Crystal Clear Destiny. That's episode thirtyfour for those of you following the Japanese
version. We know it's been awhile since we've had a classic Moonstar episode,
but I personally can't think of abetter one to get back into things

with, So let's not waste anymore time and just dive straight into our
coverage one of I think the firstseason's most compelling episodes, Moonstar starts.
Now, well, I know youhave a bunch of stuff to update us

on with, like interviews and stuff, but before we get to that,
I just want to say thank youagain for bringing rhet to the show,
because I feel like that was agreat conversation we had with him, and
I'm really happy with how those episodesturned out. We got two out of

the one. It was a longconversation and the fun thing was almost I
would say like fifty percent of itwas just us being fans of sailor Moon.
So yeah, I thought it wasstill pretty both like LGBT oriented but
also about the show, and Ifeel like all kinds of fans could enjoy
it. And I also like whatwe did at the end, because I

think it'll be really interesting to hearhow that sounds next year, to see
where we're all at, you know, in that regard. Um. So

saw his account and I noticed thatevery other like Sailor moon fan artist that

I've mutually followed me and followed himtoo, and I just hadn't seen his
account before, and so I justDMed him and complimented him, and that's
how it started. I guess that'show things go these days. I feel

guess was the most significant thing asthe two interviews I did, because I
know that the last time we wereon here was before I did then or
I don't remember if it was itwas before, because I think in the

hundredth which we mentioned on the Facebook. Congratulations by the way again, Yeah,
thanks, Yeah, And so let'sstart with that one. What was
that like? That was with KeithSilverstein, who he's been a big name
and both mostly anime but anime andlike general voiceover stuff since the early two

thousands. Um, He's He's,He'ssoka and Hunter Hunter gen Lee and Gunshan
Impact m Kimmy Marrow and Naruto theprotagonist and several other characters in the Persona
franchise, um Stark and Bleach,Um a lot of other stuff, and

then he plays Uh doctor Tomo andthe Um the re dub of Sailor Moon.
He's one of my favorite villains,so I'm excited for getting to hear
his version of him when we getthere. And also the other characters I
probably would know were the Narajo characterand then the Bleach I didn't see all

of but I had a friend wholoved it, so I saw part of
it, okay, so I probablywould know him from there. What do
you think his most popular characters are? Probably he sook out an Hunter Hunter
and John Lee and Genshan impact atleast it's it's his most popular character,
like since Genshan has been out rightand what was if you could pick one

thing from the interview, like afavorite moment, what comes to mind?
I guess probably when we were justtalking about his early anime roles, for
stuff that I grew up with,or like stuff that is still my favorite
from back then, because since hedoesn't really get to talk about that very
much or you know, meet peoplethat know what that is, that's something

that I think Susan brought up aswell. In these interviews, you go
really deep into these people's career andyou bring up stuff all out of the
time that in interviews these days peopleprobably don't ask about because it's all about
the current project, or maybe theyjust don't know about it. And I
love that they enjoy that, youknow, and it's sort of a fun

moment for them. So I lovethat you got to do that again with
him. Tell us about interviewing thevoice of Fish. I yeah, that
was really that was really fun.That was the That was the following day
after I interviewed Keith Um, soit was on on that on that Tuesday.
That was that was that went alittle bit longer, like I think

ten or fifteen minutes longer than Keithsdid. Uh. Yeah, that was.
That was great. We'd most ofit was I would say probably like
I think almost a half hour ofit or like twenty five minutes of it
was about Fish, I uh.And there were several things that he mentioned,

but just that because he's he's twentynine um and he said that Super
Supers was the series that he firstsaw to become acquainted with Sailor Moon back
then, and just like just likea lot of other people I've talked to
that are better in the redub.He auditioned for several characters um for for
(08:15):
that particular season, and then theyhe almost got Helios, but then they
said that they that they liked hisfish I'm more uh and um. He
said that he of course based itoff of the Japanese performance like most dubs
want people to do, but umin a way, he was also imbuing
(08:39):
the original like female voiced fish Im as well, so he brought like
he wanted to bring both the bothelements of that to the character this time.
I think that was a really smartchoice on his part, because,
as we talked about fish I recently, that is one of the more gender
(09:01):
queer or non binary leaning characters naturallyin the show. Whether or not the
voice was a female or a maledoing it, it's just visually and with
like the choices that are made bydress and the way that the character is
portrayed. Pretty much any gender couldvoice Fishy in my opinion, and it
kind of would make sense. Theyjust have to be specific with their choices.

And I love that kind of pickedsomewhere in the middle because that's where
that character seems to land for me, So I'm excited to hear his version
of it. I've heard Sailor Starsfrom the Viz and then some of the
season one. I haven't touched supers at all, Okay, but yeah,
I'm excited to get there. Isthere anything that you want to add?

You sent me that clip with him. Yeah, yeah, that was
cute. He went very I don'teven know how to describe it, but
it was this kind of what Iwas hoping for. Is that how it
is in the show like that?Yeah? Okay, cool, and I'm
excited for it. Do you wantto add anything else about that? Oh?

Yeah, just I mean besides Fishyum. He again, he's a
bigger, a bigger modern name foranime. I guess his most famous character
now or his two most famous charactersare a Egedo and Demon Slayer, which
is one of the um Hashira,one of the Pillars, and then Goth

and Seven Deadly Sins, which isone of the main characters of Seven Deadly
Sins. And that's like his longestrunning character um in in anime so far.
Nice. Uh, Fishy is atotally different genre then well yes,
right, well, yeah, Imean he doesn't use. There's no other

character that he plays where he's usinglike a female voice so to speak to
to to play character or leading intentionallyfeminine. Yeah, yeah, well that
would be probably I would imagine amore fun role than because you get to
do something a little different. Ithink that's fun. Everyone can go check

there anything else going on you wantto tell us about? I guess just
the most recent thing as of likeI don't know, almost a week ago
by now, is that the thetrailer for the next region of Genshen came

out and introducing a bunch of newupcoming characters that would be playable. And
I've already interviewed pretty much everybody fromthe upcoming region that people were like have
been most excited about. So I'vejust been posting clips from the from those

interviews on on TikTok now and I'msure I'll be doing more like sequel interviews
and regular interviews with that once thecharacters actually come out. So um,
the first update for that region ismid August, like August sixteenth or something.

Like that, Oh you have alittle while. Yeah, then well
that's exciting. Um, that's onyour TikTok? Is it? This?

you know, hate head on likethat. So I thought that was kind
of cute. And we've gotten somenice compliments too recently from some other creators.

pushing with it even harder and keepyou know, trying to level up the

Mi Naco. Okay, So that'swhy, as far as we're concerned,
her overall credit is as Venus,but we will talk about her performance as

interview her? No? Okay?Is she one that's hard to get a

Clear Destiny, it's sort of likethe end of this arc, but it's

Something I'm already noticing that I wishthey wouldn't have done is like their titles
are very spoilery. Yeah, andI'm like, and I was noticing that
when I took the screenshots of theSailor, Uranus and Neptune episode to post
this week because we talked about itlast time, and that one the Japanese
title is literally just like Sailor Uranusand Neptune die, And you're like,

oh, okay, I guess Iknow what's happening today, Like, I
don't get it why they Is thattypical for anime? Yeah? Yeah,
I think so. I don't understandthat because I like to maintain a mystery.
But whatever. This was not sobad though, because we kind of
knew, you know, what wascoming. This episode open in a way

that we haven't really had before.How was the first thing we see?
Well, it's the very tail endfrom last episode where the girls split off
from after officially meeting Venus Um andthen Artemis says that they've they've been investigating

a certain area um and then itcuts to Beryl and Zoocyte and Quinzaya.
Then Beryl tells Zoocyte that, um, you should that you should battle to
Tuxedo Mask for the for the remainingrainbow crystal that they that they have.

excited. I'm finally getting to meetall you guys. Wow, Sailor Venus

I think she's wicked cool. Wedo get the scene like with the

is basically like, we have achange of plans. I want to bring
Tuxedo Mask over to our side.But then she doesn't like explain it really,
so it just sort of seems likeZoisite comes up with this plan on
her own to challenge him, andI thought, I think that's kind of
strange. I don't know why theythey changed it. Also, I thought
it was funny when Venus just randomlyjumps away. She's just like buy and

leaves and like yeah, And thenWraith or sailor Mars was like that was
rude. I thought that was kindof funny. Where do we go after
this intro to the episode? Whodo we see? Oh, it's Mo,
Yeah, it's mom. Ru right, it is with a weirdly ornate

doorknob. Did you notice that?No, his doorknob. It's like this
antique covered in these fancy designs.It looks like it would be something and
from a museum for absolutely no reason. Oh, I just thought that was
weird. I was like, whatis that doorknob? Why is it so
intense? But yeah, and what'she doing? His shoulder is still injured

from what happened. And you cansee it in the original version that when
he when he's leaning against the wall, that when he walks away from it
to sit on the couch, thatthat's I guess bad enough. Where there's
like blood that is left on theon the wall and what color is it?
Red? Yeah, they discolored itto be like um gray, but

they did leave the splatter there inthe English one. They also I don't
think this is in the Japanese.He has like a weird flashback to clips
from the previous episode, and thereason I don't think it's there is because
it's like superimposed kind of like thesailor says, with a weird like dancing
nineties background image behind it. Yeah, I don't think that's in the original.

So I guess that makes sense asto why. And they call it

call it our Light Tower. Whatever. I don't know why that was necessary
because they were like trying to makeit so they weren't in Japan somehow.

addressing Miss Haruna, who we haven'tseen in forever, and she's like,
basically it's suggesting she's skipping out ofdetention to like run off and do something,
which was supposed to be the scoutmeeting. But what happens instead that's,
well, that's funny because I'm Japanese. That's not one of those that's
not like mentioned at all, butum I kind of figured, yeah,

she's just sang to herself that Rayis going to shoot her out for being
laid again, and then there's likea still frame image of like Ray towering
over her and yelling at her fora second, and then she uh,
she runs into Mamroo hunched over andthey might have kept that. I'm not
remembering that image of Ray. Yeah, yeah, oh, I don't know.

Maybe it was cut out in theoriginal. I don't know. They
made a lot of weird choices inthis episode. Um, go ahead.
And then she just she hits themon the back and says, like,
what are you looking so depressed about? And then he is, you know,
still he's still obviously in pain bythat, But then he just doesn't
let on immediately. He just respondsto her like almost like perkey as ever.

And then she notices that she hasblood on her hand. Hey there's

course she does. And then Inoticed they kept the blood red and deek
they had to, probably just becauseof the story. And I just love
the way Terry delivers this lying She'slike, must be bad, and she
does this weird kind of accent.I don't even know what it is,
but it's so it's like the slightesttouch of a Southern twin or something,

and I just really enjoy it.She makes a lot of great moments like
that in this episode Moonstar a Salomonpodcast, will be right back and now
Mormonsta a Salomon podcast. After thatwhole scene where she realizes he's hurt,

Serena follows Darien and confronts him aboutit. And then what happens once they're
away from everybody else, This redenergy surrounds them and then encapulates them into
this little sphere and then they arelike floated up to the tower in the
(27:53):
distance. Yeah, before that happensthat, we see the girls at the
shrine, right, and Mina showsup. That was the meeting she was
supposed to be at, and theywhen she's not showing up. They decide
to go and look for her,and then yeah, we cut two.
We have that. I thought thered thing was really cool, and it

kind of seemed like Kinsite was likealso filling the area with this like weird
dark energy or something. I don'tknow, but that makes me ask I
don't think this is one of thetop ones. But who's the animator this
week? No, it is.It's Kazako who was the Really Yeah,

there were so many moments where Ithought stuff was like just a little bit
off that I could have sworn itwasn't one of the best ones. That's
interesting. Well, I have tokeep going and see I think I know
why. I don't know if you'llknow, but it happens later. So
after this moment where they're getting confrontedhere, oh this is I'm missing this
(29:00):
in my nose because I'm not rememberinghow it happens, But we have this
moment where we see the rainbow crystalslike all scattered on the floor and there's
this like standoff between Texedo Mask andZoisite. I liked how the rainbow crystals
looked when they were animated. Basicallythroughout the entire episode, and how does
(29:22):
this moment between Zoisite and Darien endup playing out. That's pretty predictable what
happens after Zoosite and mom Rou setthe crystals down, Zoosite starts laughing and
stus how stupid he is, andthen Kinsite shows up just to grab them
(29:42):
and then disappears. Yeah, andit's one of those things where it's like,
we probably should have seen that coming, yeah, you know, but
also I guess what else was hegoing to do? So Kinzite shows up
alongside Zoysite, and after she takesall the crystal, Darien throws a rose
(30:02):
which cuts Zoysite's face, obviously,making you know, Zoisite mad because of
the whole vanity thing that's supposed tobe part of their character. And Serena
shows up and then her and Darienstart running from these I guess they're ice
attacks right from Zoisite. Yeah,Like the entire the entire floor just turns
(30:25):
ice and frost cover and then theice schools start. They're sharp, they're
really sharp, and they start rainingdown and they have to run to get
to the elevator, and then partof the part of that floor breaks away
and crumbles away. I thought thatwas kind of random, because we've seen
Zoysite mess with fire and cherry blossomsbut never use ice before. Yeah,
(30:49):
and I guess I'm trying to figureout. I think I'm trying to place
what each general's powers are mentally,does that make sense? Like Jedite absorbs
people's energy, has monsters and thencan like I don't know what telekinesis,
I guess is the plain thing?Yeah, what does neph flight do?

I have like energy blasts for likewhenever he attacked anybody. Oh, that's
right, that's right. He hadkind of like these dark energy abilities.
The dark energy thing is kind ofkinsitees thing too. He has like a

It makes soy Site's character a littlemore unique in the fact that they

this part, we hear some thoughtsfrom Serena in the Deep One anyway about
how they're not after her she thoughtthey would be. She's like, she's
surprised they're going after Darien. Idon't know if she addresses that or not.

then now we're at this like famouselevator moment here. Before we get to
that, it cuts away to theother scouts trying to figure out what's going
on with the tower. Who findsthem? Oh? Who finds what?
Like? Who figures out like everything, like where they are and what's up?

Oh? Amma uses her computer thanadvisor. Yeah, and then yeah,
pinpoints where exactly they're located. Idon't see any way in guys Mercury,
can you do a computer scan?Serena's trapped in an elevator with a

We've got to get into that building, that's right. Yeah, she's
able to scan and kind of likeit's it's almost like a computerized X ray
view of the tower and then zoomsin on them and finds them in the
elevator and they she also in theEnglish says that it's like sealed, so

they know it's locked from her computer. How do they get inside? Jupiter
uses her supreme thunder the closest entrancein front of them. I call upon
the great power of Jupiter helped mebust into that building. Nothing like the

like shelf shocked about that, andthen they all run in, right.
Do you like when they do thatstuff? Yeah, It's one of my
favorite things is whenever they use theirabilities on like not a monster for something

like because I think sailor Moon earlierwe see her use her tiara to get
in to the clock store or whateverit was. Yeah, and then we
have this moment. I love that. It's one of my favorite things.
And so after they get in,we come back and we have this shot
with Konzi and Zoisite for a momentwhere they're standing together. What do they

talk about here? That's Konzite saysthat you should go. It's pretty much
just him telling Zoe a site likeyou should get back at them for injuring
your face. So he's encouraging her, yeah, okay, or him In
the English one he's basically warning.So it's like not to get too carried

away with revenge, which is actuallybetter advice, opinion. So I like
the way they changed it. What'sgoing on in the elevator here? What
are Serena and Darien talking about?He tells her about his past. This
elevator right is taking so long,it's like slow torture. Darien? Why

are you after the rainbow crystals?Oh? I'm sorry. I guess that's
pretty nosy of me. Huh.I want to know who I am?
Huh. You see my whole life, I've never known who I really am
or where I come from. Imean, I'm not even sure my real
name is Darien. I was orphanedin a terrible car crash when I was

really young, complete amnesia, nomemory whatsoever. And he doesn't have any
known relatives, so we better arrangefor an orphanage. Who am I?
I don't remember? Darian? Daris that my me? I lived at

the orphanage to I get a job. It never bothered me much to like
kept having this recurring dream there's thisprincess waiting for me. She keeps begging
me to bring her this imperium silvercrystal. I think she can tell me
who I am. And I thoughtthat something that is interesting. They make
the princess and his dream look enoughlike Serena that we're kind of like,

obviously it's her, But they alsochange the hair color a little bit,
and so there is that thing whereyou're like, I guess it could be
someone else, like the way thather mom, like Queen Serenity, is
basically her but like silver hair,you know what I mean. So in
my mind, I guess that couldleave a little room for him to be

like, I don't get it.But also maybe we're supposed to know that
her hairstyle isn't that uncommon. Maybethat's a thing I don't know. After
this conversation that reveals a lot ofreally important stuff to the audience, we
see Knzite looking out over Tokyo,which I thought was animated pretty cool.

And then what is he do somethinghere that I didn't I don't understand why
he does this, but he blacksout the whole city Like I guess he
was shutting down the power grids orwhatever. Do they explain that, No,
all right, He's just like,here's some more bad stuff to do,
and then that, oh, thisis where it seems like he floods

the space with dark energy because theystart animating these like weird symbols and stuff
over everything. And what happens whenthe elevator stops. He produces a fire
attack that floods the floods the wholearea in the elevator shaft and it's supposed
to go down and you know,burn Usagi and Mama to death. Yeah,

zoisit does? Who's standing at thetop there? And how do they
escape? Right as it's about tocome down, um Usaki has a realization
that if she doesn't transform in asailor Moon right there, then she'll die,
even though Mamru will know explicitly thatshe is Sailor Moon. So then

she decides to do that. Knowwhat, Carrian, who cares what Beryl
wants? I'm in charge of TixedoMassic's destiny now too bad. He's gonna
have a little accident fire at sayingthe room could get us out of this.

But then Darren, you'll find outwho I really am. There's only
one choice. No fun getting josted, Oh you're going down side side talk.

Oh it's her so in a sailormoan. That's that's one of the

most well known, I think scenesin the original series overall, animation wise,
where it's all those still frame umwatercolor shots of Usaki looking all dramatic
when she's about to transform. Ohyeah, yeah, I guess that those

are watercolory. I guess they are. I wasn't thinking about that for some
reason. I was focused on,like the cutaways and then the logic behind
how her transforming somehow reflects the fireright that always bothered me when I was
younger. Now I think I getit to where like we've had a lot

of evidence of this at this point. But their powers, a big part
of it is they do what theyneed it to do when they need that.
Yeah, that's kind of part ofwhat being a sailor scout is.
So I guess it makes enough sensethat if she transformed, that kind of
surge of whatever energy it is thattransforms her could service some kind of a

shield or a push back against theattack. Like, fine, I'll accept
it. It is. It's justI wish they were more clear about how
that saved them, you know whatI mean, because it just it was
odd to me. What do youthink, how does it work? I
don't know. I guess the onlylogical thing is that when they are transforming,

maybe if it is in an enclosedspace, that just the just the
just them transforming it by itself createsenough of an energy displacement thing that it
can deflect something like that. Idon't know, it would make sense.
It also makes sense to me thatwhen they're transformed, they have some kind
of heightened ability to withstand damage,I guess, or attacks. That could

be sort of that too, thattype of thing. But anyway, it's
definitely one of the most important momentswe've had so far in the series.
It's one of the most important momentsof season one, I think when she
reveals herself to him, and whenwe finally see them standing at the top
of the thing after I just notedI really liked how they animated the wind

effect on her outfit. I thoughtthat was really cool. I don't know
if you noticed that. Yeah,but I imagine doing that is really difficult
and it's probably like a lot ofrepeating the same frame almost exactly, but
just moving the dress when you're drawingit, you know, and I imagine
that takes a lot of time,So thank you to them for spending the

time on it. But we alsoget another unique transformation here. What happens
All the fire shoots back up andZoside starts walking away, assuming that they're
dead, and then he says tohimself in the Japanese at least, that
he'll have to call all barrel andsay that Monrou died in an accident um

and then wants the fire wants shesays that. Then Musagi says like who,
like who died in an accident?Like what are you talking about?
And then you know, turns aroundand sees that like they're both still alive.
Oh really in this in the English, it's more like, um,

I don't think Zoysite says the thingabout he died, but it kind of
cuts to Dairy and basically saying somethingabout him being like tuxedo mask is here
or something like that, and thenhe pulls out a rose and that's what
happens next. Oh okay, okay, I love that part because of Terry
Hawk's delivery here, it takes morethan an easily fireball to get rid of

Saleremon, you slime Leicester. Youshould know that after all this time,
I am say in a moon universeand that means you how ironic it is
new that I want? But you'repale tuxedo mask. Tuxedo mask, give
me a break. He's not evenhere, so I cite yes, I

Mask. I don't believe it becauseshe's like, it's all serious and everything,
and it's like, oh my gosh, is it tuxedo mask? And

I don't believe it, Like isthis weird robody delivery? That's just so
funny to me, and it's justmore evidence of her good comedic timing.
That's the first time that you seeis um. I don't think it happens
very much at all in the series, Like you see mom Roos quote unquote
pension transformation sequence. I think theonly other time we see the full one,

if you to call it, that, is in the S movie,
yeah, or in one of them. I think it's the S movie.
Um, But I know that hedoes transform in two other instances that I
can think of, but it's morelike there's the one where he's on the
street and it kind of like takeshim over, and then there's the one
in s where the wind blows andhe's like, suddenly tuxedo't ask um.

But yeah, no, this isone of those really unique moments. What
do you think of his transformation?It's I mean, it's cool that it's
cool that they that they added thatfor his character as well, and I
like how I like as it's happeningthat his body is this uh cool like
kaleidoscope color, and I like theI like the giant rose background that happens

when it's done. In my dreammonk, this is gonna take him adjusting
too. I agree with that.I wish it would have had more to
it a little, and I wishhe would have started with less on not
even in a way where it's like, oh, I want to see that

silhouette. It's more like almost likean equality thing where it's like the girls
are all that way. Why ishe starting like basically dressed already, you
know, and like he doesn't getto have any But it was probably one
of those things where they were tryingto somehow still keep it a little masculine
even though it's very flowery. Theone thing about it that is kind of

funny to me is the way thetop hat moves. But yeah, I
don't know how else they could havedone that without it being kind of goofy
either, So whatever. I don'tknow if you ever if you've ever seen
the video, you probably haven't,but it always makes me think of there's
a there's a video YouTube that's someonetook of his Japanese voice actor Tora Farua

at a convention in the US,and somebody's asking him if he can say
tuxedo power makeup and he says itas mam roo. Oh no, I
haven't seen it, but that's cute. Yeah, I like that. Yeah,
I wish he would, we wouldget more of him, But I
think there is like an intention behindhim not being a big feature sort of

in a way. I noticed afterhe transformed for some reason, his facial
expressions like did not match the toneof the moment at all. He just
kind of has this blank smile onhis face, and up until that point
they were animating his expressions like verywell, So I thought that was a
little weird. But then right afterthis what happens with Zoisite. He says

that, oh, like, let'slet's officially fight now. And then as
Mamuru is walking closer to Zoosite Zoositebehind he has one hand behind his back
and he's using it to control ashard that comes out from the ground in
order like to stab Usaki in theback. And then right as it's about

to happen, mom tuxedo masks takesthe blow instead, and it's it's pretty
much identical to how it looks inthe in the our movie, but I
think the when it happens in theour movie it's a little bit more like
gory, like off camera in away. Well, in this one,

I know what you're talking about becauseI've seen the original version. They made
a lot of cuts in this spotbecause they had Yeah, first they sort
of cut around the fact that itwas originally aiming at Serena at all.
You see that it is, butit immediately goes from that. You see
it, I like, they showit pierce him, which I thought was

odd, and then you get acouple of flashes of the red moments and
then it cuts to Serena being upsetabout what happened, but you don't see
him like take it for her,you know what I'm saying, Like,
we don't see that that was whatwas happening here. I don't know why
they would remove that. Maybe it'slike there was probably something complicated about the

fact that a person was putting themselvesin physical harm's way to protect another person
that like hit some kind of legalityand that they had to like work around.
That's the only thing I can reallythink of because it was still violent
and we still know what happened sortof, and we see that he's yeah,

like basically got stabbed all the waythrough, and I know it's not
the same, But this is wherewe get the song My Only Love by
Jennifer Seehee in the Deep version,which is extremely nineties but also like fits

Let's talk about that transformation though realquick. I don't I swear it's
like this in the Japanese version two, but it's like very chopped together and

there's this moment where it's like yousee her sort of slowly spinning. You
get a jump cut to some weird, swishy moment with her dress, and
then another jump cut back to like, it doesn't make any sense, is
it like that? I think?So that drives me absolutely bananas because this
is one of the most important momentsin season one, and they spent all

this like time and energy on otherthings in this episode, like animating the
cool fire, animating her little dressswishing in the wind, and they couldn't
figure out how to make one fluidmotion out of this. Like I don't
know why, but it's always drivenme absolutely crazy. And I thought it
was a deep thing the first timeI saw it, and then when I

saw it in the Japanese when Iwas like, are you freaking kidding me,
it's just as bad. So yeah, I'm surprised you didn't mention that.
Did you never notice that? Idon't know. I just didn't think
it was like that significant. Ifind it so jarring. It's like,
imagine if in the middle of herregular transformation, they randomly cut and pasted

like seven frames from a different transformationfrom a different season for absolutely no reason.
Like it would be that jarring atleast to me, you know what
I mean, because it's just likethe way the movement is happening completely changes
all of a sudden, and thenwe like the camera was sort of panning
a certain way and then it's notanymore, and then suddenly or on her

face. I don't know. Ithink it might be just I think it's
the fact that it's so important.That is why I'm like stuck on that
detail, because I'm like, thatwas supposed to be so cool, and
then it was kind of like,yeah, I don't know, but you're
all right though, when they zoomin on her face and like the way

they have it animated with the hair, like her bangs kind of like flop,
you know, in the wind.I really like that part. So
I do think they end it inthe right way there. But yeah,

figure out why they let that happenbecause everything else is so well done.

to say it's four stars for me, but you tell us you're rating,

stars. Why do you give itfour? That's done well enough. Um,
that's very movie like at times,and Kasko Tadano did a mostly pretty
good job with doing CREC designs forthis episode. There's some really great shots

one of the really important episodes that'syou know, it holds up, you
know, thirty one years later.Yeah, I agree with a lot of
that. I think overall, thepacing is extremely well done. We've had
some episodes where I don't feel likethat, but this, like you said,
that's just kind of feel like amovie. It's a little more thought

out, I think in the waythey story boarded it. In general,
I liked a lot of the animationmoments, even though there were some that
were a little funny to me.And yeah, that just that parted the

don't realize how much we are notdoing that because we are very antisocial creatures.

other people won't talk to them.You're constantly looking at your phone so someone
won't talk to you. But thereare certain times when you don't want to
be doing those things because you shouldbe paying attention to what's going on around

good time you think of? Youcould think of where you might not want
to be distracting yourself. I couldn'tsay it for you too. Whenever you're

if you're in a big city andyou're alone, no matter what time,
no matter what time it is,but especially at night, Like that's something
that you, you know, wantto be aware of that you're paying attention

one that's like paying attention. Ifyou're walking home after being out or whatever

Like things like that you kind ofwant to be aware of. And if

who exercises outdoors, it's great tolisten to music, but I don't think

you should have it so loud thatyou can't hear what's going on around you,

that like? That was with KeithSilverstein, who he's been a big name
and both mostly anime but anime andlike general voiceover stuff since the early two

thousands. Um, He's He's,He'ssoka and Hunter Hunter gen Lee and Gunshan
Impact m Kimmy Marrow and Naruto theprotagonist and several other characters in the Persona
franchise, um Stark and Bleach,Um a lot of other stuff, and

then he plays Uh doctor Tomo andthe Um the re dub of Sailor Moon.
He's one of my favorite villains,so I'm excited for getting to hear
his version of him when we getthere. And also the other characters I
probably would know were the Narajo characterand then the Bleach I didn't see all

of but I had a friend wholoved it, so I saw part of
it, okay, so I probablywould know him from there. What do
you think his most popular characters are? Probably he sook out an Hunter Hunter
and John Lee and Genshan impact atleast it's it's his most popular character,
like since Genshan has been out rightand what was if you could pick one

thing from the interview, like afavorite moment, what comes to mind?
I guess probably when we were justtalking about his early anime roles, for
stuff that I grew up with,or like stuff that is still my favorite
from back then, because since hedoesn't really get to talk about that very
much or you know, meet peoplethat know what that is, that's something

that I think Susan brought up aswell. In these interviews, you go
really deep into these people's career andyou bring up stuff all out of the
time that in interviews these days peopleprobably don't ask about because it's all about
the current project, or maybe theyjust don't know about it. And I
love that they enjoy that, youknow, and it's sort of a fun

moment for them. So I lovethat you got to do that again with
him. Tell us about interviewing thevoice of Fish. I yeah, that
was really that was really fun.That was the That was the following day
after I interviewed Keith Um, soit was on on that on that Tuesday.
That was that was that went alittle bit longer, like I think

ten or fifteen minutes longer than Keithsdid. Uh. Yeah, that was.
That was great. We'd most ofit was I would say probably like
I think almost a half hour ofit or like twenty five minutes of it
was about Fish, I uh.And there were several things that he mentioned,

but just that because he's he's twentynine um and he said that Super
Supers was the series that he firstsaw to become acquainted with Sailor Moon back
then, and just like just likea lot of other people I've talked to
that are better in the redub.He auditioned for several characters um for for

that particular season, and then theyhe almost got Helios, but then they
said that they that they liked hisfish I'm more uh and um. He
said that he of course based itoff of the Japanese performance like most dubs
want people to do, but umin a way, he was also imbuing

the original like female voiced fish Im as well, so he brought like
he wanted to bring both the bothelements of that to the character this time.
I think that was a really smartchoice on his part, because,
as we talked about fish I recently, that is one of the more gender

queer or non binary leaning characters naturallyin the show. Whether or not the
voice was a female or a maledoing it, it's just visually and with
like the choices that are made bydress and the way that the character is
portrayed. Pretty much any gender couldvoice Fishy in my opinion, and it
kind of would make sense. Theyjust have to be specific with their choices.

And I love that kind of pickedsomewhere in the middle because that's where
that character seems to land for me, So I'm excited to hear his version
of it. I've heard Sailor Starsfrom the Viz and then some of the
season one. I haven't touched supers at all, Okay, but yeah,
I'm excited to get there. Isthere anything that you want to add?

You sent me that clip with him. Yeah, yeah, that was
cute. He went very I don'teven know how to describe it, but
it was this kind of what Iwas hoping for. Is that how it

Yeah, just I mean besides Fishyum. He again, he's a
bigger, a bigger modern name foranime. I guess his most famous character
now or his two most famous charactersare a Egedo and Demon Slayer, which
is one of the um Hashira,one of the Pillars, and then Goth

and Seven Deadly Sins, which isone of the main characters of Seven Deadly
Sins. And that's like his longestrunning character um in in anime so far.
Nice. Uh, Fishy is atotally different genre then well yes,
right, well, yeah, Imean he doesn't use. There's no other

character that he plays where he's usinglike a female voice so to speak to
to to play character or leading intentionallyfeminine. Yeah, yeah, well that
would be probably I would imagine amore fun role than because you get to
do something a little different. Ithink that's fun. Everyone can go check

and regular interviews with that once thecharacters actually come out. So um,

not like mentioned at all, butum I kind of figured, yeah,

she's just sang to herself that Rayis going to shoot her out for being
laid again, and then there's likea still frame image of like Ray towering
over her and yelling at her fora second, and then she uh,
she runs into Mamroo hunched over andthey might have kept that. I'm not

Serena follows Darien and confronts him aboutit. And then what happens once they're
away from everybody else, This redenergy surrounds them and then encapulates them into
this little sphere and then they arelike floated up to the tower in the

distance. Yeah, before that happensthat, we see the girls at the
shrine, right, and Mina showsup. That was the meeting she was
supposed to be at, and theywhen she's not showing up. They decide
to go and look for her,and then yeah, we cut two.
We have that. I thought thered thing was really cool, and it

kind of seemed like Kinsite was likealso filling the area with this like weird
dark energy or something. I don'tknow, but that makes me ask I
don't think this is one of thetop ones. But who's the animator this
week? No, it is.It's Kazako who was the Really Yeah,

there were so many moments where Ithought stuff was like just a little bit
off that I could have sworn itwasn't one of the best ones. That's
interesting. Well, I have tokeep going and see I think I know
why. I don't know if you'llknow, but it happens later. So
after this moment where they're getting confrontedhere, oh this is I'm missing this

in my nose because I'm not rememberinghow it happens, But we have this
moment where we see the rainbow crystalslike all scattered on the floor and there's
this like standoff between Texedo Mask andZoisite. I liked how the rainbow crystals
looked when they were animated. Basicallythroughout the entire episode, and how does

this moment between Zoisite and Darien endup playing out. That's pretty predictable what
happens after Zoosite and mom Rou setthe crystals down, Zoosite starts laughing and
stus how stupid he is, andthen Kinsite shows up just to grab them

and then disappears. Yeah, andit's one of those things where it's like,
we probably should have seen that coming, yeah, you know, but
also I guess what else was hegoing to do? So Kinzite shows up
alongside Zoysite, and after she takesall the crystal, Darien throws a rose

which cuts Zoysite's face, obviously,making you know, Zoisite mad because of
the whole vanity thing that's supposed tobe part of their character. And Serena
shows up and then her and Darienstart running from these I guess they're ice
attacks right from Zoisite. Yeah,Like the entire the entire floor just turns

ice and frost cover and then theice schools start. They're sharp, they're
really sharp, and they start rainingdown and they have to run to get
to the elevator, and then partof the part of that floor breaks away
and crumbles away. I thought thatwas kind of random, because we've seen
Zoysite mess with fire and cherry blossomsbut never use ice before. Yeah,

and I guess I'm trying to figureout. I think I'm trying to place
what each general's powers are mentally,does that make sense? Like Jedite absorbs
people's energy, has monsters and thencan like I don't know what telekinesis,
I guess is the plain thing?Yeah, what does neph flight do?

I have like energy blasts for likewhenever he attacked anybody. Oh, that's
right, that's right. He hadkind of like these dark energy abilities.
The dark energy thing is kind ofkinsitees thing too. He has like a
site or he has some kind ofa weapon later I think, yeah,
I think, yeah, So Iguess that. I guess that makes Soysite

kind of their magician, if youwant to call it that, because well,
because she seems to or he seemsto be able to just kind of
do all the different elements basically,Yeah, and disguised himself. Yeah,
Like we don't see him use thunder, I don't think, but he probably
could, I guess. I don'tknow. I think that's kind of interesting.
It makes soy Site's character a littlemore unique in the fact that they

have so many different abilities too.I think that's kind of nice. During
this part, we hear some thoughtsfrom Serena in the Deep One anyway about
how they're not after her she thoughtthey would be. She's like, she's
surprised they're going after Darien. Idon't know if she addresses that or not.
No, I don't think so.There's probably something they added. And

then now we're at this like famouselevator moment here. Before we get to
that, it cuts away to theother scouts trying to figure out what's going
on with the tower. Who findsthem? Oh? Who finds what?
Like? Who figures out like everything, like where they are and what's up?

Oh? Amma uses her computer thanadvisor. Yeah, and then yeah,
pinpoints where exactly they're located. Idon't see any way in guys Mercury,
can you do a computer scan?Serena's trapped in an elevator with a

We've got to get into that building, that's right. Yeah, she's
able to scan and kind of likeit's it's almost like a computerized X ray
view of the tower and then zoomsin on them and finds them in the
elevator and they she also in theEnglish says that it's like sealed, so

they know it's locked from her computer. How do they get inside? Jupiter
uses her supreme thunder the closest entrancein front of them. I call upon
the great power of Jupiter helped mebust into that building. Nothing like the

like shelf shocked about that, andthen they all run in, right.
Do you like when they do thatstuff? Yeah, It's one of my
favorite things is whenever they use theirabilities on like not a monster for something

like because I think sailor Moon earlierwe see her use her tiara to get
in to the clock store or whateverit was. Yeah, and then we
have this moment. I love that. It's one of my favorite things.
And so after they get in,we come back and we have this shot
with Konzi and Zoisite for a momentwhere they're standing together. What do they

talk about here? That's Konzite saysthat you should go. It's pretty much
just him telling Zoe a site likeyou should get back at them for injuring
your face. So he's encouraging her, yeah, okay, or him In
the English one he's basically warning.So it's like not to get too carried

away with revenge, which is actuallybetter advice, opinion. So I like
the way they changed it. What'sgoing on in the elevator here? What
are Serena and Darien talking about?He tells her about his past. This

kept having this recurring dream there's thisprincess waiting for me. She keeps begging
me to bring her this imperium silvercrystal. I think she can tell me
who I am. And I thoughtthat something that is interesting. They make
the princess and his dream look enoughlike Serena that we're kind of like,

obviously it's her, But they alsochange the hair color a little bit,
and so there is that thing whereyou're like, I guess it could be
someone else, like the way thather mom, like Queen Serenity, is
basically her but like silver hair,you know what I mean. So in
my mind, I guess that couldleave a little room for him to be

like, I don't get it.But also maybe we're supposed to know that
her hairstyle isn't that uncommon. Maybethat's a thing I don't know. After
this conversation that reveals a lot ofreally important stuff to the audience, we
see Knzite looking out over Tokyo,which I thought was animated pretty cool.

And then what is he do somethinghere that I didn't I don't understand why
he does this, but he blacksout the whole city Like I guess he
was shutting down the power grids orwhatever. Do they explain that, No,
all right, He's just like,here's some more bad stuff to do,
and then that, oh, thisis where it seems like he floods

the space with dark energy because theystart animating these like weird symbols and stuff

reason. I was focused on,like the cutaways and then the logic behind
how her transforming somehow reflects the fireright that always bothered me when I was

of evidence of this at this point. But their powers, a big part
of it is they do what theyneed it to do when they need that.
Yeah, that's kind of part ofwhat being a sailor scout is.
So I guess it makes enough sensethat if she transformed, that kind of
surge of whatever energy it is thattransforms her could service some kind of a

shield or a push back against theattack. Like, fine, I'll accept
it. It is. It's justI wish they were more clear about how
that saved them, you know whatI mean, because it just it was
odd to me. What do youthink, how does it work? I
don't know. I guess the onlylogical thing is that when they are transforming,

maybe if it is in an enclosedspace, that just the just the
just them transforming it by itself createsenough of an energy displacement thing that it
can deflect something like that. Idon't know, it would make sense.
It also makes sense to me thatwhen they're transformed, they have some kind
of heightened ability to withstand damage,I guess, or attacks. That could

be sort of that too, thattype of thing. But anyway, it's
definitely one of the most important momentswe've had so far in the series.
It's one of the most important momentsof season one, I think when she
reveals herself to him, and whenwe finally see them standing at the top
of the thing after I just notedI really liked how they animated the wind

effect on her outfit. I thoughtthat was really cool. I don't know
if you noticed that. Yeah,but I imagine doing that is really difficult
and it's probably like a lot ofrepeating the same frame almost exactly, but
just moving the dress when you're drawingit, you know, and I imagine

time on it. But we alsoget another unique transformation here. What happens
All the fire shoots back up andZoside starts walking away, assuming that they're
dead, and then he says tohimself in the Japanese at least, that

like who died in an accident?Like what are you talking about?
And then you know, turns aroundand sees that like they're both still alive.
Oh really in this in the English, it's more like, um,

I don't think Zoysite says the thingabout he died, but it kind of
cuts to Dairy and basically saying somethingabout him being like tuxedo mask is here
or something like that, and thenhe pulls out a rose and that's what
happens next. Oh okay, okay, I love that part because of Terry
Hawk's delivery here, it takes morethan an easily fireball to get rid of

That's the first time that you seeis um. I don't think it happens
very much at all in the series, Like you see mom Roos quote unquote
pension transformation sequence. I think theonly other time we see the full one,

if you to call it, that, is in the S movie,
yeah, or in one of them. I think it's the S movie.
Um, But I know that hedoes transform in two other instances that I
can think of, but it's morelike there's the one where he's on the
street and it kind of like takeshim over, and then there's the one
in s where the wind blows andhe's like, suddenly tuxedo't ask um.

But yeah, no, this isone of those really unique moments. What
do you think of his transformation?It's I mean, it's cool that it's
cool that they that they added thatfor his character as well, and I
like how I like as it's happeningthat his body is this uh cool like

at a convention in the US,and somebody's asking him if he can say
tuxedo power makeup and he says itas mam roo. Oh no, I
haven't seen it, but that's cute. Yeah, I like that. Yeah,
I wish he would, we wouldget more of him, But I
think there is like an intention behindhim not being a big feature sort of

in a way. I noticed afterhe transformed for some reason, his facial
expressions like did not match the toneof the moment at all. He just
kind of has this blank smile onhis face, and up until that point
they were animating his expressions like verywell, So I thought that was a
little weird. But then right afterthis what happens with Zoisite. He says

that, oh, like, let'slet's officially fight now. And then as
Mamuru is walking closer to Zoosite Zoositebehind he has one hand behind his back
and he's using it to control ashard that comes out from the ground in
order like to stab Usaki in theback. And then right as it's about

to happen, mom tuxedo masks takesthe blow instead, and it's it's pretty
much identical to how it looks inthe in the our movie, but I
think the when it happens in theour movie it's a little bit more like
gory, like off camera in away. Well, in this one,

I know what you're talking about becauseI've seen the original version. They made
a lot of cuts in this spotbecause they had Yeah, first they sort
of cut around the fact that itwas originally aiming at Serena at all.
You see that it is, butit immediately goes from that. You see
it, I like, they showit pierce him, which I thought was

odd, and then you get acouple of flashes of the red moments and
then it cuts to Serena being upsetabout what happened, but you don't see
him like take it for her,you know what I'm saying, Like,
we don't see that that was whatwas happening here. I don't know why

fact that a person was putting themselvesin physical harm's way to protect another person
that like hit some kind of legalityand that they had to like work around.

Let's talk about that transformation though realquick. I don't I swear it's
like this in the Japanese version two, but it's like very chopped together and

there's this moment where it's like yousee her sort of slowly spinning. You
get a jump cut to some weird, swishy moment with her dress, and
then another jump cut back to like, it doesn't make any sense, is
it like that? I think?So that drives me absolutely bananas because this
is one of the most important momentsin season one, and they spent all

this like time and energy on otherthings in this episode, like animating the
cool fire, animating her little dressswishing in the wind, and they couldn't
figure out how to make one fluidmotion out of this. Like I don't
know why, but it's always drivenme absolutely crazy. And I thought it
was a deep thing the first timeI saw it, and then when I

saw it in the Japanese when Iwas like, are you freaking kidding me,
it's just as bad. So yeah, I'm surprised you didn't mention that.
Did you never notice that? Idon't know. I just didn't think
it was like that significant. Ifind it so jarring. It's like,
imagine if in the middle of herregular transformation, they randomly cut and pasted

like seven frames from a different transformationfrom a different season for absolutely no reason.
Like it would be that jarring atleast to me, you know what
I mean, because it's just likethe way the movement is happening completely changes
all of a sudden, and thenwe like the camera was sort of panning
a certain way and then it's notanymore, and then suddenly or on her

face. I don't know. Ithink it might be just I think it's
the fact that it's so important.That is why I'm like stuck on that
detail, because I'm like, thatwas supposed to be so cool, and
then it was kind of like,yeah, I don't know, but you're

they have it animated with the hair, like her bangs kind of like flop,
you know, in the wind.I really like that part. So
I do think they end it inthe right way there. But yeah,
I'm so mad at that, Likethat literally costs the episode of Full Star

figure out why they let that happenbecause everything else is so well done.
I'm like, who whoo. Anyway, So yeah, we're at the point
where we need to rate the episodeI'll go first. Today. I want
to say it's four stars for me, but you tell us you're rating,

stars. Why do you give itfour? That's done well enough. Um,
that's very movie like at times,and Kasko Tadano did a mostly pretty
good job with doing CREC designs forthis episode. There's some really great shots

one of the really important episodes that'syou know, it holds up, you
know, thirty one years later.Yeah, I agree with a lot of
that. I think overall, thepacing is extremely well done. We've had

out, I think in the waythey story boarded it. In general,
I liked a lot of the animationmoments, even though there were some that
were a little funny to me.And yeah, that just that parted the

don't realize how much we are notdoing that because we are very antisocial creatures.

other people won't talk to them.You're constantly looking at your phone so someone
won't talk to you. But thereare certain times when you don't want to
be doing those things because you shouldbe paying attention to what's going on around

good time you think of? Youcould think of where you might not want
to be distracting yourself. I couldn'tsay it for you too. Whenever you're

if you're in a big city andyou're alone, no matter what time,

who exercises outdoors, it's great tolisten to music, but I don't think
