Speaker 1 (00:04):
Live across the Great Lake State. You're connected to Michigan's
most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's Big
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross, Blue
Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Oh, guess what day it is?

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Guess what day it is?

Speaker 5 (00:40):
Eh?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Anybody, Julie, Hey, guess what day it is?

Speaker 6 (00:44):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (00:44):
Come on, I know you can hear me.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Mike, Mike, Mike. What day is it? Mike? Guess what
today is?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
It's hump Day, Camp Day.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.

Speaker 8 (00:58):
Good morning world, Good morning Michigan. A very pleasant hump
Day Wednesday to you. It's Michael Patrick Shields. That's what
that guy told you a minute ago. Radio stations across
the state of Michigan worldwide at miibigshow dot Com, Nabatchasiak
on Twotty Boy, and we get your Wednesday, Turkey on
the Road from the end of the road at the

(01:20):
top of the world with a tail well calculated to
keep you in suspense, and a big list of guests
coming your way today. And one of them is going
to be a bridge across not troubled waters, but exciting
waters in the state of Michigan. Kim Noak from the

(01:41):
Mackinaw Bridge Authority will tell you how to do the
bridgewalk this year, if you want to do the Labor
Day bridgewalk. It's a great Michigan tradition. And at that
same time, we know that water wonderland can be dangerous,
So Megan Ferraro will be here, the chair of the
US National Water Safety Action Plan, how to be safe

(02:02):
this weekend because there have been an alarming number of
drownings in the Great Lakes in Michigan, and we'll talk
about that. Stay tuned and stay informed, because forewarned is forearmed.
Ronald McDaniel remember her. She was chair of the Michigan
Republican Party and the Republican National Committee. Now chief executive

(02:24):
Officer of Michigan Forward is going to talk with us
about some startling things. Two prominent Democrats said in the
last couple of days and you won't believe what you hear,
and she'll give details. So there's a cliffhanger for you
right there. Mike Nichols, the attorney, will be here to

(02:45):
talk about the Taylor Swift Travis Kelsey engagement. He's an attorney,
so I bet you can guess what we're talking about.
That's an expensive engagement ring and will there be a
pre nuptial agreement? Wow, how to throw old water on
a romance. But maybe we can learn something from it.
Larry Olmstead will be here. He is a travel writer.

(03:08):
We'll talk about the various locations where that engagement may
have taken place and where it did take place, and
if Larry's been to those places. Mark Hackle remember him,
County executive of Macomb County. Well, there was a number
of times when he was running for governor and maybe
he still will. But he's going to talk about the

(03:28):
fact that we're still dodging potholes. And he's a Democrat
in Michigan. Dennis much More was Governor Snyder's chief of staff.
He'll be here. I want to talk a little bit
about some of the Oh, what are we going to
call it Donald Trump derangement that's taking place. What is
the truth and what is not? And doctor Peter Solomon

(03:50):
is here, the author of one hundred Years to Extinction,
the Tyranny of Technology and the Fight for a better future?
In other words, is artificial intelligence going to be the
doom of you? And I? Thomas Kraford, the senior Wealth
advisor at Great Lakes Wealth, will be here and we
have made a pledge to call people randomly every once

(04:13):
in a while just to tell them we love them.
And we will strike again this morning with a surprise
call to somebody who may or may not be surprised,
but will nevertheless surprised that they get the call. And
that's all we really need to tell the person, and
we hope you'll do it too, even if it isn't
on the radio. The Michigan House has passed a seventy

(04:34):
eight billion dollar budget for the fiscal year. Fifty nine
to forty five was the vote now that will set
up negotiations with the state Senate, which passed its budget
in the spring. The Senate budget, though, was passed before
the federal budget bill was approved, and there was some
slashing of state funding medicaid et cetera. So the House Speaker,

(04:54):
Matt Hall of Richland says they cut five billion dollars
a waste, fraud, and abuse, and their budget includes three
point four billion dollars for Rhodes without raising taxes. Ton's
all right to me. I guess what do I know?

Speaker 4 (05:09):
Though?

Speaker 8 (05:09):
The House plan also has one hundred billion dollars for
public safety, so stay tuned. Dearborn Public School superintendent Glenn
Malaco has been selected by the state Board of Education
to be the new superintendent, taking over this fall from
Michael Rice, who's retiring in October after six years at

(05:31):
the HELM. He's been the super in Dearborn since twenty fifteen.
Started his career there as a substitute teacher, moved all
the way up the ranks. Interesting, congratulations. We'll see what
Beth de Shoon has to say about that at some point.

Speaker 9 (05:48):
UH.

Speaker 8 (05:51):
The Attorney General is Dana Nessel, and she is blasting
THESON for their decision to end gender affirming treatment for minors,
saying it's cowardly and shameful. In a statement, she says
the announcement from the University of Michigan that they won't
continue to provide transgender patients with all of the healthcare

(06:13):
options available is dangerous and potentially illegal. Nessel says. The
university caved into political pressure from the White House and
you know who, and the decision is not what patients
have come to expect. Gender affirming treatment for minors in
Michigan is legal, and that includes hormone and puberty blocker

(06:37):
treatments for minors. Can imagine that's somewhat controversial, well a
lot controversial for miners Michigan. Oh so much more to

(06:57):
share with you. I want to give you Neil de
grass Tyson to put some perspective into it all as
you're driving to work today. Here he is talking about
in our little world, the vast world and universe we
actually live in.

Speaker 10 (07:16):
I just calculated how many planets there are in the
observable universe, and honestly, the number is so big it'll
break your brain. Our Milky Way galaxy alone has about
one hundred billion stars at almost every star has planets
on average roughly two planets each. Some systems even have dozens.
Now here's where it gets insane. There are about two
trillion galaxies like ours in the observable universe. When you
multiply it all together, you get around three hundred sextillion planets.

(07:40):
That's three hundred followed by twenty one zeros. So even
if you counted every grain of sand on every beach
in desert on Earth, you'd still fall short. Each grain
would need to represent about forty thousand entire planets. Or
think of it this way, if every single human alive today,
eight billion of us were sent to explore, each person
would still get over thirty ti planets. That's one new

(08:01):
planet every second, NonStop, for nearly a million years. So yeah,
the universe isn't just big, it's overflowing unimaginably with worlds
will probably never even live to see.

Speaker 8 (08:12):
In other words, don't sweat it, Okay, God, that's baffling,
isn't it. It's kitty, what's it all about? Alphie lovely Day?
Michael Patrick shields through the A, T and T microphones.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
When someone else stay it up.

Speaker 8 (08:32):
Always seems to know the wind.

Speaker 11 (08:39):
And the world all right.

Speaker 6 (08:41):

Disney is suing Dish Network over several new packages offered
by Sling TV.

Speaker 18 (11:32):
The internet TV service recently introduced passes that allow customers
to pay for a week, weekend, or even a single
day of live TV. Disney is now suing Dish Network,
which owns Slang, claiming this violates Disney's programming distribution agreements.
Sling customers are currently able to watch a Disney and
ESPN programming through monthly subscription plans, and Disney claims any
shorter subscription violates the agreement between it and Dish Network.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
I'm Mark Mayfield.

podcasting is available atmi Bigshow dot Com, through Apple Podcasts
and YouTube and Facebook and Instagram, and feel free to
listen anytime you like. Just get here to Michigan's Big

(13:51):
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, and thank you for bringing
friends too. Yolanda Adams, you're hearing in the background. The
gospel singer is sixty four today. And we never let
the birthday of a beautiful person pass without taking note.
Beautiful person, beautiful song, Yolanda Adams, Peoples, you bo, sir,

(14:28):
she shares a birthday with Barbara Bach who is seventy
eight today and she was a Bond girl, and the
Spy who Loved Me, which was Carly Simon, another beautiful singer,
the song that she did for the Double seven series,
and of course Barbara Bach is also Missus Ringo star.
And maybe we'll hear the Spy who Loved Me at

(14:48):
the end of the segment. But first it was President
Donald Trump who said get here to his cabinet members
and launched into what some people are calling a bazaar
our stream of consciousness monologue to open up what was
a televised cabinet meeting at the White House. It went
on for three hours and sixteen minutes. The President veered

(15:12):
into an awkward bit as he said looks were not
important in politics, but then suggested that if he praised
Attorney General Pam Bondi's physical attributes, his career would be over.
He said, quote, I look at Pam. I would never
say she's beautiful, because that's going to be the end
of my political career. He said, And well, you know,

(15:36):
I guess he's right. You can't watch what you say.
You can say something that's a compliment, but maybe it's
not the right time. Maybe it's awkward. So then the
President lurched from subject to subject without interruption, and members
of the cabinet listened, and sometimes they laughed at his remarks.
You know, he was like being a fly on the
wall at this meeting here as they're all around the

(15:57):
big table. And at one point he appeared to mix
up the drug companies Eli Lilly and Johnson and Johnson,
and he claimed he was cutting prescription drug prices for
Americans by fifteen hundred percent. I hope that's true. That
would be nice if that were true. Trump said that
he'd only been at work in his second term in

(16:20):
the Oval Office for several months because he initially had
to prepare by redecorating the Oval Office. And then he
talked about putting a very very substantial tariff on furniture.
And then I guess there was an awkward explanation of
artificial intelligence as he lauded the First Lady, Milania, who

(16:44):
announced this week a new AI initiative for children. The
President said, quote, this is the new Internet, the new computer,
the new television, the new everything, all put together at one.
I don't know if I could expel any better either,
to tell you the truth. He was flanked by the
Secretary of State Marco Rubio on one side and the

(17:06):
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth on the other, and then forty
eight minutes later he changed topics from the prices of
fuel and eggs to Zuckerberg's data center in Louisiana, to
turning water supplies on in California, the unfair prices of
pharmaceutical drugs, and the fact that he dislikes windmills, slamming

(17:29):
the fake media, and his plans to widen the use
of the military in US cities like Baltimore, in Chicago,
and bringing back the death penalty in Washington, d c.
When comes to crime, he said, you know, he would
appreciate some people maybe giving him a little thank you

(17:52):
or reaching out for help, rather than him having to
sort of impose help in cities that really need it.
He said, you know, I can do anything I want.
I'm president, so I would have much more respect for Pritsker.

Speaker 20 (18:07):
If he'd call me up and said, I have a problem,
can you help me fix it? I would be so
happy to do it. I don't love not that I
don't have the right to do anything.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
I want to do.

Speaker 20 (18:17):
I'm the president of the United States. If I think
our country's in danger, and it is in danger in
these cities, I can do it, no problem going in
and solving his difficulties. But it would be nice if
they'd call and they say, would you do it?

Speaker 8 (18:32):
Pritzker, of course, the governor of Illinois, who may be
running for president. At one point, the President talked about
transgender athletes, make fun of the age of Senate Majority
Leader Chuck Schumer, saying he looked like he was one
hundred years old. Donald Trump is seventy nine. Didn't talk
about his health, talked about Governor Gavin Nooscomb, the governor California.

(18:53):
That's his nickname for him, he said, Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
And the slob is what he called JB. Pricks her
by the way, So this is quite something. And Rubio
was nonplussed. And because Trump congratulated for his work as
Secretary of State and suggested maybe he might run for

(19:14):
president because he'd be a good fit. And he says,
it just went on and on. This is the president,
Donald Trump. He said, Russia's posturing was bull s two.

(19:36):
The president who loved us, the spy who loved Me.
Here's Barbara Box celebrating her birthday. Today it's Michael Patrick
shields through the AT and T microphones.

Speaker 14 (19:53):
No health officials have identified the first travel associated human
case of New World screwworm in America.

Speaker 21 (20:04):
The case was reported in Maryland. New World screw worms
are parasitic flies that attack and eat healthy tissue from
livestock and sometimes humans. Multiple reports indicate the patient traveled
to the US Mel Salvador, where there currently is an outbreak.
The case has been examined and verified by the CDC.
I'm Tammy Triheo.

Speaker 14 (20:22):
Scientists at the University of Virginia Medical School and cooperation
with their counterparts at the University of Michigan say they've
developed a treatment for a deadly full body infection known
as sepsis. It involves use of a monoclonal antibody that
showed promising results in initial testing. The treatment could also
be used on other inflammatory conditions, including autoimmune disorders. In addition,

(20:45):
it could be used to help repair tissue damage from
loss of blood flow, a condition that can hinder organ transplants.
Health update. I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Michigan's Big Show starring Michael Patrick Siels.

Speaker 8 (21:01):
John Kennedy, the chair of the West Michigan Policy Forum.
Our governor was elected saying she was going to fix
the damn roads. Where are we on that site?

Speaker 5 (21:09):
The fact that we had a nine million dollars curplus,
we didn't spend that money on fixing the road. We
spend that money on court project. The money is there
in the budget, and we'd like it to be allocated
to the things the governor promised.

Speaker 8 (21:23):
Speaking of money, Mega millions did not go last night.
So Friday's jackpot is worth two hundred and seventy seven
million dollars and the power ball tonight, I have tickets.

It's a talk show where we listen and welcome to
it through the AT and T MICROPHONESE News Radio.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
I'm Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 18 (24:02):
President Trump says he wants the death penalty for any
murders in Washington, d C. While touting the National Guard
intervention in DC. Trump said, if anybody murders someone in
the nation's capital, they get capital punishment. He then called
it a very strong preventative measure. Trump made the comments
during his seventh Cabinet meeting of his second term. President
Trump is commenting on the engagement of Taylor Swift and

(24:24):
Travis Kelcey well.

Speaker 20 (24:25):
I wish him a lad alone.

Speaker 18 (24:28):
He was asked about it at the White House, and
the laughter in the room came from his cabinet. Trump
has been a sharp critic of Swift after she endorsed
Kamala Harris for President. Trump added Kelsey as a great
player and Swift is a terrific person. The Department of
Justice is asking US Supreme Court to allow the Trump
administration to withhold billions of dollars in foreign aid. On Tuesday,
the DOJ filed an emergency appeal requesting that the Court

(24:50):
pause a federal judge's order that would force the Trump
administration to continue making payments. The administration wants the High
Court to intervene before the deadline set by the order
September thirtieth. The aid has already been approved by Congress,
and the dojr use only Congress as the authority to
challenge the administration's efforts to withhold it. Health in Human
Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior is set to announce

(25:12):
causes of autism by September.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Bryan Shok reports.

Speaker 24 (25:15):
Kennedy has previously vowed to find the cause of growing
rates of autism, calling it an epidemic that dwarfs the
covid epidemic. The HHS secretary discussed his intentions to reveal
the causes of autism during a cabinet meeting held by
President Trump on Tuesday. Kennedy has long claimed that environmental
factors or vaccines are likely culprits behind the rising rate

(25:38):
of autism diagnoses. I'm Brian Shook.

Speaker 18 (25:41):
And SpaceX is celebrating a successful test light of Starship,
the massive uncrewed rocket launch from starbused Texas, Tuesday night.
The latest test came after three straight setbacks. You're listening
to the latest from NBC News Radio. Open Ai is
being sued by a California couple who accused chat chiefet
of helping them her teenage son to commit suicide. The lawsuit,

(26:03):
filed Tuesday, claims that the chat pot helped sixteen year
old Adam Rain to explore suicide methods and helped him
write the first draft of his suicide note. The forty
page lawsuit names OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman as
defendants and accuses them of wrongful death, designed defects, and
failure to warn of the risks associated with chant GPT.

(26:23):
Apple is announcing a launch event scheduled at its campus
next month. The etech giants in invites to the media
and analyst for an event which is being held on
September the ninth. Analysts expect Apple to release a lineup
of new phones, as well as new Apple Watch models.
According to the company, The tagline on the event is
AWE drop in, and Apple plans to stream the event
on its website, and Google is reportedly considering an update

(26:45):
to Notebook LM's video overviews to support up to eighty languages.
These updates are now rolling out globally. Chech report a
Mark Mayfield.

(27:38):
when you're out there enjoying a pure Michigan day and
of course our water wonderland. The Lord has given me
a well instructed tongue to know the word that sustains
the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my
ear to listen like one being instructed. And we're going
to get a little bit of instruction right now, because
nobody starts their day, whether heading to the beach or

(28:00):
going fishing or boating, expecting that it might end in tragedy,
But it happens. Sixty six Great Lakes drownings to date
in twenty twenty five, and thirty two of those are
in Michigan. Why and how can we avoid it? Megan

(28:21):
Ferraro is the chair of the US National Water Safety
Action Plan and on our AT and T line write
this very moment, thank you for.

Speaker 23 (28:29):
Being available, Thank you for having me today.

Speaker 8 (28:33):
Not trying to rain on the parade or be a
wet blanket, if you'll pardon the pun. But how do
these drownings happen? And what's the number one mistake people make?

Speaker 23 (28:45):
So in Michigan, you are so blessed to have so
many open waterways, lakes and rivers and ponds, and it's
an amazing opportunity to recreate around the water and spend
time with family and friends. And so when you head
out to do that this weekend, this Labor Day weekend,
we want to encourage you to practice a couple of

(29:06):
simple steps to keep you safe, the first of which
would be to wear a US Coast Guard approved life
jacket anytime you're around open water at any age. So
oftentimes we only think about putting our youngest in life
jackets when they're in open water when they're boating, but
we want everyone to be wearing a US Coast Guard

(29:26):
approved life jacket. We know that accidents happen, mistakes can
happen when we're boating and we're out deep into the water,
and so we want to encourage you to wear a
US Coast Guard approved life jacket anytime you're in open water.
If you're at the beachfront swimming, we want you to
only swim in front of a lifeguard and to never

(29:49):
swim alone. And we want everyone to get water safety
classes like learn to Swim classes and CPR classes. We
know CPR is administered at the time of drowning, the
chance of survival increases significantly, and we want parents of
young children to really be close to those children when

(30:09):
they're swimming. We want if your child is not a
strong swimmer, you need to be within arms breach of
that child when they're in the water, so that close
adult supervision. Anytime you're around water, particularly in a party
setting that may be occurring this weekend, lots of people
you know getting together for the first time, or the

(30:30):
last time before the school year begins. We want to
make sure that those children are safe when they're around water,
and that there's a water watcher watching those kids around water.

Speaker 8 (30:40):
This weekend, you've talked about and written about the ABCDE
of water Safety. We're all going back to school right
about now, so maybe we could learn what those abcdes are.

Speaker 23 (30:55):
Yeah, so a fans for adults. Adults should be watching
children any time they are in water. We know that
during parties or holiday celebrations, it can be distracting chatting
and catching up with friends, maybe having a drink or two.
If your child is around open water, do not drink alcohol,
Do not get distracted, Keep your eyes on your child

(31:16):
and take a break. Take turns with your partner with
other adults at the party, but be sure you're watching
those children.

Speaker 25 (31:23):
B stands for barriers.

Speaker 23 (31:25):
If you happen to be one of those lucky folks
in Michigan with a backyard pool, you should have a
four sided fence around your backyard pool so that a
child can't slip out of the house unnoticed and get
into that pool. We know that drowning is the lead
the cause of death for children ages one to four
and that most of those drownings happen in residential pools.

(31:48):
See stands for classes like those swim classes and those
CPR classes I talked about earlier. D stands for two things.
They stand four drains. If you do have a backyard pool,
we want to be sure that you have a Virginia
Graham Baker approved pool drain cover in your backyard swimming pool.
It also stands for devices like life jackets that we

(32:10):
talked about, so wearing that US Coast Guard approved life
jacket when you're around open water, and E is for everywhere.
Water is everywhere, especially in Michigan. So we want to
be sure that you're thinking about water safety. And we
say that not just not to scare you or to
frighten you away from the water. We want the water

(32:30):
to be enjoyed. We just want it to be enjoyed safely.

Speaker 8 (32:36):
Do you know any statistics about the numbers versus swimming
pool drownings and beach and boating drownings.

Speaker 23 (32:44):
I don't have those current figures off the top of
my head. I was aware of those numbers you shared earlier. Today,
we know that where people are drowning varies from state
to state, not every state is as lucky to have
as much open water as Michigan does, but we do
know the Great Lakes can be a real risk for

(33:07):
those of you be visiting Michigan this weekend. Michigan's lakes
are not like a lake in the middle of the countryside.
Michigan's lakes have rip currents, they have tides, and so
when you're swimming in a lake in Michigan, you need
to be treating that water just like you would treat

(33:27):
the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean, and really be thinking
about layers of protection and safety, just like you do
when you're when you're you know, at the beach in
Florida or at the Jersey shore, thinking about swimming in
front of that lifeguard chair, never swimming alone, if you're boating,
wearing that life jacket.

Speaker 22 (33:46):
It's really a.

Speaker 23 (33:47):
Unique thing to the Michigan's waterways, but really thinking about
those layers of protection in that safety.

Speaker 8 (33:54):
We've got piers in Michigan and Saint Joe and Grandy
and other places that are obviously compelling for lots of
strange reasons, but they've asked people many times, please don't
jump off the piers, and please don't swim near the piers,
because as you said, there are riptides and it's rough

(34:15):
water and it's dangerous and jetties and things like that too.
If you should find yourself in a riptide where it
feels like you're being pulled out into the lake, what
should you do?

Speaker 23 (34:27):
I'm glad you asked. There are some simple easy steps
that our friends at the Great Lake Surf and Rescue
Project came up with. And those simple steps are flip
onto your back, float and sallow the current. What you
want to do is swim parallel to the shore so
that you can get out of that rip current. In
the moment you're going to find yourself feeling panicked, you're

(34:48):
going to feel yourself getting pulled away from the beach front.
So you just need to stay calm, Flip onto your
back so that you can stay calm for a minute,
and then swim parallel to the shore until you're out
of that rip current and back back to the beach.
If you find yourself getting tired, find a way to
signal for help, to call for help, to wave your arms,
any of your.

Speaker 8 (35:09):
That's why it might seem geeky to wear that life
jacket or swim around a lifeguard. But you heard the
advice right there of Megan Ferraro. You don't want this
to happen to you.

Speaker 26 (35:19):
This is what it feels like to drown. You'll continue
gasping for air, but it won't help. Then you'll feel
a burning sensation of water filling up your ear cavities,
and naturally you'll begin kicking and punching, and that's your
body trying to get to the surface. Your lungs in
throat will tighten up due to the pressure, and you'll
feel like you're about to explode. Eventually, your body will
give in and your lungs will fill with water, and

(35:41):
this is when the hallucinations will begin. You'll feel calm
and a dream like state while your body slowly gets
deeper and deeper. Your brain will then lose oxygen. Then
you'll follow the light through the tunnel and die.

Our path to a top ten state is only as
strong as our strength of commitment. It's time to compete

we will feel a powerful win in our sales that
will move Michigan over. That's a top ten state. Business

Speaker 8 (36:57):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one our insurance premiums, But what if we're only seeing
part of the picture. The truth is our health insurance
costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,

(37:20):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield the Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts

(37:44):
with shedding light on the entire cost equation from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit miibluedaily

Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook

Cook and the firing lacks any factual or legal basis.

drop from the forty nine percent who considered themselves thriving
in twenty twenty four and the forty seven percent who

The superstar singer songwriter made the announcement in a post

Speaker 29 (38:54):
News Radio, Summer time in Northern Michigan.

Speaker 8 (39:10):
Summertime in Northern Michigan and all of Michigan and everywhere,
by the way, is coming to a close quickly and traditionally,
although not scientifically, on Labor Day weekend, and that will
bring more traffic to the highways of Upper Michigan, people
coming from downstate to take advantage of opportunities, and people

(39:30):
heading back downstate to different cities. And we're hurt on
the radio and all of them. If you should find
yourself in Saint Ignace, Ryan Duffy from Enbridge Energy says
you could stop by their information center and take a
look at what is essentially one big science project, and
that is the Great Lakes Tunnel area.

Speaker 30 (39:50):
That's two fourteen State Street right downtown Stay. They missed
our information center. I'm actually going to be headed up
there later this afternoon.

Speaker 11 (39:58):
And we've been busy there with so.

Speaker 30 (40:00):
Many people coming in visiting downtown Saint Ingness in the
summer taking.

Speaker 11 (40:05):
The ferry over to the island.

Speaker 30 (40:06):
We had a lot of people stopping in, so that's
been fun for us and everyone is invited. There's all
kinds of information there on the tunnel project. We have
interactive displays. We have our twenty foot model of our
tunnel boring machine in there, so a lot of people
taking a look at that. So everything you could ever
really want to know on how the tunnel is going

(40:28):
to be built. And the information center opens at nine
most mornings except Friday that opens at noon and then
closed on Sunday.

Speaker 8 (40:37):
Great Lakes Tunnel project will cost five hundred million dollars
and en Bridge Energy is investing in that. If you're
lucky enough to get to Macina Island, you're lucky enough
to get to Mission Point Resort, say hi to Liz
Where and Mark where at, everybody else there and even
if you don't stay overnight, stop in for a drink
or a putt put round or just enjoy yourself at
Mission Point Resort. Now, some of that traffic that will

(40:59):
be taking place on Labor Day is by design, and
Kim Noak knows that. The director of the Mackinaw Bridge Authority,
who's on our AT and T line, I'll say happy
New Year to you as we headn't to yet another
traditional bridgewalk, Good morning, thank you very much the rules
this year? How is it all working? If somebody right

(41:21):
now says that's been on my bucket list for a
long time, I'm going to do it, and maybe somebody
is coming back again. But it's been a few years.
What do we need to know about bridgewalk on Labor Day.

Speaker 31 (41:34):
Well, there's a few things about bridgewalk. We've been for
the past few years allowing people to walk from both
ends of the bridge, so you can start in Mackinaw
City or you can start in Saint Ignes and you
can walk as much of the bridge as you want
or just a little bit of the bridge. So lots
of options available for people to do the walk?

Speaker 8 (41:56):
What time does it start and what time is the cutoff?

Speaker 31 (42:01):
Okay, we cut off the traffic on the bridge at
six thirty in the morning, so there's no public traffic
from six thirty to noon, and the actual walk will
start from seven o'clock and go until you can start
the walk from seven o'clock to eleven thirty, and then
we'll have the highway open to traffic at noon.

Speaker 8 (42:25):
How if you start a walker at eleven thirty, how
do you open the traffic to noon.

Speaker 31 (42:30):
Well, they're only going to walk a little bit of
the bridge. They just walk a little bit up and
they come back. So that opens it up to more
people to get more options on the bridge, So they
won't be able to walk very far, but they'll be
able to walk a little bit.

Speaker 8 (42:47):
Oh, I didn't realize you could turn around and go back.
That's a good thing to know. And that's because you
have the two way walking traffic now, right.

Speaker 31 (42:56):
Yep, that's right, so you can turn around wherever you want.
And then if you need ramps, if you have rolling
things that there's some several ramps along the way where
you can turn around those ramps. So, yeah, we're trying
to make it easy for everybody.

Speaker 8 (43:11):
Is there any like even anecdotal data as to which
way people are more likely to walk? Are they going
southbound or northbound? In the bridgewalk?

Speaker 31 (43:22):
Well, most people start from Mcano City. That's where the
big crowds are. So probably about eighty percent of our
walkers start from Macano City and the rest from Saint Ignace.
So if you want a quieter, less crowded route, you
might come up to Saint Ignas and start from there.

Speaker 8 (43:40):
I guess you have to figure out logistically how you're
going to put your car somewhere and then get it
when it's over. That's always been sort of the mystery
for people.

Speaker 31 (43:50):
Well, yeah, that's that's your responsibility. And we do have
parking at our Bridgeview Park in Saint Ignas. That's managed
by the bridge authority that for the most part. The
rest of the parking is you know, managed by other folks.
And yeah, you have to remember where your car is
and at ten o'clock in the morning, you better be
on that side of the bridge headed back towards your

(44:12):
car so you don't get stranded on the wrong side
of the bridge.

Speaker 8 (44:17):
It's a five mile walk, right, Yeah, it's about a
five mile walk when you add in all the approaches
and all that, so you've better plan for that.

Speaker 31 (44:26):
Well, unless you just only want to walk a small
portion of the bridge, it's up to you how much
you want to do.

Speaker 8 (44:32):
Do you have shuttles that will take if you walk
to Saint Ignace, that will drive you back to mac City.

Speaker 31 (44:38):
No, we don't really provide subtle so I don't count
on having transportation to get back if you if you
go to the wrong side where your car is not
so make sure you get back to your car.

Speaker 8 (44:50):
Okay, I guess if you really wanted to be creative,
you could use the ferries and go to Saint Ignace
and get your car way. You can sort it out.
You have to be a little bit creative. Is there
a website where you can sort of review all this
before you decide to do it.

Speaker 31 (45:06):
Yeah, Macanon Bridge dot org is our website and there's
all kinds of information there. And if you're interested in
the ferries, i'd encourage you to go to their websites
because they do offer different options for getting from Saint
Agans to Macanocity and vice versa. So I would check
that out. But we don't have that. I don't have

(45:27):
that information memorized, so that'd be.

Speaker 8 (45:30):
A sweet adventure to do. And it's a beautiful view
of course when you're walking in the morning. And I
guess when they when you when the road starts to
open up again, is there typically a big backlog of
cars waiting to start driving.

Speaker 31 (45:44):
Well, the people don't actually sit in line. They know
what's going on and so they arrive there when it's
going to open and so it does take a while
for us to clear all that traffic. So yeah, it
is quite crowded, but we don't really have people sitting
in line, and they plan around that timeframe.

Speaker 8 (46:04):
And just quickly. Is there a little ceremony before the
people start walking the bridge in Saint Ignace?

Speaker 31 (46:11):
In both places there's a they played a national anthem
and kick it off and away we go.

Speaker 8 (46:20):
So yeah, it's a super pure Michigan tradition. And Kim
Noak is the director of the mackinaw Bridge Authority.

Tony Cuthbert, speaking of sports, what do you know about
val Terry Botas and Sergio Perez?

Speaker 2 (49:08):
They are, by the way, terrific job on both of
those names. Not the easiest, well, Sergio Perez is pretty easy,
but Valteri Botas, good job. Two washed up drivers that
were basically fired from their original teams, one with Mercedes
and the other with Red Bull.

Speaker 8 (49:23):
And they are going to be the drivers for Cadillac.
Wow out in the F one racing now that Cadillac
will join F one next year.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
Yeah, good for them. And there are two characters, there
is no question about it. And that was always the
question leading up to this with Cadillac and their inclusion
in all of this, whether or not they're going to
go for two young drivers or bring in some old goats.
They definitely got the goats on this one. Will they
win anything? Who knows. Those guys have been very successful
in their career, but as you age and F one,

(49:55):
for whatever reason, it's kind of like every other sport,
you just don't really have it anymore. We're seeing that
with Lewis Hamilton at the moment but it will be
very cool to see a Cadillac out on a track,
whether it be Monaco or Las Vegas. I guess, Michael Patrick,
I know you're excited for all of that.

Speaker 8 (50:11):
And they didn't pick American drivers either. That seems to
be a little bit of sort of of controversy, as
everything always is.

Speaker 2 (50:17):
There is not one American driver in f one.

Speaker 8 (50:19):
By the way, well, speaking of that, the Masters will
have fewer Americans too, because their credentials are changing. They
used to give exemptions into the seven people that win
the Fall series on the PGA Tour. Instead those exemptions,
six of them will go to the winners of national opens,
the Scottish Open, Spanish Open, Japan, Hong Kong, Australian Open,

(50:43):
and the South African Open, And so the Masters is
truly an international event. Also, we know that there's a
wedding that's going to happen Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 15 (50:54):
I missed.

Speaker 8 (50:54):
They announced their engagement seven hundred and two days after
going public with their relatetionationship. That's a long courtship, but
it's still one three hundred and ninety four days short
of the two thousand, ninety six days that Ohio State
fans have gone without seeing their team Michigan. Thank you

(51:17):
very much to Scott Bell who posted that whopper right there. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
And by the way, if you really want to, we
can go in together once they unveil their wedding registry
if you want to, you know, go in on a
present for Miss Swift in oh Is she gonna change her?
Is it gonna be Taylor Kelsey? I don't know NPS

has been a sharp critic of Swift after she endorsed
Kamala Harris for President. Trump added Kelsey as a great

Justice is asking US Supreme Court to allow the Trump
administration to withhold billions of dollars in foreign aid. On Tuesday,
the DOJ filed an emergency appeal requesting that the court

administration to continue making payments. The administration wants the High
Court to intervene before the deadline set by the order

The Conference boards consumer confidence in X fell by more

going away and our old timer will remain even. President
Trump weighed in on the controversy, advising that the restaurant

Trump says he's going to impose substantial tariffs on countries
that do not remove digital taxes. William Denzel reports that

Countries that impose digital taxes argue that companies like Amazon
operate within their borders, taking huge profits from citizens while
paying nothing to the government, and Wall Street closed slightly
higher yesterday ahead of quarterly earnings from chip giant Nvidia.
Investors largely shook off President Trump's removal of Federal Reserve

Wormands sticky with highs near ninety in the Mid Atlantic.
In the Southeast, thunderstorms are likely, especially across the Carolinas, Georgia,

with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid eighties.

A few lingering showers are expected from Alabama to Tennessee.
Sunny throughout the Midwest with highs in the upper seventies

a few showers around the Great Lakes. Hot across the
central and southern plains with highs in the mid nineties.
Some strong storms are possible in the Dakotas. The desert
heat is holding steady throughout the Southwest, with highs topping
one hundred from Phoenix to Las Vegas. Monsottle storms over

New Mexico and Arizona are possible. The coastal areas of
California stay mild in the seventies, Inland valleys will push
into the nineties under sunny skies, and the Pacific Northwest
temperatures will top out in the mid eighties, with cooler
sixties along the coast and partly cloudy skies. That's your
national forecast. I'm Tammy Triheo.

Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.

Speaker 12 (01:00:33):
You're rude, you're hostile, you're sullen, you're withdrawn.

Speaker 20 (01:00:39):
I know you want someone to look past all that.

Speaker 39 (01:00:41):
It's but one boring man.

Speaker 40 (01:00:44):
That's all one boring man.

Speaker 9 (01:00:46):
You're all ft foreing which your peddling grievance is over nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
You're all fing born.

Speaker 4 (01:00:53):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.

Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
Good Morning World.

Speaker 8 (01:00:58):
You start out madly and and then you just end
up mad. Not always, but sometimes when it comes to
nuptials and marriage and walking down the aisle. And we
find out now that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey are
gonna take the plunge. They have planning to tie the knot.

(01:01:20):
They got engaged, and so therefore we turned to the
President of the United States, what do you mean? The
cabinet meeting was interrupted yesterday with the breaking news of
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey, I.

Speaker 22 (01:01:36):
Have to tell you the biggest pop culture news of
the year broke while you're.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
In this cabinet meeting.

Speaker 7 (01:01:41):
Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift are engaged in the world.

Speaker 20 (01:01:44):
Reactions are well, I wish him a lot of love. Yeah,
I think it's I think he said a great player.
I think he's a great guy, and I think that
she's a terrific person. So I wish him a lot
a lot of it.

Speaker 8 (01:01:58):
Look at that even he can be gracious in this setting,
because after all, Taylor Swift endorsed his opponent in the election,
so a surprise. Maybe he wants to hold the wedding
at mar A Lago. Maybe that's what it's about, or
maybe just sometimes he's a nice guy after all, I
don't really know, but I do know that anybody who
is going into a marriage goes in eyes wide shut,

(01:02:21):
and when they stand in front of the judge, they
pledge that in the times of sickness and health, richer
or poorer, good times and bad, they're going to stick
by each other. And by the way, those vows don't
say if there are good times and bad, if there
is sickness and health, and I guess these two probably
don't have to worry about the richer or poorer. When

(01:02:42):
they do worry about the richer or poorer, they'll turn
to the prenuptial agreement. Mike Hicks at the Nichols Law firm,
and he's lancing with his wife, Wendy. They have a successful,
long running, decades long marriage. But there are cautionary reasons
to meet him before you get me. I suppose welcome
to the airwaves.

Speaker 41 (01:03:02):
Hey, good morning, two days in a row.

Speaker 8 (01:03:05):
Two days in a row, because breaking news requires legal attention,
and in this case, Taylor Swift is worth reportedly about
one point six billion dollars with a B, and Travis
has about ninety million playing football. So if they came
into your office and said, you know, we love each

(01:03:25):
other and we're never going to part but what.

Speaker 41 (01:03:29):
Would you say, biggest breaking news ever? It's a big, beautiful,
big beautiful engagement.

Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
It's big.

Speaker 41 (01:03:39):
I would say, you know, your engagement and your marriage
is big and beautiful. But the really, really prudent way
to be happiest to plan for the event, unlikely or
likely as it may be, of your separation, because then
there won't be that aspect of resentment over, Hey, your

(01:04:02):
nil is bleeding into my nil, and you can't take
my nil. My nil is my nil. My name image
and likeness, and that's a big part of, you know,
for these two, right because she's got hers, he's got his,
and they've got theirs together, which is you know, if
I were Travis, I'd be arguing, it's our joint nil

(01:04:23):
that really boosts you here, Taylor.

Speaker 8 (01:04:29):
That's a tricky argument to make, but a lot of
people thought it was not even a real relationship to
begin with, that it was meant for promotion. But I
guess I could still be naive to say that it's not.
But maybe it's.

Speaker 41 (01:04:42):
Not exactly so. And you said it's a tricky argument,
but think about this. She was the benefactor of the
vast popularity of the National Football League and it's broadcasts.
Every time he touched the football almost they did a
cut away to her up in the suite. And I

(01:05:03):
think that if I were Travis's lawyer, I would argue
that augmented your name, image and likeness, Taylor. It made
you that much more popular. You are now in your
mega popularity era thanks to me running that pigskin down
the field and into your arms.

Speaker 8 (01:05:23):
Johnny Carson, I think was married four or five, six
times something like that, And he's quoted telling his attorney
Henry Bushkin, I don't want to pre en up. That's
the least romantic thing in the world. As someone who's
a talk show host who's been down the aisle a
number of times. That was probably naive of him, wasn't it.

Speaker 41 (01:05:44):
That is weird, wild stuff you walk into that one. Brother, Yeah,
I mean you have to protect your assets pre marriage. Obviously,
we want them to be happy and productive and successful
and all of that. Everything that grows during the marriage

(01:06:06):
is considered a marital asset, whether it's a premier and
a assets that you bring in and you guys commingle it.
The growth of that commingled accent. I'm sorry, asset gets
to be split, right, But what's yours before the marriage
should be yours after the marriage, in the event of
its untimely demise.

Speaker 8 (01:06:26):
Are each of these people you didn't know.

Speaker 41 (01:06:28):
I knew this much about divorce, did you no?

Speaker 8 (01:06:31):
Because you've spent a long time since you had one yourself.
But I don't know how many clients come through and
ask for pre nuptial agreements or do you have to
be really wealthy to get one in the first place.

Speaker 41 (01:06:42):
You don't have to be really wealthy to get one.
Depending on the experience and knowledge base of the lawyer
you hire, you'll pay more or less for the process
and the document. But remember, okay, so if Travis and
Taylor were to get married, if they were to walk
down football down the aisle in Michigan, you better not

(01:07:04):
punt now because a post nuptial agreement is not recognized
by law in our state.

Speaker 8 (01:07:14):
Who does a post a nuptial agreement?

Speaker 41 (01:07:17):
Well, you get married, things don't go well, and then
one of you decides, hey, we need to have an
agreement now in the event that we split up, even
though we're married and we've been married for a couple
of years, and you know, maybe one of us has
concerns about the viability of this relationship. They can do them,

(01:07:38):
you can enter into them, but they're usually not recognized,
although there have been bills in the legislature to change that,
and there have been a couple of cases that suggest
that maybe they will get some recognition. But right now,
you got to do a prenup because I can't do
a post note and have it enforced.

Speaker 8 (01:07:57):
What is the secret over twenty years for you and
Wendy of staying together?

Speaker 41 (01:08:02):
She puts up with me right now when she's trying
to get Morgan's lunch together in the kitchen, and I'm
talking to you.

Speaker 8 (01:08:08):
Okay, let's not cause any trouble just in thirty seconds.
Should you be offended if your potential spouse says, hey, honey,
we better sign this before we get married.

Speaker 4 (01:08:20):
Yes, and no.

Speaker 41 (01:08:23):
It's tricky, right, I mean, Johnny Carson did have a point.
It's the least romantic thing you can do, but it's
probably the most fiscally prudent thing that you can do,
which has shades of romance because the biggest thing you
argue about is money when you're a couple.

Speaker 8 (01:08:37):
Right, yep, and a couple of other things too. So
let's not argue and we're not gonna worry about these folks.
They have first world problems to the nth degree. Congratulations
to Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift and Mike Nichols and
Wendy Nichols too.

Attorney General, Your Attorney General, Dana Nessel, is blasting the
University of Michigan Medicine because they have decided to end
gender affirming treatment for minors, and she says that decision
is cowardly and shameful and dangerous and potentially illegal. On

(01:13:26):
the other end of our AT and T line right
now with reaction. As Ronald McDaniel, you knew her as
chair of the Michigan Republican Party and chair of the
Republican National Committee. She's now chief executive officer of the
Michigan Forward Network. Thank you for being here, Welcome back
to the airwaves.

Speaker 43 (01:13:43):
Always great to be with you, Thanks for having me.

Speaker 8 (01:13:45):
The Attorney General is not the only one talking about this.
In fact, State Representative Democrat Kerry Rainingands said this about that.

Speaker 37 (01:13:56):
Stay rebed Carrie ran Yance here and I'm recording a
video today to talk to you trans kids here in Michigan.
I want you to know that the care you might
want for gender firming care is legal in Michigan and
it's still continuing in a wide variety of places.

Speaker 30 (01:14:14):
You may have.

Speaker 37 (01:14:14):
Heard that the University of Michigan is going to stop
doing some of the safe and effective care. They're choosing
to do that. The grown ups at the University of
Michigan Hospital are not under court order or anything. They
are choosing to stop providing this care because they're scared
of losing millions and millions of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid,
which pay a lot of services at the University of Michigan.

(01:14:37):
And if they don't get those dollars, they can't provide
any care to anybody. But I want you to know,
as trans kids here in Michigan that this care is
obviously safe and effective. That's why it's been approved and
why it's been used all across the country and continues
to be used. So if you need to find a
new place to get care, it is still legal here

(01:14:58):
in Michigan, and reach out to our office. We'll be
able to connect you to what might still be available
in our community, and there's also new support coming online
for parents and families, so please contact our office. We
love you, We are really supportive of you as kids,
and we want to make sure that you can grow
up and thrive here in Michigan.

Speaker 8 (01:15:20):
Rana as a mother and a daughter.

Speaker 43 (01:15:22):
Your reaction, well, it's just sad to me to see
how many times to use kids and then talks about
life altering, transformative changes that they would be supporting kids
making to their bodies before they're even able to make
decisions for themselves. And I think it's a signal of

(01:15:44):
how rudderless the Democrat Party is. This is what they're
choosing to focus on. How do we make sure that
kids can mutilate or destroy their body before they're eighteen,
before they even know who they are, And instead of
talking about how do we make Michigan better, how do
we get more jobs, how do we make it more affordable?
This is embodies why the Democrat Party has lost their way,

(01:16:09):
because this is what they're choosing to focus on.

Speaker 8 (01:16:12):
Yeah, the word trans kids is you know, I'm not
a judgmental person, but it's awkward to me and why
must they go for our kids? Like that.

Speaker 43 (01:16:23):
I don't get you know, Michael, my daughter. I had
a daughter with a cleft palette who had many, many
surgeries and a lot of One of her final surgeries
they would not do until she had matured en us
gone through puberty because they said, your body changes dramatically,
we won't do this final surgery. That's what my doctors
told us to do. That was the safest thing to do.

(01:16:45):
For these representatives or Democrats to be out there saying
you should be changing and transforming your body your future.
Taking medical procedures into the hands of kids is just wrong.
And it's not a Republican or Democrat thing. It's common sense.
This is where our party has fallen down. We are
common sense, and most Americans when they are Democrats, talk

(01:17:08):
about these things and say kids should be mutilating and
medically changing their bodies and be allowed to do that,
and adults should be allowing that. They think this is nuts,
and this is what the Democrat Party is now.

Speaker 8 (01:17:22):
Also, the insistence on using the phrase safe and effective
before the word treatment seems like a.

Speaker 43 (01:17:29):
Tell to me, yeah, well, they're trying to normalize us,
and we all know this isn't normal. And by the way.
You know, Donald Trump came into Michigan and did a
very effective ad on this and talked about Democrats wanting
to use taxpayer dollars to do surgeries for prisoners, to

(01:17:51):
do trans surgeries for them, and even family members of
mine who are liberal. Believe it or not, I do
have some liberal family members. But this is crazy that
the Democrats are using our tax dollars to do this,
but to do it to kids. It's not just crazy,
it's wrong. And this state representative, Dana Nessel, they should

(01:18:12):
be called out for this. It's not safe and effective.
It is just wrong what they're trying to do to
our kids.

Speaker 8 (01:18:18):
Describing the University of Michigan as cowards for making this decision,
which of course they lay at the feet of Donald Trump,
with which everybody blames him for everything. It seems like
these days that he's a menacing bully.

Speaker 43 (01:18:35):
Yeah, protecting our children is pretty common sense to me.
Things like having police on the street pretty common sense.
I mean, this is where our party is right now.
Let's lower taxes. Hey, hey, Michigan, how about we pass
a budget. Senate Democrats Gretchen Whitmer, who's about to leave
for Japan, These are the ties of things that Michiganders want.
Right now, the Michigan House Speaker haulses past the budget

(01:18:58):
yesterday Democrats were nowhere to be seen, and we're about
to head into September with the school you're about to start.
If they really care about Michigan kids, why aren't they
getting them funding for education?

Speaker 8 (01:19:10):
I want to play one more piece of audio. This
is from Abdula Alsai, Democrat, who wants to be governor.
He ran for governor before, and if you'll stay right there,
we'll be able to do that. It's Michael Patrick Shields.
That's Ronald McDaniel. You recognize her voice because it was
a national voice and when she was chair of the
Republican National Committee and chair of the Michigan Republican Party.

(01:19:30):
Comes from a very very famous political family, and of
course you can find her now as the chief executive
officer of the Michigan Forward Network. What did Abdul Alsied say?
Stay tuned and we'll get her reaction in just a minute.
It's Michael Patrick Shields all across Michigan and beyond.

now instead of governor of Michigan. Nevertheless, Ronald McDaniel from
the Michigan Forward Network, well, comment on what we're about
to hear Abdul al Sayed say in front of a

Speaker 39 (01:21:13):
We have the courage to stand up to the power
brokers in our own party, let alone Trump.

Speaker 8 (01:21:18):
And his guals. We don't back down.

Speaker 17 (01:21:28):
We don't back down.

Speaker 7 (01:21:31):
We don't back down.

With all due respected, they go low, we don't go high.

Speaker 15 (01:21:35):
We take them to the mud and choke them out.

Speaker 8 (01:21:38):
Take them to the mud and choke them out, those goons.
How about that language.

Speaker 43 (01:21:44):
I don't know, would you want your state rapper or
our new senator to say that take him to the
mud and choke them out. I don't even know what
that means. I mean, that's it's pretty violent. Again, this
is where the Democrats are right now. Instead of saying,
how do what we uplift, how do we take our
part into a place where we're actually doing good things
for the American people, Let's just take them to the
mud and choke them out if they don't agree with us.

(01:22:06):
And that's pretty in line with their party right now.

Speaker 8 (01:22:09):
This is from the party that raised Holy hell because
of what happened on January sixth, and blamed rhetoric like that. Right.

Speaker 43 (01:22:21):
The Democrat Party, though, has doubled down on this rhetoric
rhetoric over and over again. I mean, he is referencing
Michelle Obama saying when they go low, we go high.
I mean that's what she said. That became their mantra,
and this is where they've gone. When they go low,
we're going to take them to the mud and choke
them out. And this is their son at Candidate Dana

(01:22:43):
Essl hasn't said anything about it. Jocelyn Benson, who's running
obviously for governor, has not said anything to repudiate this,
and the leaders and their party are stayed silent because
this is where they are just quickly.

Speaker 8 (01:22:59):
Donald try I've had a three and a half hour
cabinet meeting yesterday the President. I guess it was pretty entertaining.
What was it like to be in those rooms like that?

Speaker 43 (01:23:10):
I mean he is very entertaining when sometimes when he's
holding court and you're in a room with him and
he's talking, and it's amazing his grasp of information and
how quickly he can change from one subject to the other.
I'm sure the press loved it. I didn't watch it.

I didn't have three and a half hours to watch yesterday.

I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he wants the death

the National Guard intervention in DC, Trump said, if anybody
murders someone in the nation's capital, they get capital punishment.
He then called it a very strong preventative measure. Trump
made the comments during his seventh cabinet meeting of his
second term. President Trump is commenting on the engagement of

(01:24:23):
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 20 (01:24:25):
Well, I wish him aloud alone.

Speaker 18 (01:24:28):
He was asked about it at the White House, and
the laughter in the room came from his cabinet. Trump
has been a sharp critic of Swift after she endorsed
Kamala Harris for President. Trump added Kelsey as a great
player and Swift is a terrific person. The Department of
Justice is asking US Supreme Court to allow the Trump
administration to withhold billions of dollars in foreign aid. On Tuesday,

administration to continue making payments. The administration wants the High

The case was reported in Maryland. New World screw worms

livestock and sometimes humans. Multiple reports indicate the patient traveled

an outbreak. The case has been examined and verified by

after all these years? Maybe? The Michigan House yesterday passed

(01:28:10):
a seventy eight billion dollar budget for the fiscal year
twenty twenty six. It was a fifty nine to forty
five vote, setting up negotiations with the state Senate. The
Senate passed its budget this spring, but that was before
the federal budget was approved, and there were slashes and
so forth, and so. Not to get too far into
the weeds, but Matt Hall, the Speaker of the House,

(01:28:33):
he's a Republican from Richland, says they cut five billion
dollars of waste, fraud and abuse, and the budget includes
three point four billion dollars for roads without raising taxes.

We thanks Michael buzz you. I got to take stuff back.
I the intro at song in the the build up
to this was fantastic. Well that great, say listen very
I was very much entertained. I might I might do
my own remake of that song for Mcomb County.

Speaker 8 (01:29:13):
Yeah, that would be pretty good. If you do well,
we'd love to debut it here. We'll put it right
on the list.

Speaker 4 (01:29:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 45 (01:29:21):
No, I'm excited. I think we're finally getting somewhere. You know,
we're much closer than what was it, Proposition one when
you know, I was trying to help Governor Sneinder back then,
you know, push that proposition or proposal knowing it was
going to be a failed proposal. But it's just because
we need to figure out a solution for you know,
sustainable road funding. You know where we're at right now

(01:29:41):
just isn't cutting it. I think everybody would agree. Uh,
you know, through Act fifty one, you know, we're we're
seeing you know, decline in roads and the fixing of
bros and bridges, and it's just we're not getting ahead
of this problem. It's getting worse a year after year.
I've been talking about it for fifteen years. But I'm
very much supportive of what's going on right now with
our legislature. I think they're going to get someplace with this.

(01:30:04):
Then I do believe, you know, as they continue to
negotiate this with the Senate, we're finally going to have
a resolution. To be very elusive concern about road funding.

Speaker 8 (01:30:14):
Some people are being critical. In fact, just a few
minutes to go on this program, one of our guests
of the governor scheduling a trip to Japan right before
the budget deadline. Does it matter where she is.

Speaker 45 (01:30:26):
I think the governor is supportive of whatever plan finally
comes out of the House and Senate. I do believe
she's going to sign off on this. She talked about
fixing the damn roads, and whilst she was saying that,
you know, my mantra is always you know, there isn't
a damn road or damn bridge we can't fix if
we fix the funding. She was fortunately, you know, able
to do that with a bonding project that she did
to fix state roads. But it's still left us, you know,

(01:30:47):
in a lurch waiting for the legislator to solve the
problem with additional road funding for local roads. And so
I think she's been you know, supportive of that, so
you know, wherever she's at, I got to believe when
the news comes across that, you know, House and Senator
coming together with a plan that she could sign off on.
I truly believe she's going to do that, you know,
I think this would be a grand moment for both
Republicans and Democrats.

Speaker 44 (01:31:09):
You know.

Speaker 45 (01:31:09):
However they get there, Sure, there's going to be controversy.
There's going to be you know, some people that are
going to be upset about it. But in the end,
this is the most important issue I hear about every
day from the highway to the driveway. People are complaining
about roads and there isn't a damn road or a
damn bridge we can't fix if we fix the damn funding.

(01:31:30):
And I think we're finally getting there.

Speaker 8 (01:31:32):
Well, you've got a huge number of residents and a
huge number of people who drive and roads in Macomb County,
and they may complain about them, but they don't want
to pay money to get them fixed, do they the constituents?

Speaker 45 (01:31:45):
You know, I think it depends. There's been a few
local road villages that have passed in some cities here
in McComb County, overwhelmingly because they realize that money was
going to stay local and that promise was delivered of
fixing those roads and roads in their subs and so
you know, I believe it depends on you know, how
we position it. Would people, you know, do they trust

(01:32:06):
this money is going to not be diverted away from
this area like through Act fifty one, you know, we
become a donor county. And I think that's what this
plan is attempting to do. Try to figure out how
do we come up with, you know, additional road funding
that is sustainable, that's substantial, and is something that's going
to be outside of Act fifty one that doesn't have
a disparate impact on counties like Wayne Oaklhand McComb.

Speaker 8 (01:32:27):
What is Act fifty one?

Speaker 45 (01:32:29):
The Act fifty one is the Actor was designed in
nineteen fifty one. Of the simplest way of putting it,
you know, they divert money based on you know, linear
miles as opposed to lane miles. So you get the
same amount of road funding back for a two lane
road one mile out of two lane road as you
would for four lanes of a one mile road. And
so you know that's just that in and of itself

(01:32:50):
is you know, causes the problem for larger established communities,
you know, like Wayne Oakland, Macombe. You know, we have
a lot of multi lane roads, but yet we get
the same amount of funding per you know, linear mile
as opposed to know, adding up the lanes in a mile.

Speaker 8 (01:33:05):
That makes about as much sense as having a gas
tax that doesn't go to the roads either, And that's
something people have complained about for a long time. Is
that still the way it goes?

Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 45 (01:33:16):
And I guess you know, that's the question is you know,
nineteen fifty one. I think it was designed because we realized, okay,
people wanted to drive up north, and so how do
we help, you know, with some of our funding to
support building roads up in the northern.

Speaker 4 (01:33:26):
Part of the state.

Speaker 45 (01:33:27):
And so to do that, you know, they couldn't, you know,
the money that they brought in from gas taxes, the
money they brought in from vehicle registrations wasn't enough to
sustain that. So the act itself, I think provided an
opportunity for us to help in that regard. But I
don't think it had the foresight of thinking, Okay, well,
hang on a second, as these roads start to deteriorate
in the southern part of the state, you know, how

(01:33:49):
does that reverse itself? And how do we fix those
roads when the funding is supporting you know, over one
hundred percent of the funding going to those communities up
in the north.

Speaker 11 (01:33:59):
Part of the state.

Speaker 45 (01:34:00):
They're benefiting from it. And it continues to go that way,
you know, as yours go on.

Speaker 6 (01:34:05):
There.

Speaker 45 (01:34:05):
There wasn't a mechanism in Acts fifty one that was
thought about, you know what it came to fixing roads,
so that became a problem.

Speaker 8 (01:34:14):
Brooks Patterson and Ed McNamara were famously partisan, although famously civil. Also,
do you find that your role as county executive is
less partisan?

Speaker 4 (01:34:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:34:27):
I do.

Speaker 45 (01:34:27):
I mean I thought, you know, he made the sheriff.
I thought it was less partisan. You know, being the
county executive should be less partisan. I think there should
be more of this less partisan thing going on. And
I'm not saying like when we talk about it. You know,
it's not about being an independent. It's not about being
a Democrat or Republicans being less partisan, you know. And
so you know, whether you're a governor or the president. Okay,
maybe you got elected because you have to you know,
you had to have a moniker, you had to you know,

(01:34:49):
pick a party. But the reality is you're the president
of the country. You're the governor of the state of Michigan.
I'm the executive of the county. So I'm not the
executive of a democratic party. The governor's not the you know,
she's not the governor of Themocratic party. And the president's
at the president of the Republican party. He's a president
of the United States. And so you know, when I
hear that, it's like, Okay, let's set that aside. Try
to figureut, how do we resolve this issue instead of

(01:35:10):
taking those shots or barbs or being the census or
trying to you know, be an, try to create a
way where you're opposing something just because you know it's
a Democrat that got the idea or a Republican that
put the idea forward. We've got to stop opposing things
just because of the Democrat Republican side of things.

How are you, sir?

Speaker 11 (01:39:52):
Good morning.

Speaker 8 (01:39:53):
Oh I'm I'm curious. This is a topic that doesn't
seem to really want to go away, and that is
the Trump de rangement syndrome, which I say with all
due respect because I see examples of it all the time.
And maybe it isn't derangement. Maybe it's just, you know,
people who are kind of misinformed about what's really going
on in the world, and that is the fake media.

(01:40:17):
I saw a post from someone I know and respect
and this person said, still on board with this guy,
then neither you nor he will have any idea what
America is all about, what its principles are founded on.
At what it means to be an American. Despite what
you tell yourself, you don't have American ideals as you're
guiding light, and you forfeited your right to call yourself

(01:40:41):
a patriot if you support Donald Trump. That's pretty harsh language.
And the reason that he was provoked to post this
is because there was a clip yesterday of the President
in his cabinet meeting where he said I have the
right to do anything I want. Now you decide whether

(01:41:01):
that is taken out of context when you listen to
what he actually said and what he was talking about.
And it had to do with fighting crime in the
cities in America.

Speaker 20 (01:41:11):
So I would have much more respect for Pritsker if
he'd called me up and said, I have a problem,
can you help me fix it? I would be so
happy to do it. I don't love not that I
don't have the right to do anything I want to do.
I'm the president of the United States. If I think
our country is in danger, and it is in danger
in these cities, I can do it, no problem going

(01:41:32):
in and solving you know, his difficulties. But it would
be nice if did Colin. They say, would you do it?

Speaker 8 (01:41:38):
And we was that so terrible what he said.

Speaker 25 (01:41:43):
No, but you know, I mean it's the hyperbole of
both sides that get them all in trouble.

Speaker 34 (01:41:51):
You know, he.

Speaker 25 (01:41:53):
Has put himself in this kind of position where he's
doing a lot of authoritarian movements that make people who
are on the other side of him just go ballistic,
and so they react in a way that I think

(01:42:16):
undermines democracy as much as anything he says, and that
is that they don't tolerate you or I or anybody
else having any other alternative beliefs. So, you know, it's
kind of a confluence of people who are on either
side of Trump's issues, and then all the rest of

(01:42:38):
the people like me are caught in the middle saying
to themselves, well, you know, obviously there's some problems, and
I think the president overreacts plenty oft times, and I
think that a lot of his detractors overreact all the times.
And so I'm sure that you feel that way because

(01:42:59):
the the Internet has become a medium that is has
no rules, has no boundaries, has no explanations that it
has to make, so people can say anything they want
to when they do.

Speaker 41 (01:43:17):
No.

Speaker 8 (01:43:17):
I noticed yesterday again somebody posted a quote supposedly attributed
to Pope Leo, which actually is something that he said
before he was pope, but it fit the narrative for
certain people who hate Donald Trump. So it said a
leader who mocks the weak and exalts himself and prays
on the innocent is not sent by God. He's sent

(01:43:38):
to test you, and many are failing. Supposedly the words
of Pope Leo, which people have no problem posting and reposting,
except for the fact that the Vatican has officially confirmed
the quote is fake. That they do say that the
message is consistent, but he didn't say that, So that's

(01:43:59):
for us. Strating to me is I don't know what
to believe or who to believe anymore. And people are
too likely to jump on something if it sort of
serves their purpose, even if it comes from the Holy Father. Supposedly,
was it?

Speaker 11 (01:44:13):
You know?

Speaker 8 (01:44:13):
JB. Pritzker? Was it unrealistic? For Donald Trump? Everything's kind
of personal with him, it seems, And you know, is
it realistic for him to think that J. B. Pritzker
would reach out for help from the federal government to
fight crime in Chicago?

Speaker 25 (01:44:28):
Well, I think it's unrealistic. Politically, I don't know whether
it's unrealistic, you know, in reality for people to reach out.
I think that there are plenty of mayors who would
like to help and feel that they can't deal with
with their situation in their communities as strongly as they'd like.

(01:44:52):
And so I don't you know, I mean, the Trump
people have done a lot of work with the Pritzker
family over the years, so they don't come into this
with clean hands.

Speaker 11 (01:45:03):
I mean, he is his.

Speaker 25 (01:45:04):
Family has done a lot of projects in the same
business as the Pritzker family, and so you know, they
just both need to cool down a little bit.

Speaker 11 (01:45:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:45:18):
Well, you know, we have a governor who's asking the
president and the federal government for Oh, by the way,
he called Pritzker a slob yesterday in that cabinet meeting.
That probably doesn't help. But anyway, our governor is looking
for help. She doesn't mind going physically to Washington, d C.
To ask for the help of the people who suffered
in northern Michigan from the ice storm in March.

Speaker 25 (01:45:39):
Yeah, and she gets a lot of criticism for that,
and she got a lot of criticism when she didn't
go to Washington. So you know, you can't win when
you're the governor and you're trying to use the resources
that are available to you to help people out. That
just goes with the territory. So if you're a democratic
governor like Gretchen is and you've been pretty critical or

(01:46:02):
present in the past, you kind of have to do
some makeup calls in order to get on his good
side because he's not going to react to you and
respond to you the way you want him to and
until you do, until you have some kind of relationship.
So I think that's what she's trying to do, and
that's what she's supposed to do.

Speaker 8 (01:46:19):
Dennis much more knows. He's been there. He was Governor
Snyder's chief of staff now with the Honigmann Firm and
Oakland University. When it comes to healthcare costs, we often
focus on one thing, our insurance premiums. But whatever, we're
only seeing part of the picture. The truth is our
health insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the
cost equation. But to really understand what's driving up costs,

(01:46:41):
we need to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream,
there are costs like the price is charged by hospitals
and doctors, and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration,
and technology. These costs flow downstream directly into your health
insurance premium. That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan

(01:47:02):
is advocating for a system wide solution to address the
rising cost of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal,
needs to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that

upstream costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit

Oh my, it was another walkoff walk MPs, but this
time it was against the Tigers, as Will vest walked
in that winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The Tigers did fall to the Athletics seven to six,
and Sacramento Riley Green had a grand slam. For Detroit,
Cole Keith also had a home run, so the Tigers
have dropped three in a row on the heels of

(01:49:42):
that five game winning streak. For whatever reason, this team
has struggled both times they have played in a minor
league ballpark this season, first with the Tampa Bay Rays
playing at the spring training facility of the New York Yankees.
I think they won one single game in that series.
Maybe they we can do that against the Athletics tonight.

(01:50:02):
This is not this is a getaway day game, but
it's a ten o'clock start. It's because the Tigers have
tomorrow off, so that's gonna happen tonight. Casey Mize will

league was the Giants over the Cubs five to two.
Justin Verlander got the win in that game for the Giants.

That's the first time he's had a home win with
the Giants season. It's been a struggle. The Dodgers winners
over the Red six to three. And now we're gonna
take it back to the Tigers real quick because Major
League Baseball revealed their twenty twenty sixth schedule, and where
are the Tigers opening the season. It will be on
the road and the Wild West. Yeah, I think we

there as it will be against the San Diego Padres,
and that's gonna be on March twenty sixth. The Tigers

the Tigers beating the Padres and of course falling to
the Cardinals a number of years ago. The Baseball will
have an opening night a standalone game. By the way,
it will be the Giants taking on the Yankees on
March twenty fifth, and that is brought to you by
Dean Transportation.

Speaker 8 (01:51:28):
Good listing all day long in the great radio station.

Speaker 1 (01:51:40):
God bless you, I love you, and I'll see you
at work.

Speaker 3 (01:51:44):
Tomorrow NBC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 18 (01:51:52):
Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook plans to challenger removal
by President Trump. According to an attorney for Cook, Trump
has no authority to move Cook and the firing lacks
any factual or legal basis. More gen z Ers in
America are becoming less inclined to describe themselves as thriving.
Tammy Trujillo as details.

Speaker 21 (01:52:10):
The Annual Voices of gen Z surveyed participants between the
ages of thirteen and twenty eight and found that forty
five percent of them described themselves as thriving, marking a
drop from the forty nine percent who considered themselves thriving
in twenty twenty four and the forty seven percent who
said the same in the twenty twenty three study. Researchers
believe the drop is likely fueled by adult members of
gen Z, as only thirty nine percent of them see

(01:52:32):
themselves in a good place.

Speaker 18 (01:52:33):
I'm Tammy Trucheo and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey are
planning to tie the knot. The superstar singer songwriter made
the announcement in a post on Instagram. Mark Mayfield NBC
News Radio.

Speaker 21 (01:52:44):
In the Northeast, mostly sunny with highs topping out in
the low eighties from Boston down through New York and Philadelphia.
An isolated shower could pass through northern New England. Ormand
sticky with highs near ninety in the Mid Atlantic. In
the Southeast, thunderstorms are likely, especially across the Carolina's Georgia
and Flora. Things have settled down in the Deep South,
with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid eighties.
A few lingering showers are expected from Alabama to Tennessee.

(01:53:08):
Sunny throughout the Midwest with highs in the upper seventies
to mid eighties. There's a weak system that could spark
a few showers around the Great Lakes.

(01:53:30):
California stay mild in the seventies. Inland valleys will push
into the nineties under sunny skies, and the Pacific Northwest
temperatures will top out in the mid eighties, with cooler
sixties along the coast and partly cloudy skies. That's your
national forecast. I'm Tammy Triheo, NBC News Radio.

Speaker 18 (01:54:00):
I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he wants the death
penalty for any murders in Washington, d C. While touting
the National Guard intervention in DC, Trump said, if anybody
murders someone in the nation's capital, they get capital punishment.
He then called it a very strong preventative measure. Trump
made the comments during his seventh Cabinet meeting of his
second term. President Trump is commenting on the engagement of

(01:54:22):
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 20 (01:54:24):
Well, I wish him a light alone.

Speaker 18 (01:54:27):
He was asked about it at the White House, and
the laughter in the room came from his cabinet. Trump
has been a sharp critic of Swift after she endorsed
Kamala Harris for President. Trump added Kelsey as a great
player and Swift is a terrific person. The Department of
Justice is asking US Supreme Court to allow the Trump
administration to withhold billions of dollars in foreign aid. On Tuesday,
the DOJ fiuled an emergency appeal requesting that the court

(01:54:49):
pause a federal judge's order that would force the Trump
administration to continue making payments. The administration wants the High
Court to intervene before the deadline set by the order
September the thirtieth. The has already been approved by Congress,
and the DOJ are use only Congress as the authority
to challenge the administration's efforts to withhold it. Health in
Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior is set to

(01:55:10):
announce causes of autism by September.

Speaker 24 (01:55:13):
Brian Shok reports Kennedy has previously vowed to find the
cause of growing rates of autism, calling it an epidemic
that dwarfs the COVID epidemic. The HHS Secretary discussed his
intentions to reveal the causes of autism during a cabinet
meeting held by President Trump on Tuesday. Kennedy has long
claimed that environmental factors or vaccines are likely culprits behind

(01:55:36):
the rising rate of autism diagnoses. I'm Brian Shook.

Speaker 18 (01:55:40):
And SpaceX is celebrating a successful test light of Starship,
the massive uncrewed rocket launch from starbased Texas, Tuesday night.
The latest test came after three straight setbacks. You're listening
to the latest from NBC News Radio. Consumer confidence dipped
in August. Matt Mattinson has details.

Speaker 7 (01:55:57):
The Conference Boards consumer Confidence index by more than a
point from the July reading, as consumers became less optimistic
about the economy. The monthly survey noted concerns about tariffs
and higher prices including food and groceries rose again in August.
Purchasing plans for homes remained stable, while discretionary spending for
dining out, entertainment, and vacations were all down.

Speaker 18 (01:56:18):
Cracker Barrel is doing a one to eighty and ditching
its new logo. Cracker Barrel unveiled its new logo last
week that got rid of an older man leaning against
a barrel. The response was mostly negative, and late Tuesday,
the company said in a statement, our new logo is
going away and our old timer will remain even President
Trump weighed in on the controversy, advising that the restaurant

(01:56:38):
chain should admit a mistake based on customer response. President
Trump says he's going to impose substantial tariffs on countries
that do not remove digital taxes. William Denzel reports that
in a post on truth Social Trump also said he'll
restrict chip exports to those nations.

Speaker 38 (01:56:54):
The U has the ability to find major tech players
if deemed to not being compliance with regulations such as
the Digital Markets Act. Meta and Opper among those accused
of such violations, with the US saying that these rules
amount to censorship.

Speaker 18 (01:57:10):
Countries that impose digital taxes argue that companies like Amazon
operate within their borders, taking huge profits from citizens while
paying nothing to the government. And Wall Street closed slightly
higher yesterday ahead of quarterly earnings from chip giant Nvidia.
Investors largely shunk off President Trump's removal of Federal Reserve
Governor Lisa Cook from the bank's Central Board. Cook plans

(01:57:31):
to file a lawsuit, and the FEN said it will
abide by any court decision on the matter. At the
closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained one
hundred and thirty five points to close at forty five
four eighteen. The S and P five hundred added twenty
six points to sixty four to sixty five. The Nasdaq
rose ninety four points to end the session at twenty
one five forty four. Consumer and Business News, I'm Marknefield.

Speaker 34 (01:57:53):
Let's start in The NFL, Saints named Spencer Rattler their
starting quarterback. The Browns tapped Dylan Gabriel QB two, who
Loshador Sanders survived the Cuts will be the third string quarterback,
and Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said there will be
a ramp up plan for edge rusher Micah Parsons if
he suits up for the season opener.

Speaker 17 (01:58:14):
Matt's Walking Off beat the Phillies.

Speaker 34 (01:58:16):
Brandon Nimmo drove in the game winning run with the Singles,
said it's a good time to get hot.

Speaker 35 (01:58:22):
You know, the hottest team wins in playoffs. It doesn't
matter who's the best team, it's it's the hottest team.
So this would be a good time to keep things going.
You know, we're very happy with the way the offense.

Speaker 8 (01:58:33):
Is playing right now.

Speaker 34 (01:58:35):
Mets now five back of the Phillies for the top
spot in the NL East. At the US Open, Top
Seedy Onick Center one in straight sets to advance to
the second round. On the women's side, third seed Coco
Golf one in three sets to advance to round two.

Speaker 17 (01:58:50):
That's sports. I'm Ronza Moss.

Speaker 21 (01:58:53):

Speaker 2 (02:00:16):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.

Speaker 48 (02:00:20):

Shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing. He's heard from
the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the halls of power
and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael Patrick Shields.

Speaker 12 (02:00:32):
When we be back.

Speaker 29 (02:00:34):
I can't tell just yet.

Speaker 3 (02:00:36):
I just arrived from Paris.

Speaker 20 (02:00:37):
I'm at the villa of this man that I absolutely
must see, and he's not even here yet.

Speaker 12 (02:00:43):
But then who is there?

Speaker 4 (02:00:44):
Just the staff of christ.

Speaker 3 (02:00:47):
I'll be back just as quickly as I can.

Speaker 17 (02:00:50):
I don't understand why I can't be with you for
a day.

Speaker 44 (02:00:52):
Or two, because it's not practical, Darling.

Speaker 11 (02:00:54):
I'm constantly moving around.

Speaker 4 (02:00:56):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air Morning World.

Speaker 8 (02:01:01):
We are on the move, and so are you. Heading
into Labor Day weekend, many of you will be traveling in.
A Man on the Move too, is Larry Olmstead, the
author of Fans How Watching Sports makes Us happier, healthier,
and more understanding and real Food, Fake Food, and you
can find him in various publications including Forbes dot com.

(02:01:22):
Good morning, and welcome back to the program.

Speaker 44 (02:01:25):
Thank you, Michael, and as always, it's a pleasure to
be brought to you by our friends at Boin Resorts,
with eleven golf and ski resorts across North America. At
Michigan on North America's Leader and outdoor Recreation Boin dot com.

Speaker 8 (02:01:38):
There will be people at Boyne who will be playing
golf this weekend, and some of them will have an
eye on the television because college football is back. Tony
cuthfert I see there's a big game to start it
all off, Ohio State and Texas number one versus number three.

Speaker 2 (02:01:53):
Yeah, this is massive. Both of our pregame shows will
be there on ESPN and Fox. Some say it's unfortunate
that it starts at it should be a primetime game,
but nonetheless, all eyes.

Speaker 8 (02:02:03):
Will be on it. Why can't somebody just enjoy a
game at noon instead of griping about that? Isn't it
kind of nice to get started and play? And where
is that game? Is it Columbus or Austin?

Speaker 2 (02:02:14):
It is in Columbus, which adds the wrinkle as Texas
is the number one team in the land, but they
are an underdog in the first game of the season
by two and a half to the Buckeyes, which has
never happened before in college football.

Speaker 8 (02:02:27):
We heard at the Virtuoso Conference Larry Olmstad that people
in the world are traveling for sports. Maybe more than
they ever did, not just Formula one to glamorous destinations,
but they're willing to go to Columbus.

Speaker 44 (02:02:41):
Absolutely.

Speaker 11 (02:02:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 44 (02:02:42):
Sports travel is sort of a hot topic this year
in the travel industry, and it's across you know everything,
It's across your major professional sports. It's among the big events.
Like you mentioned, f won the World Cup. Soccer, you know,
has been super growing in popularity, even at big tennis events.
You know, there's big fans for pretty much everything. And

(02:03:03):
then there's also a growth in participant sports. More people
are traveling to actually do things like ski and play
golf than ever before.

Speaker 4 (02:03:11):
At the same time, I am.

Speaker 8 (02:03:14):
Going to London to stay at the Red Carnation Hotels
when I am in October in Blady And you maybe
know that Wimbledon is a big event there people travel
for that. But I'm told, because you're an Easterner, that
attending the US Open tennis tournament in New York at
this time of year is a very sort of funky

(02:03:34):
and unique experience.

Speaker 44 (02:03:37):
Yeah, it's kind of leaned back for one of those
big events, especially compared to Wimbledon. It's informal, you know,
it's like kind of like a street fair, outdoor party
meets a sporting event. You're out there, wander around. A
lot of people go and I don't think they even
watched the tennis. You know, there's so many courts, open space, bars.

Speaker 11 (02:03:55):
I did.

Speaker 44 (02:03:56):
I used to live in Queens, not far from where
it is. But I will tell you Wimbledon when you
go there, make sure you take the tour. They have
a tour of the facility. They just got permission to
expand it. They've been trying to buy this land next
to them for a long time and they got it.
And apparently they sell cans of balls that you know,
are specially made for their surface. So that's like the

(02:04:17):
big souvenir again.

Speaker 8 (02:04:19):
Super cool. Well, I'll look forward to it and I'll
mention your name at the Milestone Hotel when I am
there celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of lath Amelia the restaurant,
and I will be m seeing that event as well.
And speaking of international sports, you are angling to head
to the Olympics. I have never been to the Olympics,
have you.

Speaker 44 (02:04:39):
I have never been, and I've always kind of preferred
the Winter Games to the Summer Games, just because I'm
an avid skier, and you know it's had a little
bit more appealed to me. Also, you know, for the
last twelve years the Winter Olympics have been in pretty
I hate to say it, but crappy places Korea, Russia, China,
and now they're going to Italy, which you know, I
know is a favorite of yours and favorite of mine,

(02:05:00):
where we know what a better combo Italy quarteen on
Milan and the Olympics. So I'm hoping to get over there.

Speaker 8 (02:05:08):
And there will be, of course the Summer Olympics in
the United States after that, which will draw people to
all over the country. Even though they're based in Los Angeles,
the games are spread as far as I thought. I
heard surfing in Tahiti and softball in Oklahoma City.

Speaker 44 (02:05:26):
Well, I know that for the Paris Olympics they had
the surfing in Tahiti because it's a French colony and
it was the furthest that they've ever had an event.
I don't think they would do that for la because
it's not part of the US. But maybe Hawaii.

Speaker 8 (02:05:38):
Oh maybe I mixed that up. You know, I lose
track of time sometimes, but anyway, I know.

Speaker 44 (02:05:43):
Your job, you get confused between whether you're in Tahiti
or Hawaii.

Speaker 8 (02:05:47):
Well you heard that guy at the beginning of the
beginning of the segment. Here every day is a Saturday
to me, I love it, and all big celebration now
across America because Taylor Swift and Travis kel of well
they're going to tie the knot. They got engaged, and
there was a picture posted because nothing ever happens without

(02:06:07):
a social media picture of the two of them getting
engaged in a garden. And then there was a lot
of question where was this garden, because you know, if
somebody wants to get engaged, they're going to want to
go where Taylor Swift did it. So she has houses
in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Nashville, Tennessee, Beverly Hills, and

(02:06:30):
also a townhouse in Tribeca, and so people were sort
of speculating which one of those was it. And it
turns out that it's a garden in Lee's Summit, Missouri,
which I presume is the backyard of one of Travis
Kelsey's home. I guess they decided that he would have

(02:06:51):
it over at his place, the least glamorous of all
those place, is true.

Speaker 44 (02:06:56):
Yeah, I would have guess watch Hill Rhode Island because
it's in your the time of year everybody wants to
be in New England. We're coming into fall foliage. The
weather's perfect. It's kind of hot in her other places.
But you know, if you're going to get engaged and
you're the guy and you're making a proposal, maybe you
want to do it on your home turf, just like
he'd like to play play football in Kansas City.

Speaker 8 (02:07:18):
Well, now the race will be on as to where
the wedding will take place and how that will be done.
And this could be bigger than the Jeff Bezos wedding
in Venice maybe and even more to the point where
will they honeymoon? And it'll probably certainly have to be
after the NFL season, yeah.

Speaker 44 (02:07:36):
Assuming he plays again. Now he's pretty set up financially
with his new bride, so maybe he doesn't have to.

Speaker 8 (02:07:42):
Oh, unless there's an ironclad prenuptial agreement. I talked about
earlier with Mike Nichols, but that wouldn't be very romantic
to talk about like that. Labor Day weekend, people are
on the move. Are you at home this weekend or traveling?

Speaker 11 (02:07:58):
I am at home.

Speaker 44 (02:07:59):
I try to really travel over holiday weekends because if
you don't have to, it makes your life much easier.
It will be very busy, both on the roads and
in the airport. All I can say is, you know,
have patience, trust in the process, and keep your fingers crossed.
But I'll be traveling again next week.

Speaker 8 (02:08:18):
Okay. Larry Olmstead, you can follow his travels at Forbes
dot com and the book Fans How Watching Sports Makes
Us happier, healthier, and more understanding. Tony Cuthbert will talk
sports a little bit later this hour. It's MPs through
the AT and T microphones.

More performers are being announced for this year's Mtvvmas. Tate McCrae, Doja, Cat,
Jelly Roll, Post Malone, and Conan Gray have all been
added to the lineup. They joined previously announced artists like
Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, and Busta Rhymes. Lady Gaga is
the most nominated artist this year, followed by Bruno Mars

(02:11:21):
and Kendrick Lamar. The MTV VMAs will be held September
seventh in New York. Disney is suing Dish Network over
several new packages offered by Sling TV.

Speaker 18 (02:11:32):
The internet TV service recently introduced passes that allow customers
to pay for a week, weekend, or even a single
day of live TV. Disney is now suing Dish Network,
which owns Slang, claiming this violates Disney's programming distribution agreements.
Sling customers are currently able to watch the Disney and
ESPN programming through monthly subscription plans, and Disney claims any
shorter subscription violates the agreement between it and Dish Network.

Speaker 3 (02:11:56):
I'm Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 16 (02:12:00):
K Pop Demon Hunters is now Netflix's most watched movie ever.
The animated film has racked up two hundred and thirty
six million views since it premiered in June on the
streaming service. That broke the previous record set by the
Dwayne Johnson Ryan Reynolds Galgado action comedy Red Notice with
two hundred and thirty point nine million views.

Speaker 17 (02:12:23):
That's entertainment. I'm Jacqueline carl.

Speaker 41 (02:12:34):
I just go.

Speaker 6 (02:12:37):
To say.

Speaker 33 (02:12:39):
I love you.

Speaker 47 (02:12:43):
I just go.

Speaker 17 (02:12:45):
To say about the shockcket.

Speaker 4 (02:12:51):
I just go.

Speaker 11 (02:12:54):
To say.

Speaker 6 (02:12:56):
I love.

Speaker 8 (02:13:00):
And not me from well great Motown star Stevie Wonder,
just calling to say I love you. And I heard
this song recently again and I thought, you know, we
all love to call some people and just tell them
that we love them once in a while. And you know,

(02:13:20):
we have lots of guests on this program, sometimes ten
or twelve a morning, and uh so, you know, and
I don't get on the phone too much during the
day after that, but I thought, yeah, maybe, just maybe
for the heck of it, I'm going to call someone
and say I love them and they might think it's
weird and they might say, well, what else do you need?
I said nothing, I'm just calling to say I love you.

(02:13:40):
And so we decided to have some victims every once
in a while and call them by surprise and say that.

Speaker 4 (02:13:47):
And so.

Speaker 8 (02:13:51):
My mother listens to the program all the time, and
she said, I heard that you were calling someone to
say I love you, and I thought it was gonna
be me. Well it is today. Gladys Shields, Gladys your
check Shields in Trenton, Michigan is on our AT and
T line right now, and we are calling to say

(02:14:13):
this from Stevie Wonder.

Speaker 11 (02:14:18):
To say I love you.

Speaker 4 (02:14:22):
I love you, mom, Oh, thank you, thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (02:14:26):
I love you too a million miles face.

Speaker 8 (02:14:32):
Well that's nice, and I will ask you though, I
know you love the Tigers too. And they're on a
bit of a losing streak. What's going on?

Speaker 6 (02:14:40):
I don't know. Did they lose last night? I didn't.
I went to bed.

Speaker 8 (02:14:44):
Tony tell her the news. I don't want to tell her.

Speaker 2 (02:14:47):
I don't blame you for going to bed. It was
at ten o'clock first pitch, and they went to extra
innings and the Tigers did lose seven to six to
the uh Oakland Athletics or Sacramento Athletics of Las Vegas.

Speaker 6 (02:14:57):
Oh my gosh, extra So they were up there, they
were trying to win.

Speaker 8 (02:15:05):
How many in a row is that now?

Speaker 9 (02:15:07):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:15:08):
Just a simple number of two. We're going to turn
it around today though.

Speaker 41 (02:15:12):
Yeah, yeah, that's good.

Speaker 11 (02:15:16):
It is.

Speaker 2 (02:15:16):
It's a getaway day. But the first pitch is at
ten o'clock because the Tigers have the day off tomorrow.

Speaker 17 (02:15:24):
Oh my god, that's pretty late.

Speaker 8 (02:15:28):
Oh you watched the first pitch and then send them
off and let's say that's it.

Speaker 6 (02:15:32):
Okay, that's it. I can't watch it anymore. I watched
it on my phone because they can't get it over here.

Speaker 33 (02:15:39):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 8 (02:15:41):
I'm curious. You make occasional trips with your friends to
Cracker Barrel. And they've been in the news quite a
bit lately because they were going to change the sign
and take away the old man on the sign, and
they were going to change up the restaurants and make
it more modern, and there was a lot of criticism
about that, and so in the news maybe while you

(02:16:03):
slept there was the announcement they are not going to
take away the old man after all because people were upset,
so the founder will stay on the logo. How do
you feel about that?

Speaker 6 (02:16:14):
Oh, that's great. We're going there September thirteenth.

Speaker 8 (02:16:18):
It's on your calendar.

Speaker 6 (02:16:22):
Yes, yes, yes, on a Friday. No, maybe Saturday, I'm
not sure. But we're going there with the ladies over
here at Trenton Towers.

Speaker 8 (02:16:33):
You're going to make a bit a visit to Cracker Barrel.

Speaker 6 (02:16:36):
Oh yeah, yes, we're going to go there.

Speaker 8 (02:16:39):
Why do you make Cracker Barrel one of your destinations because.

Speaker 6 (02:16:43):
They're shopping there. You know, we had a shop and
they got a store there.

Speaker 8 (02:16:51):
Kind of things are in the store.

Speaker 6 (02:16:54):
Yes, it's store and they have sales so that's great.
And they to get their sweatshirts.

Speaker 8 (02:17:02):
I see. And they have those games. You ever play
those games on the table with the peg where you
lose the t's around?

Speaker 6 (02:17:08):
Oh no, no, no, no, I don't do that kind
of stuff.

Speaker 8 (02:17:15):
What is the what is the menu item that you're
looking forward to? Do you have a favorite there?

Speaker 6 (02:17:21):
Yes? I like the fish and chips.

Speaker 8 (02:17:25):
All right. Well, you're Polish, but that's a little bit
Irish for you to be liking the fish and chips.

Speaker 6 (02:17:32):
I don't know some Irish.

Speaker 8 (02:17:35):
What about that chicken fried steak I think they have there.
That's kind of a southern thing.

Speaker 6 (02:17:40):
Yeah, that's good too, that's good too. But I like
their coast law and everything is really good.

Speaker 8 (02:17:47):
Did you say that you were taking a busload of
old bags from Trenton Tower to Cracker Barrel.

Speaker 6 (02:17:56):
Yes, you're you're thinking of what dances?

Speaker 48 (02:18:00):
Well, he was about a lot of reading and watching
the boats go by. I just but I said you
were going to Turkey vote tomorrow. If you want to
come over and meet us for lunch, I don't know
what you're doing. We're going to be there about eleven
o'clock or something with the bust a little bit old bags,
So talk to you later.

Speaker 6 (02:18:21):
Oh my god, yes, go.

Speaker 8 (02:18:28):
Well those are the same ladies he was referring to.
And you're you're keeping his tradition alive of going to
different destinations.

Speaker 48 (02:18:36):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (02:18:36):
Yes. They all missed him very much, and he gave
a good time on the bus on the van. It's
a van.

Speaker 8 (02:18:47):
You all went downtown Detroit recently, on the recent trip,
didn't you.

Speaker 6 (02:18:51):
Oh yes, the Diamond Jacks.

Speaker 8 (02:18:54):
How is that?

Speaker 6 (02:18:55):
Oh that was great.

Speaker 9 (02:18:56):
It was so much fun.

Speaker 6 (02:18:58):
And they the monag the guy on the boat, he
you know, he told us all about the Canadian side
and the American side of the features and it was fun.
It was great. And they had a carousel there.

Speaker 8 (02:19:16):
Waiting the history on the boat. Well, you raised three
kids that are in show business, radio, Lauriers with the
Red Wings and Bobby on TV as a weather man.
That's pretty incredible.

Speaker 6 (02:19:28):
Oh it is, sure is I'm so proud of all
of you.

Speaker 8 (02:19:32):
Well, we're proud of you. And just called to say
I love you, that's all, Thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (02:19:39):
I love you too, and I love Tony everything about
the show.

Speaker 8 (02:19:44):
Thank you. And I know that you love Mission Point Resort.
And I bet you Liz Ware is listening and she
sends it back to you. It's Michael Patrick Shields. That's
my mom. Glad of Shields.

John Kennedy, the chair of the West Michigan Policy Forum,
Our governor was elected, saying she was going to fix
the damn roads.

Speaker 5 (02:21:07):
Where are we on that fight? The fact that we
had a nine billion dollars circlus. We didn't spend that
money on fixing the road. We spend that money on
court projects. The money is there in the budget, and
we'd like it to be allocated to the things the
governor promised.

We sure are good morning, Michael Patrick Well speaking about
people being.

Speaker 47 (02:22:12):
On the move.

Speaker 9 (02:22:12):
The stock market was on the move yesterday. The Dow
finished up one hundred thirty five points two forty five
thy four eighteen. S and P five hundred finished up
twenty six points two six thousand and four sixty five.
The NASTAC finished up ninety four points two twenty one
thousand and five forty four. In this morning futures, we'll
keep moving higher. The dolls have brought me up thirty points.

(02:22:34):
The S and P five hundreds approxim me up five points.
The nastacs approxs me out twenty points. W t at
Koudel is holding a sixty three dollars a barrel. Kaymack
Scold is currently at three thousand and four to twenty five.
Bitcoin is on the move, currently at one hundred and
eleven thousand, four hundred, and the US one year Treasury
has a curred yield a three point eighty eight percent.
This morning, here's what we're talking about in the office today.

(02:22:56):
We are keeping an eye on shares of Cole's. Colestock
is more than fifteen percent after the retailer blue past
Wall Street second quarter earnings and revenue expectations. The company
also tightens its full year guidance outlook towards the top
of its range, a sign of growing confidence. Coles has
been working hard to reverse slumping sales and is still

(02:23:17):
searching for a permanent CEO. And of course when we
keep it an eye on shares in the video. The
video releases its results after the closing bell today. Given
its massive weight in the S and P five hundred

set the tone for tomorrow's market. For sure, we are

In news radio, I'm Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 18 (02:24:02):
President Trump says he wants the death penalty for any
murders in Washington, d C. While touting the National Guard
intervention in DC. Trump said, if anybody murders someone in
the nation's capital, they get capital punishment. He then called
it a very strong preventative measure. Trump made the comments
during his seventh Cabinet meeting of his second term. President
Trump is commenting on the engagement of Taylor Swift and

(02:24:24):
Travis Kelcey well.

Speaker 23 (02:24:25):
I wish him aloud alone.

Speaker 18 (02:24:28):
He was asked about it at the White House, and
the laughter in the room came from his cabinet. Trump
has been a sharp critic of Swift after she endorsed
Kamala Harris for President. Trump added Kelsey as a great
player and Swift is a terrific person. The Department of
Justice is asking US Supreme Court to allow the Trump
administration to withhold billions of dollars in foreign aid. On Tuesday,
the DOJ fiuled an emergency appeal requesting that the court

(02:24:51):
pause a federal judge's order that would force the Trump
administration to continue making payments. The administration wants the High
Court to intervene before the deadline set by the order
SIP the thirtieth. The aid has already been approved by Congress,
and the DOJ are whose only Congress as the authority
to challenge the administration's efforts to withhold it. Health in
Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior is set to

(02:25:12):
announce causes of autism by September.

Speaker 3 (02:25:14):
Brian Shok reports.

Speaker 24 (02:25:16):
Kennedy has previously vowed to find the cause of growing
rates of autism, calling it an epidemic that dwarfs the
COVID epidemic. The HHS secretary discussed his intentions to reveal
the causes of autism during a Cabinet meeting held by
President Trump on Tuesday. Kennedy has long claimed that environmental
factors or vaccines are likely culprits behind the rising rate

(02:25:38):
of autism diagnoses. I'm Brian Shook.

Speaker 18 (02:25:42):
And SpaceX is celebrating a successful test light of Starship,
the massive uncrewed rocket launch from starbased Texas, Tuesday night.
The latest test came after three street setbacks. You're listening

Speaker 14 (02:25:55):
Health officials have identified the first travel associated human case
of New World screwworm in America.

Speaker 21 (02:26:02):
The case was reported in Maryland. New World screw worms
are parasitic flies that attack and eat healthy tissue from
livestock and sometimes humans. Multiple reports indicate the patient traveled
to the US or Mal Salvador, where there currently is
an outbreak. The case has been examined and verified by
the CDC. I'm Tammy Triheo.

Speaker 14 (02:26:21):
Scientists at the University of Virginia Medical School and cooperation
with their counterparts at the University of Michigan, say they've
developed a treatment for a deadly full body infection known
as sepsis. It involves use of a monoclonal antibody that
showed promising results in initial testing. The treatment could also
be used on other inflammatory conditions, including autoimmune disorders. In addition,

(02:26:45):
it could be used to help repair tissue damage from
loss of blood flow, a condition that can hinder organ transplants.
Health update. I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.

Speaker 26 (02:27:05):
A clock is ticking soft and low.

Speaker 36 (02:27:11):
One hundred years is.

Speaker 8 (02:27:13):
All we know. The earth is crying out in pain
to stop the tearing him of technologies game. One hundred years?
Is that all we have left? Or do we even

(02:27:34):
have that? One hundred years? Doctor Peter Solomon is a scientist,
an educator, an entrepreneur, and an author. He is warning
the next generation about the threats posed by unchecked science
and technology. And he is on our AT and T
line right now. Physics at Columbia University and a distinguished

(02:27:57):
career at United Technologies Research Center before founding five companies.
And he's with us right now. Thank you for being
here and welcome to the program.

Speaker 11 (02:28:08):
It is my pleasure, Thank you for having me.

Speaker 8 (02:28:11):
There is some irony to the fact that seconds before
your call came in, we saw some news that parents
are suing chat GPT over their sixteen year old son suicide,
which they say was hastened by artificial intelligence. Maybe you've
heard about that. It's probably not the only example of that.

(02:28:33):
What's your reaction given the context of what you're talking
about today.

Speaker 11 (02:28:38):
No, I did not hear about that case. But I
didn't hear about a case in which somebody believe that
he had invented a software program that would bring down
the Internet and power some sort of levitation machine. He

(02:28:59):
spent three hundred hours talking to chat gpt and over
twenty one days, and continued to ask the chat program
whether this was real, and the chat program says yes,
And this is one of a number of cases in
which chat GPT has just become a sink effect.

Speaker 8 (02:29:23):
Your book is called one hundred Years to Extinction, The
Tyranny of Technology and the Fight for a better Future.
And you heeded the words of Stephen Hawking. A lot
of people are always interested in what he had to say.
He warned that we were about one hundred years from
being done.

Speaker 11 (02:29:43):
That's correct. And he made specific warnings about AI which
would lead to human extinction. He warned about genetic engineering,
and of course he was worried about the overpopulation, the
climate heating up, as well as nuclear technology, so those

(02:30:13):
and in addition, he was worried about asteroid impacts, so
those things were on his list of worries and predicted
we had one hundred years to distinction unless we colonize
another planet.

Speaker 8 (02:30:33):
So as a scientist, all order doesn't it.

Speaker 11 (02:30:39):
Yeah, So the book that I wrote is much more optimistic.
It's about three young people who make a promise that
is triggered by a tragedy that happens, and they see
the world's chaos, and they know about King's prediction, and

(02:31:01):
they make a promise that they are going to do
at least one thing in their careers to try to
save humanity. And that's what the book is about, three
young people trying to make changes that can avert this
extinction event.

Speaker 8 (02:31:22):
Is there really anything any of us can do.

Speaker 11 (02:31:29):
Individually? Probably not. What we need to do is to
create a movement, to create a worldwide movement to make
Earth great again. And to do that, we've got to
spread information. We've got to spread the word that we

(02:31:54):
are in danger. We have invented these wonderful, wonderful technologies
like fossil fuels that gave us heat and transportation, like
nuclear technology that gave us nuclear medicine and cheap electricity,

(02:32:15):
and like AI and genetic engineering and the internet, all
these wonderful technologies that are making our life better, but
each of them has these horrible, terrible consequences that we
have to control. So we need to make a worldwide
movement of people recognizing this. It's got to be a

(02:32:40):
movement like the nineteen sixties civil rights movement. And it
would be a good idea if we created an Earthcore
that would help spread the word. Have young people go
out in the world and try to create this make
Earth Great Again movement. Going to do it individually, it's

(02:33:01):
got to be worldwide. And what we have to do
is put some controls on AI, put controls on genetic engineering,
and of course put the controls on the technologies that
are heating up the globe.

Speaker 8 (02:33:21):
But doctor Solomon, we can't even agree on whether pineapple
should be on a pizza.

Speaker 11 (02:33:28):
They shouldn't. That's absolutely terrible.

Speaker 8 (02:33:31):
Okay, that's settled. Now we move on to nuclear extinction
and bioengineering and artificial intelligence, and whether an asteroid is
going to hit us, and whether there's global warming or
climate change or whatever you want to call it. Guys, well,
it's kind of depressing the topic, isn't it.

Speaker 30 (02:33:53):
It is?

Speaker 11 (02:33:54):
And you know, I talked to friends about the book,
the novel I'm writing, and by the way, it will
be available on September ninth. It has gone to the
printers at this point and it will be available. But
when I talk to the friends about the book and
I talk about Hawkings hundred years to extinction warning, I

(02:34:18):
would say, the overwhelming response is, Gee, that's optimistic. So
people don't think it's a wild, wild prediction. On the
other hand, humans have always had the ability to deal
with issues. And maybe if we get the word out

(02:34:42):
and people realize that this really is a calamity that
could happen, maybe we can get a worldwide movement. Maybe
we can get people to start thinking of themselves as
members of the Earthling tribe rather than the individual tribes
that they now think of that they belong to.

Speaker 8 (02:35:05):
You there are plenty of divisions Islam versus Judaism versus
Catholicism and Christianity. And then you've got you know, the
first Lady of the United States writing a personal letter
to the President of Russia saying, please, children don't have
to die. And that's largely gone ignored. That's just one example.

(02:35:26):
Give piece a chance. Doctor Peter Solomon's book one hundred
Years to Extinction the tyranny of technology in the fight
for a better future. Is it too late or is
it you know, the end of the world. Have you

(02:35:56):
ever wondered why health insurance costs seem to keep going up?
I was doing some research online and I stumbled upon
some surprising information on Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's
websitemibluedaily dot com slash affordability. I was surprised to learn
that the cost Blue Cross pays for prescription drugs rose
by a staggering fifteen percent last year. Fifteen percent. That's

(02:36:19):
five times higher than inflation. It's no wonder healthcare costs
or a concern for so many of us. That's why
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is working hard to
help all of us better understand the factors driving up
healthcare costs and sharing what they are doing is a
business to address it. Because Blue Cross knows that healthcare
is personal, it needs to work for everyone, and affordability matters.

(02:36:40):
So I encourage you to take a minute and check
OUTMI blue Daily dot com slash affordability and get informed.
You'll be glad you did. It's eye opening information that
can help everyone better understand the complexities of the healthcare
system and its impact on your health insurance costs. I've
got to find Matt Rhodes here Dusty Cellar because I

(02:37:01):
want to book a catering order for a social gathering
at my house or maybe I'll have it here at
Dusty Cellar. I gotta know what my options are, and
thank god, there you are, Matt. What are the catering options?

Speaker 49 (02:37:11):
Thanks Michael. You have lots of options that we can
cater your event at home or office or here at
Dusty's in one of our private rooms serving guests of
twelve and up to fifty.

Speaker 8 (02:37:19):
What menu can I order offer for the event?

Speaker 49 (02:37:22):
As of now, we're offering our catering menu for all
of our catering events for both on and off premise.

Speaker 8 (02:37:26):
Okay, I'm going to book something today. I assume I
can still get my six for sixty six dollars. Wine
clubs and the pastries from the bakery and the full
service at the tap room.

Speaker 49 (02:37:37):
Absolutely all the services are fully functioning. The wine clubs
going strong catering anytime. The taproom is serving inside and
out while we're still having this great summer weather.

Speaker 8 (02:37:45):
Yeah, you gotta join me at Dusty Cellar. It's on
Grand River and Okamus and online at Dustysellar dot com.
Cheers Maatt, Cheers Michael Patrick.
