Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Mosher, Lombardi and Caine on demand. Listen live
every weekday morning from seven to ten on Altitude Sports
Radio two five and on the Altitude Sports Radio app.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Von Veiley is already twenty seven. Do you almost consider, like,
can we flip him for like a fifth or something
like that?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Wait, take it easy, I'm just asking. You're not getting
a fifth for Devon vele take sixth whatever? You just
need to calm down a little bit.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Whatever, sixth something? Can you flip him for a pick?
All I'm saying is R E L A X.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
He's out of your face.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Hey, can we get to first maybe quarterback and return
for Devon Veley?
Speaker 5 (00:52):
Please?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
It's not what I said. He maybe maybe the Bills
will part with josh Anallan.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
I think I think I think he might.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Is worth something to somebody.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Devon for Hendrickson, let's just go, is.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Worth something to somebody in a trade.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Do you feel like you're deep enough already at wide
receiver that you could cast him off and try and
make something work like that?
Speaker 6 (01:19):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Well, well, how the turntables.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I just I realized something yesterday. I was on the
golf course and look at my phone. My phone's blowing
up because Vley's trade. I was like, oh, wow, they
did trade him. I thought they might what they get
for him. It was silly me. I was such an idiot.
I thought they'd get a fifth. And I'm just I
was so stupid in thinking that way, because they got
a fourth and a seventh for Devon Vley yesterday. And
(01:52):
I gotta tell you, it's one of those times when
I'm I was very excited to come into the studio
this morning, very excited just to see that face on
the screen right now.
Speaker 6 (02:04):
I wasn't necessarily here's what I was. So don't you
back out of your responsibility.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
You tape.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
I did hear the tape, but I I misremembered kind
of how it went down. I remember thinking, I think
you're right about the Broncos being able to get something
for him. I'm not not necesariously, not even kidding. I
didn't realize that I was mocking you with the Trey
Hendrickson trade. I didn't realize. I didn't realize that I
(02:31):
had gone on that far and mocked you. And I
apologize for that. Although you know, a fourth and the
seventh isn't Trey Hendrickson, but I thought they would get something.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
But you were right, You were absolutely correct.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
And the fact that Vick isn't here today to really
eat that crow as a bummer really E L A X.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah that wasn't Vic saying that.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
That was Mark Mos Yeah, that was that was me.
But I wasn't. I wasn't thinking it was worth anything.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Here's the here's the deal, Okay, cool, I was right.
Whatever the thing about it is, it is such a
by the way, most you are you are aware today
filming for Altitude Golf.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
Where yeah correct, yeah, uh we're filming up here at
Aspen Glenning Carbondale.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
Scotty will be along doing his show from from the
club today as well.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Gotcham Okay, so you bet. Here's the thing with the
Devon Vley stuff. I think this speaks.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Like I can't.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I don't think I have the proper words to describe
to you the level of faith and trust that I
have within the Broncos organization right now as a whole
that I just feel like everything they're doing is the
perfect way to go about business. Like honestly, I Vley
is a good player with a very cemented in capped
(03:55):
ceiling of what he can be. You have players at
the wide receiver position right now, namely, you want a
big compliment in this trade. That compliment is paid directly
to Pat Bryant for what they think of him, because
that's why they feel comfortable enough to make the move.
But you know who Devon Vleay is. And I'll give
you a couple of reasons why I think this trade
(04:15):
is so genius. Here's one. When was Devon Vleay selected
in the NFL draft?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Do you remember?
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Uh? Was it the fifth round? Seventh seventh round? Seventh round?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Seventh round picks are whatever, take flyers. It's seventh round
picks are Caleb Lohners. This guy hasn't played football his
entire life, but he's big and strong, and maybe it'll work.
Like I'm gonna take a flyer on the guy. They
turned seventh round pick Devon Valay in his rookie season
into the second highest reception leader on the roster, number one.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Number two.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
They flipped a seventh round pick from two years ago
for a fourth and a seventh. Now, juxtaposed that with
the Kansas City Chiefs who made a trade yesterday.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Did you see their trade?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
It was in the same draft second round pick sky
Moore got flipped for what a sixth?
Speaker 3 (05:10):
They took a second round pick, flipped them for a sixth.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
The Broncos took a seventh and flipped them for a
fourth and a seventh. So that's just one aspect of it.
But think about that for a second. Most like that's value.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
When I was role playing yesterday and I was Mickey Loomis,
I didn't I was calling the Cleveland Browns. I should
have been calling the Denver Broncos right and going, Hey,
you guys got any more than my whiteout's overhere?
Speaker 4 (05:39):
He got? He got? You got any more of them studs?
I could use one, right? Uh.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
It says a lot about about George Payton's ability to maneuver.
It says a lot of I'm sure about the relationship
that Sean Payton has still perhaps with the Saints in
that regard, it says a lot about Pat Bryant and
Trent Sherfield, and it says a lot to.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Me about Troy Franklin. Is what.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
It says that he is absolutely taking that next step,
you know what I mean, That they believe that this
guy is moving on up. So good stuff. Really good stuff.
I listen, I love the wide receiver room before this.
All it really does is solidify in my head that
they feel really good about the guys they got catching
(06:24):
the football.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Here's the second one. I'll give you another comparison. The
Broncos made a wide receiver trade last year. Do you
remember what that was? They traded away a wide receiver
Jerry Judy.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Oh, Jerry Judy, well to the Browns.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah, went to the Browns for a fifth and a
sixth round pick. Now, contract extension was in the works
with that, so you have correct that's factors into the
trade value.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
But you got more out of Vela than you did
Jerry Judy.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
Who, by the way, well, Jerry Judy also bawled out
for Cleveland last year.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
It was gonna pretty damn well.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
If you guys didn't pay attentions Jerry.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
With you give the Browns a little credit too, because
they're like, we'll turn them into something, and they did.
I mean, the Broncos couldn't do it, and he played
well for them.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Jerry Judy, with about fifteen different quarterbacks showing him the
football last year, had a ninety catch twelve hundred yard
season by the way, it was really good last year.
Here's the final thing I want to say, at least
as far as value in this trade, you got a
fourth round pick from the New Orleans Saints. Are the
Saints going to be good this year?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Moses? No, that's high end.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
I don't think so. I don't think they agree.
Speaker 7 (07:35):
You're just like me, trash.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I don't think they're going to be good either, which
means that's a high end fourth round draft pick. That
is like almost pick one hundred draft pick, like another
top one hundred pick. Whether you can use that on
a player if you feel good about somebody, or the
great thing about those picks, Moses, that are like early
fourth rounders. If you're sitting there at I don't know,
(08:00):
pick sixty in the second round and you love a
guy at the fortieth pick, and you know he's not
gonna drop to you saying, hey, we'll flip our seconds
and I'll throw this extra fourth I got in the package.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
It's an don't get it. Absolutely, there's no doubt about it.
A guy that you really like, there's no doubt about it.
So this is really good, man. I just I was
shocked to him, Like, no way, I told Connor, and
by the way, Connor was gonna stop by a little
bit later on, I think and discuss some stuff with us.
If you're cool with that's weird out here at the course.
(08:34):
But I was, I'm like, no, wait, they von Vailey.
I thought he was gonna be, you know, not an
integral part, but a part of that that offense that's
going to be better.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
Man.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
It made me feel It just made me and I
like him, Don't get me wrong, I like him. It
just made me feel better about the wide receiving corps
as a whole, and it made me feel great. Obviously
in the evaluation ability of Peyton and Peyton.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
There is no better compliment to be given to both
Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant than this trade. Because if
Pat Bryant wasn't ready to play, Von Vailey is not
going anywhere. He's gonna be your fourth string wide out
on the roster. What this trade said was that, guess
what the fourth string wide out on the roster is,
Pat Bryant and Devon Veley your fifth I don't know
(09:21):
how much playing time you're gonna get. I think it
also says a little bit of something about maybe some
guys behind them. The others of camp that we thought
of looked good.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Like your d like the Jauqueene Davis guy, likes.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Courtney Jackson, people like that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yes that I don't think this opens up a spot
for them. This spot that they've opened up is not
gonna go to another wide out.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I can almost guarantee it.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
They're gonna stash those guys on practice squad and call
them up if necessary. But I think it is a
compliment to him that if a guy or two goes
down in that wide receiver room, they're like, hey, we
feel comfortable enough to bring you guys up without having
Devon Velay here. So it's just it's a combination of
different factors that we'll get to throughout the course of
the day today. But overall, here's my main thing is
(10:07):
just this front office is really good. Like George Peyton is.
I don't think there's any question a top five GM
in this league. I think he's that level good. You
have your your top end ones, which are your obviously
Howie Roseman in Philadelphia is probably the kaream of the crop.
When it comes to that, you have guys Brent Veach
(10:31):
is one that's really good in Kansas City, Brad Holmes
and Detroit's really good. I think Peyton's right there along
with with all of that group. I think he's that
good at his job and the trade yesterday along with
all of the other moves. Like if you really think
about it, MOJ, think about the things that he's accomplished
here in the last couple of years in extending patzer
(10:55):
Tan when he did, and now the Defensive Player of
the Year, the guy who was voted on as the
best defensive player in football is the sixth highest paid
guy at his position a year after signing his contract.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (11:07):
Well, and that's to me though, that's just sort of
the natural momentum of the league.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
I mean, but to get the deal done when he
did that, you have the time you could do.
Speaker 6 (11:15):
You want to credit Kansas City for paying Patrick Mahomes
four hundred million dollars a year because now he's like
the whatever, highest paid quarterback.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
I mean, you know, they.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Just really smart on their part.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, but but you know, I mean,
I just think that's the way the league is going
because you've got so many guys just getting that next
big bag. But yeah, I don't disagree with you, Brett.
And you know, when when you hire a Sean Payton,
we're thinking to ourselves, Okay, well, how's that going to
work with George Peyton. The fact is it's worked swimmingly.
(11:45):
They've really done a good job together, and it's to
me it was sort of unpredictable. I don't know how
it's gonna work. I mean, what, what what's George Payton's role?
Kind of you know, because Sean's doing this and that,
but he's he's done a lot of really good things
and this is just another one. And I mean again
this this is the training camp.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Of of love.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
When was the Summer of love? Now, like you're a hippie,
when was that nineteen sixty what something?
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Something?
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I think it was nineteen sixty nine?
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Nice? Right? Is that what it was?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Is it the summer of sixty nine?
Speaker 6 (12:16):
It was the summer rose sixty No, I don't know
the summer of love.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Now, this is the training It was nineteen sixty seven.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
I was closed sixty seven. Okay, this is the training
camp of love.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Man.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
The Broncos can do no wrong, dude, I mean they
really can't. Everything's going great. Everybody's looking great.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
I'm trades or trades are great. I mean this, it's great,
everything's great.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Seriously, I'm really I'm really really trying to figure out,
like searching, is there anything that I can really really
criticize anything that I think they've done pretty egregiously wrong
this offseason. And I don't think there's much to it.
I really don't even the thing I thought they were
wrong about. Initially, I thought they were wrong in not
taking a veteran wide out, and now it turns out
(12:58):
they had too many for the ones that are are
are you on the roster?
Speaker 4 (13:01):
You know what I mean? Right? Right right?
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I wanted them to get like Cooper Cup because I'm like,
I don't know if the room's good enough.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
And now they're like, we're no, no, no, we're too good.
We need to get rid of one of these guys.
We're too good.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Now, what did you say they're too good? What was
the thing there that bad? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (13:17):
Yeah, you're talking about the rocks, Uh, the wide receiver room.
You know, it's just I'm sure they look at it.
You know, it's too good. We got too many dudes,
too many really good dudes, And that's a good problem
to have. Let's just spin one of these dudes off
for a fourth and a seventh. I mean, it's honestly
it it is kind of a big deal.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
I mean it really is.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
I mean people say, oh, fourth and the seventh, this
is This should for Broncos fans. You should look at
it and say, go Lee to have the you know,
the kid come along and in Bryant and have Troy
Franklin again make a huge leap from year one to
year two.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
You should feel really happy about where they are.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Hey, we're giving away a pair of twenty twenty six
Elich Gardens season passes right now. Text Elich E L
I T C H in your first and last name
the three oh three five oh four O nine two five,
and you're entered. That's Elich in your first and last
name to three oh three five oh four O nine
two five.
Speaker 8 (14:11):
And since Vick's not here, I'm gonna be the guy
to go, what's Eliz Gardens.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
It's just Elitch's kaner.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (14:17):
Any any uh Denver native knows this.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
I'm just reading the copy.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Purchase your twenty twenty six Elich Gardens season past now
and get the rest of twenty twenty five including fright Fest,
Elitch Holidays. All of that included Wow, so lowest price
and soon so get on it. But text Elich in
your first and last name to the three oh three,
(14:43):
five oh four.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Jeremy's already texted in and he misspelled Elitch.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
I mean, you know, you know I spelled it once
for you, I spelled it once.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Well, Jeremy, Jeremy with the last name starts with an S.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
He knows who he is. Uh, right out of the gate.
I mean you're the first one. Good job, buddy, you
blew it.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
So when we come back, I want more of this.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I'm gonna make a comparison, a comparison between my beloved Rockies,
who won again last night against the Dodgers. It'll be
the third straight series that they did not lose consecutively. Crazy,
and a chance to win their third straight in one
of those against the Dodgers today at one o'clock.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Crazy.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
But I want to make a comparison between them and
the Broncos, and I'll give you like a perfect example. Wait,
hold on a second, yes, hold on a second quickly.
Are you are you telling me that you're going to
compare the Rockies to the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
I am in what.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
In how the Rockies should be and kind of far
for the moment handling business like the Broncos are get
to it next.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
All right.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
It's just it's one of those days where it's just
I felt hot, you know, I felt like you just
had a hot hand, you know, as you got that
driver in your hand and you're like five straight fairways
right down the middle three twenty.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
So because of your prediction yesterday, because you finally got well,
it wasn't just that though you finally nailed it, finally
just that.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
So I'm on the course yesterday I played bear Dance
for the first time. Beautiful course, beautiful.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
So I'm playing and then I get the notification on
my phone and he was like, oh my god, they
traded Vley.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
And then about thirty minutes after, I.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Know where you're going. I know where you're going.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Well, if you remember what I was talking about yesterday,
I said, guys, it's time for the Rockies just to
say the Gomber thing. You lost the Arenado trade entirely.
No pieces are working. You got you can't keep trotting
him out there. And thirty minutes after the Veyley thing
was announced, they put Gombre on waivers, and I was like,
that's going on here? What else can I speak into
(16:41):
existence in this planet?
Speaker 6 (16:43):
Like?
Speaker 4 (16:43):
What else?
Speaker 6 (16:43):
Do I try something again today? When he got up
your sleeve, try something, don't. I'm not going to put
pressure on you. Think of something, okay, all right, okay.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
And I'm going to win a million dollars today.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Well I chose really very much a boy and only
five dollars in a scratcher there.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
Hey, Barbs, so sounds good, yeah, Gomber. When you go
back and you look at the Ronado trade, it's just
is this your comparison between the Rockies and the Broncos.
Is that what we're getting at?
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Well No, not really, not really, because.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
That's more of it. That's more of a contrast. Okay, yes,
because when you go back to the Ronado trade and
you look at all the pieces again, they they they
spun off fifty mil which is just so crazy just
to get rid of Ronado.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
But you look at what they.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
Got back, and really what they got back, Brett was
the Cardinals just rummage sale. They got back a ton
of junk, I mean junk.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
They got like four or five guys in the trade
and all of them are off the roster like it's
it's they're.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
They're all junk. Yeah, they're junk.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
By the way, well three of three of them never
even made it to the bigs. Bro Yeah, three of
them never even played a game for the Rockies.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Now, I want to be clear about something.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
When I talk about stuff like this, I'm not angry
at the player. I did that with Tyler Kinley a
little bit. And then if you remember, before they traded him,
I came to a realization I wasn't mad at Tyler Kinley.
I was mad at the Rockies for continuing to have
Tyler Kinley on the roster to put out there. That's
where I was mad at. And so I wasn't mad
at Gombert. I actually felt for him. If you guys
(18:22):
didn't hear Gomber. By the way, after that last start
in which he got Sheldon three innings, gave up seven
to the Dodgers on Tuesday, most listen, this is this
is a professional player after a game saying.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
This, oh yeah, just making bad pitches. You know, I
just feel like I'm in a tough spot right now.
You know, it's sucks to let the team down, and
you know more specifically the bullpen for sure. You know,
we needed more length than that. I just couldn't provide it.
You know, I just feel like I'm just a little
bit lost out there right now. You know, I don't
(18:58):
really have any confidence, really don't really have like an
identity of what I'm trying to do, you know, so
just trying to figure it out, man. And that's kind
of that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
That's brutal, Like to hear a professional talk that way
is brutal. Again, there's nothing against him.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Yeah, and he's but he's completely honest and correct. Sure,
it's like a goalie's like I just I can't see
the puck right now. And you know, here's the thing
about Gomber, dude, he just he feels so bad about himself.
How do you take the bump when you when you
don't even remotely believe in yourself because you know you're
(19:38):
pitching poorly. And again, this is the vic theory that
this is that this is gonna happen to pictures at
altitude no matter who it is. Maybe Gombert was predisposed
and maybe if he had gone to let's say, I
don't know, the Cincinnati Reads, he'd be in the same boat. Right,
he'd still be getting shelled. But it's something Vict's got
(19:59):
a little bit of a nugget of truth in there
that this altitude does stuff to some guys and they
lose their confidence and they gotta get out. They just
have to get This is probably the best thing to
happen to him. Somebody will pick him up, he'll rehab himself,
he'll get back into a flowy, he'll pitch in the
bigs again.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
But right now, dude, he's just a mess.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Well here's the comparison I wanted to make, and I'm
going to give a compliment to the Rockies here, So
pay attention. First of all, I'm giving them a compliment
because they've been playing good baseball lately. They're like a
five hundred team. Since the All Star Break, they've won
two straight series. They could win a third today but
they win against the Dodgers, which would take be taken
(20:40):
three of four against the Dodgers. When's the last time
they could say they did that.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Dude, they had lost ten in a row before this series.
I mean, it's pretty dang good.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
So first of all, they get credit for that. They're
playing better baseball. Number One, Number two. The Rockies have
done business at least a little bit differently as of late.
If you remember, most at the trade deadline, they actually
traded guys who had trade value and got assets in return,
(21:10):
as opposed to letting them walk for free in the
off season, which they've done for like two or three
years straight. Right, they made moves. They did it with
Austin Gomber. They said, all right, we admit it, we
failed in the trade. There's no point in continuing this.
And here's the comparison I'd make towards the Broncos and
(21:31):
just bear with me. The Broncos over the last few
years with this new leadership group, the ownership and George
Payton have done this repeatedly. They commit to something when
the second they recognize it's not working, they're done with it.
It took fifteen weeks for Nate Hackett and they said,
(21:52):
not gonna work, it's over. It took two years for
Russell Wilson, they said, don't care about the money, it's
not gonna work here. By see, they do that stuff
immediately because what's the point in playing out the string
if it's not going to help you to the Rockies credit.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
As of late.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
They've started to do business a little bit more like that.
And mos, I'll tell you this, when did all of
this start? Somebody within the Rockies organization told me they're
actually excited, skept have some optimistic skepticism. Let's say about
(22:31):
Walker Montfort taking over the team. I thought he'd do
business a little bit differently. It looks a little bit
different since he's been promoted. They've made moves in acquired
assets at the deadline, They've moved on from players they
don't think are good enough. They've played a lot more
young guys. Like I am skeptical, but I do kind
of like the recent direction they've gone.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
And I that's fine, that's good.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
And this sounds like I'm going to really bash Montfort,
and I guess I'm going to have to because I
don't have anything personally against him.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
I mean, any change would probably feel good and look good.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
Okay, I mean, anybody who comes in and does anything
a little bit different, it is probably going to feel
pretty dang good because the old way ain't working period, right.
So I mean, whether you want to give Walker direct
credit or you could have put a you know, a
Laborador retriever, sure making you know, two barks for a trade,
you know, one bark for for whatever. It's probably gonna
(23:31):
feel pretty good. But I'll give him credit. I think
I think you're right. I think that that if there's
a vibe going around the team, that's can that can
only be positive, you know, and you look at the
look at the Avs too. I mean, heck, they know
their windows open, right If it ain't working, what do
you do?
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (23:47):
They move on. They're another perfect.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Exa you're done, Yeah, you're done.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Like how many different guys have they had where it's
Joe Hanssen or middle stat or new hook or like
they're willing to goalies the goalies, they're willing to give
you the shot. But once they recognize there is no
point in moving this forward, they're gone. Done with You
find something else. It's what good teams and smart teams
(24:13):
should be doing.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Anyway. I just think there's a part of that.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
And that's where again I give full credit to the
Broncos for having that mentality. Basically ever since the Walton
Penner group took over, they've been that way.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
Well, they got the money to do it too. I mean,
you don't have to hang on it. This stuff you
don't like, and yeah, it definitely helps. So I see
where I see where you're going. So that's your comparison,
that's your big comparison.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Well, it just look as of recently.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
I'm not saying that's going to continue that way, but
I'm I'm encouraged.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Let's say sell the team as somebody says on Yeah, yeah,
I know.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
By the way, do you know who the Rockies did
that to last night their eight to three win, They show, Yeah,
nine hits, five runs, and four innings off of showing
that he dealta first season.
Speaker 6 (25:07):
He himself called it a miserable outing. He not only
did he get shelled, but he took a liner off
the leg. Yeah you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
And he only had for a team that strikes out
a lot most with the Rockies and show, hey, who
strikes out a lot of people?
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Only three k's and four innings.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Yeah he uh, he took a liner off the leg
as well. It was a good win, good win, good stuff. Hey,
back to the Vley thing real quick, Brett. I've been
trying to think of how this goes down, whether whether
the Broncos are shopping Vley because you're talking about a
fourth and a seventh for a former seventh. Right, yes,
are the Broncos shopping him or were they shopping him?
(25:47):
Or did the Saints call about him? I would love
to know the answer to that.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
I think both, because you think, yeah, I don't because
if you're shopping him, what if you're shopping no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
If you're shopping him, you're kind of like, Okay, what
can we get for? You know what, what can we get?
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Right? And I don't know, maybe there's a little bit
of a bidding war in the Saints.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
Really you put him out there because if the phone rings,
if you're like, hey George Peyton here, Oh hey, Mickey,
how you doing. I don't know, man, we like this
kid and we we need depth of wide too. You know,
he had a good rookie year. Oh fourth and a seventh.
Oh well, okay, I mean you know what I mean.
It's I mean, you can you can maybe squeeze a
(26:34):
little bit more rout if you're the one receiving the
phone call.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
I well, i'd say this motion. I think that they
were in a place to where they would put Devon
Vailey's name out there and say, if you really want him,
then make me an offer that shows you really want him. Like,
(26:58):
you know what's interesting about this because I I did
the same thing you did. You said you put yourself
in the shoes of Mickey Loomis. I was like, if
I were the Saints, because we've seen Vele for a year,
it's I guess we don't know what totally what kind
of player he can be. But again, one of the
reasons why I pointed him out a couple days ago
was he's twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
He's not twenty three.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
And if he's a twenty seven year old that I
think has a hard cap on what kind of player
he is, which is a solid but maybe not great player,
then maybe youre try and get value out of him.
So I was like, what do the Saints see in this?
And I'll I'll explain what I mean, moj The Saints
are not a very good football team, but they have
(27:42):
really good receivers. They have Olave, they have Rashid Shahed,
they have Brandon Cooks, they have Juwan Johnson at tight end.
They have Taysom Hill, they have Alvin Kamara in the backfield.
I'm like, their weapons aren't like it didn't feel like
a need to where they would make a what I
estimate to be over exaggerated trade for a guy like Velay.
(28:07):
And so I'm almost thinking, moj are they acquiring Veley
to flip a bigger name that's ahead of him?
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Now?
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Did they get Vela to be like, all right, Rashid Shahed,
we can get like a third round or four or something.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Like that, Brandon Cooks or something like that, you know
what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Maybe that's the reason behind it.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Because Devon Valley was fifth on the depth chart here
behind Pat Bryant, I think is the translation of the trade, right, sure,
well he's fourth in New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
And even Cedric.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Wilson's not a bad wide receiver, he might be kind
of in the same sort of spot.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
I just say, God speed, Saints, whatever you do, fine,
god speed, you.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Know what I mean though, Like, that's that's just something
I was trying to figure out the opposite side. I'm like,
what I thought they had like no wide outs other
than a love And I looked at it, I was like, oh, yeah,
Shaheed and Brandon Cooks.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Like they got dudes.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
I just didn't get it, like it would be like
the Bronco was tree a fourth and a seventh for
a cornerback, and you're like, well, where's he gonna play?
Speaker 4 (29:04):
You know what I mean? So you're what you're trying
to do is speculate what the Saints next move.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Well, not that I really care. I'm just like, I don't.
I don't know why if that team made the move
is what's weird because I couldn't care less.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
I mean, listen, if Space Aliens gave the Broncs a
fourth and the seventh, Yeah for a guy who is
fifth in your in your rotation at at wide out.
I'm look, I'm taking it. Yeah, I don't care who's
giving it to me. I'm taking it.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Textra points us out, this is something I said in
the six o'clock hour. Usually use I actually use the
same word he used. I think Vley's biggest problem was this.
He was a redundancy in the wide receiver room. They
had Courtland Sutton, which is a better version of Vlea.
They have now Pat Bryant, which they estimate is a
(29:48):
better version of VLEA. And I was talking to Nelly,
he he hasn't seen it. I think you have most
because I think you've referenced this before the movie. Multiplicity
with Michael Keaton.
Speaker 6 (29:58):
I have seen it, is that the one where he
keeps being replicated and by the time he's done it
like seven times, that guy's are more on. Yes, okay,
so every time, every yeah, every time he gets a
little bit dumber.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
It's a little dummer and dummer and dummer version.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I'm not calling Vley dumb, but it's just like it's
Sutton's the original, and then for now Bryant's the copy,
and then they copied Bryant to what Veley is, and
then they copied Vlay to what Joaquin Davis is, and
then you know what I mean, Like it just feels
like they're the same dude, just a slightly worse version
(30:31):
of themselves as you go down the line.
Speaker 6 (30:33):
Let me let me also say that, let me credit
Vley too, because he came in as a guy that
we hardly even really knew anything about. Right like, well,
the seventh round wide out old utah Ahbadabada. You know,
he played pretty good for the Bronx, and he stood
out right away. He's a good player.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
I think that I think that his maturity showed. I
think that his his professionalism showed. I think that really
helped him. I mean, and again, I think he probably
earned some confidence out of Bonix and Sean Payton.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
But you've got guys.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
You've got guys now, and you probably like Pat Bryant
just a little bit better. You and I talked about
it too, Brett, that Surefield's on this team. I mean, yes,
if you've got if you've got a veteran like that
who is just steady Eddy, that's a that's a good
thing to have. It's just it's a sort of a
fire and forget missile. But you got it and you
hang on to it.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
So when we come back.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
There's another thing that I want to get to with
this trade, which is what happens now with the roster spot.
You got an extra one now, mos I am convinced.
I would put down a sizeable amount of money that
the roster spot that's now open with the exit of
Vela is not going to be kept for another wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
I would.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
I would guarantee they're going into the season with five.
It's gonna be Sutton, it's gonna be Mims, it's gonna
be Franklin, Brian Surefield, and I think that's the five
that they're gonna roll with.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
My question is do they want to keep somebody who's
currently with them or are they opening up a spot
so that when Tuesday hits they go around and they
go get it.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
That is what I'm wondering as well, and I want
to get to that in just a couple of minutes.
You can listen to us anywhere, including at a golf
course in asp Was it Aspen?
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Where you at again?
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Aspen Glenn?
Speaker 6 (32:25):
I mean Carbondale, but it's called Aspen Glenn Club Golf
at Altitude today.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Ask if you're If you're listening in Carbondale, you can
do so on the Altitude Sports Radio app. It is
powered by the Will Height Law firm. Andre laurr is
going to Will Height Winds icon. That's Will Heightwinds dot com.
So where is that extra roster spot going?
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Now?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
We'll get to it next.
Speaker 7 (32:43):
So good man, come on, slide, come on now? Mmm
that popping bass with there?
Speaker 3 (33:00):
What a jam? What you jam?
Speaker 6 (33:02):
Hey, Bretzki, I know you want to get into this
roster thing. Yeah, and I do too. And I'm thinking
about this and something just hit home big time to me.
Warren Sharp sent out a tweet I'll get to that momentarily,
but I want to reiterate to the fans out there,
the Broncos fans, that every single roster spot is incredibly
(33:24):
valuable today's NFL.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Would you agree with that that?
Speaker 6 (33:27):
I mean, you've got to think ahead, even that one
spot dude could make a big difference. Would you agree
with that? Yes, depending on the position and depending on
luck and everything else. Right, yes, And we go back
to the Broncos of last year and how remarkably healthy
they were, and how fortunate they were to be remarkably
healthy to get the ten wins. Right, Yes, I'm looking
(33:51):
at the forty nine ers, and I think, Nellie, you
are the one talking about the Niners wide out situation
in the appetizer. They're a mess. They got they need
dudes so wide out. Russell Gage is now being counted on.
Who was going to be count of on to replace
some other wideouts who are out. He's got a sprain
mcl He's gonna be out a couple of weeks, right, Yeah.
(34:12):
So in twenty eighteen, the forty nine Ers were the
fourth most injured team. In twenty nineteen, they were the
sixth most injured when thirteen and three. They lost the
Super Bowl. In twenty twenty the most injured team in
the league, twenty one, number three most injured team in
the league, twenty twenty two, ninth most injured team in
the league. They went thirteen and four, though in twenty
twenty three they were the twenty ninth most injured team.
(34:34):
They stayed pretty healthy a couple of years ago, lost
in the Super Bowl. Last year most injured team. They've
had just a horrible rash of injuries over the years
and be so it tells you they're a good team. Hey,
they can get to the Super Bowl or go deep
if they're healthy. Otherwise you're screwed by finishing last year.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
Division.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
It's so every single aspect of a roster makeup and
every single hole that's there, you fill it with a guy.
That man, you never know when you're gonna be counted
on that guy to actually play some snaps and help
your team win.
Speaker 8 (35:11):
The healthiest wide receiver on the forty nine ers right
now is Ricky Pearsall, who, let me check my notes here,
got shot in the chest last year in Union Square
because someone wanted his rollie. And yet he is the
only wide receiver that can actually stay upright, Come on.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
Guy, the guy who took a nine mill slug is
running rounds. It's crazy, but you just knock on your wood, boys,
I'm knocking on my wood that the health continues for
the Denver Broncos well, because it's a big factor.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
On top of that, the open spot now on the roster,
the question is where does it go. Could they reserve
that for somebody they pick up on waivers? They could,
but I feel like the waiver position unless it's someone
that's just somehow falls in their lap, that's really good.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
You know.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Peyton talked about he's going to be on the lookout
for a tight end or a fullback because Atkins and
Burton are both on they're both hurt for a while, right,
That's why they went out and they signed that Adam
Prentiss kid.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
The Prentice. I mean, he's there.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
But I feel like he's got I don't. I guess
what I'm saying is, I don't know if they want Prentice.
They just need somebody at that position for now to
get through camp.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Uh maybe he's the guy, maybe not.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
But he said they were going to be on the
lookout for somebody that's in that realm, like he loved
Nate Atkins because Atkins did both. He played tight end
and if you want to line him up in the backfield,
we can do that.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
So I I don't know, excuse me, I don't know
if that's going to be what they reserve the spot for.
I think what they could do is one of those
positions that you're really torn at.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Who do we keep?
Speaker 2 (36:56):
And I'll tell you one specifically, they were going to
have a really really tough decision on the defensive line
the interior because what they have there is a host
of different dudes that they that they think can be
really good, and the top end guys are obvious like
Zach Allen, DJ Jones, JFM, Malcolm Roach saveon Jones is
(37:20):
our fifth round pick.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Those guys are gonna make the team.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
And it felt like there was room for one more
and there was gonna be I thought it would be
this battle between Jasa Rique and Jordan Jackson, who's had
a really good camp as well.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
They might have room for both.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Now, maybe they just keep both and they keep the
depth on that defensive line and that rotation, keep guys fresh,
divvy up the snaps and nobody gets tired towards the
end of games and blah blah blah. Maybe that's what
they reserve it for. Maybe they reserve it for keeping
Demari Mathis on the roster who maybe couldn't maybe there
wasn't room for before that. Maybe it's keeping a guy
(37:58):
like Skinner or Devon King as safety, like it gives
you the ability to take somebody else there, and I
think more than anything mos it can open up a
spot for another special teamer. Those are the positions we
don't really think about when it comes down to fifty
to three man rosters because we don't. We don't evaluate
gunners on a punt team as a fan, we look
(38:19):
at the guys who catch the ball and get sacks,
you know what I mean, Like that's we're just very
neanderthal about that. But I'll tell you what. Coaches love
people who are versatile and can do both. It's why
Trent Sherfield is an absolute lock to make the rosters
because he not only can play wide out, but he's
an elite special teamer.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
And that's but that's for guys who are I want
to say bubbleish, but yeah, bubbleish, right, or guys who
are are luxury items. The more things you can do,
you know that it helps an awful lot. Like you
got your high end guys who just play their position. Okay, great,
but guys who I mean, that's why the extra offensive
(39:00):
lineman who can play guard and tackle.
Speaker 7 (39:02):
Right Okay, that guy, Okay, man, he's got a spot.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
That guy or the guy who can play garden center
or the tackle left sidey on right side like the correct.
Speaker 6 (39:12):
And so you and you the same kind of thing
of the NHL, you know, I mean, if you got
a guy who who can elevator up and down the wing,
you know, he can play with high end talent, but
he can also just be a third line, third line
guy and give you shift after shift. It makes a
difference in matters. So yeah, I see what you're saying.
With that that defensive line.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
I think he could open up a spot for somebody
who maybe wasn't there. Texas says, maybe even Courtney Jackson
as a six wide receiver. I'm telling you, I don't
think they're saving that spot for another wide out. If
they wanted another white out on the roster, they wouldn't
have traded Vley. I think they were uncomfortable with keeping six,
which was part of their issue. They're like, I'm not
going to have room for everybody, and it's going to
(39:52):
feel a lot like, you know, it's a different position
and one that made I guess a little bit more sense.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
But it's kind of like Zach Wilson last year. Mos.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
It was he was on the fifty three man roster
and he didn't play a snap and he didn't play
special teams, and you're just kind of.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Like, well, what was the purpose really towards that?
Speaker 4 (40:14):
Right?
Speaker 3 (40:14):
Maybe you were keeping him for trade bait.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
You know.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
My theory all year was if bo Knicks went down
early in the season with the season ending injury, that
Zack Wilson would have taken over for the long term
and Jared Stidham was your short term replacement guy.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Who knows if that's true or not.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
Or if Bo or if both flamed out. I mean,
if he maybe you know, just an insurance policy.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
But I don't think they're like, we are so good
and we are going to have to cut some good
football players like they just did. Didn't cut Devon Veley,
but let him go that They're like, if I can
find another guy that is I believe a really good
football player. I want to keep him on the roster. Well,
we can use that spot for that guy now, whoever
(40:58):
that is.
Speaker 6 (40:58):
And you have to think ahead like that in today's
day and age, it's just I mean, like I'm a reiterated,
every roster spot is so valuable, so you have to
think ahead.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
You know, a week in advance, two weeks in advance,
you know a.
Speaker 6 (41:14):
Spot that you know whatever, that you really really you
feel maybebe even if we don't think you're thin at
maybe inside the room they think they're thin at.
Speaker 4 (41:24):
Right, Yes, I want to keep that one extra guy
at that spot. So this is good stuff.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
I mean, I'm I'm I'm feeling good this morning. I'm
not feeling as good as you and all your silly
predictions and all that kind of thing, but I'm feeling good.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
I've been on fire, mush, and I've already predicted that
you've been. I've already predicted that I'm gonna win a
million dollars, So I mean, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 6 (41:43):
I And I'm gonna win twenty five bucks. Would you
say you're gonna win twenty five on a scratcher?
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Yeah? Nelly. Uh.
Speaker 6 (41:52):
By the way, if just so you guys do make it.
Can you make a prediction for Nelly? Anything, anything good?
Speaker 4 (41:57):
Please?
Speaker 3 (41:58):
Nelly will and.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
You you will forget your scratcher at the studio. Nelly
will take that and he will parlay that into a
a big time sports bet that where twenty five dollars
BET's gonna net him four hundred grand money.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
So I get like like a thirteen team parlay.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Yes, and he's gonna nail it with twenty five bucks.
So so everybody gets a cut in. And because Nelly's generous,
he's gonna be like, mos, this was your scratcher.
Speaker 4 (42:27):
I did take it. Here's here's twenty five.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
I was gonna say five grand, but twenty that's fair.
Twenty five thousand dollars.
Speaker 8 (42:34):
Yes, Moser, I'll buy you tickets to your next def
Leopard candlelight vigil. Next vigil is on me, brother.
Speaker 4 (42:40):
Appreciate hey before we get to the top.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Because we're a family around here, we share pay.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (42:47):
Did you see that article it just came out this
morning on ESPN where Andy Reid's office was shot last year.
Speaker 4 (42:55):
Did you see that? What a bullet? Somebody shot a bullet.
Speaker 6 (43:00):
Somebody shot into Andy Reid's office last in twenty twenty
four he was.
Speaker 4 (43:07):
Was he in there?
Speaker 6 (43:09):
It's about fifteen feet from where he was sitting shortly
after midnight in last May a year ago. Maneez, So
now he's got bulletproof glass in his office so the
people from long distance can't can't snipe him.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Our boys at the establishment.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
We we frequent over an a town.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
They got a couple of poles holes in their walls too.
Sometimes a stray comes through who knows, you.
Speaker 6 (43:35):
Know, just yeah, at this at the chiefs practice or
the chief's offices, astray comes through head on a swivel,
baby like, who's got Who's Who's got it out for
Andy Reid? I mean, it can't be a discredbled fan.
They got multiple rings, man, I mean, and they just
went to the ball.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
Do you get did you get the text?
Speaker 4 (43:55):
Lineup?
Speaker 2 (43:56):
You just read the five seven seven too? Please maybe
not out loud.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
Oh, come on, it's a good one though. Yeah, it's
a good uh anyway?
Speaker 2 (44:09):
Uh three oh three five O four oh nine two
five shop mos de text on one price, one person,
one hour back after this
