I’ve been hearing two loud but different messages on how you should approach the month. One is to Finish Strong. Buckle down the last few weeks of the year. Do whatever you can to make holiday sales.

The second message is to Finish Light. Rather than attempt to finish the year strong, do as little work as possible. Set your business aside for a bit.

Not sure which of these you should choose? Listen to find out my suggestion. I even share a short exercise to help.

(00:00):
It's almost the end of the year. How are you feeling. If you're
excited by all the goals you accomplished, okay, go youth and congratulations,
that is amazing. But if you'renot excited and instead a little sad because
you didn't get nearly as many thingsdone as you thought you would, that's

(00:20):
okay too. You did the wholeNew Year, New Goals thing. Maybe
you created a vision board or drafteda twelve month plan to go along with
it. You may have even startedworking out last December to get ahead start
on this year's health goals. Thecalendar turned and you hit the ground running,
and then life happened, trip youup, and he fell off again.

(00:43):
That's okay. It happens to thebest of us. The question is
what are you going to do aboutit? I've been hearing two loud but
different messages on how you should approachthis month. One is finished Strong.
As soon as December first hit,a good part of my social media timeline
was filled with quotes like You've gotthirty one days until the end of the

(01:07):
year. There's still time to reachyour goals. Finish strong. I even
did a podcast episode on it afew years back. It sounds promising enough,
right, Bubble down the last fewweeks of the year. Do whatever
you can to make those last minuteholiday sales. Consolidate twelve months of goals
into one and get out there andnow, if that excites you, go

(01:30):
for it. But what if itdoesn't. The second message I've been hearing
is to finish light, to finishthe year in a soft way. If
you live in a cold climate likeme, the trees are shutting their leaves
now, there's a chill in theair that doesn't go away when the sun
comes out. Even the animals arepreparing to hibernate. The thought behind finishing

(01:53):
light is to model your December inthe same way. Rather than attempt to
finish the year strong as little workas possible, set your business aside for
a bit, spend your days doingall the personal things you usually don't make
time for. But what if youdon't want to do that either. My
suggestion just finish the holidays can behard as it is, and if you

(02:15):
add in that pressure of running abusiness, it's a lot. That doesn't
mean it's time to prove yourself bygoing hard all December. It also doesn't
mean to abandon your goals. No, it means give yourself the grace to
assess where you are, how youfeel, and how you want to inju
your year. It's about ignoring thoseoutside voices, especially any experts who make

(02:39):
you feel bad for the choice thatyou want to make. Here's an activity
that can help. Set aside afew hours to block everyone else's voices out.
Get quiet, set up your spaceand the most relaxing way possible.
Maybe light some candles, turn onsome music. Take out a piece of
paper and a pen or your favoritetech tools, and write down the top

(03:02):
three things you want to do thismonth. You may want to write down
ten things don't. Once you finishthose three, you can add more,
but start with three if nothing immediatelycomes to mind. Here's some suggestion.
Reflect on how your business went thisyear and why it went that way.

(03:23):
Sip something hot while watching as manyholiday movies as you can, play games
with your family. Pick a wordor phrase for next year's name journal more.
Get back in touch with your bodythrough exercise. Read a few of
those books you said you'd get toone day. Look at your subscriptions,

(03:46):
both business and personal, and cancelwhat you know you're not going to use.
Try out a new recipe. Writeout all you and your business accomplished
this year and do a mini celebration. Catch up with loved ones, go
outside and play. Identify who youmight want to work with next year as

(04:08):
either a client or a partner.Give your employees or contractors some time off
and actually leave them alone. Howyou finish your years up to you.
Don't let any one shame you intothinking otherwise. As always, if this
episode resonated with you, please letme know in the comments, like,
