Speaker 1 (00:06):
Live across the Great Lake State. You're connected to Michigan's
most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's Big
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross, Blue
Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and lancing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I would say I am exactly like a ship carrying
a cargo that will never reach any port. As long
as I'm alive, that ship will always be at sea,
so to speak.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Yes, an arabat never a night in the same place.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.
Speaker 6 (00:54):
Good morning World, Good morning Michigan. A very pleasant Thursday
to you, Michael Patrick Shields radio stations across the State
of Michigan, worldwide at miibig show dot Com. Back in
the saddle again from the end of the road, at
the top of the world, with a tail well calculated
to keep you in suspense. It's Michael Patrick Shields. One
(01:17):
bite Everyone knows the rules. Another one, and in this case,
I've got questions. I've got a question for Tony Cuthbert
and the orchestra. And this comes from the number of
days I think it was actually six work days that
I was away from the microphone, but stretched out over
the part of two weeks and stretched out over Europe
and the United Kingdom and so forth and so on.
(01:40):
Is that credible talk about Michigan State replacing its football coach.
Speaker 7 (01:45):
It very much is Michael Patrick with the losses they
have endured the last few weeks. Jonathan Smith, he's only
what eighteen nineteen games into his tenure.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
But with this new.
Speaker 7 (01:55):
Age of college football, you got to turn a program
around quick. It's not like it used to be where
a coach gets like a five to ten year plan
to make it his own. When you have easy access
to the transfer portal and when you're let's say, a
top twenty revenue program with resources, you got to have
something on a field that's respectable. And unfortunately, at this
point in time, that's not the case. And this is
(02:17):
on the heels. I mean, they're going to Indiana this weekend,
the number three team in the nation and the Hoosiers
favored by twenty six and a half, and then next
weekend you bring in Big Blue to Spartan Stadium. And
if those are two losses back to back like that,
I don't see a path forward.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
I kind of lose track. But how long has he
been in the gig?
Speaker 7 (02:35):
He got his first season was last year?
Speaker 6 (02:38):
That's it? Huh? One season maybe two, that's it? And
that's all mm hmmmm.
Speaker 7 (02:43):
And we've seen firings endless firings, it seems like the
last few weeks, including a guy at Penn State, James Franklin,
who's been there for a long time. He took them
to the playoffs last year. He was a couple of
plays away from playing in the National Championship Game. And
he has a couple bad losses and he's out with
a massive fifty million dollars buyout, which I still hope
I can get someday.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
By the way, So is he a candidate then one
would think he would be.
Speaker 7 (03:08):
I don't know if Michigan State fans have the stomach
for him because the rap on James Franklin, and it's
factual if you look at the numbers, he could never
win the big game I mean, even with that playoff
run last year was against SMU in the first round
and then Boise State, I believe, in the second round.
So yes, they advanced in the playoffs, but it wasn't
against the blue bloods.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Let's say, what about the guy on TV now that
used to be at Ohio State. Was it Florida too?
Speaker 8 (03:34):
Urban Meyer?
Speaker 6 (03:35):
Yeah? What about him?
Speaker 7 (03:37):
I don't, I just don't.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
I don't see it.
Speaker 7 (03:39):
He's he's a little bit older, not that there's anything
wrong with that, but the way he went out at Jacksonville,
Michael Patrick, we got to remember, I mean, it was
an absolute disaster down there when he tried to take
his talents to the NFL and there was accusations about
him hitting players and the team was terrible, and it
kind of just sullied the whole thing.
Speaker 6 (03:57):
What about the Dolphins coach?
Speaker 7 (03:59):
I don't think Miss State wants any of that smoke.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
Okay, what about Bill Bellich?
Speaker 7 (04:08):
Now, he has a game tomorrow night, By the way,
I mean, it's an acc contest North Carolina at Cal
What sounds better than that in the Atlantic Coast Conference,
but it's a conference game.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
What about Nick Saban No.
Speaker 7 (04:21):
No, no, I mean that would be such a beautiful
story for him to come back and wrap it all up.
But I think he's enjoying his cush TV deal and
I do not see him coming back to It's a
change sport. Why would he want to come back to this?
Speaker 6 (04:34):
Hmm Okay, then who.
Speaker 9 (04:39):
If I?
Speaker 6 (04:39):
That's what Tim Stout always says. If not this person,
then who.
Speaker 7 (04:42):
If I was paid the money to be on this
search committee. I would give you an answer, but at
the moment, I haven't got a call, and we must
say as well. I mean, people in ann Arbor are
not too happy with Sharon more. I mean, if they have,
they went to USC was not really a competitive game
last week. They bring in Washington this week and then
Matt Michigan State next week. What happens if those gold bad?
(05:04):
I mean, is Sharon Moore safe?
Speaker 6 (05:07):
I was listening to some audio from the Detroit Tigers
World Series. Oh why I torture myself like this when
they didn't make the World Series. But it was a
game with Jack Morris pitching, of course, the great pitcher,
and Vin Scully was calling the game for Yeah, work television,
we have a little bit of it.
Speaker 10 (05:23):
Ah.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Now, just imagine the irony of what you're about to
hear in the and contrast that with what happened with
the Tigers in their last game, and the irony of it.
Speaker 11 (05:35):
Two out ninth bases, every Tigers three podres two little
ground ball to first. This ought to do it. Bergman
to the bag and the lights go out. On Game
one in San Diego, Jack Morris goes all away, retires
(05:56):
the last six in a row. He was threatened the ropes,
and he had the ability to get off the ropes,
and they couldn't put him away.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
Can you imagine a pitcher pitching an entire game in
the postseason in the modern baseball Not really.
Speaker 7 (06:13):
We did see it a couple of nights ago. I mean,
geez on, what was it Monday night? Blake Snell of
the Dodgers went eight innings and we were like, that's crazy,
nobody does that anymore. And then the next night Yoshinobu
Yamamoto goes out and pitches a complete game for the Dodgers.
Are we gonna ever see any of that again? Probably
not now.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
That of course was Vin Scully's team. But both of
those happened after the Tigers pulled their pitcher right mm hmm.
When he was mowing down patters.
Speaker 7 (06:40):
Trek scoobl was going strong. But it is common at
this point in time in Major League Baseball if a
pitcher is near one hundred pitches, they're gonna be pulled.
And with Terrek scoobl I mean, there's so many rumors
out there if with Trek Scouoble, last year's his last
year under next year's last year under contract with the Tigers,
is their agent involvement saying, hey, if you want a
(07:01):
chance at my client when he becomes a free agent,
you guys better not extend him past one hundred pitches
because we can't have him get injured when he's about
to enter free agency.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
Just throwing that out there, is it conventional wisdom that
if he'd stayed in the game, the Tigers may have won.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
So what happens? The reason they take these pitchers out
is because the get into the numbers these managers do.
And Trek Schooble, third time through the batting lineup his
era balloons, it's a one and then it jumps to
like a four, So you would feel comfortable sending him
back out there. But when you look at the raw data,
it usually does not work out well for a pitcher
(07:36):
late in the game extended pitch count.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Well, aj Hinch has signed an extension earlier. I guess
in the summer. He said, I can't tell you how
proud I am to be the manager of the Tigers.
It's a rewarding place to be. We bought a home here,
we live the majority of the year here, and we
continue to become more and more Michiganders as a family.
And so that's an awfully nice thing to hear. And
you can be mad at him about his decision, but
(08:01):
sounds to me like he's not going anywhere. Michigan State's
coach could be a different story. I don't know. It's
Michael Patrick Shields with you. We'll get more in sports
from Tony Cuththard and the orchestra, plenty in politics too.
As I say, it's pennies from heaven with the constant newsdrip.
We'll have some guests along the way for you too.
Politics is our family business in medias DoD vertus. The
(08:26):
truth is in the middle.
Speaker 9 (08:27):
We take the work seriously, but we don't take ourselves
seriously around here, all right, buckle up back in a
flash on this lovely, lovely day.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
It seems to.
Speaker 9 (08:37):
Know then I lopt you.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
And the world all right with the just want to
to pet you.
Speaker 6 (08:53):
And no win Bonna be.
Speaker 12 (08:59):
Love You're right.

This program exists on the pennies from heaven that come
our way politically, and that's because we aren't an agenda here.
We're observers and sometimes with a lifted eyebrow to what
goes on in the world of politics and media.
Speaker 18 (12:59):
It's not very two.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
The truth is in the middle. It's Michael Patrick Shields.
Just got done with some international travel, and I noticed
that there are airports in the United States who now
are refusing to wear to air. When I say air,
they have it on the TVs that are inside the airport.
A video that Christy Nome wanted shown at the TSA checkpoints.
(13:21):
She is the Homeland Security Secretary, and she made a
video that sort of up said, basically, it's TSA's top
priority to make sure you have the most comfortable, pleasant
and efficient airport experience. However, Democrats in Congress refuse to
fund the federal government and because of that, many of
our operations are impacted, and on and on, and they said,
(13:45):
you know, that's kind of political to be putting that
on in the airport. You know, maybe you want to
sort of apologize that things are going to be slow.
Possibly I didn't notice them to be any more slow
than normal, but they didn't want to air the video
on their in house screens at some of the bigger airports.
And I just find it funny when she says our
(14:07):
priority is to make sure that you have a comfortable
airport experience. I thought the TSA's priority was to secure
the airport. That's what I thought.
Speaker 9 (14:16):
Call me naive, Is that why we're taking our shoes
off and all that stuff, whatever we're doing to get
through these lines.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
Nevertheless, oh yeah, this was a little weird. I don't know.
I was on this flight from Paris to the United
States yesterday and behind me, one one row over, there
were three young guys. I don't know their nationality, but
(14:44):
they were young, and they had kind of beards, and
I don't know, I got a little antsy about them.
And then across the aisle from them was a man
in traditional garb, including some sort of I don't know,
I don't want to call it a hat. He was
wearing something on his head, and he kept kind of
wandering up and down the aisle and he just had
(15:05):
a kind of a funny smile on his face, and
it started to give me the willies. And please understand
that I was once on a flight with a man
who had to be abducted by the air marshals and
taken you away as soon as we landed because he
was kicking the exit door and you know, claiming that
the flight was hijacked. So I pay attention to things
like this, especially on a flight from a place like Paris,
(15:26):
especially days after the so called peace deal was done
in Gaza. One of the guys, the three guys that
was in the seat across the out to me, had
an embroidered shirt and along the you know, the bottom,
I saw the word terror and I thought, huh, I
(15:46):
don't know, maybe don't wear a shirt that says terror
on it when you're getting on an airplane, call me
a nervous nelly. I don't know. And then the guy
with the traditional garb, he suddenly had this big long
coat on, and about an hour and a half into
the flight, he rolled it all up very carefully and
he put it very gently into the overhead bin and
(16:09):
he gently closed the door, you know, the lid, and
I'm like, and then he sat down and he put
his blanket completely over his head, so he looked like
Casper the ghost sitting there. So I'm like, God, damn it.
Now I've got to go tell somebody because I got
to get this off my chest. I will go all
the way to the back of the plane and I
(16:29):
tell the flight attendance and they're just sort of looking
at me like ah, she said, I don't know. They
seem like nice guys, but we'll keep an eye out,
like all right.
Speaker 9 (16:39):
They always tell you if you see something to say something,
and I didn't want to go so far as to say,
you know, are there air marshals on board?
Speaker 6 (16:46):
I don't know, But anyway, that's what happened, and nothing
came of it. But I'm just bringing that up because
of Christinome. Obviously, we all went through the security measures
and whatnot, but I was happy to get off that flight.
Plus the guy next to me kept.
Speaker 9 (17:05):
I don't want to even tell you this because it's
so gross, but he kept basically snorting.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
Through the home. I mean, couldn't get away from the
guy fast enough, and it was an eleven hour flight.
Untold suffering is seldom and it's obviously a first world problem.
But that's that I wanted to be taken away to
my happy place. Where is my happy place? I don't know.
I have lots of happy places. But one of them
(17:32):
opens up tonight for the season, and it is Joe's
Stone Crab. Finally, the mayardeas and the managers are welcoming
everybody back to Miami. And you know it's a seasonal
restaurant because Stone Crabs are seasonal and so in the
summer they have limited hours and limited people and it's
like a holiday. It's like a seasonal holiday when Joe's
(17:54):
Stone Crab opens up, So if you're going to Miami,
you can get the full on dinner treatments Joe's starting today.
Congratulations to Pepe and everybody there at Witt and all
my friends at Joe's on this holiday. Yeah, it's a
holiday al right.
Speaker 9 (18:13):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
By the way, in Milan, I had dinner right near
the Domo in that very fancy like corner that's covered
by a giant sky. It's like a giant atrium like
this scene feels like Las Vegas actually, And behind me
there's a woman I can hear debating with the waiter
about the pizza, what's on it, what's not on it,
(18:33):
very very specific about the food, what's in each dish
that she was going to order with her man who
was with her. And I turned around and I'd got
the look, guy, gotta get a look at what this
woman looks like. She was speaking in English but with
an accent of some sort of Middle Eastern, and sure enough,
she was wearing the full saudy headdress where you could
only see her eyes and the rest of her covered
(18:55):
in black. So then you know, and the guy she's
with it just looks like someone you would see and
you know, Grant Rapids. He's walking around perfectly fine Detroit whatever.
So I said, I got to see how this works. Now.
I've been to Dubai, and I've been to Jerusalem. I've
been to some places Abu Dhabi, but this time, I
(19:16):
don't know, it struck me differently, and so I kind
of hung out at the Ferrari store across the street
and I watched she would lift her veil and put
a fork full of spaghetti under the veil into her mouth,
and the veil back down, and the guy was actually
helping her to make sure the veil didn't fall off.
And for some reason I just felt like, you, son
(19:38):
of a bitch. You just let the woman have a
nice trip to Italy eat spaghetti without having to have
it talked under the veil like some secret. I don't know.
I don't know how to be disrespectful to someone else's culture,
but it sort of was intriguing to see Shukran God
bless you by a condios it's MP.
Speaker 19 (20:00):
Weight loss drugs like ozembic may have an effect on
how our bodies handle alcohol. According to a new study,
GLP one drugs may help you handle your alcohol better
and consume less of it. The study by Virginia Tech
found that those using GLP one drugs so their blood
alcohol levels rise at a slower pace and reported feeling
less intoxicated than those not on weight loss drugs. Those
(20:21):
on the drugs also reported feeling less of a craving
for alcohol both before and after the experiment. A new
report is raising questions about lead levels and some protein
powders NBCs and Thompson.
Speaker 20 (20:33):
Of twenty three powders and Shake's Consumer Reports tested if
found in a single survey more than two thirds of
the products had more lead than what its experts say
is safe to consume in a day.
Speaker 19 (20:45):
The FDA has no oversight over supplements like protein powders,
and there were currently no official standards for lead in
those products. Consumer Reports is asking the FDA to set
strict limits. Health Update umjonathanol hollerin.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Michigan's Big Show starring Michael Patrick.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
Shields, Steve Ford, the son of President Gerald Ford.
Speaker 21 (21:06):
I would see my dad on a daily basis be
on the floor of the House of Representatives battling with Democrats.
On the other side of his best friend was Tip O'Neil,
and they would argue and finally hammer out a compromise,
and then Tip O'Neil would be at our house for dinner.
So that's how civics was supposed to be carried out.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
Just one other bit of civics. When you're traveling internationally
as an American, please remember that you're sort of an ambassador.
And I as I was transferring through Charles de Gaull
Airport in Paris, there were two guys in line with
their girlfriends and they were using the F word and
the S word, and I thought, Wow, maybe you could
just sort of be a little bit dignified at that moment. Yeah, yeah,
(21:51):
that star spangled woo ha. And then the other I
was in one of the convenience stores in the airport
there and this woman American woman starts calling her daughter
over or wherever she was with his sister. I don't
know who she was, you know, like marine, marine, get
over here. And they were looking at sandwiches that were
(22:11):
in the refrigerator and wraps and she said, I think
this means chicken and cheese. And then she says, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I think I'm getting the hang of this French s h.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
I T.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
Like this French stuff. This is their language. You're in France.
I'm getting the hang of this French stuff. I just
want to crawl into the freezer, just like get away
from these people as fists, excuse me with them this.
(22:45):
I wouldn't want this French stuff to put it nicely.
Oh dear, it's Michael Patrick Shields.
Speaker 9 (22:53):
Yeah, real proud to be an American at that moment,
American where he's done. Hey, by the way, was it
jd Vance who said that they should have Lee green
would be the halftime show at the super Bowl and
not Bad Bunny.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
I think you did say that, and I'm pretty sure
Lee Greenwood agreed to do it at least play this song.
I don't know if you could do a twenty minute set.
Speaker 9 (23:20):
I know I'll due respect to Lee Greenwood and he
sang at the Lanton Country Club one time about ten
years ago or more, but I think people would really
be going for the popcorn and the bathroom at halftime
he were there. I think they'll do all right with
Bad Bunny and the world won't end. It's Michael Patrick
Shields with you.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show says he's going to
keep his head down and avoid getting overly political. We
laugh at both sides equally, so we salute him for that.
Speaker 22 (24:02):
INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he
has authorized the CIA to take action in Venezuela.
Speaker 15 (24:09):
I authorized for two reasons.
Speaker 23 (24:11):
Really Number one, they have emptied their prisons into the
United States of America. They came in through the UH Well,
they came in through the border. They came in because
we had an open border policy.
Speaker 22 (24:23):
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump told reporters at
the White House that the second reason was the amount
of drugs coming in from Venezuela. He was asked about
the potential CIA operations just hours after The New York
Times reported that the agency had been given the green
light to conduct lethal operations inside the country. The US
has struck several votes in the Caribbean as part of
its campaign against alleged drug smugglers from Venezuela. US service
(24:47):
members got paychecks this week despite the government shutdown. The
White House released a memo from President Trump directing the
Pentagon to use unspent funds to pay the military. Those
funds will be replenished once the shutdown ends. Speaker Mike
john And warned that the move was a temporary fix.
House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries has accepted a challenge to
a debate from House Speaker Mike Johnson. Michael Cassner reports.
Speaker 24 (25:09):
According to the Hill, Jeffries told a small group of
reporters on Capitol Hill that he looks forward to the debate.
Jeffries previously challenged Johnson to a debate, but the House
Speaker dismissed it, but is now hoping to sit down
with Jeffries. On c SPAN's new program Cease Fire, Jeffrey
says the two leaders are going to try to get
their appearance scheduled on the show. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 22 (25:30):
And Brown University has rejected a deal proposed by the
White House to make policy changes in exchange for federal
funding benefits. The deal would have required the university to
limit international students in otherwise align with the priorities of
the Trump administration. In exchange, the school would have received
priority for federal funding. In a letter to the White House,
browns president said she was concerned that the compact would
(25:50):
restrict academic freedom and undermine the autonomy of Brown's governance.
You were listening to the latest from NBC News Radio.
Open ai is soon going to allow a users to
have eronic conversations with the chant GPT. OpenAI says they're
going to use an age prediction system to screen for
underage users. On Tuesday, CEO Sam Altman claimed, without providing
(26:11):
evidence that the company has mitigated recent problems that we're
faced by users with mental health problems. iHeartMedia CEO Bob
Pittman says that radio brings an authenticity that social media cannot.
Speaker 25 (26:22):
When you look at radio versus social is about three
times the amount of trust with with radio.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
Why with radio's real humans.
Speaker 22 (26:30):
Pittman said. There's more trust in radio because it's real
humans delivering the information. The CEO said, even though AI
usage is increasing rapidly, most want media that's human created.
Pittman added, it's hard to tell what's authentic and what's
not these days, but that's not the case when it
comes to radio and Instagram. Teen accounts are now using
PG thirteen standards as their default setting. Starting next year,
(26:51):
the company will also limit the types of conversations that
teens can have with AI bots. Tech report. I'm Marknefield.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
She's glad now it's over.
Speaker 26 (27:04):
She never should have gotten so involved, at least that's
what she told him. It is paid a front page story.
Speaker 6 (27:20):
We try to bring you the front page stories and
in medias dot Virtu's the truth is in the middle.
We take the work seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously,
and so we take your feedback seriously. And I got
a message from Mike Arnold listening in Charlevoi on WMKT
either AM or FM this morning, and he's got a
(27:40):
good point. He said, you've already cussed twice and then
insulted other cultures who insult your culture Alcoholic, Irish prick,
he said, He's he's right about the You know, I
say that flippantly because some people battle with alcohol, so
you have to be careful what you say. But I
don't mind a tipple now and again. And I am
(28:00):
of Irish descent, and maybe that was kind of not
nice of me to observe what we talked about a
few minutes ago about eating spaghetti underneath. Is it called
a burka? I think anyway, So thank you, Mike. You're
probably right, Mike Arnold listening in Charlevoy. I appreciate the
feedback and appreciate you listening this morning. And I better
(28:21):
watch my language. Get a two bit peppri these days.
It's interesting because a lot of the politicians, even Kamala Harris,
used the MF word on her book Tour. I saw recently.
Then I also saw JD Vance shut down by George
Stephanopolis in an interview because George didn't like what he
was saying, and Kevin Eppling wrote, this needs to be
(28:45):
done more often, just shut them down and not show
up to their rambling press conferences. And so I thought, hmm,
so you're saying that journalists should stop people from answering
the questions they've posed. Isn't that censorship?
Speaker 5 (29:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (29:00):
If you invite someone on, you probably ought to let
them talk. But then again, people have that word platform.
Why do you give the vice president a platform? Everything
is very sensitive these days. I want to thank Trish
Garber though, the owner of WMKTAMNFM in northern Michigan, who
wrote to me and said, your show continues to impress.
(29:22):
It's your pleasant demeanor that carries the day. Very admirable
in today's overly contentious society. So I thank you for that,
and I take that as a responsibility, and so I'll
watch my language and be a little more sensitive by
the way. Laura Halloo and Lansing listening also, she said,
I swear I saw you on the Prices right yesterday. Well,
(29:44):
Laura Halloo you did the show that I took my
mother to a few months ago aired yesterday, and we
were seated in the front row, stage left, and my
mother had a funny hat on and I had an
orange blazer. So if you were watching The Prices right
yesterday and you said MPs with Drew Carey there, well,
it sure was okay, Michael Patrick, shields with you. Lots
(30:06):
to get to so much. This morning, the President of
the United States, Donald Trump, was excited about the peace
deal that he broker, and he went there to meet
with the families and the hostages that were released, and
he went on to Egypt to have a sort of
a peace summit with a number of world leaders and
(30:27):
to sign the documents. And here's what the President said
about the deal that he made.
Speaker 23 (30:31):
This took three thousand years to get to this point,
can you believe it? And it's going to hold up too,
It's going to hold up.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
Alex Treman is the CEO and Jerusalem Bureau Chief of
the Jewish News Syndicate JNS dot org. Alex, is it
holding up?
Speaker 8 (30:53):
Michael Patrick?
Speaker 27 (30:54):
Thanks so much for having me so far.
Speaker 28 (30:57):
It looks like the deal is moving ahead, at least
from Israel's side. You know, we did see the return
of twenty living hostages just a few days ago, to
you know, much relief across all of Israeli society. We
still haven't received that the majority of those that were
taken dead or killed in captivity. That's still a problem.
(31:20):
But the IDEF is in control of fifty percent of
the Gaza Strip and Kamas doesn't pose the threat to
the Israeli home front.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
I thought I read somewhere that within twenty four hours
there were some killings by Gaza and also Gaza refusing
to give up weapons and power. Is that did I
misread that? Was that fake news? What's the skinny there?
Speaker 28 (31:43):
Well, Kamas has actually been going through the Gaza Strip
and murdering Palestinians that they believe are collaborating with Israel
or want to be part of some kind of alternative
governance structure that would work alongside Israel. So they're definitely
trying to maintain dominance in the strip. You know, there's
probably about ten thousand Camos Terris. Many of them were
(32:06):
not Amos Terras in the beginning of the war, but
were recruited over the last two years, and they're running around,
many of them with assault rifles, and that's what they
have to assert their dominance. But you see, as the
Jihadis always do, when they don't have the ability to
kill Jews, they start killing each other.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
God. I remember when George Herbert Walker Bush was president
and the Berlin Wall started to fall. He told his team,
allegedly and the people in his administration and the diplomats
around the world, quote, no spiking the football. You know
this is going to happen and it's going to be done.
What I thought was sort of a dignified manner. Was
(32:48):
there too much focus on who gets the credit, specifically
the American president for this peace deal.
Speaker 28 (32:58):
Well, I mean, I think the President can get as
much credit as everybody wants to give him. I mean,
he deserves a lot of credit. He did something that
the Biden administration refused to do, which has put all
the pressure on Katar, Turkey, Egypt and the Arab countries
to force AMASA to accept the terms of a ceasefire agreement.
But of course the President didn't do it by himself,
(33:20):
and the President has been very gracious. I think of
providing a lot of credit to Prime Minister Natanielle for
putting the force on Kamasa was required both in the
early stages of the war, but even at the end
in terms of approving the operation into Gaza City, which
put a tremendous amount of pressure on Kamas, and even
(33:42):
the attempts to assassinate Kamas leaders in Qatar, which I
know that the President wasn't a big fan of, but
that did really shake up, I think, the balance of
power in the region and certainly pushed the Kataris to
want to get out of this situation as soon as possible.
Of course, in Israel, the media is not going to
(34:04):
congratulate Natannelle for a job well done, and they want
Natanielle out. They want the voters to pick somebody else
as the prime minister, and chances are will be in
an election soon. So they all of a sudden just
throwing hurling all the credit on President Trump and none
onto Israeli Prime Minister Vesterman Nintanelle.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
It sounds suspiciously like the American media and how they
feel about our president here too. Something else, the piece
through strength seems to have worked again in this case.
Is that fair to say?
Speaker 28 (34:39):
Well, I think that now the enemies of Israel recognize
that if they attack, they are going to be demolished.
I mean, you see that across the region. You see
the Hasbala has been degraded something seventy five to eighty percent,
Camas has been degraded approximately ninety percent, the Hutis have
been degraded tremendously as far away as them in and
(35:02):
Iran's nuclear program has been basically eliminated, at least for
the time being. So, you know, I think that that's
the only language that's really understood in the Middle East,
which is that you will not be attacked when they
see that the price of attacking is is that great?
Speaker 6 (35:20):
Those stories coming from some of those hostages are just unimaginable.
That inhumanity involved, absolutely.
Speaker 28 (35:30):
I mean you're hearing about some people that were chained
up in underground tunnels for two years, barely had any
food to eat. It really isn't humane. Of course, it
was Christiana I'm import from CNN who said that probably
some of the hostages were being were being treated better
than gods and civilians.
Speaker 6 (35:50):
Oh my god. Alex Treman, thank you for being available.

When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing our insurance premiums. But whatever, we're only seeing
part of the picture. The truth is our health insurance
costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving of costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(37:23):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts

costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit Miiblue

In BC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says
he has green lit the CIA to take action in Venezuela.
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump was asked by
reporters at the White House if the CIA had been
given the green light to take out Venezuelan and President
Nicholas Maduro. He refused to answer. Weight loss drugs like
ozempic may have an effect on how our bodies handle alcohol.
(38:24):
According to a new study, Jim Roup has more.
Speaker 30 (38:26):
GLP one drugs may help you handle your alcohol better
and consume less of it. The study by Virginia Tech
finds that those using gop one drugs saw their blood
alcohol levels rise at a slower pace and reported feeling
less intoxicated than those not on the weight loss drugs.
Those on the drugs also reported feeling less of a
craving for alcohol, both before and after the experiment. I'm

Speaker 6 (39:16):
Our Tebow is at Walloon Lake. It's Michael Patrick Shields
with you radio stations across the state of Michigan and
worldwide at amibig show dot com. I was in Venezia,
Italy last week. Venice, a spot that Ernest Hemingway enjoyed.
Of course, he enjoyed Walloon Lake long before and Potoski
and man Salona and all those places before he went
(39:38):
to Toricello. There duck hunting and he wrote about it
in some of his books. And the Hemingway Trail goes
to other places we've been to, like Havana, Cuba, Key
West Pamplona, But northern Michigan is where it's at, and
that's where we find our tebow in this autumn. And
how about a fall color report as we hear about
the falling leaves art tebow. You were for decades the
(40:00):
COO of Boying, USA, and of course a member of
the Michigan Travel Commission, and at Farris State University where
we're heard at WBRN, you were trustee for the Fair
State Bulldogs. What about the fall color report right now?
Speaker 27 (40:15):
Well, you know what, Michael, we had a lull. We
had seventy five to eighty degrees one of those weeks
who were traveling and they had really turned On the fourteenth.
I had the privilege of flying on what they call
Mission twenty four where they honor all veterans from World
(40:37):
War Two, Korea and Vietnam to go to Washington, d C.
So yesterday I went at five point thirty in the
morning to Traverse City. Got on a plane guests of
the mission twenty four and it's called mid Michigan Honor Play.
(41:00):
And so when I got home last night at midnight,
after twenty four hours, I didn't see too much color.
But I got to tell you, if the actual color
just started about the eleventh or twelfth. Eleventh is, which
is my fifty first wedding anniversary, normally is the peak
(41:23):
of color, but it's not peak. We're close, but we're
not all the way there.
Speaker 6 (41:30):
So you and the other veterans went to DC for
the day.
Speaker 27 (41:34):
What was that like, Well, it was like a hurricane.
I got to tell you you'd love this. Imagine eighty
percent of the people ninety percent were eighty five years
or older.
Speaker 5 (41:47):
I'm old.
Speaker 27 (41:48):
I'm eighty and putting this in four buses with a sponsor.
In other words, every one of us had somebody to
help us get in the plane, get out of the plane,
a nurse and a medical expert to make sure that
we didn't die. But they were there to put us
(42:12):
on the plane. They had there were ninety veterans, Michael,
and they had ninety people being a support person for us,
plus all the medical staff wheelchairs. But you got to
go to the Washington Monument, but we didn't have time
(42:33):
to go up it. We were at the Vietnam Memorial,
the World War II Memorial. We were supposed to go
to the Army Museum, but it was closed because of
the shutdown of the government. But guah what it was
a phenomenal experience. Even though thirty of the eighty that
(43:00):
or ninety vets can't hear, thirty percent can't see, and
thirty percent couldn't walk, they the staff, all volunteer mission
twenty four itinerary went off without a.
Speaker 6 (43:15):
Hitch Artibo, had you been to the Vietnam Wall in
Washington before yesterday?
Speaker 27 (43:22):
Yes? Once, and.
Speaker 5 (43:25):
It was the week that see.
Speaker 27 (43:28):
The World War Two memorial went up. I had two
very good friends, as you know. One was in the
Battle of the Bulge and the other one was in
the Battle of Iwujima, and they both got shot up
and they were supposed to be headed home to Hawaii
to heal. Instead they were sent to Japan. And if
(43:51):
it hadn't been for the atomic bomb, they was healed
well enough to die in Japan.
Speaker 5 (44:00):
That's history. And guess what.
Speaker 27 (44:04):
There were thousands of teenage kids at all the memorials
and at the Navy Museum or the Marines Museum, whatever
you want to call them. There to learn about the
soldiers from World War Two. As you know, I love
them immensely. And I'm up already because the Joni, by
(44:30):
the way, decided to get pneumonia while I was gone
for the twenty four hours and season in the hospital.
Oh gosh, yeah, just I mean on my way home
from the event, when we got to Traverse City, there
were over seven hundred people with flags and with salutes
and thank you for coming, and you know, thank you
(44:52):
for being in the War of Vietnam. It was very emotional.
And guess what, I guess most eight have these flights.
I didn't know about them at all, and I'm not
sure you did either. But there are people who donate
money and it goes to pay for our airfare, our
(45:15):
hotel rooms and the buses, and it's kind of the
military prepares for war, and of course what happens is
sometimes totally different than what was planned, like landing in France.
But chaos is beautiful. The people volunteer to be your
(45:41):
host and your medical team and your stark pusher I'm
glad you called because I think it's very important for
the Vietnam but also any veterans during that era that
had to go had to serve. And we didn't argue
about it. And all the protests and all the people
(46:01):
that were home saying that it was a bad war,
you killed children, and all that kind of stuff, as
you've heard, was terra There were just people happy to
see that you made it home.
Speaker 6 (46:14):
Well, you know over the decades that I value your service,
but I value your willingness to talk about it too,
whether it's just you and I or over these airwaves.
Veteran Arttbow will continue in just a minute.

his friends, people that were lucky enough like me, and
of course his wife Joni. And we keep her in
our prayers, as you say, she has pneumonia in the
hospital today, so God save her and God bless you.
(49:20):
And as a member of the Travel Commission as you were.
I saw the new budget, which was somewhat celebrated. I
guess that avoided a shutdown in Michigan, included a nine
million dollar cut to the Pure Michigan Tourism advertising campaign.
Put your thoughts on that, well, you.
Speaker 27 (49:38):
Know, each administration, whether it was Republican or Democrat, after
the initial loan, I used it as a loan to tourism.
Let's say it was five million dollars. I don't know
what the number is today, but we were able to
get five times back to taxes and use of the
(50:03):
five million dollars to create more people. And you know
we talked just briefly, but last weekend, the traffic in Potaski, Michigan,
the Traverse City was wall to wall on Friday and Saturday,
even though the leaves haven't totally turned. Well, those people
(50:24):
have to buy gas, they have to buy food, they
have to buy rooms, and the state of Michigan gets
the money back. But what happens, and I think you
know this because you were on the Travel Commission, is
that everybody uses that just as a bullet point saying
we don't need to support tourism. They can handle it themselves.
(50:48):
But we have proven that Pure Michigan. We have proven
over the decades that when you loan us the money
to get the ads, that you get paid fivefold, fourfold,
whatever the number is back. So I've always been whether
it's a Republican or Democrat House and Senate, there's always
(51:10):
been fighting over what to do with the money. But
I think Michael is that the Travel Commission in the
Board have to stay current on the Pure Michigan is
an idea that should last for decades, not for ten years.
Speaker 6 (51:30):
But it definitely transcends and it makes people in the
state feel good about their state too. Artibo, Liz, where's
that mission point resort? Right now? Some of the horses
are starting to come off Mackinawe Island, but you have
till the end of the month to get there, And
Artibo says, go to Pure Michigan.

Frost advisories and freeze warnings in place in the over
night hours, and four northern states are giving way Today.
National Weather Service issued the advisories for regions of Pennsylvania,
West Virginia, Ohio, and New York. After a chilly start
to the day, weather in the nation's capital should warm
up to the mid sixties. In the southeast, the weather
is challenging records this week in Atlanta, Yesterday's high of
(53:10):
eighty six tight a record high for October fifteenth, which
was set ninety years ago. It may be a few
degrees less today. In the Midwest and Great Lakes region,
summer weather is trying to hold on as long as
it can, with temperatures forecast to peak today and Friday
before cooler weather arrives this weekend. Out West, the first
big storm of the season hit California this week, and
(53:32):
the active weather conditions continue, with southern California expecting warmer
and windier days ahead. A slight Santa Ana wind event
is expected today, reaching its peak tomorrow. Los Angeles and
Orange should see highs in the mid seventies today. That's
your national forecast. I'm Michael Kastner, NBC News Radio.
Speaker 22 (54:03):
I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he has authorized the
CIA to take action in Venezuela.
Speaker 15 (54:08):
I authorized for two reasons.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
Really.
Speaker 23 (54:11):
Number one, they have emptied their prisons into the United
States of America. They came in through the UH Well,
they came in through the border. They came in because
we had an open border policy.
Speaker 22 (54:23):
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump told reporters at
the White House that the second reason was the amount
of drugs coming in from Venezuela. He was asked about
the potential CIA operations just hours after The New York
Times reported that the agency had been given the green
light to conduct lethal operations inside the country. The US
has struck several boats in the Caribbean as part of
its campaign against alleged drug smugglers from Venezuela. US service
(54:47):
members got paychecks this week despite the government shutdown. The
White House released a memo from President Trump directing the
Pentagon to use unspent funds to pay the military. Those
funds will be replenished once the shutdown ends. Speaker Mike
Johnson warned that the the move was a temporary fix.
House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries has accepted a challenge to
a debate from House Speaker Mike Johnson, Michael Cassner.
Speaker 24 (55:08):
Reports, according to The Hill, Jeffries told a small group
of reporters on Capitol Hill that he looks forward to
the debate. Jeffries previously challenged Johnson to a debate, but
the House Speaker dismissed it, but is now hoping to
sit down with Jeffries. On c SPAN's new program cease fire.
Jeffrey says the two leaders are going to try to
get their appearance scheduled on the show. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 22 (55:30):
And Brown University has rejected a deal proposed by the
White House to make policy changes in exchange for federal
funding benefits. The deal would have required the university to
limit international students and otherwise align with the priorities of
the Trump administration. In exchange, the school would have received
priority for federal funding. In a letter to the White House,
Browns president said she was concerned that the compact would
(55:50):
restrict academic freedom and undermine the autonomy of Brown's governance.
You were listening to the latest from NBC News Radio.
The federal government shutdown continues, and that means some key
economic reports that would normally be released today will not
come out. We'll be missing weekly jobless claims, retail sales data,
and the inflation indicating producer price Index. This after the
(56:12):
Senate on Wednesday rejected a bill for the ninth time
that would have ended the federal government shut down. It
came after President Trump said he will cut programs favored
by Democrats. With a full list of targeted programs expected
on Friday. President Trump says he might show up at
the Supreme Court next month to hear arguments over his
global tariffs.
Speaker 23 (56:31):
I think it is one of the most important cases
ever brought.
Speaker 22 (56:34):
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday that
the tariffs are a very important tool for US defense
and national security, and said if we don't win that case,
the US will be a troubled financial mess for many
years to come. The Supreme Court will hear arguments on
November fifth over whether Trump has the authority to impose tariffs.
Lower courts have ruled that he overstepped his authority. If
(56:55):
he attends the hearing, he will make history as the
first sitting president to attend a Supreme Court argument. New
car prices are reaching record highs in the US. Matt

ever topped the fifty thousand dollars mark. The record high
is being paid despite automakers and dealers offering new discounts
and incentives. The Automotive research company credits tariffs, evs and
luxury vehicles for the price jump, and.
Speaker 22 (57:27):
United Airlines marked a major milestone when it comes to
inflight internet service. United flight twenty nine to forty from
Newark to Houston made history as the first time a
major US airline has offered Starlink Wi Fi on a
mainline flight for personal devices as well as inflight entertainment screens.
United's Chief customer Officer, David Kinselman says it's all about
raising the bar. He says, whether it's catching a live game,
(57:48):
streaming an award show, or working, United customers won't miss
a beat where they're on board as Starlink equipped flight
consumer and Business News. I'm Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 33 (57:57):
Let's start with baseball.
Speaker 34 (57:58):
Blue Jays got off this show night smacked five homers,
crushed the Mariners thirteen to four in Game three of
the Alcs and Seattle Toronto DH George Springer, who hit
one of the five homers, says, this was a team win.
Speaker 35 (58:14):
My ernie by himmy, you know, to swing it back
in our favor there, and then obviously you know blood
he was, I was red. I just just think as
a team, it was just a guilty good overall game
and it's onto the next.
Speaker 33 (58:25):
Mariners still lead the series two games to one.
Speaker 34 (58:28):
Orioles reportedly interested in interviewing Elbert Poohos for their vacant
managerial job. Thursday night football Steelers and Bengals in Cincinnati
with a couple of forty year olds under center, Aaron
Rodgers for Pittsburgh Joe Flacco for Cincy, the King signed
forward Keegan Murray to a five year extension where one
hundred and forty million bucks. They also signed nine time
(58:50):
All Star guard Russell Westbrook to a one year deal.
Speaker 33 (58:54):
That's sports. I'm Ron Tam Moss.
Speaker 24 (58:57):
Frost advisories and freeze warnings in play in the over
night hours in four northern states are giving way today.
National Weather Service issued the advisories for regions of Pennsylvania,
West Virginia, Ohio, and New York. After a chilly start
to the day, weather in the nation's capital should warm
up to the mid sixties. In the southeast, the weather
is challenging records this week. In Atlanta, yesterday's high of
(59:20):
eighty six tied a record high for October fifteenth, which
was set ninety years ago. It may be a few
degrees less today. In the Midwest and Great Lakes region,
summer weather is trying to hold on as long as
it can, with temperatures forecast to peak today and Friday
before cooler weather arrives this weekend. Out West, the first
big storm of the season hit California this week, and
(59:41):
the active weather conditions continue, with southern California expecting warmer
and windier days ahead. A slight Santa Ana wind event
is expected today, reaching its peak tomorrow. Los Angeles and
Orange should see highs in the mid seventies today. That's
your national forecast. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
Live across the Great Lake State. You're connected to Michigan's
most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's Big
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross, Blue
Shield Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Speaker 2 (01:00:19):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lancing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 11 (01:00:35):
Let us staff or break ourselves to our duty, so
bear ourselves.
Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
Men will still say fish, but.
Speaker 18 (01:00:47):
Well this is what doesn't do to you, which is
not a bad way.
Speaker 15 (01:00:51):
Of trying to operate.
Speaker 5 (01:00:52):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.
Speaker 37 (01:00:55):
Good Morning world.
Speaker 9 (01:00:57):
You see that Tony Cuthbert is very crafty. He used
a little bit of Winston Churchhill there in the open
and a little bit of Prince Charles, because when I
was in London giving the speech for laf Amelia in
front of five hundred people at the Museum of Natural History,
I blended in some of Churchill's speeches, some of his
(01:01:18):
famous passages about broad sunlit uplands and last for a
thousand years and finest hours and all that sort of thing.
And of course Prince Charles is very much in the
news these days, and Prince Harry is too. He's winging
now that he'll never take his family back to the
United Kingdom.
Speaker 6 (01:01:37):
And so there you have it. Michael Patrick Shields with
you through the AT and T microphones. In northern Michigan,
we heard back from Mike Arnold again. Charlie boy. He's
very sweet. He sent a note this time that said,
you truly are moderate. I appreciate that You're pretty cool
(01:01:58):
for a Catholic. We'll take that as a compliment too,
thank you very much. Yeah, okay, Now, I don't want
to be seen as not moderate or not an observer
or biased or anything like that.
Speaker 9 (01:02:12):
But Penny's from evan in the political world these days,
and some of it is coming from the former presidential
candidate and former Attorney General of California, former vice president,
former US Senator Kamala.
Speaker 6 (01:02:24):
Harris, who's on a book tour and there's some talk
that she may run again. And Senator Mark Kelly, I
think from Arizona, was on the talk show with Kristen
Welker at NBC and listen to his answer about maybe
next presidential cycle.
Speaker 38 (01:02:43):
Do you think that Kamala Harris had a strong candidate
in twenty twenty eight candidate?
Speaker 27 (01:02:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:02:48):
Absolutely, Yeah, I mean she was a nominee last time.
I think I think she would be incredibly strong.
Speaker 33 (01:02:57):
Do you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?
Speaker 39 (01:03:00):
Lease?
Speaker 6 (01:03:00):
Please do it, Pennies from Heaven. I have to fill
three hours a morning with this content and it's priceless.
Now what I want to know is does he really
mean that? Or is he gaslighting us again? Can he
really mean that. I mean, she has been saying that
she won a very tight race and that in some cases,
(01:03:22):
she's also been saying that she may be the most
qualified person ever to run for president.
Speaker 33 (01:03:30):
That is decent, but that is a decent resume.
Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
But go ahead there.
Speaker 34 (01:03:36):
Well, some people have actually said I was the most
qualified candidate ever to run for president.
Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
Well, I liked you.
Speaker 34 (01:03:46):
I like this.
Speaker 12 (01:03:47):
Some people say, very nice, but go ahead, I'm just
speaking fact.
Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:03:55):
I don't know who that was who challenged her with that,
But that's a good point because a lot of times
you can get away with some schedule onebs by saying, well,
some people say, and I will say what people who
said that? Who said that?
Speaker 9 (01:04:10):
Because if you look back at some of the people
who run for president, they've been very very qualified to
forty first President George H. W.
Speaker 6 (01:04:18):
Bush in the specific anyway.
Speaker 9 (01:04:22):
Yeah, And there was a sort of a delicious moment
when some protesters got up at one of her events
and started criticizing her.
Speaker 6 (01:04:31):
I think it was for what they considered to be
genocide and Gaza, and she had to utter a defense
that made a lot of people just sit up and smile.
Speaker 12 (01:04:45):
Riminal you know what, I am not President of the
United States.
Speaker 6 (01:04:56):
I am not President of the United States. Like how
just in terms of communication, she always verbalizes the entire
president of the United States. We get it if you
just say president. But I don't know. It's kind of
like a book report where you're trying to fill up
the number of words. I don't know. Meanwhile, there's a
(01:05:19):
lot of criticism. The words of Donald Trump are examined
very closely too, sometimes I think too closely. And what
I mean by that is, you know, they take him
at literally for everything he says, and sometimes it's worthy.
Sometimes I think he's just an older kind of man,
kind of fooling around. And I think he knows too
(01:05:41):
if he says a certain thing that he'll get a
certain response. Here he was talking about whether he's going
to visit the Pearly Gates.
Speaker 8 (01:05:48):
You had talked a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 7 (01:05:50):
You were in an interview and you talked about how
you hope to end the war in Ukraine because it
might help you get into heaven.
Speaker 8 (01:05:56):
How does this help?
Speaker 4 (01:05:58):
Does this help?
Speaker 15 (01:05:59):
I mean.
Speaker 6 (01:06:01):
A little cute.
Speaker 40 (01:06:03):
I don't think there's anything gonna get me in heaven, Okay,
I really I think I'm not maybe heaven bound.
Speaker 9 (01:06:09):
I'm may be in heaven right now as we fly
an Air Force one.
Speaker 40 (01:06:12):
I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven,
but I've made life a lot better for a lot
of people.
Speaker 6 (01:06:19):
So, you know, those who follow scripture closely and I
don't dare tread into this area, understand that you can't
earn heaven. You know, you are offered heaven by the
grace of God. You don't earn your way into heaven.
But that's getting deep into the woods. Most of the time.
I think he's joshing around now. He's got that sort
of old man clotdiness, like when Georgia Maloney was there
(01:06:42):
at the peace agreement. You know, it's a bunch of
men and her, and everybody knows I'm in love with
Georgia Maloney. So that's fine, it's off the table. But
why does he have to say this.
Speaker 23 (01:06:54):
We have a woman, a young woman who's uh, I'm
not allowed to say it because usually it's it's the
end of your political career if you say she's a
beautiful young woman. Now, if you use the word beautiful
in the United States about a woman, that's the end
of your political career.
Speaker 15 (01:07:08):
But I'll take my chances.
Speaker 23 (01:07:11):
Where is she there?
Speaker 15 (01:07:12):
She is?
Speaker 40 (01:07:12):
You don't mind being called beautiful because you are.
Speaker 23 (01:07:15):
Thank you very much for coming.
Speaker 15 (01:07:17):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 23 (01:07:18):
She wanted to be here, and she's incredible and they
really respect her in Italy. She's a very successful, very
successful politician.
Speaker 6 (01:07:28):
I just think I'm not like a woke person or
anything necessarily, but it's not necessary to describe someone successful
who's on the stage with you as beautiful. He didn't
say any of the men were handsome, you know what
I mean? And he put her in a tough spot.
She likes him, obviously, but when you say to her
you don't mind being called beautiful, do you? What are
you supposed to do? Also, it's very a video a visual,
(01:07:52):
but his handshake with her and with all the other
world leaders is more like an arm wrestling match where
they're trying to, you know, get away and he's pulling
an It's like it's an interesting thing.
Speaker 10 (01:08:04):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:08:05):
Also, he said she wanted to be here. I thought
that was sort of unusual too. It made it sound
like she called and said, can I come to the
peace deal? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but anyway,
I don't know how you feel about that, like, but
but you know, he's not the only world leader to
do that too. And then when Angela Merkel was the
(01:08:27):
head of Germany the chancellor, did anyone call her beautiful?
I don't know. And to circle all the way back
to Winston Churchill, was Margaret Thatcher described as beautiful. I
don't know, Ah, bella donna. It's Michael Patrick Shields with
you through the AT and T microphones.
Speaker 37 (01:09:00):

(01:13:39):
please to be here and please to bring David Hall,
the founder and CEO of All Financial back to the
radio stage right here. And you know, we all have dreams.
Some people dream of a house, and of course even
in America, politically speaking, we once had an element called
Save the Dream Act where people could save their home
(01:13:59):
or we had some government help to get a home.
Is it a good time to buy a home or
a better time to sell a home? David Hall? How
about the answer?
Speaker 27 (01:14:10):
Well, and tell you what.
Speaker 39 (01:14:12):
We've seen a shift in the market. We've talked about
this over time, and I think it's really important for
people to realize we have more inventory housing houses for
sale is what we term inventory in our business, than
we've had in years right now, so the power of
the negotiation has shifted back a little bit towards the buyer.
(01:14:36):
So as we know over the last few years home
would come out in the market, there's way more buyers
than there were sellers and it was very tough to
get that home. That is shifting. We expect that to
continue to shift to a more balanced market where buyers
are going to have more choices and in the great
state of Michigan, as we head into what I think
(01:14:58):
is the best time of year for somebody to buy
a home November, December, January February. Why there's less competition
and people that are selling their homes are more serious
about selling their homes because everybody lists in the spring.
You've got your home listed in the November December, January
February time frame. You're serious about selling, and buyers are
(01:15:19):
going to have the power shifted back towards them, which
is great news for folks that are listening, they're thinking
about buying a home.
Speaker 6 (01:15:26):
Sore. Is there such a thing as a motivated seller.
Speaker 39 (01:15:31):
I'll tell you what, there hasn't been over the last
few years because they haven't had to be as motivated
because they could just take the highest and best offer
that they would get. But yes, the motivated seller, they
need to get out of that home. They're expanding their family,
maybe that they just the neighborhood doesn't work for them anymore,
(01:15:53):
their kids want to go to a new school. Those
folks are obviously going to be looking to opportunistically get
out as quickly as they can, and so a buyer
that comes in and positions their offer correctly is going
to end up getting more value right now than they've
gotten in years. So as a real estate agent, which
we team up with a lot of great real estate agents,
(01:16:16):
looking for motivated sellers is key for the buyer to
be able to get into that home. Because what's been
the number one frustration over the last three and a
half years for buyers. I'm making offers on all these
houses and I'm not getting one. That is so frustrating,
and so finding a real estate agent that finds a
motivated sellers really critical.
Speaker 6 (01:16:38):
So everybody knows I have fuzzy math. And when I
worked with Hall Financial, you made it very, very simple.
You answered questions in the crystal clear fashion. And if
you don't want to talk on the phone, you can
do it via text, you can do it via email.
But when we say that the thirty year fixed rates
are now down to six point twenty six percent, what
(01:16:58):
does that mean to a month payment for instance? What
does that mean at a level we can understand well?
Speaker 27 (01:17:05):
And it's a great question.
Speaker 39 (01:17:06):
And buy and large on your average mortgage size in
the state of Michigan, which is right around three hundred thousand,
payments over the last two months that dropped by over
one hundred dollars a month on the average interest rate.
So we had interest rates up around seven. We're getting
closer to six right now, and so the opportunity for
folks to both buy and or refinance because rates have
(01:17:30):
come down has been really great. Not to mention, thirteen
days from now, the Fed with one hundred percent certainty
is going to lower rates. That's been baked into these
rates moving down, and we'll see what the comments are
in thirteen days, but a lot of folks are anticipating that.
We continue to see a nice market for sellers and
for folks refinancing so that those payments continue to go down.
(01:17:54):
And there is a lot of refinancing activity.
Speaker 6 (01:17:57):
Just as you did MPs refinancing at a time like
this too that you're you're up until maybe now your
hands might have been a bit tied on something like
that given the interest rate.
Speaker 39 (01:18:08):
True, there's no question about it, and we've seen a
lot more activity recently. And we really pride ourselves at
Hall Financial on the five star service that we give
to each client. So what you're gonna find is that
in nine business days are less on average, you're going
to go from applying to closing, which folks consider incredibly
fast because the industry averages forty three days on a transaction.
(01:18:32):
So we've really mastered the process in terms of delivering
great client service and we're really proud of that.
Speaker 6 (01:18:38):
What kind of credit score do you need to even call?
Speaker 39 (01:18:42):
Well, you don't need anything more than five eighty to
get in the door, but certainly seven sixty year higher
is going to get you the best term. So make
sure that when you're gonna think about buying a home,
the first thing you do before you go out shopping
check your credit score. See if there's anything you can
do to get a score up so that you're making
sure that you get the very best terms on your mortgage.
(01:19:04):
But again, folks are purchasing and refinancing with scores at
five to eighty or.

Open ai is soon going to allow adult users to
have erotic conversations with the chant GPT. OpenAI says are
going to use an age prediction system to screen for
underage users. On Tuesday, CEO Sam Altman claimed, without providing evidence,
that the company has mitigated recent problems that we're faced
by users with mental health problems. iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman
(01:20:20):
says that radio brings an authenticity that social media cannot.
Speaker 25 (01:20:24):
When you look at radio versus social is about three
times the amount of trust with with radio.
Speaker 6 (01:20:30):
Why with radio's real.
Speaker 22 (01:20:31):
Humans, Pittman said, There's more trust in radio because it's
real humans delivering the information. The CEO said, even though
AI usage is increasing rapidly. Most want media that's human created.
Pittman added, it's hard to tell what's authentic and what's
not these days, but that's not the case when it
comes to radio and Instagram. Teen accounts are now using
PG thirteen standards as their default setting. Starting next year,
(01:20:52):
the company will also limit the types of conversations that
teens can have with AI bots. Tech report on Marknfield.
Speaker 6 (01:21:04):
Very connected we are with our affiliate wmkt AMN FM
in northern Michigan. Larry Olmstead has visited on a number
occasions and expose the world to the pure Michigan travel
options that we have and tourism, whether it's winter, summer, spring,
and fall and we're getting into a leaf peep season
(01:21:25):
right now. But there's big news coming out of Boyne
having to do with the Bay Harbor Resort, which you've
visited recently, Larry, as I understand it. You can read
about it at Forbes dot com where he writes many, many,
many articles and other publications too. But what is the
breaking news at Bay Harbor and the Boin family there?
Speaker 43 (01:21:43):
Well, Michael, first of all, I'm glad to be with
you on the radio because you're a real human being.
I'm sick of talking to all these AI people, so.
Speaker 6 (01:21:51):
Please push too to answer the question.
Speaker 43 (01:21:55):
Yeah, So the hotel there at Bay Harbor, which is
you know, they're sort of luxury property at Michigan was
previously managed by Marriott. Boy Resorts has taken it over
and are just going to run it themselves, which makes
a lot of sense because they run the other properties
there on Highlands and Boyne Mountain, as well as all
(01:22:16):
their other resorts here in New England. I've stated their
properties as well as in Big Sky they have several hotels,
so they're not just in the golf and steaming business.
They're in the hospitality business, and now that's probably their flagship.
Speaker 9 (01:22:31):
Isn't it true that there are people though, who will
only stay at a Marriotte property because of those points
they've accumulated and the rates they get, et cetera.
Speaker 43 (01:22:41):
Yeah, there are more of the points, but I feel
like the industry is getting a little bit away from that.
People have realized, you know, every year their stories on
how many millions or hundreds of millions of dollars worth
of points are out. They're unused, they're hard to use,
they're always devaluing. So I think it's more about, you know,
stay where you want to stay and when you go.
(01:23:02):
You know, most of the marquee golf resorts in the country,
of which you know Bay Harbor is definitely up there
are not a brand affiliated, whether you've got to you know,
Pebble Beach or Pinehurst or Bandon Dunes or Boyd, they're
they're not. They're not Marriott or Hilton.
Speaker 6 (01:23:17):
Properties, not anymore for Bay Harbor. And just in twenty
five seconds, what did you think of Bay Harbor when
you visited a couple of times?
Speaker 43 (01:23:26):
But I mean, it's so beautiful. You're on the Great Lakes,
it might as well be the Ocean, and the great
courses in the world are on the ocean, the Three Nines.
It's probably my favorite of those Boyd Michigan courses.
Speaker 6 (01:23:37):
Larry Olmstead with the breaking news about Bay Harbor independently
managed now by Boying USA. We think of them as
a Michigan company, and they are, but they have properties
all across America.
Speaker 22 (01:24:02):
INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Nathield. President Trump says he
has authorized the CIA to take action in Venezuela.
Speaker 15 (01:24:09):
I authorized for two reasons.
Speaker 23 (01:24:11):
Really number one, they have emptied their prisons into the
United States of America. They came in through the well,
they came in through the border. They came in because
we had an open border policy.
Speaker 22 (01:24:23):
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump told reporters at
the White House that the second reason was the amount
of drugs coming in from Venezuela. He was asked about
the potential CIA operations just hours after The New York
Times reported that the agency had been given the green
light to conduct lethal operations inside the country. The US
has struck several votes in the Caribbean as part of
its campaign against alleged drug smugglers from Venezuela. US service
(01:24:47):
members got paychecks this week despite the government shutdown. The
White House released a memo from President Trump directing the
Pentagon to use unspent funds to pay the military. Those
funds will be replenished once the shutdown ends. Speaker Mike
Jhnsen warned that the move was a temporary fix. House
Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries has accepted a challenge to a
debate from House Speaker Mike Johnson. Michael Kasner reports.
Speaker 24 (01:25:09):
According to the Hill, Jeffries told a small group of
reporters on Capitol Hill that he looks forward to the debate.
Jeffries previously challenged Johnson to a debate, but the House
Speaker dismissed it, but is now hoping to sit down
with Jeffries. On c SPAN's new program Cease Fire, Jeffrey
says the two leaders are going to try to get
their appearance scheduled on the show. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 22 (01:25:30):
And Brown University has rejected a deal proposed by the
White House to make policy changes in exchange for federal
funding benefits. The deal would have required the university to
limit international students in otherwise align with the priorities of
the Trump administration. In exchange, the school would have received

GLP one drugs may help you handle your alcohol better

Speaker 20 (01:26:31):
Of twenty three powders and Shake's Consumer Reports tested if
found in a single survey more than two thirds of
the products had more lead than what its experts say
is safe to consume in a day.
Speaker 19 (01:26:44):
The FDA has no oversight over supplements like protein powders,
and there were currently no official standards for lead in
those products. Consumer Reports is asking the FDA to set
strict limits. Health Update, umjonathanol hollerin.

Kind of Lonely girl, would you like someone new to

Speaker 6 (01:27:20):
You can talk to us through our website, amibig show
dot com and any of the social media outlets for
the program and for me personally, Michael Patrick Shield's Facebook,
x Instagram, do you name it? We're there, yeah, yeah,
all right. A little bit earlier we were talking about
Georgia Maloney, the Italian Prime Minister, which we often do
(01:27:42):
on this program, and how Donald Trump referred to her
as beautiful in the very important meetings there, the peace
meetings in the Middle East. And Pam Bondi, who is
the Attorney General. She came from the state of Florida,
where I think she was in the same rule, was
having some testimony, providing testimony to members of Congress last week.
(01:28:04):
And by the way, did you see the size of
the diamond ring she has on. I don't know if
that came from Metowar jewelers. Oh, and that was a whopper. Anyway,
I found it particularly kind of uncomfortable in the same
way that you know, you know, Donald Trump comes from
an old man kind of era, and Senator John Kennedy
(01:28:27):
from the same kind of I guess old man era too.
But there's Pam Bondi in her role, and just listen
to a couple of the questions and the way that
he put things that I thought was, you know, I'm
not trying to be sexist, but kind of awkward in
front of a woman in front of a group like that,
(01:28:48):
for him to.
Speaker 39 (01:28:49):
Talk like this or no hypothetically, Senator, maybe they didn't
recognize any of the names of the eight sitting United
States Senators.
Speaker 44 (01:28:57):
Oh, hypothetically.
Speaker 45 (01:29:01):
That was a joke.
Speaker 44 (01:29:04):
Or maybe this should have gone to Amazon and buy
some testicles online instead of just saying sure, I'll just
show you the phone records of a city, United States
Senator on the basis of an administrative subpoena. Now do
you have do you have copies of the subpoena applications
(01:29:26):
for these?
Speaker 15 (01:29:27):
Senator?
Speaker 33 (01:29:27):
I can't discuss anything.
Speaker 44 (01:29:29):
Regarding you can't even tell me if you have copies.
Speaker 33 (01:29:31):
I can't discuss any of this.
Speaker 44 (01:29:32):
When are you gonna general When are you gonna be
able to discuss it?
Speaker 46 (01:29:37):
I can't discuss whether there is or is not a
pending investigation.
Speaker 44 (01:29:40):
Standards, if there is a pending investigation. I don't want
this to get swept under the rug, okay, because I
think you're gonna get pushed back from all quarters. I
think the telecommunication companies are going to be all over you,
like a bad rash.
Speaker 6 (01:29:57):
Yeah, I mean, I don't want to reiterate it, But
do we really have to talk about testicles and a
bad rash in the setting like this, Ugh, Michael Patrick
shields with you radio stations across the state of Michigan.
(01:30:18):
Speaking of Florida, a Florida killer known as the Deacon
of Death was executed Tuesday for murdering two women whose
bodies were dumped in a pond. It was all the
way back in nineteen ninety six, and so there have
been a record fourteen executions carried out by the state
of Florida this year. Samuel Lee Smithers, at seventy two,
(01:30:41):
was pronounced dead. He's the Deacon of Death, and I
guessally they have an execution chamber and the curtains were
opened at six o'clock. He was already strapped to the
table with an IV in his arm. You would never
want to see that, would you. Well, he gave an
(01:31:04):
answer when they said do you want a final statement?
And he said, no, sir. And the reason they call
him the Deacon of Death is he was a Baptist
deacon and he met his victims at a Tampa motel
on a street notorious for prostitution. What was his last meal?
For the Deacon of Death. I don't know why I
(01:31:24):
find this intriguing sort of macabre, but his last meal
was peanut butter, three packs of oatmeal, water and two
sports drinks. It kind of sounds like something a Baptist
(01:31:44):
would eat. I think it's not very luxurious. Peanut butter,
three packs of oatmeal, water, and two sports drinks. He
really whooped it up. Sadly. I was in Milan, Italy, Milano,
if you will, on Tuesday night for the party of
a Federico Sengali's wife, Barbara. He's a fashion designer, a
(01:32:08):
good friend of mine. And on that night, an Italian
model who'd been on a dating show was stabbed to
death in Milan by her boyfriend. When she tried to
break up with them. He knifed her twenty times on
the balcony. Pamela Janini was twenty nine years old. Gian
Luka Sankin was fifty two, who apparently committed this heinous murder.
(01:32:30):
They were arguing on the terrace and then came his
violent attack. There are monsters walking among us. I'm not
trying to scare people, but they're there. How about baseball
star if you want to call him that, John Rocker.
He made a bunch of racist and homophobic statements back
(01:32:51):
in nineteen ninety nine to Sports illustrated. He was infamous
for this and he's at it again now. He's talking
about when he gets in an uber, he wants an
American citizen driver is what he calls it. He says,
I don't want to be driven by someone who is
writing a camel twelve months ago. Wow In back in
(01:33:12):
nineteen ninety ninet, he said something about his teammate being
a fat monkey and stereotypes about Asian women, and also
it's too I shouldn't be repeating it, but I guess
this leopard has not changed his spots. Olivia Nutzi is
(01:33:33):
going to write a memoir and Christmas by you can
get it at Christmas time about her emotional affair with
RFK Junior. He's the yeah, isn't that nice? Buy a
book where she's going to tell all about the fact
that they used to sext each other. A digital affair
is what it's called, and both of them admit they
never had a physical affair, but they were sending some
(01:33:55):
sassy messages back and forth, and Olivia is going to
put them all in the book. RFK Junior is married
to Cheryl Hines from Curb Your Enthusiasm. She's thirty two
years old and recently became the West Coast editor for
Vanity Fair, and these salacious messages nearly ruined his marriage
to Cheryl Hines. You might say, well, that's his own fault. Well,
(01:34:19):
I guess it is. But I'm saying, is it going
too far now to write a book about it? And
who would want to buy that book and read these messages?
Of course the media will enjoy it. Again, it's pennies
from heaven. We can have shot and freud at someone
else's misfortune. But this emotional involvement was not physical. But
(01:34:41):
it will be when the book comes out, unless you
get the digital version just in time for Christmas. God,
we're all human. Sensuality is a mysterious thing. Kim Kardashian

I said. I don't want to have to say it again.

we've been sort of falling down the list. Still, I

will hold on to my American passport with great pride.
Thank you for the privilege it provides.

Welcome back to the radio stage. Welcome back to the airwaves.
Speaker 49 (01:40:20):
Thanks for having Michael. How are you doing this morning.
Speaker 6 (01:40:22):
I'm curious to get your thoughts. In Michigan, we avoided
a shutdown of the government, but not so with the
federal government. And I was very curious to see on
the talk show yesterday with the CNN anchor I forget
her name, she's on at night. There she had Alexandria
Ocasio Cortes, the congresswoman, sitting with Senator Bernie Sanders, both Democrats,
(01:40:46):
and it looked to me like aoc was calling the
shots on this shutdown, not Chuck Schumer. Here's what it
sounded like.
Speaker 50 (01:40:54):
What does that need to look like before you would
vote to reopen the government, or the commitment from the
White House and report to no.
Speaker 49 (01:41:00):
I mean, the President was a very honest man and
he said something.
Speaker 6 (01:41:05):
Man, you could take it to the bank.
Speaker 50 (01:41:06):
And you're saying his word is not a bankruptcy. So
what would what do you need to see? What commitments
from I think we.
Speaker 51 (01:41:13):
Need to see ink on paper. I think we need
to see legislation. I think we need to see votes,
and I think we need to see these things pass
on the floor of the House and the Senate and
signed by President Trump. I don't accept IOU's I don't
accept pinky promises. That's not the business that I'm in.
Speaker 50 (01:41:34):
Okay, So you need a signature from President absolute order
to vote to reopen the government. Correct, Okay, Senator Sanders,
Who've got another question, This one's for you.
Speaker 6 (01:41:41):
Doesn't it sound to you like she's calling the shots.
Speaker 49 (01:41:45):
Yeah, that's a certain extent. I mean they're both socialists.
By the way, you call them democrats, but I think
they're socialists. That's beside the point. But truly, it's it's
Chuck Schumer's game right now. Because the House voted to
approve the CR obviously a pass now it's on the
senator's death and they voted eight times so far to
not pass the Continuing Resolution, which all that is is
(01:42:07):
a funding bill that allows the government to stay open
so they can go back to work and put the
appropriation built together to fund the government for an extended
period of time. So AOC definitely is becoming a rising
start in that party. But it's truly Chuck Schumer shutdown
right now. And ironically, in twenty eighteen, Chuck said there's
(01:42:31):
we should not shut down the government over a dispute,
and they're disputing right now some one point five trillion
dollars that they want to add into the appropriations into
the budget. But they can't even get to that until
they get past this shutdown. And I can tell you
the shutdown is now what sixteen days long. It's the
longest whenever was only thirty four days, by the way,
(01:42:53):
and that was in twenty eighteen. But if this continues,
it's going to have real impact on working families and
our our senators Gary Peters, Alyssa Slotkin, they need to
join the Republicans and pass this CR. So far, three
senators have voted with the Republicans to pass it. From
the dem side, we only need five more get us
(01:43:15):
to the sixty vote threshold so we can pass this
that people can get back to work. It's going to
have a big impact in Michigan real soon here.
Speaker 6 (01:43:23):
I was curious about that because it sounds like the
end of the world government shut down and you count
down the days and then it happens, and you know,
life kind of goes on. Still.
Speaker 9 (01:43:32):
There may be there are some how would you know
in other words, that they were there even is a
shutdown going on.
Speaker 49 (01:43:40):
Yeah, speaking largely right now, people haven't been affected unless
you are a federal employee and your next paycheck has
been suspended in military, and so I think they're going
to keep paying the military. But in Michigan, if this
continues passed the month, it's projected to cost about ninety
two million dollars. Like small business loans, they're not going
(01:44:01):
to be given out laws for small businesses to operate.
Speaker 5 (01:44:05):
Some other things.
Speaker 49 (01:44:06):
They project a decline of fifty five hundred and sixty
three million dollars in our accountmy's not going to get
spent per month should this continue because of consumers just
not spending in snapped benefits after a month, those are
going to be delayed or stopped. And there's one and
a half million people in Michigan enrolled in snaps. Social
(01:44:28):
Security checks not directly positive checks they get people still
like eleven thousand people that still get a check from
Social Sciurity. Those are going to be delayed with payments.
There's almost one hundred and ninety thousand recipients of that
in Michigan. They're going to have their benefits cut short
or not receive them at all. It's a big deal,
(01:44:48):
and all because the Democrats want to add one and
a half trillion dollars to our spending, and we don't
think that's the right thing to do. So I would
highly encourage people to call Senator Gary Peters or Alyssa Slocktin.
Then I'm gonna give you their numbers. Peter's number is
two oh two two two four six two two one.
That's his Washington office, and Alyssa Slotson's Washington office is
(01:45:11):
two zero two two two four four eight to two
to two. Call their offices, tell them to fund this thing,
this CR, this clean CR that they've already voted for
thirteen times during the Biden administration, and earlier this year
they all passed it.
Speaker 27 (01:45:26):
Tell them to get on.
Speaker 49 (01:45:27):
Board of the Republicans can get this thing passed so
people can get back to work and people can start
receiving their benefits. Sixty five percent of Americans don't want
their government, the Democrats, to shut it down, and that's
in the New York Times. So it's going to be
a big deal if it continues, especially if you're someone
who receives government payments as government contracts for their federal employees,
(01:45:47):
it's going to.
Speaker 5 (01:45:48):
Have an impact.
Speaker 6 (01:45:50):
Let me just in that in the last thirty seconds
that we have, did you say that Social Security payments
could be delayed starting soon and delayed by how much?
Speaker 49 (01:46:00):
I don't know what the delay is going to be,
but it's the people who's still going to check collect
a physical, hard copy check their payments are going to
be affected. Direct depositive recipients, not so much check recipients.
They're going to be affected. And there's eleven thousand people
in the state or get those checks. So it's a
big deal.
Speaker 6 (01:46:18):
I appreciate you giving us the straight skinny without spin.
That's what Tim Golding does for us. The State director
of Americans for a Prosperity Michigan Google them and get
yourself involved AFP. When it comes to healthcare costs, we
often focus on one thing, our insurance premiums. But what
if we're only seeing part of the picture. The truth
is our health insurance costs reside downstream at the end
(01:46:41):
of the cost equation. But to really understand what's driving
up costs, we need to look upstream to the healthcare
system itself. Upstream, there are costs like the price is
charged by hospitals and doctors, and the cost of prescription drugs,
healthcare administration, and technology. These costs flow downstream directly into
(01:47:01):
your health insurance premium. That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield
the Michigan is advocating for a system wide solution to
address the rising cost of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that

of funny, Michael Patrick. Just as you were departing, the
Red Wings started their season and they had their home opener,
all the excitement celebrating the centennial and the Wings were
eventually blown out in that game and they were boot
off their home ice on the home opener. When's the
last time you saw that? Not a great situation, but
(01:49:58):
ever since then.
Speaker 6 (01:49:59):
Hockey Town.
Speaker 7 (01:50:00):
They've won three in a row, including last night four
to one over the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
Now Florida is missing a lot of their superstars, but
it's good to see the Wings take care of the
Toronto Maple Leafs two games already and then beat the Panthers.
Speaker 6 (01:50:14):
So here we go.
Speaker 7 (01:50:15):

Now the Major League Baseball playoffs, we've determined, at least
in the championship series, that home field advantage means absolutely nothing.
The Blue Jays, they were winners last night in Seattle.
They blew out the Mariners as well, thirteen to four
on that one, and right now Toronto trails that best
(01:50:55):
of seven series two games to one. Game four is
tonight the NLCS zooms, and now we go back to
or we go to Los Angeles. The Brewers couldn't get
a win on their home field, but now they're going
to take on the Dodgers. Los Angeles leads that series
two games to nothing, and it should be something special
tonight as we have back to back Major League Baseball games.
(01:51:16):
Of course, the Lions, we don't watch them this weekend
because they're going to play on Monday night against the
Buccaneers in downtown Detroit. If you do want to watch
football tonight, well we have the Pittsburgh Steelers at the
Cincinnati Bengals. Michigan getting ready for Washington. Michigan State takes
on Indiana this weekend. So much going on that's brought
to you by Dean Transportation.

CIA to take action in Venezuela, and confirming the authorization.
On Wednesday, Trump was asked by reporters at the White
House if the CIA had been given the green light
to take out Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro. He refused to answer.
Weight loss drugs like ozempic may have an effect on
how our bodies handle alcohol. According to a new study,
(01:52:14):
jim roup has.
Speaker 30 (01:52:15):
More glp one drugs may help you handle your alcohol
better and consume less of it. The study by Virginia
Tech finds that those using golp one drugs saw their
blood alcohol levels rise at a slower pace and reported
feeling less intoxicated than those not on the weight loss drugs.
Those on the drugs also reported feeling less of a

craving for alcohol both before and after the experiment. I'm

In the southeast, the weather
is challenging records this week in Atlanta. Yesterday's high of
(01:53:10):
eighty six tied a record high for October fifteenth, which
was set ninety years ago. It may be a few
degrees less today. In the Midwest and Great Lakes region,
summer weather is trying to hold on as long as
it can, with temperatures forecast to peak today and Friday
before cooler weather arrives this weekend. Out West, the first
big storm of the season hit California this week, and
(01:53:32):
the active weather conditions continue, with southern California expecting warmer
and windier days ahead. A slight Santa Ana wind event
is expected today, reaching its peak tomorrow. Los Angeles and
Orange should see highs in the mid seventies today. That's
your national forecast. I'm Michael Kastner, NBC News Radio.
Speaker 22 (01:54:03):
I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he has authorized the
CIA to take action in Venezuela.
Speaker 15 (01:54:08):
I authorized for two reasons. Julie.
Speaker 23 (01:54:11):
Number one, they have emptied their prisons into the United
States of America. They came in through the UH Well,
they came in through the border. They came in because
we had an open border policy.
Speaker 22 (01:54:23):
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump told reporters at
the White House that the second reason was the amount
of drugs coming in from Venezuela. He was asked about
the potential CIA operations just hours after The New York
Times reported that the agency had been given the green
light to conduct lethal operations inside the country. The US
has struck several voats in the Caribbean as part of
(01:54:43):
its campaign against alleged drug smugglers from Venezuela. US service
members got paychecks this week despite the government shutdown. The
White House released a memo from President Trump directing the
Pentagon to use unspent funds to pay the military. Those
funds will be replenished once the shutdown ends. Speaker Mike
Johnson warned the the move was a temporary fix. House
Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries has accepted a challenge to a
(01:55:05):
debate from House Speaker Mike Johnson, Michael Casner reports.
Speaker 24 (01:55:09):
According to The Hill, Jeffries told a small group of
reporters on Capitol Hill that he looks forward to the debate.
Jeffries previously challenged Johnson to a debate, but the House
Speaker dismissed it, but is now hoping to sit down
with Jeffries on c SPAN's new program Cease Fire. Jeffrey
says the two leaders are going to try to get
their appearance scheduled on the show. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 22 (01:55:30):
And Brown University has rejected a deal proposed by the
White House to make policy changes in exchange for federal
funding benefits. The deal would have required the university to
limit international students and otherwise align with the priorities of
the Trump administration. In exchange, the school would have received
priority for federal funding. In a letter to the White House,
Browns president said she was concerned that the compact would
(01:55:50):
restrict academic freedom and undermine the autonomy of Brown's governance.
You're listening to the latest from NBC News Radio. The
federal government shutdown continues, and that means some key economic
reports that would normally be released today will not come out.
We'll be missing weekly jobless claims, retail sales data, and
the inflation indicating producer price Index. This after the Senate
(01:56:12):
on Wednesday rejected a bill for the ninth time that
would have ended the federal government shut down. It came
after President Trump said he will cut programs favored by Democrats.
With a full list of targeted programs expected on Friday.
President Trump says he might show up at the Supreme
Court next month to hear arguments over his global tariffs.
Speaker 23 (01:56:31):
I think is one of the most important cases ever brought.
Speaker 22 (01:56:34):
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday that
the tariffs are a very important tool for US defense
and national security, and said if we don't win that case,
the US will be a troubled financial mess for many
years to come. The Supreme Court will hear arguments on
November fifth over whether Trump has the authority to impose tariffs.
Lower courts have ruled that he overstepped his authority. If
(01:56:55):
he attends the hearing, he will make history as the
first sitting president to attend a Supreme Court argument. New
car prices are reaching record highs in the US. Matt
Mattinson fills US.
Speaker 17 (01:57:04):
In According to Kelly Bluebook, the average American new car
buyer page just under fifty thousand and one hundred dollars
in September, which is the first time the figure has
ever topped the fifty thousand dollars mark. The record high
is being paid despite automakers and dealers offering new discounts
and incentives. The Automotive Research Company credits tariffs, evs and
luxury vehicles for the price jump, and.
Speaker 22 (01:57:27):
United Airlines marked a major milestone when it comes to
inflight internet service. United flight twenty nine to forty from
Newark to Houston made history as the first time a
major US airline has offered Starlink Wi Fi on a
mainline flight for personal devices as well as inflight entertainment screens.
United's chief customer officer, David Kinselman says it's all about
raising the bar. He says, whether it's catching a live game,

our favor there, and then obviously, you know blood he was.
Speaker 8 (01:58:20):
I was right.
Speaker 35 (01:58:20):
I just just could think as a team.
Speaker 6 (01:58:22):
It's just a guilty good overall game.
Speaker 8 (01:58:24):
And it's on to the next time.
Speaker 33 (01:58:25):
Mariners still lead the series two games to one.

Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 6 (02:00:36):
When will be back.
Speaker 49 (02:00:37):
I can't tell just yet.
Speaker 15 (02:00:39):
I just arrived from Paris.
Speaker 23 (02:00:40):
I'm at the villa of this man that I absolutely
must see, and he's not even here yet.
Speaker 6 (02:00:46):
But then who is there?
Speaker 4 (02:00:47):
Just the staff chrise.
Speaker 15 (02:00:50):
So I'll be back just as quickly as I can.
Speaker 33 (02:00:53):
I don't understand why I can't be with you for
a day.
Speaker 24 (02:00:55):
Or two, because it's not practical, Darling, I'm constantly moving around.
Speaker 5 (02:00:59):
Michael Patrick Fields is Alier.
Speaker 8 (02:01:02):
Good morning world.
Speaker 6 (02:01:04):
Yeah, there was some moving around over the last week.
Flew to London and then down to Venice, took the
train to Verona, and from Verona took the train to
Milan and then got on a flight to Paris, connected
there at CDG and came back to the United States.
And while that was all going on, world leaders were
going at a moment's notice to the Middle East to
(02:01:26):
celebrate and sort of ratify. I think it was in
Egypt where they all got together with the President Donald
Trump and the Turkish President. Ertowan came down the runway,
I guess the same time as the Italian Prime Minister
Georgia Maloney. This is while I was in Milan in Italy.
And if you listen to her. You get to hear
her speak in English right here, Georgia Maloney, and there's
(02:01:49):
a translator and she's speaking to Erduwan and the translator
is telling Maloney what Ertowan has to say to her.
And it's a bit of a little surprise.
Speaker 15 (02:02:00):
I'm sure you're coming down from the plane.
Speaker 49 (02:02:10):
Oh you look great.
Speaker 6 (02:02:11):
Oh thank you.
Speaker 47 (02:02:15):
I have to make you stop smoking.
Speaker 6 (02:02:24):
He tells her, you look great, but I have to
get you to quit smoking. I've never seen a video
or a picture of her smoking, but you know he
has apparently, so there little secrets. Her autobiography is coming
out next month too, and needless to say, I've ordered
a copy. Okay, So the Milan Courtina is where the
(02:02:46):
Olympics are going to be. That's coming up, and the
closing ceremonies are going to be in Verona at the
ancient Amphitheater there and then just an hour or so
away by training Milan. There will be lots of events
there as well. And fact, we're going to have an
interview coming up with the general manager of the nh
Collection City Life Hotel, which is going to be the
(02:03:08):
headquarters of the American broadcast team for the Olympics. So
and in a way of pointing it out, I was
the first American journalist to broadcast from the hotel in
advance of the Olympics, Tony Cuthfert. And we always have
these sort of coincidences where we end up in Newsy spots.
Speaker 7 (02:03:25):
And you know who's going to be the lead on
that broadcast. By the way, So you're Michigan's owned Mike Tarico,
So you beat him to it.
Speaker 6 (02:03:32):
All right, Yeah, congratulated it to a former church. You'll
hear all about it in just a few minutes. Maybe
we can talk to him before we get too far
to No, he's too busy. I mean, last time I
saw him was on Mcinae Island, remember, for the Detroit
Regional Chamber Policy Conference.
Speaker 7 (02:03:46):
I saw him on that golf course. He hit a
wayward shot and I was walking by with a fam
and he was standing right there trying to find his ball.
And this was the week after I think one of
the horse races, and he's right up on mcin Island.
I give him credit.
Speaker 6 (02:04:00):
See that the Time magazine put Donald Trump on the cover,
and obviously they must have hated doing that, but it
was such a big news story they had to so
needless to say, they put the worst angle possible from
down below with his hair kind of flying, and he
looks terrible, to be honest, And the word is he
doesn't like it, you know. And he even posted, you know,
(02:04:21):
they wrote a relatively good story about me, but the
picture maybe the worst of all time. They disappeared my hair,
really weird. I never liked taking pictures from underneath angle
and it's a super bad picture. Come to find out,
the Daily Mail says that they did it on purpose.
There's one source at Time magazine who said, yep, it
(02:04:43):
was on purpose and we laughed about it. Isn't that
just awful? And not only that, now you have people
I don't know who. This person is, Scott allan awad
somehow on social media, he says, just saying if everyone
posted it every day and shared it with everyone in
made sure it was on every platform and every algorithm,
(02:05:03):
he probably wouldn't like it. Well that's kind of a
small thing to do, isn't it. That's what we're dealing
with these days, folks. Let's harken back to forty first
president when I was changing planes at Charles Degall Airport.
My gate was forty one, and there was a big
giant forty one, and it reminded me of the forty
(02:05:25):
first president, George Herbert Walker Bush and the times I
was lucky enough to be in the room with him,
and the book that I wrote with Ken Rayner, I
call him mister President. Stories of golf, fishing in life
with my friend George Herbert Walker Bush and Gene Becker,
who was his chief of staff. She came from USA today,
but she was his chief of staff and his post
presidency has been posting some audio speaking of sportscasters. It's
(02:05:49):
Jim Nance here talking about forty one and the times
that he played lots of golf with a Democrat, former
President Bill Clinton. That really happened. Now.
Speaker 52 (02:06:00):
I played seriously through the years, probably one hundred rounds
of golf with him. He said, I've gotten to spend
a lot of time and spend a lot of time
with President Clinton. He's a great guy and we want
to spend some time together socially. So what I'm asking is,
as a favorite, would you be our intermediary, our fly
on the wall. One of the nicest things ever happened
(02:06:22):
in my life. So June twenty eighth and twenty ninth,
two thousand and five. We played two days of golf
and two dinners out and it was.
Speaker 6 (02:06:31):
A fairy tale.
Speaker 52 (02:06:33):
They parted ways, but I said, we need to do
this again. For months, President Bush would call and say,
who should we have for the second get together next summer.
I'd like you to invite someone. President Clinton would really
get a kick out of typical George Bush. What can
I do to make it more comfortable for someone else?
I said, sir, how about Tom Brady? Do you really
(02:06:55):
think Tom Brady would come up here and play golf
with us? I said, sir, let's see President President Clinton.
Speaker 8 (02:07:02):
Yeah, I kind of like her chances.
Speaker 6 (02:07:06):
Of course, the Wolverine quarterback Tom Brady who went on
to win all those Super Bowls. And by the way,
Jim Nantz is coming to Detroit for I understand Tony
Cuthbert for the Lions and Steelers right before Christmas.
Speaker 7 (02:07:19):
I would not be that would work out perfectly forever.
Speaker 6 (02:07:22):
That's what I hear the jw N Grapevine. So we'll
be able to see him because I'll be there too,
and maybe we can go get meat loaf at please.
We were talking about that guy earlier that got executed
at Florida and his last meal was peanut butter and
a an oatmeal packet and an energy drink. I wrote
(02:07:45):
a column recently in the Lancing State Journal about what
would your last meal be? And I gave advice to
where you go in the world to have a delicious
last meal, and it wouldn't be peanut butter and an
energy drink. But Tony Cuthbert is mentioned in this article
for ordering meat loaf at a fish restaurant and Jim
Nantz looking across the table and saying, Tony, Tony, Tony,
(02:08:08):
you know there was a tank of lobsters right behind
you and all sorts of fish. There wasn't a you know,
like a prairie with cows.
Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
No, I know, life fail.
Speaker 6 (02:08:20):
Tomorrow Jeb Bush will get his comments about his late father,
the forty first president. But next we're going back to Milan,
and then we're gonna go visit a real bash that
was held by the fashion designer Federico Sangali just after
Fashion Week in Milan. And I was lucky enough to
be invited to that black tie event?
Speaker 5 (02:08:39):
Was that ever?
Speaker 52 (02:08:39):
Cool?
Speaker 38 (02:08:40):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (02:08:41):
Stay tuned for all events? God Si Apresto and the.
Speaker 43 (02:08:52):
First go to make mets cas we gave mine, don't be.
Speaker 6 (02:08:55):
Mad, hag his bee.

(02:11:44):
at nine am Eastern. The singalong version of Netflix's most
popular film ever first hit theaters in August for a
two day run. It reportedly raked in between eighteen and
twenty million dollars, and Diane Keaton's cause of death has
been revealed. Family members the actress confirmed to People magazine
that the star died from pneumonia. The statement went on

Speaker 14 (02:12:16):
Keeten rose to fame in the nineteen seventies and is

and something's got to give.
Speaker 12 (02:12:26):
That's entertainment. I'm Jack Glencarl.
Speaker 6 (02:12:36):
We continue andiamo through Italy. Michael Patrick Shields with you.
Speaker 9 (02:12:40):
We've reached Milano, and not only have we reached Milano,
rereached NH Collection Milano city Life, which is interesting because
when I talked to Pallo, the guest relations manager at
the front desk, he told me you're meant to say
in English city life, So I thought we'd better check
that out with Ricardo Bambacci. He's the generalmanager of this
beautiful hotel and he's with me right now. PhD, Hello,
(02:13:07):
is it true?
Speaker 15 (02:13:07):
Where?
Speaker 9 (02:13:08):
Why would you have Why would you not say say
chitte vita? Why do you say city life in English
to represent not only this hotel but this area.
Speaker 46 (02:13:17):
City Life is one of the booming and trained the
chic area of Milan. In the last ten years, there
was a lot of you know, construction which redefine they
are obviously like as a luxury, luxury area. In this place,
we have our Rotes which is very nice in terms
(02:13:38):
of architectures, and there are also a lot of new
residential luxury building.
Speaker 9 (02:13:43):
So speaking city life in English is sort of a
stylish way for the Italians to embrace another language. What
do you mean, for instance, if it was in the
United States and we said something in Italian, to name
something like.
Speaker 6 (02:14:00):
It would sound stylish.
Speaker 18 (02:14:03):
Yes, it's city life.
Speaker 46 (02:14:06):
Is you know the name of the area, because they
start building some mall, they start to build some luxury
residential and is the fine a new style of living
here in Milan. And together with the portal of area
city life is that there are a lot of clubs,
(02:14:26):
a lot of pubs or restaurants, a lot of has
said laxity residential, a lot of hotels. So you where
you know the let's say the rich people are moving
to living in in this in this are a lot
of football player, actor, tibu presenter, they live in this area.
We are also very close to the study of Milan.
(02:14:48):
So this already defined the area. Have you met the
prime minister, the Prime minister Italian Prime Minister Georgie Maloney
and Georgia Ronid. No, not yet, but we met some
of the governor of George Maloney, so some minister for
example the for a.
Speaker 18 (02:15:07):
Broad affair you mean from the sports minister. They came
here you.
Speaker 9 (02:15:11):
Mentioned sport, because in a few months you're going to
be consumed and the world will be here for sports.
Speaker 46 (02:15:18):
Right next door, Yes, there will be the Milano Cortina
Olympics Games. Just in the Tory Alliance Audience Tower, there
will be the head quarter of the Comitat Olympicos within
the Italian and the board, the board of the Olympics Games.
And just close to us there will be all the
media center of the world. So the journalist, the TV
(02:15:40):
press that we stay here for three.
Speaker 9 (02:15:42):
Months, how do you prepare a hotel for something like
that happening right in throughout the space.
Speaker 46 (02:15:50):
The hotel is completely sold out. Of course, it's completely
fully booked. We will be in the red zone, so
that we are a lot of checkpoints, so we'll be
also very challenging to access the area. But we already
we are just talking with most of the American TV
(02:16:11):
They will be stay here in our hotel. So regarding
for the beverage, regarding the transportation, regarding you know, all
the activities, but there would be very.
Speaker 18 (02:16:22):
Very challenging and exciting experience.
Speaker 9 (02:16:25):
So you could say that I am the first American
broadcaster to be here in advance of the Olympics at
your hotel at each City Life.
Speaker 46 (02:16:33):
Yes, it would be the lucky one for Tuna Fortuna Fortunato.
Speaker 18 (02:16:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:16:39):
So the wow, that's really neat. And if we were
in this building before it was anh City Life hotel
sitting where we are right now, we would have to
be whispering, wouldn't we.
Speaker 46 (02:16:51):
Yes, before becoming an hotel. This was an old church
named Christo a church and they did the nineteen thirty four.
This church was lively until the end of until nine
nineteen ninety. Afterwards completely abandoned and Definity the consecrated in
(02:17:14):
twenty seventeen and then we started the works renovation which
takes three four years. And in June and last June
twenty two we were very glad to open this great hotel.
Speaker 6 (02:17:31):
You kept touches obviously of the church. Once you know
it was a church, it's easy to see that the pillars,
the columns, and behind the front desk appears to be
the organ.
Speaker 46 (02:17:43):
Yes, because the architect wanted to keep the original you know, meanings,
the original structors. And there was a lot of elements
architecturally speaking, linked.
Speaker 18 (02:17:56):
To the church. So the color which is wide and bronze.
There are this U shape of organs.
Speaker 46 (02:18:06):
Behind on the back of the front office there wall
just on the top of our but in the lobby
this circle shape which represents the sun. There is also
a lighting playing with the sun is in a certain
point reflect to this, to this circular shape.
Speaker 18 (02:18:25):
There was very nice effect in terms of lighting.
Speaker 9 (02:18:30):
Yes, there must be a sort of surprise that this
front area which is accessible to anyone, that's open air.
Speaker 6 (02:18:38):
But it's like being in a church. You've got couches.
It's a gathering space still for fellowship.
Speaker 18 (02:18:44):
Yes, this are for us. This is a location that
we call the church.
Speaker 46 (02:18:50):
It's an area that we organize a lot of events,
lifestyle events for example, catwork, supercar presentation.
Speaker 18 (02:19:00):
We have also some parties with DJ set that we
put just on the top there where the choir would
be yeah yeah, yeah, wow, very nice.
Speaker 46 (02:19:10):
We are the only one in Milana with this kind
of location, even I suppose not only in Italy, in
the Europe, even in the world.
Speaker 9 (02:19:18):
Complemente it's NH collection City Life in Milano. What does

Speaker 6 (02:19:48):
That is Ricardo Banbacchi, our new best friend at NH

Speaker 22 (02:20:01):
Open ai is soon going to allow adult users to
have eronic conversations with the chant GPT. OpenAI says are
going to use an age prediction system to screen for
underage users. On Tuesday, CEO Sam Altman claimed, without providing
evidence that the company has mitigated recent problems that we're
faced by users with mental health problems. iHeartMedia CEO Bob
Pittman says that radio brings an authenticity that social media cannot.
Speaker 25 (02:20:25):
When you look at radio versus social is about three
times to the amount of trust with with radio.
Speaker 6 (02:20:30):
Why with radio's real.
Speaker 22 (02:20:32):
Humans, Pittman said, There's more trust in radio because it's
real humans delivering the information. The CEO said, even though
AI usage is increasing rapidly, most want media that's human created.
Pittman added, it's hard to tell what's authentic and what's
not these days, but that's not the case when it
comes to radio and Instagram. Teen accounts are now using
PG thirteen standards as their default setting. Starting next year,
(02:20:52):
the company will also limit the types of conversations that
teens can have with AI bots. Tech report on Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 9 (02:21:04):
Michael Patrick, Shields Beck and Piazza San Marco in Venice, Vanezia.
I'm glad you're here with me, and I want to
send you to a restaurant if you come here, it's
called Evo, and it's probably four hundred yards from here
as the crow flies through the labyrinth of streets in Venice,
and when you find.
Speaker 6 (02:21:22):
It, you'll be very happy. It's on a canal. Some
people arrive by boat. It's got about thirty seats in there.
And when you see Giovanni, who is the owner, you
recognize him because he'll have the most unusual fanciful glasses
and if you ask him about with the glasses, he'll say,
(02:21:42):
only crazy people wear these glasses.
Speaker 9 (02:21:45):
And I was very touched because this time when I revisited,
he came up to me. The man they called or
so because he's.
Speaker 6 (02:21:54):
The bear, gave me a great bear hug and gave
me a pair of his glasses. I mean, and when
I went around town wearing them.
Speaker 9 (02:22:03):
The next couple days people saw me, they'd stop and say,
I have a friend that has though I know someone who.
Speaker 6 (02:22:09):
Wears those glasses.
Speaker 9 (02:22:10):
Sure enough, Giovanni is a star in Venice, and that's
because a lot of stars come to his.
Speaker 6 (02:22:16):
Restaurant, EVO, people like George Clooney.
Speaker 9 (02:22:19):
During the film Festival this year, Dwayne the Rock Johnson
was there, Naomi Watts, Adam Sandler, the Sultan of BRUNEI
you name it, Leonardo DiCaprio. Elton john has said in
there many times, it's a little tiny place in Venice,
and sometimes it creates a stir, and sometimes you don't even.
Speaker 6 (02:22:38):
Know they are there. That's because Rasheed is the ultimate gentleman.
He's been twenty years serving people and doing so in
a thoughtful way. I thought it was an interesting business lesson.
Speaker 9 (02:22:48):
He said that if a customer asked him to suggest
a wine, he doesn't suggest an expensive wine.
Speaker 6 (02:22:56):
He suggests an inexpensive one. And he says, if they
want us more, they can always go up. But there's
no point in embarrassing someone by suggesting an expensive wine
and having them saying, nah, you know, I don't want
to spend that much. Also, he doesn't let you overorder.
He says, let's get the dinner.
Speaker 9 (02:23:13):
Going and see how you feel, so that you don't
order so much that you walk out of here feeling
full or unable to finish. They are thoughtful, lovely people
who deal with celebrities, and they will treat you like
one at EVO in Venice, and they have my heart forever.
And I appreciate the times that I've been there, and
I know you will too, and you'll be thoughtful today
(02:23:35):
in your business. With the lesson from Rashid and the
bear hug from Giovanni and MPs two at DAIVO in Venice.
Speaker 22 (02:24:03):
NBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he
has authorized the CIA to take action in Venezuela.
Speaker 15 (02:24:09):
I authorized for two reasons, Julie.
Speaker 23 (02:24:12):
Number one, they have emptied their prisons into the United
States of America. They came in through the UH well,
they came in through the border. They came in because
we had an open border policy.
Speaker 22 (02:24:24):
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump told reporters at
the White House that the second reason was the amount
of drugs coming in from Venezuela. He was asked about
the potential CIA operations just hours after The New York
Times reported that the agency had been given the green
light to conduct lethal operations inside the country. The US
has struck several boats in the Caribbean as part of
(02:24:44):
its campaign against alleged drug smugglers from Venezuela. US service
members got paychecks this week despite the government shutdown. The
White House released a memo from President Trump directing the
Pentagon to use unspent funds to pay the military. Those
funds will be replenished once the shutdown ends. Speak Mike
Johnson warned that the move was a temporary fix. House
Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries has accepted a challenge to a
(02:25:06):
debate from House Speaker Mike Johnson, Michael Casner.
Speaker 24 (02:25:09):
Reports, according to The Hill, Jeffries told a small group
of reporters on Capitol Hill that he looks forward to
the debate. Jeffries previously challenged Johnson to a debate, but
the House Speaker dismissed it, but is now hoping to
sit down with Jeffries on c SPAN's new program Cease Fire.
Jeffrey says the two leaders are going to try to
get their appearance scheduled on the show. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 22 (02:25:31):
And Brown University has rejected a deal proposed by the
White House to make policy changes in exchange for federal
funding benefits. The deal would have required the university to
limit international students and otherwise align with the priorities of
the Trump administration. In exchange, the school would have received
priority for federal funding. In a letter to the White House,
browns president said she was concerned that the compact would
(02:25:51):
restrict academic freedom and undermine the autonomy of Brown's governance.
You were listening to the latest from NBC News Radio.
Speaker 19 (02:25:58):
Weight loss drugs like ozeb may have an effect on
how our bodies handle alcohol. According to a new study,
GLP one drugs may help you handle your alcohol better
and consume less of it. The study by Virginia Tech

for alcohol both before and after the experiment. A new
report is raising questions about lead levels and some protein
powders NBCs and Thompson.
Speaker 20 (02:26:32):
Of twenty three powders and Shake's Consumer Reports tested if
found in a single survey, more than two thirds of
the products had more LAD than what its experts say
is safe to consume in a day.
Speaker 19 (02:26:44):
The FDA has no oversight over supplements like protein powders,
and there are currently no official standards for lead in
those products. Consumer Reports is asking the FDA to set
strict limits. Health update. Umjoathanol hollerin.

Speaker 6 (02:36:00):
Have you ever wondered why health insurance costs seem to
keep going up? I was doing some research online and
I stumbled upon some surprising information on Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan's websitemibluedaily dot com slash affordability. I was
surprised to learn that the cost Blue Cross pays for
prescription drugs rose by a staggering fifteen percent last year.
(02:36:21):
Fifteen percent. That's five times higher than inflation. It's no
wonder healthcare costs or a concern for so many of us.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is working
hard to help all of us better understand the factors
driving up healthcare costs and sharing what they are doing
is a business to address it. Because Blue Cross knows
that healthcare is personal, it needs to work for everyone,
(02:36:41):
and affordability matters. So I encourage you to take a
minute and check outmi blue Daily dot com slash affordability
and get informed. You'll be glad you did. It's eye
opening information that can help everyone better understand the complexities
of the healthcare system and its impact on your health

INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump says he
has green lit the CIA to take action in Venezuela.
In confirming the authorization on Wednesday, Trump was asked by
reporters at the White House if the CIA had been
given the green light to take out Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro.
He refused to answer. Weight loss drugs like ozempic may
have an effect on how our bodies handle alcohol. According

Jim Roop and K.
Speaker 22 (02:38:52):
Pop Demon Hunter sing Along returns the theaters for three
days starting on Halloween. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio.
Speaker 4 (02:39:08):
The Falling Leave Drift by the Windows.
Speaker 6 (02:39:15):
Our tebow is at Walloon Lake. It's Michael Patrick Shields
with you radio stations across the state of Michigan and
worldwide at amibig show dot com. I was in Venezia,
Italy last week. Venice a spot that Ernest Hemingway enjoyed.
Of course, he enjoyed Walloon Lake long before.
Speaker 9 (02:39:34):
And Potoski and man Salona and all those places before
he went to Toricello. There duck hunting, and he wrote
about it in some of his books. And the Hemingway
trail goes to other places we've been to, like Havana, Cuba,
Key West Pamplona. But northern Michigan is where it's at,
and that's where we find our tebow in this autumn.
And how about a fall color report as we hear
(02:39:56):
about the falling leaves art Tibo. You were for decades
the coo Oft Bloying USA, and of course a member
of the Michigan Travel Commission and at Farris State University.
Speaker 6 (02:40:06):
Where we're heard at WBRN. You were trustee for the
Fair State Bulldogs. What about the fall color report right now?
Speaker 27 (02:40:14):
Well, you know what, Michael, we had a law. We
had seventy five to eighty degrees one of those weeks
who were traveling, and they had really turned. On the fourteenth,
I had the privilege of flying on what they call
Mission twenty four where they honor all veterans from World
(02:40:37):
War Two, Korea and Vietnam to go to Washington, d C.
So yesterday I went at five point thirty in the
morning to Trevors City, got on a plane guests of
the Mission twenty four and it's called Mid Michigan Honor Play.
(02:41:00):
And so when I got home last night at midnight,
after twenty four hours, I didn't see too much color.
But I got to tell you, the actual color just
started about the eleventh or twelfth. Eleventh is which is
my fifty first wedding anniversary. Normally is the peak of color,
(02:41:22):
but it's not peak. We're close, but we're not all
the way there.
Speaker 6 (02:41:30):
So you and the other veterans went to DC for
the day. What was that like?
Speaker 27 (02:41:35):
Well, it was like a hurricane. I got to tell
you you'd love this. Imagine eighty percent of the people,
ninety percent were eighty five years or older.
Speaker 5 (02:41:47):
I'm old.
Speaker 27 (02:41:47):
I'm eighty and putting this in four buses with a sponsor.
In other words, every one of us had somebody to
help us get in the plane, get out of the plane,
a nurse and a medical expert to make sure that
we didn't die. But they were there to put us
(02:42:11):
on the plane. They had there were ninety veterans, Michael,
and they had ninety people being a support person for us,
plus all the medical staff wheelchairs. But you got to
go to the Washington Monument, but we didn't have time
(02:42:32):
to go up it. We were at the Vietnam Memorial,
the World War II Memorial. We were supposed to go
to the Army Museum, but it was closed because of
the shutdown of the government. But gues what it was
a phenomenal experience. Even though thirty of the eighty vets
(02:42:59):
or ninety can't hear, thirty percent can't see, and thirty
percent couldn't walk. They the staff, all volunteer Mission twenty
four itinerary went off without a hitch.
Speaker 6 (02:43:16):
Artibo had you been to the Vietnam Wall in Washington
before yesterday?
Speaker 27 (02:43:21):
Yes? Once, And.
Speaker 5 (02:43:25):
It was the week that the.
Speaker 27 (02:43:28):
The World War Two memorial went up. I had two
very good friends, as you know. One was in the
Battle of the Bulge and the other one was in
the Battle of Iwujema, and they both got shot up
and they were supposed to be headed home to Hawaii
to heal. Instead they were sent to.
Speaker 15 (02:43:48):
Japan.
Speaker 27 (02:43:50):
And if it hadn't been for the atomic bomb, they
was healed well enough to die in Japan. That's history.
Speaker 5 (02:44:01):
And guess what.
Speaker 27 (02:44:03):
There were thousands of teenage kids at all the memorials
and at the Navy Museum or the Marines Museum, whatever
you want to call them, there to learn about the
soldiers from World War Two. As you know, I love
them immensely. And I'm up already because the Joni, by
(02:44:29):
the way, decided to get pneumonia while I was gone
for the twenty four hours and season in the hospital.
Oh gosh, yeah, just I mean on my way home
from the event, when we got to Traverse City, there
were over seven hundred people with flags and with salutes
and thank you for coming, and you know, thank you
(02:44:52):
for being in the War of Vietnam. It was very
emotional and guess what, I guess most states have these flights.
I didn't know about them at all, and I'm not
sure you did either, But there are people who donate
money and it goes to pay for our airfare, our

hotel rooms, and the buses, and it's kind of the
military prepares for war, and of course what happens is
sometimes totally different than what was planned, like landing in France,
but chaos is beautiful. The people volunteer to be your

host and your medical team and your stark pusher. I'm
glad you called because I think it's very important for
the Vietnam but also any veterans during that era that
had to go had to serve. And we didn't argue
about it. And all the protesters and all the people
(02:46:00):
that were home saying that it was a bad war,
you killed children, and all that kind of stuff as
you've heard, was there. There were just people happy to
see that you made it home.
Speaker 6 (02:46:13):
Well, you know over the decades that I value your service,
but I value your willingness to talk about it too,
whether it's just you and I or over these airwaves.
Veteran art t bow will continue in just a minute.
Speaker 29 (02:46:30):
Our path to a top ten state is only as
strong as our strength of commitment. It's time to compete
to win. When we do better by our kids, invest
in people, accelerate our economy, and get the fundamentals right,
we will feel a powerful win in our sales that

He both served his country in Vietnam, and he served
his state as the COO at Boyne, USA. And he
served his friends people that were lucky enough like me,
and of course his wife Joni, And we keep her
in our prayers as you say. She has pneumonia in
the hospital today, so God save her and God bless you.
(02:49:20):
And as a member of the Travel Commission, as you were,
I saw the new budget, which was somewhat celebrated. I
guess that avoided a shutdown in Michigan, included a nine
million dollar cut to the Pure Michigan Tourism advertising campaign.
Put your thoughts on that.
Speaker 27 (02:49:37):
Well, you know, each administration, whether it was Republican or Democrat.
After the initial loan, I used it as a loan
to tourism. Let's say it was five million dollars. I
don't know what the number is today, but we were
able to get five times back to taxes use of
(02:50:02):
the five million dollars to create more people. And you
know we talked of just briefly, but last weekend, the
traffic in Potaski, Michigan to Traverse City was wall to
wall on Friday and Saturday, even though the leaves haven't
(02:50:22):
totally turned. Well, those people have to buy gas, they
have to buy food, they have to buy rooms, and
the State of Michigan gets the money back. But what happens,
and I think you know this because you were on
the Travel Commission, is that everybody uses that just as
a bullet point saying we don't need to support tourism.
(02:50:45):
They can handle it themselves. But we have proven that
Pure Michigan. We have proven over the decades that when
you loan us the money to get the ads, that
you get paid fivefold for whatever the number is back.
So I've always been whether it's a Republican or Democrat
(02:51:07):
House and Senate, there's always been fighting over what to
do with the money. But I think Michael is that
the Travel Commission in the board have to stay current
on the Pure Michigan is an idea that should last
for decades, not for ten years.
Speaker 6 (02:51:29):
But it definitely transcends and it makes people in the
state feel good about their state too. Artibo, Liz, where's
that mission point resort right now? Some of the horses
that are starting to come off Mackinawe Island, But you
have till the end of the month to get there.
And Artibo says, go to pure Michigan.
