in Los Angeles, California, to Mexican American parents. From a
young age, she exhibited a keen interest in science and mathematics,
fueled by her curiosity about the world beyond Earth's atmosphere.
Ochoa's passion for exploration led her to pursue a degree

master's degree and a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
In nineteen ninety Ochoa made history when she was selected
as one of NASA's first female astronauts. She embarked on

nineteen ninety three, becoming the first Hispanic woman to travel
