Speaker 1 (00:24):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Michael, that man over there is talking to himself.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Hey Mike, Hey, Mikey, you want it on a telephone?
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Sure, Mike, I was doing anything for my god fund.
Speaker 6 (00:45):
You know that.
Speaker 7 (00:46):
Good to see you, Mike.
Speaker 8 (00:47):
This wasn't enough time.
Speaker 9 (00:48):
Michael wasn't enough time. Michael was only business. I always
liked him.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Michael.
Speaker 7 (00:54):
Excuse me, Michael.
Speaker 10 (00:55):
We're bigger than us steel Mikey, How are you okay?
Speaker 9 (00:58):
I haven't got a lot to say.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Michael did this and Michael did that.
Speaker 11 (01:04):
Michael, I'd like to stay close to home.
Speaker 9 (01:06):
Now just consider this, mind last one, just considerable.

Speaker 10 (01:15):
That's where Mike. Congratulations.
Speaker 7 (01:17):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.
Speaker 10 (01:20):
Good morning world, Good morning Michigan. A a very pleasant
Wednesday to you. It's Michael Patrick Shields from the end
of the road, at the top of the world, where
a tail well calculated to keep you in suspense. We
get your hump day Wednesday. Turkey on the road. One bite,
everyone knows the rules, another one. We have another day
(01:44):
of broadcasting here from Virtuoso Travel Week, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Virtuoso dot com can take you anywhere in the world
you want to go, including Anchorage, Alaska, if you wanted to. Well,
let's see, it's one hundred and twelve degrees in Las Vegas.
I wonder what the temperature is in Anchorage, and I
(02:05):
wonder if the heat will be on when President Trump
meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska later this week.
You remember, the United States purchased the Alaskan territory from
Russia over one hundred and fifty years ago, so it's
kind of interesting that there will be a summit between
Trump and Putin and they're going to talk about ending
(02:26):
the war in Ukraine, and so that will be very dramatic.
There's been talk about it being a listening visit, which
with sort of lower expectations, wouldn't it. But we'll see
what happens. And we've been wondering, you know, where they
were going to meet. We'll talk about some of those
possible destinations, but it's Alaska. That's where it will be
a long way from Washington, d C. Where homeless people
(02:49):
could face jail time. President Trump's going to have a
crackdown on crime in the nation's capital. His press secretary
said that homeless people will be given the option to
leave encampments and taken to shelters, but if they refuse,
they could be hit with fines or jail time. How
do you find a homeless person, That's what I'd like
(03:09):
to know. And how do you jail somebody when they
haven't committed a crime? Well, vagrancy, I guess is a crime,
but I don't know if it's punishable by jail time.
Hey could be bluster. We'll talk, we'll see. It seems
like a house without a key, pardon the pun But
this comes after President Trump announced that the Washington DC
Police are being placed under federal control to try to
(03:32):
get a hold of the situation. Crime has been terrible
in Washington, DC for a long time now, and he's
trying to do something about it. They won't be sent
to Alligator Alcatraz. A federal judge today is going to
decide if operations and construction can resume at that detention
center in Florida. There the judge previously ruled in favor
of an environmental advocacy group called for a shutdown of
(03:55):
the facility untill they see if an environmental study can
be completed. State officials here in Michigan are looking at
their next step speaking of the environment, after the US
Environmental Protection Agencies said they are ending the seven billion
dollars Solar for All grant program. What was that, Well,
Michigan was obligated to get over one hundred and fifty
(04:18):
six million dollars from the grants for rooftop solar, community
solar energy storage and more, and the Department of Environment
in Great Lakes and Energy Director Phil Rouss is working
with the Attorney General's office on what to do now
because he said the program would cut energy costs for
families by four hundred dollars on average and would create
(04:40):
seven hundred jobs. Well, it's one hundred and fifty six
million dollars. It's not coming our way anymore from the Feds.
In Cadillac, where we're heard on Watt, forty eight year
old managed jailed on accusations he threatened to bomb the
Wexford County Courthouse yesterday morning. He made a call ten
(05:02):
forty five am. Police swept the building. There was no threat,
and he called a third party agency outside the Cadillac
area and made threats to officers and made what are
called terroristic threats about the courthouse. And they figure him
out who he was. And you can't do that, much
(05:22):
as you might like to, you can't. East Lancing, where
we're heard on WJIM, officials say they are not changing
their status as a sanctuary city despite threats from the
Trump administration. Mark Meadows is the city council member. He
say have no plans to change their policies despite federal
officials threatening to take away federal funding from a list
(05:45):
of eighteen sanctuary cities, and East Lancing is one of them.
The US Department of Justice says East Lancing's on the
list and the city is obstructing the enforcement of federal
immigration laws since twenty twenty three, when it became ctuary city.
It's Michael Patrick shields with you. We never let the
(06:05):
birthday of a beautiful person pass without taking note. And
these people are all gone. Giovanni Agnelli was born in
eighteen sixty six. He founded the Fiat Automobile company. Alfred
Hitchcock was born in eighteen ninety nine. This would have
been his birthday. Psycho Vertigo Rear Window, Ben Hogan, the
(06:27):
golf Great born in nineteen twelve. Fidel Castro, the Cuban leader,
was born in nineteen twenty six on this date in history,
and mister Tiny Bubbles himself, Don Ho would have been
celebrating a birthday today in Hawaii. Nineteen thirty is when
he was born. It's Michael Patrick Shields through the AT
(06:47):
and T microphones and pleased to be with you. Welcome
to a lovely Wednesday morning. Eric Nesbit, candidate for governor,
is coming. When did you let CBS News anchor and more.

Speaker 19 (11:04):
Reba McIntyre is paying tribute to her stepson who recently
died of cancer. Brandon Blackstock was also married to Kelly
Clarkson for seven years, and died last week at age
forty eight after a three year.
Speaker 18 (11:16):
Battle with melanoma.
Speaker 19 (11:18):
McIntyre, who called Blackstock her oldest son, posted a tribute
on Instagram, saying his struggle is over and he's an
eternal peace in God's presence. Harvey Weinstein is set to
be sentenced today in his sex crimes retrial in New
York City. Tammy Trio reports a former Hollywood producer was
found guilty of engaging in a criminal sex act with
one woman while being acquitted on another count involving a
(11:40):
different woman. Weinstein was found guilty in twenty twenty, but
the verdict was thrown out because the judge didn't handle
the witness testimony properly. Weinstein is also expected to serve
a sixteen year sentence in Los Angeles on similar charges.
I'm Tammy Trio. Beyonce is officially an Emmy Award winner.
(12:01):
On Tuesday, the Television Academy unveiled twenty twenty five Emmy
winners from its juried categories, including Animation, Costume, Emerging Media
program and Motion Design. They took home the Award for
Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Non Fiction or Reality Programming for
her costume design work on her twenty twenty four NFL
(12:22):
halftime show performance, dubbed the Beyonce Bolt.
Speaker 18 (12:26):
That's entertainment. I'm Jaqueline Carl.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Not much time for me and you. Before we know it,
it will all be gone.
Speaker 20 (12:39):
Let's take that, sharing each other as we go.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Let's take and let's take it.
Speaker 10 (13:03):
Rese Folode Bonus is back with us in Mago Arts Travel, Italy.
And he sat down at the table and he said
he had insights because the reason he said that is.
I asked him, are you shocked up set happy that
there's an American pope? And you lit up and you said,
I've got insight? What kind of insight?
Speaker 13 (13:24):
I am so happy for the new pope, the American Pope.
This guy is not just an American. He spent most
of the visa his life, the majority of his life
in Andes. Are you called in anders And he's the
real missionary. That's what the Catholic Church needs now. He
(13:46):
needs to keep people close to it. He needs to
move people close to close to this out is incredible
and seculary environment. And I think Leo is the right
He's the right guy.
Speaker 10 (14:04):
Do you anticipate in your business that it will draw
more Americans even more to come to Vatican City.
Speaker 13 (14:10):
Absolutely, yes, they will come to the Vatican City. They
will enjoy what we have. Our treasure is our gems
of the Ardican city. They will enjoy. This enclave is
in the state of the country.
Speaker 8 (14:25):
And yeah, we're gonna seems accessible.
Speaker 10 (14:30):
I mean from a distance, I see him in the
open Pope Mobe.
Speaker 8 (14:33):
I didn't even think they did that anymore.
Speaker 13 (14:35):
He's a missionary at all. He's down to her. He
loves to talk to people, he loves to share inside
is one of us, one of us.
Speaker 10 (14:44):
When I saw somebody throw a teddy bear at him,
if I'm not mistaken, absolutely, you got to really feel
close to somebody if you're willing to throw the teddy
bear at the pont, if you know the leader of
the church. But and they bring American football jerseys.
Speaker 13 (14:58):
And American football jersey and he is a very big
support of Roma ball team. I mean I'm talking about
soccer team. Absolutely, absolutely, yes, I'm not for sure. He
loves Totty. Totti was an incredible player I grew up with.
And he's he's our capitan. And he loves Ronan. He
(15:20):
loves the Roman.
Speaker 10 (15:22):
I have to tell you, and I'll be honest too.
When I was watching the television in Los Angeles and
they said, oh, the New Hope, there's this the white Smoke,
I guess they're going to make an announcement. I'll tell
you what I said when they announced that who it was,
that it was an American pope.
Speaker 8 (15:38):
I said, Kakazo's.
Speaker 13 (15:45):
That's a very colorful sentence. You know.
Speaker 8 (15:48):
I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 13 (15:49):
You couldn't believe it. I was there. I was, of
course I was in the square. I saw the white
smoke capably. There are videos I'll share with you, and
it was a very emotional moment to me. For me,
it was the first time I saw the white smoke.
I was there doing the white smoke, and I can
(16:11):
tell you I was so excited. I was like a child,
a kid.
Speaker 10 (16:17):
How did you know to be there at that time
or did you just camp out?
Speaker 13 (16:21):
I had this feeling. I had this feeling. And let
me tell you, usually this smoke comes up around seven o'clock.
It came out one hour, one and a half hour earlier,
and I was there two and a half hour earlier. Yes,
I was there because I felt something and I was yelling,
(16:42):
hugging with friends on mine. I met friends. We did
not have a meeting. I didn't know a meeting. I
met so many people I knew there and we started
hugging each other. I hug people there I didn't know.
It was an incredible moment.
Speaker 10 (16:58):
I a sweet thing to hear. So I get chills
just hearing you say that kind of thing. And uh,
now this Pope Leo he is using I think as
we speak now in the summer he's at Castle Gundalfo,
and Francis did not, as I recall, used that can
you go there.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
As a as a tourist?
Speaker 13 (17:16):
Now you won't. We won't go there as a tourist
during the day, but we can do it. We can
still do it doing I mean in the winter time
when he's not using it.
Speaker 8 (17:30):
Because did he turned it into a museum? Did he?
Or that's what I heard, is it still would say it's.
Speaker 13 (17:36):
A kademisum, it's a part of the Italian history because
think local. It's an enchanting place everybody should see. Absolutely, yes,
And the Francis decide for his reason, uh not to
use it, and of course you know they open to
the tourists, which was an incredible idea to.
Speaker 8 (17:55):
What's it like? How far is it from Rome? And
what is it like?
Speaker 13 (17:58):
It's's I'm round from the city center. It's twenty five
minutes from the city center. And there is a huge garden,
a beautiful, amazing garden, big big gardens, and there is
the Apostolic Badas, which looked like an Apostolic palat plenty
of riscoes from the big Pinanda the sixteen hundred, and
(18:19):
it was part of the Burgases property. It's a it's
a beautiful I suggest you to go.
Speaker 8 (18:24):
You should go with me and Mago Arts Travel.
Speaker 10 (18:28):

Putin and Donald Trump will be an Anchorage, Alaska on Friday.
There were other sites discussed. Speaking of travel, Switzerland was
in the mixue. You know, it's Neutral Turkey, the United
Arab Emirates where some of the speculated locations, but it
(19:40):
turns out it'll be Anchorage, a city of three hundred

Speaker 21 (20:00):
Some relief from obstructive sleep apnea symptoms may be found
by using a conkshell. That's according to a study published
in ERJ Open Research. It found people blowing through a
conkshell daily for several months showed reduced symptoms. Sleep tests
measured fewer sleep apnea episodes per hour, and improved blood
oxygen levels. Researchers say the exercise likely strengthens and tones
(20:24):
upper airway muscles. Researchers with the University of Virginia's School
of Medicine have developed an online insomnia treatment. The results
of the clinical trial showed it could help older adults
get better sleep. The university says the trial involved more
than three hundred people between the ages of fifty five
and ninety five. The study found participants had higher quality
(20:46):
sleep and woke up less during the night. The treatment
is the first in some near related digital health program
made specifically for older adults. Health update. I'm Sarah le Kessler.
Speaker 10 (21:06):
It's Michael Patrick Shields back at Virtuoso and Christine Gaffney
is here with Nordics. And the most interesting story I've
heard on this visit is that you have a destination
that you don't want anybody to know where it is.
Speaker 22 (21:20):
Yes, we have built a lodge from the ground up,
completely sustainable, sustainable materials, in the midst of the forest.
And we like to say that the journey begins with
the road ends. So you park your car, you walk
for ten minutes through a fairytale trail, you walk through
a forest, and there are the lodge appears on the
west coast in an undisclosed location. It's a beautiful wooden building.
(21:43):
Corpouses swimming below in the Fiord, eagles flying up high.
Two suites, en suite, fifteen hundred square feet, private chef,
a housekeeper. It's a true immersion in nature and completely authentic.
Speaker 10 (21:57):
Do your guests have to sign a non disclosure agreement.
So when they get home and they say they went
to Norway and somebody says where, they say, can't tell y'all.
Speaker 22 (22:05):
Well, you know, they don't need to because they don't
want to tell anyone. They want to keep it a
secret because they want to come back. And I'll tell
you a fun fact. The very first guest we had there,
she's actually flying into Vegas on Friday.
Speaker 8 (22:17):
To meet with me.
Speaker 22 (22:18):
She tattooed the property and the mountains behind it on
her arms.
Speaker 10 (22:24):
So the only way to get there is through your company,
and that is how do we reach you?
Speaker 22 (22:28):
You have to reach out to the Luxury Travel Designer
and that's the only way to get to our hideaway.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
Okay, And so how do we do that? To learn more?
How do we go through a virtual also advisor?
Speaker 22 (22:39):
Then you can go through a virtual advisor, or you
can reach out directly to the Luxury Travel Designer dot com.
Just go on the website to have the contact details.
And if you want to throw in a helicopter and
maybe a stay up north under the northern lights, we
also have some egos in the Arctic, of course you do.
Speaker 8 (22:57):
Now let me ask you this.
Speaker 10 (22:58):
I ran with the bulls one time, and I did
it through made for Spain and Portugal. So could I
come with Nordics and do north and put on one
of those wing suits and will you shove me off
the mountain.
Speaker 22 (23:11):
I would be happy to shove you off the mountain
in a waiting suits. I'm not sure where you will
land or how you will land, but I'll be happy
to do it. But I have another suggestion for you.
Up in the Arctic, we offer swimming with orcas, hump
back whales and fin whales. So come to the Arctic
and explore our eagles at East Brand the Glacier.
Speaker 10 (23:31):
Okay, I'll swim with an orca of fly in a
wingsuit or crash in a wing suit probably more likely.
And Christine Gaffney will help me do it with Nordics
in Norway.
Speaker 8 (23:40):
Thank you, Thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump is sent
to speak virtually with Ukrainian President Zelenski today as according
to multiple reports which sent the call, will also include
Vice President Advance and European allies. It all comes before
Trump is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin
on Friday in Alaska. As he works to end the
fighting between the two countries. Zelensky has said Ukraine won't
(24:24):
give up any territory to Russia and will not give
up trying to gain NATO membership. Russia has demanded Ukraine
give up land to reach a deal to end the war.
President Trump may soon get the interest rate cut he's
been asking for from the Fed. That's because July's inflation
report was better than expected. White House Press Secretary of
Caroline Levitt celebrated the news.
Speaker 23 (24:43):
Today's CPI report revealed that inflation beat market expectations once
again and inflation remains stable.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
The Languor Department shows the Consumer Price Index, a general
measure of how much people are paying for goods and services,
and a key inflation indicator, was up just two tenths
of percent from June. Many economists say the reports should
be evidence that Trump's tariffs are not leading to a
spike in inflation, and now it's safe to cut rates,
possibly as soon as September. The Pentagon plans to set
up a six hundred person National Guard Quick Reaction Force,
(25:14):
Brian Shook.
Speaker 24 (25:15):
Explained, according to reports from The Washington Post, a domestic
civil disturbance quick Reaction Force will make hundreds of guard
members outfitted with weapons and riot gear, deployable in as
little as one hour. The force would be called to
US cities to quell protests or other unrest. I'm Brian Shook.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
And Harvey Weinstein, who is set to be sentenced today
in his sex crimes retrial in New York City. The
former Hollywood producer was found guilty of engaging in a
criminal sex act with one woman while being acquitted on
another count involving a different woman. Weinstein was found guilty
in twenty twenty, but the verdict was thrown out because
the judge did not handle the witness testimony properly. You're
listening to the latest from NBC News Radio. Apple is
(25:58):
expected to unveil the thinnest iPhone ever at its hardware
event on September ninth. Here's Michael Kassner.
Speaker 25 (26:04):
Today we're going to talk about Apple Watch, air pods,
and iPhone.
Speaker 26 (26:08):
Along with iPhone seventeen, Apple is set to release the
seventeen Pro and seventeen Pro Max. Announcements are also expected
on updates for the Apple Watch and air pods. The
iPhone seventeen is expected to be priced at around eight
hundred dollars, The Pro Model could cost around one thousand
fifty dollars, and the Pro Max is expected to have
(26:29):
a price tag of twelve hundred and fifty.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
And Groc is touting high ratings on the app store
and taking aim another Tech Giants after returning from a
brief suspension on X. When asked Whyatt's account was removed,
the AI chatbot wrote that the recent remains unclear. However,
now deleted posts, Grok claimed the suspension was due to
comments on Israel and Naza that violated x's hateful conduct rules.
Elon Musk, however, said that Groc doesn't actually know Whyatt
(26:54):
was suspended. Tech Report A Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 27 (27:09):
I'm living in basketball. He'll bell Rod Star out of
control living you can basket forward.
Speaker 10 (27:22):
Now I need one.
Speaker 8 (27:24):
Real slow well, I tell you.
Speaker 10 (27:26):
Broadcasting from Las Vegas for Virtuoso Travel Week, it's one
hundred and twelve degrees. So ice is a long way
from your mind when you're here and when you get
a drink, which that happens sometimes in Las Vegas. The
ice melts so fast you can't even believe it, so
you have to drink up. My friends stay thirsty and
it's a long way from the ice we're going to
(27:48):
talk about in just a minute with Eric Nesbitt, the
candidate for governor and Senate Republican leader, and of course
in northern Michigan. We're heard on WMKT radio stations across
the state of Michigan, and it's business leaders from Michigan
united by an ambitious goal to make Michigan a top
ten state for jobs and talent and a thriving economy.
(28:08):
They have that ambitious goal to do that. And one
of the things that the Business Leaders for Michigan, members
of which appear regularly on this program, and so does
Jeff Donofrio, the CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan, is
that our state needs a unified vision and collective action
that draws more talent and increases investment and creates a
(28:30):
healthy pipeline of scalable companies. And if we don't do that,
we risk seeing the future designed and built elsewhere. We
don't want that. As I mentioned, Senator Eric Nesbitt, candidate
for governor, is on our radio stage, our at and
T line right this very moment. Thank you for being
here and welcome back to the program.
Speaker 28 (28:51):
Hey, thanks for having me, Michael Patrick. Always good to
be on your show.
Speaker 10 (28:57):
Kind Of a weird summer, isn't it, in terms of
the lack of legislative action.
Speaker 28 (29:03):
Usually July and August, folks are back in the districts,
we're working around the state, listening to constituents. Well, I'm
talking about it. We're in session today. It's been probably
six seven weeks the Senate's been in session, but yesterday
I sent out a release urging Senate Democrats to stop
(29:25):
delane and vote on critical funding to support northern Michigan
residents still recovering from the devastating ice storm that happened
all the way back in the spring. And I know
a lot of folks around the state has already forgotten
about it, but I was just in you know, Galored
area yesterday and boy, it's you could tell there's still
(29:48):
some challenges up there. And it's really been months since
the ice storm, and Northern Michigan families are still struggling.
Local municipalities has spent a lot of resources early on
on the cleanup. And these are our neighbors, our communities,
and they really deserve help now. And the House passed
the bipartisan supplemental budget to help backfill some of the
(30:10):
money that was spent earlier this year on emergency response,
and the Senate Democrats still haven't brought it up. I'm
sure you know, we could pass it today. We're in
session today, and I'd like to get it done.
Speaker 10 (30:24):
What kind of reason could there be that there wasn't
some sort of immediate action on something like that given
the severity of the problems.
Speaker 28 (30:32):
Yeah, I mean, still in committee, and the best I
could figure is they're trying to get leveraged with.
Speaker 7 (30:38):
The House somehow or.
Speaker 28 (30:39):
With members from from northern Michigan. And that's too bad,
because at the end of the day, we're all michigan Ors.
We're all folks that are part of our state and community.
And when you know, devastating natural disasters happened, you know,
that's when the state responds. You saw President Trump and
(31:01):
the Trump administration a few weeks ago, you know, step
up and providing tens of millions of dollars of resources
to backfield. Now it's time for the state. As we know,
the ice storm caused widespread power outages, property damage, and
economic cardship across northern Michigan.
Speaker 7 (31:20):
I was up at.
Speaker 28 (31:20):
Alpena the end of April. The day I was up there,
it had been four weeks and the last customer in
Alpina County just got back on their power. Can you imagine,
you know, without power for four weeks.
Speaker 10 (31:35):
No, I can't imagine it for five minutes, really, And
what I also can't imagine is that the people of
the Bay area have been Now there's a countdown clock
that Michigan Forward Network has and how long they've been
now without representation. Once again, it's not the Senate dragging
their feet, it's the governor on this one. Would a
(31:58):
senator from the Bay are you to make a difference
in a situation like this?
Speaker 28 (32:05):
And I think this is part of a discussion.
Speaker 7 (32:08):
You'll bring it up.
Speaker 28 (32:08):
That it's been over two hundred days since Stagana, Bay
and Midland Counties haven't had representation in the state Senate.
And that's when Christina McDonald rever became a congress person
and Governor Whitmer under the low says that she shall
call a special election, and there's still no special election
(32:31):
called and citizens in that area there's two hundred seventy
thousand people that have gone without representation.
Speaker 7 (32:37):
No idea.
Speaker 28 (32:40):
How long that'll continue to be with the governor not
calling it. But there was some citizens earlier this week
that stepped up ensued the governor and in court and
judges asking for the reasoning why the governor hasn't called
a special election yet. And so it looks like the
next few weeks there's going to have to be some
(33:00):
explanations in court from Governor Whitmer on.
Speaker 10 (33:03):
That you're talking about the situation that happened in northern
Michigan with the ice storm and getting some funding to
the people there who need it. At the same time,
state officials, as I understand, are all ramped up because
there was one hundred and fifty six million dollars in
federal money that was supposed to be coming for a
solar project. Ironic when it's a state that suffers ice
(33:28):
storms and strong winters, that the solar money was going
to save the world, wasn't it.
Speaker 28 (33:34):
This is part of the challenge of when you don't
allow market forces to operate, is that you rely on
subsidies and mandates. And what we've seen over the last
few years is that a lot of local residents, a
lot of local Michigan families and workers across the state.
(33:55):
Don't want hundreds of thousands of acres of farm and
forced land to be in rustilized with these solar arrays,
and I think a lot of folks are are stepping
up against it. And unfortunately state law changed a few
years ago under the Senate, House and Governor you know,
(34:15):
Democrat leadership, that they passed legislation sat locals don't have
any choice on whether or not there's these solar industrial
solar arrays in their backyard.
Speaker 10 (34:28):
I understand too, you're asking for Senate action here on
the relief for people in northern Michigan who endured that
ice storm. And at the same time too, is this
another example that we saw a couple of weeks ago
where there was a bill that seemed to make sense
for everyone that kids shouldn't use their mobile phones while
they're in the classroom, and that came to a screeching
(34:49):
halt out of brinksmanship.
Speaker 28 (34:53):
Yeah, you saw that in the House a few weeks
ago when the Speaker Hall and House Funking leadership put
up what should have been a bipartisan and bill for
a vote, and it looked like that House Democrats were
playing games over there. But you know this is the challenge.
I think a lot of times in politics when stuff
(35:14):
things get done, let's just get it done. Let's take
the politics out of it. And this is what's too
bad on this legislation. Despite bipartisan support for relief funding
as sat in the Senate Committee and appropriations for three
months without action, I'm just calling for immediate action on
the disaster release package. We can take care of it today,
(35:36):
get it to the governor. This includes targeted funding to
address stormulated damages, support local businesses, and help families recover.
We need to have responsibility to put Michiganders first.
Speaker 10 (35:47):
How about a governor that puts Michiganders first and puts
politics aside. Eric Nesbitt is the Senate Republican leader and
he would like to be your governor too. Thank you
very much and appreciate that.

Speaker 10 (37:00):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(37:23):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts
(37:47):
with shedding light on the entire cost equation from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit miiblue

Speaker 9 (39:11):
On This.
Speaker 27 (39:22):
Job, Man Alive, that lady sample weekend f stop mafter city.
Speaker 18 (39:32):
Then it's good to be together as ave.
Speaker 8 (39:36):
We got it, just got.
Speaker 10 (39:38):
Okay. We've been talking about traveling, We've been talking about cruising.
Steve Smotris has something for us I have not heard
about before. He's the managing director and senior vice president
for the Americas for h X, And uh, you know,
some of us we want to have an adventure, but
we want to have a comfortable adventure.
Speaker 8 (39:56):
And is that kind of what you do? If I
say got some great the idea that.
Speaker 10 (40:00):
I wanted to go to the antarctica, Yes, yes, you
would take us there but in a comfortable way without
a doubt.
Speaker 34 (40:06):
So I think HX being one hundred and thirty years
of expedition, we believe that we have curated the perfect
balance of expedition, that is a perfect balance of adventure,
and it's that's adventure for everybody. People don't have to
be intimidate about about the word expedition. There's actually in
every stop there's a you can do something very small
like walk on the shore, or you can go on
(40:27):
a hike.
Speaker 10 (40:28):
So we have an adventure for everybody.
Speaker 8 (40:30):
There's a difference between a walk and a hike.
Speaker 34 (40:32):
I yess there is well a walk up a hike
up a mountain, or walk walk on the shore with penguins.
Speaker 8 (40:37):
And you have electric ships. They are high.
Speaker 34 (40:40):
They are the first two hybrid electric powered ships. So
it creates about a fuel efficiency of about thirty percent.
So when it comes to sustainability, nobody touches us. We
have the least amount of emissions per guess, so we
can in our ESG rating is the number one s rate.
Speaker 8 (41:00):
It in all of cruise, not just a figure name.
Speaker 34 (41:03):
So we have ships that range from ninety guests, although
we have to four hundred and ninety games. Our two
hybrid ships are four hundred and ninety.
Speaker 8 (41:08):
They are, and that really creates.
Speaker 34 (41:10):
A great balance because not only can we take more people,
less mssions for guests, but also when you're going to
city destinations, you get a lot of c d's and
it gives you more things to do, more amenities of ward,
things like a small and wellness program and beautiful affinity pool,
hot tubs, multiple restaurants, three different restaurants to choose from,
and the largest science centers at sea. So it really
(41:32):
creates this really great balance, and it doesn't it doesn't
limit us so.
Speaker 31 (41:36):
Where we can go and explore, and these ships.
Speaker 8 (41:39):
Are really adept at navigating.
Speaker 34 (41:41):
To really narrow, incredible places.
Speaker 8 (41:43):
This is a dumb question, but how do you charge them?
How do we charge you said they're electric, How do
you charge them?
Speaker 34 (41:50):
Well, they charge themselves as so when we are on
gas and propelling the ship, they charge doing that way.
So then sometimes we can turn off the fuel ship
fuel part and we can run an electric or about
thirty minutes at a time. But when you're switching back
and forth, think about like a hybrid car, how it
switches back and forth. Three chargers of cell and so
(42:12):
it creates about thirty percent efficiency and fuel.
Speaker 8 (42:16):
What is it like to go across a sail across
the Drake Passage?
Speaker 34 (42:21):
The notorious Drake People shouldn't be scared of the Drake
is I always think it's kind of the right of
passage of going down to Antarctica.
Speaker 8 (42:30):
Now our ship's being a little bit larger.
Speaker 34 (42:33):
Actually, it creates a little bit more stability in the water,
so those people who are afraid of the drink, it
will create a little bit more stable trip for going across.
Speaker 8 (42:40):
But it really does create a nice opportunity to.
Speaker 34 (42:42):
Get used to the rhythm of the ship, gets to
know the expedition team. And I'll tell you there's nothing
like that very first day when you arrive in Antarctica
and see the majesty of that incredible place.
Speaker 10 (42:55):
I imagine when you see that landscape with your eyes
must be a hell of a feeling of wonder and achievement.
How many days does it take to go across the
Drake Passage?
Speaker 34 (43:06):
So you can do it in about a day and
a half. Now that the technology is so technology, the
technology is so great right now that they will look
and see for like if the weather does look bad
and the drink could be bad. They look for little
windows in the weather and so they could do it
as quick as a day and a half, or they
can take it their time and go a little bit slower.
Speaker 8 (43:28):
If that's point, they will allow for uncomfortable life. Do
you get to go ashore in Antarctica?
Speaker 34 (43:32):
You absolutely do, just about every day we are we
are going ashore on the zodiacs that we lonch straight
from the ship and slide right up onto the shore.
You are walking amongst the penguins. They have no lampetitors,
so they have no fear of walking right up to you.
Speaker 8 (43:47):
Wow, and it is a surreal experience.
Speaker 10 (43:50):
I would like to see a penguin on the shore
and scoop up a glass of ice with some really
good Scotch in that glass and drink with that snow
and that.
Speaker 13 (44:00):
Oh, there's nothing like that.
Speaker 8 (44:02):
That is a perfect sperience.
Speaker 13 (44:03):
We can do that for you too.

one Atlas? You know that's that comet. If it's a
high speed comet that's heading toward our solar system, headed
toward Earth. Oh dear, the Hubble Space tell Us got
(45:00):
the best picture yet of this comet, and it was
at a telescope in Chile. And it's some debate about this.
It's going one hundred and thirty thousand miles an hour
and it's going to veer closer to Mars than Earth,
and it's two hundred and seventy seven million miles away
right now. But the debate is is it a comet
(45:24):
or is it some sort of visitor from another world
because it's not really acting like a comet, And there's debate.
You know, some scientists are saying, I don't worry about it.
Some people are saying worry because we don't know what
it is. And it's close enough, close enough to be worrisome,
Like if it's from somewhere else, are they coming to

Spitzer reports. Trump has signed in executive order keeping tariffs
at current levels for another ninety days, and says the
agreement buys time for both countries.
Speaker 41 (56:08):
Talks earlier this summer in Geneva and a Stockholm failed
to produce a longer term agreement, although US officials say
the extension gives both sides a chance to work towards
a framework deal later this year.

at around thirty thousand dollars. Apple expected to unveil the
thinnest iPhone ever at its hardware events September ninth.
Speaker 25 (56:47):
Today, we're going to talk about Apple Watch, air pods,
and iPhone.
Speaker 26 (56:51):
Along with iPhone seventeen, Apple is set to release the
seventeen Pro and seventeen Pro Max. Announcements are also expected
on updates for the Apple Watch and air pods. The
iPhone seventeen is expected to be priced at around eight
hundred dollars, The Pro model could cost around one thousand
fifty dollars, and the Promax is expected to have a

price tag up twelve hundred and fifty. I'm Michael Kassner

Sold nationwide is being recalled due to dangerous bacterial contamination.
According to the company, soap products from Derma Right Industries
were found to contain a bacterium that could lead to
serious and life threatening infections. The recall includes Derma Klee,
Derma Sera Clean Foam, and Perrygene soaps. Spirit Airlines is
raising concerns it may not survive much longer without raising
(57:37):
more cash. In its quarterly report, the budget airlines said
it continues to be affected by adverse market conditions, including
weak demand for domestic leisure travel. This comes less than
six months after Spirit came out of bankruptcy. They say
they're considering selling airport gates, real estate, and some aircraft
to get more cash. I'm Monaka Nelson with your consumer

the Pirates fourteenth to nothing for their eleven straight win.
Mets towards the Braves snapped their seven game slide. Pete
Alonzo semected pair of homers to become the Mets all
time leader and career home runs passing Darryl Strawberry says,
it means a lot to be among the best.

Realm of the possibility to be a franchise home run leader.
To have that opportunity, you really don't think about it,
and I mean that's it's a wild dream, to be honest,
and it's it's really special.

President Trump and Russian President Putin will meet in Alaska
on Friday. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed details
of the summit on Tuesday. The two leaders are set
to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine. Trump
announced on Monday that Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky will not
take part in the upcoming talks. He said he'll call
Selenski and other European leaders after his face to face
(59:18):
with Putin and President Trump may soon get the interest
rate he's been asking for from the Fed. That's because
July's inflation report is better than expected. White House Press
Secretary Caroline Levitt celebrated the news.
Speaker 23 (59:29):
Today's CPI report revealed that inflation beat market expectations once
again and inflation remains stable.
Speaker 5 (59:37):
The Labor Department shows the Consumer Price Index, a general
measure of how much people are paying for goods and services,
and a key inflation indicator, was up just two tenths
of a percent from June. Many economists say the report
should be evidence that Trump's tariffs are not leading to
a spike in inflation, and now it's safe to cut rates,
possibly as soon as September. That's politics.
Speaker 43 (59:56):
I'm Mark Mayfield, live across the Great Lake State.

Speaker 43 (01:00:41):
Anybody, Julie, Hey, guess what day it is?
Speaker 44 (01:00:44):

What day is it?
Speaker 7 (01:00:48):

was a year ago, because we met her at Virtuoso
last year and we're sitting with her again. It's nice
to see you again on dry land here in the desert,
far away from your cruise ships.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
Thank you, Michael, happy to be back.
Speaker 8 (01:01:43):
The name of the brand again.
Speaker 45 (01:01:44):
Is Asimara Cruises.
Speaker 10 (01:01:47):
As Amara does that translate to anything, you know?
Speaker 18 (01:01:49):
It's really interesting.
Speaker 45 (01:01:50):
We created that name from a We're named Akamar, which
is the north star in the sea, and that's how
Asimara Cruises was born in two thousand and.
Speaker 10 (01:02:01):
Eight, and that's how you'll remember it when you go
looking for it, and your will after you come to
hear that someone could set sail for one hundred and
eighty days.
Speaker 45 (01:02:11):
One hundred and eighty eight day world crew. We literally
take you all around the world, and in twenty six
we have one hundred and thirty three days.
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
In twenty seven it goes to.
Speaker 45 (01:02:22):
One eighty eight and in November of this year we're
announcing the twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 8 (01:02:28):
Does anybody ever say I gotta get off?
Speaker 46 (01:02:31):
Never?
Speaker 47 (01:02:32):
Are you kidding?
Speaker 45 (01:02:33):
Because we take them all around the world. You know,
you go to one continent and then another one, and
then another one and you never have to un back.
Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 45 (01:02:42):
And the food and the ambiance, and you fall in
love with the.
Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
Crew because you're with them one hundred and eighty eight days.
Speaker 10 (01:02:47):
Yeah, well that sounds like a nice vacation because you're
not thinking about when it ends. The minute you get
on board, or you a minute you check into a
resort hotel, you're like, well I got four more days?
Speaker 13 (01:02:57):
No, you got a one hundred.
Speaker 8 (01:02:58):
You're like going around world in one hundred and.
Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
Eighty eight days, and you know it's such a special cruise.
Speaker 45 (01:03:03):
But I actually, as the CEO of Asimar Cruises, I
go to the kickoff and I meet every one of
these guests, thank them for their their love for ASIMR Cruises,
and then about halfway through I meet them again and
the stories are incredible.
Speaker 10 (01:03:19):
Now that is a lesson in customer service right there.
So the journey begins in what city? Where does it start?
Speaker 9 (01:03:25):
Well?
Speaker 45 (01:03:25):
This one one hundred and eighty eight starts in Miami,
and it's January sixth in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 8 (01:03:33):
Now you're sold out till then, eh, well we're not.
Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Sold out, but we're getting there.
Speaker 45 (01:03:37):
In twenty six it starts in Miami as well, but
it's only one hundred and thirty three days, and then
the one in twenty seven goes to one eighty eight days.
But we literally go to all seven continents.
Speaker 8 (01:03:48):
That means it's going to Antarctica.
Speaker 48 (01:03:50):
It goes to Antarctica, to your God.
Speaker 8 (01:03:52):
And does it return to Miami.
Speaker 45 (01:03:55):
It ends up in Miami, but in order for you
to go all the way back to Miami, it's a
little bit more because it starts in Miami, and in
most cases it ends in the West coast of the
United States, like over in California, Alaska, and then people
fly home from there.
Speaker 8 (01:04:11):
So when you went midway to meet the people, you
flew to Antarctica.
Speaker 33 (01:04:15):
No, it didn't go to Antarctica.
Speaker 45 (01:04:17):
I actually stopped in New Europe region and we had
three ships that we called it Sisters Met and so
all three of the ships were there. One of them
was the World Cruise, and I went and it was
actually in Nice that I went and spent the entire.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Day with the with that group of people, and I
loved them.
Speaker 49 (01:04:34):
Let me.
Speaker 10 (01:04:38):
It's dreamy a spell, it's azy a m ra and
Mara means the sea and aza is the sky is blue.
Speaker 8 (01:04:46):
I gotcha.
Speaker 45 (01:04:46):
And Akamar was this star the northern stars. But it's
a z A m A r A not easy to remember.
Speaker 8 (01:04:55):
Now, you got it.
Speaker 10 (01:04:56):
You're speaking to the water wonderland, the Great Lakes, State
of Michigan.
Speaker 8 (01:04:59):
We loved cruise, we love votes, we love.
Speaker 10 (01:05:02):
Escaping, and you'll get giving it to us all, even
if it's just in our dreams.
Speaker 8 (01:05:06):
But maybe we'll see you on board.
Speaker 45 (01:05:07):
Thank you so much, Michael.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
I'm so happy to see you.
Speaker 8 (01:05:11):
Thank you and mentioned my name in Miami. Just don't
tell them where I am.
Speaker 47 (01:05:15):
You got it.
Speaker 33 (01:05:16):
Thank you.
Speaker 8 (01:05:17):
Osmara Cruz is Dondra Ritz in Taller. That's easy for
you to say.
Speaker 10 (01:05:25):
Oh, you might say, MPs, why are you talking so
much about taking a trip? Well, if you look at
the news right now, If you look at the news
right now, Let's just take a look at the headlines
on one page of the Drudge report. Federalized police deploying
troops on DC streets, widespread discontent among guardsmen. Pentagon plans
(01:05:48):
reaction force for civil unrest. US army will never set
foot in Mexico, the Mexican president says. Jimmy Kimmel is
prepping moving to Italy to escape Donald Trump. A top
economist thinks we're on the brink of a recession. Somebody
(01:06:11):
defaced the Western Wall in Israel in Jerusalem with graffiti
that says Holocaust. In Gaza, Israel prepares for battle. Nothing
will be left, they say. In Gaza, migrants urinated on
Paris City Hall and a protest and then the big claim.
(01:06:33):
Humans have one hundred and sixteen days now until that
alien spaceship reaches Earth. And there is one expert who's
saying it could come to save us or come to
destroy us, and we better be prepared for both possibilities.
Is it just an interstellar rock? This is thirty one Atlas,
(01:06:55):
it's called, and it's heading toward our solar system at
one hundred and thirty five miles an hour. So wow,
why would you get out of bed hearing all that
terrible news? You better call somebody and tell them that
you love them. I say.
Speaker 9 (01:07:16):
Love.
Speaker 10 (01:07:17):
Do you think that Donald Trump will say that to
Vladimir Putin when they get to Alaska on Friday for
the summit meeting. It's not a call, it's a face
to face and they're gonna call Lord Marselenski. Apparently he's
not gonna be either in person. But what if they
call him and they say, hey, dude, we love you
and not mean from the bottom. Every day on this program,
(01:07:44):
we're gonna call someone randomly and we're gonna tell them
we love them, and we encourage you to do the same.
You don't have to get in a big conversation, and
you might even get the voicemail and you just say, hey,
just call.
Speaker 13 (01:07:55):
And say I love you.
Speaker 10 (01:07:56):
I mean it from the bottom of my hearts. I
love Wendy Gillette, CBS News anchor, and she's gonna talk
about her career and we'll go behind the scenes of
Stephen Colbert and Nora O'donnald we'll try to get her
to gossip a little bit too. Coming up, and mister
Bellis has news about Taylor Swift. Misty Bellis is Virtuoso's
(01:08:17):
global public relations director. We love her too. And Paula Cunningham, well,
I definitely love her. She's the state director of AARP Michigan.
She's gonna chat with us a little bit later too.
So there's three people were calling today to say I
love you, and it's Michael Patrick Shields and I'll say
it to you right now.
Speaker 14 (01:08:37):
I love you.
Speaker 10 (01:08:38):
And Eastern Michigan wants to ensure your future. They want
you to land your first job. That's what Eastern Michigan

it comes from MPs.
Speaker 50 (01:08:55):
To say.
Speaker 49 (01:08:57):
I love you.

eternal peace in God's presence. Harvey Weinstein is set to
be sentenced today in his sex crimes retrial in New
York City. Tammy Trio reports, a former Hollywood producer was
found guilty of engaging in a criminal sex act with
one woman while being acquitted on another count involving a
(01:11:40):
different woman. Weinstein was found guilty in twenty twenty, but
the verdict was thrown out because the judge didn't handle
the witness testimony properly. Weinstein is also expected to serve
a sixteen year sentence in Los Angeles.

the Luxury Portfolio at Hyatt Corporation.
Speaker 8 (01:13:18):
Welcome to Las Vegas, and welcome to the world.
Speaker 10 (01:13:20):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 48 (01:13:21):
Nice to meet you.
Speaker 8 (01:13:22):
How has it been going so far?
Speaker 10 (01:13:23):
What are your impressions of this confab of forty five
hundred of your closest friends.
Speaker 8 (01:13:28):
I love it.
Speaker 51 (01:13:29):
I mean it's all about meaningful connections and getting to
know people and just really working together to make the
future better for luxury consumers.
Speaker 8 (01:13:37):
Where are you based.
Speaker 48 (01:13:38):
I'm actually in.
Speaker 51 (01:13:38):
Denver, but I'm based out of Chicago at Hyatte headquarters.
Speaker 8 (01:13:41):
All right, so we're Midwesterners.
Speaker 10 (01:13:43):
We're on thirteen stations across the state of Michigan, and
Chicago is a very competitive hotel town. If I were
thinking of free in the world, I think probably London's
Chicago and what would be the.
Speaker 8 (01:13:56):
Third Probably New York is a hot market.
Speaker 10 (01:13:59):
Yes, yeah, well.
Speaker 8 (01:14:01):
Hey, you know, but Hiatt, what makes a high end.
Speaker 9 (01:14:05):
A high end?
Speaker 48 (01:14:06):
I think we do things differently.
Speaker 51 (01:14:08):
We're not the biggest chain out there, and we like
to think that we have meaningful connections with today's traveler,
and we're constantly listening to make sure we're relevant, that
we're providing meaningful connections and we're elevating the guest experience.
So I think we play the game differently because we
want to really strike the balance of offering great experiences
but getting to know today's travel traveler today.
Speaker 8 (01:14:29):
Is it wrong for me to think of the High
End as a business hotel?
Speaker 51 (01:14:33):
No, I don't think so, because I think we like
to be where our guests want to travel to, depending
on what stay occasion they're looking for. I think historically
we were known as a business corporate entity, but we're
now really trans transforming into being more experiential and we're
offering everything that guests are looking for today, depending on
their stay occasion and what they're looking for when they're
experiencing those locations. So we offer the best of both worlds.
(01:14:55):
We have anything you want from select service if it's
a limited stay all the way up to really deeply
experiences like Mirable or Alila or Parkayatt when they're traveling
in today's luxury.
Speaker 10 (01:15:07):
On second, I'm glad you mentioned Park Hyatt because like
all the brands, it seems now there are different sort
of labels. The Park Hyatt is different than Hyatt. I
don't even know what does Hiatt regency still exist.
Speaker 51 (01:15:20):
Oh yeah, absolutely, we still have high regency. We have
a lot of Hyatt regencies around the world, but it
is different, Park.
Speaker 48 (01:15:25):
I think what makes it different.
Speaker 51 (01:15:26):
It's all about providing a home away from home in
those comforts of when you're traveling, to have art and design,
food and beverage, and then intuitive service. So when we
talk about intuitive service, it's really personalized experiences for our guests.
So we have a deep connection with our world to
Hyatt members, but even travelers in general who are just
looking for something more elevated and maybe something that makes
(01:15:49):
them feel comfortable when they're traveling.
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
So it's a humboway happen.
Speaker 52 (01:15:53):
You know.
Speaker 10 (01:15:53):
It just came to mind when you were saying that,
was I get to Venus fairly often, and I was
Morano looking at La and I looked up and I said, well,
what do you know? There there's a Hyatt centric right
and Morano in the middle of all the glass factories.
And that's a place where you would not expect to
see a brand like that and displayed on the building
(01:16:14):
because they're pretty fussy about those things.
Speaker 45 (01:16:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Yeah, Oh, there's a great hotel.
Speaker 48 (01:16:17):
I've been there it's truly inspirational.
Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
Grano's a great location.
Speaker 51 (01:16:21):
But I think for Hyatt, when we work with owners,
we want to be in markets that we're not in.
Speaker 48 (01:16:26):
Venice is a great place.
Speaker 51 (01:16:27):
So I think we're continuing to look at where we
want to be located and what brands make the most
sense for travelers who visit those markets. So Hyatt Centric
is a perfect one centrally located, but we're looking at
all different types of areas and making sure the Hyatt
brand stands out.
Speaker 10 (01:16:42):
I learned about what Hyatt centric meant and maybe you
can share it with the listeners and readers when I
broadcast from Nashville and I and I was at your
hotel there and up on I think of the eighth
or ninth floor, there was a glass room that was
almost almost looked like it was built to be a
radio studio and we had musicians coming in and all.
Speaker 8 (01:16:59):
The rest of it.
Speaker 10 (01:17:00):
So the Hyatt centric what does that mean? Because that
was the hotel in Toronto as well.
Speaker 51 (01:17:05):
Night centric is being the central location to that destination.
They want to be centrally placed so that when you're
exploring a city, a neighborhood, any type of location They're
centrally located, so you can really use them as a
launch pad, base scan let's explore the surrounding area. But
they also offer unique programming to keep you on site.
Speaker 8 (01:17:24):
You talked about.
Speaker 51 (01:17:25):
Music and entertainment and art and design and culinary, so
they have a lifestyle helment too, But it's all about
being centralized.
Speaker 8 (01:17:31):
Do you miss Chicago ever?
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
I love Chicago. I'm in Chicago all the time. It's
a great destination.
Speaker 10 (01:17:37):
Somebody was leaving for Chicago from this conference yesterday and
they were going to come back. So can you bring
a Loom mal Nanti's pizza with you?
Speaker 3 (01:17:45):

Speaker 48 (01:17:46):
Yeah, that's the same thing.
Speaker 10 (01:17:49):

Speaker 10 (01:18:00):
Survived this first week of virtualks. We're gonna touch base
with you next week and get proof of light Lucky
delet it. It was that High Eccentric in Nashville where
we met Jen Shott, the songwriter who wrote a song
about my life just by talking to me for thirty
five seconds. It sounded like this, let's write a song
(01:18:28):
about me real fast.
Speaker 48 (01:18:29):
Well, I know the title, you do, I do four wheels,
four wives.
Speaker 10 (01:18:33):
Do you want to strum a little bit?
Speaker 35 (01:18:35):
Four wheels, four wives, four dozen roses?
Speaker 10 (01:18:43):
Very funny. But she'd written for some very famous musicians,
including Rascal Flats and a bunch of others, and it
was what a gift she had to be able to
write about the performer and something that was special to them. Yeah,
she wrote this song too. Congratulations to Jen Shots. We
love Mission Point Resort. We're talking about hotels. We're talking
(01:19:05):
about Virtuboso Travel Week and Claude Maullinari down to visit

That's what Tony Cuthbert's claim is. Good morning in the morning.
Speaker 53 (01:19:45):
Got a pinch o there in the middle of the crowd,
mean a little closer, cousin Music's dude, A few mispoon
and we've got.
Speaker 8 (01:19:56):
A little crust.
Speaker 27 (01:19:57):
I know.
Speaker 5 (01:19:58):
The is expected to unveil the thinnest iPhone ever at
its hardware event on September ninth. Here's Michael Kasner.
Speaker 25 (01:20:06):
Today we're going to talk about Apple Watch, air pods,
and iPhone.
Speaker 26 (01:20:10):
Along with iPhone seventeen, Apple is set to release the
seventeen Pro and seventeen Pro Max. Announcements are also expected
on updates for the Apple Watch and air pods. The
iPhone seventeen is expected to be priced at around eight
hundred dollars, the Pro model could cost around one thousand
fifty dollars, and the Pro Max is expected to have
(01:20:30):
a price tag of twelve hundred and fifty.
Speaker 5 (01:20:33):
And groc is touting high ratings on the app Storm
taking aim another Tech Giants after returning from a brief
suspension on x When asked Whyatt's account was removed, the
AI chatbot wrote that the recent remains unclear. However, now
deleted posts. Grok claimed the suspension was due to comments
on Israel and Naza that violated x's hateful conduct rules.
Elon Musk, however, said that GROC doesn't actually know why
(01:20:55):
it was suspended. TECH Report a Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 10 (01:21:03):
Michelle Budhajudge is with the Malta Tourism Authority and I'm
visiting with her here at Virtuoso on our radio broadcast,
and she's just telling me a spell binding story of
her childhood when in history the British Navy sailed away
and Malta became an independent republic.
Speaker 54 (01:21:18):
Then they became in nineteen sixty four, and then in
nineteen seventy nine is when the ships, the final ships
left because as they used to use malt as a base.
Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
So you know, as I said, what happened, what did
you do?
Speaker 13 (01:21:32):
What happened?
Speaker 44 (01:21:33):
My grandfather is a proud Maltese and you know, and
he took all his grandchildren to the Grand Harbor to
wave We had little British and Maltese flags and we
waved the sailors.
Speaker 3 (01:21:47):
Out of the court together with a lot of other kids.
And that was singing.
Speaker 44 (01:21:52):
And though I was very very little, that's still embedded
it was a special occasion for me that i'd done
with my grandfather, how passed away many years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
But also it was a history.
Speaker 44 (01:22:03):
I realized at that point, even so young, that it
was a historic event for us, you know, and Malta,
with eight thousand years of history, had so many historic events,
and you know, and I was proud to be part
of that.
Speaker 8 (01:22:17):
He dressed you all as sailors.
Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
Yeah, my grandmother made us little sailors.
Speaker 44 (01:22:21):
To the girls had sailor dresses and the boys had
the sailor pants with the heads. That was special.
Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
I still have the outfit.
Speaker 10 (01:22:29):
You're kidding, said Botch. History as a child, and then
of course you had history as well. Then our president
Bush came and met with Mikhail Gorrito Malta.
Speaker 44 (01:22:40):
To me, well, Malta, if you look at the location,
you know, we're in the middle of the Mediterranean. So
politically we've always played an important role in bringing the
you know, north to to to south like a middleman.
Our language to him, you know, really speak the only
semi Semitic which left in the world.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
So it's easy for us to speak Arabic and other languages.
And also our official.
Speaker 44 (01:23:05):
Language is English, so we are English speaking. Hence why
it's important, very popular with North Americans to come and
visit because you're going to its ease of communication. But
politically we have always been important. That's why we were
sought after the Nights of Malta, where in Malta after
they were kicked out of rows and spent over two
(01:23:27):
hundred years in Malta called the Ottoman away from mainland
Europe and Malta and I believe Austria were considered the
gate waits of Christianity.
Speaker 8 (01:23:39):
Come to Malta, you'll be treated like a president or the.
Speaker 13 (01:23:41):
British n.
Speaker 5 (01:23:43):
Friends in DC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump
(01:24:06):
is sent to speak virtually with Ukrainian President Zelenski today,
as according to multiple reports, which sent the call, will
also include Vice President Advance and European allies. It all
comes before Trump is sent to meet with Russian President
Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska as he works to
end the fighting between the two countries. Zelensky has said
Ukraine won't give up any territory to Russia and will
(01:24:26):
not give up trying to gain NATO membership. Russia has
demanded Ukraine give up land to reach a deal to
end the war. President Trump may soon get the interest
rate cut he's been asking for from the Fed. That's
because Julia's inflation report was better than expected. White House
Press Secretary of Caroline Levitt celebrated the news.
Speaker 23 (01:24:43):
Today's CPI report revealed that inflation beat market expectations once again,
and inflation remains stable.
Speaker 5 (01:24:51):
The Labor Department shows the Consumer Price Index, a general
measure of how much people are paying for goods and services,
and a key inflation indicator, was up just two tenths
of percent from June. Many economists say the reports should
be evidence that Trump's tariffs are not leading to a
spike in inflation, and now it's safe to cut rates,
possibly as soon as September. The Pentagon plans is set
up a six hundred person National Guard Quick Reaction Force,
(01:25:14):
Brian Shook explains.
Speaker 24 (01:25:15):
According to reports from The Washington Post, a domestic civil
disturbance quick Reaction Force will make hundreds of Guard members
outfitted with weapons and riot gear, deployable in as little
as one hour. The force would be called to US
cities to quell protests or other unrest. I'm Brian Shook.
Speaker 5 (01:25:34):
And Harvey Weinstein, who is set to be sentenced today
in his sex crimes retrial in New York City. The
former Hollywood producer was found guilty of engaging in a
criminal sex act with one woman while being acquitted on
another count involving a different woman. Weinstein was found guilty
in twenty twenty, but the verdict was thrown out because
the judge did not handle the witness testimony properly. You're
listening to the latest from NBC News Radio.
Speaker 21 (01:25:57):
Some relief from obstructive sleep apneus symptoms may be found
by using a conkshell. That's according to a study published
in ERJ Open Research. It found people blowing through a
conkshell daily for several months showed reduced symptoms. Sleep tests
measured fewer sleep apnea episodes per hour, and improved blood
oxygen levels. Researchers say the exercise likely strengthens and tones
(01:26:22):
upper airway muscles. Researchers with the University of Virginia's School
of Medicine have developed an online insomnia treatment. The results
of the clinical trial showed it could help older adults
get better sleep. The university says the trial involved more
than three hundred people between the ages of fifty five
and ninety five. His study found participants had higher quality
(01:26:45):
sleep and woke up less during the night. The treatment
is the first insomnia related digital health program made specifically
for older adults. Health Update, I'm Sarah le Kessler.
Speaker 46 (01:27:06):
There are so many if that viewless far away places
to see, such as Mexico, Sweden, whu I, Japan, and Capri.
Speaker 10 (01:27:17):
We got Wendy Jilette's anchor here with Michael Patrick Shields
radio stations across the state of Michigan and worldwide at
amibig show dot Com from Virtuoso Travel Conference where we met.
I don't know ages ago last night, but a number
of years ago. And it's so nice to see you again.
Speaker 3 (01:27:32):
Nice to see you.
Speaker 10 (01:27:34):
Everybody sees you on CBS. When you were a young girl.
Did you look in the mirror or did you look
at the TV screen and say I can do that.
Speaker 3 (01:27:42):
Well.
Speaker 52 (01:27:42):
I actually pursued acting when I first started thinking about
a career, and then I decided that that was a
pretty tough way to make a living. And I had
also been doing print journalism, and I thought that broadcast
journalism might be a meeting of both fields, the present
and being on air and having to be a motive
(01:28:03):
to some degree, and then also all the things I
loved about journalism, which were helping people, telling people what
was going on in the community, in forming them, writing, All.
Speaker 3 (01:28:14):
Of that I loved.
Speaker 52 (01:28:15):
So when I went to grad school Boston University for
broadcast journalism, I fell madly in love with the profession.
And it was definitely the profession that was perfect for
me as a person, and everything that I love was
sort of encapsulated into my career of broadcast journalism, so.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
It was perfect.
Speaker 10 (01:28:35):
You grew up in the East, yes, New Jersey. Was
there somebody that you saw or read that served as inspiration?
Speaker 8 (01:28:42):
Not really.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
My parents are big news junkies.
Speaker 52 (01:28:46):
We got three newspapers when I was young, The New
York Times, the start Ledger, which was big paper in
New Jersey and has since I believe, almost gone under
or no longer in print form at least, and a
local paper called the Home News.
Speaker 3 (01:29:03):
And that was my first job working at the Home
News and Tribune.
Speaker 52 (01:29:06):
It became that was covering Middlesex County in New Jersey,
and I loved print. I really loved print, but broadcast
really has much more interest for me.
Speaker 10 (01:29:19):
Was it the fame or the journalism that drew you
to the profession. Did you want to be a TV star?
Speaker 52 (01:29:24):
No, No, I wanted to be a journalist. Yeah, but
I loved performing. So the dual aspects of journalism added.
Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
To being on camera, and that whole part of the
job is of course a draw. But no, it wasn't
like I want to be famous.
Speaker 52 (01:29:41):
If I wanted to be famous, I think I think
you should have stayed as an actress.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
But no, that wasn't the drive.
Speaker 52 (01:29:46):
It was more what I wanted to do with my
life and what ignited me and what I felt passionate about.
Speaker 10 (01:29:52):
When you see some of the people now who get
into broadcast journalism, do you get the sense that maybe
they're more interested in the fame than actually reporting.
Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
No, I don't think so. It's very hard to start
in broadcast journalism.
Speaker 52 (01:30:05):
You are a lot of times on your own. You're
an MMJ, which is multimedia journalist. You're doing everything yourself.
The cameras have gotten a lot easier since when I
was in the business, but you moved to a small market.
You do not make much money at all, And so
I think people who are drawn to the profession really
want to be broadcast journalists, not because they think that
(01:30:26):
they're going to be making a million dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
The profession is changing a.
Speaker 52 (01:30:30):
Lot, and right now we're at such a critical time
and certainly salaries are going down, not up. So if
you're looking to make a lot of money and be famous,
you're kind of looking at the wrong career.
Speaker 8 (01:30:43):
You're young.
Speaker 10 (01:30:43):
Maybe you don't remember this, but you're referring to the
equipment when you used to have a deck with a
tape that was separate than the camera and a cord.
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Oh, I do remember that tripod was you know I
started with that? Oh yeah, yeah, I started thirty years ago.
Speaker 8 (01:30:58):
Batteries were heavier than the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:30:59):
It was so heavy.
Speaker 52 (01:31:01):
The tripod weighed probably twenty pounds and that was the
three quarter inch deck.
Speaker 3 (01:31:06):
Yes, and it was a separate deck, and it was
so hard.
Speaker 8 (01:31:09):
I'm not that large.
Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
I'm a five to four and don't weigh too too much,
and it was really hard getting around with the equipment.
I remember my first job, Great Paul's Montana.
Speaker 52 (01:31:22):
It was in a courthouse because I was doing a
lot of court reporting and I had a big incident
with a gear. You had to climb four flights of
stairs with no elevator, and I would always be running
late and running into the courtrooms and while they were
doing arraignments, and the stuff is very heavy and hard
(01:31:43):
to set up, so it's just loud, and they would
always go, matter, you have to get here earlier. But
a lot of times I'd be running to some other
story and so we would get a tip that, oh,
there's a good, good person in court, you should get whatever.
So I didn't always have knowledge beforehand of what.
Speaker 3 (01:32:03):
Was going to happen. But yes, that gear was hillacious.
Speaker 10 (01:32:07):
We're here at a travel conference, of course, virtuoso. But
you went all over America in pursuit of your career,
didn't you.
Speaker 3 (01:32:13):
Yeah, Great Falls, Montana first, then.
Speaker 52 (01:32:17):
To Portland, Maine, and then to San Arizona and then
Cleveland and then New York, which is pretty typical.
Speaker 3 (01:32:24):
You go three four markets before you reach top ten.
Speaker 10 (01:32:28):
What is it like to walk into that now, CBS
Network TV studio, never mind those local affiliates anymore, and
tell us what it's like to sit down. The seconds
are ticking off before you go, the lights are on,
it's cold in there. You get directors and floor directors,
and what does that like to look in that camera
and speak to America.
Speaker 3 (01:32:47):
It's very exciting. It's very exciting.
Speaker 52 (01:32:49):
Every time I anchor a national show, it's always incredibly
thrilling and exciting. And I always get this moment as
we're just about to go live and say, oh my god,
I can't believe I got to this level. I can't
believe honestly that I'm back in New York and covering
news in New York City. It was always my dream
and to be living in New York and experiencing New
(01:33:12):
York and working in New York. When I first came back,
I was at WCBS, which is the flagship CBS affiliated
in New York City.
Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
That's local, and I remember on Christmas Eve, no one
wanted to work on Christmas Eve. I was thrilled. I
was outside Saint Patrick's Cathedral. I'm like, oh my god,
I made it. That's side Saint Patrick's on Christmas.
Speaker 52 (01:33:32):
So it's been a joy to cover everything that happens
in New York City, which is a lot. It's a
huge city and a lot of breaking news and the
epicenter of finance.
Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
I have done a lot on Wall Street.
Speaker 52 (01:33:49):
I launched CBS Money watch for CBS affiliates at the
New York Stock Exchange.
Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
So I was down there for.
Speaker 52 (01:33:57):
About probably six months when I first launched, and then
I would fill in for the person who.
Speaker 3 (01:34:02):
Ended up taking the job. So we are not down
there anymore. That segment ended for CBS, but I was
down there probably on and off for I don't know,
it was eight years tenure or something like that.
Speaker 52 (01:34:14):
So yeah, being able to do all these different stories
and aspects of New York City is thrilling.
Speaker 10 (01:34:21):
In New York's gonna maybe have a very interesting mayor.
And did you ever think that a Cuomo would lose
in a mayoral primary?
Speaker 52 (01:34:27):
I was surprised. I was surprised. This is turning out
to be quite a race. So I cannot make any
predictions about it.
Speaker 10 (01:34:34):
Do you watch yourself on the camera and coach yourself
or do you not do that?
Speaker 52 (01:34:39):
Not so much anymore when I started, and what I
tell people in broadcast journalism is watch every single thing
that you do a lot of people when their first
time television don't like to look at themselves because they
don't like their voice, they don't like their the way
they look.
Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
But you have to watch yourself because that's the only
way you get better.
Speaker 52 (01:34:55):
So when I was starting out, when I was a
morning in noon anchor in Great Falls, Montana, that my
big promotion. I got twelve hundred dollars more after being
a reporter. Yeah, I thought, Yeah, I thought I was
gonna make so much more money. I made like fifty
dollars more a paycheck or.
Speaker 3 (01:35:11):
Something like that.
Speaker 10 (01:35:12):
Take that to CBS Money Watch, Well that was that
was that.
Speaker 3 (01:35:16):
That was back local affiliate.
Speaker 8 (01:35:17):
With that's a Wall Street and see what you can
do with Yeah, not a not a heck.
Speaker 3 (01:35:21):
Of a lot. I almost qualified for for food benefits
so little money. Yeah, that amazing thirteen thousand I think
I started.
Speaker 8 (01:35:30):
At Yeah, that's before taxes.
Speaker 3 (01:35:32):
Yeah, yeah, so it was.
Speaker 52 (01:35:34):
It was very difficult to even survive in Montana. And
but the rent was obviously very.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
Low, but food, food, and car. I had a car.
Speaker 22 (01:35:44):
I had a lease a payment, but you had a
horse maybe out No, I know, no horse, nor there's
no business like show business will continue with when died,
you lett, it's MPs.
Speaker 10 (01:35:53):
In a flash.
Speaker 55 (01:36:00):

INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. Homeless people in Washington,
DC could face jail time amid President Trump's crackdown on
crime in the nation's capital. WHITEO Spress Secretary Caroline Levitt
set on Tuesday that homeless people will be given the
option to leave encampments and be taken to shelters, but
if they refused, they could be hit with fines or
jail time. Texas Governor Greg Abbot is calling for another
(01:38:24):
special session.
Speaker 31 (01:38:25):
Tammy Trujillo reports.
Speaker 32 (01:38:27):
The governor is looking to redraw the state's congressional district
maps as he waits for the Texas Democrats who have
left for blue states across the country. The group of
Democratic lawmakers left Texas to deny the state legislature of
the quorum needed to hold a vote in the current
special session. Abbott says he'll continue calling for new special
sessions until the missing Democrats return.
Speaker 33 (01:38:46):
I'm Tammy Truheo, and two.

Jellette is a CBS news anchor, and it's Michael Patrick
shield Or visiting with her at Virtuoso because she covers
travel as well as hard news stories and she's an anchor.
And with Stephen Colbert leaving CBS, do they will you
get a raise?
Speaker 57 (01:39:23):
Then?
Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
No.
Speaker 52 (01:39:25):
We just had a merger go through. So that's sky
Dance that happened on Thursday. So there's a lot of
questions right now and a lot of worry, I would say,
because we know that they want to cut and we've
already been cut a lot. All the divisions of CBS,
and they offer buyouts to longtime employees.
Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
And a lot of people took it. That just happened.
Speaker 52 (01:39:48):
Well, the deadline was a couple of weeks ago, and
people are leaving next week, so a lot of going
away parties and it's just a time of transition, and
so hopefully I'll see you next year.
Speaker 10 (01:39:59):
He well, as I forget. Now, is Nora O'Donnell still
there or no, she is, she's.
Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
Doing special projects.
Speaker 10 (01:40:05):
Though, Okay, did you work with her?
Speaker 27 (01:40:07):
Ever?
Speaker 10 (01:40:07):
No, never came across her.
Speaker 52 (01:40:09):
No, I've met most of the people at CBS, but
she went down to Washington to anchor, so the whole
show that Evening News went down there, and I'm in
New York, so I never happened to run into her.
Speaker 3 (01:40:19):
I ran into Katie.
Speaker 52 (01:40:21):
Kirk when she was anchory, and I ran into Maurice
who's the current and John Dickerson. I've met them many
many times. They're the current Evening News anchors.
Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
And I met Andy Rooney once.
Speaker 8 (01:40:33):
Oh god, what was he like?
Speaker 3 (01:40:34):
Oh he was such a curmudgeon.
Speaker 43 (01:40:36):
He was like hy you know, it was.
Speaker 3 (01:40:38):
Real, oh real, oh, yes, very real.
Speaker 52 (01:40:40):
Yeah. He would trudge around CBS and he was a
big grum Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:40:47):
I said, oh my gosh, it's so amazing to me know, yeah, okay, yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:40:51):
You thought you were going to get the grandpa treatment,
and he gave you the curmudgeon. I did meet Katie
Kirk one time at someone's house in Beverly Hills. We
had strawberries on a Sunday afternoon, and she was, Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:41:01):
It's nice.
Speaker 10 (01:41:02):
You know, the persona on TV yours is the same,
it seems to me. Although you know, people say you
say that you're small, but you're stylish. You're small, you're blonde, beautiful,
and that's why when you go to a hard hitting story,
I bet they don't see you coming.
Speaker 8 (01:41:18):
Helpful.
Speaker 52 (01:41:19):
Well, I think it's always a nice smile is always
a nice way to start trying to talk to people,
whether they're having the best day.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
Of their life or the worst day of their lives.
And when you're covering.
Speaker 52 (01:41:35):
Big news, it's usually because something really really good has
happened to someone or some community, or really really bad.
Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
Most of the time it's really really bad.
Speaker 33 (01:41:43):
So I try to.
Speaker 52 (01:41:46):
Be very quiet in approaching people and just try to
be human, And I think that is effective because people
at a time, especially when they're suffering, they want kindness.
Speaker 10 (01:42:02):
Did you ever have to approach someone that had just
emerged from a tragedy?
Speaker 3 (01:42:05):
Oh yeah, my whole career.
Speaker 18 (01:42:07):
Oh do you do that?
Speaker 10 (01:42:08):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (01:42:08):
Just as you said, I guess yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
And you never know how people are going to.
Speaker 8 (01:42:14):
Going to react.
Speaker 52 (01:42:18):
So there's been times when people are very kind and
are just in need of talking, and then there's sometimes
when people want to yell. There was one time the
tornado hit in Ohio and a guy was trying wandering
around his front yard trying to find his keys to his.
Speaker 3 (01:42:34):
Car, and I went up to him and he just
went berserk on me. Get away from me, get and
of course, get away from me.
Speaker 52 (01:42:44):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but he was. You know, he's
experiencing the worst trauma of his life. He couldn't figure
out even where his car keys were because everything from
his house was all.
Speaker 8 (01:42:53):
Over the yard.
Speaker 52 (01:42:54):
And imagine that. It's very traumatic. But that's our job
to go talk to these people. And sometimes people do
want to talk. They want help from the public. Are
they they're very in pain, and so they want to
share what's happening. But some people do not, obviously, So yes,
many many, many times. I've talked to people just about
every tragedy you can think of, tons of natural disasters
(01:43:15):
I've covered.
Speaker 10 (01:43:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 52 (01:43:17):
I've traveled for at least five to ten hurricanes, tornadoes,
plane crashes, Jesus, Yeah, just about every major thing that
could happen.
Speaker 8 (01:43:28):
What about the.
Speaker 10 (01:43:28):
Shining moment on the other side that you'll think about,
you know, as the big moment? Maybe was it fun?
Was it a celebrity, was it a world leader? A triumph?
Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
Well, I've done a lot of for me. Launching the
travel series has been a big deal.
Speaker 52 (01:43:45):
So that was three and a half years ago that
I launched this biweekly travel series for CBS TV affiliates.
Speaker 3 (01:43:52):
And it's been amazing.
Speaker 52 (01:43:53):
And I've done a lot of live TV all around
the world because I do live shots in conjunction with
the stories going out, and so some of the more
memorable ones are at the Arctic Circle and a glass
Igluo doing live TV and I remember, I think.
Speaker 3 (01:44:08):
Guy, I can't believe I'm on live television is.
Speaker 52 (01:44:10):
From a glass iglu And I went to Santa Claus
village that's in romani Ami, Finland.
Speaker 57 (01:44:15):
Wow.
Speaker 52 (01:44:16):
Yeah, So the travel series has been a real game
changer in terms of my career. I still do the
regular news, so it's a lot to balance.
Speaker 8 (01:44:26):
I would say it's quite a contrast.
Speaker 10 (01:44:27):
I see you in Fiji one minute, and the next
minute there you are in Lower Manhattan.
Speaker 3 (01:44:31):
Yes, yes, it is a contrast.
Speaker 52 (01:44:33):
But I like that balance because hard news is really
what impacts people the most. I love doing travel journalism,
and I want to inspire people to travel.
Speaker 3 (01:44:44):
It's one of my big goals and passions.
Speaker 52 (01:44:47):
However, I always want to be sort of quote unquote
regular journalist to inform the public of what's happening in
the world, because I think that is the most important.
Speaker 3 (01:44:58):
A part of journalism.
Speaker 10 (01:45:00):
You're in the New York circles, have you met or
do you know Maureen Callahan by any chance?
Speaker 27 (01:45:04):
No.
Speaker 10 (01:45:05):
Marien Callahan writes for the Daily Mail, and she wrote
for The Post, and she has a podcast now and
just today or yesterday, she broke her It's called the Nerve.
She totally took down Diana Ross's daughter, who has a
travel show now on Roku. And it was across what
do you call it in a courtroom.
Speaker 8 (01:45:23):
And you just totally take it, just destroyed her.
Speaker 10 (01:45:26):
She did an interview her, but she and the point
of it was so many people who go and create
travel content we call it now are more interested in
themselves and the pictures of themselves shopping or whatever, being
in a luxury hotel than the culture or what they
might be sharing with the rest of us. I'm sure
you're old school about that kind of thing. Yeah.
Speaker 52 (01:45:48):
Well, I'm the newscast, so I'm still a newsperson, so
I'm usually in the story once, maybe twice, a little
glimpse of me. But the stand up, when you're on
camera for ten or fifteen seconds, that's a traditional way
of telling a story, and so I do stand ups
all over the world.
Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
But beyond that, no, I mean, I don't. I'm not
Instagram influencer.
Speaker 52 (01:46:12):
I'm trying to stick to a very small topic. So
a lot of travel journalism is, oh, we can show
you what's new in this place.
Speaker 3 (01:46:21):
That's not really what I do.
Speaker 52 (01:46:22):
I do trend stories because they have to air a newscast,
so they have to be newsworthy.
Speaker 8 (01:46:27):
Wendy ju Lett's CBS News.
Speaker 10 (01:46:29):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(01:46:53):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow down stream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield the Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
(01:47:13):
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts
with shedding light on the entire cost equation from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit mibluedaily

Mets towards the Brave snap their seven game slide Pee

it means a lot to be among the best.
Speaker 38 (01:47:50):
Realm of the possibility to be a franchise home run leader,
to have that opportunity you really don't think about, and
I mean that's it's a wild dream, to be honest,
and it's it's really special.

Everybody's singing out our way we go. It's a way
we go every way you go, though.
Speaker 8 (01:49:14):
It's just a simple little thing.
Speaker 58 (01:49:17):
That's something about it makes you want to sing from
Maine to California back to Kenny.
Speaker 10 (01:49:24):
Thought she got away, but she just mentioned that she's
coming to Michigan when Nija led everybody, and so I
wanted to find out when and where because it's in
the middle of a twenty destination schedule and the Mitten
is there. I mean, are you ever going to slow down?
Speaker 3 (01:49:39):
Oh geez, I don't know.
Speaker 52 (01:49:41):
Last year I traveled about two thirds of the time,
and I said that is too much, and I'm going
to try to lessen it.
Speaker 3 (01:49:47):
And then this year I'm traveling more than that, so.
Speaker 8 (01:49:50):
That didn't work out. So well.
Speaker 3 (01:49:52):
I'm going to be in Michigan the last week.
Speaker 10 (01:49:54):
Of September, so it's a nice time.
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
Yeah, I think I could do some leaf peeping, go
for a ride on a lake. I just don't.
Speaker 52 (01:50:03):
I have no idea where I'm going. Yeah, I think
I'm starting in Detroit, but I don't know beyond that, So.
Speaker 3 (01:50:09):
We shall see.
Speaker 10 (01:50:10):
Ironically, when I said, are you going to slow down?
That's the reason you're coming to Michigan to talk about
that very thing.
Speaker 52 (01:50:16):
Yeah, I'm doing a story on slow travel, which means
slowing down the itinerary, not doing a million things a day,
sometimes not even planning anything, just wandering and doing small
road trips and that sort of thing. It's pairing with
a destination. In California, it was Monterey County.
Speaker 10 (01:50:39):
Well, in Ireland, the tourism Ireland for a while had
a phrase called go where Ireland takes you, And I
always thought that was keen because people go there and
they say, oh, look, Killarney's only thirty k from Trulli,
and they overbook and they missed the opportunity to actually
experience a surprise or something spontaneous.
Speaker 8 (01:50:57):
Is that what you mean by slow travel?
Speaker 52 (01:50:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 18 (01:51:00):
And I do a lot of that because yeah, I well.
Speaker 8 (01:51:05):
Doesn't sound like it. You call bs on yourself right there.
Speaker 3 (01:51:10):
Yeah, I have so many things going on, it's hard
to do that.
Speaker 10 (01:51:14):
But you've been to Michigan before, only Detroit, so nowhere
else auto show or something?
Speaker 3 (01:51:20):
Auto show several years.
Speaker 52 (01:51:22):
Yes, Actually, when I was in Cleveland, I always covered
the auto show.
Speaker 10 (01:51:26):
So what do you drive.
Speaker 3 (01:51:27):
I don't drive New Yorker coming New York. Yeah, most
of New Yorkers don't have cars.
Speaker 10 (01:51:33):
Yeah, big city girl. Well, well, thank you for coming
to Michigan, and thank you again for this interview, and
thank you for not slowing down too much because we
like seeing you behind the anchor desk and in travel
and especially in person.
Speaker 3 (01:51:44):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (01:51:52):

You were drinking pretty heavily.
Speaker 7 (02:00:39):
Were you there?
Speaker 9 (02:00:39):
You must go to work.
Speaker 13 (02:00:41):
It's hump day, your favorite day.

Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.
Speaker 10 (02:00:56):
Good morning World, Good morning Michigan. How come you play
clips about drinking when you're introducing Tim McGuire and Matt Rhodes.
I'm not saying I'm just saying. Matt Rhoades the proprietor
of Dusty Cellar on Grand River, a little east of
the Meridian Mall. You can find him at Dustysellar dot
(02:01:18):
com and you can once in a while find Tim
McGuire in there too. He was a longtime executive director

Matt Rhodes, welcome to the program sir.
Speaker 47 (02:01:33):
Good morning, Michael Patrick.

Good hear from you, Thank you you too.
Speaker 10 (02:01:36):
And Tim McGuire welcome back to the radio stage.
Speaker 57 (02:01:41):
Good morning Michael Patrick. It's great to hear your voice.
And you must be having a gas out there at
the trail.
Speaker 10 (02:01:50):
It has been a gas at Virtue WESO Travel Week
in Las Vegas. But the big news coming out of
Dusty Cellar, well, there are a couple of big stories.
First off, you know Tim McGuire, I don't think he's
a craft beer kind of drinker. I think he's a
Budweiser loyalist. Once in a while he'll vary a little
bit light beer from Miller.
Speaker 13 (02:02:10):
Who knows.
Speaker 10 (02:02:12):
But Matt, you've got something special to pour for him
that we've been waiting for in Michigan for it seems
like a long time now.
Speaker 47 (02:02:19):
Yep, they've been talking about bringing in Yngling from Pennsylvania's
America's oldest brewery founded in eighteen twenty nine.
Speaker 7 (02:02:29):
It's now a sixth.
Speaker 47 (02:02:30):
Generations family operation and it's now in Michigan and everybody's
loving to see it.
Speaker 10 (02:02:37):
Congratulations. And how would you describe the taste of Yngling
And is was it just you know, the mystique to
it because it was not, you know, possible to have
it here.
Speaker 47 (02:02:50):
I would say that is the most The biggest factor
was that you just curiously if you can't get it,
everybody wants it. So but it's a traditional, traditional lagger.
It's amber and color, it's rich, it's creamy, and last
time I had it was probably twenty thirty years ago,
so I was eager to try it again myself the
(02:03:11):
other day. And it's a wonderful beer and a great story.
Speaker 10 (02:03:16):
You'd have it on draft or in bottle.
Speaker 7 (02:03:18):
We have it on a draft.
Speaker 47 (02:03:20):
The bows and cans are due here the week of
September sixth, so they're not far behind the I'd be
able to take.
Speaker 10 (02:03:27):
One home, okay. And the other news from Dusty Cellar
is you won't be drinking a yingling and the wine bar.
Speaker 28 (02:03:35):
No.
Speaker 27 (02:03:36):
No.
Speaker 47 (02:03:36):
We made the difficult decision, say a difficult personal decision
to shut down the wine bar temporarily. But it was
an easy business decision just in terms of the extreme
cost of labor and cost of goods versus what our
income was. It just didn't make sense to continue operating
as we were. So we're looking at a new concept
(02:03:57):
to run the wine bar in a more efficient manner.
Speaker 10 (02:04:00):
Oh so it will emerge in some other capacity.
Speaker 47 (02:04:04):
That's that's my thought.
Speaker 7 (02:04:05):
We're working on it.
Speaker 47 (02:04:05):
I don't have the concept yet or the idea. But
everything else that the tap room is going on as usual,
you know, retail, bakery, catering, gift basket, salt, all other
operations of Dusties are full, full steam ahead.
Speaker 10 (02:04:20):
Will the penny pasta, that alfredo pasta you had at
the wine bar, well, can you get that at tap room?
Speaker 47 (02:04:27):
You sure can, absolutely one of the favorites.
Speaker 10 (02:04:33):
It is bad. You gotta you can't schedule anything after
you eat that. You gotta go right to sleep when
you come with that one. Tim McGuire, I don't know
if you've ever had a Yingling.
Speaker 6 (02:04:43):
Have you?
Speaker 10 (02:04:45):
Yes?
Speaker 52 (02:04:45):
I had.
Speaker 57 (02:04:46):
Tom Hixton, one of our mutual friends in Washington d
turned me onto yingling some time ago, and you know,
get it in Michigan. So it wasn't something that I
would have that just to drink in Washington d C.
That's where I started drinking and tasting the England. And
it's a very good beer. And I'll have to stop
(02:05:11):
down at the tap room and try one and see
how Matt pours it. If it's all right, Yeah, let
me know when you're coming to him.
Speaker 7 (02:05:18):
I'll join you.
Speaker 10 (02:05:20):
Yeah, and you could have had one at fire Keeper's
Casino yesterday. They fired it up as well. And you
fired it up at the casino with a little spree
with Jim Trabillcock. He's been known to darken the door
at Dusty's tap Room from time to time too. But
you guys made a casino run.
Speaker 57 (02:05:36):
We went down to fire Keepers yesterday, And I think
that part of my story is that a smooth ride
down there, no construction, no impediments. We made it down
there and just without any impediments, any roadblocks or detours.
So that was really lovely and got there, and you know,
(02:06:00):
when you're traveling with a card shark like Jim Chipilcock,
you just know that he's gonna he's in a room
in that casino, and the place is just gonna look up.
But it was quite lively. There were a lot of
people there. The staff, of course, was just excellent, and
you know you have on your show talking about the
(02:06:21):
dealers and and they'd help you or not. And I
was really quite surprised, I guess or thrilled that I
sat down at the blackjack table and there were three
women there and the dealer really helped them out. And unfortunately,
or I guess fortunately for the woman sitting next side
(02:06:43):
of me, she got three black jacks in a row.
And I guess I was just in the wrong seat,
But three in a row, I've never seen that before.
Speaker 10 (02:06:52):
Did she leave right then or reinvest it?
Speaker 57 (02:06:55):
Well, she I left, and I don't know what she did.
Speaker 28 (02:06:59):
She might have reinvented.
Speaker 57 (02:07:01):
But it was a lot of fun. The staff ere
is just so accommodating, and the place was really jumping
and lively. It was interesting too. I was walking in
the middle of the casino and I heard mister Maguire
and I looked and it was Peter Ziggenfuss, who had
worked at the Country Club of Lansing for about forty
(02:07:22):
years and retired four years ago. And he's very famous
at the Country Club of land because they have a
dish on the menu to this day which is called Puss.
Speaker 10 (02:07:33):
So it's good to see him and his wife, Daddy
Chicken ziggin Fuss. I've had that, and I think, if
I'm not mistaken, your sister likes that very much.
Speaker 57 (02:07:44):
Oh, that's her favorite. That's her favorite. And it's a
really lovely dish. It's chicken in a pastry, a little
bit of cream, cheese and scallions and it's delightful. And
it was his mother city, so the zigg and Goods
name goes on.
Speaker 10 (02:08:00):
And it was Jim trabill Cock's birthday, and he's a
veterand that was very sweet of you to get together
with him. And he told me a sidebar. You both
finished ahead. You were winners Winter Winter Chicken Leges.
Speaker 57 (02:08:12):
Otherwise right right, Jim wise would be proud. We both
walked out of there with more money that we walked
in with. And and my saving grace was I was
walking through the casino and I was looking looking around,
searching around and looking at all the slot machines, which
one I would venture into and put them in? And
(02:08:34):
so I found a slot machine with nobody around, and
I thought, Oh the heck, I'll just put five bucks in.
I put five bucks in. Oh I got seventy five
dollars back.
Speaker 10 (02:08:45):
So wow, Gladys Shields would be proud of you too
for that one. She's a slot player. Matt Rhodes and
Tim McGuire, two of the great uh imbibers in the
history of drinking with MPs.

a tribute on Instagram, saying his struggle is over and
he's an eternal peace in God's presence. Harvey Weinstein is

(02:13:14):
you're listening right here on one of the great radio
stations across the state of Michigan. And I hope that
you will please visit the advertisers you hear on this program.
We want to thank Enbridge Energy for their participation, Oakland
University in Rochester, Michigan, and Americans for Prosperity and aa RP.
And that's where we turn. Next to the radio stage,
(02:13:36):
Paula Cunningham, the state director of aa ARP Michigan. She's unforgettable,
as nat King Cole used to sing about, until one
day she might not be. And that's a reality that
some of us have to face. And that's what we're
talking about this morning. Thank you for being here.
Speaker 49 (02:13:55):
Thank you Michael Patrick. I've missed you. I haven't talked
to you for a while, so I'm glad to be
on the show.
Speaker 10 (02:14:00):
Lovely to hear your voice. And you know, I used
to go visit my grandmother. And my grandmother was the
first woman ever poured me a beer. And I was
a young boy, and I used to go and visit her.
And as the visits went on, sometimes she would tell
me stories over and over, even in the same conversation,
and I never was quite sure whether to say, Grandma,
(02:14:22):
you already told me that, or just you know, be
engaged in the story again as if I was hearing
it for the first time. And then sometimes she would
say things like, oh, yeah, I went to Miami Beach
for dinner last night. I said, you did, and obviously
we know what she was afflicted with. That is what
you are going to tell us. There is a place
(02:14:44):
not only physically but emotionally for people who suffer from
memory care and memory loss.
Speaker 49 (02:14:50):
Absolutely, absolutely absolutely, and memory care that both of them actually,
because the caregivers for those who are suffering with memory
loss is extremely stressful. Well, just like with your grandmother,
may if you were able to really understand what was
going on, or you're the one taking care of her,
it probably would have broken your heart, but at the
same time, there was nothing else you'd rather do than
take care of her. And so for caregivers as well
(02:15:12):
as those who are going through dementia, any type of dementia,
whether it's Alzheimer's or whatever, lugar disease, whatever type of
dementia is, even Parkinson's is a form of dementia. We
are just absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the Lancing
Care Foundation and doctor Michael Shafer, who is a physician.
He is a neuro psychiatrist, a psychologist. I'm sorry out
(02:15:34):
working for University of Michigan Sparrow and we've partnered with
them now and they are going to pull their full
resources to open up a news center, a memory cafe
in East Lancing at the Hannah Center in East Lansing,
Michigan for both the caregiver and the patient. And what
AARP has been doing for the last five or six
(02:15:55):
years over at the Lancing Mall in terms of Etho's Place,
which is a memory they as well having resources available
for the caregiver and also having fun activities for the
person going through dementia and whether it was singing, whether
it was puzzled, whether it was decorating, just some activities
for them to do as well while the caregiver gets
(02:16:16):
a little bit of a respite and finds out what
kind of help is available. It's a fun time, it's
an engaging time. It's a time to find good information
to know even more importantly, Michael, that you're not alone,
that you're not the only one going through this so
we are excited about expanding this program and working with
the Landing Care Foundation.
Speaker 10 (02:16:38):
So the Greater Lancing Memory Cafe is not necessarily a
physical place. It's a gathering group.
Speaker 49 (02:16:46):
It's a gathering group. It may end up being a
physical place, but actually get started, we're you know, we're
pulling people together in a community center, and as it
gets started, it may actually be a physical space. There's
so many opportunities for others to engage with this type
of a program, whether it's pharmaceuticals, healthcare, you know, it's
just a living facilities that it could end up being that.
(02:17:09):
We've already been asked if we could do something similar
in Jackson, Michigan, and I know there's yeah, so you know,
it could, it could expand, But the idea isn't so
much having that physical one space. A dedicated space is
having a dedicated time, dedicated location for people to come to,
easy parking, a bus route. Doctor Schaeffer and his foundation
(02:17:31):
have even talked about the possibility of going to pick
people up in underrepresented communities. We may not be able
to get to the hand of center, so we're hoping
that we can get as many people as possible. You
know with Eppel's Place, we looked at our think our
high attendance was around fifty or sixty during the holidays.
Were looking at doubling that number and serving even more
(02:17:51):
people and also serving the caregivers. That's important element to
this as well.
Speaker 10 (02:17:58):
The Greater Lansing Care Foundation is when you can get
more information about the Greater Lancing Memory Cafe, which will
meet monthly and there is no charge or anything like that,
and it's a stigma free space and you can connect
other caregivers and share the experiences. Do you bring the
person who's afflicted with memory loss too?
Speaker 49 (02:18:19):
Yes, yes, the caregiver and the individual who they both
come together and that's used to the more comfortable, comfortable
scenario because you know, people who have memory loss they
want to go with what they're familiar with, so the
person who's caring for them is the person that they're
familiar with. But once they get in the room, once
(02:18:40):
they get in the space, we have our phenomenal AARP
volunteers who are working at every one of these events,
that event, at every one of these programs, and the
patient gets to know the volunteers and they start calling.
Speaker 48 (02:18:53):
Them by name.
Speaker 49 (02:18:54):
So the caregiver can then go to another room. The
caregiver can go, you know, some other space and get
a break to be fool. You're gonna have food there
for them to eat. It's going to be just a
place for them to get together, rest, relax and learn
what's going on and know they're not alone.
Speaker 28 (02:19:12):
Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 10 (02:19:14):
They might say, you know, does this happen to you?
And say yeah, that happens to me too, And they say, oh, okay, right,
we're shooting the experience. And I don't know. I forget.
I'm fifty eight years old. I forget things, and I
always wonder is that just a normal course of business
or you know the beginning.
Speaker 49 (02:19:30):
Let me put your mind, Let me put your mind
at ease. When you go into basement and you or
go upstairs and you go up serious and say what
did I come up here for? That's not the that's
not the But if you go upstairs and you go
where am I? Then you've got a problem.
Speaker 10 (02:19:44):
Okay, Well that's very practical advice and comforting too for
the moment. We don't know what the future holds, but
we know that the Greater Lancingcarefoundation dot org is where
you can get information to share your experiences. Thank you,
Paula Cunningham AARP.
Speaker 5 (02:20:00):
Apple is expected to unveil the thinnest iPhone ever at
its hardware event on September ninth. Here's Michael Kasner.
Speaker 25 (02:20:07):
Today, we're going to talk about Apple Watch, air Pods,
and iPhone.
Speaker 26 (02:20:11):
Along with iPhone seventeen, Apple is set to release the
seventeen Pro and seventeen Pro Max. Announcements are also expected
on updates for the Apple Watch and air pods. The
iPhone seventeen is expected to be priced at around eight
hundred dollars, the Pro model could cost around one thousand
fifty dollars, and the Pro Max is expected to have
a price tag of twelve hundred and fifty.
Speaker 5 (02:20:33):
And Groc is touting high ratings on the app Store
and taking aim another Tech Giants. After returning from a
brief suspension on X. When asked, Wyatt's account was removed,
the AI chatbot wrote that the recent remains unclear. However,
now deleted posts, Grok claimed the suspension was due to
comments on Israel and Naza that violated x's hateful conduct rules.
Elon Musk, however, said that Groc doesn't actually know Wyatt
(02:20:55):
was suspended. Tech report by Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 10 (02:21:07):
Michigan's Big Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, Patricia Alfonso Dos
is here all the way from Barbados with Ocean Hotels,
and you just introduced me here at Virtue also to
a concept called service with a soul. Yeah, that's what
we'll find out your properties in Barbados.
Speaker 8 (02:21:23):
What does that mean and what can we all learn
from that?
Speaker 48 (02:21:26):
So service with soul is something that's near and there
to my heart.
Speaker 60 (02:21:29):
It means that you should leave with heart and then
you follow with technical skills. So if you're looking at
every interaction with the guests from the perspective of making
sure that you leave a memorable impression, then even if
it's not technically correct, they're gonna have had an amazing
experience or an amazing memory to take hope.
Speaker 18 (02:21:49):
So that's service with soul from Michael.
Speaker 10 (02:21:53):
And how do you teach that or is it in
the hiring or is it in the corporate philosophy or
how do.
Speaker 48 (02:21:59):
You do a lot of it is in the hiring.
Speaker 60 (02:22:02):
We spend a lot of time in that process kind
of interviewing our most basic line staff positions, interviewing them,
onboarding them, making sure that they understand the philosophy and
the product that we're offering. And I'm really giving them
the opportunity to bring their own personality to that experience.
I don't want, you know, cookie cutt of forms of
(02:22:22):
you know, yeah, interesting, They need to set the table correctly,
but they can do it with their own kind of
little personal style.
Speaker 10 (02:22:29):
Are people that from Barbados colorful and soulful to begin with?
Speaker 60 (02:22:34):
Yes, they are colorful, and so I mean that's one
of the hard things about managing them, because you want
you want people to have their own personal you know,
input into the experience and into.
Speaker 49 (02:22:46):
Any form of learning.
Speaker 18 (02:22:48):
But they also have to be their Barbadians are.
Speaker 60 (02:22:51):
Well educated, very confident, many of them well traveled, and
so they always want to bring their perspective to the table.
So yes, but you have to be able to kind
of find a way to mold that in a productive way.
Speaker 10 (02:23:05):
Would you give me thirty seconds on Ocean Hotels Barbados?
Speaker 60 (02:23:09):
So Ocean Hotels is a fresh, neal take on luxury
in Barbadoes. We're not the white glove technically correct perfect
you know, yes or no amount service, You're going to
know you're in Barbados. You're going to know that you
feel welcome and you're going to want to come back.
Speaker 10 (02:23:25):
Well, well that's a very keen point because a sense
of place and an authentic experience seems to be what
people are really searching for. You if they go to Barbados,
they don't want to be beach anywhere. They want to
be beach Barbados and ocean hotels. Barbados is a good
place to do it. Thank you for your soul.
Speaker 60 (02:23:41):
Thank you so much for this.
Speaker 8 (02:23:43):
God bless you.
Speaker 10 (02:23:44):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (02:24:02):
INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump is sent
to speak virtually with Ukrainian President Zelenski today as according
to multiple reports which sent the call will also include
Vice President Advance and European allies. It all comes before
Trump is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin
on Friday in Alaska as he works to end the
fighting between the two countries. Zelensky has said Ukraine won't
(02:24:25):
give up any territory to Russia and will not give
up trying to gain NATO membership. Russia has demanded Ukraine
give up land to reach a deal to end the war.
President Trump may soon get the interest rate cut he's
been asking for from the Fed. That's because July's inflation
report was better than expected. White House Press Secretary of
Caroline Levitt celebrated the news.
Speaker 23 (02:24:44):
Today's CPI report revealed that inflation beat market expectations once
again and inflation remains stable.
Speaker 5 (02:24:51):
The Labor Department shows the Consumer Price Index, a general
measure of how much people are paying for goods and services,
and a key inflation indicator, was up just two time
months of a percent from June. Many economists say the
reports should be evidence that Trump's tariffs are not leading
to a spike in inflation, and now it's safe to
cut rates, possibly as soon as September. The Pentagon plans
is set up a six hundred person National Guard Quick Reaction.
Speaker 24 (02:25:14):
Force, Brian Shook explains, according to reports from The Washington Post,
a domestic civil disturbance quick Reaction Force will make hundreds
of Guard members outfitted with weapons and riot gear, deployable
in as little as one hour. The force would be
called to US cities to quell protests or other unrest.
I'm Brian Shook.
Speaker 5 (02:25:35):
And Harvey Weinstein, who is set to be sentenced today
in his sex crimes retrial. In New York City. The
former Hollywood producer was found guilty of engaging in a
criminal sex act with one woman while being acquitted on
another count involving a different woman. Weinstein was found guilty
in twenty twenty, but the verdict was thrown out because
the judge did not handle the witness testimony properly. You're
(02:25:55):
listening to the latest from NBC News Radio.
Speaker 21 (02:25:58):
Some relief from obstructives sleep apnea symptoms may be found
by using a conkshell. That's according to a study published
in ERJ Open Research. It found people blowing through a
conkshell daily for several months showed reduced symptoms. Sleep tests
measured fewer sleep apnea episodes per hour, and improved blood
(02:26:18):
oxygen levels. Researchers say the exercise likely strengthens and tones
upper airway muscles. Researchers with the University of Virginia's School
of Medicine have developed an online insomnia treatment. The results
of the clinical trial showed it could help older adults
get better sleep. The university says the trial involved more
(02:26:38):
than three hundred people between the ages of fifty five
and ninety five. The study found participants had higher quality
sleep and woke up less during the night. The treatment
is the first insomnia related digital health program made specifically
for older adults. Health Update. I'm Sarah le Kessler, Tony Kay.

Speaker 9 (02:27:16):

Misty bellas Global public Relations Vice President at Virtuoso. As
we're wrapping up our broadcast this week, but it doesn't
end here. The world is your oyster at Virtuoso dot com.
Thank you for having us, and I'm very sorry that
all this news being generated here got overshadowed by the
breaking news that you're representing in your outfit today.
Speaker 12 (02:27:51):
Well, I have to say, even though I love my
company Virtuoso and Virtuoso Travel Week every year, I am
not sad about the Taylor Swift news.
Speaker 48 (02:28:00):
I am quite excited.
Speaker 12 (02:28:02):
As a dedicated Swifty that there is a new album
coming out soon. In fact, I went online this morning
before all of our appointments and pre ordered the vinyl
copy for my daughter.
Speaker 8 (02:28:13):
Vinyl and you had to tell Maddie what a vinyl is.
Kids don't even know that, do they.
Speaker 48 (02:28:18):
I actually don't have to tell her.
Speaker 12 (02:28:20):
She has her own record player and she has all
the Taylor's Swift albums on vinyl.
Speaker 48 (02:28:27):
They collect them because you know she does.
Speaker 12 (02:28:28):
Them in multiple pollers and of course different artwork, and
so yes, she's quite smart about that.
Speaker 10 (02:28:35):
I think if I were listening and I were the
Taylor Swift organization, I would try to steal you away
from Virtuo so and you run their global.
Speaker 8 (02:28:42):
Pr However, maybe Maddie.
Speaker 10 (02:28:44):
Who has been to the concerts with you, could listen
to the album and come on the radio with me
by phone and give me a music review.
Speaker 12 (02:28:52):
I have to tell you, Maddie would love nothing more
to share her fandom with you. Yeah, she's a swifty
through and through.
Speaker 10 (02:29:00):
You're cutting edge here always at Virtuoso, even in the
travel week that you're holding right now. I got a
hair cut upstairs here at Aria from a Russian bartender bartender.
Speaker 8 (02:29:10):
That's more likely haircut barber.
Speaker 10 (02:29:13):
And she was hilarious and she says to me, you
must have been something twenty years ago.
Speaker 12 (02:29:19):
Well, yes, that's quite the Las Vegas compliment, isn't it.
Speaker 48 (02:29:24):
But this is what happens when you get a haircut
from a bartender.
Speaker 8 (02:29:27):
Well, everything showbiz, everything's entertainment.
Speaker 10 (02:29:30):
But what I meant by cutting edge too is you
took us yesterday over to Fontainebleau into a room that
none of us will ever be able to get into again.
Speaker 8 (02:29:38):
It's a beautiful private spot.
Speaker 10 (02:29:40):
And tonight you're taking people to the F one ground
prex Plaza and I don't know if you've been there
yet or you've been in the simulator, but buckle up.
Speaker 48 (02:29:49):
No I haven't. I'm quite excited about that.
Speaker 12 (02:29:53):
This is a very adrenaline fueled week here because we're
on the go from morning well into the night and
lots of meetings and networking and wonderful human connections. But
I have to say there's something really fun and exciting
about getting behind the wheel tonight, and I guess I
have a little need for speed.
Speaker 46 (02:30:12):
Well.
Speaker 10 (02:30:12):
Your panelist from Australia yesterday was talking about the fact
that she finds people are traveling for events, sporting events,
concerts like you did with Maddie for instance, and Formula
one is one of those, and they don't have those
in places that aren't exotic or exciting and also sometimes
hard to book.
Speaker 12 (02:30:29):
F one is a huge driver, no pun intended of
travel right now because people are looking for those experiences.
Speaker 48 (02:30:36):
Also F one is a very high end luxury experience.
Speaker 12 (02:30:40):
So if you can build something around that, if you
are going to Imola in Italy and enjoining F one there,
why would you just do that when you're in the
heart of Italy where there's parmeham and Parmesan cheese and
all the other wonderful things that Italy's responsible for.
Speaker 48 (02:30:56):
So you want to stay and enjoy more of that destination.
Speaker 12 (02:30:59):
And so we find amongst our client tel that they
are really looking to travel the world. They get the
F one experience, and it varies from location to location,
but then they stay there longer and they enjoy it
and turn it into an overall much longer holiday.
Speaker 10 (02:31:14):
We've got World Cup coming up, we got the Olympics
coming up, and all of that you might not get
access to if you don't go.
Speaker 8 (02:31:20):
Through Virtuoso and Virtuoso dot Com.
Speaker 10 (02:31:23):
I will tell you when you go in the simulator
tonight at the F one ground Prix Plaza. I tried
it last week and I got in, you know, you
put everything on, you get buckled in, and I looked down.
Speaker 8 (02:31:33):
I was trying not to crash because it.
Speaker 10 (02:31:35):
Was very realistic, and I looked on it at my
speed and I said, MPs, you're going eighty miles an hour.
First of all, you're not going to get hurt. It's
a simulator, but it seemed realistic. And then I said,
this car is not made to go eighty.
Speaker 48 (02:31:50):
So Lando Norris, you're not is what you're saying.
Speaker 8 (02:31:53):
I was terrified.
Speaker 12 (02:31:55):
Yeah, I have to admit I drive a Volvo SUV,
so we're talking.
Speaker 48 (02:32:01):
About safety is job one for me.
Speaker 12 (02:32:03):
So I don't know that I'm going to be the
speed demon that I think I am in my head,
but I'm looking forward to at least putting it to
the test to see.
Speaker 44 (02:32:10):
Well.
Speaker 10 (02:32:10):
You'll find it straightaway because they recreate the Las Vegas
track here, and there's one right in front of this
very hotel Bellagio and Aria where you can open it up.
Speaker 8 (02:32:19):
But after about halfway through, I stopped and the attendant
came over.
Speaker 13 (02:32:22):
So what happened?
Speaker 10 (02:32:23):
I said, that's enough. But it was a top quality
attraction and a top quality experience. And this is to
the point, even when you're having travel week where people
are coming here to have a concept, it's an event.
It's a real situation where you give access to things.
Otherwise people wouldn't.
Speaker 12 (02:32:40):
Get Yeah, you know, we're forty eight hundred people here
from one hundred and seven countries. These are the people
who are responsible for making luxury travel experiences happen all
over the world for virtuous applients. But when we're here,
we want to show them luxury experiences. We want them
to see what Las Vegas is all about. Because everyone
has this vision what Las Vegas is. But when you're
(02:33:02):
spending time at the Poodle Room at the very top
of the Fountain Blue, in this gorgeous setting with a
view of Las Vegas I've never seen before, having great
drinks and great food, and when you're having this f
one experience, or when you're going to a show or
whatever it is, it's a way to show off the
luxury experiences within Las Vegas as well.
Speaker 8 (02:33:24):
When is your next appearance on The Today Show?
Speaker 12 (02:33:27):
I am happy to say I'm on August twenty eighth,
so it's coming up in just a couple of weeks.
Speaker 10 (02:33:32):
Circle the date August twenty eighth, The Today Show on NBC,
Michigan's Big Show starring Michael Patrick Shields and The Today Show.
Speaker 8 (02:33:40):
I'm very honored and Liberason, do you know what they're
going to ask.
Speaker 12 (02:33:43):
You yet, I'm not entirely sure what I'm talking about,
but as a general theme, I typically do segments around
how to travel favorite television shows and.
Speaker 10 (02:33:52):
Films, Oh, how to go to destinations where the films
were shot, and that kind of thing.
Speaker 12 (02:33:58):
I love that topic exactly, going to the destination lawyer
In's film, or how do you have how do we
create a similar experience. Sometimes you can't necessarily go to
those locations. Sometimes they're done on sets and green screens
and everything else.
Speaker 48 (02:34:11):
But can you have that experience? Yeah, you really can.
Speaker 10 (02:34:15):
I had a man tell me one of your providers
from Morocco that in Casablanca they actually had to build
a Rick's American Cafe because it didn't really exist because
they didn't shoot that movie in Casablanca in Morocco, but
people were looking on it.
Speaker 48 (02:34:28):
You have to have that experience that you're going there.
Speaker 12 (02:34:31):
So yeah, I mean the destinations have become really smart
about realizing they've got something there that people want, that
people are inspired by this. I mean, White Lotus is
sort of the epitome of that, but others do it
as well. Emily in Paris is another big one, but
Jurassic Jurassic Park. Yeah, Thailand, but we figured out how
(02:34:55):
to have that Thailand experience with you.
Speaker 48 (02:34:58):
Some Jurassic themed offerings at the hotel.
Speaker 12 (02:35:02):
And these don't always bring the main experiences either, but
you know they're fun and we do them really all
over the world.
Speaker 48 (02:35:08):
In showcase and how you can have a similar experience.
Speaker 8 (02:35:11):
The best web addressed to start your journey.

Speaker 10 (02:35:18):
The next Bellas we have on the air will be
Mattie Bellis with the review of Taylor Swift's new story
of a Showgirl.
Speaker 8 (02:35:24):
I think it's called The show Girl.
Speaker 12 (02:35:26):
Yeah, that's the new album.
Speaker 48 (02:35:28):
No date yet, but I'm dressed in orange and I'm.
Speaker 35 (02:35:30):
Ready for it.
Speaker 10 (02:35:31):
Frank Sinatra said, orange is the happiest color, and you're
one of the happiest people we know.
Speaker 8 (02:35:35):
Thank you, Thank you so.
Speaker 48 (02:35:36):
Much, Michael Patrick Sheeles. We are so happy to always
have you here.
Speaker 8 (02:35:39):
It's an honor.
Speaker 10 (02:35:58):
Have you ever wondered why health and surance costs seem
to keep going up? I was doing some research online
and I stumbled upon some surprising information on Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Michigan's websitemibluedaily dot com slash affordability. I
was surprised to learn that the cost Blue Cross pays
for prescription drugs rose by a staggering fifteen percent last year.
(02:36:19):
Fifteen percent. That's five times higher than inflation. It's no
wonder healthcare costs or a concern for so many of us.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is working
hard to help all of us better understand the factors
driving up healthcare costs and sharing what they are doing
is a business to address it because Blue Cross knows
that healthcare is personal and needs to work for everyone,
(02:36:40):
and affordability matters. So I encourage you to take a
minute and check OUTMI blue Daily dot com slash affordability
and get informed. You'll be glad you did. It's eye
opening information that can help everyone better understand the complexities
of the healthcare system and its impact on your health
insurance costs. Michael Patrick shields here looking around Dusty Cellar
(02:37:02):
and I want to talk to Matt Rhodes because I
want to have a private party event here at Dusty's.
What are my options?
Speaker 57 (02:37:07):
Thanks?
Speaker 7 (02:37:08):
Michael.
Speaker 59 (02:37:08):
Luckily you have many options depending on the number of
guests you plan on hosting.
Speaker 10 (02:37:11):
I'm not sure yet how many where can we go?
Speaker 59 (02:37:14):
Well, we have four rooms to choose from range from
eight guests up to forty two depending occasion. We can
do both stand up cocktail parties, buffets, and multi course dinners.
Speaker 10 (02:37:22):
So the NAPA and Tuscan rooms I see here are
for smaller parties, and then you have this Lelanois patio
and the Bordeaux room. Those are for the bigger ones.
Speaker 59 (02:37:30):
That's right, Napa Tuscan for parties of eight to fourteen
and Leidon on Bordeaux for parties up to forty plus guests.
Speaker 10 (02:37:36):
I'm glad I'm here because i can get my six
for sixty six dollars wine club selections. And then I'm
stopping the wine bar, of course in the tap room
for a bite and a drink.
Speaker 59 (02:37:45):
That's like to offer the seller for retail wine bar
for casual fine dining in the tap room, our local neighborhood.
Speaker 8 (02:37:50):
Public, cheers Matt.
Speaker 10 (02:37:51):

Speaker 59 (02:37:57):
Cheers Michael.

INBC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. Homeless people in Washington,
DC could face jail time amid President Trump's crackdown on
crime in the nation's capital. White Hospress Secretary Caroline Levitt
set on Tuesday that homeless people will be given the
option to leave encampments and be taken to shelters, but
if they refuse, they could be hit with fines or
jail time. Texas Governor Greg Abbat is calling for another

Speaker 31 (02:38:25):
Timmy Trujill reports.
Speaker 32 (02:38:26):
The governor is looking to redraw the state's congressional district
maps as he waits for the Texas Democrats who have
left for blue states across the country. The group of
Democratic lawmakers left Texas to deny the state legislature of
the quorum needed to hold a vote in the current
special session. Abbott says he'll continue calling for new special
sessions until the missing Democrats return. I'm Tammy Truheo and.

Foglio de Bonas is back with us Imago Arts Travel Italy.
Speaker 8 (02:39:39):
And he sat down at the table and he said
he had insights. Because the reason he said.
Speaker 10 (02:39:43):
That is I asked him, are you shocked of set
happy that there's an American pope?
Speaker 8 (02:39:48):
And you lit up and you said, I've got insight?
What kind of insight?
Speaker 13 (02:39:53):
I am so happy old a new pope. The American
vote this guy. He's not just American. And he spent
most of the visa his life, the majority of his
life in in Anders Are you called in Anders? And
is the real missionary? H That's what the Catholic Church
(02:40:13):
needs now. He needs to keep people close to it.
He needs to move people close to close to this
out is incredible and secularly environment and I think Leo
is the right person. He is the right guy.
Speaker 10 (02:40:33):
Do you anticipate in your business that it will draw
more Americans even more to come to Vatican City.
Speaker 13 (02:40:39):
Absolutely, yes, they will come to the Vatican City. They
will enjoy what we have, our treasures, our gems of
the Vatican City. They will enjoy this enclave. But this
is in the state, the country, and yeah, we're gonna
seems accessible.
Speaker 10 (02:40:58):
I mean from a distance. I see him in the
Open Pope movie. I didn't even think they did that anymore.
Speaker 13 (02:41:03):
He's a missionary at all. He's down to her. He
loves to talk to people, he loves to share inside.
He's one of us.
Speaker 10 (02:41:11):
He's one of us.
Speaker 8 (02:41:12):
I mean I saw somebody throw a teddy bear at him.
If I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 10 (02:41:16):
Absolutely, you got to really feel close to somebody if
you're willing to throw the teddy bear at the pond,
if you know the leader of the church.
Speaker 8 (02:41:23):
But and they bring American football jerseys.
Speaker 13 (02:41:27):
And American football jersey and he's a very big support
of Roma Boat team. I mean talking about soccer. Absolutely, absolutely, yes,
I know for sure he loves Totty. Totti was an
incredible player I grew up with. And he's he's a
Capitan and he loves ron he loves the Roman.
Speaker 8 (02:41:50):
I have to tell you.
Speaker 10 (02:41:51):
And I'll be honest too. When I was watching the
television in Los Angeles and they say, oh, the New Hope,
there's this white smoke, I guess they're going to make
an announcement. I'll tell you what I said when they
announced it who it was, that it was an American pope.
Speaker 61 (02:42:06):
I said, gay Kasos, that's a very colorful sentence, you know,
bach I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 13 (02:42:17):
You couldn't believe it. I was there. I was, of course,
I was there in the square. I saw the white
smoke cap ily. There are videos I'll shore shot with you,
and it was a it was a very emotional moment
to me. To me, it was the first time I
saw the white smoke. I was there doing the white smoke,
(02:42:38):
and I can tell you I was so excited. I
was like a child kid.
Speaker 8 (02:42:45):
How did you know to be there at that time?
Or did you just camp out?
Speaker 13 (02:42:49):
I had this feeling. I had this feeling. And let
me tell you, usually this smoke comes up around seven o'clock.
It came out one hour when out one and a
half hours earlier, and I was there two and a
half howard earlier. Yes, that was there because I felt
something and I was yelling, hugging with friends of mine.
(02:43:13):
I met friends. We did not have a meeting. I
didn't know I have a meeting. I met so many
people I knew there and we started hugging each other
I young people that even know. It was an incredible moment.
Speaker 8 (02:43:27):
What a sweet thing to hear it. So I get
chills just hearing you say that kind of thing.
Speaker 10 (02:43:31):
And uh, now this Pope Leo he is using I
think as we speak down the summer he's at Castle
Gundalfo and Francis did not, as I recall, used that
can you go there as a as a tourist?
Speaker 13 (02:43:45):
Now you won't. We won't go there as a tourist
during this day, but we can do it. We can
still do it during I mean in the wintertime when
he's not using it.
Speaker 8 (02:43:58):
Because he turned it in new museum, did he? Or
that's what I heard? Is it still say it's.
Speaker 13 (02:44:04):
A kind of museum, it's a part of the Italian history,
because thank I love for it's an enchanting place everybody
should see. Absolutely yes, And the Francis decide for his
reason not to use it. And of course you know
they're open to the tourists, which was an incredible idea too.
Speaker 8 (02:44:23):
What's it like? How far is it from Rome and
what is it like?
Speaker 13 (02:44:27):
It's a minutes from round from the city center, it's
forty my minutes from the city center, and there is
a huge garden, a beautiful, amazing garden, big big gardens.
And there is this apostolic palace which looked like an
apostolic palap plenty of rascoes from the Big Pin under
the sixteen hundred and it was part of the Bricases property.
(02:44:50):
It's a it's a beautiful I suggest you to go.
Speaker 8 (02:44:52):

can google it and find you for the Aldi bonus.

Gonna go to the Diamond NPS. Not a lot of
good things to report on here, but the Tigers. They
fell to the White Sox last night, nine to six.
Jack Flaherty got the start and lost. Not a great
season for him. Six and twelve. Dylan Dingler and Colt
Keith had home runs and that two game winning streak
is over. So they will wrap it up this afternoon
in Chicago as the Tigers will attempt to take the

they were in Toronto to take on the Blue Jays

The Angels again beat the Dodgers, this time seven to six.
Speaker 8 (02:50:49):
Now MPs.
Speaker 2 (02:50:51):
This game today will wrap up the season series against
the Angels for the Dodger six games total, and somehow
the Dodgers have not beat the team one single time.
It's striking, especially when the Angels are an under five
hundred team and have had a pretty bad season and
the Dodgers, for whatever reason, cannot find a way to
(02:51:12):
beat them. We will see if there's something to give today.
Speaker 52 (02:51:15):
Now.
