Speaker 1 (00:05):
Live across the Great Lake State. You're connected to Michigan's
most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's Big
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross, Blue
Shield Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields. You know, it's an honor and a privilege
to be on such a legendary radio show with such
a legendary broadcast hosts yourself, my friend.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Michael, Good morning to you.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
You know, I listen to you every single day here.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
And I've always find it amusing, entertaining and very newsworthy.
When I listen to you, well, I'm great and good
morning to you, and congratulationer and being broadcaster at the.
Speaker 6 (00:55):
Air, Michael Patrick Shields is all their.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Good morning, Good morning Michigan, a very pleasant Thursday to you.
It's Michael Patrick Shields. Radio stations across the state of
Michigan and worldwide atmibig show dot com. From the end
of the road at the top of the world with
a tail well calculated to keep you in suspense, we
(01:19):
get your Thursday morning Turkey on the road. One bite,
everyone knows the rules. Another one and this one in
twenty twenty five is Bojo le Nouveau Day. As far
back as the eighteen hundreds, the growers would gather to
celebrate the end of the harvest by toasting the vintage
with some very young wine produced that very year in France,
(01:42):
the early wines. So today it's the harbinger of the holidays,
the Bojo la nouveaux, and we will taste it on
the radio with you at whatever time of day you're listening.
Morning for us, because we can't wait, and Matt Rhoads
from the seller will be here to bring it to us.
Now how he got it, we don't know, but we
(02:05):
know that the race to get the Boujolais nouveau around
the world is something that's very spirited. Le Bojolais nouveaux
a adive. So it comes by hot air balloon and
Rick Shaw and the Concord Jet back in the day
just to get it because everybody wants to taste it,
and the theory is that if it's any good, that
(02:28):
it tells you what that year's vintage will be like.
So we're gonna celebrate that because we like to celebrate
these sorts of things. And Matt Rhodes will be here
with us a little bit later. And Alex Heward, who
is in for Tony Cuthbert, who's on his way to
the Formula One race in Las Vegas, says, you mean
I get up and I produce a radio show and
(02:50):
I get to drink wine. We say yes, way, or
we as the French would say, okay. Now, we do
have other things to get to and we have a
lot of guests for you this morning as well. Tony
Cuthbert has rounded up the unusual suspects, and there's a
lot of politics, as always on this program in medias
DoD vertus. The truth is in the middle when it
(03:13):
comes to that. We are going to speak to Jace Bolger,
who was president now in CEO of the West Michigan
Policy Forum. He was Speaker of the House in Michigan,
and then we're going to speak to the current Speaker
of the House, Matt Hall. The Republican from Richland Township.
He's got something to celebrate today too, and it isn't wine.
It has to do with ethics, accountability, and transparency. Stay
(03:35):
tuned for that also. Donnie Steele, State Representative from Lake Orion, Republican.
Never spoke to Donnie Steele before, will now. As women
in the House are calling on the High School Athletic
Association to uphold fairness and safety in girls' volleyball eligibility,
Stay tuned for that and much more too. We are
(03:56):
in Las Vegas getting set already underway. It is really
the events surrounding the Formula One Grand Prix, the Las
Vegas Grand Prix. If you can't believe it, I might.
I am sure. I will put this on our Michigan's
Big Show Facebook page. But I drove on the track
yesterday in my Chevy Blazer. No believe it or not.
(04:17):
The track is open until the cars go on and
they start racing, So normal traffic goes up and down,
and you got the dasher boards on each side with
all the advertising and the fencing that goes up and
the lights right down the strip in Las Vegas, and
so I realized, holy man, I'm on the track, so
I shouldn't have done this, but I'll confess Mia Maxima culpa.
(04:40):
I got my camera out, held it up and just
like you know, punched it down the track and I
passed two other cars while I was doing it. So
we'll put that on there for you for the fun
of it. But we're gonna be at the F one Arcade,
which is in the Caesars that's opening right now, with
a view of the race course. And also they're going
(05:00):
to have simulators there all the time, So if you
can't get here for the race and you want to
come to Las Vegas and you want to feel what
it's like, you can get in one of those simulators.
And by the way, it's the only place you can
drink and drive because it's a bar and a nightclub
and restaurant and it's in the Forum shops at Caesar's.
We'll talk to the vice president of marketing for that
company F one Arcade, because they're putting them all around
(05:23):
the world. David Hall will be here too from Hall
Financial Financial. It's Christmas time. We got to figure out
how you're going to spend all your money. And guess
what he knows where you've got money that you might
not even know about, so stay tuned for that and
interest rates. We always find that people are interested in
knowing what the rates are going to be and where
they are. I said, where we are. We're at the D.
(05:45):
It's very unusual. If you go to the D Las Vegas,
which is on Fremont Street, which is in the old
like downtown Las Vegas. You might walk down the street
and you might see American Coney Island. You say, oh,
that wait, American Coney Island. And then you look and
you see an Andiamo restaurant. They say Andiamo Joe Viccari.
(06:06):
And then you look and you see Bar Cannon and
you say, oh, they're serving moltson and the bat blue
and there's hockey sticks. Am I in Detroit? Well you
sort of are, because Derek Stevens, who is from Detroit,
has developed the D Las Vegas at six hundred and
seven rooms, twenty luxury suites, et ceterap overlooking the strip.
(06:26):
He also developed Circa, the Big hotel across the street.
So if you want to feel like you're in Detroit
and support Detroit, you can do that at the D.
And probably one of the most interesting things is when
you check in at the front desk, they give you
right from behind the front desk a draft Moulson Canadian
(06:47):
in a cup as you check in a free beer.
I've never been all over the world, I've never seen that.
I would suppose, you know, once in a while at
a high end place in Europe you might get a champagne,
but a beer, come on, not bad. We never let
the birthday of a beautiful person pass without taking note.
(07:09):
We will celebrate them with a beer or champagne as
we always do on this program. Today, who's celebrating today
other than all of us with the Boujolet nouveau, we
are going to be talking about Bo Derek. Do you
remember Bo Derek. She's sixty nine, sixty nine years old today.
(07:30):
She was in the movie Ten with Dudley Moore. That's
when we first came to know her and Tommy Boy
and smothers. And it was interesting because when Bo sham
Beckler was coaching the Wolverines, they surprised him one time
and Bo Derek showed up at practice with her husband John.
Don't get carried away, but that was a funny moment
(07:50):
when Bo met Bo and they couldn't have been more different.
Bo Derek a beautiful actress. Bo Schambckler, you know, a
curmudgeonly coach. But I remember that's really strange. Sean Young
is sixty six too, pet Detective. Oh she was in
that movie with Kevin Costner, No Way Out. That was
(08:10):
a good one. Those two on this Bojo Le Nouveau
day celebrating their birthdays. Got news coming your way, Got
sports coming your way, Politics, lifestyle, entertainment, business. We take
the work seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously. Politics
is our time, family business and medias dot virtus. The
(08:31):
truth is in the middle. La Patasia con Tuti boy.
All are welcome and piece b with all of you
on this Thursday with Michael Patrick Shields through the AT
and T microphones.

pragmatic problem solving, and we'll do it with civility. Each

conversations while being short enough to listen on your commute

Laney Wilson was the big winner at this year CMA Awards.
The country music star was not only the host of
Wednesday Night ceremony in Nashville, but also won top honors
for Entertainer of the Year, as well as for Album
of the Year and Female Vocalists of the Year.
Speaker 12 (11:18):
Another big winner.
Speaker 11 (11:19):
Was Ella Langley, whose iconic song You Look Like You
Love Me featuring Riley Green, won three CMA Awards for
Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Music
Video of the Year. Texas country singer Cody Johnson beat
out Chris Stapleton and Luke Holmes to win Male Vocalists
of the Year Miss Classes. Morgan Wallen is putting his
(11:41):
Spotify award to use. In a video on Instagram, the
singer showed himself ripping the silver caps off each plaque
and drilling holes in them to place them over the
wheels of an ATV. He used zip ties to secure
them as makeshift hubcaps. The plaque celebrate his songs had
surpassed one million in streams on Spotify, including Whiskey Glasses,

I Had Some Help and Last Night's. David Bowie and
Jennifer Connolly's fantasy musical Labyrinth is set to return to

of the musical's fortieth anniversary. Labyrinth will play in theaters

Your brand new day on radio stations across the state
of Michigan is brought to you by Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan. Blue Cross has mission and covered head
to toe, inside and out, ready to help with health
and wellness resources for the body and mind and you
can learn more at BCBSM dot com. It's Michael Patrick
shields through the AT and T microphones. One of the
(13:14):
three men who were acquitted of charges for allegedly planning
to kidnap Governor Whitmer during the pandemic is seeking the
Republican nomination for governor. William Null is his name. He
lives in Barry County in Dalton, forty three years old.
He filed a campaign finance statement of organization this week
(13:35):
with the state. He's applying for a reporting waiver as
he doesn't plan to raise or spend more than one
thousand dollars on his campaign. His treasurer is Eric Monitor,
who was also acquitted of the charges and this publicity
in the news probably more than he would ever pay
(13:57):
for for one thousand bucks. Wants to be governor. The
man who was acquitted of allegedly planning to kidnap. The
governor says he wants to be governor. Hopefully no one
will try to kidnap him. He was acquitted though. You
can't make this up, can you. Lancing School District Superintendent
(14:18):
Ben Schuldener is leaving, going to be the superintendent in Seattle,
going over there to a district with forty nine thousand students.
It's ten thousand in Lansing. So he's going to get
three hundred and sixty five thousand big ones a year
and start February first, and now Lansing will have to
get somebody new. A data center in kl Kaska that's
(14:42):
near Rubber heard on WMKT radio also Watt Cadillac sort
of in that area. There's a data center proposed there
and according to the state Senator Michelle Hoydinga, who met
with the Department of Natural Resources, it will not be
on public land. She says she has assurances public lands
(15:03):
are not going to be sold for the data center development. Well,
they pave paradise and put up a parking lot, as
the song says. Company backing the project says they're in
early discussion phase, so we'll wait to see. Michigan Attorney
General Dana Nenessel and twenty other attorneys general sent a
letter to the Department of Agriculture want clarification on who's
(15:26):
eligible to get SNAP benefits. The letter says that the
USDA wrongly treats groups of immigrants as ineligible, and they
want to make sure they get, you know, they're benefits.
There are people who are granted asylum who come as refugees,
and they say that they're getting blocked. We take care
(15:49):
of them, and how about everybody else too. Suspect wanted
in the shooting member in September at two Fellas Grill
just off the campus of Western Michigan University in Upsilani,
where we're heard on WKZO has been arrested. They found
him in Minnesota. Nineteen year old and alleged Chamberlain arrested
on a twenty five count felony warrant by the police
(16:12):
in Saint Paul. Four people shot in a fifth person
injured by shrapnel. On September twentieth. There's a big fight
at the restaurant and Chamberlain's going to get five charges
of assault with intent to murder and two dozen other
counts and he go away for all day. As they
say lock him up and throw away the book is
what they might try to do. Mel Trotter Ministries, Grand Rapids,
(16:36):
where we're heard on WTKG, has collected almost six thousand
turkeys for Thanksgiving. They had an initial goal to get
five thousand, and they've had their twenty second annual turkey
drop yesterday to collect the donations. Wonder what that means.
Turkey drop not like in WKRP in Cincinnati where they
(16:57):
pushed a turkey out of a helicopter over a shop
mall parking lot. Because that led mister Carlson to say,
as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
Remember and Les Nessman was there reporting it as if
it were the crash of the Hindenburg because the turkey plummeted. Anyway,
we're close to Thanksgiving. Congratulations to Meltrodter Ministries, by the way,
(17:22):
and they say that they need these turkeys this year
because of the long federal shutdown for the snap benefits
that I just mentioned. The first concert in Grand Rapids
at Akrascher Amphitheater and I saw Dick DeVoss posting about
this yesterday. Will be Motown legend lionel Richie Friday May fifteenth,
(17:42):
Brian van Deerark, the lead singer of Verve Pipe, will
be the first artist to take the stage. He's going
to open her up. And then the country drew a
war in treaty, who just did the national anthem at
the NFL game on Monday Night football here in Las
Vegas in fact. And then Lionel Richie. They also performed
at the Thanksgiving day game for the Lions, as I recall,
(18:03):
I think it was Thanksgiving, but they're a husband and
wife team and they're saying that was the best national
anthem ever performed, and we played a little bit of
it on this program. Vander Ark grew up in West Michigan,
says he remembers needing to drive to Kalamazoo or Muskegon
to see a concert. Now, of course it'll happen in
Grand Rapids. Ten of the concerts have been announced in
(18:24):
the new Amphitheater. It's under construction. You know where it is.
It's just south of the US one thirty one s Curve,
so you'll know where to go when the time comes
and you want to see that show. Congratulations to West
Michigan and the investment of the Devas family and those
who know this is a major, major announcement and it'll
(18:44):
be some very cool evenings for people who get to
go to these shows, including you. Entertainment on the radio,
Michael Patrick Shields. You can get us at MII Bigshow
dot com. Streaming, audio and podcasting is available there any
time you want it, and we are happy to bring
(19:04):
it to you, that's for sure. Okay, if you're you
have a grandson or a nephew, or a niece or
a son, or maybe you're listening right now, you're kind
of an information driven person and you're thinking about college, Well,
your future doesn't start after college. It starts the day
you step on campus. Your future at Eastern Michigan University
(19:24):
you learn by doing hands on programs, internships that turn
into job offers, professors who bring the real world straight
into your classroom. So by the time you graduate, you're
not just ready, you're already working. That's the difference. Eastern
grads get hired. Some programs have one hundred percent job
placement one hundred percent. So if you're looking for a

college where the experience leads straight to opportunity, if SOELANI
is the place. Eastern Michigan University schedule a tour today

Speaker 13 (19:59):
The American Cancer Society says lung cancer screening could save
sixty two thousand lives over five years.
Speaker 14 (20:06):
That's what their own study shows.
Speaker 13 (20:07):
It was published Wednesday in the Journal of the American
Medical Association. Screening is fairly simple and is done with
a CT scan, but apparently only eighteen percent of people
eligible to get screened are doing so.
Speaker 14 (20:20):
The ACS says to qualify.
Speaker 13 (20:22):
You must be fifty to eighty years old and have
a history of smoking two packs of cigarettes a day
for twenty years. Well, if you bring a friend for
moral support when getting a flu shot, maybe you won't
want to be that friend one day. Bre Tennis with
that story.
Speaker 15 (20:37):
Getting the shot is one thing. Anticipation the jab then
a nifty band aid. But it turns out watching someone
else get the shot is way worse. Researchers at Western
Sydney University study brain activity and people watching others get
a shot. They found they had a stronger negative reaction
than the people actually getting jabbed.
Speaker 13 (20:55):
Health Update, I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Andrew Aboot has a podcast called The a List podcast
with Andrew A. Bood. Yeah, he's the attorney that you've
heard on this program many times. But he's doing a
fine job as an interviewer and a lot of times
he will label the subjects, you know, becoming Curtis Hotel,
like how did Curtis Hortel get to where he was? Well,
(21:27):
of course that was a very famous political family and
his father was Speaker of the House, and then he
went into legislature and his brother went in the legislature,
and they were talking about the presidency and why Joe
Biden ran for a second term and why nobody primaried him.
And Andrew got into the political weeds with the man
who is now the chair of the Michigan Democratic Party,
(21:47):
Curtis Hotel. You can find his podcast wherever you get
your podcasts. And here's a sample of what it was
like when he put Curtis Hotel to the test. Why
did we run Joe by.
Speaker 16 (22:01):
Like like like I gotta I gotta tie you this,
Like if you were at that level, I mean somebody
should have stepped up, like John McCain, did you know,
Like why didn't anybody step up and say I'm going
to run in the primary, and that to me is like,
you know, of failing that we have to look at
(22:23):
and say, you.
Speaker 17 (22:25):
Know, it's hard, it's it would be hard for me
to disagree with you. I mean, let me say this.
I have enormous monitor of respect for Joe Biden as
a public servant in the work he did over the years.
Speaker 18 (22:34):
I do.
Speaker 17 (22:35):
But I watched my entire political career flash before my
eyes watching that debate. Yeah, and I think that anyone
who was with him five minutes before that must have
known that he wasn't prepared, or that he that he
was in no condition to do it. And you're right,
(23:01):
it's a thinking about the decisions you have to make
as president are even more serious in the decisions you
have to make on a campaign. I mean, and I
do think it was a it was a you never
know how many people knew, but I do say that
it was a huge concern that no one thought, Who's
going to tell him?
Speaker 19 (23:21):
No?
Speaker 17 (23:22):
And I understand it's hard to tell the most powerful
person in the world no, but somebody has to sometimes.
Speaker 16 (23:30):
I get all that, and I get the you know,
the basic thought, but we don't have a don't we
have one? John McCain and the entire Democratic Party that
it's going to buck the system.
Speaker 20 (23:41):
I mean, that's that's.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Andrew Abode at the bude A List podcast. Check out
the rest of it.
Speaker 18 (24:01):
NBC News Radio. I'm Scott Carr.
Speaker 21 (24:03):
President Trump says he signed the bill to release the
Jeffrey Epstein files. The Senate received the bill passed in
the House by a vote of four hundred and twenty
seven to one, and passed it with no vote taken,
immediately passing it on to President Trump for his signature.
It's not clear when the Department of Justice might release
the files to the public. Reports point to President Trump
(24:24):
now signing off on a Russia Ukraine peace plan. Mark
Mayfield has details.
Speaker 22 (24:30):
NBC News says he approved the twenty eight point proposal
earlier this week. A senior Administration official tells the network
that the plan has been in the works for several weeks,
with the top US officials consulting both the Russian envoy
and Ukrainian representatives. The reports and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
Vice President jd Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio
were among those who helped shape the proposal. The news
(24:52):
comes as an American delegation arrived Wednesday in Kiev to
meet with Ukrainian officials.
Speaker 21 (24:57):
The Justice Department is admitting that a full grand j
jury never saw the final indictment against former FBI Director
James Comey, who's been accused of lying during a twenty
twenty hearing about whether he ever authorized leaks to the
press and has pled not guilty. Interim US attorney Lindsay
Halligan took the stand briefly during a key hearing, saying
(25:18):
only two grand jurors reviewed the final indictment. Defense attorneys
saying that's a procedural error, then should bar the prosecution.
Funeral services for former Vice President Dick Cheney are set
for today in the nation's capital. The nation's forty sixth
vice president passed away earlier this month at the age
of eighty four. Expected to speak as former President George W.
Speaker 18 (25:40):
Bush.

Talk of an AI bubble seemed to vanish Wednesday when
AI chip making giant Nvidia reported fifty seven billion dollars
in revenue for the third quarter, a sixty two percent
year over year increase. Scott car NBC News Radio.
Speaker 22 (25:57):
There's been a big victory in court for the parent
company of Facebook and Instagram. Roy O'Neil explains.
Speaker 23 (26:02):
Meta is coming out as the winner in court after
the Federal Trade Commission accused the social media company of
having a monopoly on social networking. A federal judge wrote
that the FTC failed to prove its case, originally started
five years ago during the first Trump administration, after Meta
acquired Instagram and WhatsApp to operate alongside its popular Facebook platform.
(26:25):
The FTC said it was disappointed in the decision and
is considering legal options.

the company is also releasing a coding interface called Google

Live coverage from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. It's Formula
one in the United States. You're listening to Michael Patrick
Shields radio stations across the state of Michigan and worldwide
at amibig show dot com Detroit. A man owns a
place called The d It's a hotel in downtown Las
Vegas and the circa Derek Stevens, and we thank him
(27:30):
for hosting us. And that's our Michigan connection to come
and get our FireKeepers on in Las Vegas. And if
you can't make the race, you can still experience Formula
one thanks to a brand new entertainment venue and it's
at the Forum Shops at Caesar's and Kim Shoot is
here to tell us all about it. She is the
(27:53):
US vice president of marketing for what's called the F
one Arcade Las Vegas. Thank you for being here, congratulations
and welcome to the program.
Speaker 24 (28:03):
Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 25 (28:05):
And this is great.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Twenty one thousand square feet of entertainment because well F
one has a big footprint around the world and for
people who can't be there to experience it that week,
they want to still connect when they get to Las
Vegas on something that exciting and you're going to help
them do that.
Speaker 26 (28:23):
Oh yeah, for sure.
Speaker 25 (28:24):
I mean we have the ultimate way to connect with
the Formula one. We have all of the Formula one
tracks that you can race on.
Speaker 24 (28:32):
You get the full experience.
Speaker 25 (28:33):
It's the same kind of glitz and glam that you
would expect from any Formula One race, but it's every day.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
It's a simulator. Then you you that you climb into
when you come in, right.
Speaker 25 (28:44):
So it is a simulator and it's one of the
It's not just like you're you're sitting in a car
like you would in any sort of arcade. Everything is
like the seat actually moves, and so it feels extremely
immersive and everything was developed to make you actually feel
like you are driving this F one.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Track, so you probably buckle in and then you can
pick whichever track you want, including Las Vegas.
Speaker 25 (29:10):
So we do have Las Vegas available right now, we
don't have the ability to pick the tracks. It's a
random it's the random teams a random track, but that's
something that we're definitely working on, and we have eight
of the tracks, so Las Vegas is our newest one,
which is extremely exciting and is available in Las Vegas Venu.
So if someone is there for the Grand Prix this week,
(29:33):
they can for sure try and get to that Vegas
track and see the strip and do it themselves.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
I guess F one Arcade would be the only place
that you can legally drink and quote unquote drive.
Speaker 27 (29:45):
True, you won't hear me quoting that, but we do
have a full service bar, incredible cocktails.
Speaker 25 (29:56):
All of our cocktails are created from the winner of
Netflix's Drink Masters, and so they're all created by someone
named LP and she is absolutely incredible. They're very interactive,
some of them light on fire and spark and ones
in a car. They're all very insta worthy.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
And so this is an it's essentially kind of like
a nightclub or a day club or a restaurant and
bar built around the theming of Formula one and the
ability to ride. I say ride drive the simulators.
Speaker 25 (30:33):
Absolutely, and we have five different levels too, so it
doesn't matter if you're someone like me who has never
even tried to drive anything like an F one car.
You know, we start from rookie and go all the
way to expert, which on expert you act you have
to actually shift on the steering wheel like in the
real cars. So there's it's really friendly for anyone who's
(30:57):
noviced all the way to complete expert on Formula one.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Have you ever been in a race car other than
the simulator?
Speaker 24 (31:07):
I have not, but it is one of them.
Speaker 25 (31:09):
It's on my bucket list.
Speaker 28 (31:11):
I have to make a call.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
I don't know. I think probably F one Arcades version
is a lot more convenient and probably safer. You are
going to open, as I understand, F one Arcade locations
around the world over the next five years. Are there
others in existence also in addition to the Las Vegas.
Speaker 29 (31:32):
Oh?
Speaker 25 (31:32):
Yeah, So we have five in the United States. So
we have Boston, d c, Denver Vegas, Philadelphia, and then
we're about to open Atlanta early next year, and then
Chicago will be in the summer of next year. And
then we have two in England, one in London, one
in Birmingham, and then we're about to open in Madrid
(31:55):
next year.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
How do you explain the popularity of Formula one racing
because it's a very It's a sort of a Champagne
international crowd, isn't it.
Speaker 25 (32:05):
So it is, yeah, I mean it's I think it's
definitely the people that tend to follow Formula one really
like that glitzclam you know, like that fabulous kind of
thing about Formula one, And I think that's what we've
really taken into account when we've put together these venues
and this experience so that you can really feel that,
(32:26):
and it doesn't see it feels very authentic to the
Formula one.
Speaker 26 (32:28):
Experience you will have.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
I imagine also events at the F one Arcade, not
just individuals coming in, but corporate outings and gatherings and
parties and that sort of thing.
Speaker 10 (32:42):
Oh.
Speaker 25 (32:42):
Absolutely, So we do everything from bachelor, bachelorette parties, corporate events,
team building. It's really fun because people can just jump
in and out. And as I was mentioning earlier, you
don't really have to be even a Formula one fans
to really enjoy it, but it does add and make
it a little bit more exciting.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
F one Arcade, Las Vegas, and it's in the Forum
Shops at Caesar's, which to my memory was sort of
the first notable shopping experience in Las Vegas that set
the tone, didn't it.
Speaker 25 (33:13):
I mean I think so. And just the quality of
everything in the Forum Shops. I don't think we could
have found a better location.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Yeah, you've got there's a Joe's Stone Crab, and of
course Gucci and all the big brands and restaurants and
so forth. And when you start to put all that together, well,
Formula one fits right in.
Speaker 25 (33:34):
It really does. And honestly we you know, the spot
that we have is so great too, because you can
reach it from directly from Las Vegas Boulevard and pull
up directly in the valet area to our doors, so
we're right on the I guess you could call the
front right on Las Vegas Boulevard. So it's a really
great spot for us.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Oh, I know that entrance, I know where that is.
And of course you can easily get lost in the
forum shops and in the Caesar's Complex. If that means that,
I dare say, if you're at F one Arcade, Las Vegas,
you will be just about able to hear those cars
zooming right by during race week.
Speaker 25 (34:10):
Yes, I definitely think that is a fair possibility. You
should be able to hear very loud and clearer.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
So if you're going to any of those cities you
just heard about, or Las Vegas and you want to
experience what it's like to be behind the wheel of
a Formula one car and do so and have a
good time. F one Arcade, Las Vegas, and even in London.
You can all over the country, all over the world,
but this is the Las Vegas Strip and if you
go into the forum shops, the ceiling looks like a
(34:39):
sky and you're in for a very good time. Do
any of the drivers ever show up at F one Arcade?
Speaker 25 (34:46):
So we actually have the official after party this coming
Thursday for the event, and then we also might have
a guest appearance on Tuesday, but I'm not allowed to
say any names quite yet.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
After party. Now you're talking on Thursday, Well, we look
forward to how many would you have to wait a
long time to get in a simulator and do you
pay extra for that or how does that work? Just
so somebody knows when they come.
Speaker 24 (35:13):
So typically they are.
Speaker 25 (35:15):
We encourage reservations just so that you can make sure
that you get your simulator's it is for come for serve.
If they're not all reserved for this weekend, particularly Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday brunch. We have ticketed events, so it's
just a little bit different than it typically would be.
But just for a typical reservation whos go online and
(35:36):
book and then you have your your area with your group.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Do it right there at F one Arcade and you
can be in all those places virtually. Thanks to the
creativity and the dynamic experience you have waiting for us.
And Happy race Week.
Speaker 25 (35:50):
Yeah, Happy race Week, Thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (35:53):

When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(37:22):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts
(37:46):
with shedding light on the entire cost equation, from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit Miiblue

In BC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump has
signed the bill to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. The
Senate received the House passed bill on Wednesday morning and
immediately passed it to the President for its signature. A
new polls shows a significant majority of American voters or
leaning towards electing Democrat candidates in next year's midterms.
Speaker 31 (38:21):
Jim Roop reports the latest Maris poll shows when respondents
were asked which party's candidate they're most likely to vote
for in their congressional district, Democrats had a fourteen point
advantage over Republicans. Findings show both parties received nearly all
of their own affiliated voters support, but some independent voters
who supported President Trump in twenty twenty four appear to
(38:42):
be breaking from GOP congressional candidates. I'm Jim Roop.
Speaker 22 (38:46):
And Dick Cheney will be lane to rest in Washington
this week, with funeral services set for today at the
National Cathedral. A former Vice president died earlier this month
at the age of eighty four. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio,
(39:12):
and we're.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Not We've got some news this morning that will get
you up and get you to the phone, or get
you to the internet, and it certainly won't get you
down that is David Hall, a Hall Financial eight sixty
six Call Hall and call Hall First dot com. He's
a trusted advisor for your home mortgage and when interest
(39:35):
rates fluctuate. David Hall, Well, he's been there. He's got
thousands and thousands, nearly ten thousand by now, five star
reviews from people who went to him, got his advice
and had it happen very easily and quickly. There's a
five minute mortgage review. Five minutes and find out what
your options are eight six to six. Call Hall and
call Hall First dot com. As we speak to you
(39:58):
from the Formula one race in Las Vegas, Nevada, David
Hall is with us, buckled in with his foot on
the gas. Thank you for being here.
Speaker 32 (40:07):
Always good to be with you. Michael Patrick, how is
Vegas this morning?
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Yeah, there was some rain on the track yesterday, but
you know it's really when they shut down the track
for the cars and the lights go on in Las Vegas,
it's very very exciting, and so that's all happening, and
there's a whole circus that goes along. You know, people
travel from all over the world for these races. And
I was driving here yesterday and I was listening to
(40:33):
this press conference with Donald Trump, and so it was
very entertaining. He was there talking about the Federal Reserve
Chair Jerome Powell, and he was talking with Treasury Secretary
Scott Bessant. And here's what the President said about interest
rates and the FED.
Speaker 20 (40:51):
And eggs are way down, mortgage rates are down despite
the FED. I mean, Scott, you got to work in
this guy. He's got some real mental problem. No, here's
something wrong with him.
Speaker 33 (41:02):
He should be fine.
Speaker 20 (41:04):
Guy's grossly incompetent.
Speaker 34 (41:06):
And he should be sued for spending four billion dollars
to build a little building.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
So you get the point. David Hall, I don't know
if you feel that way about the President when it
comes to interest rates, but any reaction without waiting too
far into politics.
Speaker 32 (41:22):
Yeah, it doesn't sound like he's a big fan. It
sounds like he's pretty sure about that. I would say this,
you know, sometimes there's some hyperbole involved, but I think
it's fair at this point to be probably a little
critical of the FED. I don't know if I'd go
as far as that, but I feel like that the
FED over the last two years has been trying to
(41:44):
navigate this inflation monster and I think that there's a
lot growing sentiment that there are other factors now that
are maybe, if not as important, maybe more important as
the inflation piece. And that has been a piece that
has been a key point for the Fed to get
down to two percent. We've seen it, you know, sort
(42:05):
of this between two and three percent range. So if
they had said, hey, our mandate is to get inflation
to two and a half or two and three quarters percent,
would they have maybe lowered three or four times? Would
then housing be more affordable, Would there be more spending
and less job cuts? I mean, I think that there's
an argument to be made that that is the case.
(42:27):
And so I think that whenever you go with a
single mandate the way the Fed has with inflation, there's
going to be some carnage along the way of other
things that maybe don't go as well. So that's where
they're under a lot of scrutiny, specifically Jerome Powell and
Trump let him have it.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Mark Gildersleeve and Ashley have put together some interesting questions
for you from your team there, and one of them is,
you know, these are not new questions in some cases,
but they're adages that are worth addressing. And that is
do we attach wealth creation to home ownership?
Speaker 32 (43:07):
Well, most definitely, and so there's a stat out there
that homeowners have forty times more wealth than renters, and
that's a very general stat, but I think that it
is true that the quicker that you can get in
on home ownership in your lifetime, whether it be you know,
when you're twenty six years old or thirty one years old,
(43:28):
or at some younger stage of adult life, getting in
on home ownership and starting that wealth building process is
extremely powerful. And there's a lot of reasons for that,
but one of them that I would just point out
is that if on average, your home is going to
go up let's call it six percent a year, and
the first two hundred and fifty thousand dollars of the
(43:49):
games on that home are tax free, that is an
incredibly powerful vehicle for you to build wealth. If you
buy a three hundred thousand dollars house, it goes up
on fifteen thousand dollars per year, and you end up
cashing in on that tax free when you do the
mass on that, that is an incredible opportunity. Over let's
(44:10):
call it between ages thirty and fifty five, We'll just
say where you can build wealth in a way that
doesn't involve you going to your day job. So I
think that a lot of people miss on that. I
don't know that there's enough education surrounding that. Certainly, I'm
a big advocate for people to rent when it is appropriate,
(44:31):
but for the most part, folks should be looking at
home ownership, even at levels like we're at today, where
people may think I'm going to wait a while, that's
usually not a great idea. If you look at the
analytics and the statistics.
Speaker 4 (44:45):
What percentage David Hall eight sixty six, Call Hall and
call Hall first dot com. Do you need to have
as a down payment?
Speaker 32 (44:54):
Well the million dollar question, and in general terms, we
like to see folk that have three percent down at
a minimum. Now there are one percent down programs, there
are some other programs out there, but I like people
to be in good shape going into purchasing a home.
The national average is eleven percent down. The national average
(45:15):
for a first time home buyer is seven percent down.
But certainly three percent will get you in without a problem.
And I think that that's one of the biggest things
that's out there that is a myth is people think
you need to save a lot more money than you
actually do. In general terms, for a first time home buyer,
if you have ten thousand dollars saved, you should be
(45:36):
buying a house according to the data and the analytics.
Speaker 4 (45:41):
Just forty five seconds eight six to six call Hall.
People have money in their own home right now that
they can quickly access either as a loan or just
to have the money for whatever they want to do
with it.
Speaker 35 (45:53):
Right Yeah.
Speaker 32 (45:54):
I mean over the last five or six years, people
have seen their value you grow by fifty thousand dollars plus.
That is their money if they want to access it,
especially with the holidays coming up. A home equity line
is a great idea because you only pay.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
On what you owe.
Speaker 32 (46:11):
You should look into it, especially if the bills are
starting to creep up.

Thursday Night football, Taxans take on the Bills in Houston.
Texans quarterbacks DJ Stroud will miss his third straight game
due to a concussion. Davis Mills gets the start, talks
on leading the Houston offense.
Speaker 39 (58:08):
The main goal each week, and what it has been
is just going out there and playing efficient football, executing
at a really high level, and trying to find a
way to win the game. And we've been successful about
the past for two weeks and we're trying to keep
it rolling in this third week.
Speaker 38 (58:21):
Brown's quarterback Shador Sanders will make his first NFL start

In the Northeast. Cloudy skies across New England. In the
Mid Atlantic, with scattered lightshowers. From Boston to New York,
high stop out in the upper forties. Clouds are moving
out in the Mid Atlantic States from Philly to d
c with temperatures hitting the mid fifties. In the Southeast,
sunshine across the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida, temes top out
in the low eighties. A storm is moving into the
Deep South, bringing rain from eastern Texas through Louisiana and Mississippi.
(59:18):
Cold and blustery in the Midwest, with snowshowers around the
Great Lakes, especially in Michigan and northern Ohio. Further west,
partly cloudy and cold, with highs in the upper twenties
north to the low forties. South sunny throughout the Plain States,
but the northern plains are main cold, with temperatures in
the upper thirties. The central and southern plains warm into
the mid sixties. Parts of the desert Southwest could see
some rain showers as the storm system moves out of
(59:40):
the region and leave sunshine behind highs mainly in the sixties.
Another storm system is moving into central and southern California
with rain and temperatures in the upper fifties. And in
the Pacific Northwest, there's plenty of rain from Seattle to Portland.
That's your national forecast. I'm Tammy Trheo.

Speaker 18 (01:00:42):
Hey, how you doing, sir.
Speaker 27 (01:00:43):
I'd just like to thank you for such an informative show.
Speaker 5 (01:00:46):
If the rest of the.
Speaker 27 (01:00:47):

Speaker 45 (01:00:52):
Well first, Ambassador Shields is nice.
Speaker 5 (01:00:54):
To see in your show.
Speaker 45 (01:00:56):
We reprove you in lots of different ways.
Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Ambassador certainly is a proper had for a few Michael Patrick.
Speaker 45 (01:01:02):
So good morning.
Speaker 35 (01:01:03):
It's great to be on your show.
Speaker 20 (01:01:04):

Speaker 18 (01:01:05):
Shields is on their Good Morning World.
Speaker 4 (01:01:09):
Good Morning Michigan. A very pleasant Thursday to you. Le
Bojo Les Nouveau Erive. It's here and we're going to
taste it first before anybody. You know, the harbinger of
the holidays. Matt Rhodes will bring it from Dusty Cellar.
It's a tradition on this program, and it was Eddie
Jonah and the Merchant of Veno with J. P. McCarthy
(01:01:30):
more than twenty years ago who used to carry on
this tradition as well. Wine in the morning. Well, why not?
It's MPs with you through the AT and T microphones.
Jordan Hudson is twenty four years old and she made
her North Carolina cheerleading debut on the weekend, and her
boyfriend was there, seventy three year old Bill Belichick on
(01:01:51):
the sidelines supporting her. Now, it's one thing, is it
not for a twenty four year old to date a
seventy three year old happens to be one of the
major college football coaches who won a bunch of Super
Bowls coaching the New England Patriots. But isn't it jarring?
May I say? For a seventy three year old to
(01:02:13):
be cheering on his lady friend, the twenty four year
old cheerleader. It just feels strange, doesn't it. Who are
we to judge though? Just picture it though?
Speaker 18 (01:02:28):
Why.
Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
Megan Marko has her new holiday special coming out on Netflix.
I bet you can't wait to see it. She says,
it's all about finding time to connect with the people
we love, and she leans in and kisses Prince Harry
and he's eating out of a cereal bowl, looking like
a guy who's been playing Call of Duty in the
basement for three days and has no idea why his
(01:02:50):
kitchen is covered in icing and pine needles and minor celebrities.
That's the review of the Daily Mail about the so
called domestic goddess Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. And
they show wreaths and cookies and her friends laughing and gasping,
veritably palpitating at their own fabulousness, before pulling a cracker
(01:03:15):
and whooping with merriments. I think this review is funnier
than the show. The show's not supposed to be funny,
but being a host or a hostess, Megan says, is
about making people feel comfortable. She's a woman who has
an uncanny ability to make the world uncomfortable. You can
(01:03:36):
see it for yourself. Maybe you better have some bourgeolet
nouveaux before you watch it. NASA's big reveal of the
Metsterius interstellar object has been slammed as a joke. People
say the space agency is covering up what they really
know about three I Atlas. They say it's a comet.
The Harvard professor says it's a spacecraft like a mother ship,
(01:04:00):
and it's coming closer and closer to Earth. That's where
we live. It's made some unexpected maneuvers and dumbfounded some
experts saying that can't be just a space rock. This
is like right out of a science fiction movie, isn't it?
And speaking of science fiction, the First Lady, Milania Trump,
(01:04:20):
was speaking to military personnel in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on Wednesday,
a Marine Corps air station New River. Speaking to personnel
and their families, Milania said AI represents the most profound
change to warfare since the creation of nuclear weapons, and
she says America can't lose this race. Quote. Artificial intelligence
(01:04:45):
is propelling America's military into a new era. We're moving
from human operators to human overshers fast. That's what the
First Lady said. No, just imagine her up there in
her accent Slovenian, saying the shift from soldiers to machines
is already underway. Autonomous helicopters, swarming drones, recon aircraft, fighterless jets, autanas,
(01:05:14):
bombers are on the way. Would you feel like you're
in some sort of dystopian future, like you're in the Terminator?
I mean, troops are going to be replaced by robots.
This is right out of the movie a Walmart reveals
(01:06:08):
whether US consumers have finally cracked it's the world's largest retailer,
and the Bell Weather for how the ordinary American is doing.
And then the jobs report comes. So the timing of
the triple whammy couldn't be worse. Stocks have been falling
for the past week. Tech giants been getting hammered. Traders
say the markets are gripped by extreme fear, so stay tuned.
(01:06:32):
Warren Buffett, he's been making some defensive moves.

Let's fly, Let's fly.
Speaker 18 (01:12:45):
If you can use.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
Well, we know a lot of the places that we're
going because for months, Nicole Nole Williams, every single day
on this program has been giving us options. She's the
president and CEO of Capitol Region International Airport. You have
heard her voice with the suggestions of where to go,
and now you get her live as the community to stay.
Will turn out at Capital Region Airport and visit and
(01:13:10):
see what's up and what's new and well. For a
while there during the government shutdown, there were people who
were concerned about what their trip to the airport might
be like. What was it like in Lansing versus places
like Houston where we saw three hour TSA weights.
Speaker 24 (01:13:27):
Yeah, hey, great to be with you this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
Thank you.
Speaker 24 (01:13:30):
I think our experience and what you probably thought if
you're traveling out of mid size, small sized communities, probably
very little impact to the day to day operations of
getting through TSA. What you found is a challenge within
maybe larger population bases because of the cost of living
within those areas. And you get to a point where
(01:13:52):
you've got employees that aren't getting paid to work to
have to look at other options to make sure their
bills are getting paid. And so there were situations at
maybe larger cities, larger communities where it was a greater
impact because folks for calling in just to maintain their
existing income, to pay for housing, to pay for cars,
(01:14:12):
to pay for gas for daycare. And I can't say
enough about this community here in Lansing region that supported
the employees at TSA and at SAA by maybe dropping
off pizza lunches, box lunches, gas cards for all of
those employees. So I want to extend a thank you
(01:14:35):
and appreciation for everybody that played that role to support
those employees right here at the Landing Airport.
Speaker 4 (01:14:42):
The airport that those who visit today will see versus
the airport that you took over when you became the CEO.
Is a very different place, isn't it.
Speaker 24 (01:14:55):
We've made a lot of improvements. It's been great. I've
got a fantastic team and we've worked out a lot
of different projects at the airport, from things that people
see with the new services with Freeze Airways to Nonstoppo
Orlando and Fort Myers, and of course are extended services
with Apple and Delta and American. But it's behind the scenes.
It's working on infrastructure and really diversifying income or revenue
(01:15:20):
bases opportunities for the airport for the long term. And
those are some of the exciting things that you know,
really the general public don't see as they come and go,
but you know, extending our relationship and partnership with UPS
as well as supporting improvements within roadways and infrastructure so
we can be built ready with some of the land
(01:15:41):
that we have available. So we're excited about some of
these projects all coming together this next year. As we've
been working on design and construction will be next year,
so we'll keep folks abreast of changes and impacts that
they might have. But yeah, some great things coming throughout
this next.
Speaker 25 (01:15:57):
Year as well.
Speaker 4 (01:15:59):
It's interesting because you have new amenities, relatively new amenities
at the airport Capital Region International Airport. But the convenience
of the airport and the systems that you have for
checking in and getting through TSA and getting to the
gate are so efficient that I imagine there's not a
lot of time to doddle for people you might want
(01:16:22):
to have a lunch or a drink or something like that.
Is this airport going to be one of those where
maybe people who don't have a boarding pass are going
to be able to go through TSA and maybe experience
those amenities, or have a meeting or send someone off
or meet them when they come in.
Speaker 24 (01:16:38):
You got it, and you can do that today. So
you can visit the airport's website fly Lansing dot com
and there is a standard form that's available on our
website to be able to go through security. Maybe you've
got a mother, an aunt, an uncle, or maybe your
kids are flying out you want to go with them
up to the gate. You can do that today. So
(01:17:00):
at entry form it's completed. It's Monday through Friday, where
we can help support folks that want to take folks
upstairs and maybe grab a bike to eat before their
friend or family is traveling out. So that is available
right now off of the airport's website. Visit fly Lansing
dot com to get more details to get registered. But
(01:17:20):
it's a very easy process to fill out the forum
and you go through TSA just like you normally would
if you're flying, give them your driver's license. You give
them your driver's license, and you go through security. So
the process, a background sort of speak check, is handled
right through the website entry form. So it's it's available today,
and we're excited that, you know, folks can come upstairs
(01:17:41):
and hang out lounge in our new kind of business
hold area that we have that's between gate five and six,
and the restaurant that we have available upstairs as well,
great food and a great way to you know, sit
and watch the airplanes come and go.
Speaker 4 (01:17:57):
Do you have to have a reason or qualify or
just have to request it.
Speaker 24 (01:18:01):
You just have to request it, so you don't even
have to necessarily have somebody that's traveling or going out.
But it's it's available right through the website and it
tells you exactly what you need to do when you
come out to.
Speaker 25 (01:18:13):
The airport to be able to go right through.
Speaker 24 (01:18:16):
But yeah, the purpose of it is really to help
support those that maybe want to send somebody off or
have the ability to greet somebody right when they come
in off of an aircraft. So it's a great addition,
and we wouldn't be able to do it without our partners,
you know, with TFA to help support us in this process.
But we had seen this, you know, when I was
(01:18:36):
with the airport before. This is one of those projects
we started discussing, and so I was excited that we
were able to get this put in place just this
past year and get it available for consumers to be
able to use.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
Do you anticipate a large amount of Thanksgiving holiday travel
through the airport.
Speaker 24 (01:18:55):
Yeah, we're excited. We've got, you know, of course the
Breeze flights going down to Florida, and of course our
Delton American services to DC and Detroit and Chicago. So yeah,
we'll anticipate some full flights going in and out of landing,
especially inbound. We love seeing all the families coming and
(01:19:15):
greeting those that are coming in for the holiday and
being able to spend time with family, and we'll experience
that same situation just before Christmas as well. So we
love seeing the folks coming and going. Holiday decor those
types of things are going up in the terminal, So
great opportunities for photo ops with families is there, send
in folks off or greeting them when they come to
(01:19:37):
the airport.
Speaker 4 (01:19:38):
I hope next time we talk soon about your personal
travels and where you've been lately and what we can
learn from you and be inspired by you. One of
the great business leaders in the tourism industry of Michigan
and beyond, Nicole Noel Williams, the president and CEO of
the Capital Region International Airport Fly Lancing dot com.

be embarrassed to ask questions about wine. And he's got
the six for sixty every month too, so it doesn't
even have to be expensive six bottles for sixty dollars.
(01:21:40):
Sounds good to me. Virginia Madsen sounds good to me too.
She was in the wine movie Sideways, and what a
beautiful movie it was, and the way she talked about
wine was beautiful.

this one is pretty damn good.
Speaker 33 (01:23:05):
This is the new one, right, Chris, just released about
two months ago.
Speaker 10 (01:23:08):
Nice job, We like it.
Speaker 33 (01:23:11):
You could work in a wine storm, ads, that'd be
a good move.
Speaker 10 (01:23:18):
Are you chewing gum?
Speaker 19 (01:23:20):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:23:21):
All that wine tasting advice and his buddy was chewing gum.
That's Paul Giamatti in the movie Sideways. Yeah, Matt'll let
you taste some wine there too before you buy it.
I'm sure if you have him open it up and

not to get two sideways drinking too much. Cheers from MPs.
Speaker 21 (01:24:01):
NBC News Radio, I'm Scott Carr. President Trump says he
signed the bill to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. The
Senate received the bill passed in the House by a
vote of four hundred and twenty seven to one, and
passed it with no vote taken, immediately passing it on
to President Trump for his signature. It's not clear when
the Department of Justice might release the files to the public.
(01:24:22):
Reports point to President Trump now signing off on a
Russia Ukraine peace plan. Mark Mayfield has details.
Speaker 22 (01:24:30):
NBC News says he approved the twenty eight point proposal
earlier this week. A senior Administration official tells the network
that the plan has been in the works for several weeks,
with the top US officials consulting both the Russian envoy
and Ukrainian representatives. The report says Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Mice,
President JD. Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were
among those who helped shape the proposal. The news comes
(01:24:52):
as an American delegation arrived Wednesday in Kiev to meet
with Ukrainian officials.
Speaker 21 (01:24:57):
The Justice Department is admitting that a full grand jub
jury never saw the final indictment against former FBI Director
James Comey, who's been accused of lying. During a twenty
twenty hearing about whether he ever authorized leaks to the
press and has pled not guilty. Interim US attorney Lindsay
Halligan took the stand briefly during a key hearing, saying
(01:25:18):
only two grand jurors reviewed the final indictment. Defense attorneys
saying that's a procedural error, then should bar the prosecution.
Funeral services for former Vice President Dick Cheney are set

The American Cancer Society says lung cancer's screening could save
sixty two thousand lives over five years. That's what their
own study shows. It was published Wednesday in the Journal
of the American Medical Association. Screening is fairly simple and
is done with the CT scan, but apparently only eighteen
percent of people eligible to get screened are doing so.
(01:26:19):
The ACS says to qualify, you must be fifty to
eighty years old and have a history of smoking two
packs of cigarettes a day for twenty years. Well, if
you bring a friend for moral support when getting a
flu shot, maybe you won't want to be that friend
one day. Pre Tennis with that story.
Speaker 15 (01:26:36):
Getting the shot is one thing anticipation the jab than
a nifty band aid. But it turns out watching someone
else get the shot is way worse. Researchers at Western
Sydney University studied brain activity and people watching others get
a shot. They found they had a stronger negative reaction
than the people actually getting jabbed health update.

and hot air balloon. And back in the day it
was the concord. They got it as fast as they
could because everyone was very, very excited to see what
was this wine going to be? Like, we're talking about
going all the way back to the fifteen hundreds, people
were very curious. Well, the eighteen hundreds, I have fuzzy math.
(01:28:01):
They would celebrate the end of the harvest, the end
of the crush, and drink some young wine and say, hmm,
how does that taste to you. We're gonna taste it first,
because we like to do that in the morning. You
might be listening in the afternoon or the evening, but
Matt Rhodes will steer us through as he always does
because he manages better than anyone to get a hold
(01:28:21):
of this wine and all around the world. I suppose
in France by now maybe somebody would have already tasted it.
But it's the kind of wine you can take to
someone for the holidays, and even if they don't like wine,
they're probably gonna like the nouveau. And guess what, it
won't set you back too much money. Matt Rhodes is
with us on our AT and T microphones. Happy Boujolet
(01:28:42):
Nouveau day, sir.
Speaker 6 (01:28:43):
Good morning, Michael Patrick, can same to you. Always a
great tradition that we carry.
Speaker 4 (01:28:47):
On here twenty years on this program and before that
with JP McCarthy, and it was the merchant of Veno,
Eddie Jonah and John Jonah who would bring the wine
to the Fisher building. So this is decades and decades
and decades, and we have found our wine expert, Jim Cash,
the founder of Rebel Sellers, who has the number one
(01:29:11):
creator of custom wine sellers in the world according to Forbes,
and our number one wine drinking friend. And he's with
us too. And you can get a Rebel cellar or
suggest it to someone or just peruse his website and
the beauty of it because it is not form following
function or function following form. It's just beauty coming from
(01:29:32):
right here in Michigan to high profile clients around the world.
James Happy, Boujeolet Newboday.
Speaker 49 (01:29:39):
I'm saying to you, Michael Patrick, thank you for that
charming introduction.
Speaker 4 (01:29:45):
It's fact that, oh abi key. Now, by the way,
I understand the two of you were together because Matt Rhodes,
you're breaking some news about the wine bar, which is
a perfect thing to bring up on a day like this,
which is of course right next to Dusty Cellar wine
Shop where you can get the bojo Let New Vaux
and the tap room. But there is a resurrection, if
(01:30:06):
you will. I know it's Christmas, so let's call it
a rebirth of the wine bar.
Speaker 20 (01:30:11):
What's the skinny, that's right.
Speaker 6 (01:30:12):
So we closed the wine bar back in July just
to need a time for a refresh in a reformat.
So we are reopening officially on Friday with more of
an Italian theme to both the wine menu and the
wine glass list.
Speaker 20 (01:30:26):
So we're excited.
Speaker 6 (01:30:28):
Our old time executive chef Kevin Cronin is back. So
he's oh yeah, reinvigorated everything, and we did a couple
of friends and family dinners the last couple of nights,
and Jim was luckily able to join us, and we're
ready to go. So we'll we'll be going live on Friday.
We got our French wine dinner tonight, and then then
(01:30:49):
we go.
Speaker 4 (01:30:51):
First of all, let's not let you get away so
quickly like that, because this is probably the first time
you've had a restaurant review right in your face right
after it happened. And this is a not so secret
shopping experience. So Jim Cash has eaten in some of
the finest restaurants around the world, from Spain to Chicago, etc.
(01:31:15):
And I've been with him for some of those meals.
So give us the restaurant review if you would, sir.
You've got a refined palate.
Speaker 49 (01:31:22):
Okay, So here we go. First of all, thanks to
Matt for inviting myself and my wife and a friend,
and it was just a wonderful evening. We sampled as
many of the new menu items as we could, and
all of them were great. He's breaking in a new
(01:31:44):
staff and wisely doing these soft openings make sure everything's
perfect for the Friday night, and I can give you
a blow by blow on the entrees and appetizers in
the dessert, but it's a long list.
Speaker 4 (01:32:01):
So well, maybe one or two or three three things
stood out.
Speaker 20 (01:32:06):
Yeah, sure, sure.
Speaker 49 (01:32:08):
Well we started off with a couple of the flatbreads,
which I think are new, and mine was a Mediterranean
with seafood style, and my wife's was an apricot or
bear I think, both fruit and vegetable kind of thing.
Speaker 20 (01:32:28):
Both of them were lovely.
Speaker 49 (01:32:31):
Our guests had the cheeseplate, which also was wonderful. And
then for the entrees, mine was this really creative egg
plant and fried green tomato over pasta very unique, very
(01:32:53):
very different, delicious. My wife had the chicken, I should say,
my wife, Carol had the chicken entree with rossotto, which
was also top shelf. And our guest had a pulled
beef pulled pork braised beef entree which just I could
(01:33:15):
see from across the table. She stuck her fork into
it and it just fell apart. And so Matt was
there to greet us. His new chef came by and
stopped by, and so did his manager, and the service
and the staff super friendly. Anybody who's not been to
(01:33:39):
Dusties in a while really needs to check it out.
Speaker 4 (01:33:44):
I don't like change, so I must know. Do you
still give away the little brownie bites?
Speaker 6 (01:33:48):
Sorry to say we do not, but if you ever
come in, Michael, I'll make that happen for you.
Speaker 49 (01:33:54):
This time he gave away some really nice chocolate Moose
desserts take so that was even better than the brownie.
Speaker 4 (01:34:02):
That's right now you're talking And Matt, what about you
know that penna alfredo that I like so much. I'm
not sure what you actually call it, but it's one
of the richest cream pastas I've ever had in my life.
Does that exist?
Speaker 20 (01:34:17):
Is not on the printed menu.
Speaker 6 (01:34:18):
But once again, Michael, you just tell me you're coming
and we sell that every day in our retail case
to go, so it's always it's always available.
Speaker 4 (01:34:28):
Oh okay, well, hey, there's no business like show business.
That's what that proves. And the good news is for
people who are coming into Dusty Cellar now to get
the Beaujolet, which we're about to taste, how much does
it cost? Is it easy to get? Will you run
out through the holidays?
Speaker 20 (01:34:48):
We will definitely definitely run out.
Speaker 6 (01:34:50):
You typically run out week between Christmas and New Year's
and it ranges from eighteen to twenty dollars a bottle,
which regrettably has no surprise that anybody took. You know,
a bit of an increase this year, but you know,
the quality is always there and.
Speaker 20 (01:35:06):
Very popular. So yeah, come on in and see us
and we'll take care of you.
Speaker 4 (01:35:09):
I'll give that that's a pretty good price for a
bottle of wine. How many glasses are typically in a bottle.
Speaker 20 (01:35:15):
Four to six, depending how you pour. In my world
there's four.
Speaker 4 (01:35:19):
So for for twenty dollars, I mean, there's four glasses
of wine. It's it's a pretty good deal. And though,
by the way, the labels are beautiful, very floral this
year for all three of them, the Rose and of
course the other two. I don't know who the artist is,
but we once had an artist from Mackinaw Island who
had the distinction of creating the Boujolet Nuveaux label. That is,
(01:35:42):
of course for George de beauf, which I guess is
probably the number one seller.

Speaker 4 (01:39:11):
If you saw the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and that
was starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, they were talking
about wine and they were walking through Michael Caine's beautiful,
beautiful wine cellar, and Steve Martin was kind of the
rube and he was wondering, you know what about these
(01:39:32):
wines or we drink them? And the response was this.
Speaker 53 (01:39:38):
All these wines, very all I purchased him to make
sense that they would can't fall up, so you got
a lot of wine and drink you can't drink them ready,
and they thought too better, so you sell them, might
never sell them, and they mean too much to me.
Speaker 4 (01:39:54):
That is the quandary Jim Cash, who is a wine collector,
and Matt Rhodes, who was a wine cellar. You love
them so much you can't drink them, and you can't
part with them, and you want to look at them
like a book that you've read or that you're going
to read. And in the case of rebel sellers, rebel
custom sellers, the wine is very easily displayed, and people
(01:40:17):
like that, Jim, don't they to be able to see
the labels like a library.
Speaker 49 (01:40:20):
They do, but they still face that question. You just
raise they love them too much to drink them, but
then they would never want to let them go, So yes,
but thank you. The sellers are now these days more
of a focal point in a lifestyle of a contemporary
(01:40:43):
home and we're happy to be part of it.
Speaker 4 (01:40:47):
Beautiful and Matt says he'd like to sell every bottle
out of Dusty cellar. He's not nostalgic at all about
any of it. Clear the place out.
Speaker 20 (01:40:55):
And nothing is not for sale.
Speaker 4 (01:40:58):
Okay, these beautiful bottles of Boujeo Les nouveaux are ready
to be tasted by Jim Cash, the refined Palette and
Matt Rhodes. Who then that's very strict. They don't let
anybody taste it. They don't release it before this very day, right, Matt, that.
Speaker 20 (01:41:14):
Is correct, will be the first to try it. And
just whenever you tell.
Speaker 4 (01:41:17):
Me, go yeh, please do. And these bottles have they
go round the world. It's like a sort of a
funny thing. But in the day they went by hot
air balloon and rickshaw and the Concord jet, and there
was always this big rush to get it to Hong
Kong and even Lansing, Michigan, where it is right now.
The bottle is open, the glasses are poured. I can
(01:41:40):
We'll start with Matt Rhodes. I guess because you've tasted
this since you were knee high to a bullfrog. As
Ben Wright used to say, I don't know when you
How old were you think when you had your first glass?
Speaker 20 (01:41:52):
Oh? Jeevez, good question. I never thought of that for taste.
Speaker 6 (01:41:57):
We've been in business thirty five six or something like that,
so I'd say I was about the late.
Speaker 49 (01:42:03):
Twenties, no boo before that, Matt, come on, yeah, all right,
here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:42:13):
Oh look, he won't answer. He answer. You can't tell
me your dad didn't pour you a little tipple at
Thanksgiving or something? Didn't he?
Speaker 20 (01:42:22):
Oh sure we did, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:42:24):
Okay, true confessional talking about what is it ac and
vino veritas? The truth comes from the wine.
Speaker 6 (01:42:30):
And going back to your point about you know, taking
wines out of your cellar, Gym was very generous and
brought a bottle out of his cellar to the wine
bar the are night, and we enjoyed a twenty five
year old Bordeaux. So he broke the rules, and he said,
they're not They are meant to be opened.
Speaker 20 (01:42:45):
Every once in a while.
Speaker 18 (01:42:46):
You just gotta do it.
Speaker 4 (01:42:48):
You didn't hit him with a corking fee, did you?
Speaker 20 (01:42:52):
Good question? We should have.
Speaker 18 (01:42:54):
He did not.
Speaker 49 (01:42:55):
He was very generous. I sought advance approval.
Speaker 4 (01:42:59):
So so he brings you a very exquisite Bordeaux and
you serve him today. Bojo let nuveau.
Speaker 20 (01:43:08):
How about that things? Some things are just not fair.
Speaker 4 (01:43:13):
Well, okay, go ahead with the elaborate taste and if
you wish to describe how you're tasting it, that's good
for us to learn too.
Speaker 6 (01:43:20):
Yeah, so you know, wine's kind of it's a a
with with your eye as visual, it's b with your
nose and then you know see with your taste on
your tongue and baujeol as is not meant to be
a you know, deep in depth wine. This is a bright, lively, fruity,
easy drinking. Drink it with like half a chill on it,
(01:43:41):
and it's meant to be drunk young.
Speaker 20 (01:43:45):
And it's from year to year.
Speaker 6 (01:43:47):
There typically is not a whole lot of variation on
the newbos and tasting the twenty twenty five. I think
they have kept tradition with that and it's pretty much
exactly what I hoped it would be and what it
is in the glass.
Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
Okay, that's your Those are your tasting notes.
Speaker 6 (01:44:08):
Then for Matt Rhodes, late fruity, some cherry and very enjoyable.
Going to pair with the wait lots of lots of
different foods, as Jim and I were talking about at
the break that pair well with the number of things
on the new winebar menu, and we will have it
available in the wine bar, both by the glass and
(01:44:29):
by the bottle.
Speaker 4 (01:44:31):
Don't be afraid to be contrary if you need to.
Jim Cash, what about your assessment of this new.
Speaker 49 (01:44:37):
Vaux, Well, it's exactly what you might expect. You mentioned
you've been doing this for twenty years, so it's there's
a good history there. I find it to be very
enjoyable and on the on the on the more quality
(01:44:58):
side of this for over the years. Although I don't
have a photographic palette memory, but I think it's very good.
And excuse me, as Matt said, it will go fantastically
with a lot of the holiday meals. So always it's
been Turkey and Thanksgiving, but the new menu at Matt's place,
(01:45:22):
several of the items I mentioned that we taste that
I could see this going perfectly with.
Speaker 6 (01:45:27):
Yeah, this pair is great with very traditional Thanksgiving dinners
for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:45:32):
Okay, And does it mean anything about this year's harvest
that's also talked about. That's very situational, isn't it It is?
Speaker 6 (01:45:39):
I mean, typically, yes, there is a correlation between the
quality of neu Veaux and the quality of the p
se regular bougelats throughout the year. It really depends on
kind of the end of the year, the harvest. If
they had any weather events at the end of the
harvest that would affect things. But I've not heard anything
adverse about the twenty twenty five venues, so it should
be a good year for the Baujelai is the file
(01:46:01):
that will be released next year.
Speaker 4 (01:46:04):
Google Revel custom Sellers and dream and share it with
someone who would like to have that sort of exquisite
wine cellar in their home or even their office, and
go see Matt Rhoades at his office Dusty Cellar on
Grand River where you can get Boujelat Nouveaux and any
other wine, or at Dustysellar dot com. It's MPs cheers.
(01:46:29):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(01:46:52):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
(01:47:12):
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts

costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit mibludaily

the Federal Trade Commission accused the social media company of
having a monopoly on social networking. A federal judge wrote
that the FTC failed to prove its case originally started

The FTC said it was disappointed in the decision and
is considering legal options.

In the Northeast, Cloudy skies across New England and the
mid Atlantic, with scattered light showers. From Boston to New
York high stop out in the upper forties. Clouds are
moving out in the mid Atlantic States from Philly to
d Sea, with temperatures hitting the mid fifties. In the Southeast,
sunshine across the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. Thames top out
in the low eighties. A storm is moving into the
Deep South, bringing rain from eastern Texas through Louisiana and
(01:59:16):
to Mississippi. Cold and blustery in the Midwest, with snow
showers around the Great Lakes, especially in Michigan and northern Ohio.
Further west, partly cloudy and cold, with highs in the
upper twenties north to the low forties. South sunny throughout
the Plain States, but the northern plains are main cold,
with temperatures in the upper thirties. The central and southern
plains warm into the mid sixties. Parts of the desert
Southwest could see some rain showers as the storm system
(01:59:39):
moves out of the region and leave sunshine behind highs
mainly in the sixties. Another the storm system is moving
into central and southern California with rain and temperatures in
the upper fifties. And in the Pacific Northwest, there's plenty
of rain from Seattle to Portland. That's your national forecast.

Patrick Shields.
Speaker 4 (02:00:51):
Out this morning. Then it's Michael Patrick shields with you
from the end of the road at the top of
the world with a tail well calculated to keep you
in suspense. We get your hump Day Wednesday, Turkey on
the Road. One bite, everyone knows the rules. Another one
and this one, though in particular, has a lot of
(02:01:11):
special guests, including Ronald McDaniel, who was chair of the
Republican National Committee now the Chief executive Officer of Michigan. Forward.
She will join us. Coming up, we're going to touch
base on what's happening with the President of the United
States and the governor of Michigan and all the other
leadership that's taking place. And speaking of leaders he was
(02:01:32):
Attorney General and wanted to be governor, still does. Mike
Cox will join us again. It's been a while since
he's been here. And there's going to be apparently a
candidate debate on Thursday in Traverse City, and you know,
we're heard on radio stations across the state of Michigan,
and that includes WMKT and Traverse City, Lancing, WJIM, Grand Rapids, WTKG, WKZO, Kalamazoo,
(02:02:00):
and in the Great Southwest WSJM, Saint Joe Benton Harbor,
WKBZ Muskegon, Watt Cadillac, and WBRN Big Rapids, Read City
everywhere in between at MIBiG show dot com, where you
can find streaming, audio and podcasting and connect with us
there there any old time you want. The President of
(02:02:26):
Eastern Michigan University, James Smith will be with us. We
haven't talked with him in a while either. And Larry
Olmstead on what's going on in boy Country where clearly
we are heard on the radio. Dennis much More was
Governor Snyder's chief of staff. He's with the Honigman firm.
He will be with us. And oh gosh, Jeff Donofrio,
the president and CEO of Business Leaders from Michigan, and
(02:02:48):
it's been a while since we've taken to the skies
with Nicole and ol Williams, the CEO of Capitol Region
International Airport, will be here. There's talk that there's going
to be a lot of travel coming up over the
river and through the woods for Thanksgiving weekend. A lot
of it will be done by car, but we'll touch
base with her nevertheless, because the airports have been rough
and tumble lately, but are supposedly back to business after
(02:03:11):
the government shutdown. Ended. Doctor John Wycoff of the wy
Cough Wellness Center is here. Are you going to overeat
at Thanksgiving? Well, maybe this is the time when you
say I'm gonna do it, and then I'm gonna do it.
He has some weight loss ideas for us, and we
can always use those, it seems to me. The big
(02:03:32):
idea was that Enbridge Energy would spend five hundred million
dollars to build something called the Great Lakes Tunnel. No,
why would they do that? Well, because for over fifty years,
maybe over sixty now, the Line five pipelines have been
operating on the bottom of the Straits of Mackinaw. They've
been there just as long as the Mackinaw Bridge because
(02:03:53):
they were built by the same company. But people said, well,
we better watch it, we've got time. We don't like
those pipepelines dangerous. Well, well, they're operating fine. But what
they'll do is they'll go and build a tunnel two
hundred feet below in the bedrock, spend five hundred million
to do it, and then connect the Upper Peninsula with
the Lower Peninsula, and other service elements can be connected
(02:04:15):
in those tunnels too, And so Ryan Duffy talked about
the Michigan Supreme Court deciding because ever since Enbridge said
they would do that and made a deal with Governor
Snyder's administration to do it, there's been court wrangling back
and forth about all of it. So the Supreme Court
decided it would hear a case based on the Enbridge
(02:04:38):
Tunnel project permits.
Speaker 5 (02:04:42):
This goes back to the approval we received.
Speaker 45 (02:04:44):
From the Michigan Public Service Commission the NPSC for the
tunnel project, and it made that approval decision back in
twenty twenty three, and then the Michigan Court of Appeals
affirmed that was the right decision. But now here a
couple of groups have asked the Michigan Supreme Court to
look at it. So that's what's going to be happening.
Speaker 54 (02:05:02):
So from our perspective, we're confident in the FPSD thorough process.
It did take more than three years. They carefully reviewed
the project, and then we agree with that February decision
from the Court of Appeals that affirmed all the work
the NPSC did. The Court of Appeals basically said that
the NPSC appropriate appropriately looked at the location of Line
(02:05:24):
five replacement segment that will be there in the tunnel
and that the approval was consistent with Michigan law.
Speaker 45 (02:05:30):
So for us in our tunnel project team, now you know,
they're hard at work every day moving this project forward,
focused on the work moving Line five into a tunnel
that will be there deep under the lake bed at
the strait.
Speaker 5 (02:05:43):
It really will make.
Speaker 45 (02:05:44):
What's always been a safe pipeline that much safer and
then also make sure that people have access to that
energy they need and use every day. And the project's
also going to support jobs and the economy.
Speaker 4 (02:05:57):
That's Ryan Duffy from Enbridge Energy Ironic. That is in
the sort of Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula, in the
Straits of Mackinaw. If you were to take a boat
and go down to Detroit, you would find the Gordy Howbridge,
which will connect Canada and the United States, and that's
going to open in twenty twenty six for trucks and cars.
(02:06:18):
And there is a big project there that was just
finished not too far from that bridge, the Detroit Riverwalk,
and Claude Mullinari from visit Detroit dot com explain to
us where with the Ralph with Wilson Park and the
rest of that stretch we could get into it and
get onto it and enjoy the Detroit riverfront.
Speaker 26 (02:06:39):
They could start at Bellisle or start at the far
end right by the Ambassador Bridge. Everywhere in between on
the Riverwalk is spectacular. See Ralph Wilson Centennial Park is
right next to the current post office down by the
Ambassador Bridge, but it is beautiful. But all along the
whole riverwalk from Blade Park to co and fly to
(02:07:00):
where the Gilbert family put in the Pirate Ship. That's
a great water park. During the summer, the riverwalk.
Speaker 54 (02:07:06):
Is just spectacular.
Speaker 26 (02:07:08):
Couldn't be better.
Speaker 4 (02:07:10):

do and get a bottle of boujolet for less than
twenty dollars. He says it's a good one and it's
a harbinger of the holidays for sure. I got I
(02:13:13):
have to laugh when we talk about a nice restaurant
like the wine bar. And of course Jim Cash and
Matt Rhodes have very refined palettes. I wanted to play
for them. This clip of Donald Trump this week speaking
at a Saudi for him about his favorite type of food.
Here he was waxing eloquent. Well, we have a little
(02:13:41):
issue with the audio. That's okay. I'll just tell you
that he loves McDonald's and he loves the file of
fish sandwich. Okay. Moving along, Michael Patrick with you. A
man who also got some food gifted to him. Pope
Leo Illinois Governor JB. Pritzker went there and he brought
some craft beer from North Center's Burning Bush Brewery, and
(02:14:03):
it's a former pastor who operates that brewery, and Pope
Leo said, quote will put these in the fridge when
he received the beer. There were a lot of Hollywood
celebrities also visiting with the Pope earlier this week, and
then the Pope also talked about the immigration policies once
again in the United States, and you know, he speaks
(02:14:26):
in a general sense about the United States immigration policy.
But then the people who crafted into the media try
to say that he's attacking the President Donald Trump verbally.
Jace Bolger is the president and CEO of the West
Michigan Policy Forum, former Speaker of the House, and on
our radio stage, and a devout Catholic. What is if
(02:14:46):
you wouldn't mind your reaction to this West Michigan educated
American pope these days as he walks the line of politics,
beer drinking and being a white Sox fan.
Speaker 5 (02:15:00):
Morning, Michael Patrick. You know what's interesting. I have visited
the Vatican and noticed a substantial wall around the Vatican
and security that she had to go in in order
to get into the Vatican. So they were checking people
coming in to provide for their security. So I did
find that interesting. And you point out he's speaking very generally,
(02:15:20):
and yet people try to then twist that to fit
the narratives that they want.
Speaker 4 (02:15:25):
That's how it seems to me, And they put words
in his mouth, and I was afraid that was going
to happen. When there was an American quote unquote American
pope who became the Holy Father. But you know what
do I knowing? By the way, that's interesting that you
bring up the walls around the Vatican because one of
the churches I think it was Pope Francis that'd like
to go to was Saint Something outside the walls. I
(02:15:47):
forget the actual name of it, but that's that's part
of the name of it. Outside the walls. And if
you saw shoes of the fishermen, remember how the Nazis
couldn't come across the line that was Vatican City and
the Hope would walk right up to the line and
talk with them. So there is history of a border,
and you know, one of the world's smallest countries quote
(02:16:08):
unquote principalities, that's right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:16:11):
Yeah, there is.
Speaker 5 (02:16:12):
And you can't be a country without a border.
Speaker 4 (02:16:16):
There was once a movie called Escape from New York.
I wonder if that's going to be modern reality.
Speaker 9 (02:16:21):
Now.
Speaker 4 (02:16:21):
I see the President's going to meet with the newly
elected mayor this week. Wouldn't you like to be a
fly on the wall in that meeting?
Speaker 5 (02:16:28):
Yeah, we might get the chance. He has a tendency though,
to bring in the cameras to the show, so we
must see what's going on.
Speaker 4 (02:16:36):
He's going to get the Zelenski treatment probably, well, you know.
Speaker 20 (02:16:41):
You never know.
Speaker 5 (02:16:42):
It'll be curious because he's from New York. He just
won election, so he won and he's plain talking. At
least he's eloquent, and so we'll see whether Trump appreciates
that or whether he wants to spa over the policies,
because I think there's a lot to be concerned about
the policy. So I thank you. Right, there's people already
have fled from New York City and a lot of
(02:17:05):
them are going to southern Florida. And we'll see what
happens if his policies take hold of it. You can
see a whole lot more flame.
Speaker 4 (02:17:14):
Well, in fairness, now we have people who want us
to sign a ballot proposal here in Michigan that could
cause people also to go streaming for the exits, let
alone trying to attract new business, as I understand it.
Speaker 5 (02:17:27):
Yeah, that's right. And you just had Rick Scott, former
governor of Florida, in visiting Michigan and speaking of Florida
and the New York example. That is exactly what he
shared is as other communities, other states have done bad
things with taxes, dumb things with taxes. They have seen
people flood to Florida because capital is mobile people. And
(02:17:49):
really he made a very good point that the wealthier,
the people with income, aren't the ones that are hurt.
Speaker 4 (02:17:55):
They moved.
Speaker 5 (02:17:56):
It's the people who are left behind. They move and
not just take their business, this and their opportunities. They
take their philanthropy with them. They take a lot of
support and engagement in their communities with them, and so
what they leave behind doesn't hurt the wealthy. They've gone elsewhere.
Who it hurts are those who are left there, and
in many cases that's the poor. And so we've got
(02:18:16):
a proposal in Michigan that would more than double the
income tax that would be paid chiefly by small businesses.
It wouldn't fix the schools. There's no guarantee you would
fix the schools, and so it would be damaging on
all fronts. And I think it's kind of an issue
that while people try to frame it as tax the
rich sign this to fix the schools, it does anything
(02:18:39):
but what they say. And so if your listeners are
approached with this, I would encourage them to very strongly
decline to sign and make sure they tell their friends
and family to do the same, as.
Speaker 4 (02:18:52):
Did Ronald McDaniel earlier this week to us from Forward Michigan.
The Misha, former chair of the Republican National Committee, really
a part ofan issue though it's a practical issue. And
we had yesterday too Jeff Donofrio from business leaders from
Michigan who said, look, our education system, no matter who
the governor is, needs to be remade. We're not getting
(02:19:13):
any return on investment or very little.
Speaker 5 (02:19:15):
Well, that's right, yeah, our funding is way up. Our
textpayers are paying where where our kids are getting left.
Speaker 4 (02:19:20):
Okay, you heard it straight from the former Speaker of
the House. The current Speaker of the House is coming later.
But Jas Boulder, do you have tickets for the opening
of Act You sure, Amphitheater on May fifteenth with Verve
Pipe and Lionel Ritchie.
Speaker 5 (02:19:34):
Well, I don't yet, but I'll be buying for him.
I'll be trying to find something.
Speaker 4 (02:19:38):
Okay, that'd be good to sit next to you there,
that's for sure. War and Treaty will be there too.
The Michigan group that's been singing national anthems at the
Lions game and on Monday night Football. Congratulations, Grand Rapids.
That's going to be one beautiful entertainment venue. And let's
hope the weather on May fifteenth, you know cooperates MPs
back in a flash.
Speaker 22 (02:20:00):
There's been a big victory in court for the parent
company of Facebook and Instagram. Roy O'Neil explains.
Speaker 23 (02:20:05):
Metta is coming out as the winner in court after
the Federal Trade Commission accused the social media company of
having a monopoly on social networking. A federal judge wrote
that the FTC failed to prove its case, originally started
five years ago during the first Trump administration, after Meta
acquired Instagram and WhatsApp to operate alongside its popular Facebook platform.
(02:20:27):
The FTC said it was disappointed in the decision and
is considering legal options.

Speaker 4 (02:21:08):
You're listening to Michael Patrick Shields radio stations across the
state of Michigan worldwide at mibigshow dot com. We were
on the lookout for Donnie Steele, the state representative Republican
from Lake Oreon. She's concerned about fairness and safety and
girls volleyball, and I guess we we'll connect with her
at a future time on that topic. So it seems
(02:21:30):
one of the topics that's been spooking me out. Well,
I want to remind you also, you heard earlier me
accidentally say it's Wednesday morning, It's Thursday morning. Where did
the week go? The powerball nobody won it yesterday. So
Saturday's jackpot is six hundred and twenty nine million dollars.
Friday's Mega Millions is sixty million, and you better spend
(02:21:50):
it if you get it, because we don't know exactly
what three I Atlas is. NASA is telling us it's
a comet. Professor from Harbor saying it's a mothership spaceship
of some sort, so you know it's freaky right, and
they're taking pictures of it now from Mars and other places.
And we don't know who to believe or what to believe.
(02:22:13):
And the First Lady, imagine this, she was speaking to
marines in North Carolina. This is right out of the Terminator.
She's telling these people at the Marine Corps air station
that AI is the profound change to warfare, the most
profound sense. Nuclear weapons were created, and we're moving from
human operators to human overseers. That's what the First Lady said.
(02:22:36):
Imagine her up there in her accent, telling these people
that the shift from soldiers to machines is already underway.
Autonomous helicopters and swarming drones and recon aircraft are here now,
fighterless jets and autonomous bombers are on the way.
Speaker 20 (02:22:53):
My god.
Speaker 4 (02:22:54):
People are saying this sounds like the Terminator, and it does.
And you know, these troops will be replace by robots,
and I guess there'll be less loss of life on
the part of the soldier. I don't know what to say,
except this is like right out of a damn movie
and we're living in it and there's nothing we can
do about it. And so the First Lady was just
(02:23:16):
warning the soldiers that this is the warfare that's coming.
And the rest of the world's doing it, so we
have to and we better not lose this sort of
space race, if you will. It's MPs through the AT
and T Microphone's very pleased to be with you on
this Thursday morning. And oh they were criticizing the first
(02:23:36):
lady too because she wore Saudi Arabian green at the
dinner with MBS, the Prince of Saudi Arabia at the
White House the other Knights.
Speaker 21 (02:24:01):
NBC News Radio, I'm Scott Carr. President Trump says he
signed the bill to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. The
Senate received the bill passed in the House by a
vote of four hundred and twenty seven to one, and
passed it with no vote taken, immediately passing it on
to President Trump for his signature. It's not clear when
the Department of Justice might release the files to the public.
(02:24:22):
Reports point to President Trump now signing off on a
Russia Ukraine peace plan.
Speaker 18 (02:24:28):
Mark Mayfield has details.
Speaker 22 (02:24:30):
NBC News since he approved the twenty eight point proposal
earlier this week. A senior Administration official tells the network
that the plan has been in the works for several weeks,
with the top US officials consulting both the Russian envoy
and Ukrainian representatives the reports and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
Vice President JD. Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio
were among those who helped shape the proposal. The news
(02:24:52):
comes as an American delegation arrived Wednesday in Kiev to
meet with Ukrainian officials.
Speaker 21 (02:24:57):
The Justice Department is admitting that a full grand jury
never saw the final indictment against former FBI Director James Comey,
who's been accused of lying during a twenty twenty hearing
about whether he ever authorized leaks to the press and
has pled not guilty. Interim US attorney Lindsay Halligan took
the stand briefly during a key hearing, saying only two
(02:25:19):
grand jurors reviewed the final indictment. Defense attorneys saying that's
a procedural error, then should bar the prosecution. Funeral services
for former Vice President Dick Cheney are set for today
in the nation's capital. The nation's forty sixth vice president
passed away earlier this month at the age of eighty four.
Expected to speak as former President George W.

Speaker 13 (02:25:57):
The American Cancer Society says lung cancer screening could save
sixty two thousand lives over five years. That's what their
own study shows. It was published Wednesday in the Journal
of the American Medical Association. Screening is fairly simple and
is done with a CT scan, but apparently only eighteen
percent of people eligible to get screened are doing so.
(02:26:19):
The ACS says to qualify, you must be fifty to
eighty years old and have a history of smoking two
packs of cigarettes a day for twenty years. Well, if
you bring a friend for moral support when getting a
flu shot, maybe.
Speaker 14 (02:26:33):
You won't want to be that friend one day. Pre
Tennis with that story.
Speaker 15 (02:26:37):
Getting the shot is one thing anticipation the jab than
a nifty band aid. But it turns out watching someone
else get the shot is way worse. Researchers at Western
Sydney University studied brain activity and people watching others get
a shot. They found they had a stronger negative reaction
than the people actually getting jabbed.
Speaker 14 (02:26:55):
Health update, I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.
Speaker 4 (02:27:10):
Will it's not always read.
Speaker 20 (02:27:12):
He'll be days like this one the no one could
plain it.
Speaker 10 (02:27:17):
There'll be days like this.
Speaker 20 (02:27:20):
What every thing falls in the place, doct go flick
of a switch? Oh, my mama told me it'll be
days like this.
Speaker 4 (02:27:30):
Oh you didn't believe me when I said that Donald
Trump was talking about in a speech the other day. Yeah,
he was. And you know, while we're tasting boujeolat nouveau
from Dusty Cellar and talking about you know, wine and
Thanksgiving dinner and all the rest of it, the president
was in front of a forum having to do with
Saudi Arabia in fact, and somehow he wandered into his
(02:27:52):
favorite things to eat, and it was filet of fish.
He loved it so much he made a noise like hmmmm.
He also complained he wanted more tartar sauce. You'll have
to take my word for it, apparently MPs with you
business leaders they have.
Speaker 34 (02:28:11):
I like the fish, I like it. You could do
a little bit more tartar sauce. So please, seriously, I
hate when I.
Speaker 20 (02:28:22):
Said you have any Do you understand that? Yes, he
understand that, because no.
Speaker 4 (02:28:28):
Matter cute business leaders for Michigan is united by an
ambitious goal to make Michigan a top ten state for
jobs and talent and a thriving economy. We spoke just
the other day with Jeff Donofrio and they are asking
whoever is the next governor to have a laser focus
on prosperity and that essentially the education element in Michigan
(02:28:52):
lagging so sadly behind even though more money gets thrown
at it. And there were other pillars of what they're
talking about to improve our states education, the workforce, and
business fundamentals. A man who knows that. And by the way,
we just spoke to Jace Boulger a few minutes ago.
He's the former Speaker of the House. Now we have,
(02:29:13):
luckily enough, the current Speaker of the House, Matt Hall,
the Republican from Richland Township. Welcome to the airwaves and
thanks for being here. Yeah, great to be with you,
this current governor who was given two terms by Michigan voters.
One of the elements in addition to fixing the damn
roads that she touted would be transparency. There would be
(02:29:33):
people who would say, you have done more for transparency
in your time as a Speaker than she has as governor.
Would that be fair to say?
Speaker 3 (02:29:43):
Oh?
Speaker 42 (02:29:43):
I think so.
Speaker 13 (02:29:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:29:44):
I mean.
Speaker 35 (02:29:47):
We pushed the Heat Plan, the Hall Ethics, Accountability and
Transparency Planned. You know when I became Speaker, because I
was looking at all these budgets that were going on
under Whitmer, and they would just shove in in the
last minute billion dollars or more of pork in there,
and you know, we wouldn't know what any of this was,
but it get approved because you know, we were there
(02:30:10):
to vote for public safety, healthcare, education, roads, and so
you know they shove this stuff on in the end.
Speaker 15 (02:30:18):
Well, it adds up.
Speaker 35 (02:30:19):
So when I became Speaker, I just said, look, we're
going to come up with the Hall Ethics, Accountability a
Transparency Plan. We're going to stop this. We're going to
make them disclose at least forty five days in advance
what this stuff is. Put their name on it so
we know who's sponsoring it. Banned for profit companies from
getting it. Make us, you know, tell us what the
(02:30:42):
public purpose is, give us a description so we can
bet these things. I mean, you saw people get criminal
charges over these things, and a lot of very wasteful
uses so we put that forward and I willed it
into power by saying, we're not doing this budget unless
you guys agree to make this permanent law.
Speaker 4 (02:31:01):
And they did, and there was pressure, of course, with
the possible shutdown we saw the federal government have one.
Michigan narrowly avoided it. But is are you surprised that
something like this hasn't happened sooner that we've been operating
with the ability to you know, put these sorts of
things in place without the scrutiny that you're asking for,
(02:31:24):
or the transparency maybe is a better word.
Speaker 35 (02:31:28):
Well, there was so much money, you know, during the
COVID nineteen pandemic, there's so much money floating around, and
I think there was a lot of there were no rules,
and you know, I just felt like if we put
rules in place, you know, it would protect us as
elected officials, because you know, the people come to you
(02:31:49):
with all kinds of pitches and you say, look, okay,
we'll disclose it.
Speaker 5 (02:31:54):
You know, we'll vet it.
Speaker 35 (02:31:56):
It can't go to your for profit corporation. And you know,
I think this is going to lead to all that
shady stuff and not making it into the bill because
they don't want it out in the open, so you know,
and then there were a lot I mean, you know,
there's a lot of pressure on the politicians to support
a lot of their political allies, and we've seen that
(02:32:18):
with the pork spending. So what I was surprised is
when I was in the room how difficult it was
to make us happen. But we decided. I decided, I'm
not supporting any pork in this budget until you agree
to this, and brings The Democrats agreed because they wanted
to pork so bad.
Speaker 4 (02:32:35):
What was the argument against?
Speaker 35 (02:32:40):
It's just like this is too rigid. What if there's
some emergency. You know, they always let the emergency swallow
up the routine, So I mean, what if there's an
emergency and we can't do it forty five days before
a bill, how do we It's like, okay, well, so
let's let's dress the problem and then if that ever
(02:33:02):
comes up, I mean, we'll work, we'll work on a solution.
But you know, they want to swallow that up instead
of fix the real problem, which is the all the
billions every year that gets shoved in there and nobody
knows what it is until after the vote. And a
lot of it is not justified.
Speaker 4 (02:33:24):
These are examples we saw in the federal government when
Elon Musk and Doge came through and started reminding people
about money that was going all over the world for
some curious things. And of course in Michigan, I guess
the example that will always be held up is the
eight thousand dollars coffee maker or is too much being
made about that?
Speaker 35 (02:33:45):
Well, that's a great point. And so what we did
in the Heat Plan, the Hole Epics Accountability Transparency Plan,
is we were changing this from where they pay it
out in advance to where you have to you have
to get approval for those expenditures and then get reimbursed
or approval, and then they'll make you know, they'll give
(02:34:05):
you the money for each expenditure. That's a big change
because you know, we knew some of these projects were wrong,
and the Whitmer administration wouldn't do anything about it. They're like,
we can't audit them until they spend a certain amount
of money. Well, now they have to get that approval
after the fact. So that's going to stop that stuff
like the coffee maker from happening again.
Speaker 4 (02:34:26):
Well, I always think of the state government as a
giant condo board, and all of us are paying our
dues into it every month, our taxes. And you know,
it's different when you go to a condo association meeting
and you see the budget laid out and you get
a voice, you can stand up and yell about it.
But the citizens don't have really often the chance to
do something like that, at least not directly. And so
(02:34:48):
we depend on the people that quote unquote represent us
to make sure that our money is being spent effectively
and fairly. And we appreciate that from you. Do you
get many knocks on doors, Matt Hall, Speaker of the
House from candidates for governor who wonder if you might
like to be their running mate.
Speaker 18 (02:35:08):
No, no, I don't you know.
Speaker 35 (02:35:11):
I'm I mean, what I'm trying to do as a
as a speaker is to be a resource to all
the candidates and to you know, help them develop their
platform so that when when we win the governorship, you know,
we can partner and get all things done immediately. We've
got a lot of changes. You talked about what the
business leaders from Michigan thinks, and we got a lot
(02:35:31):
of work to do. We got to start early.
Speaker 4 (02:35:34):
Okay, maybe putting restoring right to work would be on
that list.
Speaker 35 (02:35:40):
Well, some people, some people want to do that, so well,
you know, we're going to assess a lot of things,
but you know, I think we're going to be focused
on in our education system and getting you know, kids to.
Speaker 20 (02:35:54):
To read.
Speaker 4 (02:35:55):

INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump has signed
the bill to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. He Senate
received the House past bill on Wednesday morning and immediately

for governor. William Null is his name. He lives in
Barry County in Dalton, forty three yearsyears old. He filed
a campaign finance statement of organization this week with the state.

He's applying for a reporting waiver as he doesn't plan
to raise or spend more than one thousand dollars on
his campaign. His treasurer is Eric Monitor, who was also
acquitted of the charges, and this publicity in the news
probably more than he would ever pay for for one

Speaker 4 (02:40:42):

Superintendent Ben Schuldener is leaving, going to be the superintendent

data center proposed there and according to the state Senator

it will not be on public land. She says she
has assurances public lands are not going to be sold

away the book is what they might try to do.
Meltrotter Ministries Grand Rapids, where were heard on WTKG, has
collected almost six thousand turkeys for Thanksgiving. They had an
initial goal to get five thousand, and they've had their

twenty second annual turkey drop yesterday to collect the donations.
Wonder what that means. Turkey drop not like in WKRP
in Cincinnati where they pushed a turkey out of a
helicopter over a shopping mall parking lot. Because that led
mister Carlson to say, as God as my witness, I
thought turkeys could fly. Remember and Les Nessman was there
(02:43:39):
reporting it as if it were the crash of the
Hindenburg because the turkey plummeted. Anyway, we're close to Thanksgiving.
Congratulations to Meltrotter Ministries, by the way, and they say
that they need these turkeys this year because of the
long federal shutdown for the snap benefits that I just mentioned.
