Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Moser, Lombardy and Caine on demand. Listen live
every weekday morning from seven to ten on Altitude Sports
Radio NOTT two five and on the Altitude Sports Radio app.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
This is so uh so epitome of Michael McDonald.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
It really is. It's like the quintessential Michael McDonald.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
It is.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Hey, now that the fifty three man roster is set.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Strongest, oh a Mosure, you're you're let's get to your
musing about the Broncos because I have a question about
the fifty three man roster.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Now.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
I like the way you just He's just sort of like, yeah,
let's get to your little musings.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well, I'm trying to think this has been a running
theme all training camp long, and I get optimism. But
you hear McAfee the other day in his Merry Band
of Misfits and talking about the Broncos and everything else,
and I did not. You can't swing a dead armadillo
by the tail without hitting somebody who's gonna go man,
the Broncos are going to be good.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
As Nate Krekman and Lindell said, nobody's talking about the
fact that everybody's talking about the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
That is correct, that's that's so funny. Why do I
still have a little fear in me? And I'm trying
to think I think it's unguided fear. It just exists.
I'm not trying to manipulate it or anything like that.
It's just it's just there, and I don't know why.
It's probably unfounded as well. I'll explain. You have a
(01:40):
great movie, right, I would say the Broncos season last year,
Vic getting the rookie quarterback in having to do what
he did and grow throughout the year, and they go
to the postseason. I don't care about the postseason loss.
I dont even care about the score. But that was
a that was a good movie, was it not. Yeah,
You're like, okay, here comes a sequel, and how many
times have you I've seen all the trailers and so
(02:01):
what you have right now through the preseason, you've got
the trailers right called.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
A TV series. Season two is now coming out.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Okay, season two, and you're like, man, I hope it's
as good as season one. Like man Ted Lasso, season
one was good, see them with Breaking Bad. I hope
season two is good. Yeah, And then it is, and
that's a really good thing. And right now what you've
seen is the trailers for the upcoming season two. Let's
say I'm watching Barry right now getting into season two.
(02:29):
Yeah soon, good show because you recommended it.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
But how many times have you seen where you get
into season two and you're like, man.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
This kind of sucks, it happens, or you know.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
What, it's not as good as I thought it was
gonna be sure.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Yellowstone was like that, Yellowstone got worse as it went on.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Okay, So I'm trying to think though, what could make
what could make the Broncos sequel or season two not
as good. I look at the guys they got rid
of guys who played for this damn football team, Guys
that were guys that were players, and they're gone because
they've got that depth now. And Sean Payton was talking
(03:06):
about the depth. In fact, he just talked about it yesterday.
So what I guess what am I missing? Are they
really that good? Or why? Is everybody just I'm afraid
the sequel season two is just not going to be
as good as we think it is.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
Uh, you're you're you're basing that on Knicks. Is Bonnicks
gonna go through a sophomore slump. That's what you're basing that.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
But that's I don't think that he I really don't
think that he is.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
But that's your fear, because that's it is. That is
a fear.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, that they that that when when the when they
get to real action and you know, not against Tennessee
Tennessee stakes, but as they get into the season and
real defensive coordinators with real players who have really studied
the Broncos game film, what what happens then, which.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Is why it is of paramount importance that the Broncos
established a running game as fast as they can, because
if it's not working on the passing end, you have
to be able to gouge, you have to be able
to earn some yards on the ground. You have to
give your quarterback some relief by doing that. And you know,
at Don Dammy yesterday, guys, we talked so much about
(04:13):
Odric Estimate getting released and nobody was surprised. Here we
saw coming, but we should have saw that coming. The
moment they draft a running back and got a JK.
Dobbins as a free agent, they've made two moves that
pretty much told you what they were going to do.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Yeah, The only reason I didn't think that the writing
was on the wall right then, it was because I
didn't know who was going to be the holdover. I
thought maybe if he had a good camp, he could
outdo Jaliel he get out, you know what I mean, Like,
certainly I thought he could out du Tyler today.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
But that's what the Broncos.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
That's what Sean Payton thought of his running back room
so much that he completely turned it.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
On its head and say let's start over.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
I mean, the Broncos spent the off season doing what
contending teams should do, which is, we have a good
roster that's set up now. And especially the added benefit
think about this, they didn't lose anybody of substance. No
disrespect to people who aren't on the roster anymore, but
(05:13):
what was the biggest loss you had over the course
of the offseason, Cody.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
Barton, Like, who was it?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
And that's kind of the point.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
It's like they didn't have to have like a one
for one shift, so they could just focus on the
weaknesses of the team running back, tight end, linebacker, Like
they found the things that they needed. And the big
thing for me, like, when you talk about what do
they need to do to improve or what would make
(05:44):
the sequel better than last year? Moj I think the
answer is just very simple. I just want to see
a step forward. I want to I want to see
you get to the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
What is a step forward for you?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
When a playoff game?
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Okay? So what if you get to the playoffs in
the same manner you got there last year? One? Close
games don't be great teams just beat teams you're supposed
to beat. You get there, but you win a game.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
Is that a step forward? Because if you analyze their
season last year.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
How many winning teams did the Broncos beat?
Speaker 3 (06:10):
I think the Answers won. I think they beat Tampa that.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Their Keen City doesn't count because that game.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yeah, I don't count that, So I think it's one.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
So the schedule is a little more difficult this time
of ROUM, so it may be more difficult to get there.
So what if you see just a mirror image of
last year's result and now speak out of victory.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Now, I think, arguably, right now vic as we sit
right now, arguably they're a better team. Not even arguably
they are they're a better football team than they were
a team that won ten games and went to the postseason.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
I read this.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
The Denver Broncos return fifteen of sixteen defensive lineman and
was it defensive backs? It's it's maybe it's the offense
and defensive line fifteen of sixteen from last year. How
many teams in the National Football League can say that
we're doing none?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
I mean, yeah, it's gotta be like zero.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
That's that's an amazing number.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
And I'm not talking about let's talk about some horrible sequels.
I'm just not Maybe you're like the Born series.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
I love them all.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I think they're all awesome. They all just were good.
And maybe that's the Denver Broncos right now. Maybe this
the next seven seasons will be really good, you know.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah, Game of Thrones is come out.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
All their seasons were good at the ending. Yeah, but
they're all pretty dang good. Right well, it's just look,
maybe maybe maybe it'll be like that where they're just
good and some are better than others.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
But I don't know.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Let me read this from the Ringer. They've got Surprises
eleven future bets for the twenty twenty five NFL season,
and this rider on the Broncos over under of nine
and a half wins. He's betting the under and several
reasons under. Yeah, he's betting the under. And here's what
he says. Broncos will not get this docpile wins against
(08:01):
the NFC South this year. And I think it's more
likely they'll take a step back defensively than a step
forward with a low ceiling offense that's reliant on a
dominant offensive line and limited skill position talent. I think
Denver will struggle to improve on last year's showing. When
Denver played a lead opponents last year, it allowed forty
(08:22):
one to the Ravens, thirty to the Bengals, fifty seven
over two games to the Chargers, thirty one to the
Bills in the playoffs. When they played obscure opponents is
when their defense shined. And that's his point.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
But they're a better football team.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
I'm just giving you this guy. I'm just reading from
his I think that's fair.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I mean, I guess it's fair. But they're better offensively.
They have more skill now. I mean, just having having
Pat Bryant make your football team and the ability to,
you know, just to be there and the ability to
trade Devon Valley is huge.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
I just this guy's.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Hitting you over the head with numbers. Though here's another one.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
I mean, Troy Franklin has improved. You got Evan Ingram.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
You're basing your argument, and I don't disagree with you.
I agree with you, but our argument is based on Hope.
All right, his arguments based on numbers. Here's what he
sees last year, outside of the case game and end
of the season, which doesn't count. Denver finishes one in
five against playoff teams, eight and two against everybody else.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yep, that's a fact. And what that another one win
was Tampa? Correct?
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Yeah, that's a fact.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
So the schedule's harder this year. They're going to have
to play better this year if they're going to do
what they did last year, and that is go to
the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
I think everything that who was that from the ringer.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Who wrote that?
Speaker 5 (09:46):
Gentleman's name is Anthony.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Debundo, Okay, I think everything that he wrote very fair.
The difference is this and Vicky Wright.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
We're basing this.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Off Hope, but I don't think it's hopeful to say this.
Evan Ingram is way better than anybody who had at
tight end, and your running back room is going to
be better than it was last year. I to what
extent is the question, but I think they're both better.
And here's my retort, those are two pretty damn important things.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
To have on an offense.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Now in the NFL, go through the checklist of all
the best offenses in the league. Tell me their tight ends,
their running backs are. They're usually really really good.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
And you were, I would say you had the by far,
the worst tight end room in the league last year.
Speaker 6 (10:35):
By far.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
I think this guy will be the worst running back room.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
This guy's whole.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Point is pumped the breaks on the Broncos defense. We're
making it out to be the best defense, one of
the best of all time. There's a lot of talk
about that, let's pump the brakes, and he's just throwing
numbers at you. Here's another one. And he loses me
on this because I have no idea what the hell
this means. If you remove the Week eighteen outlier game
against the Chiefs backups that skewed the data, Yeah, the
Broncos finished eighteenth in offensive dv A and fourth in
(11:02):
defensive d v O A.
Speaker 6 (11:04):
I don't know what the hell d v O is.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Can you give us a little glimpse of what d
v O is.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I don't even know what that it means, Bob, value
the defense, defense adjusted value over average.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
All right, enough of the, enough of the enough for
the frigging gig talk. Wait, wait what go?
Speaker 2 (11:23):
It's an advanced stat.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
It's just it's it's a metrics.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
It measures the team's efficiency, is what it does.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
You mean defense, make it easier, time out, time out.
I'll make it easier for you. The Broncos finished. Listen, Moser,
Listen to me.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
I'm listening.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
The Broncos finished third last year. Listen to me. Stop
talking to Nelly.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
The Broncos finished third last year in points allowed per game.
Had they not been given the gift of a shutout
the last week because the Chiefs didn't care, they.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Wouldn't be thirty.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
I get that's what they're saying, got you, it'd be
probably like fifth or sixth.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
Then okay, then why don't you just say that not
give me DV over.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Because it's just another stat that's telling you the same thing.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I want you. I want I want you to hear.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
I'm not looking that up.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
I refuse to do it.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
I'm I'm just not doing it.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
I know it's I mean, listen, okay, fine, how about
the eye test? How about you know what Drake green
Law healthy kicks ass? Who fun a healthy kicks ass?
It reminds me of this guy right here?
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Why what not?
Speaker 1 (12:31):
So the compression, that expansion of the longitude in the
legs cause the erratic oscillations there of the neighboring particles?
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yes, what is it?
Speaker 2 (12:42):
What? What is it?
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Can we play everything?
Speaker 2 (12:44):
No?
Speaker 3 (12:44):
You can't play with it as money levels as I do.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
That if the professor from this professor from the Simpsons.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
That's what listen, Here's okay. Maybe I'm not as analytically
inclined as other people. Perhaps my small stack that hard
is not to COMPLI to wait to mess the defense
and off, I get it. But what I'm saying is
they're better. Okay, we're gonna have to wait. What's wrong
with just defensive rating? Hey man?
Speaker 6 (13:07):
How about Drake Greenlaws all pretty damn good?
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Who found is pretty damn good? Yes? You know Riley
Moss is advancing on his side too? How about that?
How about the you know, the defensive line is a
mauling group. And Zach Allen just got a brand new
contract He's going to kick some butt. Benito's highly motivated
to get to seventeen sacs this year. I mean, what
what how.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
About that stuff?
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Because you're basing that all on the hole because all
of see, your numbers are speculative. His numbers are fat.
They already happened.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Hang on, hang on them the Moser's credit.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
When we talk about the Nuggets this upcoming season, we've
never seen Valentiunis or Hardaway or guys like that Kanda
Nuggets uniform, but speculation all kind of feel like, hey,
vic is Yonis valentiunis the best backup center that Yokic
has ever had.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
Listen to me, You've heard me talk about the Nuggets
in years past. I have been close to the nest.
Was washing to speculation and predictions. I'm telling you right now,
Uggets fans, I'm telling you right now, this is a
championship team. Okay, anything less than a championship disappointed.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Going back to my question, is Yonis Valanciunas the best
backup center that Yoki's.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
Ever had based on his history?
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Yes, that's all we're getting at.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
It's like, yes, we haven't seen it yet, and it
is based on kind of hope. But I I kind
of know what Dre Greenlaw is. I kind of know
what Evan Ingram is. They're good players.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Let me let me look at something right now, Vic
and I'm just gonna just throw this out there. Tennessee sucks.
You want to talk about the the NFC. What he's
talking about the NFC? So Tennessee stinks. The Colts pretty
good defense actually, but they're not Colts one.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
This is a dangerous game that you're playing most because.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
The Giant stink, the Jets stink.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
You make these assumptions.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
So you say that now Washington.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Washington was the number two team in the draft last year.
Last year and then they went to the NFC championship game.
If I asked you, you would have said Washington stinks and
the Broncos would kill him.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
I'm going through the AFC South or that's what we're
not the NFC. I'm on away South.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
What you think today about these teams means nothing two
months from now?
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Sure nothing. He's right.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Oh, you think Tennessee, You think Tennessee's a chance to
come up here win?
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Most problem? What's coming up? Let me make it very easy.
You're smoking what's coming out of your mouth right now,
nobody will care two months from now.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Coming back Wellington web the former Denver mayor and op
ed talking about the Broncos Stadium and why should stay
in Denver.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
We'll talk to him next.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
Welcome back to Moser, Lombardi and Kine. We are pleased
to be joined now by former Denver mayor Wellington Webb,
who wrote an op ed piece in Westward about the
side of the new Broncos Stadium where it could be,
where it should be, and he has his opinion formed
and we want to get it today. So, uh, Mayor Web,
(15:48):
how you doing man? Thanks for joining. It's been a
long time since I saw it at Nuggets games.
Speaker 8 (15:53):
Uh yeah, I was gonna say, I normally see you
at Nugget games. I'm a wilmen. I have season ticket holders.
I just hope they don't keeping up on those prices.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Well, they may have to now after all the side.
Have you seen this roster before we get onto the Broncos.
I'm telling you right now, Mayor Web, this is a
championship team. This roster is as loaded as it's been
in a long time.
Speaker 8 (16:12):
I agree. I like Michael Porter, but we all knew
he was deficient in areas that needed to that they
needed to trade him and get some get some more horses,
and that they helped both Joke and Murray and Gordon.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
Yeah, they're gonna be good.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
All right.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
So you wrote this piece, uh for Westward. Before we
get into it, what prompted you to write this this?
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (16:31):
You just were feeling that this is important to tell
people that the stadium belongs in Denver. Why did you
do this? Oh?
Speaker 8 (16:37):
I thought people just driving around they needed they need
to make it. I think.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
All right, I think we've lost audio.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
They lost audio.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
I think we have.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Let's see what we can do here. Hold on a second,
we've lost your audio, Mayor. Let's see if we can
get it back. Uh, Nelly, why don't you work on
that with me?
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, he joins us.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
By the way, on the Ramas Law hotline car accident
eating Ramos Law medical doctor and attorney Ramas Law dot count.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
Sorry, Mayor, we lost you for a second. They're just
recap what you're saying. What prompt did you to write it?
Speaker 2 (17:10):
No?
Speaker 8 (17:11):
I thought there's a lot of a lot of driving
around in terms of that they don't know where they
want to go. I think they know where they want
to go their business people, and they're going to look
for the best deal, and I think the best deal
is Denver. I think if you look at the other
cities that have made decisions to split up their sports franchises,
and I normally use Detroit as an example of what
(17:32):
you saw was the Lions playing in Pontiac and the
Pistons playing at Auburn Hills and the Lions in the
baseball team playing at Briggs Stadium, which was following apart.
What we have in Denver is a perfect opportunity to
have all our sports teams in one entertainment area. But
sports I mean Broncos Avalanche baseball course field, and right
(17:57):
now we've also got the Broncos downtown as well. People
know it. Archid provides transportation, it's a sports hub, it's
a sports center. It works well for the bars, it
works well for the restaurants. And I think that you know,
the city's gonna do with Mayor Johnson's gonna do whatever
he has to do to make sure that they stay here.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
I think it's a great idea because I mean, if.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
He doesn't do what he needs to do to make
them stay here, I don't think he's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
I can't imagine them. I can't imagine them going out
of town. I can't even in the slightest And of
course you recall when cores Field, where the Rockies first
came about, and when cores Field was built, and when
the ball Arena was built and so on. I mean
the impact to downtown. You mentioned the restaurants and the
and everything else, the living, the people, it's the economic
(18:45):
impact is so significant. There's no possible way that this
could be held up by the city, is there.
Speaker 8 (18:53):
Well, I don't. I don't believe.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
So.
Speaker 8 (18:54):
I know that some other cities from Maryland the South
have moved some of their teams outside of the core city.
I think Atlanta moved their their team outside of Atlanta
into another county. But this is not We're not the South.
We're Denver and uh and I think that Denver is
a sports capital for the for the Rocky Mountains, and
(19:17):
we need to claim it. We need to act like it.
We need to put you know, part of the part
I don't like. You know, Well, I'm not that bout us.
We had a lot more swag when when when our
administration always went around the country, saying we're the best
and badest there is in the country. I remember Hicckeloper
telling me was the Nuggets won a couple of games,
(19:40):
and I told them, well, during my administration, we won
two Super Bowls and two Stanley Cups, and when you went,
let me know, I think, I think we need to
really promote who and what we are, and I think
that the Broncos are certainly a major part of that.
But they need to be downtown with everybody else. And
when you have a place, a destination place for people
(20:01):
to go, the people will come. Well for them to go,
they're not going to come. You can't split everything up.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
Uh, Mayor. You're very well aware of the politics behind
this kind of stuff. I could sort of sniff it
out myself. And you know they're they're messing around with
loan Tree, and people ask why, Well, you know, you
just want leverage, And you're right in your op ed
you said quote this will be a public relations disaster
if ownership seriously considers moving the Broncs outside the city. Yeah,
(20:31):
so why even mess around with loan Tree. If that's
the case, why even have talks?
Speaker 8 (20:35):
Well, I think it's good for the for the elected people.
It's good for the politicians in Douglas County to say
that they're they're in play and they got a shot.
I think it's good for them, and I think it's
good for their ownership team to play the game of
saying that we've got other options. We just still have
to come to Denvil. But at the end of the day,
how did you not be in downtown den with all
(20:58):
the other sports franchises?
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Agree? I agree, And Mayor, let's talk about the location
because it's it's been out for some time now, and
it's Burnham Yard, and I know that the Broncos ownership
has been buying up land there and so on and
so forth. In Mayor, I don't want to cast pejoratives
over this state owned land. But I've been there. I
mean I heck, I've been to the Buckhorn many times.
I know exactly where everything is. I've seen everything there.
(21:22):
It's concrete, it's weed buildings, and it's weeds growing all
over the place, and just debris. It's a blight on
the landscape. I can't imagine the state or the city
or anybody else would fight the development and a beautiful,
well done high end development for you know, for the
civic good of a new stadium and everything that would
(21:44):
surround it on that particular piece of land. Heck, if
you drop the nuke on Burnham Yard, it would be
an improvement. No offense and no offense, mayor no offense.
Speaker 8 (21:53):
No, no, I no, I get it. I mean you
also mentioned one of my favorite restaurants. I made a mistake,
wants to take in person find a town to the Buckhorn.
I didn't know they were vegetarian, so the meeting didn't
go real Well, that's awesome. But you know, I've been
a sports fan since I was a kid when I
(22:14):
first moved to Denver. You know, my highlight of my
sports life is being able to see the nineteen sixty
Olympics team with Jerry West and Oscar Robinson and guard
and I was a young kid and being able to
get tickets and go down and see that was very special.
So all these teams are special. In the Broncos, I
remember that, I remember the striped socks. I met Gene
(22:37):
Mingo on Lionel Taylor Knewdles legends in their own time
and still legends. So for us, I think it's just
a it's a historical fight that we need to just
make sure I always wor when we have out of
town owners that really don't understand the dynamics of the
relationship between the people of the Rocky Mounds of peopeople
(23:00):
of Colorado. People a dinner metro area and they love
the sports teams. Yeah, well, let me give this that
in most places they come from.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
You're right, And let me say something about Greg Penner,
and they they go out of their way to know
the history of the community. And I mean, I've had
many conversations with Greg about just this community and I
love the fact that they ask these questions. Here's my
question to you, though, So people don't may not understand
that the current stadium site that's owned by the taxpayers,
(23:28):
what happens when they move from that site. What's going
to happen to that stadium now in that whole area.
Speaker 8 (23:35):
Well, it's obviously going to be developed. It's gonna be
at hot property area. You know, Vicky, Well, you've been
all you guys been around the sports in this town
for a long time. But you don't know how personally
it hurt me when I had to give up my
high stadium. I didn't have to give it up, but
we were paying five million dollars or more for maintenance
(23:57):
on that project for my high State ad and so
for me, it was a slam dunk to give up
the lease and let five counties purchase the land so
that everybody could move so we could move that stadium. Personally,
it hurt me because I lost my sweep and then
(24:19):
when I bought one, I didn't know it didn't include food.
So I mean, you know, I was still learning stuff,
but that we just need to move on with it
quickly because we got a lot of other issues to do.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Would you would you be for a rooftop or a
retractable roof because I know a lot of longtime fans
don't want to see it. I don't mind one.
Speaker 8 (24:39):
Yeah, no, I would be really because you can't predict
Colorado weather. Yeah, I mean I don't. I don't like
football in the snow. Me neither, So I would rather
have the rooftop that's retractable that you could so then
regardless of what the weather is, you can still play
the game. Yeah. I'm not that much of a you know.
(25:02):
I think that's why warm weather teams have somewhat of
advantage if you're going during Super Bowl time, if you're
going to Miami and going to l A H. But
I would rather have a roof top that allows us
to be able to even bid on these uh bid
on these teams, bid on these activities that where where
we can bring them to Denver. Yeah, we got something
(25:24):
to sell. We need to keep selling it.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Absolutely appreciate your passion for sports man. That's one thing
I've always valued is community leaders that are into it.
I love watching and talking to you at Nuggets games.
And I think we're going to have a long Nugget
season my friends. So we'll see what good.
Speaker 8 (25:40):
And I see you guys up from Boulder Friday.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
I suspect, well, that's right, kicks off Friday night. Baby.
The only thing about this nil stuff I don't like.
You don't know what kind of damn team you got?
Speaker 6 (25:54):
You what to expect every time?
Speaker 8 (25:59):
Yeah, all right, appreciate it the time. I appreciate you
guys having beyond take care and that I'm going back
to bednaw I normally don't get up to do it.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
Thank you, man.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Wellington.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
Well he joins us on the ramos Lo Hotline car
accident in ramas Law Medical doctor and attorney ramas Law
dot Com.
Speaker 6 (26:18):
He's so about college football.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
We've talked about that ad nauseum, you know, because you
don't have people you're familiar with that are freshman, sophomore,
and now you don't know. I mean, even the post
passionate fans have no idea what to expect.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
That's true. Hey, Vic, you talked about the political side
of this thing. I can't for the life of me,
I don't care what side of the spectrum you're on
in downtown Denver, Colorado, or with the state of Colorado.
I can't, for the life of me think of a
valid reason why you wouldn't just go to the pen
or Walton group and say, you know what, kick butt,
(26:56):
you know what, boom, We'll say. You know, you'd be
about all this lame and do it. Just do it up.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
If you're from a build suburb.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Build it go like today, go no, no, no, today,
downtown all the politicians on whatever side of the aisle
you're on, build it.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
Just say well, because.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
You're fighting different things now, you know, here here, here's
the blunt truth, like fighting what. I'm gonna tell you
what you're fighting. Hold on, I'm gonna tell you exactly
what's happening. First of all, the Mayor's right because community
leaders in suburbs they want the notoriety to say that
they're in bed with.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
The with the Broncos and they and they're not going
to That's.
Speaker 5 (27:31):
Not gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
I I agree.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Listen to me, Listen to my words. The Denver Broncos
are not playing football in Loan Tree. Okay, not on Sundays.
They can practice in Centennial. They're not playing in Loan Tree.
It's not happening, So stop enough. That's number one. Number two.
The reason why it's gonna take time is because people
in the area which they want to move to Burnham Yards.
There are groups. There are people with their handout wanting
(27:55):
money for properties, wanting money to move historics.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
Sits all this crap.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
You hear now, right?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
What's historic in Burnham Yard? Do?
Speaker 5 (28:03):
I'm just telling you people want money. At the end
of the day, they want money. Follow the money mode.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Okay, I get I get that, man, but there should
be no political hold up to saying, you know what,
buy the stuff and let's go. Burnam Yard hasn't been
used in a decade. It's a blight on the city.
And I was only half joking when I said, if
you dropped the nuke, it would it would be you
know what, will.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Be sad though, and I will be sad. And seeing
this the current stadium, if you've been there, it's not bad.
It's not like it's Trump. It's very well taken care of.
The Broncos have done an extraordinary job.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
With the upkeep.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
It's gonna be a sad day when they blow that
sucker up. It will because it feels too soon.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
It was a sad well, it was a sad day
when Mile High got blown up. Was but that thing
was a lot more than this. It was that thing
was a scaffolding Brett, what do you say about billionaires though.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
They don't they don't rent, they own.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Hey, just a couple of minutes here before we get
out of this segment.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Did you guys see this?
Speaker 3 (29:06):
So there was a new agreement during the off season.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
And I've always said that my two favorite sports television
shows are Inside the NBA and I still love College
Game Day.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
I watch every Saturday morning.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
I turn it on before the game start, and that's
gonna be happening before Texas Ohio State, which you can
hear right here on Altitude Sports Radio ten o'clock on Saturday.
But Big Noon Kickoff did something. They're trying to compete
with College Game Day. Maybe they see an opportunity because
I believe this Saturday is Lee Corso's last appearance on it,
and he's been the stalwart of that program. Right, So
(29:43):
they said, hey, we're gonna get in bed with the
Barstool Boys. They're gonna bring on Dave Portnoy and I
think Big Cat from Barstool and they're gonna be on
the Big Noon Fox Off.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Correct, Dave Portnoy.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
It just came out this first game that they're doing
from the Ohio State Texas game, Ohio State is not
allowing Dave Portnoy to be there.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
Well, they're calling this a big pr ploy the claim
he's not allowed to be there, But then the the
ad of Ohio State says that's not the case at all.
It's just that his role on the show is not
inside the stadium.
Speaker 6 (30:17):
It's outside the stadium. So I want to play words there.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
I actually watched this, not that I care all that
much about it, but I was curious what's going on.
According to portnoy asword, he sent it like a five
minute video out and he kind of says, what's on
his mind? You could tell, And he said, I'm like,
I'm gonna be careful in the way I say this
because I just partnered with Fox. I don't want to
make anybody mad. He goes, for sure, the ad banned
him from the stadium and then backtracked afterwards because they
(30:44):
got so why because he's a Michigan Because he's a
Michigan fan and said a lot of unsavory things about
Ohio Stateium asked.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Okay, so this is the danger. Listen, man, this is
the danger of fandom in media, all right.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
It's it's why you have to draw line, all right.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
You just have to.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
There.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
There exists a rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State that
is so fierce, so fierce that the ad of Ohio
State won't let a Michigan fan into a stadium, even
though the television revenue pays for that ad salary. Think
about that for a second.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
For sure.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
I'm trying to think of the biggest USC fan on
the planet, USC, biggest USC fan on the plas Farrel
Will Ferrell. Yeah, donates money he dotted out of Okay,
what would the ad at Notre Dame say, I, no, man,
you can't, you can't come into Notre Dame stadium.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
I'm trying to think what would be like the closest
thing to that where it'd be like a sports pundit
would not be allowed in the stadium because he's a
rival fan of X place.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
Well, Miami plays Notre Dame this week, all right, Sunday night.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
That's about his fierce arrival.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
It gets like Michael Irvin's not allowed at the stadium
or something like that if they're playing at Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
Or it would be like if they played in Notre
Dame stadium. Notre Dame would not allowed Tony Montana into
the stadium.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
I think there's multiple reasons why it wouldn't be allowed.
For there's a lot of people who are not gonna
get that reference Vick we did. Who would be somebody, Okay,
how about this?
Speaker 4 (32:21):
How about like a Shane Gillis type who's a big
Notre Dame fan who's probably said some mean things about Miami,
joked about him.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
They said not allowed maybe something like that.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
I don't I don't know. It just seems a little
over the top.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Get over it, man, who cares? Man?
Speaker 6 (32:34):
Just play football? See this is the beauty of college
football though. That's what college football possesses.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
This this, this personality, this trait, this fandom that I'm sorry, guys,
pro football will not have it to that degree. And
I know there are a lot of College football is
my favorite sport. And this is why, because it's personal.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
It's very personal.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Three zero three, five four oh nine two five back
after this one.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Two three meet you? Oh the way?
Speaker 6 (33:09):
All right?
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Um?
Speaker 4 (33:12):
I had questions for you following the fifty three man
roster that is finalized now at the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
We discussed this earlier.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
The only real surprise I would say is that they
kept how do how are we saying Reid's first name again?
Tone Karenne read over Lavelle Bailey.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
That was a surprise to me. Nothing else a big surprise.
But let me ask you this. You get to stare
at the entire roster now.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
The whole thing, biggest strength, biggest weakness that you see
on paper with the Broncos roster.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
The most depth is defensive line. My goodness, they kept
every defensive lineman that was out there.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
But think you know what they also did again, they
paid Zach Allen. Bonito is gonna get paid. Be's a
linebag whatever. But the point is they rotate guy pretty well.
Everybody gets a taste at one point or another. And
I think that's big for this bro. I mean, you
keep guys fresh. I think it's a big thing for
this particular defense that everybody's it's all for one and
one for all and everybody gets a little a little
(34:14):
piece of the pie.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
I would say the biggest question, I'll start there inside
linebacker only because after the starters, we know Justins Trenet,
he held up during the season, right, He's a good reserve. Yeah,
and they kept this kid, this sun drafted free agent.
It just seems like there's not much depth considering Drake
Greenlaw as an injury passed. Alex Singleton is coming off
(34:37):
an injury that to me seems to be the lowest of.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
The reservoirs they're doing this. I think this is what's happening.
Both fingers are crossed. Stay healthy until he can get
Drew Sanders off ir. I think that's their their thought
process there. Probably once he comes in, I think you
feel a lot better about the depth there. But for
the moment, Vicky right, it's pretty thin when you look.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
At the tight end position and no offense to Lucas
Kroll or or anybody else in that regard. But last
year Evan Ingram only played in nine games. I mean,
if this is probably very easy to say. If something
happens to Coreland Sutton or something happens to Evan Ingram,
it feels like the game plan is thrown out the
(35:21):
window and no offense to the guys behind them. But
the only difference between you and the worst tight end
room in the league again and no offense to Troutman
and Natkins and the girl is Evan Ingram twisting an ankle?
Speaker 6 (35:36):
Is that fair? Is that fair enough?
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Yes? Sure?
Speaker 5 (35:38):
Okay, you know where I think their deepest corner dB secondary.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yeah, they're pretty deep.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
Yeah, I mean to the point where they allowed Tomorrow
mathis to walk. Now I have it, perse horses, the
Denver Broncos wanted Tomorrow mathis back at a discounted rate.
He wouldn't take a pay cut and so they cut
him and now he's off to find another team.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Is he one of the he's I always forget how
this works. How many years you have to be in
the league to be not waived but released a vest
a vested veteran, Yeah, four.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Years, four years.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
So I think he's in that category right where he's
not on waivers. He now gets to sign wherever he
wants to, I think, correct. But yeah, they you're right, Vic,
I mean he's I had no idea the cap hit
was like three point something, three point four to three
point six, whatever it was. That's that's not a small number.
It's not for a guy who's going to be like
(36:37):
sixth on the depth chart.
Speaker 6 (36:38):
Depth piece. Yeah, he's a depth piece.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
And the advancement and the way they they cultivated the
talent of the Chris Abrams drain and you know, they
got guys there now that they could throw. They got
numbers they can throw at that position.
Speaker 7 (36:49):
Right.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
I don't want to cast dispersions as well on Kalchusky
or Pert or Crumb or anybody, but if you lose
a guard, if a miners should be out for a
little bit, or power should be out for a little bit,
who could step in and play that role, you know,
(37:11):
and play and play it effectively enough?
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Again, backup offensive lineman is tough to find, but I
got tackles.
Speaker 6 (37:17):
You got five tackles on the team.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Well, some of those are swing guys. I think somebody
that can do a little bit of both of you
get right.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Your backup center Forsyth can kind of jump in if
he has to to. The The thing is and I
think this is encouraging.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
When Sean Payton said, yes, say three different teams called
about Frank Crumb, tell you a little something about depth
as a backup offensive tackle. Remember last year, Jeff Flakewell
said there was an injury that happened in camp that
nobody's going to talk about, but he felt like it
could have been the biggest injury of the offseason.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
Quinn Bailey.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Quinn Bailey getting hurt as the sort of swing tackle
to back up both left tackle and right was big.
I think they might see Crumb as that guy. Now, No,
him and Matt Pert both because Pert got some work.
If you remember when Pert or Part I think it's.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Pert Pert, Matt Pert. It's not part I don't think
so you know what it's Pert?
Speaker 5 (38:19):
You positive it's not Parrot.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
I guess I'm not positive Vic, but I'm pretty sure
it's Pert.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
I mean, I think we should get this right.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
I don't have the pronunciation guy in front of me.
We're just gonna go with pert for now, because parrot
it sounds French.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
No, what's the matter, what what moje?
Speaker 2 (38:43):
What if I wade into this conversation, I'm just gonna
get my butt kicked by both of you. Do it?
Because the last name is the last name of the
greatest drummer to ever exist as a human being, And
you guys don't even know who the hell that is.
Speaker 6 (38:59):
And that's the Arms and Legs or def Leppard.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Why'd you walk away?
Speaker 5 (39:06):
I don't know?
Speaker 7 (39:07):
And actually, while while Mosa rage quits because while Mosa raids,
rage quits because you guys don't know the drummer of Rush,
here's the pronunciation of the bronco in question.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Here with a newly signed it tackle Matt Parrot Matt.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
Oh no way, see, thank you, You're welcome, Thank you, Vic.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
How do you know she's right?
Speaker 5 (39:30):
And I'm not?
Speaker 3 (39:31):
How do you know that?
Speaker 6 (39:32):
Because you're you? You know what?
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Though, we get so.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Hung up and people make fun of you for mispronouncing
names and stuff like that, you know, mispronounces like all
of the names. Jared Bednor does that to his own
players all the time, like a lot of the time.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
You know why I didn't believe you because you pronounced
Dave Concepcion's name, Dave Conception. That's why.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
Because he's said because he's a baby.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
Point is you got a couple of guys that can
back up the tackle spots, which are nice. Now moving forward,
see now most you started a whole like who's the
best drummer ever?
Speaker 3 (40:09):
Conversation?
Speaker 7 (40:09):
And isn't it Neil Peart? Isn't how he said it?
It's not Pert right, isn't it Peart?
Speaker 2 (40:13):
It can be either.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
Oh, now it can be either, he says.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
Really most I thought the best drummer of all time
was that dude from def Leppard that lost.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Limbs Bottom is the best drummer?
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Oh yeah, he had.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Not best drummer, but you just had a big kid.
It's just I don't talk about not doing it. I'm
not doing not.
Speaker 6 (40:35):
Don't touch my not.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
Don't touch my drum set.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
I really don't give it not doing this, We're not
doing it.
Speaker 5 (40:44):
Did you touch my drum set?
Speaker 7 (40:46):
Did you say?
Speaker 6 (40:47):
Did you guys see what watching episode cops?
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Did you guys see that's pretty intense.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
What this is, actually this is. I think it's a dream.
It would be a dream of all of ours, just
for different reasons. What Russell Westbrook's been doing the last
few days.
Speaker 5 (41:07):
Well, I've been reading his fashion emails.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Have you been actually reading those?
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Yeah? What's he doing?
Speaker 6 (41:15):
Nelly?
Speaker 4 (41:15):
I just sent you a DM. I want you to
pull this up on the screen behind us, please. Russell's
like not signed yet, which is weird. I mean, he's
not I don't know if he's going to be signed.
Speaker 5 (41:26):
There.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
The latest I saw about Russell Westbrook was that if
it's not the Kings, they don't know if there's a
team out there that wants him.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
So we're talking about Puerto Rico or Israel or something.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
But he's staying in shape, he's still getting his shots up.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
Who's tel Aviv an option? Remember to the Tel Aviv rumors?
Speaker 3 (41:46):
But but.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
He's doing it at a location that I think we
all would enjoy and imagine Vick would love this for
the hoops reason, me and most would love this for
another reason. As Nelly pulls this up behind us, he's
just he's hooping on a yacht. Just he's on a
yacht in the middle of the water getting some shots up.
Speaker 5 (42:10):
Have you guys ever played basketball on a cruise ship.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
I've never been on a cruise ship.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
Now, we did a Disney Cruise Caribbean cruise with the
kids back in the day and they had a hoop
cord up top.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Don't that's Westbrook either?
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (42:24):
How do we even know that's him? Oh yeah, that's him.
That's him by that jumper.
Speaker 6 (42:27):
I could tell.
Speaker 5 (42:28):
I could, dude, I can tell who a person is
by their jump shott.
Speaker 6 (42:34):
That is exactly Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 7 (42:36):
Well, I know we know it's him because if you
if you listen closely to the video in the background,
you can just hear this turnover.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
It may be a misshot.
Speaker 6 (42:44):
Oh yeah, maybe dot's him.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Maybe a mystery maybe. So yeah, how do you how
do you make a shot on a boat that's that's
rolling movie? Yeah, yeah, it's young and it's wind pitching
and rolling. How do you do?
Speaker 5 (42:58):
It's not easy, dude.
Speaker 6 (42:59):
You gotta go to the you gotta go to the cup.
Speaker 5 (43:02):
Don't rely on jumpers.
