Often misunderstood as just a goddess of beauty, Freya is a complex powerhouse who commands both hearts and battlefields. From her enchanted necklace and her chariot pulled by cats to her mastery of seiðr and her tearful longing for her lost love, Freya embodies the wild, uncontainable spirit of the Norse pantheon.
Join host Nitten Nair as we uncover Freya’s origins among the Vanir, her dramatic arrival in Asgard, her tangled love stories, and her modern-day influence in pop culture, neo-paganism, and feminist iconography. With powerful storytelling, sharp insights, and a touch of mythological gossip, this episode paints Freya in all her raw, radiant glory.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Hello everyone. Hey, theyre myth Lokians. Welcome back to myth
Look where the gods are real, the legends are epic,
and the drama when it makes Game of Thrones look
like a toddler's bedtime story. This is your host, Nathan Nayer,
and today's episode is dedicated to one of the fiercest,
most fabulous, and most misunderstood goddesses in Norse mythology. She's

(00:38):
got the beauty of a sunrise and a reputation that
spans love, lust, war, witchcraft, and yes, a couple of
dwarfs in the mix as well. We're talking about none
other than Freya, the goddess who refuses to be boxed in.
She's not your average love goddess. She's a lover of fight,

(01:00):
a spellcaster, a warlord recruiter, a literal cat mom with
a chariot. So let's sail into a frost bitten shows
of Asgard and dive into the untamed legend of Freyer.
Before she was chilling in Asgard and flipping her hair
at Odin, Freyer was part of the war n Air,

(01:20):
the other tribe of gods in Nawse mythology. Why Asir
think Odin Thor etc. Were all about war and order.
The Wanner were more connected to nature, magic, fertility, and
the wild primal energies of the world. After a brutal
war between the two tribes, because what's a pantheon without

(01:41):
some divine beef, they broke her peace by exchanging gods.
The Acyl got neured frey and Freyer, And just like that,
Freyer moved in, redecorated the spiritual wive of Asgard and
turned every head doing it. But don't confuse her with
frig Odin's wife. Yeah, there's a whole bait on whether
Freya and freg are the same goddess, split by time,

(02:04):
language or lower. But we're treating Freya as her own
powerhouse today. Now, if you've ever imagined a Viking goddess
who could drop jaws and start wars with a single look,
Freya fits the bill. She's often described as wearing a
flowing cloak of falcon feathers adorned with gold and gemstones.

(02:24):
Her hair is usually golden, her presence enchanting, and her
aura let's just say, nobody swipes left on Freyer. But
beauty isn't her only asset. Freya is armed to the
teeth when she wants to be. She's got a bore
named Hilswinny, which she rides into battle. Bore power is

(02:45):
a thing and a chariot pulled by two massive cats.
Yeah cats, we don't mean your standard house tabbees. He's
a divine oversized beest, probably links of panther like who
so bay Freyer and only Freyer Honestly, if they don't scream,
which he dominatrics energy, I don't know what does. You

(03:09):
might assume Freya is all about love and beauty, but
she's actually one of the most power packed deities in Noslore.
Freya blesses marriages, birds, crops, and sensuality. But this isn't
a heart and hallmark God's love. It's wild raw, the
kind that shakes mountains and changes fate. Here's the twist.

(03:32):
Freyer also has serious war credentials. In fact, she chooses
half the slain warriors on the battlefield to join her
in her Hall four corner. The other half go to
Odin's Valhalla. Basically, she co runs the Viking afterlife. Warriors
dream of dying in battle just for a shot at her,
chilling in her heavenly mead Hall Freya is the mistress

(03:56):
of Sere, the Norse art of prophecy, faith giving, spirit travel,
and shape shifting. She's so good at it she actually
taught Odin, yes the all Father himself, how to use it.
But here's the kicker. Seyor was considered a feminine power,

(04:16):
so when Odin learned it, other gods raised eyebrows. Freya,
she didn't care. She owned it, flaunted it, and redefined
what power looked like in Asgard. Alright, time for some
nice hot norstea. Freya once came across a group of
dwarves creating the most exquisite necklace ever made brising German. Naturally,

(04:40):
she wanted it. The price, well, let's just say it
involved spending some quality time with the four dwarves, which
she did unapologetically now and a Loki Trickster, a ster
of trouble chaos in Garnet. He found out stole the
necklace and tattled to Odin. There were accusations, negotiations, some

(05:05):
magical standoffs, and eventually Freyer got her necklace back. The
takeaway Freya does what she wants and no one can
kiltrip her for it. Freya's love life is messy. She's
married to or or a mysterious figure who disappeared. Some
stories say he went off on spiritual journeys. Others say

(05:29):
he got overwhelmed and left Freyer devastated. Christ's tears of
gold Literally, her sadness turns into golden drops. Now here's
the poetic tragedy. Despite being the goddess of love, Freyer
spends most of her mythological timeline longing for a love

(05:50):
that is absent. It's a powerful metaphor for desire, loneliness,
and eternal yearning. It also makes her one of the
most emotionally complex deities in any mythology. Today, Freyer is
still much alive in modern imagination. She's in video games

(06:10):
from God of War to Assassin's Creed. While Allah Freyer
shows up in many digital sagas, often reimagined as a
sorceress or a fierce warrior queen. You'll find her in Vikings,
Almighty Johnson's, and countless animated and live action retellings. Prayer
is revered in modern heathenry Asatru and other Noise inspired

(06:33):
spiritual parts. She's honored in rituals involving love, magic, personal strength,
and protection. Freya has also become a powerful icon of
divine feminity. She's not the submissive love goddess of other traditions.
She's passionate, powerful, and demands respect. Let's be real, Freyer

(06:56):
could totally lead a ted talk on empowerment. If you're

(07:16):
Remember God's love attention, so do we. Frayer's legacy goes
far beyond old sagas and room stones. She represents a holistic,
divine feminine one that is beautiful and powerful, nurturing and deadly,
magical and emotional. In a world where love and war
are often treated as opposites, Freyer is a living bridge.

(07:40):
She reminds us that love is not weakness, magic is
not taboo, emotions are not flaws, and any power is
not limited by gender. Frayer challenges us to own our stories,
our heart breaks, our desires, our strength, and honestly that's timeless.
So there you have it, folks. Freya the goddess who

(08:03):
could outfight a warrior, out magical wizard, and outshine the stars.
She's not just a love goddess, she's a legend. Thank
you for joining me on this journey into Norse mythology.
