Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it is a Saturday, December seventh edition of
mets BET's. Good morning everybody, and welcome into the show.
It is a stakes action Saturday. I cannot wait, the
first one of the season. At Tampa Bay Downs. We
have the inaugural Steaks for the boys and the Sandpiper
for the ladies a little later on on the card,
and today we're going to be talking about the inaugural stakes.

(00:22):
I've got an opinion on it. I've got some ideas
about it, and I want to drop it here in
this podcast. Of course, remember to subscribe to the podcasts
that whenever I released these episodes earlier in the morning
before the card comes out, you can quickly download. And
I don't usually go over the first race of the card.
Usually I try to pick something a little later on.
But whenever I feel like there is an opportunity to

(00:46):
score or an opportunity to make a little money, I
always try to make sure that that's the race that
I focus on on this podcast in about five minutes
or less. And today we're talking about the Big One,
and I think it's because it's the most interesting race
on the car. I think you have a lot of
different ways that you can go about this, And I
want to talk about the three main contenders in my opinion,

(01:06):
in this race and how I think it all shapes
up again. The first thing we always look at, or
at least I always look at, is who's the favorite
and who is Sammy Camacho riding? And they're the same
horse in this situation. It's the six to five favorite
in the Inaugural Stakes with Donut God. Donut God looked
awesome on debut at Churchill downs in the slop, really
opened up, look really really solid, put up a good

(01:28):
speed figure as well, and Donut God going to be
tough to beat, I think in the spot if he's
able to repeat that kind of action that he showed
on the slop again at Churchill, what back in mid November,
I think that he's going to be very difficult to
beat here. And I think that you know, this is
a horse that could be on the trail for the
Kentucky Derby. You win this, If you win the Inaugural Stakes,

(01:50):
I would imagine that you start getting into that, you know,
kind of Florida Derby, Tampa Bay Derby kind of trail
where you're prepping to go on to one of those
big races, of course, in the hopes of going to
win the Kentucky Derby. This horse is well bred too,
who's a forty thousand dollars purchase excuse me, four hundred
thousand dollars purchase at the Keenland September sale last year

(02:11):
sires into Mischief and it's just a very very quality
young cult And we don't have to worry about distance
yet because it's still just a six fur long race.
And maybe Donut God ends up being just a pretty
good sprinter, maybe he ends up being the Kentucky Derby champion.
Who knows, maybe somewhere in the middle. Either way, I
think that Donut God is worth looking at, and assuming

(02:32):
he doesn't go off at like two to five, might
be worth a bet, you know. I mean, I think
that Donut God, with his speed alone, should be able
to shake off a lot of just the weaker competition
here in this race. But there are a few other
horses that I want to take a look at, and
let's go just to his outside with the number seven
Taper's Valor who Taper's Valor debuted in April at Keenland

(02:54):
and a lot of times whenever I see those two
year old horses that are debuting at Keenland, you never
really know what you're going to expect from them. Some
of them are really you know, geared up and they're
ready to go, and then you never see them again
after they maybe win in April. And this horse did
not win in April. It was just a young, young
two year old in one of those baby races and
Tyler gaffleone wrote him and moved up a little bit

(03:16):
at the end, but didn't really show all that much.
Came back and at Keenland again in October. So had
a couple of months. You have six months to grow
a little bit and mature, and then has a very
nice win. I like the look of Taper's Valor, you know,
being able to be up on the engine and hold
off the oncoming runner in d Bigelow, who I think

(03:37):
is going to be a decent horse, and then very
bold ran third won his next race out. So I
like the look of Taper's Valor. The problem is it's
the second speed here. Obviously Donut God is going to
be up on the engine, up on the lead. Tapers
Valor also probably going to be up on the lead.
Is it fast? Enough to keep up with Donut God.
I don't know Donut God's only run one time. Maybe

(04:00):
Taper's valor is hard to tell. At five to one,
probably gonna float up a little bit more. I think
Taper's valor is definitely worth looking at. And then, okay,
I've mentioned two horses that will be up on the lead.
Who's gonna be sitting just behind the leaders though maybe
able to pounce in the stretch. And I like the
look of the number three Naughty Rascal, and Naughty Rascal
is going to be my bet of this is the

(04:22):
Mets bet of the day. Naughty Rascal looked really, really quality.
I thought in the Proud Man a game effort able
to hold off a very tough classic, of course, and
was what eight to one on that day ran a
ninety two Brison at number I like that going six furlocks.
Then they stretched him out to a mile and he

(04:43):
ran third in a stake again a non graded steak,
but still ran third, trying to go longer. Maybe not
quite there yet, Maybe he's not a horse that wants
to go that full mile. And then they ended up
putting him on the turf for a mile and he
ends up winning, So this is a quality horse one
now two steaks race is one on dirt, one on turf,

(05:03):
and I think the owners and the connections are just
trying to figure out where are we gonna go with him,
So they're gonna put him back in a six fur
long sprint. And maybe he's not a Kentucky Derby horse.
I don't think Naughty Rascal is. He hasn't really showed
me that he's a Kentucky Derby contender here early on.
But that's okay. There's a lot of money to make
in non graded Steaks action, in sprints, things like that,

(05:26):
and he could be a graded Steaks winner sprinting one day.
Who knows, Maybe he's a graded stakes winner on turf
one day. Very promising future for Naughty Rascal. I like
the running style as well. He's not gonna be way
in the back of the pack. He's gonna be up
closer a little bit, but maybe not caught in a
bit of a speed duel between Donut God and Tapers Valors.
So I think Naughty Rascal three to one on the

(05:47):
morning line if we can get that, fine, if it
drifts up a little bit to four to one, five
to one something like that. I think that is a
fantastic play again Donut God. I'm gonna be root for
Donut God, love the name, love the debut, and it'd
be cool to see, of course in the Inaugural Stakes,
maybe Kentucky Derby hopeful, but look on one race, I
don't know. Again, I don't really like with these two

(06:09):
year olds, just throwing everything on one of them at
four to five, at three to five, whatever Donut God
goes off at. So good luck wherever you go here
in the Inaugural Stakes. A lot of great two year
old action at Tampa Bay on Saturday. And then I
want to take a look real quick at the Sandpiper too.
This is a longer episode, but I'm going to give
you a stable duol pick that I really like today,

(06:31):
and that would be the number nine Andrea going from
the outside with Sammy Camacho a board for Safie Joseph.
I think that this horse is going to be very,
very competitive in this race, and at seven to two,
it's not going to break the bank as far as
your stable duel rosters are concerned. So I would consider
looking at the number nine horse in race eight as well.

(06:51):
And I mean that horse ran in the Myrtlewood at
Keenlin last time, ran a well beaten sixth. But before that,
just womped in the Hallandale Beach at Gulf Stream back
in September one, easily on debut. I think that this
horse now back in the Florida, you know Ranks, I
think is going to be very competitive in this non
graded steak in the Sampiper for the Phillies should be

(07:13):
a fun one. I'm going to be playing all day.
I've got like a broadcast for some college basketball later
today as well, and I'm getting this out a little earlier,
so if there are any scratches, well I'm sorry. But
with that everyone, good luck on Saturday. We'll see you
next week on Wednesday as we pick up more Tampa
Bay Downs action right here on Mets Bets. Good luck everyone,
