We showed up for Hazel’s routine eye appointment… and walked out without being seen. In this episode of More Than Reality, Adam and Danielle Busby share the shocking story of being kicked out of their daughter’s doctor’s office, why it happened, and how it connects to Hazel’s ongoing journey with congenital nystagmus.

You’ll hear the behind-the-scenes details, how the situation unfolded, and why we’re still passionate about sharing Hazel’s story to help other families facing similar challenges. Plus, Danielle gives an exciting update about her upcoming women’s event — The Heart of Her — happening this fall.

We also talk about family life, school starting back up, and how we balance sharing our story while protecting our kids.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
So to catch you guys out, You're going to get
me all fired up again.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
If you didn't, if you didn't see Daniel's Instagram story
the other day, and I kind of refrained from posting
anything because I'm still kind of angry about it. I
wanted to literally drive there and go speak to somebody,
and I thought, well, that's probably going to be a
bad idea. But I mean, this is so ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
That's what I called you, and I said, you better
be glad that you weren't here, because we would have
all been embarrassed.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
This is More Than Reality podcast where we dive into
all things faith, family, and marriage and share that there
is so much more than the reality that you see
on the surface. Welcome to More Than Reality with Adam
and Daniel Busby.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
I feel like I should pull them.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
What's up, guys. It is episode forty five of More
Than Reality Podcast. This is Adam and Daniel Buzzby and
we're here. We're here, and Adams, this is like a
crazy week. I mean, kids, stop, kids started, What on
earth you're wearing? You have a camo hoodie shirt on

(01:18):
and I'm representing in for Burley Bow.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Is it a chemo jersey.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
I guess it is or that the camera.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well you were, I mean, I can't even see you.
There's so much camo. I don't even know where you're sitting. Well,
what's going on with this outfit? I mean, don't talk
about my outfit today because I look amazing, But what
what is happening? No?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I feel like you're on and then you just like trading.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
The crew over at Burley Bow sent me this jersey
and it's like a limited edition. It's their ten year
anniversary for Burley Bow. There exis based outdoor lifestyle company.
Do they play basketball or yeah, you can. It's outdoor.
Whatever you do outdoors, you can do it in Burley Bow.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
You know, it's really cute. I wish we had a
little boy right now. No has a lot of No
you have.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Matching stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Makes you want a little boy just to put him
in the little Burley Boys stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Burly Boy, Hey, that would be actually cute.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
They should use that.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Anyway, so you're just got this week and I was like,
I'll throw it on today. Clearly I'm all decked out.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Adam draws me nuts when he wears camo, and he
likes to know.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
What else drudge nuts, huh, A lot of things that
you do Wrangler, butts wrangler but drive me.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
No, No, I'm more or less curious about your outfit
because you were like a person like you would wear
that Camo Camo shirt right there. It's like greens Camo,
and you would put on the same color green pants,

(03:18):
or sometimes you would wear khaki shirt with khaki pants,
but not like it's a set.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I won't wear a khaki shirt. I'll wear like a
off white shirt.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
With k you think they look, or you'll wear.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Like or a army green Sometimes I wonder if you're
a color blind at times, because like, like that's not
a set.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
It doesn't go together.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
But it's very popular to wear sets today these days,
like a bunch of our kids exactly. But when you
you'll put like something like that's way too much of
the same color. That's not meant to go together. So
I'm glad you have jeans on with this attire today.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Thanks. I think, well, it's.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Just funny because like you like that Camo jersey doesn't
really go over that Camo's shirt, so it doesn't it
looks very loud, and it.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Usually is not. I'm not loud what some things you wear,
especially some of your shoes, they're very loud.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah. I usually express myself with my shoes.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Anyways, what are we talking about today? I don't like
this way drup like my socks. I love socks, y'all.
Just if you're wondering you like rocks too.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
I like rocks.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Like we were in Colorado Springs a couple of weeks ago,
and we're like driving in the mountains and Adam just
looks out, you know, it's like cliffs and cars chir
and he just looks out the window and he goes,
I like rocks.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
I mean being in Houston, Texas, it's so like flat
and it's funny.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
It wasn't like I like mountains. These mountains are pretty
I like rocks.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
But whenever you go like somebody that's from Houston that's
not used to seeing any kind of really hills or mountains.
I mean, yes, Texas has like the hill country and stuff.
You have to go like way way further west, but
it's not the same.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
But hills are not.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Whenever we're driving through Colorado or somewhere like that, that's
got just super picturesque scenery, lots of rocks, granite mountains,
Like it just does something to you.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
It's like how you say, like he loves cactus, like
anywhere we're out there and he's like, oh.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yeah, when we're in West Texas all the time we're
out at the ranch. So now that I look at
all those cactus, now all the I.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Like rocks is now the new joke. Now I like rocks,
and you know.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Lass at Man every time I call it the cactus. Yeah,
I just I mean around here, you're used to seeing
people like playing for people, like in West Texas and
like Arizona and New Mexico, they're like cactus because it's everywhere.
But I mean here in Houston, you don't really see
wild growing cactus. Like you go to like the like

(06:10):
I was gonna say, the grocery store. Yeah, actually, hi,
b does You can buy a cactus at hib but
like a plant nursery or whatever, and you can buy
a cactus there, But you never really see them growing
wild unless somebody just kind of plants in their front yard.
But so it's kind of I don't know. I just
think it's cool. I think it's cool to see rocks
in the wild. I think it's cool to see cactus

(06:30):
in the wild.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
So I know it's sometimes you're not used to seeing.
We see rocks all the time.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Our kids are playing with rocks all the time, not
big freaking rocks. Well yeah, I don't talk about eating
climb one.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Anyways, today, well let's see this week.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Actually shout out to someone real quick.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
That's like the worst segue.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Shout out to me.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
I said, totally cut that out.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
I'm just trying to where.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
It was like whenever we were filming the show and
producers would hate it because like you know, we're in
a conversation or whatever, but it's like a tie in
conversation that we need to tie this scene to another
scene either later in the episode or whatever, tie to
storylines together. They're like, hey, just make sure you mention

(07:35):
this thing and whatever we are talking about today, And
they would hate it. And whenever you'd say like, oh,
and speaking of.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Like you had set it up, and they're like, don't
do that, just make it come naturally, don't go and
speaking of and.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Then just like go into it, They're like, this is terrible.
Or it was also like I would add on to it.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
It was like, hey, we just need you to say
that repeat this and stop, like, don't keep going. But
then when you have to repeat it, you just keep talking.
They're like, no, we can't have you keep talking.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah, just made an isolated sentence from you right now.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yeah, so what's your what's your sentence?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I actually wanted to just to mention our sponsor for
this episode, which is Good Ranchers, And it was funny
because like my segue for Good Ranchers is because I
have some beef today to talk about in this episode
and it's sponsored by Good Ranchers. That was going to
be my segue. Okay, well I got some beef. This

(08:42):
beef sponsored by Good Ranchers today, this episode sponsored by
Good Ranchers today.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
But well I got some chicken.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
If you got a good ranchers dot com, it's one
hundred percent born, raised, harvested American meat delivered to your
door and you don't have to worry about all this
mystery meat. Man. I saw a video the other day
on Instagram and I posted it to my story because
it was just so disgusting this meat that somebody follow

(09:09):
from publics and it was like.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Go, oh yeah, it looked like slime.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
That's probably the meat that's coming in these container ships
from other countries that you have fewer regulations and stuff.
And so that's the problem. I mean whenever, like a
lot of the stuff you see at the grocery store.
You know, some stuff is getting raised overseas, it's getting
slaughtered overseas, and it's put put in container ships. Ger

(09:37):
how long does it stay in that container ship to
get to the United States. No clue. But as long
as they finish the final packaging in the US, they
can put a USDA label on it and say it's
a product of the US. And that's a big loophole
in the law right now, the country of origin label
law that needs to go. Yeah, but that's why we

(09:58):
order from Good Ranchers. Everything's one raise harvested on in
the United States. You can use the code Buzzby at
checkout for forty dollars off plus free meat for the
life of your subscription, so you kick a free item
that goes along into your box every single month. You
can even pick and choose and change what free item
it is over the course of the months if you

(10:19):
want to try something new. And so thank you Good
Ranchers for sponsoring this episode.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yep, and let's get back to the beef talk.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah, so what's your beef?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Well, well it's not what's for dinner? What's your beef?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Well, it can be what's for dinner.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yeah, we do need to think of dinner.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Okay, beef's the topic today. What's your beef?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Oh, it was just about what happened to you the
other day at the Optimologist.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Oh I've already I've already overcome that and got over
that because more beef's happened.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Oh really, No, I so to catch you.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Guys, you're gonna get me all fired up again.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
If you didn't, if you didn't see Daniel's Instagram story
the other day, and and I kind of refrained from
posting anything because I'm still kind of angry about it.
I wanted to literally drive there and go speak to somebody,
and I thought, well, that's probably gonna be a bad idea.
But I mean, this is so ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
That's what I called you, And I said, you better
be glad that you weren't here, because we would have
all been embarrassed.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Okay, so we have a daughter, Hazel. I'm sure all
of you that they're listening to this episode this show. No,
we have Hazel. She was born with congenital nice stagnas,
which is an incurable eye condition makes her eyes constantly flutter.
Early on in her life of nice stagnas, she's had
to have multiple eye surgeries to tighten.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
And no, she's had one surgery for.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Multiple surgeries on that incorporated both of her eyes. And
so it requires, you know, every year, you go to
at least probably two follow ups every single year just
to make sure that everywhere from two to five follow
ups everything still working properly. There's no need for an
additional surgery and stuff like that. She has to follow

(12:14):
up with a specialist. And you know, the doctors early
on that did the surgery, they ended up relocating to Dallas,
relocating to Dallas and also Austin. The doctor did actually
did the surgeries in Dallas right now, but whenever they moved,
we were just trying to find a doctor. More to this.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
We traveled to Austin for years.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Yeah, and I mean this was probably what two years ago,
three years ago where we finally said she's been on
such a good track, let's try to switch to a
local p ophthalmologist specialists and nice stagmus too in our
area so that we're not traveling so much and taking
a whole day and you know, both Adam and I
can make it to appointments and blah blah blah. So

(13:01):
we switched to a doctor and it's been fine ever since.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
But I mean early on, I mean, obviously we followed
Hazel's journey naturally, we have. We had a television show
for ten years that followed the life cycle of Hazel's
journey with Nice Stagnus. You know, all the doctor's visits
and stuff like that. We do updates and and travel
to the doctor with the TV crew and stuff like that.

(13:26):
So whenever we switched to the doctor that she was
going to. As of late, we're still filming the show.
You know. We brought it up to him, Hey, like
we've we've been following Hazel's journey. We'd like to film there.
They didn't want us to film there, and so after
the appointment, we're like, well, we still have to cover

(13:48):
this on the show and give like an update, and
so like after that that appointment, like we went outside
and like we went all the way off property, past
the sidewalk out on the street.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Just so we could do like a what happened at
the point just.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
To do like a little two camera interview with me
and Danielle just kind of talking about the appointment and Hazel,
and that was it, you know, like we didn't we
didn't talk about who the doctor was, the location, anything
like that. And then, you know, over the course of
the last few years, we've been going to the same
doctor and I think there was like one incident early on,

(14:25):
like we had, you know, brought in a camera with us.
We brought a go pro to do you know, because
we have a YouTube channel, we follow this stuff, and
we just kind of get Hazel's reaction in the doctor's
office or whatever. And you know, they I think they
mentioned something, hey, we don't really like you know, filming
and stuff in there.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
So I actually I was using my phone. I just
had like my phone and Hazel to get her eyes dilated.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
So we're like, okay, filming like and then and then weird, look,
it feel like yeah, and it's all like focused on
Hazel and just like her reaction and her talking through
and stuff. It's not like filming the and like having
the conversation with the doctor and the eye examine. It's
not really any of that. It was just like specifically
focused on Hazel, but they probably didn't know that, and so, like,

(15:11):
you know, we'd have a conversation with them and they
were like, Okay, yeah, we don't really like to do that.
So we're like okay, and so we never did it again,
probably the extent which probably most parents do whenever they
take their kids to the eye doctor, they take a
photo of their kid just sitting in the chair.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
And I've done that since Hazel was a baby.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Yeah, and so so I've always done that, but it's
never been in any chair in any it's never been
with the doctor around. It's just literally to see her
growth and how she sits in the chair versus when
she used to have to sit in my lap.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Yeah. So Hazel has been going to the same doctor
for multiple times a year for the last I don't
know how many years.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Two or three years she's just seen and.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Then all of a sudden, out of the blue, you know,
Hazel has an updated update appointment to go to this
doctor before the school year just make sure everything's fine
going into this school year. And Danielle shows up at
the doctor's office for her appointment that was scheduled, confirmed
all the things and she walks into the office and

(16:15):
they said, miss Busby, we need to have a conversation
or something like that, pretty much like so Danielle has
daniel has Hazel with her, and like three h Parker
and three of our other points.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
So I was like, all right, whatever, y'all can totally come.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
It's fine, and I thought it was I'm pretty sure
this was the appointment. It was like the big appointment.
So the dilation would have to do once a year
and like all of it, and so I check in, okay, yeah,
and then the guy was like, just want to make sure,
like we don't do any videos for I'm.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Like, yeah, I know, I haven't done that years down.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I brought in her broke glasses, she picked out a
new pair to swap him out, blah blah blah.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
And then he comes back, sub can can we chat
with do you ever?

Speaker 6 (17:00):
Hear them?

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Like all right, And since Hazel wasn't by herself, I
was like, all right, girls, y'all sit here. I'm gonna
go over there. And they walk over there, and I
mean it was just it was just poor, poor customer service.
And I like, thank you for bringing this back up
on the emotional days that I've had these last couple
of days. I don't want to think about it, but

(17:22):
it's like I just can't get over the fact that,
like basically the doctor doesn't want us as a patient because.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Of the public of our family.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Because of the public nature of her family.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Even not saying a name, not saying the business, nothing,
we will talk about Hazel's eyes because we have always
shared that part of our life with Hazel's journey, and
they don't want to be tied to it at all.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
And I'm like, she.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Says she's uncomfortable to perform services services with our family,
and so instead of knowing that we have I mean honestly,
I mean, Hazel's gone there multiple times a year for
I don't know how many years, and then all of
a sudden, out of the blue, like I haven't done

(18:15):
anything new, we.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Haven't seen since the last checkup, which was six plus
months ago.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah, all the all of a sudden, out of the blue.
So they have this in mind, and instead of a
phone call knowing that Hazel's appointment is on the books, instead.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Of confirm my point, yeah, they confirmed me.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
And so instead of a phone call saying saying this
or ask for getting the kids ready driving them up there.
They're gonna have you drive to this office and then
pretty much like kick you out of the building. Mm
hmmm whenever you get there. Like I was furious. What

(18:56):
was like, it's such a really such a bad business.
It's I mean, he.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Did say it was his fault, and I said, what
somebody's fault?

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Because this is unlike got the words I said, but
I had good words.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
I didn't make up words at that time. I had
good words.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
So like I even I even went to this particular
I even't like had multiple appointments. That's where I did
my eye appointments because Hazel was there. And so it's
Coastal Ie Associates in Webster, Texas. No, I don't care,
like they need to be held up accountable, Coastal Eye
Associates in wester Webster, Texas. And and it's absolutely ridiculous.

(19:36):
I mean it was. It's the worst customer service, like
horrible business. Like you don't just do that to people,
Like if you if you want to have a conversation,
you don't want to do business with this, that's fine.
Let us know ahead of time before confirming an appointment.
Having a mom and four kids drive up there and
then pretty much kick them out of the building because

(19:59):
you don't feel comfortable because we have a public family.
It's so ridiculous. And to top that off, Danielle was like, okay,
like that's fine if you don't want to if you
don't want to see Hazel, well, since she needs, you know,
this level of care, can you please give us a
recommendation of another doctor we could see.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
No, I didn't say that.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
What did you say? I said, what other doctor can
we go see? I said, so.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
They're not wanting to see Hazel today? Correct?

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Is there someone else that we're going to be able
to see today? Since y'all confirmed my appointment, we released
your services last year, I said, release what services? No
one has notified me of anything, So I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Did you confirm an appointment?

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Then?

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Why this appointment was made? This is a follow up
appointment from the last appointment. And I did have to
reschedule it because we were out of town over the
summer and it was rescheduled to this date and so
it didn't make any since And I said, so, what
you're saying is you let me waste my time coming

(21:06):
in here so that you could tell me y'all don't
want to see us because we will share our story
about Nice Stagnus with Hazel's journey. I'm sorry, I will
be happy to take my services elsewhere, and thank you
for this inappropriate conversation that you just have had with us.
And I walked out and I said, let's go, girls.

(21:30):
They no longer want to see the buzzbies. Yeah, And
I left, And now Hazel's like, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (21:36):
But he did mention something about, oh, she can, she
can probably gee.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
She probably doesn't need to even see an optalmologist. You
can see an optometrist. And I was like, no, I
feel most comfortable seeing an optalmologist because we are not
just here for I vision, which is fine and I'm
not saying anything wrong.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Against the optometrists.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
We see someone who specializes with nice Agnes and working
with nice Stagnis. She's a specialist, and that's where we
feel most comfortable. It was already a hard deal to
switch a doctor in walking through that journey. Now to
just be like, oh, you don't need like, don't tell
me what we need, like you don't know my daughter.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
And who are you even anyways to tell me this?
Like I've seen your face one time, and you have
nothing like just.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Getting me fired if you're a credible vision practice. You
know our daughter's history. She has a congenital eye condition
that requires has required surgeries in the past and multiple
and follow ups every year to make sure that everything's
going well with that. It was you know her history,
and then you're gonna say, oh, she's she can just

(22:44):
go see an optometrist. And maybe she can't be there.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Maybe there is a great optometrist, but as sure as heck,
I'm not going to anyone at that place because that
was just.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Ridiculous. However, I do have to go pick up her
new pair of glasses when they come.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Oh, I'll go anyway, give me give me some names.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
No, And I think it's very It's this this podcast
is not about like blasting other people or whatnot.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
They've never experienced. And I don't think it's.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Appropriate for you to necessarily put the name of the
company out there that I have talked. I've talked about
it and I've never shared that because it's not about
specifically that.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Well, they made it personal, so I'm gonna make it personal.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Well, y'all got adam beefed up.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
It's Burley Boat, that's my beef.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
So it's not at all what I was planning on
talking about on when this happened that day.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
You could have sat me in this year and I
probably could have been really fired up about it.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
I want to stand at the street with a sign.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Oh you do that with a side in the nine
hundred degree whether I want to go see you do that?

Speaker 6 (23:56):
Yeah, So anyway that fires you up to what they do,
what they did the Hazel Grace, go leave them a review.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
All right, and we're going to take a little break
in shout out to our sponsor, the one and only
Good Ranchers.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Good Ranchers. So just just over the last year, close
to four billion pounds, billion pounds of meat was imported
in the US from other countries and it all ended
up in grocery stores with a label on it that

(24:38):
said product to the US.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
And once I figured that out, Once I found that out,
like it just kind of turned everything upside down whenever
it comes to like what meat we buy and stuff.
And so that's why that was one of the main
reasons why we ultimately ended up subscribing to Good Ranchers
at the very beginning. I mean honestly, before I even
started doing work with Good Ranchers. We were subscribers for

(25:03):
probably close to a year and a half two years,
and then we ended up developing a relationship realizing, oh, crap,
they're just down the road because because stuff does get
because stuff does get delivered from like their fulfillment that's
not necessarily coming from right here in Fringswood, Texas. And
so once we realize that, we ended up kind of

(25:24):
developing a relationship with them. But you know, you just
have peace of mind with Good Ranchers knowing that everything
is hormone free, antibiotic free, and it's all one hundred
percent born rais harvested all in the United States. Yeah,
And so you can go to good Ranchers dot com

(25:45):
and put the code buzzby and you'll get forty dollars
off plus free meat for life of your subscription. And
so it sounds like.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
A lot of meat when you say free meat for life.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
I know, so like every month, like you can you
can actually whenever you subscribe, you can actually choose what
that free meat and tells like.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
The addition to like whatever subscription box you're picking, So
you can pick from different forms of boxes you want,
like what kind.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Of cuts, what meats you want? Do you want steaks?
Do you want chicken? Do you want the nuggets?

Speaker 3 (26:18):
All the things, But you actually can get an additional
free item, is what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Like bacon seatable free chicken nuggets, And you can also
as long as you're subscribed, you can actually go in
and pick like, oh, I want to try this next
month for my free item, and you can go through
change it. It's hassle free subscription, like if you're going
out of town or you just got a full freezer,

(26:45):
you can delay your orders or anything like that. It's
all super easy and straightforward to do online. And so
you can go to good ranchers dot com use code
and Buzzby use a code buzzby.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Forty dollars off plus plus free meat for life life.
You also can do Good Adventures dot com slash Busby
and check out our curated Busby box of our favorite
things that we eat on the weekly, and it includes
the seed all free chicken nuggets, which I'm telling you

(27:20):
you're never gonna want to eat different chicken nuggets. You're
never gonna want to eat different type of meat. I'm
not a person who's like, oh, I'm like Adam can
be like, oh, this stick's great, this stick's and I'm
like meats meat, But I like, I'm not saying this
because when they sponsor, it's just true. It's true. I
remember when I ate that hamburger one day and I

(27:42):
was like, what in the world is this?

Speaker 1 (27:45):
It's so good.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
I remember that first time.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
I literally was like at running out the door to
an event and I was so hungry, and I was like,
took a bite and I'm like, no, I got to
eat the whole thing, and like, I finally discovered a
different taste of.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Meat when we encounter Good Ranchers meat.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
So it's real, it's true, and it's American homegrown and
it's amazingly tasting.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Is that good word?

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Amazingly kind of flubbed it a little bit, but it's
all right anyway.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
So thank you Good Ranchers for sponsoring this podcast. We
love y'all.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Yeah, Good Ranchers, American meat delivered.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
And listen.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
I think what above all that, I understand that if
someplace doesn't want to be filmed, like I've always been
okay with, it's not it's part of our it was
part of our life, and we're asking and if it's not.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
Okay, completely fine, we will not do it. Okay.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
I just thought it was very disrespectful that I was
not told ahead of time and we were left on
the schedule and confirmed everything to almost embarrass us in
the place. And I'm just saying, like, thank goodness Adam
wasn't there because he would have made a scene about it,
And I just think it was bad, bad business and

(29:08):
bad customer service. We I don't feel like, you know,
some people might come back at me and say, well, oh,
you're the parents that are sharing this journey.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
We've made it very clear from the very beginning. We
feel we feel that God has called us to share
our story.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
It comes with good, it comes with bad, and you know,
that does make a level of quote unquote I hate
the word exposing because we're not exposing our kids.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
We are sharing a glimpse of our life.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
And so even the parts that we do share and
the parts that you've seen on Outdaughtered or whatever, it
is only it's still it is only a glimpse. So yes,
there is a level of exposure, but we feel we're
trusting in God as far as like how we are
doing this and how we have always done this, but
we feel called to share our story and you know,

(29:59):
walking that level of like nice stagmas. I didn't know
anything about nice stagmus until we had Hazel. I've never
even heard the word, honestly.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
And so and we've gotten i mean thousands of messages
from other people who have or have children with nice stagmis. Yeah,
how just sharing Hazel's story has helped them and they've
that and they've been able to ask us questions and
stuff like that and get advice and whatnot and about surgery.

(30:27):
So sharing Hazel's journey has helped a lot of other people.
And that's the whole reason why, I mean, that's why
we're doing this podcast, that's why we've done our TV show.
Like there's aspects of our story that helps other people,
and that's why we encourage other people to share their story.
And so that's what we're doing.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
But even what's beautiful to continue sharing Hazel's nice stagamas
journey is that it is to show you that because
when we were in that level of she's a baby
and you're getting all these different opinions and we even
like multiple doctors, multiple opinions between me and Adam, and

(31:08):
like what is best to do and really just try
and take a leap of faith and saying, Okay, God,
like I don't want to.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Do surgery, he wants to do surgery. Is this the
right time?

Speaker 3 (31:17):
No, we should wait till they're older, We should wait
till they can have feedback, blah blah blah. You know,
if you do it now, you're more than likely going
to have to have another surgery and another surgery. And
it's just to go and say that, like, sometimes we
just can't always make the best decision that we have to. Really,
as Christians, we say we seek, we seek advice and

(31:41):
decision making based on prayer, and we pray about things
and we decide based off of convictions and prayer. Okay,
So we did that and we ended up having hazel
surgery when she was probably about fifteen months old, and
Adam wanted to do it, and I was like, I
really want to.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Wait till she's older. I just feel like it's not
the right time.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
And we went through we waited months, through that, walking
through that, and she's ten years old now and she
has yet to have another surgery and her and her
like I'm telling you, so there is hope in even
when the outcome, I mean, this is this is part
of which I'll actually we love to bring up later.
Part of sharing your story is encouraging people of stories

(32:22):
of hope too, because Hazel has an amazing journey story,
because she is an example of even when they say
you might have to have another surgery a year, you
might have Saba ten years from now. We're at the
ten year mark almost and she hasn't had to have
another surgery, and her vision has continued to improve. And

(32:42):
you know, so I want to be able to share
that to tell parents that, like, there is hope. You know,
we always thought Hazel might not be able to drive
because her vision was not good enough. Well, Homegirl sees
like twenty thirty for the first time. Her last follow
up visit was the she ever claimed on the eye chart.
She saw some letters on the twenty thirty mark. That

(33:05):
is incredible. That is incredible. And you know, we've gone
through eye patching, We've gone through different you know, horrible
like super strong lenses and different lenses and different I
like lots of different things that we've pretty much I
feel like we've shared everything, and it just I don't know,

(33:25):
I just want other families to know that like just
because the doctors say this doesn't mean that that's always
going to be the outcome.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
There's always or also just because you read this, yeah,
and that was like us at the beginning, always reads
whenever we found out she had a nice stagness. And
then you just like get on the internet and start
reading about it, and you know, you read, you know,
the gamut of people that have this condition, and you

(33:56):
know it can be from considered blind to can have
a normal functioning life. You just don't know. It's like
such a wide range of you know, diagnosis that you know,
you kind of get a little nervous and paranoid and
stuff and you're reading, you're reading all this stuff like, oh,

(34:16):
she may never be able to drive, she may be
considered legally blind, like all this stuff. And then it's
also there's no there's no cure for this condition right now.
You know, she's going to struggle with this for the
foreseeable future until there's some sort of medical breakthrough, which
there hasn't been other than just like treating specific symptoms

(34:37):
through surgery or you know, vision optics and stuff like that,
and you know, so, you know, we've been open about
sharing our story of Hazel, you know, through this whole thing,
because it has been inspirational and it has been eye
opening for other parents who have kids with this condition,
and it has open doors to be able to have

(34:59):
conversations stuff with other parents that have, you know, kids
with nice stagnus and you know, just even get some
feedback from them, like whenever they just find out that
their kids dealing with this, or are they notice Hazel
you know and her eye flutter and stuff and they're like, oh, well,
you know, that's what my kid's eyes are doing right now,

(35:19):
and so it causes them to seek help and stuff
and so.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
Or just like I think, I think the first thing
that we noticed was like Hazel's head tilt, like she
would turn her head and her eyes would go to side,
and so what was happening. Well, we noticed the eye
involuntary eye movement when she was about four months old,
like yeah, four months old, she was at home, out
of the NICU at home, and that's when we discovered

(35:45):
the movement and stuff. And so it started from like
her being four months old. You know, she can't really
see she doesn't see color at that point. She like,
you know, there's a lot of vision growth that still
had it happen. But we've been on this journey since
she's been four months and she's ten years old now.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
So doesn't mean it's easy.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Doesn't mean that, you know, if you're listening to your
children and or you have nice sagmus, like, doesn't mean
you're gonna have the same outcome, doesn't you know, it
might not be the same journey, but just know that, Like,
we also have met other people with nice sagmas, and
it's given us great opportunities to have conversations about like, hey,

(36:24):
you're an adult now, like.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
What's life is? What's it like?

Speaker 3 (36:29):
Like how do you and they can better verbalize what
life is and how things are you know, and driving
in this and blah blah blah.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
So I don't know.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
I mean, it's a journey that she'll live with forever
because there's no cure for it, like we've said, but
I don't know. We just got fired up because I
was completely caught off guard and blown away by the
fact of that, and I was like, dude, I mean,
there's no cameras with me, like I got four kids
with me.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
I don't know what you like.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
I'm just so confused, and clearly doctor was uncomfortable with
just us coming in. But I just think it would
have been appropriate to give.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
Us highly inappropriate way they handled it, give us unprofessional, Yeah, impersonal.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
So I moved on from it.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
So we don't normally do this. And I don't know
if we've ever just like caught out a company like this,
but we didn't.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
You just did.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
I just did because I'm angry and I shouldn't be
speaking out of anger, but it's very personal, and you
did it to my wife and children. I'm gonna call
you out on it. So I wasn't there to have
a conversation with you, but I have a platform to
have this conversation right here in public. I just know.

(37:48):
I just saw yesterday. It was like on multiple tabloids
picked it up. It was on the front page of YouTube,
I mean not YouTube. It was on the front page
of Yahoo from your story really see all that. It
got a little traction last night, even just Danielle sharing
it on her story. So I don't sending my review.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
All right, So we're gonna wrap that beefy story up
and speaking of speaking of telling your story.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
Are you doing an intro one of.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Those things we talked about that earlier. I was taking
it full circle to the beginning, okay, but I didn't
say that speaking of sharing your story and okay, Daniel
has something to share, that wasn't going to be my
intro into you did it to me?

Speaker 1 (38:43):
I know, I know, I know I didn't know I
was doing it to you, but.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
So man, probably I know, if you've been listening to
the podcast, you know, like number one fans of the podcast,
you know, we've talked about out me putting on like
a women's event, and God's been telling me like formalize
this like women's ministry, and so I know, I you know,

(39:12):
podcast always gets like the first of the first accept
a beef. I talked about your beef on my story
Instagram story, and then then the podcast got the beef beef.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Yeah, we're still going on and I got this.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Streak client, but I have shared that, you know, I've
been writing books and we have some children books coming out,
trying to create a women's ministry, and we're gonna be
I'm gonna be putting on a women's.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Event this fall and so.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
Like now it's like official. Okay, I don't know what
that means to you, but it feels like it's to me,
like I have a date for the event. So if
you want to put this in your calendar, the date
has not been exposed out and it's.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Not going to be launched. O.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
You shared a link before.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
No, that was a link to sign up for the
information for when it announces, which that email.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Is let's go out today.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Thank you for that. But because we love y'all and
we want you to do the first.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
The date, so you want to put this a new
calendar is going to be October seventeenth. It is a Friday,
and it's going to be an evening event. So just
mark your calendar and reserve that day. And if you're
wanting to come from out of town, schedule your planning
to be here for Friday, October seventeenth. And more details

(40:37):
to come. But that event is going to be the
first women's event that I'm putting on.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
I'm so super excited about it.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
The whole ministry is called the Heart of Her, and
so you will see if you follow me on Instagram,
I actually launched that Instagram account and sent the first
post out last night, and so it's like happening. It's
like happening now, like happening.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
I did the walk.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
Through today with one of my friends who's helping with
a design and everything, and it just made it all
feel so real. And it's all coming together for the event.
But the ministry itself will be filled with resources, events, conferences,
lots of good stuff.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
And it's all about.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
Women encouraging women and women supporting women because we know
a lot of this world is filled with women against women,
not necessarily because we really do it on purpose at times,
but there's a lot of doing it on purpose and
a lot of comparing. But it's about let's come together

(41:48):
as women and as moms and as friends and as
sisters of Christ, and let's encourage one another. And the
event is going to be about sharing stories of hope
and encouraging one another's and walking a lot life with
Jesus and some.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
Great, great music.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
It's going to be so exciting, and I just I
want to say all of it right now, but I'm
not going to because there's so much to kind of
like prep towards that. But it's now out there to you.
October seventeenth, Okay, so put that on your calendar. Yes,
Adam will be there too, I will, and we're gonna

(42:29):
have okay, I'll just keep on a little bit, so
have about four or five speakers I will be sharing.
I've got some other people and another kind of like
celebrity figure too that will be there.

Speaker 1 (42:42):
October seventeenth is the.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
Day of the event, and we will be doing a
pre launch like early birds sell tickets. So make sure
you're going in following heart of her Instagram page. Website
not quite there yet, but it's it's it's almost there, okay,
but Instagram is where you're going to see the first information,

(43:06):
so make sure to go follow that.

Speaker 1 (43:08):
And we're super excited. It's gonna be it's it's gonna
be so good.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
So good.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
Yeah, beautiful, just like your burly boob.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Anyways, let's wrap it up, Yeah, wrap it up. So
thanks for listening.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
I feel like we joked a lot, got spicy, and
then got really excited.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
At then got mad, got happy. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
Okay, yeah, I still have a lot to talk about
it from this week, so maybe we should just end
this podcast and start another one.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
Oh really yeah?

Speaker 1 (43:45):
Wardrobe change, Yes, please wardrobe, change yourself.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
Anyways, Love you guys, Thanks for listening. See you in
the next one, or hear to you in the next one,
or listen to us in the next one.

Speaker 2 (43:59):
Yep, don't forget you like. Subscribe to all the things YouTube, Apple, Spotify,
and Instagram. We're all over the place, so thank you
guys that have. If you haven't already, it's free, so
go out and do it.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
Show your love by liking it.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
To the story. Sometimes we get spicy, sometimes we get sentimental.
Sometimes we share nuggets, sometimes we share family stuff. Was
a little spicy. We were mad? How is mad? But
all right? Episode more than reality podcast. We'll see in

(44:39):
the next one. All right, Love you guys.
