Speaker 1 (00:04):
Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
We go the horses away to carry this life through
the wild and drifting staff over the river.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Through the woods, all the winds, these things, the dose
and bites, the noses over the ground. We go over
the river and through the grandmother's.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
If you're going over the river and through the woods
to grandmother's house, you might want to stop and pick
up some lottery tickets on the way as a gift,
maybe some scratchers or instant tickets at places like Meyer
or any of the lottery retailers across the state of Michigan.
Admire you get more of the things you want most,
and with the lottery you could really hit the jackpot.

(00:44):
And every year the school Aid fund gets over a
billion dollars because you and I play the Michigan Lottery.
And they have all sorts of fun holiday versions that
you can give away to and stick it in a
you know, holiday card or Thanksgiving card or put it
in the stuffing and maybe someone will find it and
there I don't really advise you do that, but you

(01:05):
know who knows. At that point. We also been talking
a lot about Michigan versus Ohio. State. The game is
in ann Arbor, down the street from Ipsilanti, where Eastern
Michigan University is waiting for you, but also in Rochester.
You can learn by doing because three out of four
Oakland University students combine academics with internships or research, preparing

(01:27):
them to make a professional impact from day one. And
you can discover how at Oakland dot Edu. It's MPs.
We were just in Las Vegas last week for the
Las Vegas Grand Prix. There was a lot of technology
on display there with cars going over two hundred miles
an hour. Kendra Blocker is the lead seat belt engineer

(01:49):
and technical specialists at General Motors GM, and she's on
our radio stage right now when maybe you'll be racing
to your holiday, but doing so cautiously and with the
speed limited mind because Triple A is saying seventy one
point seven million Americans are going to be traveling by

(02:10):
car over this long weekend, whether they're going to their
grandmother's house or whether they're going to a football game
like the Lions or the Wolverines or any of the
other ones. Thanksgiving Spartans Downtown Detroit among the deadliest travel holidays,
which is a sad thing to say, but it's a
reminder that is worth passing along, and you're doing so,

(02:30):
and we're thankful for that. Welcome to the airwaves.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
Yeah, thank you very much for having me. You're right,
Triple A is predicting a lot of people to be
on the roads this weekend to visit family, friends, football,
all those cool Thanksgiving activities, and this increase in traffic,
so definitely an increase of traffic accidents and risks to
injuries and fatalities. So yeah, we're spreading the word to

(02:56):
start your holiday road trip with a click and buckle up. Now,
generally it's a pretty easy thing to do, right.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Some of the cars used to come where the seat
belt would automatically buckle you, and I don't know if
they still make those anymore, But every once in a
while I forget because I'm in a hurry, and then
I look down, I say, hey, and I better put
that thing on. And I think, statistically, in Michigan, because
I don't know how they study this, but somehow they do,
we are one of the states that is the most

(03:27):
compliant with wearing seat belts, and maybe that's because a
lot of the cars we're driving are made right here,
and we're very much aware of the auto industry.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
What do you think, Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Now.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
You know, generally Americans are doing a pretty good job
and Michigan's one of the better states where the front
row about ninety one percent of the people are buckling up.
But you know what, as you go back in the
rear rows, that second and third row of your vehicles,
actually seat belt usage goes down, and that's concerning. So
GM's got some new technologies to help people remember put

(04:00):
their seat belts on. One of them is rear seat
belt reminder, which you know, you sometimes get a false
sense of safety in that rear row, but the truth
is that half the vehicle in vehicle fatalities involve unbuckled passengers.
So instead, what we're adding to most of our cars
now is this rear seat belt reminder. It's like a

(04:21):
little icon that's on air front cluster and it has
redexes for people who are unbuckled and green check marks
for people who are buckled. You know, I've got two
teens and I'm always telling them to turn around and
buckle up, you know, So now it's like I have
my own little personal naughty and niseless on my dash
to tell me which one I need to talk to.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
You know, we even on the airplanes they tell you
please keep your seat belt on in flight because you
just never know. And one of the most memorable sad
lessons we learned was the Detroit Red Wings when they
were celebrating winging the Stanley Cup and there was a
limousine crash in Birmingham that incapacitated some of the people
inside that limousine. Because you wouldn't think to buckle up

(05:05):
in a.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Limousine, right, yeah, and some people don't. Let's when you're
in the rear rows. You got to buckle up in
every seat every time. If you're taking a ride share
or you're ride along with your family, even in those
rear roads, you need to buckle up and then wear
your seatbelt properly too. Some people have issues where they
don't think it's comfortable. We have adjusters to help you

(05:25):
move all that, but you got to wear your seatbelt
over your shoulder and on your lap so it's in
the proper position. If unfortunately a crash does occur. You know,
if you don't wear it properly, you stick it under
your arm. Or around your head. It really increases your
chance of injury by like forty five percent. It's quite huge.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
Well, we appreciate General Motors caring about us and what
they've done for Michigan and the United States and the
world over the years, and we promise, we promise to
wear the seat belt. It's Michael Patrick Shields. Some people
will be going right over the mackinaw Bridge. You know.
Hunting season is still on too. I should mention that
Ryan Duffy from Enbridge Energy has talked to us about

(06:06):
tunnel projects like the one that will be right next
to the mackinaw Bridge, the Great Lakes Tunnel, which will
encase the Line five pipelines between the Upper Peninsula and
the Lower Peninsula. It's not the only pipeline and tunnel
project happening in America, is it.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Tunnels are everywhere most of the time, we don't think
too much about them, and the number is growing now
because there are right now at least thirty major tunnel
projects underway in the country, totaling about fifty billion dollars.
So those are being built under cities, you know, through mountains,
underwater used for traffic, drinking water, storm water, so those

(06:43):
are needed. They're critical infrastructure. There's actually planned the tunnel
from the Nashville Airport to the downtown area. There's two
tunnels happening right now in Virginia. Around the world, there's
big projects. Norway's planning to build the world's longest subsea
tunnel and it's going to have a highway in it there.

(07:03):
So all these tunnels projects are happening. And and our tunnel,
of course, will be twenty feet wide with the pipeline
along one side of the tunnel, and then they'll be
room for other utilities to go inside it, potentially high
speed fiber cable.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Happy Thanksgiving from Michael Patrick Shields Away.

Speaker 5 (07:27):

We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
