Speaker 1 (00:01):
What's up everybody? Welcome back. It is MMA after Hours.
I'm Michael Carlisle, joined as always by Micah Franko.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Micah, how you doing, man? Dugging coffee and still fighting?
How about you? Bro?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
I too am drugging coffee. But I'm a lover, not
a fighter.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
So my fight is to stay awake. My fight is
to stay awake. It's not with actually any one in
particular besides my own narcolepsy.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Well, I mean, yeah, there's that. Please don't fall asleep
during the show.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
H I do. I almost insist that you don't wait
me for like three solid minutes. Give me the whole
ten count.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Come on, Oh, I'll give you the ten count. I'll
give you the ten.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Oh god, it'll be like a ten doll salute on
my head. I know how you'd wake me up exactly.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
You know how a fighter gets knocked out and they
hit the mat and it like wakes them back up.
I just beat the hell out of you until you
wake up.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
You know. We'll bring that back up here in a
moment about bringing you back away. Remind me of that
when we get to the fight night recap.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
All right, we'll do, we'll do. We do have a
lot to get to. We've got pay per view action
this weekend. Pretty big one too in UFC three nineteen
in Chicago. Dupe Let's A and Jim. If we'll get
to that in a bit. We'll look back at fight night.
We've got other stuff to talk about. But of course
the big news this week Micah and I don't know

(01:26):
that we have this outlet on any of our Bingo cards,
but UFC makes it official on Monday. They are headed
to Paramount Plus next year seven point seven billion dollars
over seven years. This is for all the numbered events
as well as the fight nights, and yes, with the

(01:47):
numbered events going to Paramount Plus, that means here in
the US the end of the pay per view model.
The numbered events will become part of your paramount subscription.
We can get into the details of the deal itself,
but right off the bat, just with that news, Micah,
this week is the greatest week in history for UFC
fans in my opinion, because for years and years we've

(02:10):
all complained about the price of pay per views going up.
They're going up. Oh my god, they're going up again.
They're going up again. Guess what with your paramount Plus subscription,
you get all the pay per views. Now, I think
that is a win for the fans.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
This is a huge win. The paywall goes down, and
to really think about it, for the most part, it's
the double paywall goes down because you were having to
get your Plus just to get to the opportunity to
buy the pay per views. So now you extinguish the
double paywall for the for these premium live events. Pointing

(02:48):
from their TKO Brotherren over there, this is, like you said,
a monumental step forward for fans, especially for the fans
that felt, well, I got to paint my pennies and
kind of decide which pay per view I'm gonna buy.
We think about the model UFC one, I believe was
somewhere between twenty five to maybe thirty dollars back in

(03:10):
the day on regular cable all the way to you
were paying eighty dollars. Now, great day for fans, huge.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Day for fans, and just for perspective again, this deal
is seven years, seven point seven billion dollars. Their last deal,
the one that expires at the end of the year
with ESPN, which was huge at the time, was also
seven years, one point five billion over the seven years.
So this is quite the increase for UFC.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
And fans rest to shirt, just like the move from
Spike to Fox, Fox to ESPN now ESPN over to
the Paramount family. The production team, the camera team, the perducers,
these are all UFC employees. So from the visual perspective

(04:06):
of what you get as an audience, for what you
get as a fan, that's not really going to change.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
The production. The majority of the production for events has
been produced in house by UFC, and I know and
I don't expect that to change. I know that's something
Dana White was always very big on, which is to
your point, while other than just the usual upgrades and
technology over time, no matter the network, no matter the

(04:35):
family of channels, Yeah, the look of the broadcast never changed.
And not just talking about the announcers to people you
see in front of the camera, but the behind the
camera you're gravity. Yeah, everything looks the same. I would
anticipate again, other than you know, enhancements due to improvements
and technology. Yeah, it's not going to look vastly different

(04:58):
and you don't want it to.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
And for people that are like wow, Paramount plus CBS.
If you're wondering about the story. Apparently this deal came together.
We're hearing in forty eight hours last Thursday, Paramount Plus
and sky Dance merged, and now you have this big conglomerate.

(05:23):
And then it went from where Paramount was apparently much
cheaper in these negotiations than any of us knew, where
they were in line to get some thirty fight nights.
And I guess we were looking at the number of
events going to Netflix at that point with the new CEO,

(05:43):
David Ellison in charge. It seemed like in that forty
eight hours, at least from everything I've read and heard,
that things completely changed to this full blowing deal as
it is. I don't know if you've seen anything to
differ that.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
I don't believe for a second this came together in
forty eight hours. The negotiations may have heated up over
the last forty eight hours and a deal gets hammered out.
I do think something that probably did push this forward
was the announcement last week with ESPN buying NFL Network,
NFL Network getting a what a ten percent stake in

(06:18):
ESPN and all that. Look, streaming is no longer the
wave of the future. Streaming is here, and you can
have all the great shows you want, but there's still
other than that, I've got to see it as soon
as it comes out. There's no demand to rush and
watch something the debuts on a stream Like me personally,

(06:43):
one of the things about streaming program I like to binge.
I want to knock out a season in two nights,
three nights. I don't like going back the weekend and
week out. So even when the new Sea will keep
it a paaramount, plus the new season of Tulsa King
will be coming out in a couple of months, I'll
wait and let that get about halfway three quarters through

(07:05):
the season before I start watching it. And then by
the time the season is done, I've called up and
I've been watched Binge, watched everything.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Live.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Sports is where it's at for streaming now, because that
is an immediate quality action unless you're busy. Nobody's like, oh,
I'll go back and watch that football game later. I'll
go back and watch that fight later. That's something you've
got to go watch right now, which is why ESPN
was interested in NFL Network. That's why you've got Netflix

(07:34):
doing WWE, ESPN with the pay per views with WWE,
but Prime with Football, Netflix, with football and all that.
The live sporting events for streams are huge right now.
Paramount Plus didn't want to get left behind. They saw

(07:55):
an opportunity. This is an audience that continues to grow
year in and year out. It's I don't want to
jinx it, but it's darn near bulletproof mica. So why
wouldn't you invest the money for something that's going to
keep people coming back? What forty one weeks out of
the year. You know they do have the rare weeks off,
but you've got the twelve or thirteen numbered events and

(08:17):
then all the fight nights. I believe the totals up
this year to forty one events. It'll be somewhere in
that neighborhood every year going forward. You absolutely if your
Paramount wanted to jump on the train here and get
something that's going to drive people to your product weekend
and week out.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
That was one of the statements I think made by
that new CEO, David Ellis Income what was it They
merged on Thursday Friday. He did an interview Friday. He said,
we need content. We have to add more content to
the platform. And like you said, now the UFC delivers
weekly content with the fan base, and at least from

(09:02):
the numbers that we got forty three live events a year,
and it looks like there's an opportunity where at least
once a quarter to I've heard a possible rumor that
it could be every numbered event we'll have something to
do with CBS, possibly where I don't know if that
means prelims going somewhere. Oh yeah, four tempole events a year,

(09:25):
more likely on big CBS. A lot of great news
for the UFC, for TKO, a lot of great news
for the fans in those announcements. A big platform, a
affordable platform, and an opportunity to grow the fan base

(09:46):
on a major channel that's already known for NCAA basketball
and NFL football.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Every event will be on Paramount, plus select events will
be on CBS. I think Dana White, in one of
his interviews after this deal came out, said they were
looking at something like four temp pole events, probably including
the often spoke about. We'll see if it actually happens
White House event next July fourth, celebrating the two hundred

(10:18):
and fiftieth anniversary of the United States, But that will
be one. But you've also got opportunities in the family
CBS Sports Network, You've got Spike is a part of
the Paramount family as well, so you've got different avenues
for different things. You and I were talking yesterday, Well,

(10:40):
what happens the Jail Sun and Daniel Cormier show. I
bet some version of it with at least one of
them winds up on CBS Sports Net at some point.
But you've got lots of opportunities, much like you did
with ESPN, but opportunities for your companion shows, your fight

(11:00):
analysis shows, and talking head shows and things like that.
So really love this deal for UFC and more so
for the fan. Look, UFC was gonna get their money
whomever they signed with from a fan standpoint, who were
tired of dropping eighty eighty five bucks or more after
fees and taxes and all that for pay per views

(11:21):
and having to decide which ones were really worth dropping
the money for and which ones you were gonna skip
or try to go to a sports bar or a
buddy's house or whatever to watch. That kind of goes
away now, and you know, for the price of your subscription,
you get all these events. Now, if you're a pro
wrestling fan, you're already kind of used to this with

(11:41):
the WWE model, who have gone away here in the
US from pay per views for quite a while now.
But I think, you know, from a fan standpoint, I
think this is huge and I don't think that can
be stated enough because for everyone who complained about the
prices of pay per views, Oh it's getting too expensive,
Well it just got a whole lot more affordable to

(12:02):
enjoy all your UFC thanks to this new deal between
TKO and Paramount.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
With pay per views going away, there's only one section
of society. I wonder if they're gonna miss it. Connor McGregor,
John Jones, Islama, Hasha, anybody that used to in their
contract have this little thing called pay per view points.

(12:31):
I wonder how that financial incentive to broaden your exposure
to get people to buy the product, how that now
translates to this new streaming non pay per view model.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Well, specifically the three names you mentioned, I don't believe
one of them ever fights in UFC again. There's a
decent chance two of them don't ever fight at UFC again.
In all seriousness, it's a very fair question because there
are some fighters that have that clause. I don't. Obviously,
that's gonna have to be renegotiated. I don't know if
you convert that over to number of views or things

(13:09):
like that, or you're just like, screw it, We'll just
give you X amount of dollars extra something like that.
But that don't have to be worked out for sure.
But I mean, other than that, there's not a lot
you can really find default with this deal. Now a
couple of other things that'll be interesting to see how

(13:29):
it shakes out. Nowhere in any of these announcements does
it mention anything about the Ultimate Fighter, Dana White's Contender series,
or anything like that. Does that wind up becoming part
of the package, It certainly could. Does that wind up
getting packaged with other TKO properties and going somewhere else?

(13:51):
I think that's possible as well. Help maybe it winds
up on fight Pass. I don't know, But you do
still have a couple of UFC properties out there that
at the moment are still available.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
From what I've heard. From what I've read, zoofa Boxing,
TKO Boxing will have an independent contract on its own
and it's going to do its own thing. I wouldn't
be surprised though, if the rest of this rode to
UFC Contender Series, Ultimate Fighter that all gets packaged and
ends up in the same destination, and I think there's

(14:30):
four likely suitors at that point. We're talking about Paramount
Plus adding it the UFC YouTube channel, UFC Fight Pass,
or quite possibly ESPN Plus keeping a little bit of
extra MMA content that's involved with TKO, because we know,

(14:51):
not really for this show, but for Pro Wrestling After Hours,
we'll be getting into the new direct to consumer deal
with the TKO product w So I wouldn't leave them
completely out of the thought of keeping some of those
UFC properties.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
I would be very surprised if ESPN keeps any of
the UFC properties. Now, look, you're right, they just signed
a big deal with WWE, another TKO property, so it's
probably not like there's a ton of bad blood between
TKO and ESPN. But if I'm ESPN and I either

(15:29):
got out bid or decided I didn't want USC any
however that shook out, I don't know that I want
to come back and take lesser than UFC. However, if
you're a company that does want a little piece of that,
that hasn't had that nugget before, I do think it's enticing.
I just don't know unless, like you were talking about,

(15:50):
you're specifically looking just for the content. I don't know
how appealing that is to ESPN, when if you had
really wanted it, you could have thrown a boatload of
money and kept the whole kitten kaboodle.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Does it hurt at all that, even from tko CEOs.
I've seen quotes this week that say pay per view
is dead, it's old, it's antiquated. We all agree, but
they're still selling four more this year.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
No, because that's how you well, all that's true. It
is old and antiquated. That's that's the only way you've
got to watch those four events for the rest of
the year, and that's what you've been conditioned to doing.
So No, I don't. I don't think it hurts hell.
It might even help, because if you're a consumer, you're like, well, hell,
I know, I don't have to worry about this next year.

(16:46):
I kind of like all four of these events. I'm
gonna get them all, so in a weird way, it
might actually help. But realistically, I don't think it hurts
it all.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
No, I'm januine PFL You're the only calmbat sport on
ESPN at least right now, unless we're going to go
back to last week's conversation about pillow fighting, because no
boxing entity has yet to actually come up with a

(17:18):
deal with ESPN, and I don't know if pfl's deal
is running out yet.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Uh, that's what I was trying to look now, I
don't know how long pfl's deal is. In twenty twenty three,
it was a multi year deal, but I didn't say
how many years. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Bfl's deal was also coming up. I feel like ESPN
there would be some kind of smoke signal. I think
that their multi year deal I had read was for
like five years, so I think they might have a
year or two, maybe three actually left on the chat,
maybe two I think left on ESPN could be could be.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know that ESPN once
that deal ends, stays in the in the combat sports world.
Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
I don't. I still haven't taken them out of the
possibility of well, we didn't do UFC, we got out.
Bit for that is ZUFA boxing, is TKO boxing really
out of the realm of possibility. I wouldn't. I wouldn't
count that egg before it hatches.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
I would agree with you on that because, look, I
don't know how much money, hypothetically speaking, bringing in Contender
Series and Ultimate Fighter would do for a streaming platform
unless it's packaged with other things, which is why I
don't think ESPN would be interested in that.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
But the t k O.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Boxing is a completely different thing because that will draw
viewers that will draw money. So yes, I think they
would be interested in that for sure.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Nine ninety nine I believe is the base number or
is it eight ninety nine for paramount.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Fucking I know I get by Walmart Plus, so I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
I believe your commercial package is nine ninety nine everybody.
And if you don't want commercials and you'd like to
have the ability to watch showtime, it's twelve ninety nine.
New day is to be able to watch the UFC
in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Yeah, And by the way, and we won't spend a
lot of time on as it relates to this podcast.
If you want to hear more on this, you can
check out our other podcast, Pro Wrestling After Hours. But
this past week, TKO signs the deal with ESPN for
WWE pay per views one point six billion over five years.

(19:53):
They do this deal with paramount seven years and seven
point seven billion dollar. What a bad week to own
stock in TKO or to be on the board of directors.
If you're a fan of UFC, you have to be
salivating because, oh my god, all this money I have

(20:14):
spent on pay per views, I don't have to do
that anymore. This even pay per views I kind of
like to see. But dropping that money and the one
in a month is a much better I got to
see it. You don't have to make those difficult choices anymore.
You just get them all. Now, this is a win
for fans, obviously, it's a win for the company with

(20:36):
the money they're bringing in. Now, I've already seen it
brought up. I kind of got a feeling you want
to bring it up to so I'll tee up. Does
this benefit the fighters?

Speaker 2 (20:46):
I had no inkling to bring those with you at all. Good, Hi,
did not want to have that conversation with you at all.
I'm good on that question.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Okay, I will say this on that and this is
going to make me sound like an asshole and uncompassionate
for the purposes of this deal, the fighters don't matter.
Now that's not to say the fighters don't matter, because
they do, because you don't have a product without the fighters.
But TKO isn't running a charity here. They're out to

(21:16):
make their money.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Now.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Could the fighters get together and say, hey, we got
this big deal, Now we need a little bit bigger
cut of the pie. Sure, but until they actually unionize,
which I'm certain will never happen, that probably ain't gonna
go very far. I would argue. With exposure and now
every pay per view fans can have access to for

(21:39):
the price of their paramount plus subscription, it benefits the
fighters that way. Are the fighters going to see a
bigger cut of the pie? I don't know. My guess
is TKAIT is just going to hand out that money. Now.
Maybe they increase the fight night bonuses and things like
that and stuff like that. But I don't see TKO

(22:03):
calling up the fighters and say, hey, we just made
all this money, we want to give you more. What
do you think, Yeah, I don't think that happens.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
The announcement was great for TKL, the investors, the shareholders,
and the fans, and.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
If you don't like it, you can always go somewhere else,
see how that works out for you. And again that
sounds cold and callous. I'm just looking at this from
the business standpoint. If I'm a fighter, that's a terrible answer.
If I'm a fan of fighters, that's a terrible answer.
So I'm I'm I don't want to sound like I'm
just dismissing it. I'll fuck those guys tough shit, because

(22:41):
I'm not. I'm actually very compassionate. My point is, I
don't think during these negotiations TKO gave one thought about, humm,
how does this benefit the fighters? Nor should they that
they're looking at this all right, best deal for the company,
which does benefit the fighters, because the more solid the
come but he is, you know, the better it is

(23:03):
for the fighters. So but yeah, they didn't go into
this same How can we help the fighters when we
signed this deal?

Speaker 2 (23:11):
You said it best? Do you only have leverage? And
this just doesn't We could take this away from fighting.
We could take this all the way today. Labors, Yeah,
if you don't have a union, you don't have a
lect to stand on. The fighters don't want to unionize,
The company doesn't have to give them anything. The company again,
did a great thing for fans here and a great

(23:32):
thing for themselves for sure.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
Anything else on the deal you wanted to talk about
before we move belong?

Speaker 2 (23:39):
No, No, I think that hits all the all the keynotes.
We know who it benefited, we know when it goes effect,
we know where it'll be. A lot of the news
was great coming out of it, and they gave us
all of the fine points. Yeah, be looking forward to
seeing Dana White on CBSH you now a lot more often,

(24:01):
I'm expecting.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
I saw Monday Dana was on Pat McAfee talking about
the deal. Isn't that a little awkward? Like, I know,
Pat McAfee owns his own show, but it's part of
the ESPN family. It's broadcast on ESPN, and there's Dana
on ESPN trumpeting leaving ESPN for a competitor. I just

(24:25):
felt like that was a little odd.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Right, you know. I was seeing some independent reporters jump
from ESPN spots to Fox spots, and I thought that
was kind of odd. It's a whole wacky day in
the media game. It's a little odd, but it's fine.
I guess I don't know what to make of most
of that.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Yeah, all right, micah UFC Fight night this past week
at the Apex, Dude Anthony Hernandez, the main Eve gets
the submission win over Roman Dalite. I enjoyed the hell
out of this fight. I thought it was a lot
of fun in a big win for Hernandez.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
It was a nasty, gritty, mean, downright disgusting performance from
Anthony Hernandez, who did everything to disrespect Roman delieds and
I mean in the essence of the fight, not like
actually taking it outside and threatening people and doing something wild,
but just walking down having no regard for any of

(25:29):
the Leeds's abilities, the faints, the fake This had the
Leeds's mind racing, This constant pressure was on top of him.
He just wanted the ability to breathe. And then, even
though they were not pretty fluffy, Hernandez, this keeps crashing
into de Leeds where he's falling down. I don't even
know if half of those were takedowns or if it

(25:51):
was just like the American gladiators when they used to
jounce with those big old sticks and they were just
kind of bop. It seemed like they were doing that,
but without the sticks, they were just colliding into each
other the Leeds was just kind of grumbling, and you
don't expect this from a man that looks like he's
cut out of granite. And to his credit, Fluffy Hernandez
not so fluffy anymore. The guy was actually rocking some abs.

(26:12):
You could see during the fight. He's come into his
own it seems like technically aggressively. He blamed a lackluster
performance on illness and antibiotics against Brendan Allen, and seeing
the way he just dog walked Roman DLDS, I tend
to agree with him in that echelon that hey, I
just wasn't feeling well that day, And to see the

(26:36):
efficient game planning where he consistently wrestled the lids and
anytime they got into a true grappling predicament he strayed
away from the leglocks and made the Leeds consistently stand up.
You saw the Leeds a just demoralized from having to
put out so much energy. That was the best performance
of Anthony Hernandez's career, and that is the kind of

(26:59):
performance that if Kyle Bihoalio and Nasardina Mavov do not
put on a show in France, I think you could
see Hernandez jump into a world title fight.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
I was gonna ask you that he moves up three
spots to seven in the rankings again for what that's worth,
But yeah, depending on what happens, I could see Anthony
hernana is a leap frogging his way to a possible
title shot.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
This is all a fashion show. It's almost funny that
this week, and specifically today when the episode drops, we
have the finale of The Ultimate Fighter. Bring that up
again later, and we have the first of Dana White's
Contender series. Like all of this isn't Dana White's Contender
Series to get to a UFC title shot. Like every fight,
you're not out there trying to impress the boss. And

(27:46):
I mean Anthony Hernandez went out there and strut is
stuff like no one else. Those impression points to Dana
White through the roof. And if these guys don't go
out there and grab them by the horns of the
middleweight division, I think you can see her Nandez jump
over some names you wouldn't expect. Like I understand he

(28:07):
sits behind RDR in the rankings, but you could tell
me that just in a fan poll, which would mean
a lot on social media. I think Hernandez's performance garnered
more fans and more adelation than RDR, just from the
nastiness and a real naked joke where you're pulling a
guy back, and that was something like my older brother

(28:28):
used to do to me. It was disgusting.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yep, your co main event. That was another fun When
Steve Versa gets the unanimous decision over Ode Osbourne, a
couple of top ten bantam weights, what'd you think of
that one?

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Steve Versa is scary close to becoming dominic Reyes. He
is fighting that off as much as he can, but
he got clip knocked down. There's a hard argument. Did
he really win that second round? I think he did
with the diverse striking, but I've seen a couple people
out there. This wasn't a split decision. The grappling gets
it done, Ursa get surviving in a deep flyweight division.

(29:07):
Odie Osborne. There are just some guys like Odie Osbourne
and Angela Hill. The record is so deceiving compared to
the skills. Even though on this night, Angela Hill did
not look to have the firepower. Had the air artillery
coming out of ismund Lescindo and she gets that victory.
It was the bigger strikes, It was the takedowns in
the third round. Andre Feeley continues to be in enigma,

(29:31):
just like Christian Rodriguez is turning into one. It was
the split decision. I feel like the judges got it right.
Did you have any problem with it?

Speaker 1 (29:39):
No, none, whatsoever.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
I agree, great third round from c Rod, but not
enough early on. We also had a split in the
g Matsumoto Miles john Fire. I'm gonna go and say again,
I think the judges got it right. A great first
round for Miles Jones, but he just wasn't able to
keep up the offense in the way that Matsumoto's actually

(30:03):
increased as the fight went on. That Brazilian definitely a
prospect to keep an eye on. Did you have a
problem with that decision? I did not.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
I it's a lot more fun, I guess when we
can argue about this sometimes, but when you're right, you're right,
and I'm with you. I think the judges got both
of those right.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Christian Leroy Duncan coming over from the UK, many people
have him tabbed as a super product, and it looked
like Octagon Jitters getting used to the jet lag. There
were several things that he had to get comfortable with.
Now he's out there fainting, fainking. Did you see how
the inside leg kicks set up the spinning elbow? My gosh,

(30:44):
your boy, Eric Anders and not your boy actually, but
just love that nickname. Right. He was big, he's strong.
We knew that he had to slow down cold in
the clinch. The elbow that Duncan landed in there made
it almost impossible both for Andrews to want to clinch,
and then in space he was a sitting target. CLD

(31:05):
is now showing us all that hype and why people
were so excited about him coming over. When we jump
on down to the pre limbs, I got one big
old word and I need your reaction from when you
saw it. Rampage. Yeah, Elijah Smith going all hercules. It's

(31:27):
the seven fight win streak in all two in a
row in the UFC. The flying knee gets him into
the grappling entanglement. He reserses the position, fights off a
shit ton of the missions, and then when he's caught
in one, he just goes all legend status with a
power bomb. And this is where I wanted to bring
up something with you quickly. Should a power bomb be legal?

(31:49):
Strikes to the back of the head? R and put
your power bomb a dude on the back of the
head and it's gold.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
If you can do it, then hell yes, this should
be legal. Look, I'd never really thought about it before
because it's not something that's all that common, but it's
a fair point. You're basically just picking somebody up and
dropping them on the back of.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Their head and shout out, Joscelyn Edwards, that's three in
a row. And then Priscilla Cashuera goes all Tom Brady
thinking she's just playing quarterback, just wanting to throw bombs
for getting this As a two way sport, you gotta
play defense, a three piece combination, a hard right hand,

(32:32):
and it's a three fight win streak for Joscelyn Edwards,
who possibly had one of the most vicious female KOs
we'll see all year.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
That was impressive.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
That was definitely impressive. Joscelyn Edwards from winning a King
of the Cage title, winning an LFA title, she didn't
have the start to her UFC career that people expected.
Now she's filling out a lot of the whole in
her game and starting to come together and look like
a real threat for sure.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
For sure. Hey, real, real quick, curious that the opening
fight the Brundage fight. Do you have a problem with
that decision?

Speaker 2 (33:12):
I thought it was gonna go Brundage's way because after
getting buzzed at a point in the first round, he
came back with the wrestling the second round. I thought
he actually landed the harder shots and I could see
him getting it with the wrestling in the third. I
was a little surprised, but I think it was just

(33:34):
par for the course of an enigma career that Cody
Brundage has had because he just can't go out there
and have a fight. There's always got to be a
no contest, a controversial scorecard. The guy just cannot get
away from this weird spotlight.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Yeah, I thought Brundage one. I didn't have a huge
problem with it, though. It is what it is. I
want to be in that situation.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Don't let it go to the judges exactly. Don't let
it go to the judges. Not letting it go to
the judges. Well, that's what happened most of the night
at BKFC Fight Night Edmonton. Also Saturday night. In the
main event, Drew Stuve gets the first round knockout over
Alfredo Santiago. It was a left hook for the first knockdown.

(34:23):
A straight right hand gets the job done. The lightweight
division also has to be highlighted from what it did
on Saturday night in Canada because Chad Lucanis goes to
three and zero vicious body puncher, three knockdowns. Eventually, the
right hook gets the job done with one second left
on the clock in the first round, and Hassan Augaren

(34:48):
runs his record to four and h one punch. This
overhand right hook is all it needed to take care
of Zach by Now, who is done twenty two seconds
into the first round. Full results over on the website
for both the BKFC and UFC finights.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
You got some fight announcements for us Micah.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
We Do and Real Quick with an announcement outside of
the UFC Martin Bunde, it made news that UFC did
not resign him at a seven and one mark. He
is returning back to Octagon in Prague, where he had
previously been and he will challenge will Flurry for their
heavyweight title. A big spectacle at their most recent show

(35:32):
of him signing the contract. We also have an adjustment
as Rinya Taitsura is out of the August twenty second
Road to UFC fight that is still considered a UFC fight,
and instead Nijar Jarrel Tuje Umbrella is taking on Terrence Satcher.

(35:52):
Marco Tulo is out and the next day Michelle Perreira
will be taking on Kyle Doc at UFC Shanghai on
August twenty third, So twenty second twenty third you have
the UFC Shanghai Road to UFC and the Fight Night
both having UFC fights. Jimmy Crue versus Ivan Ursulan and

(36:14):
Junior Tafa versus Ebo Oslan are both light heavyweight additions
to the Paris part fight Night on September twenty seventh.
Ramiz Brahei Ma versus Austin Vounderfode is added to the
October fourth UFC three twenty card. The big announcement for

(36:34):
the week comes is Charles ola Vera will headline the
October eleventh UFC fight Night in Rio against top also
fellow top ranked lightweight Ralphie alf Diseased, hop Ii alf
Balio versus Clayton Carpenter and Vicente Luke versus Santiago Ponzanibbio

(36:56):
has also been added to that card. Carlisle, what do
you think about Olivera versus Phyzeve.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
I don't like this fight for a phazive. I think
it'll be a fun fight, though.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
I think it's gonna be a fun fight. I'm not
sure which one I don't like the fight for more
for ze looked really good and Chris against ballha mondays
Olivera has come so far. We know he's the more
dangerous grappler. It's gonna be a fun one. Not sure
if this is the main event, but the UFC is
returning to Vancouver October eighteenth for a fight night. Marlon

(37:32):
Vera amins A Hobby has been announced for that card.
Most likely, I'm guessing that one's going to be the
main event, and Bruno Sofa versus Hung Sung Park Jacquelin
le Moore versus Mazuke In a way is our last
announcement of the week, and that one is for UFC
three twenty one on October twenty fifth, and that leads

(37:53):
us up to a busy week, very busy.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Indeed, of course we've got UFC in action in Chicago,
UFC three nineteen. But we've got PFL this week as well, right.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
The PFL PFL nine. You have three world titles on
the line on this main card, Marcelli Alvis Justin Wetzel.
So you have a striking Brazilian versus a American wrestler
in your bannonweight finals, Jenna Bishop outstanding Brazilian jiu jitsu

(38:25):
taking on the tenacious also grappler and just rugged Liz Carmouch,
the former Bellator champion in our women's flyweight finals. And
Gauzi Rajie Baba versus Alfi Davis in a lightweight fight
as good as anywhere that you'll find in the main event.
Raji Baba, if you remember, just tore a hole through

(38:47):
Kevin Lee to get to this final. Alfy Davis has
had some spectacular knockouts this season. So that's your PFL
on Friday night. Also Friday Night, you get some LFA
action with vacant light heavy and middleweight titles on the line.
There two middle unbeaten middleweights dealing for that one, and
a pair of UFC vts in Devin Clark and Beavon

(39:09):
Lewis will battle. Also at LFA two fourteen.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Then on Saturday, UFC three nineteen Live from Chicago, ten
pm Eastern, ESPN plus your main event, Micah Middleweight title
on the line. Dric Is dupless A defends against o'sby
chim iv A. Dude, this one, it's It's been a

(39:35):
while since I've looked forward to a fight as much
as I'm looking forward to this way. I think it's
gonna be really interesting to see what plays out here.
The champ is a slight underdog, and I totally get why,
But I think if you're counting dupless A out, you
might be doing yourself a disservice.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Question. Okay, if you're hypothetically thinking about this, how many
rounds into the fight do you think it changes before
duplus A is the hypothetical favorite, Like you want to
tell me Chief is the favorite in the fight. I'll
understand that. But I feel like somewhere around the end
of the second round, I believe that becomes a duplus

(40:17):
A fight.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
I was gonna say middle of the third on Yeah,
so same general area. Yeah, the longer it goes, I
think that the more it definitely benefits dupless A. But
we'll see if GYF can get it done early.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
In my mind, it's like no one's been able to
dominate duplus A like that, no one's ran him over.
Kind of said the same thing about Whittaker. Now that
Whittaker victory, I'm not saying it's marred in any way,
but there is a little bit of superhuman strength, you know,
that feeling is taken away from Chi Maef when Whittaker's like,

(40:56):
I probably should have had this dental taking care of
a long time ago, So maybe he doesn't have the
face crushing scary power we all thought he did to
just rip Amand's head into But still I think that
Hams team I have this sight at Terrence mc kenny
is the most dangerous first round fighter in the UFC,

(41:18):
and that's something that DU plus A has to navigate around.
It was very telling in the countdown that the DU
plus A camp is we don't want to run from
the wrestling. We want to beat him in the wrestling.
I don't know if that's going to be possible. I
think running from it's probably a better idea, but it's
not like we've seen t I have just run through everybody.

(41:41):
Gilbert Burns was able to keep the fight standing able
to make it a war, and if du plus A
is able to do that, I give him a real
good shot in this fight. His experience, his five round experience,
even that he had in KSW, the high level kick
boxing that duplus A was exposed to before coming over

(42:04):
to the UFC. If you're going on the Chi may
F side, I feel like you're saying this is a
once in a lifetime wrestler. His explosiveness, his intensity. He
does pack a real punch of a middleweight. He is
a tenacious, opportunistic finisher. It's not like we've really seen

(42:25):
Chi may Have hurt in a fight. So it's so
hard to see which one of these forces will be
able to come overcome the other one, especially when you
take into account the thought that we have seen du
plus A in late rounds being able to dig deep
and with Chi may Have, we haven't really fully seen
that in a five round fight.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
Yeah, it's interesting every On the one hand, every time
dup plus A fights, I see something in him that
impresses me right like that. I knew maybe he had
it in him, but I wasn't really expecting it. The
flip side, what's Chim I have done in any fight,

(43:08):
they give you any reason to doubt him either, So
I think it's really interesting. I totally get why Chim
I Have it is a slight favorite here, and I'd
be really tempted to lean that way, But I'm gonna
give the champ the benefit of the doubt here until
somebody can beat him. I'm kind of interested to see
what dupless A can do on Saturday. I think I'm

(43:30):
gonna kind of lean that way, Micah.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
I feel like duplus a, it's not just his takedown defense,
it's causing damage to deter the continual shots from Team
I HAVE. If duplus A is able to land and
land early, I think we'll see him be successful. But
if Team IF is just able to blitz in on
the leg with his explosiveness, I think it becomes a

(43:56):
long knife for the South Africa.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
Uh. You could be right on that. That'll be interesting
to see how that plays out. Your co main event,
Aaron Pico, making his UFC debut, takes on Laron Murphy.
What do you think about that one?

Speaker 2 (44:11):
This is an interesting step up in competition. Laron Murphy
is easily the most technical, the most thoughtful problem that
has ever been in front of Aaron Pico. It feels
like to me, and this may be an over simplification,
but for the most of his career, Aaron Pico has
been able to just walk through and tear a hole

(44:34):
through the majority of his opponents. We know that in
the Bellator days, we were long awaiting this fight with
Patricio Football that never came together. Think about this, the
last three wins James Gonzalez, I don't know who that is.
Arel Carmalo, he is very serviceable, very tough. Henry carralis

(44:57):
also very serviceable, tough those two first round finishes. That's
what said. The maturation of Aaron Pico led us to
Patricio pitt Bull. I don't know if he's ready for
a guy that's gonna be as mindful as well versed
as Laron Murphy. We're on the other side for Lawron Murphy.

(45:19):
Now you've got a different kind of wrestler in front
of you. Now you've got a guy that has the
Josh Emmett level of wrestling in his back pocket. But Mike, actually,
dare use that shit. Aaron Pico has to mix his
game up because a big puncher is not gonna worry
Lauren Murphy. Murphy was already in front of Barbosa Ega Emmett.

(45:42):
If Aaron Pico is not diverse, it's gonna be a
long night for him.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
I think you're right, it'll be interesting. Jeff Neil Carlos
Protest Top twelve Welterweights.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
First off, I'm just really happy to see that they
read this fight. It was one that I was looking
forward to, disappointed when Neil got injured, and I think
that there is an opportunity, because of Neil's willingness to
take one, to give one his ultimate confidence, in his athleticism,
in his power, that we have something special, and not
to mention that we've seen there are holes in the

(46:19):
game now of Carlos Protest where protes I wonder if
he stops and to not be so light. I don't
need to see how much of the playfulness gone from
his game, because it was part of him. But you
could stop fucking around so much and be a little
more focused. I wonder what happens here. I still think
that this is a good fight for Protest, but it's

(46:40):
a really really stiff test that can go the wrong
way quickly.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
Yep. Sticking with the main card, Jared cannon Ere and MVP.

Speaker 2 (46:52):
This fight could be really exciting or it could be
really boring. Jared cannon Here has had points in his
career where he's been called out for be being too
economical with his strikes, for waiting, for being two gun shy,
for looking for the perfect moment. Well, on the other side,
MVP is a counter striker who showed he is not

(47:13):
going to attack until the moment is perfect. MVP struggled
with eing Gary's wrestling and takedown game. You've got to
assume that at middleweight, in a middleweight that used to
be a heavyweight who's one of the more powerful guys
pound for pound on the roster, Jery Kannier is going

(47:33):
to look to get into the clinch and shook big
shots to the body. We've seen him be able to
do it before. Space is MVP's friend because he is
the faster fighter in this equation. Jered Cannoneer has to
find a way to shrink that space, put MVP on
the cage or on his back to a place where
he can operate. It's going to be interesting to see

(47:54):
if that cannon here can be as mindful and effective
because we saw a shar Bullet, who just wanted to
go technique for technique in space was no match for MVP,
and I fear that that would be the same equation
if Jared Cannoneer is not more aggressive, if he waits around,
like he said, a tendency to do MVP will light

(48:15):
him up.

Speaker 1 (48:16):
We open up the pay per view Micah with Flyways.
Tim Elliott takes on Kayasakura.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
This should be an interesting fight as well.

Speaker 2 (48:25):
This is an opportunity for Kayasakara. This is a true debut.
You got the ragdolling debut. You got the money was
all on the table, you and Chips all in against
Pantosia and the way you got submitted. The UFC said,
I don't know if you like wrestling so much. I
don't know if you're that tenacius of a grappler. If
you're not, well, fuck you, because here comes Tim Elliott.

(48:49):
This guy is going to get in on the legs.
He's going to be all offense in your face. Truth
be told, did you remember that Tim Elliott was on
the UFC roster?

Speaker 1 (48:59):
If if I'm being completely honest.

Speaker 2 (49:01):
No, because we haven't seen him in the octagon since
twenty twenty three, a win over Suma Darci that was
a first round submission due to arm triangle. We know
that there's been a couple things in the personal life,
with the separation of a spouse and a dysfunctional team.

(49:23):
There's been a couple things that have affected Tim Elliott,
but he's always an entertaining fighter, a guy that has
overcome when the chips are down. His activity and his
relentlessness may be a problem for Kayastakara, who wants to
be in space, who wants to make this look pretty,
But you cannot forget Asakara with those flying knees. He

(49:45):
was also close to even landing one on Pantosia. Osakara
is one strike away from a knockout at every moment.
This is a far enough reduction in quality of opponent
that it's a solid opportunity for Osacar. But Elliott is
tough enough to fuck up anybody's hype.

Speaker 1 (50:04):
The pre Limbs ESPN ESPN Plus eight pm Eastern Time
on Saturday, your featured pre lim Oh, we get King Green.
I can't say that we get Bobby Green in action, Micah,
I just can't call.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
It Bobby King Green. All right?

Speaker 1 (50:21):
Fair enough fair enough.

Speaker 2 (50:23):
I gotta use the king is in the nickname still.
I'm sorry, Bro, I just unless like we're talking about
London and kind of making fun of the king and
Queen hierarchy. You can't call somebody king, sorry, but King
Bobby Green and Diego Paheta someone get a knocked out.
That's really what I feel here. They're both powerful. There's

(50:44):
a lot of aggression in both fighters. We know that
Bobby Green hands down based on reflexes, He's gonna come
in trash talking, aggressive, throwing his combinations, booking to lamb
finishing them with leggigs. On the other side, Diego Faheta is,
to I believe, look to be the counter striker in this.
He's gonna want Bobby Green to come out of him.

(51:06):
I wouldn't be surprised though, if Fahea has to go first,
look for the counters and then the knockout comes second.
You know what I mean, Draw the punches out of
your opponent and then look to counter with something heavy.
I feel like the takedown is going to be a
secondary option for Fajeda. Most likely this one plays out
on the feat with someone going to sleep. Because for
as much power as they both have. Both guys have

(51:28):
had enough stumbles and knocked out of losses at this
point in their career where I don't think they're as
sturdy we'd say as their prime versions.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
What else's on the pre limbs and early prelims stand
out for you, Mikah, Well, we've.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Got Chase the dream Hooper taking on an ultra athletic
Alexander Hernandez. We've loved the maturation, the nastiness, the assertiveness
that's come out of Chase Souper, how his physicality, how
his athleticism, how he's kind of matured in his the
zeke and then also just become that mumuch more aggressive

(52:03):
and his striking has started to come together. It's in
dangerous proposition, though, to take on in alex Fernandez, who
I always feel one fifty five is his best division.
He packs a big punch in this weight class. He
is ultra athletic, so that is going to be really entertaining.
Not to mention you get the assault and Rosie Boye

(52:23):
versus Brian battle at one eighty five. Both guys we're
not right for one seventy could not make the weight class,
could not perform at their best Rosie Boye a big
punch at one eighty five and a tenacious grappling game
where Brian Battle has just had this maturation. We're much
in the way of Chase Hooper. He's become nastier, prittier, grimier,

(52:45):
and I think there's a lot more upside when we
talk about Brian Battle. But if the focus is off,
if there's a too much cockiness that you can just
walk through, Rosie Boye, Rosie Boyev will take advantage of it.
It's ridiculous to think about how much experience. He has.
Not much to say about this fight, but a Bali

(53:05):
Idris versus Joseph Morales highlight that it is our Ultimate
Fighter flyweight finale, and as this episode is dropping tonight,
we do have the final episode of the season from
the Ultimate Fighters, so after the episode you will know
who is meeting in the welterweight finals. So we will

(53:26):
have the bull card from USC three to nineteen official
at the end of the sevening.

Speaker 1 (53:32):
Awesome anything else, Micah, we need to hit.

Speaker 2 (53:34):
On real quick. If you're in the Denver, Colorado area
Saturday and you want to get out to see some fights,
or you got Vice TV, maybe one or two screen it.
There is BKB our friends from the Try Gone BKB
forty four Denver Brawl to Taddy Harrez, the women's lightweight

(53:55):
champion defense her title against super lightweight Champion Courtney Cameron,
who is dropping down looks to become a two belt champion. You.
Also on the card, we'll see the BKB debut a
former bk FC six and zero unbeing first round knockout
artist Alberto Blast steps into the triagon.
