Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Moser, Lombardy and Caine on demand. Listen live
every weekday morning from seven to ten on Altitude Sports Radio,
not You two five and on the Altitude Sports Radio app.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Overall, I think we got out of the game pretty healthy.
There'll be a lot of good film for us to
look at, a lot of corrections. I'm sure good to
get another win, and can we get into a lot
of the decision making that puts together the initial roster.
So I'm not going to answer questions about our roster.
(00:39):
I'm not gonna do it, all right, I'll answer the
best I can about the game. I thought there was
some real positive things and then some other things that
weren't as positive.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
So any questions, that's what that's it means. That means
it stops.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
I got a question, Sean, who's going to make the roster?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
That's what that's it means.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
So we're gonna have again.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
I think today is going to be probably your big
cutdown day where most names are going to leave, and
then tomorrow you might be waiting for you know, see
if somebody wants to make a trade for some of
the guys who are at the very very end of
that roster bubble.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
But mos I will say this though, when a football
team is not as good and there are multiple jobs
open or even backup job, that there's some intrigue regarding Sure,
it makes this time of training camp in the preseason
more fun because you're kind of predicting and it's oh,
(01:40):
I really like this guy, will he make it? And
I didn't like that guy, but he made it? All
this kind of thing right now for the Denver Broncos,
it's pretty I mean, we've gone through it a billion times.
It feels like it's pretty damn set. Unless something completely
comes from left field that blows us away. I think
that we're we're pretty much knowing what direction the Broncos
(02:01):
they're going in at every single position.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
I remember they go.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
From ninety to fifty three, but sixteen of those guys
go on the practice squad. They're allowed to keep a
couple on the injury list. You know, you have to
miss a minimum of four games, right, and those.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Are guys like who's the Nate Atkins.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
Yeah, Nate Atkins the tight end that he could go
there for four or five weeks.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
But I think they wanted to save a spot for him.
Bick I was pretty sure they wanted to actually reserve
their Well, one is they can make a spot for
him when he comes back. They can always cut somebody
where it comes back. There are things they can do,
so it's not the big fall off.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
Everybody anticipates that they know who's going to the practice squad.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
The thing that's going to surprise is how.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
Many claims are gonna make from teams that are are
cutting players themselves. Not the players who are leaving the
Broncos roster. It's other players from other rosters who's coming here.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
And that's the tough part for guys who around the league,
who're on bubbles on other teams. Yeah, for a split second,
you think you know what I made it, I made
the roster, and then they go get a guy your
position from another team, and then you're a practice squad
of You're you're gone. It's it's it's tough. This is
a rough time. You know.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
I gave you your flowers deservedly so for predicting the
Devon Vle trade, because did not see that coming. With
that kind of resource coming back to Denver. There's another
position group on this Broncos roster that I believe can
warrant a trade if they want more, and I think it's.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
One of their deepest positions. Yeah, what am I thinking
of edge rusher?
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Yeah, they got edge rusher's galore.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Well, I think anybody who lines up to rush the
quarterback they have depending on how many they want to keep.
But maybe they want to keep more.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
But you're you're.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Talking about your Waza Riquez and Jordan Jackson's and guys
like that. I think they could if you want to
find some value somewhere. Dude, have you seen, by the way,
the amount of defensive tackles that have been traded over
the last couple of days. There's been like six of
them across the league for those late round swaps. People
looking for depth, and the Broncos got it. Like, I'm
(04:11):
sure they can find a partner if they want to
part with one of those guys. It's just do they
want to or not.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
I mean they they they used a third round pick
on Jones. I'm guessing that No, he's making the Yeah,
he's there, So if he's there, that means a Wazarriqui
probably is expendable and speak more of the.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
Edge rusher linebacker sort of start. I'm talking more arether Ellis,
Q Robinson.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Those guys and they're not getting rid of Jonah Jonas.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Ellis.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
Of course, you'reut there give you the depth that's there,
The depth that's there at that position, they.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Got a lot of it.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah, I just don't I don't know who they'd be
willing to part with from that group. I think they
want to keep those guys. Maybe Andre Tillman is one
of those dudes.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
I think that that one. That one they.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Don't want to let people go. I think it's the
interior that they look at more. Because both Jordan Jackson
and Jasrique I think are twenty seven.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
I think they both are.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
And with that being the case, it's the same age
as Devon Veley. And if you're the sixth guy, seventh
guy in that group, you're probably not gonna see a
lot of playing time. Anyway, bo, you could get some value.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Hey, bottom line is at least a running back has
to go. Bottom line, here's here's my guess.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Estimate will get cut, Watson will get cut.
Speaker 5 (05:39):
They'll bring back Watson on the practice squad.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
When you get hurt and estimate, Yeah, what's the extent
of that injury?
Speaker 5 (05:44):
I was wondering and he limped off the field. That
doesn't look good.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
But estimate, my guess is due gets cut. Somebody's gonna
pick him up.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
I limped down the stairs today to go get coffee.
I limp every morning out of bed. I woke up
this morning.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
My lord back.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I'm like, you know what you know, Brett when you
kind of post and turn out of eh, yep, what's that?
That happened to me? Anyway? Old man without a prostate.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
My right knee has been clicking for three straight months
and it hurts, and I just guess this is what
my knee is now.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Hey, Nelly, if you had a beat ready to go,
I could wrap a new wrap over Brett's click and
right knee.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Nope, don't you got a click and right knee. This
is one of those don't indulge the addict. Don't indulge
the addict.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I just I look at this roster and there's not
a whole lot of Again, we'll find out and maybe Vic,
maybe you're right, because it used to be that way.
It used to be. Oh boy, that guy, uh, you know,
that guy got cut and we weren't expecting that. If
even if it's a guy that we like or a
guy who's been around. I kind of am expecting everything
that I think that's coming down the pike.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Yeah, I don't think. I don't see for a surprise, right.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
I don't think I'm I don't think I'm being surprised here.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
I don't think so either.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
And that's just I think that's sort of a credit
to what they've built. They don't really have the veteran
guy that's sort of like maybe just hanging on to
a year or two left, Like that guy doesn't exist.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
I don't know. Hey, they followed my instructions with Drake Greenlaw.
Speaker 6 (07:16):
I said, don't even play him in the preseason, and
that's exactly what they did.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Yeah, no, need, why even risk it?
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Let them let them dress well, but you hold on
a second. That's like letting Cinderella dress up with the goal,
the glass slippers or everything, not let her go to
the ball. I mean, he's all he's all dressed up,
ready to go, and then they're like, yeah, let's just
chill out. Give him the feel of like putting the
gear on and tapping up and everything. Okay, that's cool,
(07:45):
all right, that sounds fun.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
The way buzzed head Sean Payton in the postgame press conference.
It's it's a weird sight. Not used to seeing the
buzzed head.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
A little freaky, little freakopolis.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
That's football season. He's getting ready.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Hey, Vic Brett posed the question to me last week.
I want to pose it to you. He said, what
do you need to see out of this first team offense?
And I said, what, Here's what I need to see,
and here's what I think they want to see. And
I predicted it right. I'm like they when their butts
hit the bench, they need to go. They need to
hit the bench with some some positive touchdown. Yeah, with
some positivity big time. And so you're right, Sean Payton
(08:20):
would have left him out there the whole time. But
my question, But I said, Vic, I'm still even if
it doesn't look great, come Week one against Tennessee, they're
going to win that game. I think they're going to
work everything out that week. Anyway, I feel still positive
about this team and about the guys they've added on
the offensive side of the ball and so on. Where
(08:42):
do you stand right now?
Speaker 5 (08:44):
I still have questions about the run game.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
I still have questions about the first team offense, and
those questions will remain.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Until they get to play real games.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
The first team offense, although it proved productive at the
end of their series, it wasn't easy.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Like nothing came easy.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
You know, when you're watching offenses, you're like, huh yeah,
just matricu late down that field nice and easy.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
What came easy.
Speaker 6 (09:08):
Every big game was a great catch, tough catch in
a running throw from bow Knicks to Courtland sun Yeah right.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
I mean, the the hope is that that is just
because you're running vanilla play calls. And I told moj this,
I put it in the it would be nice category.
They've They've earned my trust, So until they lose it,
I'm going to trust that the offense is going to
(09:38):
be fine.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
You know, there's some things that they didn't do.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Well last year, running the football being one of them
that you're you're still looking to see. But if they
left after that second drive, I think I'd just be like,
all right, whatever, I get it.
Speaker 6 (09:51):
But I'll tell you this, the the son of Courtland
Sunton proves so important now when you watch the chemistry
he he has with bow Nicks. On that touchdown drive alone,
it started holding Troutman Mims, no game personal foul, just
a dumb one on. Uh who was that personal foul
(10:12):
on for the Saints? Just dumb Yeah, Harvey, no gain nothing,
knicks roll out to Sutton for.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Forty three yards. You gotta see a lot of that
roll out too, and he runs it. Well, yeah, that
will roll out play. Yeah, he can throw on the run.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
You know.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
It's funny on that touchdown to Sutton in which Cortland
had a you know change, he sort of had to
change his body to go back and get it. There
were two guys open that he could have thrown to.
There were two guys open. Evan Ingram on the right
side of the field was wide open. And I'm never
(10:50):
going to dismiss the touchdown pass, but it's pretty obvious
to me.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Courland Sutton is his first, second, and third rate.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yes, yeah, that's his Uh yah you ever see mister
mom No, he had had a woobie little blankie, right, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
That's that's what Courtland Sutton is.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Courtland Sutton is his twenty million dollars would be and
you know what he's worth every damn penny. I kept
I kept thinking of myself, Golly, Vick, you are so
right in the first two minutes of this program. The
value of Courtland Sutton for this football team is probably
more actually paying him with his new contract.
Speaker 7 (11:30):
You know.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
I mean, he's he's He's Boniz's Wooby. He just makes plays, man,
he just makes He just makes dang plays.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
There's always that that battle that you have where it's
like it's the the value conversation.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
And.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Fans tend to overvalue some guys in their own roster,
but sometimes they get it exactly right. Like Aaron Gordon's
value to another NBA team is much less than his
value to the Denver Nuggets right now, like what he
brings to the table most there's a million guys like that.
Like I think Logan O'Connor is one of those guys
for the Avs where I'm like, the value that he
(12:07):
brings to that team specifically is way bigger than it
looks like to the rest of the league.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
By the way, Vic, I'll tell you what coming up
after the next break, I'm gonna tell you a little
bit about talked to Logan O'Connor yesterday. Oh good, yeah,
big the Big Abs Alumni versus the dou Alumni game
last night at magnet.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Fun to watch, dude.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
It was like virtually sold out. It was huge.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
So we'll get there in a couple of them.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
I'll see it. I'll give you, I'll give you all
the in.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
But I think Cortland's that guy for the for the
Broncos right now. It's like his value to other teams
across the league. You would you would understand if it's
less than what you value that as the den You're
so right.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
It's about being a piece of a certain puzzle. Yeah,
you know, some pieces don't fit. I mean very much
like your situation, Brett. Your value here is pronounced, it's important,
but out in the real world or nobody, useless, nothing, Yes,
just a.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Reckless I would say, just a bucket of dirt. And
if it wasn't for your lovely wife, Lindsay, you'd be
dead in the ditch. That is also true.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Okay, if it wasn't for your co host on this
show and you being a part of the show, you
might as well just hand it.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Well.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
I'm happy to be employed.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Hey from the one, nine, two four, I didn't realize this,
and I love that movie. I guess I didn't pay
attention to this. They called it a woobie, right, the
kids blank They called it a wooby because if it
was any bigger, it will be a blanket like it
was that it was the kid's safety valve. Deal. Hey,
it's a great movie.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
I think fourth time, Michael, the fourth time?
Speaker 3 (13:41):
What is what?
Speaker 5 (13:43):
That's that's neat Cortland.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Sutton is bo Nix's wooby. That's all I'm saying. And
that's a cute little thing.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Man.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Hey, if it was any bigger, it would be a blanket.
That's cute, called a woobie. But I'm out. I work
for the day is done. My value here is apparently
not as because Brice, I'm worth less than a buck
the duds. I'm gonna go hit the bricks late.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
I knew I was in for one today. What I
said at six point fifty this.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Morning, audric estimate is a burly behemoth of a human being.
And then Mosh immediately who walked in the studio started
doing a private show in my ear. As I'm trying
to do the show, I knew we were in for
one today.
Speaker 7 (14:29):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
But when we.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Returned, Moje was I'll find some value for.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
You now on stage three.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yeah, okay, Veronica Okay, Moze does have value. He was
at the Avalanche alumni game yesterday and had a conversation
with the currently injured Logan O'Connor. We'll get to it next.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Yeah, he's been really good, so is Davis. Really good
pace in the third period? Heresy hatefu Hey dude, just
like all times. That's right.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Avalanche alumni game yesterday, very very cool. Mos I know
you had a chance to talk to a whole bunch
of people. We talked to Peter Forsberg on Friday.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
M L.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Nanner, boy boy, that was Portal.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Jesus, Nelly, Nelly, Nelly, Nelly, Nelly, Nelly.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
I watched your interview with Peter Forsberg when I was away, Okay,
I watched it.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
It was outstanding. He is one. I was telling a
friend of mine, you know those athletes where you're still like, whoa,
this is whoa? You know this?
Speaker 6 (15:48):
Iskman texted me and he's one of those guys.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Merekman texted me in the middle of it and he said,
are you lost in his eyes right now?
Speaker 5 (15:56):
And I was, he's got an aura. I don't know
something about him, some of about Forstburg.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
He's just so like.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
He's so easy going and relaxed. He's just relaxed all
the time and just like, yeah, it's not that bad.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
The cheers, the cheers, so Magnus Arena, it's virtually sold out.
I don't know if it was or not, but it
looked like it was. And the cheers for Sachek and
Forstburg last night in footer were I mean, you fans
are awesome. I mean you really are. Even the young'ins
were going crazy for the legends. It was really really cool. Man. Uh,
(16:31):
Joe didn't play and Adam didn't play, but Peter did
and boy, he wanted a goal so bad. Let me
give credit to Matt Davis, two time national champion for
the Du Pioneers. He stared down. I did an interview
with him in the second intermission. He stared down a
breakaway by Peter Forsburg, and he stopped him on numerous occasions.
I mean, some great shots and Maddy Davis made the saves,
(16:52):
but he stopped him on a breakaway. And I'm like,
there are not too many goalies on this planet who
have stared down a breakaway from Peter Forsburg and lived
to tell the tale. Right he was. It was Vicky
was just so much fun. Everybody had a great time.
It's seven to seven through regulation, so you go to
a shootout. I think it was seven shooters. Both goalie
stopped everything. Max Laquaix, Eric's son, and the late great
(17:14):
Pierre mcquaw's grandson, who is a goalie at BU played
for the for the Avalanche and he stopped everything too.
I mean, both goalies stopped everything. And then and then
the the Pios scored. Dylan gambrell Uh scored in a
shootout and wanted for the Pios late eight to seven.
But it was a it was just so much funny
(17:35):
to see those legends and for those guys, and I'm
on the du bench talking to those guys, like, man,
it's so cool to see Peter Forsburg. Every like they
were like they were loving to play against these guys,
even guys who played in the NHL, even guys like
Troy Terry who are playing in the NAG. It's like
a local baseball team.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
It's like, hey, you want to play against Vinie Castilla
and Larry Walker and you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Like, hey, it's Peter freaking Forstburg. Yeah, you know, it's
Peter Forsburg.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
Any athletes again around that elicit that kind of reaction.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Yeah, Vick, he fed Hey Duke for a goal, and
I'm like, oh my, I had flashbacks to twenty five
years ago. I'm like, that is that those two?
Speaker 5 (18:14):
I hit Matty Davis with the postage stamp goal. That
would have been nice.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Yeah. He Peter shot first of the shootout and he
obviously it was stopped, but he wanted one so bad
and the crowd would have went crazy. But he Yeah,
he played great.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
Let me tell you what's great?
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Fun? So much fun.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
Last night I just rewatched this.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
So it's during the first intermission and Keifer's talking to
Tyson Berry, who's got a beer in his hand, and
then drops an F bomb right there on live TV.
And then Keifer like screams and runs away from him.
Tyson Mary By the way, it just uh an ass retirement.
So his career is now done. I don't know did
that happen during the broadcast last night, because I see
(18:55):
NHL fifteen minutes ago said Tyson Barry's calling it a career.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Well, yeah, and he played in Calgary last year, but
but but was down to the eighth I mean, he's
been around for an awfully long time. I mean awesome
defenseman for the Colorado Avalache. He looked great last night.
To Peter Mueller. Uh do you Victor remember Peter Mueller
came over in the Coyotes trade years and years ago.
Rob Blake ran him and then Lords. Okay, one of
my favorite all time players. Peter Muller just won a
(19:19):
championship in Europe and then so he's a month removed
from retirement himself. Like some of these guys can really
still play the game. Cogliano was the number one star.
He can play the game. Halvar looked great. I mean
a ton of the du guys were flying out.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
There was peterm awesome, the guy that I thought was
Brent Burns at the at the golf thing that front.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Yes, he did look kind of like him.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
I don't know, I don't know, yeah, but but Mueller was, Man,
what's up with DJ? Does he still want to play?
I think he still wants to play, but he's kind
of like, I don't have to play. You know, we'll
see what kind of comes up. There's still time. I
asked Dylan Gambro the same thing, and he, uh, of course,
right now is the UFA. I'm like, what, you know,
(20:03):
what do you want to do? He's like, you know,
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
I'm cool.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
I'm taking my time. I haven't signed with anybody yet,
but you know, it's it's cool. So we'll see. We
see what kind of offers come Ejay's way, whether it's
here or someplace. I mean, I'm not talking here, but
like the US or someplace. Ell. I don't know. We'll see,
you know.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Not to switch to football. But on that subject, last
I checked and correct me if I'm wrong.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
I've been gone a couple of days. Justin Simmons is
still available, right he has signed anywhere?
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Yes, yeah he has not.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
That's crazy an entire training camp, but I guess he didn't.
You know what, do you know?
Speaker 4 (20:38):
It's crazier no room in Denver for Justin Simmons. They're good,
they're fine, you know what I mean. Like, they're at
the point now where they don't need Justin Simmons. It
wouldn't even Yeah, it'd be nice to have some team
will though, Oh sure this is the day, yeah, today tomorrow,
after all these waivers and all this stuff, this is
the week.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
Well Justin kind of did this last year. Right where
he waited a hill.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Now it wasn't this long, but he waded deep into
camp before he signed with Atlanta. Correct if I remember correctly,
I think that's what happened. Anyway, just quickly mos before
he move on. You talk to Loc. Talked to Loc
last night. By the way, he looks great.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
He's back on.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
The ice because he has the same hip injury that
he had like the other in the other.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Hip, and it's not as bad. So he's and he
knows the whole. I think if a guy goes through
one thing, he's like, I know I got this. I
know exactly what to expect, what to do, and it's
not as bad. He looks. He looks great. He's excited
to get back and again, once you fix these you're good,
he said.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
If I remember last year, we talked to him at
the food Bank of the Rockies tournament that they do
every year, and he goes, it's not bad.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
He goes, it's just tedious, right, that's exactly right.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
It doesn't hurt, it doesn't do anything, but it's just
like tedious work to get this back to where it
needs to be.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
But he looked, he looked great. He was on the bench.
Former Avalanche Joe Coleborn was on the bench for the Pioneers.
He's finally healthy and looking good and feeling good. It
was just the whole thing. Vic was a It was
really well done. So I'm gonna credit Julian JML and
Key for and all the people a du for putting
this together. Everybody was into it. And I'm talking to
(22:20):
coach Squas Deki. This is after the second the second period.
I go, these guys are kind of they're amping up here.
He goes. If it's late, if it's tied late or
it's close, lady goes. You watch and see he goes.
Somebody may even block a shot and you know what,
And guys were sacrificing in front of their own net.
(22:41):
It was hysterical and it was awesome. They mean, they
really went forward late. It was really really cool. Man,
just a great great This is a great night overall.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
We talked about this a lot on Friday. Vick, you
missed this, and if you didn't hear it, I'm gonna
have Nelly c it up again. It's one of my
favorite things that I've heard in probably years on this show.
Have there's audio clips that stick out in my mind forever.
It's Jesse Spins thing. It is a fat and sassy lady.
It's uh, sweet Lucy getting run over in the driveway.
(23:11):
Like there's a few. I think this one's gonna stick it.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
But can you imagine can you imagine coming to this
program as a new listener and going, what do you
mean Lucy, sweet Lucy getting thumped in the drive Yeah?
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Yeah, Like people are like, what I don't I want
everybody to be I want everybody to be in on
the jokes, but we can't do this for everything. Vic
Here is Jerry Jones talking to Michael Irvin on a
podcast about Micah Parsons and an offered contract that he
gave to him and his agent.
Speaker 7 (23:45):
We wanted to send the details to the agent. The
agent so was to stick it up our assa what
do you mean.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
I've gone?
Speaker 7 (24:01):
Yeah, Mike and I talk and then we were gonna
send it over to the agent and we had our
agreemuds on term amun guarantees everything. We're gonna send it
over to the agent and the agent said, uh, don't bother.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
So yeah, Jerry Jones saying that is going to stick
in my head forever, I think.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
What's gonna happen here, because I'll give you a couple
of Parsons a couple updates.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
Is this Jerry Jones is talking wild trash about this agent.
Micah Parsons has, if you're into this kind of thing,
removed anything Cowboys related from his social media accounts. His
header picture is now a picture of him when he's
at Penn State. And now Micah Parsons was falling asleep
(24:50):
on a training table during their final preseason game. He
was the only one, by the way, not in uniform
for the Dallas Cowboys during that.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
What do you do?
Speaker 3 (24:58):
And you if you're Michael Parson, look, I understand what
you're trying to make a statement to the franchise, but
you can't do that again, Yeah, you look like an
absolute baby. You can't do that. So that was embarrassing
for him, And.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
That's disrespecting your teammates, not Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
And he's never disrespected his teammates in this entire process.
He's been there, you know, he's he's at camp, he's
in his uni. But that was that was so over
the top. And Brian Schottenheimer is gonna have to talk
to him today. But Vic, this is Jerry Jones MO
and you probably know what's going back to the days
over thirty years ago when you covered him. He likes
to bring he likes to bring players into his office
by themselves and work thing, you know, pivot. He pivots
(25:37):
the convo from hey, how you doing a family? How's
the family to let's talk about your two.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Hundred million dollars in guarantees.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
That's sound good to you.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
So then he thinks he's got something, but the agent's like, no, no, no, no,
you don't do this without me.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
This is the only issue that comes up when the
owner is also the general manager, because emotions get in
the way of deals. And when the owner gets emotional
and he's also the general manager, you're done.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
It's pretty much over.
Speaker 6 (26:04):
Which is why you know people always say, what role
does the agent play in a lot of this stuff? Well,
the agent takes on the emotion so that the player
doesn't have to. Most you've heard those stories about when
hockey players had to go to those what did they
call those old when they had to negotiate a contract
(26:24):
and they had to meet face to face.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
And the players would walk away.
Speaker 6 (26:29):
From those arbitration meetings in tears literal tiers.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
Because they were told they were this and that not
good enough. It's the team.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
It's the team's job to even if the player, but
it's the team's job to point out every little thing
about you that's not good or so.
Speaker 6 (26:47):
When your owner and you're in charge of the purse
strings of the franchise, is also the evaluator and general
manager and the person who assesses contracts, this is what
you get.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
I just you can't disrespect somebody as good as Michael Parson.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
You can't.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
ESPN just came out with their twenty twenty five Top
one hundred rankings and Michael Parsons comes in at number nine.
That's how good of a player he is. That's how
important he is to this league, to that team, and
so on. If I'm a Dallas Cowboy, I cannot envision
going into Week one against Philly without Michael Parsons.
Speaker 5 (27:27):
I just clicked on that.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
Yeah, there's already a giant mistake that I've noticed at
number ninety eight, which is Garrett Bowles. They have the
ninety eighth best player in the league for the Seahawks.
They have them as a Seattle Seahawks you gotta be kidney.
Speaker 6 (27:38):
Yeah, yeah, Well, maybe Michael Parsons out to go back
and play college a year or two because Penn State
may win the national title this year.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
They're loaded. They are loaded. We'll see.
Speaker 7 (27:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
I'm just figure they got their entire backfield coming back.
I'll never not laugh at that. I think it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Well, we talked about it last week Thick on Friday.
There's something about an old Southern guy. H He says
something like this. It's so like that that just sort
of stands out a little bit.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
Just for a couple of minutes. We'll get back to
football at a second. Remember how we were just talking
about how Tommy Fleetwood has never won a Tour event
in his life and he's finished like top five, He's
finished second multiple times. You just can't find a way
to do it. Well, he chose the final tournament of
the year, the Tour Championship, to win ten million dollars
in his.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
First w of his career, which is, it's pretty nice.
I won one tournament in my life.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
It got me ten million dollars when I did it.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Pretty sweet.
Speaker 6 (28:35):
Yeah, And he he was a good two shots ahead
there going into the final hole and didn't have to
sweat it out too badly, found some room for air,
hooked his approach shot on eighteen, but only I had
to do his two.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Putt to win the tournament. Yeah, it's fun to watch
him finally exhale after that. Did you see him?
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Just yeah?
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Oh for great sure.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
And you know what, you know you're a good guy
when everybody on the tour is rooting for you.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
Everybody yep.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Well, he had the same opportunity because he never won
on the PGA Tour. And again he's been regarded as
a top ten player on the planet for almost a decade,
right vics something like that. I mean, he's he's always there.
He just never could win. So late June at the
Travelers he blows it in the last hole and lost
(29:26):
the Keegan Bradley a couple of weeks ago at the
in Memphis in the Saint June, he blows it. He
blows it down, blows it down the stretch and doesn't
even get in the playoff. And he had to lead then, yep.
So for him to hang on, to overcome those two
blow its and to hang on to win, it's a
very very popular win on the tour in addition to
(29:48):
with the fans.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
I'll tell you what's especially great about this that he
beat Patrick Cantley. That guy's gotta go. I can't.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
That can't be allowed.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
No, I can't either. Remember what I said.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
My reason behind why I wanted the tush push band
in the NFL is because it's boring, and I think
sports should enter they they should. They should step in
when something is just not aesthetically pleasing for the sport,
even though there's like it's not against the rules or whatever,
you need to step in and be like, this is
(30:19):
not allowed. If you do this again, I'm docking like
a stroke or something.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
You can't talk about him taking it.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
You can't take forty seconds lined up over the ball
to hit a shot. Okay, you can't do it.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
You know. My younger brother, And by the way he
was criticized, can't. He was criticized all weekend long. It
wasn't just the final round, it was the entire weekend.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
My younger brother is sort of in one where he's
overthinking a shot and he's doing the pre shot routine
where he's going over and over, and I finally told
him and said, I'm not playing with you till you
fix that. Yeah, I can't do it.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
I don't blame you. I'm not doing I'm not gonna
sit there. I can't. I mean, seriously, you you played
with those kind of people before. It's terrible. You played
with those people before. They take forever to hit the ball.
We all will agree on this.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
You you don't care if the guy you're playing with sucks.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
You can be bad at golf.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Just be bad hundred percent. I got paired with a kid,
I don't know a couple of years ago and he goes, hey,
I'm kind of a slow player, and immediately and I go,
I go, I'm sure it'll be fine. I had absolutely
no idea. Dude. Three holes later, I made up an
excuse that I'd eating a bad burrito when.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
I took off, Like, what was he doing? Give me
an example of a slow player, Give me an example
of what here?
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Here's what I don't like. Dude, line up the shot.
I mean we're talking about let's say the middle of
the fairy lining up this, you know, behind the ball,
not once but twice, standing over the ball. A waggle,
I mean tons of you know, Sergio waggles like Kevin naw,
Like I mean, it was excruciating because all of us,
what do we do? We step up to the ball
and we hit the damn ball. Yep, we step up
(31:57):
to the ball. It takes us a couple of seconds,
maybe a practice, and we hit the ball. That's it.
I don't know. Look, I'm also not playing for millions
of dollars.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
But yeah, that dude's the guy that joined you that
said he's a slow player.
Speaker 5 (32:10):
You're not playing for any money.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
It was excruciating.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
Line up and shoot. Uh, we have to get to
which player was in the groove from the final preseason game.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
Uh, in just a second. As well.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
As I was looking at that list, ESPN has a
they got a big problem here with their top one
hundred players in the league. Moch A huge problem that
we'll get to in just a couple of minutes. You
can listen to us anywhere on the Altitude Sports Radio app,
but is powered by the Will Height Law Firm injury
lawyer's good Will heightwins dot com. That's Will heightwins dot com.
(32:43):
All right, we'll get to who's in the groove in
a moment, but just quickly here mos, I was looking
at this top one hundred that ESPN has out of
players heading into this season.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Interesting, there's only three Broncos on it.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
Nick Benito's not one, really.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Which I think is absolutely in what.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
Are we doing here? What are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (33:04):
How is Nick Benito not a top one hundred player
in this league? Vick? According to ESPN, I.
Speaker 6 (33:10):
Don't do these lists, you guys. You guys get crazy
about these lists.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Sir Tannis was he six? Six? Yeah, so he's six,
and then it's.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Sir Tan Minor, Zach Allen, Garrett Bulls, so four.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Four of them. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
I mean, I don't do these lists.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
Let's come up with our own list and if somebody
from another market get mad.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
I don't like it, I'm allowed not to like it. Vic,
I'm allowed. Nick Benito is the top one hundred player.
It has to be a simple oversight on their list,
has to be could be anyway.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
I blame Legwall, He's in charge. Who wrote it? Who
wrote the list? It's a it's a combination of ESPN staff.
It's like everybody kind of writes something.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
Do you guys see.
Speaker 6 (33:52):
Somebody as KD most recently on the Twitter machine, X
machine whatever you want to call it. A pretty poignant question.
They asked, Hey, kd Trey, they reached right out to him.
What makes Jamal Murray so dangerous as an individual player
and one of the best guards you've played against? Kevin
Durant responded to that tweet leading question, Yeah, I know,
(34:17):
say something nice about you. He responded by saying, supreme
shot maker from anywhere, and that's accurate.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Hey, mos, what do you like best about how nice
and cool and awesome I am?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I don't think I feel that way? Well, yeah, right
from stage right now.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Well, the fact that Vic you started this off with,
Somebody asked Katie, I thought it might have been going
in the direction of I don't think he's that good
because he would say something like that.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
No, they Jamal Murray has respect her on this league.
But Vic, the art of the mid range shot? Is
is it gone? Now?
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Is it history?
Speaker 6 (34:57):
Well, I could say this about Jamal Murray. I don't
think in the history of the Denver Nuggets organization. I'm
trying to think, just off the top of my head,
who was made more memorable shots? Jamal or Joker?
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Jamal? No, it's Jamal Now jokers made.
Speaker 6 (35:16):
Some like he made a couple three quarter heaves. He
made that three pointer to beat Golden State, if you
remember that went off the backboard.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
He's made a couple.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
I would say the biggest shot or the most memorable
shot to me probably still joker. It's that end of
the shot clock against the Lakers, ste Ad.
Speaker 6 (35:37):
But the jamal Ja consists of that shot in that series,
the one that clinched the series in Game five, that shot,
the one in Portland the year that they won the
the NBA Championship to beat the Blazers from three.
Speaker 5 (35:56):
He beat the Suns from three on one of those
exact same type of shots. He's had a ton of
game winners. Daggers, Well, we're just.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Yeah, yeah, we were just talking about the other day.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Mos.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
When you have big playoff moments, they aren't always from
your guy. The biggest moment of the as run to
the Cup a few years ago was Darren Helm. Darren
Helm's goal was like the biggest goal the entire run.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Huge goal. Hey, uh, we may be wrong about something, Bret.
Let me look here, hang on a second.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
Oh, put bup.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I just have to right now, I have to sort
of fix it. But put up?
Speaker 4 (36:33):
What are you throlling through the entire top one hundred.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Well, people are seeing that Benito's thirty eighth, and I'm like, no,
he's not a Jalen.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
They're probably thinking NFL Top one hundred.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Yeah, the NFL top This is the top one hundred. Okay,
my bad, My bad. I didn't mean to hijack that.
I apologize.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
Trust your boy, I read so do I?
Speaker 5 (36:55):
Nelly? Can we get grooving? Give me groove?
Speaker 4 (37:01):
It is time to pick dig which player from the
Denver Broncos was in the groove he's for preseason game
number three?
Speaker 5 (37:11):
Most who's in the groove it.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
One hundred percent is Cortland Sutton. I mean the back
shoulder catch Vic on fourth down for a thirty or
forty three yard gain and a touch he was. I
don't need to see a damn thing else out of him.
As far as I'm concerned, Cortland Sutt is the perfect
Denver Bronco I think, so I couldn't ask for another.
(37:33):
As d Light says Vic, who is.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
In the groove from preseason game number three?
Speaker 6 (37:40):
Well, I mean, I hate to say it's the same guy,
but if you're looking for someone to get a first down,
score a touchdown, move the chains it's Courtland Sutton. He
is a receiver one w R one. He could be
receiver one and two all wrapped into one. He's the guy.
He's been in the groove. It was a great signing.
He was a great extension. He's a heady player, elite
(38:00):
of this team. And without him, I'm not sure where
the Broncos passing game is.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
I'll give you a Who's in the groove. It's a
little bit different. I think Jonallis has been in the
groove all preseason. I can't wait for year two and
what that brings for him. But how about this, how
about ke Robinson with a strip sack in that game,
his first of his career. Weile preseason, but still first
really big moment as a Bronco fourth round pick coming through.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
That is Who's in the Groove? Start here, Go Anywhere.
Groove Toyota on South Broadway and Groovetoyota dot Com the
proud presenting sponsor of Who's in the Groove that song.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
See this is away before your time. But I bet Vic,
I bet Vic got down to this hard.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
Well, this sounds like some jock jams sort of stuff
right here.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
This is dlight.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
I don't like this song?
Speaker 3 (38:54):
What just being honest?
Speaker 5 (38:58):
What dare you little too frivolous, cartoonish and now do
to do cartoons?
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Frivolous and cartoonish?
Speaker 5 (39:05):
You say I'm a meat and potatoes type of music listeners. Hey,
can I ask you guys a question.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
The Broncos played their starters actually quite a bit during
this preseason. I know they didn't play for a week two,
but got some run the first game, got three drives
in the last game. Here is the list of starting
quarterbacks who did not take a snap in the preseason.
Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Jared Goff,
Dak Prescott, Baker Mayfield, Michael Pennix, and Matthew Stafford who's.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Hurt for a lot. Michael Pennix.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Do you think that's smart for Atlanta not to play
Michael Pennix who was barely played so far?
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (39:45):
I do not, No, Like I'm sorry for not paying
attention to Atlanta Falcons preseason football. I'll say you know
what that is. That's my bad.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
Everybody else in that list, I get those are quarterbacks
been in the league like seven, eight, nine plus years,
like you. You understand Pennix is a little bit different story. Now,
the ultimate question is what do you stand to gain
from I don't know how many total plays le Broncos had,
what sixteen seventeen eighteen as the first team offense.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
What do you gain from that chemistry?
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Okay, well, everybody you mentioned, I think Vic outside of
Penis has a legiti reason not to play well.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Sean McVay, his his thing is he doesn't think there's
any value in getting starters in the preseason because he's
never done it.
Speaker 5 (40:33):
Sean McVay has never done that ever.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
And he has a Super Bowl under his belt, which
is fine, which is good. I think it depends on
the situation. I mean, when you're bringing in to Matt
Stafford for crying out loud, he doesn't need sure a
ton of reps in the preseason, if any, to be
honest with you, And again, if i'm if I'm Baltimore,
you think of putting Lamar out there? No, I don't
need to put Lamar out there. Philly does not need
(40:55):
to put Jalen Hurts out there.
Speaker 5 (40:57):
No, did you guys? Did you get go ahead?
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Vick?
Speaker 6 (40:59):
I just thought of some thing now that you mention
it that way, every football game from here on out
actually counts no more of this fake stuff.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
They county. That's awesome, because.
Speaker 6 (41:15):
I'll be honest with you, I can't watch the fake
football like I can't.
Speaker 5 (41:19):
I don't watch much of.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
The other league.
Speaker 5 (41:23):
Why is he taking his helmet? What is the other
What is the other league?
Speaker 3 (41:26):
What do you? I don't watch the.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
Rest of the NFL fake football.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
I watched a couple of shiteduor series, but I won't
watch it.
Speaker 5 (41:32):
It does nothing for me. Did I know you did it?
Speaker 3 (41:35):
It does? I did it?
Speaker 6 (41:36):
It does absolutely nothing for me. I've never been a
fan of it. I never will be. It's not real,
it's it's vanilla. There's nothing about it that means anything
to me. I might as well watch the UFL.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Hey, uh, did you guys?
Speaker 3 (41:50):
Why is it? Why is it? When I utter the
same theme, maybe not the same words because that was
a little harsh from Vic, but I uttered the same
about it.
Speaker 5 (42:05):
I'm being real. I mean, I'll give you an example.
I'll give you a Saturday Saturday I get. I'll give
you an example. I had told the Jerry.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Jones that stuff. When I say, are you ready for this?
Speaker 6 (42:17):
There's a real football game on college football game and
there's a fake football game involving the Broncos.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
I had both on my screen, but I'm not gonna
lie to you. I paid more attention to the real game.
Stick you know what I did. This is the sickle.
Speaker 4 (42:37):
I am Broncos preseason game one TV Lions preseason game
other TV case state. I was stayed on my phone.
I was, I was doing it all. I was trying
to get mid season fourm with my multi view.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
I mean, I was trying my best.
Speaker 6 (42:52):
And after the Broncos first team offense left the field,
how dare you?
Speaker 3 (42:58):
I I got?
Speaker 4 (43:01):
Do you miss two Robinson stripsack?
Speaker 5 (43:03):
I saw it, but I wasn't really paying attention to it. Guys,
I'm I'm sorry. I can't. Okay this It's fine. Well
that's done. I got one other thing break.
Speaker 6 (43:14):
I'm excited that the games now everything is real, right,
competition is real.
Speaker 4 (43:19):
I got I got something just real quick that I
wanted to get to before the break. Because we brought
up Michael Pennock Junior. So there was an unfortunate chiron
a week ago at a local Atlanta affiliate that had
his name is Michael Penis Junior. Did you guys see
