want to get
into what we've both been watching. So now watching section right,
what have you been watching?
Speaker 2 (10:17):
I go see a lot more movies than I watched TV.
But on TV, I've been watching the new Dexter series,
the Dexter prequel series. Oh yeah, And I was so
on the fence going into it. I was like, how
does this work? What do you mean you're going to
do with Dexter prequel? But then it's going to be
the same Dexter like narrate, like you know what I mean,
(10:38):
It's like, what's happening here? I'm glad to say it works.
It's amazing. I feel like Dexter's back, Like I'm having
the best time. It's Friday right now, like and Dexter's
coming out tonight, and I cannot wait. Oh yeah to
watch for Dexter tonight. I'm I'm so surprised at how
much I like it and also how much some of
the casting of like the prequel people is is like
(11:03):
so on the nose, like like, shout out to the
guy playing Angel Batista.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
He is, like, I swear, it's like his son.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
It's it's insane, like so many of them are so good.
The guy playing Angel Batista, it's like he does the
thing with his eyes. I don't I don't know how
to explain everything. He yeah, like he is totally channeled
in there. The only weird one for me is Christian
Slater is Harry because it's like, uh, you know what
I mean, the guy Yeah, yeah, Like I feel like Harry.
(11:32):
You know, Harry's been dead for the entirety of Dexter,
but there's all the flashbacks with him and stuff. So
it's like I almost was like, you could probably just
get the same guy, right, Like he's probably not doesn't
look that much older, but uh, he's Harry in the
original Dexter series has such a specific tone and like
specific mannerisms about him, and then like, Christian Slater is
(11:53):
just like being Christian Slater, you know, you know what
I mean in this in this show, which is great.
Like I love him. Like when I was watching the
opening credit role and they were like, oh, with Christian Slater,
I was like, hell, yeah, I love him, Like who's
he gonna be? And it wasn't until like a couple
times after they like called him Harry that I was like,
no way, like this is him, but like I'm here
for it. I think I think it's super fun. I
(12:16):
feel like a million movies. I saw No Sparatu. Obviously
I did too. How'd you feel about No Sarati? I
don't know if it's a hot take or not, because,
to be honest, I figured most people would feel like me.
And then I looked at the Rotten Tomatoes score and
it seems like it's doing pretty positive. I came out
of No. Spratu fairly disappointed, if I'm being honest. Oh
thank god, I was, so I was like, I've been
(12:38):
waiting for this movie for so long, but you know,
I feel like I should have had more tempered expectations,
like I don't like the lighthouse, you know, I know
that's kind of a contentious thing too, so he made
the lighthouse as well. I was so fucking excited for
No Sparatu, and then like I'm sitting there, I'm like
twenty minutes into the movie, and I'm like, all right,
like it's gonna get better, right, you know. And then
(12:59):
I'm probably like I'm probably like forty five minutes into
the movie, and I'm having this like internal monologue with
myself where I'm just like, do I not like this movie?
Like what's what's happening? Do I completely not like it?
And I don't know if I was just like zoning out,
but I felt like there was some shit I just
didn't understand, like there was something like it felt like
just it felt like everything happened and nothing happened all
(13:21):
at the same time. It was like what was what
is what is going on? How did he even get
back here? How did he get in that boat? How
did Nicholas Holt get back here? He jumped out of
a window and then now he's back here on a horse,
Like what's going on?
Speaker 6 (13:33):
You know?
Speaker 2 (13:34):
It was like I don't know, man, I was so
so disappointed by Nosatu.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
I was, do the Lighthouse is the only Robertords movie
I haven't seen. I've seen The Witch obviously, and I've
seen The Northman, which both I do.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
I love The north Man. I'm like, I'm like the
Middle of the Road on which but I love The north.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
When I posted, I'm like, I'm gonna get flamed for this,
but I was disappointed by no Satu, And then I
kind of went on to say I first I said
Lily Rose Depp was miscast, but I'm kind of walking
back on that. I don't think she was miscast. I
think she was misdirected because I just feel like her
performance didn't fit the vibe of the movie at all.
(14:15):
Like her scenes felt so like goofy and corny, and
I just wish I saw the performance everyone else seemed
to see and they're like, oh, she was incredible, and
I'm like, I don't know. Her drooling and convulsing did
not do it for me, Like it just felt like
so over the top. And you know, like the movie
looks unbelievable. Oh yeah, it looks amazing. It's it's technically gorgeous.
(14:42):
You know, Oh yeah, when Nicholas Hold's character goes to Transylvania.
That's some of the coolest shit of like how he's
like unaware of when he's awake of when he's not
like what he's imagining. Like I wish, I wish like
the Possession stuff was replaced by that where you're kind
of in this weird fever dream of not knowing what's
real and what's fake. I really wish or it was
like that, because that stuff was cool and it had
(15:03):
that dark, mysterious vibe. And then when you finally see
Count Arlock and he's got a fucking pix our dad mustache,
and I'm like, what the fuck is what is going on?
I'm like, oh my god, you know, And then all
these people on my Facebook post being like, oh, you
just don't understand gothic corr or you didn't you don't
get Robert Edgars. I'm like, I'm a Robert Vers fan,
Like I like Robert Egars' movies. I just felt like
(15:25):
this movie was corny and it shouldn't have been corny.
Like I'm a very big guy on tone, and I
felt like the tone was like I love Willemdafoe Willem
Dafoe does Wilmdafoe amazing in this movie, but he feels
like a fucking cartoon character.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Well that's so when you talk about like, I agree,
when you talk about like Lily roe steps performance, I would,
I would raise your acclaim. And I feel like almost
everyone is acting in a different movie, you know, Like
I think the only one in the right movie is
possibly Aaron Taylor Johnson. Yeah, he's having the time of
his life in there, you know what I mean, And.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
He just feels like he belongs in the movie when
everyone else I'm Nicholas Cole, I guess, But when he
has to act mostly aside Lily Rose Depp, it's kind
of like, I don't know. And the ending feels so
anti climactic and dumb, like, hey, there's this big powerful
and spoilers if if, if you haven't watched those fatu
skip like two minutes ahead. But you're telling me this
(16:22):
all powerful plague bringing vampire comes here, the sun is rising,
and he's so infatuated with this woman that he just
lets himself die. Get the fuck spoilers.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
We spent five hundred million dollars making a movie where
the end is no Spratu has sex and then dies.
That's what it's, you know, like, that's that's the end
of the movie.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
It was crazy blew my mind because everyone I remember
everyone talking about like, oh the ending scene, and the
scene happened, and I was like, fuck off, Like what.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Yeah, hearing it, I was really really surprised at at
how I felt about it. And yeah, I often find
myself thinking like, how do you get this much more
like who reads this this script and then goes, We're
gonna give you a blank check to make this movie?
Because it looked like one of the most expensive movies
(17:20):
I ever saw, you know what I mean, Like I
was just like, how do you get this? Fun day?
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Oh wow, no, fifty million dollars?
Speaker 2 (17:28):
No way, all right, I'm wrong. We spent fifty million
dollars on a movie where no, Saratu has sex and
then dies. That's that's what it is. But that's that's
honestly shocking, just with the set pieces, and I mean
there's so much, uh, there's so much that they did.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
That's and it made that in the box office already.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
So yeah, I'm sure it made that opening weekend. That's
that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
I'm actually shocked of how cheap it was too, because
like I figured for sure, like the prosthetics alone or yeah,
I don't know, like it does look like a very
expensive movie. So for making a movie that looks like
it's two hundred million dollars for fifty.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah, that's shocking. That's what I thought. I figured it
was like I figured it was like two fifty production,
like two fifty marketing, you know, Like that's what That's
what I thought. So that's that's great, surprising, that's insane.
All right, Well there we go.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Well what else you've been watching?
Speaker 2 (18:23):
I saw Baby Girl with Nicole Kidman. I thought that
was Actually I thought it was a pretty good movie. Actually,
I thought it was a lot of fun. It's like
a weird uh it's almost thriller esque, you know, and
what it's doing, you know, it's not just some like
fifty shades of Gray type movie, which I feel like
a lot of people probably think it is. It's like
a it's almost like a throwback old school like nineties thriller,
(18:46):
you know. So I thought it was I thought it
was a lot of fun. Saw mufassa that it was
all right, you know, it was all right. I would
like to collectively like start a petition to just like
stop getting Linn Manuel Miranda to write Disney songs in movies.
I think he's great, but I think we've like milked
him to the bone, you know what I mean. I
think he's just like, all right, you want me to
(19:08):
do Mufasa? Okay, here we go. And I think he's
just like, I think he's just on his last legs,
you know, because I think he's such a phenomenal songwriter
that you know, I'm listening to the songs in Mufasa,
and I was just like, man, I think he's tired.
I think he think he's just I think he just
needs to hang it up for a little bit, or
(19:29):
just write something he's actually interested in. I guess most
of what I've been watching recently is my my twelve
year old nephew play Fortnite on my on my TV downstairs.
And I've never played Fortnite before in my life, and I,
you know, I thought I had a pretty good understanding
of what that game was, and after watching him playing,
I realized I know nothing about Fortnite. I don't know
(19:53):
what's happening. I feel like I'm watching a parody of
what someone would think, like you would put in a
joke gen Z movie about like what kids are playing, Like,
I'm there's so much information happening at all times. He's
constantly building walls around things, like I'm like, I don't
know what the fuck this game is. He's playing it
(20:14):
right now downstairs. It's I don't know. That's what I'm watching?
Is him play Fortnite? Really? Is what's going on?
Speaker 1 (20:21):
I finally watched Joker fole A do Oh, what do
you think? I thought it was like, fine, I think
it's mostly a bummer because I already my expectations were
in the you know, in the center of the earth,
because everyone said it was the worst one we ever made, okay,
and I was like, it's not the worst one we've
ever made. I mean, I didn't believe it was that anyway,
because in a year where a Rebel Moon sequel came out,
(20:42):
Madam Webb came out, and a Lindsay Lohan Irish rom
com came out, there's no way it's worse than those movies,
and it's not. I think the biggest bumper is that
it's just like pointless. It adds nothing to the character.
It adds nothing to the story, and there's points where
it seems like it could and then it just doesn't.
And I think it's also kind of like borderline offensive
to mental health in the way they treat it in
(21:04):
the movie, where they like, oh, yeah, it's it's meant
it's he's crazy, and then they're like, Nope, he's not.
And I'm just like, I just and I understood the
musical aspect at first. I was like, oh, it's how
they communicate because they don't have the words to say it.
And then Lady Daga was just singing randomly for no reason,
and I'm like, Okay, I guess it's just and it
(21:26):
looks kind of like nos Frock to like it looks incredible,
like it looks amazing. I remember watching the trailer that
was one of my favorite trailers of last year, where
I was like, holy shit, this looks amazing, and then
the movie just says nothing at all, and it was
just kind of a bummer. I don't know, it was
just like, but I can't even call it the worst
comic book movie. A third Venom movie came out last year,
(21:48):
in a Craven movie that I didn't even watch, Like
there's no way it's worse either.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
I want to see Craven, but I but I haven't
seen it. I want to see Craven just because I'm
like a completionist, you know, like I feel like I
need to see to see Craven. But I I saw
a Joker too. The day it came out, like first
screening it came out, I was so pumped because I
love the first Joker. I don't have much beef with
Joker too, you know, I don't. I don't think it's
that bad. I don't think that's crazy. I'm sure I'm
(22:13):
gonna get flamed on the internet, like this guy hates
No Staratu and he likes Joker too, Like, don't fucking
listen to him. But uh, you know, I think it's fine.
I think it's cool. I love the scene, especially where
I forget his friend's name, but he's testifying in court
and he's like Arthur, like you were the only one
that was nice to me, Like you're the only person
I ever Like that was the best scene in the movie,
(22:36):
you know, because I think this at that point he's
like representing himself in court or whatever. It is kind
of not I've only seen it there once now that
I think back on it, I'm like, it is kind
of weird, but uh, you know, I think.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Has othern accent out of nowhere. I went and chest yeah,
because I was like, crazy, I don't think he had
this in the first movie. So I went and watched
like that the night or the talk show scene, and
I'm like, Nope, definitely doesn't have an Outhern accent.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
That's that's his lawyer joker voice, not the joker voice.
Speaker 8 (23:04):
You know.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
That's just I was that is I just think of
a Southern accent. I don't blame you, I just I
was just it's not like a bad movie. I just
there's like a great movie in there that I'm bummed
that Todd phillipson't capitalized and write in like an actual
good script for it.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Oh, that's just.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Like a bummer, Like because there's a scene in the
courthouse where it explodes and he finds his other joker
and I was like, Oh, they're finally getting to the
point of like it's kind of what the whole point
of the first movie is too. And maybe that's also
why I think it's pointless, because it doesn't do anything
different than it's like that scene you talked about is
the only scene where it like almost feels like a
sequel because you're like, oh wow, cool, Yeah, but yeah,
(23:47):
it feels like it's going to get there, and then
it just kind of falls over on itself, and I'm like, ah, whatever,
I guess sure, you know, but I just I ended
it and I was like it was fine, you know,
like whatever, it's good.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
But again, so when I saw it, I saw it
like first screening, opening day, so I didn't have like
all this barrage of it's the worst movie ever like
going into it, you know, and I was I was
surprised that just how much people hated it. I think
I'm generally surprised at like people's reactions to thing on
things on the internet anyway. Like I really, I really
try not to seek out people's reviews or opinions on
(24:22):
things that much anymore. I really did when you know,
maybe like five six years ago, I got super into that,
and then after a while I was just like, why
is everyone so angry about everything? You know, like it's
not a personal affront to not like Joker, how they
did Joker too, you know what I mean, Like it
doesn't it doesn't directly affect you, you know, or anything.
(24:44):
You know, lots of Star Wars stuff. I know we're
going to get into a Skeleton Crew, but it's like,
I don't know if my takes on Skeleton Crew are
are hot or not because I have not seen I've
not seen a single review on Skeleton Crew. Like I'm
just kicking back watching it, you know, and I think
that's the way, that's the way to do it.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Yeah, I'm with you there. I'm just so ingrained in
that world that I see it. It's like there's no
kind of getting away.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Oh for sure, for sure.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
But other than that, I finally watched a Nora, which
I know has been like one of the most hypes
of movies of twenty twenty four.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
What did you think?
Speaker 1 (25:20):
I think it's solid. It's like a movie, Like, it's
a good, solid movie. I can definitely understand why urs
like Mikey Madison is like a favorite for Best Actress, right,
I think it'd be cool to see her win. It's
it's kind of wild. I was having this conversation with
my friend, but pretty much like everyone that was in
that small group of like the Charles Manson thing from
(25:42):
Once upon Time in Hollywood, are all like the biggest
actors in the world now, Like Margaret Qualley was there,
and now you know, Substance is getting a ton of attention,
as it should. I it was like one of my
favorite movies of last year. It was great Atler was there. Now, Yeah,
I didn't think about that. It's it's crazy. So it's
like cool to see, like I watched like kind of
(26:05):
their careers blow up unknowingly because they were in the
Tarantino movie. But it's it's it's also kind of a
testament to Quentin Tarantino for finding talent too, because yeah,
who would have knew that, like those would all be
like some of the biggest stars there are now you know,
all probably after in a few months will all be
not Oscar nominated in the matter in the matter of years.
But it's a solid movie. I didn't I didn't completely
(26:27):
love it like a lot of people seem to do.
But I just thought it was like a dope movie.
It's yeah, it's like it feels different and it's way
funnier than I expected it to be sure, which was cool.
I thought. I thought it was really really really funny.
Speaker 8 (26:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Good.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
I'm a big, big fan of Noora. I like Sean
Baker so much. Like, so when I was watching it,
I was almost like like I really loved the Florida Project.
While I was watching it, I didn't recognize the actress
playing in Noorra. Like obviously, now I know she was
in she was the girl from scream and she was
in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all that, but
I really didn't recognize her. So, but the thing with
the Florida Project is like the lead girl in the
(27:05):
Florida Project is just like some girl that Sean Baker
like pulled off of Instagram, like you vibe this role,
like how about you do this? You know, you know
what I mean? And it's and I just feel like
she embodies that character so much because like she's just
very similar to that character. So as I'm watching a
nora Is, I'm like, I think she did so good
(27:25):
because I was just like, did Sean Baker just like
go around to strip clubs and like just find this girl?
Like did he just pull her out of nowhere? And
then obviously afterwards I'm like, oh, it's a girl from Screams.
She was in Once upon a Time in Hollywood. And
I watched a bunch of interviews with her, and I
was just like, holy shit, like seeing her just talk
as like her regular self and then picturing it back
(27:47):
to a Nora, I was like, she she acted her
ass off in this movie. You know what I mean
A hundred percent. And the last movie I watched I
watched mild Ass. It's on Prime video now, not a
big role, but I love it, love, love, love love
that movie.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
What a surprising movie that was coming of age. If
you guys don't know what it's about and you have
Prime Video and you're looking for something to watch, I
definitely recommend it. But the main premise is that this
teenage girl, right before she's about to head off to college.
They live in Canada, Ontario, Canada. That's where it's filmed.
The location is fucking gorgeous, looks so beautiful and striking
(28:28):
and it's like on a lake and everything like that.
But she takes shrooms with her friends and then she
ends up seeing her old self, which ends up being
opry Plaza, and they have conversations and she's trying to
give her advice and you know, hijinks and sue and somehow,
somehow like that's the only thing is like, I'm a
super big sci fi nerd, so it was killing me
(28:49):
to not know how the mechanics of time travel worked
in this. But I had to let it go. Thisel
phone powers work, you know, that will just because yeah,
she ends up like texting and calling her and I'm like,
how is this a thing? And I just had to
ignore it because it's like, it's not the point story.
It's not a sci fi story. It's just a coming
of age story.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
But it was.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
It was a beautiful coming of age story, and the
ending fucking broke me. It's I could talk about that
movie forever. It's I watched it twice within a span
of a week. Oh wow, because well this is what happened.
It's like, I I watched it on when I saw
that it was on Amazon Prime because I remember seeing
(29:27):
trailers for it and I really really wanted to see it,
but I didn't. I didn't make it out to the theater,
and it felt like it took forever for it to
get on streaming or up for a digital download or whatever,
and I kept looking for it and eventually I just stopped.
But I saw it was on Prime Video and I
was like, oh, I really want to see that. And
I watched it just by myself, and I was just
(29:50):
enraptured in this movie, like I I loved it.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
And then like a week later I said to my girlfriend,
I was like, I think you would fucking love this movie,
and I we should watch it, like I'm just gonna
you know, we should just sit down and watch it.
And she did. And my whole thing is like I
don't know if this is true or not, but I
feel like that that first scene with Aubrey Plaza, like
after they're sitting at the campfire and they're talking to
(30:16):
each other, I almost feel like that is the movie.
I almost feel like this is someone who made a
short film of that and was just like, you know what,
maybe we could make this a whole movie. Because the
whole like talking to my younger self talking to my
older self thing has been done to death, but I've
(30:37):
never seen it in this way, just in the like
rapport that they have with each other, the way that
they're talking to each other, the way it's kind of
like playful, and the jokes that they're making about each other.
You know, She's like, I don't have a gap in
my tea. She's like Yay, where a retainer? Fuck you?
You know what I mean, Like just stuff like that.
You know, Like the way that they interact with each
(30:58):
other is amazing. I love that. It's like there's like
three characters in this whole movie, and I think it
like totally bucks your expectations in every single way.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Let's get into Skeleton Crew, all right, let's do it.
So Ray mentioned his nephew earlier. He's gonna make a
guest appearance on this show, and we're gonna get We're
gonna talk our general thoughts of the series so far,
and we're gonna get his thoughts. Also, Yeah, Ray, you
can go first, how you've been feeling about Skeleton Crew.
All right?
Speaker 2 (31:27):
So, like I said earlier, I don't know if this
is gonna be a hot take or not, because I
don't know like the general consensus of Skeleton Crew. I
guess we talked about it a little bit before and
you said people generally liked it, which is which is
good because I'm a huge fan of Skeleton Crew. I
guess I worried that people would be like turned off
(31:49):
by the opening of it because the first episode of
Skeleton Crew, like the thing that I liked I feel
like maybe there might be people out there that don't
like but I don't know. When it opened up and
it was just like basically an Earth type planet, like
these kids are going to school. They're riding their bikes
and shit, like they're on the school bus. I was like,
what is I've never seen Star Wars like this, you know,
(32:10):
and I'm imagining like a bunch of like nerds raging
about it like this is not what this is, not
what Star Wars is. But I was like, this is sick,
Like what's going I want to know more about this place,
what's going on? You know, so I won't get too
much into you know, obviously you've probably already done the
opening episodes, but I was into Skeleton Crew from the start.
(32:32):
I think it's really cool. I think Chewed Law is
awesome in it, you know, like I think it's it's
such a fun show. And it's almost like Star Wars
if it was like the Goonies, you know, like it's
it's just so it's so fun. I don't really know
any of the characters' names, you know, I'm not too
good with him, but like I love that little alien kid,
(32:54):
you know, Like I think he's awesome. I think it's
gonna be I think it's gonna be great, and I
can't wait to see where it goes from here. That's
that's my general general thoughts on the show is, Yeah,
I hope everyone likes it in general because I think
it's a lot of fun. And also I want to
make sure to mention this, like I think a lot
of people get really wrapped up in they want Star
(33:16):
Wars to be this like serious thing, Like Star Wars
is cool and intense and serious, and like, I think
Star Wars is at its best when it's just like
a fantasy thing for kids, you know what I mean.
Like that is Star Wars at its absolute best. Like
I know people really love like and Or because they
(33:36):
talk about how like grounded and serious it is. I
like a lot of Star Wars shows I didn't finish
and Or I watched like the first couple episodes, didn't
finish it. I know, I know people love it, you know.
I watched the first couple episodes of Ahsoka, didn't finish it,
and I was like hype on Ahsoka, Like I love Ahsoka,
you know, and I like I was so pumped when
she showed up at Mandalorian. I was like, I like,
(33:57):
I'm a big I'm more of a Rebels fan than
a Clone Wars fan, Like I have all the Rebels
like Blu Rays, so like I love her and you know,
I think she's like fucking awesome. And so I was
really pumped for Ahsoka because also they had the characters
from Rebels in it. And I don't know why, I
just never I just watched, like the first couple episodes,
didn't finish it. But that said, Skeleton Crew has got
(34:20):
me coming back every week. I'm watching all of them
because I think it's just like the whimsical Star Wars
that I liked when I was a kid, you know,
like whether or not you think this or not, Like
that's what the original Star Wars movies were, Like the
Star Wars movies that you watched when you were a kid.
You liked them because you were a kid, and they
were like whimsical. They weren't that serious. They it wasn't
(34:41):
like hard sci fi, you know, like it was just
fun fantasy movie. And so I think this is like
Star Wars at its best. That's that's how I feel about.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
It, one hundred percent. It really is it feels like
a fresh new take but still has that like the
pure essence of what Star Wars should be. Think. I
think it just proves that when you get someone who
comes in with a plan and then like a complete story,
it'll pay off. Because like John Watts, the guy who
did the Timlin Spider Man trilogy, did the Old Man,
(35:13):
he did Wolves. That was the Brad Pitt and George
that came out. Yeah, I watched, like the dude just
knows how to direct, and I think he's kind of
weirdly underrated even though he's done so much big stuff.
I think he's like severely underrated, and I think this
is kind of putting some like respect on his name,
which I like, And I don't know, it's just like
(35:37):
it's so cool. And he even talked about how casting
these kids, he made sure he wanted to cast actual kids,
so the kids aren't trying to act, they're just being kids.
And it shows so much in this show, because you
know how it's gotten a lot better over the past
couple of years. But some kid actors are so bad, right,
(36:00):
they just feel like they're so natural, and like episode
six is like a really good example of them kind
of coming together and becoming their own found family, which
is obviously another big pillar of Star Wars is found family.
So it's been so cool to see. But go get
your nephews. I want I want to hear his take.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
I'll grab Yeah. I think he's the target audience for this,
So this is going to be the real, the good thing.
Share the microphone here, but this is this is Jackson.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Hello, glad to have you here. I'm excited to hear
what you think about Skeleton Crew.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Very interesting. I like how towards the end, how he
like betrayed all the kids. Then they're left to do
stuff on their own, so like they didn't so they
kind of also had to learn how to doce.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Like stuff for their self. I think it was cool
to see, kind of like it was the KB and
Fern thing you know in episode six where you see
them both kind of learning to be on their own
and then also learn to be better together.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Yeah, and how they burnt the fragments, like to replace
the chip in the back of her head so she
would stay. I thought that was pretty cool how they
did that.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
It was stressful for me. I was like, don't let
this little girl. It was like I can't take this.
They let something bad happen to this poor little girl.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
But see, but see, I think this is cool. I
think I think Jackson's take on this is so different
than anything that we would say, you know what I mean, Like, yeah,
you know, like he's just like these are the cool
things about Star Wars. It's like I like when they
started doing things on their own and when they fixed
that girl's head, you know, like, and I think that's
what matters here for real, you know what I mean,
(37:43):
Like this is yeah, this is this is a show
for kids Like Jackson. I totally think it's like I
can go on a whole rant about how this is
what Star Wars could be, but I'll never have that
perspective of like how cool it is that they make
the mold to fix the thing in her head.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Did you like how they took over the ship and
then how they kind of it was almost like a cocoon, uh,
like releasing a new version of the ship for them.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Actually I rewound that part when I watched it, and
I was like, did it just turn into an X wing?
I was like, there's something about when it flew away.
I was like is this an X Wing? Like I
was like, that would be so cool.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
You know, it kind of looked like the X Men
ship to me from the Animate series a little bit, definitely, But.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Yeah, I got then I got real nerdy about it,
and I was like, no, the X Wing has a
much smaller cockpit. They couldn't have all this galley ways.
It's totally not It's totally not X Wing.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Who's your favorite character so far?
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Probably the the Blue I like, it's really funny.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
He's the biggest sweetheart in all the galaxy, and I think,
in my opinion, he's the best. I love him so much.
You are not going to know this. Bryceyles Howard directed
this episode.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
That was surprised to me when it ended and it
was like directed by Bryce Dallas Howard. I was like,
that could have been part of the show as far
as I was concerned, I was like, holy shit, it's
Price Dallas Howard.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Yeah, she's kind of become the queen of Star Wars
episode directing as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, it was crazy.
She handles like weird different situations like that. Within Star Wars.
She did like the Mandalorian episode where they encounter that
like that group of people where it looks like Mando
gets attached that one woman and stuff like that. She
handles all these kind of like interesting new perspectives that
(39:32):
I don't think you would think that you would see
in Star Wars and to see these kids kind of
rise to this level of maturity of we have no
idea what we're gonna do, and then they go on
their own directions and then they figure out that they
need to come together to solve the problem, and what
they need to do is communicate, which is such a
(39:53):
hard thing. I mean, us as adults struggle with that
on a daily basis, right of communication, and this show
is exemplifying how kids have done it, probably more better
than most of us. And I was like, man, it's
so cool to see shows like this that probably don't
need to say anything like this, but they do. And
(40:15):
I don't know, I've been in this weird situation in
my life in the last few months where I feel
like shows are teaching me things, or maybe it's just
the way I perceive them now, but I love that
a Star Wars show that's probably catered to kids, like
it's kind of reinforcing the fact that, like if something's
bothering you, You just need to talk about it. It's
(40:36):
so simple, but we ignore it constantly all the time.
We keep stuff bottled in. It's probably because how most
people around our age were kind of you know, they're
like mental health wasn't a thing back in the days.
Now it's such a big thing. It's all of us
are kind of trying to reprogram our brain to be
like we just need to talk about stuff. It's so simple,
(40:57):
but like it's what we got to do.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Absolutely. I feel like I'm at a point now where
I just feel so old, Like I've never felt old,
I don't think until this year, you know, And like
sometimes I watch things now and it affects me, like
in a really strange level.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Sometimes sometimes you find yourself in a position where you
go to see Sonic three and you're talking about it
with your girlfriend at the end of the movie, and
she goes, are you crying, and you have to go, no,
it didn't. It didn't affect me that they played Live
and Learn when Sonic and Shadow went to fight to
eclips Cannon, just like happened when I was twelve in
(41:31):
my video game. You know, like that totally did not
affect me on a strangely emotional level.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
Oh man, yeah, I feel that. But all the time
when when my wife goes, are you crying, I'm like, yep,
I sure am.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Yeah, that's that happens all the time these days and
shows I watch. Now, I'm just like, man's that's the
thing that made me feel old. I'm like, this is crazy,
you know. Like I went to Lincoln Park's first show
back in September at the in La. I went to
that and it, yeah, the first the first three songs,
I was just like kind of just crying, you know
(42:08):
what I mean, it just totally hit me. I'm just
on this weird level where I'm like looking through my
life and I'm just like, man, I remember this song
from when I was like ten, and I remember it
listening to it the same when I was like eighteen,
you know what i mean. I'm just like remembering all
the points in my life where I'm listening to these
songs and now here I am at their first show back,
you know, and I think they did a great job,
(42:28):
and yeah, I feel old. Now this is the Star
Wars Skeleton Crew. Things got heavy, heavier than it should have.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Yeah, that's that's how it goes. That is how that
is how it goes. Yeah, I do love that he
brought up Job's turn because that was a favor for me.
I am super interested because judelaw has teas that we're
gonna learn in his backstory, and now that we're kind
of like rounding the corner to the end, I'm still
curious if we're gonna see it or if he's gonna
(42:58):
say something or what, because I just need to know
if he was a Jedi. I feel like he was.
He obviously has the force. He knows how to use
a lightsaber, which was teased and then kind of forgotten
about in this episode, which that kind of bummed me
out a little. I guess if I have like one critique,
I was like if, but he might not be practiced.
You know, he could have been an Order sixty six
(43:20):
kid and he only trained a little bit, and you
know he's just been a pirate ever since and kind
of using the force to help his his pirate villainy
as he goes along. But just the way he held
it and it cut to black and he lit the lightsaber,
I was like, ah, I was waiting for like a
payoff of that in the next episode, but there wasn't,
which is fine, but I'm interested to see if that's
(43:42):
gonna take a toll later on. It also doesn't really
bother me if it doesn't. If it doesn't, if it
doesn't pertain to the story. I'm just so interested by
this character that has like six different alienses, and it
just makes sense that he was a kid who got
away from the Empire and kept changing his name so
he didn't get caught eventually like that. It just makes
(44:05):
sense to me. It just it would be cool to
see a because we've seen, like if you've played the
Jedi Fallen or video games, we've seen kind of a
kid who Survivor or sixty six and went along. You
talked about Rebels Caanaan Jaris was a kid who Survivors
sixty six and went to kind of carry on the
Jedi legacy. So it'd be kind of cool to see
someone who survived it and then just became a pirate.
(44:25):
Like that's a cool thing, and I think it's a
cool thing this series has done where it could fall
into the pitfall that like every other Star Wars series
has and had a million cameos, which I'm not going
to lie. I enjoyed because I watched all that stuff,
so I'm like, oh, yes, they're coming into live action.
That rules. But it puts you at this position where
it kind of makes the galaxy feel small, and this
(44:47):
series has made the galaxy feel massive because you're going
to all these plans you've never heard of or seen.
It's all these new characters. Like when that X Wing
first showed up in like episode three or whatever it was,
I thought for sure it was going to be the
dude from the Mandalorian and I was like and when
he didn't get out, I was like, thank god, because
there has to be more New Republics Rangers than just him.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
I agree, And even like when we were watching it, uh,
Jackson asked me, he was like, is Chewbacca in this?
And I was like, no, there's there's no like, no
one that you know is gonna is in this, and
it's pretty cool. I'm pretty much certain that whatever I
forget the pirate's name too. On in like the Hollow
video where they don't show his face, that's definitely one
(45:29):
of those kids parents whose parents do you think that
kid is?
Speaker 1 (45:35):
Because I've seen a lot of people theorizing that he
is probably whatever what do they call him, like the
overseer or whatever of the planet that.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
They haven't shown yet where they're like, oh, you know
it could it could be. I just feel like it
doesn't pay off that. Yeah, like if if it's some
character that you've that you've never seen before, that's not fun,
you know what I mean, Like have we seen the
leader of the planet or whatever. I think it's Yeah,
there's all this like bureaucratic stuff where there's like, oh,
(46:02):
he's not gonna like this, you can't do it, you know. Like,
but I think I know none of the kid's parents
talk like a pirate like that guy did. But I'm
thinking this guy like went to add add In was like,
you know what, this place is kind of dope. I'm
just gonna hang up my hat and uh and live
a nice life here.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
It might I think it's one of those kids parents.
That's that's my theory.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
I like that. I would love if it was like
Whim's dad.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm guessing.
Speaker 1 (46:33):
It's probably his dad, and then his sense for adventure
always makes sense, even though his dad just wants him
to have the most boring life ever exactly.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
That's why he's like, he's like, what did you find
out in the woods? Like what does that thing stay
away from?
Speaker 6 (46:45):
That?
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Don't go out there, you know.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
And now that we mentioned that, he didn't look surprised
by the ship, He just only looked worried that his
kid was on the ship, right. But I don't know
why he would be sneaking around with Berne's mom unless
it's a big ploy, you know. But I still like
this theory that's interesting.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
Yeah, I don't know, That's how I feel about it,
because again, I just think it's like I think the
writing on the show is really good, and I think
always with like I'm a big fan of like mysteries, right,
and you can't have a mystery where the reveal is like, oh,
the killer was this person that we met ten minutes
ago and you've been watching the whole thing, you know
what I mean. The killer has to be there from
like frame one of the movie so that you can
(47:29):
be like, you know, oh wow, I'm.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
Surprised both teams, the pirates and the kids are headed
back to and they both have the coordinates. I'm just
wondering if the pirates getting there is going to blow
up this whole secret, Like what's going to be the
consequences of an outside entity entering at you know what
I mean? Like that's like the one thing I've been
(47:52):
trying to guess is like obviously all signs are pointing
to that, but like, what's going to be the big
deal with that? Or is there going to be a
big deal? Are they gonna handle it themselves? I have
no idea.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
So six left us on a cliffhanger of what's going
to happen when they all get back to end Handan.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
I'm excited to see how it kind of turns out,
and like what kind of defenses because I feel like
if they're have tried so hard to keep us a secret,
they got to have some pretty lengthy defenses in line,
you know what I mean, Like whether the droids are
more dangerous than they seem, or I mean, if one
(48:28):
of their parents, especially when's dad was a pirate, like that,
dude's probably got some moves hidden away, you know that
he can, he can he can lay on to some people.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
But because also like let's say the dad wasn't the
main pirate. I forget everyone's name in this show. Whatever
the pirate they're they're talking about, like, I don't know,
he could have rolled up with a crew, you know,
he could have just been like an old crew member
or something like that.
Speaker 8 (48:53):
You know.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
I just feel like there's a they know a lot
more than what they're uh yeah, than what they're shown.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Yeah, there's and there's been kind of different opinions to
if the secret of that end, which I think we
kind of figured out, I imagine, is that they have
an old old Republic mint that they can just print
in limited money and things like that. I wonder if
there's any more to it, because I remember John Watt's
talking about the show having like a Stranger Things vibe,
(49:20):
which I don't really I haven't seen that yet because
obviously Stranger Things is like far more dark and you
know than the series. If like the last few episodes
are going to have like some dark turn where it's
been this super secret, super bad kind of front for something,
like a lot of people thought it was like a
(49:41):
front to like train first to order people or something.
I think that's probably a little too much, and I
don't know if i'd like that ending.
Speaker 2 (49:49):
A big spice spice laundering scheme, So what it is.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
Yeah, I don't think I would like that, but I
am interested to see if they'll kind of reveal like
why they kept it a secret or that might perfectly
tie into if one of the kids got the kid's
dads got in there or parents got in there, and
we're just like, we're gonna make this our home, We're
gonna populate it, and we're just gonna live really boring,
normal lives and just be rich for the rest of
(50:14):
our lives, like which, you know, I think it's kind
of like a pirate's dream.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Oh for sure, Yeah, that's I mean, obviously whatever, you know,
whoever the pirate is, whether it's one of their dads
or not, I think it's pretty clearly set up that
he just like showed up on ad Ad and it
was actually like I'm actually just done. I'm just gonna
hang out here. This is better than everything that I'm
doing out there.
Speaker 1 (50:36):
Yeah, Because I'm wondering if when he found at Akron
he was like, oh, there's some possibility in this, but
maybe it was like before it was a full desolate
wasteland Pentagon War, and he saw like the potential of it,
and then that's why he destroyed that one being like, oh,
this is the one that's still under wraps and kind
of went infiltrated and took over or whatever. Yeah, I'm
(50:57):
excited to kind of learn those answers and see how
the formation of the planet kind of happened, because it
is interesting because he keep switching back and forth and
you get these little tidbits of of them back home.
But I can see it coming to like a pretty
big head next week when they all kind of return,
and I definitely see Jod probably turning to save the
kids again. I mean, the dude, oh yeah, yeah, for sure.
(51:20):
You know, he's an opportunist for sure. Yeah, he's out
for him, but it does seem like he has a
little bit of a soft spot for these kids because
in that one episode he did not need to return
to save them, and he did.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
So yeah, yeah, exactly. I think it's pretty, uh, pretty
obvious conclusion to make that he's gonna like he'll be
he's gonna be a rogue type, but with a heart.
You know, he got corrupted by his greed for a
second there, but you know he's all good because even
like when he's like, all right, I challenged the captain,
like he's not just outright trying to kill the kids.
(51:55):
You know, he's like like crazy, Yeah, he's like just yield.
I don't want to do this, you know, like it'll
all be good. So yeah, yeah, I think he'll definitely
be good again. Everyone everyone likes a good scoundrel type
character that you don't know if you can trust, you know.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
Yeah, it's it's good to have layers and not be
a black and white character. Black white characters are boring.
It's nice to have some gray in there. Ray Jackson,
thank you guys for joining me and talking and all
these nerd things. Especially thanks to you Jackson, thank you
for giving your a young perspective on Skeleton Crew.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
Yeah for sure.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
What's your before we go? What's your favorite Fortnite emote?
Is that what it's called Fortnite emot? What's your favorite one?
Speaker 3 (52:40):

Speaker 1 (52:42):
I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
You heard it here first kids, Orange Justice. Orange Justice
is the popular Fortnite emo.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
Ray, before we get out here, please plug what you
got going on? Tell people where they can find you.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
Oh yeah, you know. I put out music all the time.
I think like every Thursday I got a new song
coming out. And if you go to uh, Ray hawthorn
sucks dot com. You can find all my stuff. You
can get you can buy a vinyl. I put out
my flat line music video on VHS tape recently, so
that's interesting. You know, I had the idea before Alien
(53:14):
did it. By the way, I just want everyone to
everyone to know that you can get a vinyl, you
can get a flat line music video, VHS tape, you
can get shirts. I don't really care if you buy
any of that though, as long as you listen to
my music, that's the thing I care about. So thanks
if you if you even give it a second. Thanks everyone.
Speaker 1 (53:30):
Yeah, Ray writes some super catchy, awesome music, and I'm
very happy to have him back in the show. I'm
sure this isn't the last time it'll happen, because I
like to talk to this.
Speaker 2 (53:40):

Turtles project. If you don't call me first, I'm gonna
be I'm gonna be personally offended.
