Nel 2022, Trainwreck: Woodstock ’99 è stato il primo documentario Netflix a dare il titolo a quella che oggi è una vera e propria serie documentaristica antologica e tematica: Trainwreck (in it. disastro ferroviario o, meglio, deragliamento). Documentari dedicati a raccontare eventi che, partendo normalmente, in modo talvolta simpatico o curioso, finiscono per andare surrealmente storti. A diventare, cioè, un vero e proprio grottesco disastro. Che a volte, purtroppo, ha anche tragici risvolti.
Qui raccontiamo quattro titoli della saga documentaristica: il primo, Woodstock '99, e i più recenti Astroworld, The Real Project X, Poop Cruise. Il trait d’union tra queste diverse opere è il tentativo – a volte ironico, a volte macabro – di interrogarsi su ciò che accade quando ‘la macchina dell’evento’ sembra perdere il controllo. Per superficialità, avidità, imprudenza… O anche solo per pura disconnessione dalla realtà.
