Speaker 1 (00:02):
You've got the Morning Sprint with Coach and Raj podcast.
Listen live every weekday from ten am to noon on
Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five and on the Altitude
Sports Radio App.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I've talked with coach Gannon. We'll have a plan for
Thursday and you know, similar similar to in years past,
we'll use both fields, so we'll have that mapped out
pretty clean. Friday will be separate, which would be normal,
and then of course we play the game Saturday.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Night on to Denver tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
What do we got It shouldn't be too much. You
want to see done differently than you had last week.

Speaker 5 (00:42):
I want improvement, you know, I'm doing some things in practice.
I won't do any games that I'm testing for the season.
I want our guys to, obviously, you know, play at
a high standard. I want finish, I want I want
great covers, I want great rush, and I want good football.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
One of our best players, he's excited to be back.
You know, it's cool to you know, practice or play
in close to your hometown or your hometown. We got
a couple guys Colorado, but he means a lot to us.
He does things the right way. He's a Truce pro
pro pros pro and a really good player for us,

(01:16):
So glad we got him.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
It's gonna be a good it's gonna be a good matchup.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Looking forward to it.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Obviously he's a good young receiver, so it's gonna be
I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
It's gonna be so good.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
Way Patzertan Vance, Joseph Sean Payton, John Gannon, all of
them live out here at Broncos Park, powered by Common
Spirit for Joint Practice number two. The Arizona Cardinals are
in town. They are on the field. There's a different
energy today, there is a buzz. It should be phenomenal

(01:51):
today as we welcome you into the morning sprint on
Altitude Sports Radio ninety two to five. The coach Mike Sanford,
Alex Ryan. I mean, all of our coverage here on
Altitude is brought to you by Ramost Law, the official
injury law firm, partner of Broncos Country. Our final day
at Broncos training Camp twenty twenty five, and it should
be a banger of a practice.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Good.

Speaker 7 (02:10):
I'm really excited about this. Looking over at five foot
seven and a half inch to Kyler Murray or so
small size but he's Raj, Raj, you're shaking his hand
and you're looking directly into his eyes. Now, that is
a short quarterback, but a highly athletic quarterbacks. It's got
a lot of abilities. It's just great to be out here.
It's great to be out here and seeing two teams

(02:31):
not full pads. I like to call it full pack
jacket ten bills today. It's gonna be a whole heck
of a lot of fun to watch these two teams competing.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
I love it. Today even we get a whole lot
more of a of a look at the Denver Broncos
offensive line. There.

Speaker 7 (02:44):
They're now moved down to the side that we're at
right here on the north side. If I'm not mistaken,
Raj of this practice facility, and we're watching quarterback.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Center exchange south side, coach southside.

Speaker 7 (02:54):
All right.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
I don't have great sense of direction apparently out here.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
But Valor is behind us right now. Okay, so that's
probably your old house is in front of us. Okay,
so my new north is Valor true north, Yeah, but
it's south. It's south of us, right.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
We won't try to make that make any sense to
any of.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
Our mountain The mountains are that way all our line
in quest.

Speaker 7 (03:16):
Today you get some real competition. I love hearing that
from Vance Joseph, like his what's he looking for different
than what we've been doing? Improvement, Like that's terrifying because
they've been they've been almost impossible to.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
Move the football on for the last Yeah, you know,
when when the weekend comes around, don't give up a
fifty one yard reception on like the third play of
the game is a is a piece of improvement. But no,
the defense has been phenomenal. What you're really looking for
is improvement out of the offense. You are looking for
the same positive energy that happened in the first half

(03:53):
of joint practice last week with the San Francisco forty
nine ers when it comes to your first team offense, right,
we heard that Bonnicks was clicking.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
They looked good.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
However, the forty nine ers were able to bounce back
at the second half of practice. You want a full
day where the offense looks like it's clicking, because well,
that hasn't happened yet this offseason.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
No, it sure has.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
I think that's gonna come today. I'm looking forward to it,
you know, showing up today. You know, it's so interesting
just watching the cultural differences of two franchises. The Denver Broncos,
every single player has their helmet on. They're going through
walkthroughs with their helmets on. Not one player outside of
the quarterback Kyler Murray wearing a helmet during the actual walkthrough.

(04:37):
For the Arizona Cardinals, everybody it's leads off there somewhere
completely off to the side, and that's how they do
their walk through. I've Roger, I've never seen that before.
I've never seen a practice walkthrough where you are technically
in full pads to start the day off, you went
to a locker room and put on full pats, and

(04:58):
then you do a part of practic without a helmet on.
Very different. I mean, it's a little softer culture in
my opinion. Not the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
They're there today to banks some heads today as we
get ready for this joint session, and I'm assuming our
first team session is going to start in about twenty
five minutes from right now. As my guest, as you
go through walkthroughs pre practice stretching routines for both of
these teams, the music is now down, it'll pump back
up in about ten minutes from right now, walk me through,

(05:28):
walk me through this morning as a player, as a coach,
how it differs from your normal day of practice.

Speaker 7 (05:35):
I just escalated. Everything's escalated. As a coach, the details
have to be on point. The communication part of it
has to be has to be dialed. Your script has
to be right. So all these plays are prescripted, agreed upon,
generally speaking in terms of the practice periods. But you're
not gonna give the Cardinals your play calls. You're gonna

(05:55):
give them most likely the personnel grouping that you're gonna
be in. So the defense can structure organized practice so
as to match their defensive personnel. We've talked about the
Broncos based defense. You would see instead of at j
Kwan mcmilliner as Jade Baron at the nickel Sam position
against like twelve or twenty one personnel meeting a heavier

(06:16):
jumbo set with two tight ends or a full back
and a running back in addition to a tight end,
you would see more Jonathan Cooper playing that Sam linebacker.
Potentially Jonah ellis playing that Sam linebacker. So I think
the competitive juices are flowing. I could tell that this
Denver Broncos team is excited to get a chance to

(06:38):
hit somebody else. The difference about this year from a
year ago is that you already went through this exercise
a mirror week ago.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Today.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
He did it against the San Franco forty nine ers
in Santa Clara, and all returns that we heard of
were very positive about how the Denver Broncos offense performs.
Certainly in that first first part of practice. I think
that Sean Payton in particular, I think both somebody's he
wants to.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
Come out here and have a good day start to
finish it consistent.

Speaker 7 (07:06):
Dake, take what the defense gives you, Maybe maybe test
the waters down the field a bit, and just come
out of the day feeling confident.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (07:13):
I wonder even if you get to that point where
you have a tremendous day to day, you might just
play two series against the Cardinals with the starting gated offensively.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
Jonathan Gannon told Paul Calvic, who joined Mosia, Lombardi and
Kane about fifteen twenty minutes ago, that the Cardinals are
playing on figuring out if they play their ones coming
up this weekend, all based on what happens today at
joint practice, which makes me think, especially with how like

(07:42):
how ready the Broncos look for a joint practice as
compared to what's happening on the west side of the field.
You did mention it. I thought you were kind of
being tongue in cheek or maybe even a little bit
home or there. There's a vastly different feel very right now,
very like it looks like the team is ready to
play football. In the other one, the other guys are
kind of like midway through coffee.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yeah, they're just kind of hanging out. They're kicking it.

Speaker 7 (08:02):
Some guys have helmets on now, most guys don't. They're
kind of milling around. Talk about the Cardinals right now,
where's the Broncos man? This is a tight ship. I
mean Sean Payton runs a tight ship, and you see
the differences. Not to say that that John Gannon is
is not the type of head coach that runs a
tight ship. It just feels it feels a little bit
more millennial, feels a little bit more gen z.

Speaker 6 (08:22):
I wonder if this is out like, does this how
a Nick Sirianni training camp feels like? Though probably right,
that's that's where Gannon from his teeth it's.

Speaker 7 (08:31):
Where he's Kellen Moore and the Saints now right, That's
that's where they cut the Shane Steichen and the uh
in the Indianapolis Colts, they all really are Nick Sirianni,
you know what they are. They're beneficiarias of of Jalen
Hurts and the Toushbush, all of those coaches and the
really really really gifted defense in terms of their personnel.

Speaker 6 (08:53):
The energy hasn't felt like this all training camp. Long man, guys,
I I can't tell you how different it feels on
the eastfield as compared to the West field for and
right now. And maybe it's because we're close with the
Broncos side, but I have a feeling that when we
get into a first team practice like white on red
today and the Broncos are in white with the Cardinals

(09:15):
in red on red, redtops and red bottoms, a lot
of Cardinals, isn't it. I have I think this is
setting up to be dominant today.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
So what it feels like if I'm reading into that
now too much, not at all.

Speaker 7 (09:26):
It feels that way to me too, And I remember
a year ago I felt the same way about the Packers.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
The Packers came in a little bit.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
Did you feel like it was like almost like the
greatest show on turf for smelling themselves from you know,
their their first year starting quarterback, had just won a
playoff game at Dallas.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
My guy, I feel like they were an.

Speaker 7 (09:42):
Overconfident bunch Cardinals just like a Cruisers out here, like
hey man, just another practice, have fun, let's just kick it,
hang out like there's not that doesn't feel like the
same intentionality that the Denver Broncos have as they took
the field.

Speaker 6 (09:55):
All the reason why Bo Nick's in the first team
offense like this is your time to step up and.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Said something cool sets up for that.

Speaker 7 (10:00):
And that's where we saw that last year when the
Denver Broncos played against the Green Bay Packers in a
joint practice that that was a bit of a turning
tide of for Bonix coming off the Colts preseason game
and then going into a second really competitive environment was
against the Packers and joints practice, and you saw bo
take that next right step. So it's really what the

(10:22):
doctor needs to order today, and that's for Bonis to
have a great deck.

Speaker 6 (10:26):
Your favorite individual matchups that you are looking at today.
I think obviously, we heard from Patzertan in the open
speaking about Marvin Harrison and his most sits down in
front of us. Calvis talked about Harrison's put on twelve
pounds in muscle. He looks like another tight end alongside
Trey McBride. I'm looking at Patzertan, Marvin Harrison Junior. I'm

(10:49):
also looking at what Trey McBride does against the Broncos
injured inside linebacking court.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
Yeah'll be honest to see who's fully up. I don't
do we have a report yet on Nick Bonito. If
he's if he's in full pats, and if he's out
here competing, then we'll get that information to you as soon.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
As we can.

Speaker 7 (11:04):
I know Andy Lindahl will be out Okay, he is
out today, which is right on brand with what d
mack and I talked about last night on Training Camp Recap.
It's a perfect time to maybe shut her down. You
just put it really good stuff on film that shows
that you're maybe even above physically where you were a
year ago with thirteen and a half sacks.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
Better pay that man. Gotta pay that man.

Speaker 7 (11:24):
The no drama, no drama Training camparage and we've been
talking about.

Speaker 6 (11:27):
It's still no drama, dude, Everyone's everyone thinks this is
a Broncos thing. I am so convinced that this is
not the Broncos going, hey, we don't want to give
you a contract. I'm so convinced that there is a
contract on the table and Benito's camp is going, you
guys want us to sign that before Micah Parson signs
his deal in Dallas? Are you kidding me?

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Well, that's the case.

Speaker 6 (11:47):
There's no way Denver's just waiting to sign you. I
bet you there's a contract on the table and they're
just waiting to see if the market shifts. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (11:53):
And so the question is is he more than twenty
five million annual average value at seventy five total care?
It's hea ter is he more in that thirty five
ninety category? Because I think that's where where the drama
comes in, Raj, is where Nick Benito's camp and Nick
Benito himself might see himself versus what the Denver Broncos
decision makers see him personally. You and I brought up

(12:15):
I think he's right in the middle the line of
demarcation thirty. You think it's thirty, Yeah, okay, So that
brings him above Josh heinz Allen and Jacksonville, above Brian Burns,
above as Fhilton Williams as he should now different players,
certainly than the Hilton Williams is. My number is Nick
Bosa at thirty four. So that's a I don't know

(12:36):
if the Broncos are there and what we talked about
why they might not be there. Percentage of total defensive snaps,
what do we say? It was sixty nine percent.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
Shorter than that. I think he goes sixty two. Jeez,
it's in the sixties.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
Whereas we looked at the bosas the healthy one, not
the one at the Buffalo Bills, right, the healthy Bosa.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
And Samarrett Crosby Watt, those.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
Guys are eighty five plus percent of total defensive snaps
and they are bona fide run destroyers in the run game.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
We'll take a quick time out stretches going on here.
It's joint practice, our final day at Broncos training camp,
twenty twenty five. Altitude Sports Radio ninety two to five.
Coach Mike Sanford, raj it's the morning sprint. We'll be
back in a couple of minutes with updates from training
camp and more on our favorite matchups that we're about
to see you with the Broncos and the visiting Arizona Cardinals.

(13:25):
Back out live the Broncos Training Camp twenty twenty five,
our final day out here at the Valley courtesy of
our friends at Ramo's Law, the official injury law firm
partner of Broncos Country, just a few minutes away from
our first team periods here between the Broncos and the
visiting Arizona Cardinals, coach Mike Sandford, Alex Tryan Emmy, and

(13:46):
we are joined by Mile High Sports, his own the
host of the Lockdown Broncos podcast. He is Cody Rourke.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
Cody, what's up, brother, Good morning, gentlemen. Great to see
you here once again.

Speaker 6 (13:55):
Great to see you man. It is a different energy.
I want to get into in just a second, your
favorite matchups that you're anticipating, your individual matchups that you
absolutely have to see today. What we're speaking about in
the opening segment was there is a not only is
there a shifted energy today, right, It's very clearly a
big day. There feels like there is a different energy

(14:17):
from this field as compared to the field farther away
from us and where I see this, the Arizona Cardinals
feel like they're here to practice, and the Broncos feel
today like they're here to perform.

Speaker 8 (14:28):
It feels like a game situation here today, and obviously
assimulated scrimmage is you're gonna bring that environment there. But
you know, I think for Denver, they want to come
out fast. I know offensively, they were not happy with
how they performed in San Francisco, you know, in terms
of that first three series that they had with the
first team offense, and so about coming out.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Here maybe getting a different look.

Speaker 8 (14:48):
They're going against at four to three defensive scheme this
week in this practice, where they went against a four
two five last week. So different guys, different skill sets,
and I think, you know, a young secondary for Arizona.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
Obviously you have.

Speaker 8 (15:00):
Some very talented guys there, Buddha, Baker, Will Johnson, who
was before his injury, was projected to be a top
five pick at one point. So I think that everyones
come out and make a statement here today because I
don't think we're gonna see the starters play more than
fourteen snaps on Saturday.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
Cody, what do you think with regards to Bo Nicks,
the importance of today has been a fairly uneven training camp.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
If anything, not wildly bad. Has it been turnover heavy
per se?

Speaker 7 (15:25):
There's been a couple of days where there was an
interception or two that would have counted in lieu of
any type of penalties. How important is today for Bonix
is for his own confidence and for Sean Payton in
this offensive unit to feel like they can start the
regular season and not have to play much more from
a preseason.

Speaker 8 (15:43):
Yeah, the goal is to start fast, you know, And
obviously for both I would say, you know, in terms
of the conversation, what has his camp been like last year's. No,
but I think that the looks were a lot different.
I feel like there hasn't been this element where the
bad has outweighed the good. Bo's done some really good
things out here too, But you want to see him
do things that he did consistently last year in the
regular season, right So you're expecting him to get off

(16:04):
to a fast and a hot start right here. But uh, yeah,
the Broncos they got to come out fast today. They
did last week, but then they had a little bit
of a let up in that joint practice against San
Francisco down the stretch, So can you maintain.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
Throughout the entire Take us through that from what were
you at in San Francisco. No, I did for everything.
Everything you were all the accounts there.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Yeah, take us through a little bit just what that
looked like for the Broncos offensive unit on fire early
there certainly was a play that everybody talked about. Bonix
hit Devon male cross, yeah, across his body.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
Throwing just an off platform dime. And then what what
did you hear?

Speaker 7 (16:40):
As it relates to kind of the second half of practice,
the joint the joint practice, so.

Speaker 8 (16:44):
Kind of that final move the ball period, it really
slowed down where Nick Posa was reported he had got
a couple of sacks in a real game situation there,
So that backs you up a little bit, and then
you don't convert on that third down play and so
I mean, realistically, you have a long field, you're not
going to.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Go for it there.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
Well, Sustain, sustained, sustain.

Speaker 8 (17:03):
That's the theme of the day here. And I know
Broncos suscrimagine. I know you've got a scrimmage later on
as well. Come, I sure do, man, It's fun for me.

Speaker 7 (17:09):
It's two programs, two franchises that are on the same
field together, and it just feels different.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Today.

Speaker 7 (17:17):
I woke up feeling differently, and I can guarantee you
even more so that both Broncos and Cardinals coaches and
players felt significantly different today.

Speaker 6 (17:25):
From an individual standpoint, we obviously know the marquee matchup
on the field. Today's Pats or Tan and a newly
heavier Marvin Harrison Junior. Interesting in about eleven twelve pounds.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
He looks massive, bigger, massive.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
According to Paul Calvc, reporter for the Arizona Cardinals, eleven
twelve pounds heavier than last year, says, when they get
into the huddle, it feels like they're in thirteen personnel
because he might be the extra tight end in there.
Outside of that matchup, there are any other individual matchups
that you have to see today. It doesn't necessarily have
to be wide receiver or it can be anywhere on

(18:01):
the field.

Speaker 8 (18:01):
Well, you know, I want to see Denver's receivers have
a good day. You know, Will Johnson apparently he has
had a pretty good training camp for them. In a
z you know, you always got to worry about those linebackers.
In the middle of the field. They're very athletic, hybrid moved,
you know, the side silents, Avon Collins being one of them.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Kalay Is Campbell, the old veteran Colorado Guy's.

Speaker 8 (18:17):
Still kicking and going, so he'll f's.

Speaker 6 (18:20):
Good for him.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
What high school did Klais Campbell go to? Does that? Me? Know?
Top of your head, not the top of my head.
I can't remember.

Speaker 6 (18:26):
Was it?

Speaker 4 (18:26):
Ah? I know our Texas are gonna rolling in.

Speaker 6 (18:30):
My guess is Chatfield. But I bet you I'm completely wrong.

Speaker 8 (18:33):
Well, I hated coaching against Chatfield when I was when
I was coaching high school ball here, I always disliked it.
No I I for me, I think matchup wise, you
want to see the wide receivers have success against this
young secondary. But I also want to see can these
running backs with this competition elevating behind JK.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Dobbins R. J.

Speaker 8 (18:50):
Harvey, can two guys emerged to get those final two
spots apparently that the Broncos may carry over into the
fifty three. You want to see someone try to create separation.
These reps are gonna matter. But then I think once
you get to the preseason game, it's the whole body
of work. So is there any build up? Is there
any momentum carryover? I think that's what we're Denver South
High School Campbell.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
I love that South.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
Those running backs. Who's your pick for me?

Speaker 8 (19:16):
I think Tyler Badet right now has got the hot hand.
I like Blake Watson. I know he and Sam Mellinger
had a couple of bots snaps and and you know
on the exchange yesterday. But Butday's also playing a high
level role on special teams. We heard that from Darren
Rizzy yesterday that you really like what Bidet's bringing to
the table. And I just think what Sean has highlighted
about his ability to pass, protect, catch out of the backfield.
You see the explosive nature of him as a obviously

(19:38):
a tailback. I think that's where you're gonna see that,
And you know, I want to see some more from Jelu.
McLoughlin felt like last week had a nice run and
got called back, So it doesn't really highlight I think
where Jalil is at. But it seems like these other guys,
these younger guys have kind of been rising up a
little bit.

Speaker 7 (19:53):
What have you seen so far out of uh just
the tight end group. Evant Ingram had a bit of
a quiet day from from all accounts. You know, obviously
at the preseason game, we all watched that, but even
I didn't hear a ton of Evan Ingram at the
joint practice. Seems like there's been a bit more of
an intentional nature of getting into the football this week
in practice.

Speaker 8 (20:11):
I was gonna say, I mean, for me, I feel
like some of the things where we're not seeing Evan
Ingram as much in practice. Part of me is I
wanted your opinion on this, because you you coach, and
you look at the game a different way than a
lot of people that has it seemed intentional to you
in a sense that they're not really showing out here
what they really fully planned to do with Evan. I
feel like we saw more looks he played more inline
in the preseason game than we saw out here at

(20:31):
practice right him, And it just seems like they're not
focusing so much here in practice on hey, let's let's
heavily feature Evan Ingram. I've been surprised because really he's
been catching passes and being featured a little bit more.
Jer Stidham and the second team offense, but I think
that's I don't know it sneakily by design.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
We'll see.

Speaker 7 (20:48):
What do you make of Jared Stidham and it last
last year at this time his training camp was average, Yeah,
to blow average. What do you make of Jared Stidham
and just his performance not only in his first preseason
game was nearly flawless, but also what we've seen on
a daily basis.

Speaker 8 (21:02):
I mean, I think I think he's been very steady, right,
Steady Stidham, that's the nickname I've heard from some some
players that have called him steady. And look, he's had
a great training camp here, And I think the number
one thing that stands out to me is in today's
NFL you need to have a very good backup. You
need someone if if your starter goes down or gets
banged up, you need someone that can go in there
and run the system. Now, obviously athletically, Jarrett's not going
to do some of the same things that bo can

(21:24):
by nature, but he knows Sean's offense. He's been in
at the longest and now he's continued to evolve his
stature as well. So I've been impressed with Stidham. I
think the Bronco has got a really good backup quarterback,
and there's no controversy. I know some people already trying
to stir it up, but there's no controversytidam is very sweat.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
I agree.

Speaker 6 (21:41):
So last question before I let you get out of here,
about to get into what.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
I'd say maybe a one on one.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
We'll have to see what it is in a couple
of minutes. We were talking about obviously Evan Ingram in
the tight end situation with the Broncos, but the other
marquee player that is here maybe the best tight end
in football in top five tight end receiving or receiving
tight end football. And Trade McBride, another kid. You spent
a lot of time here, obviously a start at Colorado State.
In terms of one on one matchups, who do you

(22:11):
think it's the most reps against him? Who needs to
step up?

Speaker 8 (22:13):
Well, I think you're gonna see the safeties. I think
Brandon Jones, Talano, Hufonga. I mean, primarily in this defense,
Denver safeties are going to cover the tight ends. There's
gonna be times where your nickel defender is going to
have to cover them, But I think primarily we're gonna
see Whufonga and Brandon Jones get a lot of reps
against him, which is good. I think that's a great
test for them because Denver's gonna face some really good
tight ends this year. You've got some great tight ends
inside the division and on the schedule, So can you

(22:36):
can you answer it? I think Brandon Jones has the
ability to cover, and I think Talao Hufung is very
underrated in the past cover game as well. So that's
who I'm eyeing here in these one on one situations.
And when you get to the move of the ball team.

Speaker 7 (22:47):
Period a little bit later, well, we got to get
our guy Cody Rourke out there because he charts every
single play, have great information. Check him out on Locked
On Broncos podcast and yes, update from practice. This is
a seven on seven period, so I love it appears
that they skipped one on ones and went straight to
seven on seven. You have one on one pass pro
reps going on between the the d ends and the

(23:07):
offensive lineman.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Cody, get out of here. We appreciate you, John, I
appreciate you guys so much.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
So thanks.

Speaker 6 (23:13):
That is Cody Rourke of Mile High Sports and the
Locked On Broncos Podcast Coach seven on seven period right
in front of us here about fifty yards in front.
We thought we were gonna see some one on ones,
but no, seven on seven is how we start today.

Speaker 7 (23:28):
It sure is, and we're watching both fields are are
essentially they're they're calling the plays in the general direction
coming our way, and Kyler Murray gets things started, nice
little check down and then Bonick just moving the sticks,
looking to get in rhythm there with an early completion
to Adam Troutman, which I think it's a good sign.
It's a good sign for bod just get that first

(23:48):
completion under your belt.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
Cody was talking about how he's very intrigued to see
the safeties covering Trade McBride today. My question to you,
as a head coach, knowing that you are going to
be playing a defensive joker that you afted in the
first round out of Texas. He is a smaller player,
would you throw him into the fire and see, hey,
what can you do against a bigger player like that.
I know he wouldn't be really tasked with covering a
tight end like Drey McBride during the season, but it

(24:12):
is something that you want to see because well, these
reps they matter, but they don't matter from a score
and a records team.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yeah, I'd think you'd love to see if you can
hold up in coverage.

Speaker 7 (24:21):
Trey McBride's an interesting tight end because he's not sixty six,
he's not six to seven.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
John A. Barn can handle his skill set, right?

Speaker 7 (24:29):
Which is which is I would say the modern prototype
of a little bit more the joker role, Right, it's
not the the sixth the extremely long power forward in
basketball that happens to be playing football. Yeah, like Evan
Ingram is a long six three two forty. The Marvin
Harrison Junior is putting on an absolute show. Two completions
in a row, one on a slant against Pats or

(24:49):
ten the second and then just kind of a downfield
fifty to fifty ball from Kyler Murray on a bit
like if it was a wheel route and he went
up and high pointed the football.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
He looks different. There there is anybody.

Speaker 7 (25:00):
On this field that looks like him at the wide
receiver position on either team. I'm just gonna tell you
that's it. That is what a bonafide one looks like.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
In the national football He didn't look like it. Last year.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
Yeah, and he was. He was fighting through some injuries,
I think some overtraining rookie year. I think he found
his ideal weight.

Speaker 7 (25:16):
That guy's a freak, and I didn't I wasn't necessarily
in love with him coming out of the combine process
and my film evaluation of him. Great catch right there,
bo Nix just hits Patty Bryant on a dig route,
kind of threw it behind him a little bit, both
throttled him in a nice open zone and Pat Bryant
makes a great, really off off balance, out of control

(25:38):
catch that that are really high degree of difficulty.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
He's your safety blink at this year.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Man, he looks great.

Speaker 6 (25:44):
Man, He's the reason why you don't really seriously kick
the tires. And a guy like Keenan Allen during.

Speaker 4 (25:49):
The they wear the same jersey. Nomber I know almost
look like him, right he does.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
And it looks like that's pounding the tables like why
isn't that guy in camp? But you can fit him in.
You have the money to bring him in on a
one year deal. Well, the reason is because you drafted
a player like that to be a third and seven,
a third and five specialist, where he's gonna find a
soft spot even if you throw it behind him like
Nicks just did on like a little fifteen yard slant.
It was behind him by.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
Well end up being like a dig route.

Speaker 7 (26:15):
But it so that that inbreaking dig route, which is
like you said, about fifteen yards, you flatten it off
and Bo kind of want I could tell BO wanted
him to throttle in the hole.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
Oh, just sit down a little bit, like, just kind
of choke it down a little bit.

Speaker 7 (26:28):
And so as a as now the veteran quarterback throwing
to a younger receiver, I always say that you can
train the receiver with the football.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
Like I wanted you to throttle right there.

Speaker 7 (26:38):
Therefore he feels that, oh that was a little awkward
body type of a catch. Next time I can choke
it down and get into that area against that particular.

Speaker 6 (26:45):
You can see that in zone entries in hockey too.
A guys who are elite punk movers when you have
odd man rushes, whether it's a three on two or
four on two, four on three, gaining the offensive zone,
throttling down your speed to screw with the defender right
because like those in a one on one situation where
I'm a forward and there's defender backing up into his
own goal. Throttling down creates your separation even without the puck.

(27:10):
A little bit of an overthrower? Was that Jared still
sure it's dead?

Speaker 7 (27:12):
I mean kyries rowing the Utah State undrafted free agent
gets completely open and it's shown a lot of flash
with speed, but just a bit of an overthrow.

Speaker 6 (27:21):
Walk me through pacing on routes and how you coach
pacing right, because like not every route is run at
one hundred percent the whole time.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Wow, it's interesting.

Speaker 7 (27:29):
So you want to give the illusion of one hundred
percent every route and I think hockey'd probably be the
same thing.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
You want.

Speaker 7 (27:34):
You want that defender to get completely in their their
defense mechanism. I've got to get over the top on
every route. So the way that I coach receivers in
that way that I've seen the Broncos, you want max
effort on your initial stem because you want that corner
or that nickel or that safety, depending on who's on
you and coverage, to feel the vertical speed. And if

(27:56):
you're if you feel vertical speed, it terrifies you. And
if terrified, than it opened up opens up all of
the different routes that you can run a slant, a
quick out, a deeper out, a curl stop route, a
post route, and so you want you want that corner
to get eaten up in terms of the cushion that
he gives that receiver. And so yeah, the initial speed
is really important and then the continued illusion of speed.

(28:20):
Just see a one on one that's a great route
right there. To my point, right there, Evan Ingram lined
up as a single receiver out there by himself. So
I think imagine that the formations where Cortland Sutton is
the ex wide receiver isolated on a corner by himself.
That was Evan Ingram running a dime route, which is
a ten yard stop route.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
He gave the visual that he.

Speaker 7 (28:43):
Was going down the field and then number sixteen, the corner,
Max Melton was playing very top down and ended up
getting the separation both through an absolute great ball.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
There.

Speaker 6 (28:54):
It is a younger Arizona Cardinals defense. I know we
talked about the longtime NFL vet ley As Campbell being
out there as a pass rushing defensive end. But they
are young. Like you still have Budda Baker who was
a second round draft pick. He's going into his fifth year.

Speaker 7 (29:09):
But that corner I was talking about too. I mean,
Max Belton was last year's second round draft pick.

Speaker 6 (29:13):
You have a starting corner in Will Johnson who probably
should have been a first round draft pick this past
year after getting injured. Josh Sweat comes over from Philadelphia,
now a veteran guy, but can make big differences. I'm
really excited to see what this first team offense can do.
They have been clicking on all cylinders and seven on

(29:34):
seven Jared Sidham and the twos did not. But you're
enthralled by something that's happening. Yeah, you're hardfield.

Speaker 7 (29:39):
We heard some applause right there from Broncos Country. That's
here in attendance. Ja Kwan McMillan was tested down the
field by Kyler Murray wheel route and I believe it
was to one of the running backs and I'm trying
to find his number as far away so I was
trying to figure that out. But Jaquan McMillan gets tested
on a fifty to fifty back shoulder and he he.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Ends up winning the drill in the air and high.

Speaker 7 (30:02):
Points the football. Is a tremendous play by Jaquon McMillan. Man,
you know what the think about ja Quon McMillan is
the dude makes place, consistently makes place. Patser Tan right
now in a very contested play on number four. Greg
dortch the five to seven eighty pound wide receiver out
of wake Forest Free Agent just a couple of years ago.

Speaker 6 (30:22):
You can put me in pads.

Speaker 7 (30:23):
I'd passes that tell you what. Greg Dorts just climb
the ladder on PS two. So maybe maybe maybe our
predictions of energy aren't necessarily materialized.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
It's been good back and forth.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
Then PA is gonna be releasing the schedule in full
round one PM today and guys, that is great news
for you. Much like we did with the Colorado Avalanche
earlier on this summer, listeners is gonna have the chance
to enter to win a pair of tickets to not one,
not two, but three home games of your choice in
the Lower Bowl. Stay tuned around one PM today for
more details. You can check out Altitude Sports Radio dot

(30:55):
com for more information on how to enter those or
enter to win those tickets. Coach Mike Sanford Homraj. This
is Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five live from Broncos
training Camp twenty twenty five. It's joint practice day with
Denver and Arizona.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yeah, he's the best probably in the business right now,
you know, or one of the one of the top couple.
I got a high, high opinion of that guy. It's
gonna be good. It's gonna be good. Back and forth,
it'll be I know, he's excited. All our got all
our receivers are excited, tight ends are excited. You know,
he's a premium player that has has done a really

(31:31):
good job and it's going be a good challenge for
our guys.

Speaker 6 (31:33):
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon talking about Pat Sartan and
his looming presence today out at joint practice between the
Cardinals and Denver Broncos. Welcome back into coverage of training
camp twenty twenty five here on Altitude Sports Radio powered
by Rob most Law, the official injury law firm partner
of Broncos Country. The final day that we are out here,

(31:54):
the energy is flowing. The Broncos look ready employees to
attack today. The seven on seven period from the offense
in front of us looked great, but dicks, while maybe
a couple of throws behind receivers was fine, didn't have.

Speaker 7 (32:06):
A Yeah, I looked good, made some good decisions, checked
the ball down and he needed to got some early completions.
And then I'd say the play of the period for
the Denver Broncos offense, good on good one to oh
versus one D was the dig throw which was a
big boy throw from Pat Bryant, or to Pat Bryant
from bow Nicks, which was which was a behind a

(32:28):
throw behind him. And I thought that was a good
throw behind Pat Bryant, meaning that you are you are
telling Pat, young player in the National Football League, that's
where I want you to throttle your speed down.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
And ultimately Pat learned from that.

Speaker 7 (32:41):
I think it's great that that's why that play was
significant to me. The most impressive physical specimen out on
this field that's not named Nick Nick Benito, who's clearly
not out here right now, it is Marvin Harrison Junior.
You can see why that guy was a first a
top five draft pick just a year ago.

Speaker 6 (32:59):
Is it not? The guy who's walking across the field
in the eighty five Cardinal Red Jersey.

Speaker 7 (33:03):
He's a great I'm just talking about pure special, pure freak, yes, freak,
freak of nature. It's I mean, you look at Marvin
Harrison Junior. It's the combination of his arm length so
he can go up in high point footballs. But then
he's got this thick lower half man like he is.
His play strength is going to go through the roof.
For all you fantasy football players, I know nobody cares

(33:24):
about your fantasy football team. Certainly nobody cares about my
fantasy football team. But that's a guy that I would
make sure that I would draft this year.

Speaker 6 (33:31):
News from Adam Schefter out of the AFC West Chiefs
wide receiver Rashid Rice is expected to have his disciplinary
hearing with the NFL coming up on Tuesday, September thirtieth
in New York. That means Rice is likely available to
play for the first four weeks in the season for
the Chiefs this year. There could be some potential disciplined
Could he be suspended for four or five six games

(33:53):
this year? Probably we'll end up getting a hefty suspension,
But that means he gets to play the hardest four
game stretch of Kansas City season. Games against the Eagles,
games against the Ravens, and at the LA Chargers. They
won't have a spot like that for the rest of
the year. So well, the rich, they kind of get richer,

(34:14):
they sure do they skirt an issue?

Speaker 4 (34:16):
Yeah, yeah, man, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (34:19):
Is Rashi Rice the type of player that has commanded
consistent levels of respect with regards to his availability for
the Chiefs organization. It feels like he's spent very uneven
in the last three years. So whether it be for
health reasons for off the field issues, well.

Speaker 6 (34:37):
Certainly last year really only played you know, four games
last year, but as a rookie he had that nearly
thousand yards seven touchdown season in sixteen games. So the
data set is very small in Rashi Rice. But like
if he jumps back into a guy that was getting
offensive Rookie of the Year votes in twenty twenty three,
then yes, he becomes terrifying. And I do think if

(34:57):
they expect him to bounce back to that having him
for the first four weeks in the season and then
getting suspended, that only helps the Kings of the AFC West.

Speaker 7 (35:06):
Yeah, and you got to think that if you have
a Rashi Rice that's back healthy a part of the
offensive rotation the receiver position, clearly Rashi Rice would be
your number one receiver you know, not named Travis Kelcey,
but wide receiver that probably unlocks behavior worthy as a
player that probably doesn't command as much double team attention, safety,

(35:27):
top down, over the top of corners attention. And he
is a he's a player that is terrifying with just
simply with regards to his speed.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
So just.

Speaker 7 (35:37):
I think the Chiefs are gonna have a bit of
a bounced back performance offensively.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
I know they went to the Super Bowl, but did
it not like.

Speaker 6 (35:43):
They lost like two games, So I don't know how
much of a bounce back.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
Well, we talked about it yesterday.

Speaker 7 (35:47):
Man, the dever Broncos were a top ten offense in
points per game.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Outside of the top ten was the Kansas City Chiefs Rush.
They were outside of the top ten. This is Patrick.

Speaker 7 (35:56):
Mahoons, the Witch and all of all the the heks
that have gone with the Chiefs organization with a lot
of those vets.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
They got issues in their offensive line.

Speaker 7 (36:05):
They've been inconsistency at the receiver position, to say the least,
the running back position. While at times it finds it
it seems like whoever is available to play ends up
getting you know, eighty to one hundred and twenty yards rushing,
but that started to curtail a bit last year, especially
with the injury to Isaiah Pacheco, whose running style just
doesn't appear to be something that is built for the

(36:26):
long game. He's a violent cutter man, and it started
to play out when you watch him.

Speaker 4 (36:31):
You know, he's always that guy that's always cutting so violently.

Speaker 7 (36:35):
Sure enough, he's had lower extremity issues over the course
of the last year.

Speaker 6 (36:39):
Now for this Rashi Rice news to actively affect the Broncos.
If he's able to play the first four weeks of
this season, and he plays that you know, Sunday, September
twenty seven game, then he goes to his was in
a hearing on the thirtieth. There's a possibility that the
Broncos would have would be able to face Kansas City
without Rashi Rice in the in the lineup. Their first

(37:02):
game is Sunday, November sixteenth at home against Kansas City.
If it is a seven game suspension that comes down,
he would end up missing that game before the Broncos
go into their bye week in week twelve.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
You'd love to play against the Chiefs team that doesn't
have Rashi Rice.

Speaker 7 (37:17):
That's the that's the bottom line, and especially if he's
coming off of a little bit of rest and recovery,
then I think that's that's something that ultimately you'd love
to see, you know, is if you're the if you're
a Chiefs fan, is him back and ready to go?

Speaker 4 (37:32):
But what kind of see how it plays as it goes?

Speaker 6 (37:35):
It has finally happened. A local news organization in Atlanta,
Georgia has misspelled Michael Pennix Junior on their their bottom
Third graphics. They put an S instead of an X
at the end of the name. And it makes me
incredibly happy today.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
Thanks Rash. Take it easy on my guy. Okay, all right,
it's my guy, My guy, it's too good man. Was
that intentional?

Speaker 7 (37:58):
I just can't believe it is that intentional by that
news organization.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
What was it? What was the Is it WTOC eleven?
They seem like West News Leaders, They seem like SOLF,
They seem like that as the channel in Atlanta that's.

Speaker 7 (38:12):
Probably fifth out five, But now everybody's talking about WTOC.
That sounds like really really stupid intentional branding In marketing.

Speaker 6 (38:21):
If I'm running the graphics department and I've been there
for years, I'm doing it once and seeing if I
can make it stick.

Speaker 7 (38:28):
All right, enough with your little childish Michael Pennox Junior
misspelled stuff. We've got eleven on eleven team Broncos offense
right in front of us. Bow knicks JK Dobbins on
the field, and we'll see how this all plays out.

Speaker 6 (38:43):
It's a hand off to JK. Dobbins on the left
hand side. He gets swallowed up for no gain on
your first play of eleven on eleven. We're playing up,
not tackling to the ground.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
It looks like yeah, and no other side of the field. Yep.

Speaker 7 (38:55):
Trey McBride with the twenty seven yard completion from Kyler
Murray on a naked This appears to be a period
that I would call team run play action pass where
it's not pure drop back.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
The emphasis is on team run.

Speaker 7 (39:09):
It's a great way to keep a defense and an
offensive line honest, whereas an inside run droll where you
don't have wide receivers on the perimeter, it's not a
realistic drill and ends up leading to a lot of injuries.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
As Bonix hands.

Speaker 7 (39:23):
Off a beautifully executed draw that in a Sean Payton offense,
that's called the H two draw play JK. Dobbins showing
that burst and looking looking really good right there on
the second.

Speaker 6 (39:33):
You mentioned before practice started the conversations between both coaching
staffs to make sure that joint practice goes smoothly and
is as efficient for both teams as possible. You mentioned
that they know the script. How in depth is that
script in terms of the guys that are actively on
the defensive line right now for Arizona going against Bonix,

(39:54):
how how much do they actually know about what's being
called against them?

Speaker 4 (39:57):
They don't know the plays at all.

Speaker 7 (39:59):
All they know who's going to be on the field
because you have to match your personnel. Like that play
in particular, that was a zone read play where kind
of peared that bo Nix was reading one of the
interior defensive linement or it was just a complete missed assignment.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
But that play was swallowed up Us Robinson, who is
a defensive tackle. Yeah, what's it? What's his his listed size?

Speaker 6 (40:22):
He is six five missoo.

Speaker 7 (40:28):
So this is all all predominantly run and there's the
first play action of this team run play action pass
Bow ends up getting scrambled, getting flushed from the pocket.
Probably would have been hit at the line of scrimmage
after he takes off, And that was Mac Wilson Senior,
the linebacker out of Alabama in his seventh year that
snuffed out Bo turning on the Jets and was in

(40:51):
perfect position in live football to most likely corral before
he got to line of scrimmag.

Speaker 6 (40:55):
So you simply know personnel packages and that's it on.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
Both that's it.

Speaker 7 (41:00):
Yeah, just they don't share the plays, but the intent
of the drill. So this this play, this is as
you can see, none of these runs or none of
these play calls have been just pure drop back pass.
It's been all off of some type of run action
or just pure running up.

Speaker 6 (41:16):
Julia McLaughlin a great little cutback against It should have
been an inside zone to the right side, right off
the right tackle, cuts back across the block, finds his hole.
Probably would have been getting a gain of at least
eight in a game situation where they're tackling to the ground. Guys,
he's the third running back on this team. Yes, I'm
so over the whole conversation, like, who's actually gonna like

(41:38):
he's the third running back on the team. It's so
it is abundantly clear that guy is going to play
a whole time.

Speaker 7 (41:44):
It is clear, and not only is he the third back,
he's also arguably the most trusted agent in the backfield
today for Sean Payton because he's gone through it. That's
one of Sean Payton's early early promotions from undrafted free
agent who a true belcal running back in particular moments
of the first two years of Sean Payton's play calling career.

(42:06):
He trusts him. He knows that he's gonna do exactly
what he's coached to do. He's gonna do with great
technique and fundamentals, with the right footwork. And we saw
it right there that looked like a guy who's been
playing in real, live football games for Sean Payton.

Speaker 6 (42:19):
In this offense joint practice well underway the twos, the
Jared Stidham rolling out on a play action pass finds
treacher for Senior on the reception. We'll take a quick
time out, have coach go take a peek at what's
happening in the team run portion of practice today. All
