Speaker 1 (00:00):
Today's affirmation is my voice matters. This episode is especially
for two kinds of people. One you've been sitting on
a message that you just know is going to help somebody,
but you haven't shared it yet. And two, you have
shared your thoughts, but you felt like your message went nowhere.
(00:24):
Should truth be told? These scenarios often go hand in hand.
We gather our courage to share. We put out that
social media post or that article or episode, product service,
whatever it is. We put it out there, and we wait,
and we wait a little bit more, and the reception
just isn't what we wanted. It's not what we envisioned,
(00:47):
and so we tell ourselves, you know what, maybe that
next message, that next idea, I think I'm gonna hold
on to it for a little bit longer. You can
even start to feel like your voice doesn't matter, but
it does. What you have to say is not stupid.
I don't care if somebody else told you that it
(01:07):
was tried to convince you that it was the dumbest
thing ever. I don't even care if you tried to
tell yourself that it's not dumb. It's not stupid. It's important.
Your message matters. It wouldn't have been put on your
heart to share if it wasn't meant to help somebody else,
and it will help somebody else. I'm sure that's happened
(01:27):
to you in the past, where you've shared something, maybe
didn't even know why you were meant to share it,
and someone came to you and was like, oh my gosh,
that is exactly what I needed. That type of influence
hasn't changed your message matters. And then another thing that
I hear that I've even said myself, is ah, why
(01:49):
do I need to put my voice out there? There's
already so many people talking about it. Okay, true, but
they don't have your perspective. They're not you. And so
to test that, I did a quick check on a
website of a famous store and I have one of
these in my neighborhood. It is a grocery store that
(02:11):
also sells other things, and they have almost one hundred
and fifty varieties of coal cereal just in the store.
So if I go to that store when it opens up,
walk down the aisle, I will see almost one hundred
and fifty different types of coal cereal. And again that's
just col cereal, not oat meal. None of those other things,
just col cereal. And then I expanded my search and
(02:35):
if I wanted something shipped to meet, that opens it
up to almost three hundred different types of cereal. And
I think about that the same way as your message. Okay, well,
if everybody wanted the same thing, and everybody wanted to
hear the same thing, why would there be so many
different options? So sure, yeah, the general idea might be
(02:58):
similar to other things you've heard. It's like I can
go down that cereal aisle and say, oh, well, this
might be oats, and this might be wheat, and this
may be some other something. But there's something unique about
each and every one of those serial brands. And again,
same with your message. There's something special about it. It
might seem similar to other things that you've heard, but
(03:20):
yours is different. There's a way that you're going to
spend that message that will only resonate with certain people.
Your people. Your voice matters. My voice matters. Let's repeat
that again. My voice matters. And if you've already started
to put it out there, just because your message hasn't
(03:41):
reached the masses yet doesn't mean it's not important. Like
I said earlier, I know It can be frustrating when
you finally work up the nerve to put something out
there and it feels like nobody's listening. It feels like
you're just talking into the void, but your voice still matters.
I think about the serial exam. Yes, I know this
(04:01):
is a big store, but think about that one hundred
and fiftieth cereal on the bottom shelf off in the corner,
probably feeling like, Ah, no one's buying me. But if
you know anything about merchandising, someone's buying it or else,
it wouldn't be there on the store shelf. Though. Yeah,
I think of it a little bit like the message
(04:22):
that you're trying to put out there doesn't feel like
it's going to go anywhere. It doesn't feel like anybody
is going to resonate with it. But they are. You
just have to let them get there, which actually goes
hand in hand with my next point of do not
despise small beginnings. So again, do not despise small beginnings.
(04:43):
Your one hundred impressions, ten likes, and two comments might
seem like really much of nothing when you compare it
to someone else who has hundreds of thousands of all
of those different metrics. But what might help is changing
your perspective a little bit. Instead of only looking at
these metrics as numbers, look at them as people, because
(05:04):
that's what they represent. So take a second and picture
yourself walking off of a stage. You've just delivered your
message to a crowd of one hundred people, and as
you head to the back of the room, ten people
stop you along the way to say, oh, my goodness,
I really like your message. Like no, I really really
(05:25):
liked your message. And then once you get to the
back of the room there's two more people. They're waiting
to engage with you. They just want to tell you
about those specific parts of your message that help them.
They want to talk to you about what got them excited.
So those ten, excuse me, those one hundred impressions, ten likes,
(05:45):
two comments don't seem so small when you look at
it this way. You have something important to say. I'm
going to repeat that you have something important to say,
say it voice matters, My voice matters. And then we're
going to repeat the affirmation one more time. My voice matters.
(06:10):
This week, I want you to put that affirmation into
action by using your voice. I want you to find
some public or semi public medium to share a portion
of your message can be online or can be offline.
It's your choice. But to share your voice, share a
little snippet of your message, it doesn't have to be much.
(06:30):
I mean, if you have it in you to do
a whole thirty minute speech or podcast or live or
go somewhere and do a workshop, that is amazing. But
if you only have a little bit that you're comfortable
sharing right now, that is perfectly fine also, And once
you've done it, let me know I want to cheer
(06:50):
you on. You can either add a comment or connect
with me online using the link in the description. I
just want to celebrate with you, because I know how
difficult it can be. If you've convinced yourself or let
other people convince you that your voice doesn't matter, it
can feel like what's the point, And then once you
do it, it kind of still feels scary. And sometimes
(07:13):
people go in and say, oh, I finally delivered that
big speech and I'm exhilarated, and that's great. And then
there's others who say, well, I shared this little, tiny
piece of my message in this far off corner of
the internet, and I'm still scared. Perfectly okay too. Whatever
(07:33):
you could do this week, use your voice, let me
know how it goes. And again, I'd love to celebrate
with you and cheer you on and help you use
your voice more. Now, before we officially sign off, I
like you to repeat today's affirmation a few more times
with me. We're gonna say it three times. My voice matters,
