our our favorite of twenty twenty four, but Ringo suggested
he made a list of his least favorites of twenty
twenty four, so we're gonna start off with that. Ringo,
(06:07):
what do you got on your your worst of twenty
twenty four.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
This is in order from least worse to worst worse.
And before I say this, I want to say it
takes a lot to make a movie. I have all
the respect in the world for the people who made
this movie and the teams behind it. With that out
of the way, Trapp was fucking dogshit, I cannot be
(06:31):
convinced otherwise. Number three's got to be Garfield. I don't
know why I watched Garfield. My number two is gonna
be Roadhouse.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
I didn't mind that movie. I didn't think it was good.
I thought it was fine. Fine.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Here's the thing, I like Jake Jillenhall. I live in
Los Angeles, so there is quite literally a billion billboards
everywhere for this movie, and so I gave it a shot.
I watched it. It was so cringe when it could
have been not They could have the original. Roadhouse is
(07:05):
like cringe, but it like it's charming because of its era,
and it's fun to watch. It's like a cheesy, cheesy
action movie from that era. So it's a lot of fun.
This is like they were like, Okay, we're gonna make
an action movie. But instead of being fun about it.
We're gonna be like really sick about it.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
And it just it was not that.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
And number one is probably everyone's number one. It is Borderlands.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
I didn't watch that one either.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Oh my god, you don't have to.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Mostly why I haven't.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Borderlands is one of my favorite game series of all time.
I've been playing it since I was a kid. However,
many years ago they announced they were making a movie
for it. I was like, Okay, could be sick if they.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Do it right.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
The casting was just weird. It was like they had
too many famous people in the movie for you to
like like the characters because they weren't characters anymore. It
was like the actor. The script was bad. It is
as if the writer of the movie was told the
premise of Borderlands and then they tried to write a
story about it instead of just like kind of going
(08:10):
off the game.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
The fourth worst I have is Bend Him the Last Dance, which, Okay,
honestly didn't even plan on seeing this movie, and then
one of my friends was like, hey, do you want
to go see it on like a Monday afternoon And
it was probably the perfect Monday afternoon type movie. And
the movie is just like I don't know. The second
one pissed me off to no ends because I love Carnage,
(08:31):
I didn't mind. I think the first one is like
fairly okay. I think the finale is terrible, and if
you look at it like a two thousand superhero movie,
you're like, yeah, this is fun and weird and whatever.
And the second movie just like doubles down and gets goofyer,
and then the third movie at that point you're just
like over the goofiness, and when they try to get serious,
you're already over it. And just every movie is the
(08:52):
same thing. And they tried to introduce this villain from
this comic book run that I love. That he's just
really there to like set something up that will probably
never happen anyway, and it's all just so insane. It's
so crazy to have all these movies with Spider Man
villains with no Spider Man insight just makes zero.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
The Sony Spider Man Universe thing that they're trying to
do right now needs to just like be shelved, like.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
I think it's finally I think. To add to that,
I also had Madame Webb on this list, which I
know you said. Respect to everyone involved. Making it, But
I don't know if I can even say it for
this one, because there's like editing choices and like there's
so much adr in it, but like so much of
the movie is the back of people's heads. It's like
(09:35):
fucking absurd. I'm just like, how did this movie get made?
Like I don't understand it other than that. The other
two I had on were Rebel Moon Part two. I
am a Zack Snyder fan, at least his older stuff.
I guess at this point I even like Man of Steel,
even though I think he gets the the whole point
of Superman completely wrong. I like it as a movie
for the most part. What I guess we're Star Wars
(09:58):
pitches that Star Wars turned down, Like maybe you should
have took that as a que to be like, maybe
don't make these movies because they are like utterly soulless
and pointless and they do nothing with the characters. The
worst movie I saw last year was Irish Wish, which
is a rom com that was on Netflix starring Lindsay
lohand it's just very bad. I'm a big rom com guy.
(10:19):
I like a good roma, even if they're cheesy and
kind of dumb. Usually I find them somewhat entertaining. Sometimes
they surprise you and they just wreck you emotionally. I
like those two, but this one is just bad, Like
I don't know, I don't know, it's maybe it's like
the weird nostalgia in me and just like remembering like
growing up with Lindsay Lohan movies and stuff like obviously,
like Mean Girls is like a classic movie. Oh, it's
(10:41):
a great it's a great movie. Every movie she's done
for Netflix, sence and she's done three they're so bad.
But this one is the worst moving I know. More
positive note, we're gonna talk our honorable mentions before we
get into our top ten, so I'm just gonna list
mine off. So the four I picked Ron one mentions
are Monkey Man, the movie starring and directed by Deaf Patel,
(11:03):
Super Sick Movies on Prime Video right now if you
want to watch it, also on Prime Video now, Challengers,
the Luca Gwadeninian movie that just won Best Original Score
the Golden Globes. A Zendeia in it. The movie is
fucking a wild ride and probably not what you think
it is at base value. And then I had Late
Night with the Devil the horror movie starring David Dispuchin
(11:25):
that I thought was fantastic, very very cool movie. I
love the aesthetic. I loved just like pretty much everything
about it. And then this is kind of one of
those movies I was talking about. It's a rom com,
but you think it's a rom com, but really it's
this highly emotional movie and it's called Greatest Hits, and
I saw someone compare it to kind of Eternal Sunshine
on the spols Mind, but it's kind of in reverse.
(11:45):
It's basically this woman she loses her partner in a
car accident, and then she finds out that if she
plays a song from when, like a time in their
life when they were together, it takes her back in
time to that moment. So it's her trying to like
(12:07):
save him by going back in time through this music
in the moment. It's like a super cool movie and
it's super emotional and obviously deals with grief in a
very interesting way. And I feel like not a lot
of people talked about that movie, probably because it's just
got dumped on Hulu, but it is really, really, really good.
I highly recommend Greatest Hits. Sam also loved that movie too.
(12:30):
What did you have in your honorable mentions?
Speaker 2 (12:31):
I have six. My first honorable mention is Alien Romulus.
I love that movie. I love the theater experience of it.
It was just really good time your monster which also
like rom com horror vibe.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Really that's most prayer in it, right.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yes, yes, it was like so fun and like seeing
it in a theater again, it's like a good like
date night movie. It's just it's a lot of on
milk and cereal, which is a YouTube short film serial
spelled like serial killer. Really good. I'm not gonna say
a single thing about it, except you need to go
(13:11):
watch it and watch until the video, like from the
second it starts to the second it ends, like phone on,
do not disturb. It is really good. Number three Driveaway Dolls.
I had a lot of fun watching that. I know
it wasn't a lot of people's favorite movie, but I
loved it. I thought it was a lot of fun.
(13:32):
Number two Civil War. I thought that movie was great.
It was like their use of sound in that movie
was so good because like every gunshot in that movie
was so intense. And my Number one is Strange Darling,
which I actually just watched. Oh that's a good, really good.
It was a lot of fun but also bleak.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
I loved it. I thought it was a great time.
Those are those are.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Mentioned A few of those in my top ten.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Oh sick.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
So we'll get to more of those once we get there. Yeah,
civil War I probably would have put on my arm
will mentions too. I think I was mostly I think
I did the thing where I was trying to pick
out some movies people might have overlooked. But Civil War
was fucking great. I saw twice in theater.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
I yeah, I loved it. It was such a fucking
loud movie just.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
From the jump. All right, top ten? So what do
you got? Number ten? My number ten? It's gotta be
Sonic three. I still haven't seen Sonic three, and I'm
kind of mad about it. You're fucking it's really I
heard it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I would have never expected this movie to end up
as high as it did. And when you see the
rest of my list, you're gonna be like what. But
I was such a huge Sonic fan as a kid,
like that was like one of my all time favorite
game franchises. I played just about everyone when I was
a kid. Sonic Adventure two and Shadow the Hedgehog were
(14:56):
like my two favorites. And this movie specifically is like
you are mixing Sonica Venture Too and Shadow the Hedgehog
and making a movie.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Of it, and it was just like so fun.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
There were so many references, but they didn't feel forced,
like it was like it felt natural. And the theater experience.
I saw it the day before it came out in
theater and it was like everyone in the theaters wearing
their like Shadow merch and like the theater was getting
like they had like these like hat things that you
put on and it's like the characters and it's like
(15:31):
it was just such a good experience and like it
was a lot of fun and like it's cheesy. It's
a kid's movie. You feel like a kid when you're
watching it, and it like affected me in that way
that I was like, this is like I have to
put it in my top ten.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
That's the best. And honestly, I didn't even watch the
first two until last year, and I remember we were
in a hotel and then it just came on, so
we just watched it, and Sam and I are both like,
this movie is like really good, Like what, yeah, what
is that what is this.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Jim Carrey is like so good in those movies. It's
crazy so good, and like they couldn't have picked a
better actor for that role. I am so forever grateful,
and listen, I don't condone vullying, but I am so
grateful that people bullied the studio into making Sonic look good.
(16:24):
And I'm even more grateful that ugly Sonic was adopted
into a different world and he's he's safe in the
arms of Chippendale.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
So nuts, dude. My number ten is we live in time.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
The I haven't seen it.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
The A twenty four, which I know in A twenty
four said rom Com. It's like, in quotes rom Com,
because the movie is fly devastating.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I've heard everyone who has recommended that movie to me
has been like, it's really good. It's gonna just you.
And so I just haven't watched it yet.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Yeah, it's a lot, for sure, So I get it.
It's like a super sad movie, but it's just Andrew
Garfield and Florence Pugh just acting their fucking asses off
for an hour and a half. Phenomen to Their chemistry
is off the fucking charts. They tell it, it's all
out of order, which is cool because I like the
way it kind of goes back and forth, and just
like the main premise is that Florence Pugh's character gets
(17:25):
diagnosed with cancer and it's them dealing with that throughout
time and you see the meat, you see them like
it's it's a It's a beautiful but destructive movie.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Any cancer movie, like any movie that revolves her own cancer,
Like it destroys me every time.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Sam's mom went through cancer, so
it's like anytime there's anything like that. Like even even
thor Love and Thunder got me because of the whole
Jane and cancer storyline. I was like that, Yeah, like
the conversation he has with her in the hospital, like
I saw that conversation happen. Gets fucked. But yeah, this
movie is just it's a lot. It'll end up on
Max eventually for sure, but I'm kind of sad it's
(18:07):
definitely probably not going to get any love Oscar wise
or reward wise for their performances, because I think both
their performances are unbelievable and so so so good. But
it's been kind of a crazy year for those kind
of performances, so I guess I get it, you know,
go check it out if you want to be emotionally destroyed.
That's my And then my number nine is Alien Romulus,
(18:30):
which you had on your same thing as you like.
I just I'm a I like Frediavarez, you know, like
what he did with the Evil Data remake. It was
so good, you know, taking such a kind of like
cult classic and making it different but still feel true
to it what it was. And I think it did
the same thing with Alien. You know, it feels like
(18:50):
Alien and Aliens mixed together with a modern twist, and
it's fucking great. There's a zero gravity as the scene.
That's like one of the coolest scenes I saw in
the theater this year.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
They made Alien scary, which is like cool because for
so long, like I love the Alien franchise, I love
the Predator franchise. I know they go hand in hand,
but they just the movies have just not been There
was just a lack of quality. Yeah, and this one
(19:22):
was so good. And it was the most quiet I
have ever heard a theater at the beginning my theater,
like you can hear a pin drop.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
It was ridiculous, dead quiet in that being in that
movie fantastic stuff. You haven't watched anything Hymes. It's not Hulu,
so go watch it.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Yeah, you need to watch it.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Would you have a number nine?
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Number nine is terrifier three.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I'm gonna be honest with you. I cannot get into
these movies. I've tried.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Here's the thing. Plot. I don't really care the story whatever.
The story's fine, it's it's the story is just there
as a tool to drive the movie. Yeah forward. The
one thing I will say and the reason it's not
higher on this list. These movies are way too fucking long.
But the practical the practical effects in the movies are
(20:09):
so impressive and so well done, and it's just it's
over the top. And it knows it's over the top.
It knows how ridiculous the idea of like chainsawing someone
in half is doing forbidden stuff with a shard of glass.
They know how over the top and ridiculous it is,
and they just feed into it, and I just I
love love what they're doing with it. It had to
(20:32):
make it on the list just the effects alone. I
have so much respect for the movie.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I have respect for Damian Leone and everything he does
because I've watched the first one, and I've watched pretty
much half of the second one. It's just not my thing.
It's not that I hate it, it's just like I
can't get into it, and it's people are into it.
But I think he's created a modern horror icon in
Art the Cloud. Oh absolutely a song around him, Like
(20:59):
that's fun. Increasing Like that's so insane and so cool
and I'm glad he did something like that, like that,
that is rad. And because I watched the first one
and I was like, the first one has zero plot.
There's no plot.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Oh, it's literally not a plot in that movie.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Just killing people. That's that's it. But I walked away
being like I didn't really like that movie. But wow,
Art the Clown is something like the way his performance
and he carries that, I'm like, fuck, yeah, that dude
is awesome. And then I'm kind of just like trying
to make my way through the second one. And it's
not that I like I hate it, it's just like
it's they're really gross. They're gross fucking movies.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah. The third one is where I know a lot
of people tapped out. Some people that I know and
like friends of mine have tapped out of the third one,
So it's not just like marketing stuff. Like I feel
like a lot of people are like, oh, it's just marketing,
but I'm like, no, I've I've I've seen people like
leave the theaters during these movies, like because it is
it is gross. It's it's over the top. A two
(21:55):
and a half hour long movie or whatever that's like
just gore Some people just I don't want to see
that for that long, which I get, but I loved it.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Would you have a number eight?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
My number eight is in a violent nature.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
I watched this movie too, Yes, and you probably have
some things to say about it as tire Fire III.
I just found this is my problem with this movie.
Some of the kills are so sick, like the one
kill everyone knows, the one kill you if I seen
it on TikTok and stuff. That kill is like wild
and was worth watching the movie alone. And the premise
is a really cool idea. I just don't think it
(22:29):
was executed in a very good way in my opinion. Yes,
and there is a scene where this random guy comes
in and he does this like minute long lore drop
and then he's just gone and there's no other talks
of said lore in the rest of it, and I
think that's what killed the entire movie for me, because
you either keep it completely in the dark and don't
(22:52):
explain shit, or you just explain it like you or
you gotta find a good middle ground and they just
like in the middle of the movie, like, I feel
like someone even though it was like it was released
through IFC Films, which is part of like Shutter, It's
it's like a same with Late Night with the Devil.
I feel like someone was like, hey, you need to
put something in here to explain something or yeah, like
(23:14):
that's how it feels because it feels so out of
pocket in random scene was ridiculous. Yeah, you're just like
it was so long and it was so like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
I agree, it was long. It felt really long. I
liked it. I liked what they were doing. I enjoyed
how not Like it wasn't Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it
wasn't like Friday the thirteenth. It was like such its own,
like it's just atmosphere, there's no music. It's just like
(23:48):
you're watching this dude walk for like an hour, and
it's something about it. I was I walked out of
it and I was like, that was sick, Like I
liked what they did there. Now I will say this,
it is in my top ten. I only gave it
a three on letterbox, but I really like It's one
(24:09):
of those movies that the more I the more I
sit with the movie, the more I'm like, that was cool,
Like it was they took a chance and they did
what they did. You can tell there was no budget
in that movie. But oh, for sure, I loved it.
I loved just the atmosphere of the whole thing, like
I was really into it.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
My number eight is The Brutalist.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
I haven't seen it, but I've heard nothing but good things.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
I can see it going either way with people, because
I think now it's just getting mine releases, like it's
been out in LA for a while. I got to
see it like a few months ago at a screener,
and it's basically the story of like an Art Deco
Jewish architect who comes to America through like the German influence,
Like he feels like his work is like wrong, and
(24:55):
he comes to America and then he sees that like
some people find out who he is, and then his
work gets appreciated and it's it's an almost four hour
long movie. There's a built into emission. It's a lot
to ask, yeah, but it is. It is like a
generationally defining performance by Adrian Brody, Like, yeah, the Oscar.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
He's like winning awards for it right now, which.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Oh yeah, he won the Golden Globe, the director won
Best Director, the movie won Best Drama, and the Oscars
are probably gonna fall suit for sure.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
It just like I don't know that I wish the
second half was as good as the first half, because
the first half is like so enthralling, and it's the
first half is basically like giving the false promise of
the American dream, and the second half is showing you,
like the reality of the sham of an American dream.
In the second half it gets borderline pretentious in a way,
(25:50):
but then the way it wraps up, you're like, oh, okay,
I get it, and it's it's it's really moving. It's epic.
But I don't think it's gonna be fair everyone. I
feel like it's like almost not as approachable Oppenheimer in
a lot of ways, because that has a lot of
similar vibes with it. It's a fucking feet of nature
that movie. It is great. I recommend going to see it,
(26:11):
especially if you're kind of a fan of I guess.
I don't know historical dramas, I guess, but it's.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Really good movie.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Yeah, yeah, film, Yeah, if you're a fan of film, definitely.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
As you said, there's a built in intermission, which I
think more movies need to start doing, because I agree.
I loved The Batman, but come on, I got a
piece sometime.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
I would having a built in a fifteen mirror mission
was fucking dope. I loved it. I was like, this
is great, and it gives you like it's so cool
to see people, Like you're walking out of this theater
and people are talking about the movie. You're like, oh
my god, it's like it like sparks this weird, like
mid conversation about the movie that I thought was just
so cool and exciting. And then my number seven was
(26:57):
Strange Darling, which again you had on your Honorable mentions.
And I went into this totally blind. I just heard
about it, like I saw people on Twitter talking about
it and hyping it up, and then eventually I watched
it and rented it for five bucks. I don't want
to even say anything about it because I've talked about
it on the show numerous times since I've seen it.
(27:17):
But it's basically like a love layer to Quentin Tarantino.
It is so and it's awesome. I love it. I
love it that and it takes you on some wild
turns you do not expect. And that's what like really
impested me in this movie. I was like, I was like,
holy shit, I did not see any of this coming. Whoa.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
This is one of those movies that as soon as
I watched it, I was like, I cannot wait to
watch this at New Beverley, like when it when they
show it there, because like it's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
But what did you have a number seven?
Speaker 2 (27:49):
My number seven is one of your honorable mentions and
it is Late Night with the Devil.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Nice. I love that movie. I'll put this out as
a disclaimer. I understand the controversies.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Of it, but the AI stuff.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Yeah, just as a movie, it is so good. The
like atmosphere of it and the way it was shot,
like it felt like they did it really well. They
did the like old late night talk show very well.
Like it didn't feel like yeah, it didn't feel like
a fake movie. Version of a talk show, like it
felt like you were watching this shit happen, and it
(28:23):
had such a like adult swim vibe to it that
I was just so into the whole time. Like the
effects were so like bizarre and it was just it
was fun. It was it was really good. The performances
were phenomenal in that movie. I loved it.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
David smashin the fucking man. I love seeing him have
like a lead role. That's like, oh, he was one
of my movie because obviously he's been like minor roles
in so many movies, like in so many great movies.
But to see him take center stage and quite literally
and just fucking own it, it was awesome. Would you
have a number six Dune too? I have that on
(29:01):
my list, but it's number one.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Oh yeah, Dune too. I I fucking loved this movie.
Like I love Star Wars, love Lord of the Rings,
love like fantasy stuff like this, and Dune was just
like so good and I felt like this like the movie,
like the first Dune movie was kind of like it
felt like it was setting up the franchise, like it
(29:25):
didn't feel like a fool movie on its own. But
then Dune two, I was like, this is perfect. Like
the cinematography of it is like phenomenal. There's one scene
and I I can't remember it, but they're like they're
in like a dust cloud or something like that, and
it's like the screen is like completely like dark. Well
you can like still see the characters. It's like that
(29:47):
scene specifically, I was like, this is phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Greg Frasier, that dude is un real. Yeah, so good.
I love that movie.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Like I yeah, I thought it was amazing.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
It's crazy. It's been my number one since it came
out in March and it has not had any chance
of moving like since since. And I kind of as
soon as I saw it, I was like, oh my god,
I can't believe. Like danevil knew, I think is one
of the best directors of our lifetime possibly ever, Like
the dude just knows how to make a movie. And
(30:18):
I've heard it because obviously he's closing out his trilogy
of Dune with Doune Massai, which covers the second book.
The part one of Part two covered the first book,
and there's talks of like them moving on after and
I'm so worried because I don't think anyone Besides, Christopher
Nolan could make these movies. And I don't think Christopher
Nolan is going to pick up on a fourth of
(30:39):
a franchise when he's off doing the craziest shit known
to man by himself. And I'm just like, I don't
think there's anyone that can do what Genevil who does
with these movies. And point has poopen with the Dune series,
because while I think it was a fine series, it
did not feel like Dune, which was my biggest problem.
My number six was along the same lines as The Postal,
(31:00):
a movie that deals with a lot of sand thriosa.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
I didn't watch that one.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I'm part of the problem. I didn't see in the theaters.
I watched it when it came out of Max, even
though I love Mad Max Fury Road. And the thing
that's cool about this, you know, like a lot of
people shit on sequels and prequels and reboots and whatever,
but this movie was pretty much already written when he
did Mad Max Fury Road, Like he pretty much this movie.
He like handed it to Charlie's Tern and goes, here's
(31:24):
your past. So it's not even like a thing of oh,
they're just doing as a cash grab. I mean obviously not.
The movie flopped, which sucks because the movie is fucking awesome.
It's like the perfect like sci fi revenge action film.
Andy Taylor Joy is amazing as you would imagine. It
feels like the same character. It kind of leads right
(31:46):
into mad Max Stuery road in a really cool way.
And to see Chris Hemsworth as just this like disgusting,
terrible villain rocks, it's so dope. He is having the
time of his life.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
It's been on my watch list for a while and
I just like haven't watched it yet.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
And so I need to I need to fix that.
It's great. It's honestly so awesome. I I am mad
at myself for not seeing it in the theater because
that that movie is deserved of a theater experience. It
was so so good and like it feels like you're road,
Like it feels like a like the story that leads
into your road. It's awesome, and it like spans time
(32:25):
in a cool way, and it's just has some really
wild action shots in it that you're like, how the
fuck did they film this? Like what the fuck? This
is awesome? This is so sick so yeah, go on
for RECV. I watch it's IX. It's right there, going
into top five. My number five is Long Legs. I
know this is kind of a controversial movie, and not controversial.
(32:45):
It just seemed people loved it or hated it. There
was no in between people who loved.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
The movie or I did not watch it.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
I'm sorry you didn't watch it.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
It was no. It was one of those that I
It's been on my watch list and I just I
have not picked it up yet.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
I feel like you would probably love this movie.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
People who know me that have suggested it have been like,
you will love this movie, and I just haven't watched
it yet.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
I think the main problem with the marketing of this movie,
even though the marketing of this movie was so fucking cool,
is that they called it the scariest movie of all time,
and the movie is not scary at all. It's a
serial killer.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Movie, which that never worked. They need to stop doing that.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
It's like seven, you know, it's not It's not this
overtly scary movie. It's kind of creepy and unsettling at
I'm sure, but it's not scary at all. Like I
kind of hate that they call this scary because it's
not that at all, but it's really fucking dope. Like
I fucking love this movie, and it's a movie that
the more you think about it, the more you're like,
(33:46):
oh my god, this movie is so smart. I haven't
rewatched it yet, but I know upon rewatch it's only
going to get better because I've definitely watched videos where
they kind of like break down how they hinted at
certain things throughout the movie and stuff like that, and
I'm like, dude, this movie mo fucking rocks.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
My Number five is Maxine. I know this movie did
not do it for a lot of people, but it
did it for me. I loved X, I loved Pearl,
I loved Maxine. Like I know, Maxine is definitely the
weakest of the three, but I loved it so much.
I love the style they were going for, not to
like sound, you know whatever, but like it kind of
(34:23):
has like that almost like Giallo film to it, or
like Giallo like film vibe to it, which I was
like really into. It kind of did fall apart at
the end. I will acknowledge that, but I just I
loved it so much. Stylistically, I thought it was like
so fun more than anything. It is fun. It is
like a fun movie. It was fun in the theater
(34:44):
and I had a great time. I thought it wrapped
up the wrapped up the trilogy just fine. Definitely, Like
I said, it's definitely the weakest, but I loved it still.
I thought it was great.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Yeah, that one kind of disappointed me a bit because
I also I love X and Pearl. I was hoping
it would kind of reach the level of X that
it never does. I kind of I like how it
continues the story, like that part makes sense.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
I think it was just the tone that killed it
for me, very Hollywood.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
I hated how it was kind of goofy in one
scene and then super serious in the next scene. Like
that stuff kills me.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
It did.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
It did shift a lot, and I guess that was
the point. And I respect High West for kind of
making this trilogy and kind of pushing them into their
own sub genres of horror. I think that's like super cool.
I just I just wish it was more like X
tonally and like stylistically, and I think I would have
liked it so much more because I think the way
the story continued was interesting and cool. It's just that's
(35:42):
that's what that's what killed. I mean me a goth
is incredible, and I do think a lot of the
people they cast in it were like bait, like Halsey
and even one Carlos Mesito and kind of even Kevin Bacon.
It's just kind of like I felt like they filled
it with names, to fill it with names rather than
just have like characters, and I think that bummed me too.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
They were definitely making like a Hollywood movie with this one.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Keeping on the horror train. My number four is The
Substance and now Golden Globe winning. I watched this like
pretty late. It was on streaming. I missed it in
theaters because I don't even think it was in theaters
at least near me that long.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
It was very short in theaters.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Yeah, I did a movie free trial and watched it,
and it kind of blew me away. I yea, you know,
the point of it is pretty in your face and
easy to figure out. But I think the way they
explored it was super cool, and as both of us
as designers, the way they had like the like the
title cards and like the packaging of the substance, so
(36:47):
it was so dope. I was like this fucking ritz.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
And the thing is is, like my girlfriend I watched
it with her at the movies and she's in like
the beauty industry and stuff, so she's getting a lot
of like the new like beauty product and everything. And
the packaging and the way they like presented everything in
that movie was like so like like, yeah, that looks
like a box that would show up at our house.
Like it's so like accurate, I guess, and just like stylistically,
(37:20):
I thought the movie was like phenomenal. I thought the
tone of it, like from beginning to end, I thought
the tone was perfect. I thought the effects, the like
body horror of it was like ridiculous. It was like
so good and so like eerie to watch, Like, I
don't know. There's a lot of controversy regarding the end
because it turned a lot of people off because of
(37:40):
how bizarre it gets. Fuck you, I thought the end
was phenomenal. I thought that end was so good. I
thought it was so good.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
I thought it was so so dope, and even the
closing scene of how the opening, the opening scene is
such a good way to put you into this world
and show you exactly where we are in the story
of the main case character, and the closing scene was
fucking flawless to me, Like, I fucking loved it. And
it's so weird that the finale of this and Smile
(38:10):
Too are kind of weirdly similar in a lot of ways.
I like Smile to a lot. Nami sasserformed sentence also incredible,
But I think this movie is like League, like Leagues better.
But yeah, and also it is so fucking sick to
see a body horror movie get awards attention. It's so
unheard of. And I love that Demi Moore won the
(38:31):
Golden Globe and she's probably gonna win the fucking Oscar,
which is like so insane to say that Demi Moore
might win an Oscar for a body horror movie.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
That is, It's so crazy.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
The amount, the amount, like the way this movie turned
off so many people with just how like bizarre and
gross and weird it is, and like stylistically how strange
it is to watch and stuff, and it is still
getting all this praise is like so fucking cool to see.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
It's amazing, and I hope it changes kind of like
the zeitgeist of horror because it's like, if you think
about like when Hereditary came out, Like Tony Kleet should
have gotten nominated for an Oscar for Horitaria like she is.
I think me a Gosper Pearl should have gotten nominated
for Definitely. Yeah, I'm hoping stuff like this will change it.
Would you have a number four?
Speaker 2 (39:19):
My number four is hundreds of Beavers.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I have not seen this, but I've heard so many
good things.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
It is so fucking funny. I was laughing out loud
for so much of this movie. The bits are like
so perfectly timed. It is like you are watching a
Looney Tunes cartoon, but it's like live action. It's so bizarre.
It's so creative, Like the just the amount of like
(39:48):
creativity and effort that was put in this movie is
like insane. And it's weird because it has like almost
no dialogue. It's like a cartoon where it's like, you know,
it's like Tom and Jerry how they're just like running
around doing wacky stuff and then suddenly one of them
will be like what and like when he talks. It's
funny because they don't normally talk, and it has such
(40:08):
a good story without them having to explain anything every
time something happens. You know what's going on, because it's
just it's like a cartoon. It's not that hard to understand.
It's like this guy's trying to he's hungry, so he's
trying to capture a rabbit. The rabbits are too smart.
They keep like not falling for his traps, and so
he just keeps getting more and more cartoonish with everything,
(40:31):
and it's the whole way through. It is so funny,
Like there's constant reoccurring bits in it, and it's just like,
I love this movie so much.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
I have to watch it. I know it's on Prime,
I think right now.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
So, uh yeah, I think I watched it on Prime.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
My number three was The Wild Robot.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
I did not watch that.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Dude, this movie is unreal. It is so good. I
actually have a friend who works at DreamWorks and he
didn't work on this movie, but he was like, as
soon as the trailer came out, he was like, you
need to see this movie. It is so special. And
I texted him like right after I got out, and
I was like, that movie was like and you watched
(41:08):
the trailer and you're like, this movie's gonna crush you,
Like you know it's like it's like watching a Pixar
movie Trailier. You're like, you know, it's oh yeah, you know,
it's you know, it's not gonna be all cute and
fun like, but this movie got me way more than
I thought. It's such a beautiful movie. It's based on
a book. I know the sequels. It's it's it's a
book trilogy. So I'm guessing they're gonna make all three
(41:29):
movies because this movie did insanely well. And yeah, just
because the word of mouth, like everyone was just like,
go see, this movie's beautiful. Is so well critics too, Yeah, yeah,
it did super superl I'm actually really pissed it did
not win the Golden Globe Best Animated Series, and if
it does not win the Oscar, I'm gonna be so
upset because this movie is so fucking good, Like, yeah,
oh god, it's it's amazing. Lapiniango is the main voice
(41:52):
of the robot. Patro Mascal voices a fox, and his
performance is so fucking good. Oh. I'm just like, I
can't say high enough praise about this movie. It is
absolutely amazing and emotional and beautiful and I cannot wait
for the sequel, like I am so stow.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
I've heard people. I've heard people compare not like the
movie itself, but like the vibe, like the tone of
it is like kind of similar to Marcel Dechelle. Yeah,
I see it where it's yeah, it's like I've heard
it compared to that, which I fucking love that movie.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
Movie is amazing so soon.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
My number three is Nosparatu. Another controversial one because some
people like it's one of those movies I've I haven't
seen anyone be like this movie's fine. It's like you
either like this movie is now your entire life, or
you absolutely hate this movie. I love this movie. I
knew I was gonna love it like I love Robert Eggers.
(42:47):
I love Nosparatu. I love vampire stuff. Like my girlfriend
and I we went with like some friends to the
movie and we like dressed up to go see it
obviously like that, and I loved it. I thought visually
it was stunning. I thought all the acting was great.
One like bad thing I can say about it, Like
there was moments that I was like, all right, what
are we doing?
Speaker 1 (43:06):
But like it was it was never bad to me.
I have talked pretty poorly about this movie, but I
think people misconstrued it for hating because I don't hate it.
I was disappointed by this movie. I did not hate
this movie because I'm a Robert Eggars fan. I like
Robert Eggers stuff, and I was so hyped for this movie,
unbelievably hyped. And I will agree technically this movie is unreal,
(43:28):
like it looks amazing, and I'll give it that. I
just think Lily Ro's death performance Willem Dafoe's performance are
in the completely wrong movie. I do not feel like
they match the tone of the movie at all. And
that's what bummed me out. That's what took me out
of it. And I altill think the ending was undoubtedly dumb,
Like just if you really think about the ending, you're like,
(43:51):
that makes no sense.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
And I know, did you watch the originals?
Speaker 1 (43:55):
No, and I know it's very close to the original,
and yeah, I would say just watching those, I just
find it so dumb. I don't like when people are like, oh,
you just don't get Robert Aggors, you just don't get
gothic chorl oh, yeah, and I'm like, no, that's not
the thing. I just think some of the performance in
this movie don't fit the movie. Like the movie is
a dark, bleak like and I wanted the rest of
(44:17):
the movie to feel that way. And I just don't
feel like Lily Rose Depp's character fit that.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
Yeah, I'm kind of on the opposite and like I well, no,
I wouldn't say opposite. I just like I think I
loved the Lily Rose Depp's performance in this I thought
she was like phenomenal. And Willem Dafoe, like, he's great.
I love him to death. He's like one of my
favorite actors. He's will He's Willem Dafoe in this movie.
He's like he's just playing the character that he usually plays,
(44:44):
And so I can kind of understand that. Yeah, but
I don't know I liked it. I I just I
loved the whole vibe of it. I thought it fit
my vibe perfectly.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
I get it like I get it. I just like
I wish I saw the movie most people saw.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
That's totally valid.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
My number two, which if you would have told me
this at the beginning of the year, I would have said,
you're crazy. My number two is wicked. Oh Sam like
did theater when she was in high school. She was
super hyped for this movie. And I remember watching the
trailer and I was like, I bet this movie is good, Like,
I bet it's good. I have nothing against musicals. Some
musical movies I like a lot. Some I think are like, oh,
that was a cool movie. Like it doesn't bother me
(45:22):
either way, if it's a musical or not. I like
when movies have a good balance of it, kind of
like tic tic Boom and love Boom's incredible again, Andrew
Garfield awesome. And this is obviously based on a musical
that was based on a book. But what I did
not expect is this movie to like move me emotionally
(45:43):
and captivate me and like really suck me into the world.
Because I really knew nothing about Wicked other than like
it's a very popular, well renowned Broadway play that also
has to deal with the Wizard of Oz, and it
is kind of it's kind of like a prequel to
Wizard of Oz. And I knows as the second half
this movie comes out this year, it kind of like
adds more of that those elements into it and everything
(46:05):
are Anna Grande in this movie is like so funny,
Like her comedic timing is unreal. There's some pieces in
this movie like choreography wise that I'm like, holy shit,
what are they pulling off in this? Like this is
crazy and Cynthia Reebo as the main character is just
ungodly captivating. It's I rewatched Edvarissor Hands in the last
(46:27):
couple of years and it affected me so much because
I guess I didn't realize when I was a kid.
It's like the hardcore version of movies, you know, because
it's the one guy. It's like exactly an allegory for
what's going on with heavy music. Which I'm fine that
heavy music is going to the popular into like the
popular zeitgeist, Like I think that's fucking rad. But the
(46:47):
part of edversissor Hands where it's like they realize what
he has as special and they take advantage of it,
and then as soon as it gets too weird and
not doesn't align with them, they turn on him instantly.
And I'm sure it's gonna happen with heavy music eventually too.
We're gonna go back into the fucking h you know,
the basements and shit like that. Un full that I'll
(47:07):
enjoy our time in the limelight, but like that's also
what this movie is. There's a scene in it that
has to deal with a party. That's like one of
the most affecting, beautiful scenes I've seen in the movie.
And like a really really long time, I was like,
this is like ever sing saying, it's like X Men,
it's you know, it's like it's like all of those
things that make us feel like we're normal, you know.
It's like, that's what heavy music is, like. It makes
(47:28):
us feel normal because we find other people that are
fucking weirdos like us, and that this movie that's a
fucking popular musical like perfectly encapsulates that. The craziest thing
I saw was all these people being like I'm not
excited for this movie and they got out and they're like,
holy fuck, that was amazing.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
I need to watch it. I the reason, and this
is gonna sound harsh, but I'm only I'm only one person.
I don't have the most time in the world to
watch movies.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
Right.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
The reason why I haven't watched Wicked yet is because
the color of it is so ugly to me.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
It's I don't know if it was the trailers or something,
but yeah, I watched it in theaters. I was like,
the opening scene, You're like, whoa like this is it's
like colorful and like fantastical and everything. So I don't
know if like the trailers were like grated weird or something,
but that's like.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
It had to be because it had that same like
grading where it's just like everything is so bright and
so like it's like aggressive to look at. Yeah, but
I've heard good things, so like it's definitely one that
like I'm gonna check out.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
Would you have a number two?
Speaker 2 (48:33):
My number two is I saw the TV Glow. Okay,
all right, that movie literally had me speechless. I thought
from the beginning to the end, I thought that movie
was fucking gorgeous. And I know a lot of people
didn't like this movie. A lot of people that like
I'm close with and stuff too also were just like
I didn't get it wasn't scary, I don't care, And
(48:53):
I was like, you're missing the point. One of the
biggest like things with this movie that I think heard
it is that they were advertising it like as a
horror movie, when it's like it definitely falls into like
the horror adjacent but it's not a horror. It is
very drama esque. Yeah, I would even maybe put it
(49:13):
like in a thriller category, but like even then, it's
like it's more just drama. But I thought, like the
color the color palette of this movie was so gorgeous
and like seeing it in a theater, I was like
it was stunning. I thought every color was like so intentional.
I thought the like kind of like dual stories going
on was really cool. I thought, like the whole ending
(49:36):
scene like was so like cripplingly sad to watch.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
It was like it was so heavy.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
There was no happiness found in this movie. But I
loved it. And I like one of the most important
things to me when it comes to movies, like especially
as a musician, is a good soundtrack. And this movie's
soundtrack was so oh phenomenal. I literally listened to it regularly.
(50:05):
The story and like once you like dive into like
more of like what it's about and like what it's
trying to say and stuff like it only gets heavier.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
I love what the movie had to say. I just
didn't love the way it said it.
Speaker 2 (50:16):
I guess which Yeah, it's valid, yeah.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
But it is. It is a beautiful movie and a
super like incredibly well acted movie. Yeah, some of the
visuals in this movie are like like some of the
coolest things I've seen, like the oh Yeah, There's Still Time,
like Chalkboard on the Street, so crazy, amazing, And I
don't know if part of it was like it was
a little I don't want to say overhyped, because I
(50:39):
kind of hate overhype. Like everyone loved the movie, and
then when I finally watched it, I was like, like,
I get what it's trying to say, and I really
love that I was trying to say that. I just
wish they said it almost like more.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Of over expectations was something that hurt this movie a lot,
is like because of how hype it was. Yeah, a
lot of people were expecting some thing that it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
I thought this movie was just really good. It was
really powerful, and I think like a lot of people
who need to see it are going to see it
and it's gonna like affect.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
Them a lot. It's an important movie. Yeah, absolutely, there's
no even people who asked me about it, I'm like,
I feel like it's really important. Like I love what
I had to say. It's just like the way they
said it like wasn't for me. Yeah, but I can
appreciate the movie for what it is, and then obviously
my number one is Zoo Part two. I'm guessing your
number one is The Substance.
Speaker 2 (51:34):
Both movies are great.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
Yeah, Like The Substance like is incredible. And that was
a movie that obviously was super hyped up and it
like kind of met and maybe even exceeded in my expectation.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
I thought that the Instagram advertising was so cool for
this movie, and then when I finally saw it, I
was like Jesus fucking Christ, like.
Speaker 1 (51:52):
Yeah, it was so good. You can see how it's
going to totally fall apart, Like you're like, oh yeah,
I know it's gonna fall apart. Oh yeah, the way
it fell a part was like, oh my god, this
is awesome. And just seeing like to me, Moore's like
totally lose her mind and like be affected by you
know what Martin Qualley's version of her is doing is yeah,
(52:14):
so dope, like it is. I'm an amazing, incredible movie.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Something that I'll say about this movie, and if anybody
listening is who I am talking about, this is specifically
for you. Not everything has to exist in complete reality.
Uh yeah, it does not matter. It does not matter
that she doesn't have a Social Security number. It does
not matter that there's no record of her birth. I
(52:41):
promise you you'll be fine. The movie's really good.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
It's a movie, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Like that's a comm Like I see people on TikTok
like how could she even get a job without a
Social Security number? And I'm like, a, she came out
of someone's.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
Back, like some stuff is like when people like, oh,
that wouldn't happen to reality. I was like, yea, that's
the point of fucking movies.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:02):
But dude, thank you so m for doing this. This
is fucking yeah. Thanks for having me. Before we get
out of here, please plug what you got going on.
What Mogshot has coming up.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
